Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthy lifestyles are inversely associated with the risk of noncommunicable diseases, which are leading causes of death. However, few studies have used longitudinal data to assess the impact of changing lifestyle behaviours on all-cause and cancer mortality. METHODS Within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort, lifestyle profiles of 308,497 cancer-free adults (71% female) aged 35-70 years at recruitment across nine countries were assessed with baseline and follow-up questionnaires administered on average of 7 years apart. A healthy lifestyle index (HLI), assessed at two time points, combined information on smoking status, alcohol intake, body mass index, and physical activity, and ranged from 0 to 16 units. A change score was calculated as the difference between HLI at baseline and follow-up. Associations between HLI change and all-cause and cancer mortality were modelled with Cox regression, and the impact of changing HLI on accelerating mortality rate was estimated by rate advancement periods (RAP, in years). RESULTS After the follow-up questionnaire, participants were followed for an average of 9.9 years, with 21,696 deaths (8407 cancer deaths) documented. Compared to participants whose HLIs remained stable (within one unit), improving HLI by more than one unit was inversely associated with all-cause and cancer mortality (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.84; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.81, 0.88; and HR: 0.87; 95% CI: 0.82, 0.92; respectively), while worsening HLI by more than one unit was associated with an increase in mortality (all-cause mortality HR: 1.26; 95% CI: 1.20, 1.33; cancer mortality HR: 1.19; 95% CI: 1.09, 1.29). Participants who worsened HLI by more than one advanced their risk of death by 1.62 (1.44, 1.96) years, while participants who improved HLI by the same amount delayed their risk of death by 1.19 (0.65, 2.32) years, compared to those with stable HLI. CONCLUSIONS Making healthier lifestyle changes during adulthood was inversely associated with all-cause and cancer mortality and delayed risk of death. Conversely, making unhealthier lifestyle changes was positively associated with mortality and an accelerated risk of death.

Abstract
Background The association between Body Mass Index (BMI), frailty index (FI), and dietary supplement in cancer survivors has been a subject of growing interest. This study investigates the relationship of BMI and FI with mortality in American cancer survivors and explores the impact of dietary supplement usage on different BMI and FI groups. Methods Three thousand nine hundred and thirty-two cancer patients from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database were included in the analyses. BMI, FI, and supplement usage were obtained through the NHANES structured survey and the 49-item FI tool. Weighted logistic and Cox proportional hazards models, Kaplan-Meier survival analyses, and propensity score matching (PSM) were used to elucidate the relationships between BMI, FI, dietary supplement, and mortality outcomes. Results The study found significant associations between higher BMI and increased frailty (Odds ratio [OR] = 1.04, 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.02-1.06). BMI < 25 kg/m2 and FI > 0.2 are associated with an increased mortality rate. Dietary supplement use can reduce all-cause and cancer mortality in cancer patients with BMI < 25 kg/m2 (Hazard ratio [HR] = 0.63, 95% CI, 0.47-0.84; HR = 0.48, 95% CI, 0.29-0.80) or FI ≤ 0.2 (HR = 0.77, 95% CI, 0.60-0.99; HR = 0.59, 95% CI, 0.39-0.89). In cancer patients with BMI < 25 kg/m2 and FI ≤ 0.2, dietary supplement users had lower all-cause and cancer mortality (HR = 0.49, 95% CI, 0.30-0.79; HR = 0.25, 95% CI, 0.10-0.60). Conclusion The study revealed a negative correlation between BMI and the FI among the cancer patient cohort as well as their complex impact on mortality and highlighted the role of dietary supplement in cancer prognosis, indicating benefits for non-frail patients with BMI < 25 kg/m2.

Abstract
PURPOSE In the field of health sciences gender is often confused with biological sex (male/female) or reduced to a dichotomous classification (masculinity/femininity). The concepts of sex and gender interact with each other, but they are not equivalent. According to Sandra Bem four gender typologies can be established (androgynous, masculine, feminine and undifferentiated). A relationship has been shown to exist between gender and health. Yet, there is little evidence as to the relationship between gender typologies and adherence to the Mediterranean diet. The aim of this research is to evaluate the association between Bem's gender typologies and adherence to the Mediterranean diet. METHODS Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS) and Bem's gender typologies were the main variables. Sex, age, socioeconomic status (SES), body mass index (BMI) and obesity were analyzed as covariates. RESULTS Multilevel multivariate analysis showed that androgynous typology was associated with increased adherence to Mediterranean diet (β = 0.46 (SE 0.21), p = 0.033), adjusting by covariates, in a university population in Spain. Moreover, this was not the case with masculinity or femininity typologies. CONCLUSION Thus, the results of this study suggest (1) that androgynous typology is not only associated with better mental health but also with healthy/healthier lifestyles, and (2) the complexity of the relationship between sex-gender and health would advise researchers avoid dichotomies such as male/female or masculinity/femininity.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The total number of cancer-related deaths and new cancer cases in 2020 was 19.3 billion and 10.8 billion, respectively. Therefore, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of neoplastic disease, as well as management of comorbidities, are of paramount importance. In this regards, poor nutritional status and mental disorders are comorbidity conditions frequently observed in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to assess the association between malnutrition and anxiety in hospitalized adult cancer patients. METHODS This is a retrospective study. Nutrition Risk Screening (NRS) 2002, body mass index (BMI), daily calorie intake, and weight difference between admission and discharge were used to evaluate nutritional status. Anxiety was assessed with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A). Ordered logistic and linear logistic regressions adjusted for sex and age were used to estimate the association between malnutrition and anxiety in cancer patients. RESULTS A total of 90 patients were included. Higher NRS risk [aβ = 0.85; 95% CI (0.28-1.42); p = 0.004], disease stage [aβ = 0.77; 95% CI (0.08-1.47); p = 0.029], and cachexia [aβ = 2.20; 95% CI (0.75-3.65); p = 0.003] were significantly associated with anxiety symptoms. Moreover, cancer site different than gastrointestinal cancers was associated with a lower risk of anxiety symptoms [aβ = - 2.11; 95% CI (- 3.55/ - 0.66); p = 0.005]. CONCLUSION In the current study, we found a relatively high rate of malnourished patients, indicating the importance of routinely assessing nutritional status and screening cancer patients for mental health issues. This approach could help physicians to treat both in a timely manner, thereby significantly reducing the burden of the disease and improving the quality of life of patients.

Abstract
It is a well-known fact that dietary fiber is recognized as one of the essential components of a healthy diet. The aim of this paper was to investigate the impact of dietary fiber on the incidence and mortality of various types of cancer, the current evidence in this field, and the biases of this evidence using the meta-meta-analysis method. We identified meta-analyses that particularly focused on the association between dietary fiber consumption and the risk/mortality of cancer. A structured and comprehensive computer literature search was undertaken in the electronic databases PubMed/Medline, Web of Science (WoS), and Scopus. The search yielded a total of 25 papers and 28 reports. In the pooled analysis, higher dietary fiber consumption was associated with a 22% lower cancer risk (OR = 0.78, 95% CI: 0.74-0.83, p < 0.001) and a 17% lower mortality (RR = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.78-0.90, p < 0.001). In the secondary meta-meta-analysis, it was observed that there was an inverse association between dietary fiber intake and digestive tract cancers (OR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.62-0.76) and breast cancer (OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.90-0.94). Taken together, this paper suggests that promoting a high-fiber diet may be an effective strategy for the prevention and management of cancer.

Abstract
The health status of individuals in Slovenia across age groups is a matter of concern, as current unsustainable lifestyle choices are already leading to various chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Outdated national dietary guidelines, their inconsistent implementation, and a lack of structural changes represent obstacles to promoting healthy and sustainable nutrition. Limited access to and rising prices of healthy, sustainable foods, in addition to the high availability of low-priced, highly processed foods, increase the risk of NCDs. The lack of systematic health monitoring and early disease detection poses a challenge. Global and local environmental issues, resistance, and/or the inability to adopt healthier diets hinder individuals from changing their nutritional behaviours. In this narrative review, we provide an overview of the current situation in Slovenia as well as planned activities initiated by the Slovenian government and the Prime Minister's Strategic Council for Nutrition, aiming to make progress in supporting healthy and sustainable nutrition, limiting food waste, and increasing the availability of healthier foods for all. Improving the sustainability of the Slovenian food system can contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring Slovenia's commitment to internationally agreed-upon targets. This could lead Slovenia to take a role as a pilot country in testing and implementing the necessary systemic changes, which could be further applied in other countries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We investigated the association between body mass index (BMI) and obesity-related cancer risk among individuals with/without incident hypertension (HTN), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and the joint associations of overweight/obesity (BMI ≥25 kg/m2 ) and each cardiometabolic condition with obesity-related cancer risk METHODS: We conducted a population-based cohort (n = 1,774,904 individuals aged ≥40 years and free of cancer and cardiometabolic conditions at baseline) study between 2010 and 2018 with electronic health records from Spain. Our main outcome measures were hazard ratios (HRs) for incident obesity-related cancers and relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI). RESULTS A total of 38,082 individuals developed obesity-related cancers after a median of 8 years of follow-up. The positive association between BMI and obesity-related cancer risk was similar among individuals free of cardiometabolic conditions (hazard ratio, HR per 5 kg/m2 : 1.08, 95% confidence interval, CI: 1.06-1.10) and with incident HTN (1.05, 1.01-1.08). The association among those with incident T2DM was null (0.98, 0.93-1.03). There was a positive additive interaction between overweight/obesity and CVD (relative excess risk due to interaction [RERI]: 0.19 [0.09, 0.30]), meaning that the combined association was 0.19 more than the sum of the individual associations. In contrast, a RERI of -0.24 (-0.28, -0.20) was observed for the combined association between overweight/obesity and T2DM. CONCLUSIONS Public health strategies to reduce overweight can help prevent cancer cases among the general population and individuals with incident HTN/CVD. Further, weight-loss interventions seem to lead to a greater cancer risk reduction among individuals with CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a bidirectional effect between sleep disorders and Mediterranean diet (MED), but the joint effect of MED and sleep disorders on mortality is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is a synergistic effect of adherence to MED and sleep disorders on all-cause and cause-specific mortality. METHODS The study included 23,212 individuals in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2014. A 9-point evaluation score, alternative Mediterranean diet (aMED) index was used to assess adherence to MED. Sleep disorder and hours of sleep were assessed by structured questionnaires. Cox regression models were used to assess the relationship between sleep disorders, aMED and all-cause mortality, cause-specific mortality (cardiovascular-related death, cancer-related death). The interaction effect of sleep disorders with aMED on mortality was further assessed. RESULTS Results showed that participants with lower aMED and presence of sleep disorders had significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular-related mortality (HR, 2.16, 95% CI, 1.49-3.13, P < 0.0001; HR, 2.68, 95% CI, 1.58-4.54, P = 0.0003). A significant interaction effect was found between aMED and sleep disorders on cardiovascular mortality (p for interaction = 0.033). No significant interaction existed between aMED and sleep disorders on all-cause mortality (p for interaction = 0.184) and cancer-related mortality (p for interaction = 0.955). CONCLUSIONS Poorer adherence to MED and sleep disorders synergistically increased long-term all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in NHANES population.

Abstract
Inflammation plays a key role in cancer development. As an important modulator of inflammation, the role of diet should be explored. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between diets with a higher inflammatory potential, as measured by the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII®), and cancer development in a cohort of rural post-menopausal women. Dietary intake from a randomized controlled trial cohort of rural, post-menopausal women in Nebraska was used to compute energy-adjusted DII (E-DIITM) scores at baseline and four years later (visit 9). A linear mixed model analysis and multivariate logistic regression evaluated the association between E-DII scores (baseline, visit 9, change score) and cancer status. Of 1977 eligible participants, those who developed cancer (n = 91, 4.6%) had a significantly larger, pro-inflammatory change in E-DII scores (Non-cancer: Δ 0.19 ± 1.43 vs. Cancer: Δ 0.55 ± 1.43, p = 0.02). After adjustment, odds of cancer development were over 20% higher in those with a larger change (more pro-inflammatory) in E-DII scores than those with smaller E-DII changes (OR = 1.21, 95% CI [1.02, 1.42], p = 0.02). Shifting to a more pro-inflammatory diet pattern over four years was associated with increased odds of cancer development, but not with E-DII at baseline or visit 9 alone.

Abstract
PURPOSE Sarcopenia is prevalent in ovarian cancer and contributes to poor survival. This study is aimed at investigating the association of prognostic nutritional index (PNI) with muscle loss and survival outcomes in patients with ovarian cancer. METHODS This retrospective study analyzed 650 patients with ovarian cancer treated with primary debulking surgery and adjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy at a tertiary center from 2010 to 2019. PNI-low was defined as a pretreatment PNI of < 47.2. Skeletal muscle index (SMI) was measured on pre- and posttreatment computed tomography (CT) at L3. The cut-off for the SMI loss associated with all-cause mortality was calculated using maximally selected rank statistics. RESULTS The median follow-up was 4.2 years, and 226 deaths (34.8%) were observed. With a median duration of 176 days (interquartile range: 166-187) between CT scans, patients experienced an average decrease in SMI of 1.7% (P < 0.001). The cut-off for SMI loss as a predictor of mortality was - 4.2%. PNI-low was independently associated with SMI loss (odds ratio: 1.97, P = 0.001). On multivariable analysis of all-cause mortality, PNI-low and SMI loss were independently associated with all-cause mortality (hazard ratio: 1.43, P = 0.017; hazard ratio: 2.27, P < 0.001, respectively). Patients with both SMI loss and PNI-low (vs. neither) had triple the risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio: 3.10, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS PNI is a predictor of muscle loss during treatment for ovarian cancer. PNI and muscle loss are additively associated with poor survival. PNI can help clinicians guide multimodal interventions to preserve muscle and optimize survival outcomes.

Abstract
Redesigning the European food system on the basis of circularity principles could bring environmental benefits for Europe and the world. Here we deploy a biophysical optimization model to explore the effects of adopting three circularity scenarios in the European Union (EU)27 + UK. We calculate a potential reduction of 71% in agricultural land use and 29% per capita in agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, while producing enough healthy food within a self-sufficient European food system. Under global food shortages, savings in agricultural land could be used to feed an additional 767 million people outside the EU (+149%), while reducing per capita greenhouse gas emissions by 38% but increasing overall emissions by 55% due to the increased population served. Transitioning the EU's food system towards circularity implies sequential changes among all its components and has great potential to safeguard human and planetary health.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The number of cancer survivors increases and their risks of recurrence, second cancer, morbidity and death is high; measures to prevent these risks are thus critical. Knowing the factors that lead cancer survivor to adopt or not healthy behaviours is crucial for designing effective prevention campaigns and better support them in after-cancer. Our study attempts to provide additional knowledge in this direction. METHODS This retrospective study was conducted via the Seintinelles collaborative research platform in a community of women with cancer volunteering to take online questionnaires. We collected data on sociodemographic factors and health, knowledge of cancer risk factors, and possible behaviour changes (tobacco/alcohol use, diet, physical activity) after cancer diagnosis. RESULTS The study involved 1180 women aged between 26 and 79 years. Several cancer-related factors (cancer other than breast cancer, longer time since diagnosis, taking drug treatment for cancer, sequelae, negative evolution of the cancer) favoured certain positive changes in behaviour. Sociodemographic factors (age, habitat environment, currently employed, living status, dependent children) or factors related to health (general condition, presence of comorbidities, neurological problems, hospitalizations, body mass index) favoured or not certain changes in behaviour. Lack of knowledge about modifiable risk factors for cancer was associated with not adopting healthy behaviours after cancer. DISCUSSION This study made it possible to identify important elements to be addressed in order to improve cancer risk prevention messages.

Abstract
Introduction Lung cancer is a serious global health concern, and its subtypes are closely linked to lifestyle and dietary habits. Recent research has suggested that malnutrition, over-nutrition, electrolytes, and granulocytes have an effect on the development of cancer. This study investigated the impact of combining patient nutritional indicators, electrolytes, and granulocytes as comprehensive predictors for lung cancer treatment outcomes, and applied a machine learning algorithm to predict lung cancer. Methods 6,336 blood samples were collected from lung cancer patients classified as lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). 2,191 healthy individuals were used as controls to compare the differences in nutritional indicators, electrolytes and granulocytes among different subtypes of lung cancer, respectively. Results Our results demonstrated significant differences between men and women in healthy people and NSCLC, but no significant difference between men and women in SCLC patients. The relationship between indicators is basically that the range of indicators for cancer patients is wider, including healthy population indicators. In the process of predicting lung cancer through nutritional indicators by machine learning, the AUC of the random forest model was as high as 93.5%, with a sensitivity of 75.9% and specificity of 96.5%. Discussion This study supports the feasibility and accuracy of nutritional indicators in predicting lung cancer through the random forest model. The successful implementation of this novel prediction method could guide clinicians in providing both effective diagnostics and treatment of lung cancers.

Abstract
Objectives: We investigated the associations of mean levels of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) and latent LTPA trajectories with all-cause mortality risk. Methods: Trajectories of LTPA were established using group-based trajectory analysis with a latent class growth model in a population-based cohort between 1996 and 2014. A Cox-proportional hazard model was conducted to examine the associations of LTPA quintiles and LTPA trajectories with all-cause mortality. Results: A total of 21,211 participants (age 18-90 years) were analyzed (median follow-up 16.8 years). The study participants were divided into five groups according to percentiles of LTPA (<20th, 20th-<40th, 40th-<60th, 60th-<80th, ≥80th) and LTPA trajectories (low/stable, medium/stable, increasing, decreasing, and fluctuating), respectively. Participants with a decreasing trajectory did not have a significantly lower risk of all-cause mortality despite having the highest baseline level of LTPA. In contrast, participants with a medium/stable (HR 0.84, 95% CI 0.72-0.98, p = 0.031) or an increasing (HR 0.57, 95% CI 0.33-0.97, p = 0.037) trajectory had a significantly lower risk of all-cause mortality. Conclusion: Promotion of maintaining stable LTPA is beneficial for public health and survival.

Abstract
There is no doubt that excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and binge drinking patterns increase the risk for cancer and many other diseases. Regarding the safety of light to moderate consumption of wine/alcoholic beverages, however, mixed messages exist. For decades, the potential health benefits of moderate wine consumption have been consistently shown, in particular for reducing cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. On the other hand, some population studies suggested that there is no safe limit of alcohol and ANY consumption is harmful to health, because of an increased cancer risk. Cancer is a multifactorial disease and it is increasingly accepted that certain lifestyle choices can affect the risk of developing cancer. Individuals do not drink only wine/alcoholic beverages, they eat different foods and have particular lifestyle habits. Besides several unmodifiable risk factors (age, sex, ethnicity and genetic disposition), improving lifestyle habits may contribute to reduce the risk of cancer. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), one third of the cancers could be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle (such as avoiding smoking, maintaining a normal body weight, being physically active, avoiding excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and keeping a healthy dietary pattern). Furthermore, the Mediterranean Diet is considered as one of the healthiest in the world by the WHO and is directly associated with a lower rate of mortality thanks to its effects on disease prevention. However, moderate consumption of wine is an important component of that diet. So recommendations for a healthy lifestyle which include a healthy, balanced diet and avoidance of any alcoholic beverage may be confusing. Can moderate wine drinkers still enjoy a glass of wine with the meal without jeopardizing their health? A detailed analysis of the scientific evidence will be provided and the risk of moderate wine consumption within the context of lifestyle will be examined.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW This review aims to assess how nutrition can be addressed in the integrative oncology setting, taking into account cancer patients' unmet needs as they relate to nutrition in cancer care and the evidence-based information that is available on this topic. RECENT FINDINGS During and after cancer treatment, nutrition is an important component of supportive care, for patients and their family members. Current scientific data consistently show that poor nutrition can reduce survival and decrease adherence to cancer treatments. Unfortunately, the limited availability of dietitians makes access to individualized nutrition counseling challenging, and many cancer patients still do not receive adequate nutritional support. As a result, one of the main unmet needs of patients and their families through the whole cancer trajectory is accessible and up-to-date evidence-based nutritional counseling that emphasizes basic healthy nutrition. The popularity of complementary and integrative medicine among patients with cancer makes the integrative oncology setting an excellent avenue for providing such support. A suggested simple approach that utilizes World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research and American Cancer Society basic information is described. This approach can be easily incorporated into integrative oncology settings, while reserving the role for the registered dietician to address underweight patients, patients with malnutrition, and patients with more complicated dietary situations. The integrative oncology setting is in a unique place in oncology that can be utilized for enhancing dissemination of healthy nutrition information and addressing the unmet needs expressed by patients and families.

Abstract
Non-communicable diseases (NCD) and lifestyle, particularly diet, have a close relationship. Based on the recent statistics, Croatian men and women lead in European overweight lists, which implies pessimistic prognosis in terms of incidence and prevalence of NCDs in the future. One of the possible solutions to overcome weight problems is turn to traditional balanced and sustainable diets, such as the Mediterranean diet. In this study, we assessed adherence towards Mediterranean diet using a validated questionnaire in an online survey and associated adherence scores with several demographic and anthropometric data. Based on the results of a validated Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (N = 3326), we assessed the adherence score to be 7.6 ± 2.5. The score tended to depend on sex, residence, age, education, income, and body mass index (BMI); indeed, women, residents of a coastal part of the country, older volunteers, those possessing a higher education degree, those with higher income, and those with lower BMI were associated with higher scores. As income was one of the significant findings related to higher adherence scores, we developed a dietary plan complying with Mediterranean diet principles that, on average, costed less than the average traditional balanced diet menu. Taken together, this study brought new findings regarding target groups who need to be encouraged to make lifestyle changes, and highlighted the first steps on how to make them.

Abstract
Since the beginning of the 21st century, interest in vegan diets has been rapidly increasing in most countries. Misconceptions about vegan diets are widespread among the general population and health professionals. Vegan diets can be health-promoting and may offer certain important advantages compared to typical Western (and other mainstream) eating patterns. However, adequate dietary sources/supplements of nutrients of focus specific to vegan diets should be identified and communicated. Without supplements/fortified foods, severe vitamin B12 deficiency may occur. Other potential nutrients of focus are calcium, vitamin D, iodine, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc, selenium, vitamin A, and protein. Ensuring adequate nutrient status is particularly important during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, and childhood. Health professionals are often expected to be able to provide advice on the topic of vegan nutrition, but a precise and practical vegan nutrition guide for health professionals is lacking. Consequently, it is important and urgent to provide such a set of dietary recommendations. It is the aim of this article to provide vegan nutrition guidelines, based on current evidence, which can easily be communicated to vegan patients/clients, with the goal of ensuring adequate nutrient status in vegans.

Abstract
The symbiotic interaction between gut microbiota and the digestive tract is an important factor in maintaining the intestinal environment balance. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a complex disease involving the interaction between tumour cells and a large number of microorganisms. The microbiota is involved in the occurrence, development and prognosis of colorectal cancer. Several microbiota species have been studied, such as Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum), Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis (ETBF), Streptococcus bovis (S. bovis), Lactobacillus, and Bifidobacterium. Studies about the interaction between microbiota and CRC were retrieved from Embase, PubMed, Ovid and Web of Science up to 21 Oct 2021. This review expounded on the effect of microbiota on CRC, especially the dysregulation of bacteria and carcinogenicity. The methods of gut microbiota modifications representing novel prognostic markers and innovative therapeutic strategies were also described.

Abstract
The diagnosis and treatment of cancer are associated with impairment at the physical and at psychological level. In addition, side effects are a potentially treatment-limiting factor that may necessitate dose reduction, delay, or even discontinuation of therapy, with negative consequences for outcome and mean survival. Numerous studies have shown that physical activity and sports and exercise therapy programs are not only practicable but also recommendable for oncologic patients during the acute phase and in the aftercare. Furthermore, nutrition plays an important role in all stages of tumor therapy. A timely integration of a nutrition therapy and physical activity in the form of physiotherapy and sports therapy serves to prevent and reduce treatment-associated side effects. Evidence-based recommendations on cancer prevention through nutrition therapy, physical activity, and sports and exercise therapy should be integrated into treatment plans for oncology patients as well as in health care services for the general population. Individual counselling by trained nutrition and exercise specialists may be advisable to receive concrete recommendations on the respective tumor entity or specific side effects. This mini review is based on a selective literature search in the PubMed database and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials on the subjects of healthy diet and physical activity in primary prevention and follow-up about cancer.
