Abstract
Implantation is a critical stage of pregnancy, which occurs in a short period of interaction between the receptive endometrium and the embryo. Folic acid (FA) is a synthetic derivative of folate and is recommended as a pre-conceptional supplement. However, the impact of different doses of FA supplementation and folate deficiency during the early stages of pregnancy requires further investigation. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible effects of FA supplementation and folate deficiency on expression of Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ER-α), Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-A (VEGFA), and Integrin alpha V and beta3 (Integrin αVβ3). A total of 32, 6-8-week old Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups of control, folate-deficiency, low-dose, and high-dose FA supplement groups. After five weeks of FA supplementation and folate deficiency model formation, mated rats were sacrificed on the 5th gestational day (GD), and implantation sites were collected. The expression of ER- α, VEGFA, and Integrin αVβ3 in the implantation sites were examined with immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR. The results revealed that the mRNA levels of ESR1, VEGFA, and Integrin αV and β3 were significantly increased in the high-dose FA group and significantly decreased in the folate deficiency group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that FA supplementation before pregnancy has positive effects on the maintenance of pregnancy, and folate deficiency may lead to implantation disorders.

Abstract
Background Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a common illness with long-term effects on mother and child. Nutrition is a crucial factor in mental health, but research findings on its connection to PPD are inconsistent. This review aims to explore the correlation between PPD and dietary patterns. Materials and Methods We conducted a comprehensive search of several databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, ISI and ISI/Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, and Iranian databases such as Magiran, Scientific Information Database (SID), and IRANDOC from 2003 to 2020. Our search was based on the keywords "postpartum depression" and "nutrition, vitamin D, Folic acid, iron, zinc, and vitamins." We applied the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist to select articles based on inclusion/exclusion criteria. Of the 100 articles identified, only 24 articles met our criteria and were selected for further analysis. Results Research suggests that low levels of vitamin D, iron, folate, and carbohydrates, and an unhealthy diet lacking in vegetables are potential causes of PPD. However, the impact of zinc, omega-3 essential fatty acids, and other nutrients such as antioxidants, vitamin E, and vitamin C on PPD is unclear due to conflicting information. Additionally, limited research has been conducted on the association between group B vitamins and PPD. Conclusions In conclusion, we can lower the risk of PPD by providing dietary guidance and working with healthcare providers. It is important to pay attention to our diet and make sure we are consuming enough vitamins and nutrients to support our mental health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To verify whether folic acid supplementation during pregnancy is associated with the occurrence of maternal depressive symptoms at three months postpartum, in the 2015 Pelotas Birth Cohort. METHODS This study included 4,046 women, who were classified into three groups: did not use folic acid supplementation during pregnancy; used during only one trimester of pregnancy; and used for two or three trimesters. Depressive symptoms were assessed at three months postpartum using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), at cutoff points ≥ 10 (mild symptoms) and ≥ 13 (moderate to severe intensity). RESULTS The overall prevalence of mild symptoms was of 20.2% (95%CI 19.0-21.5), and moderate and severe was 11% (95%CI 10.0-12.0). The prevalence of EPDS ≥ 10 was of 26.8% (95%CI 24.0-29.5) among women who did not use folic acid and 18.1% for both those who used it during one trimester of pregnancy (95%CI 16.1-20.1) and those who used it for two or three trimesters (95%CI 16.0-20.2). The prevalence of EPDS ≥ 13 was of 15.7% (95%CI 13.5-17.9) in those who did not use folic acid, 9.1% (95%CI 7.5-10.6) in those who used it for one trimester, and 9.4% (95%CI 7.8-11.0) in those who used it for two or three trimesters. In the adjusted analyses, there was no statistically significant association between the use of folic acid during pregnancy and the occurrence of depressive symptoms at three months postpartum. CONCLUSION There was no association between folic acid supplementation during pregnancy and postpartum depression at three months.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum depression refers to a depressive episode or depressive symptoms up to 12 mo after delivery. Trait mindfulness has presented a protective factor for postpartum depressive symptoms and proved efficient in improving relationship satisfaction among couples.
AIM To investigate the correlations among mindfulness, marital quality, anxiety, and depression in a large city in western China during the post-corona virus infectious disease-2019 era and determine whether trait mindfulness mediates the relationship between marital quality and postpartum anxiety and depression among primiparas.
METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted. The self-administered questionnaire was submitted online through smartphones. The levels of mindfulness, anxiety, depression, and marital quality were respectively investigated by the mindful attention awareness scale (MAAS), the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), the self-rating depression scale (SDS), and the marriage perception scale (MPS) in these enrolled Han and Tujia primiparas.
RESULTS No statistical significance was observed in the prevalence of postpartum anxiety and depression, nor scores of MAAS and MPS-Total in different regions or ethnicities (P > 0.05). However, MPS-Marital interaction (P < 0.05), MPS-Family relationship (MPS-FR) (P < 0.01), and MPS-Marital conflict (MPS-MC) (P < 0.01) scores of urban primiparas were higher than those of rural primiparas. The MPS-MC score of Han primiparas was higher than that of Tujia primiparas (P < 0.05). Negative correlations were observed between MAAS and SAS (r = -0.457, P < 0.01), and MAAS and SDS (r = -0.439, P < 0.01). SAS has revealed a highly positive correlation with SDS (r = 0.720, P < 0.01) and a weak negative correlation with MPS (r = -0.200, P < 0.05). Besides, a weak negative correlation was observed between MAAS and MPS-MC (r = -0.184, P < 0.05), and a weak positive correlation was noticed between SAS and MPS-MC (r = -0.225, P < 0.01). Mediation analysis demonstrated a full mediation effect of mindfulness level on the relationship between MPS-FR and postpartum anxiety (P < 0.05, 95%CI: -0.384 to 0.033), MPS-MC and postpartum anxiety (P < 0.01, 95%CI: 0.027-0.193), MPS-FR and postpartum depression (P < 0.05, 95%CI: -0.365 to 0.031), and MPS-MC and postpartum depression (P < 0.01, 95%CI: 0.022-0.206).
CONCLUSION Mindfulness demonstrates negative correlations with marital conflict, postpartum anxiety and depression, and it may have cross-ethnic and trans-regional characteristics. Although the mindfulness levels have revealed no significant mediating effect between the total score of marital quality and postpartum depression in this study, it demonstrates a full mediation effect on the relationships between family relationships, marital conflict, and postpartum anxiety and depression.

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of the study was to examine the mental health outcomes of folic acid (FA) supplement use in the antenatal and postnatal periods.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-prospective longitudinal study was conducted between 1 December 2019 and 30 January 2021 in a Family Health Center in eastern Turkey. The study was performed at one week in the postpartum period, at 6-8 weeks in the postpartum period, and at six months in the postpartum period. A total of 162 healthy pregnant women were included in the study. A Personal Information Form, the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) were used to collect data.
Results: While 32.7% (n=53) of the participants used FA supplementation from the pre-pregnancy period and in the first trimester of pregnancy (6 months in total), and 34.6% (n=56) used FA supplementation only in the first trimester of pregnancy. It was determined that 32.7% (n=53) of the participants did not use any FA supplement. Of those who did not use FA, 37.0% were in the antenatal period, and 50.8% were on the postnatal 6-8 days. It was determined that the participants experienced mild/moderate/severe anxiety in different weeks. BAI and EPDS scores were the lowest in the prenatal period, at 6-8 weeks in the postpartum period, and at 6 months in the postpartum period in those who used FA supplementation for 6 months. BAI and EPDS scores decreased significantly from the antenatal, to the postnatal 6-8-week, and to the postnatal 6-month measurements.
Conclusion: The use of FA supplements can be effective in preventing symptoms of anxiety and depression in the antenatal and postnatal period.

Association between Folic Acid Supplementation and Hypertensive Disorder Complicating Pregnancy in Jiangsu Province: A Cross-Sectional Study. Abstract
Objectives To investigate the association of folic acid (FA) supplementation with hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy (HDCP) and preeclampsia in Jiangsu Province, China. Materials and Methods In this cross-sectional study, a total of 10,662 women with infants born between January 2017 and December 2018 were enrolled in Jiangsu Province, China. Maternal women with and without FA supplement intake were compared in this study. FA supplementation included 0.4 mg FA (0.4 FA), multivitamins with 0.4 mg FA (multivitamin (MV)+0.4 FA), and multivitamins with 0.8 mg FA (MV + 0.8 FA). Associations between FA intake, FA supplement dose or duration, (MV + FA) dosage per weight, and HDCP were analysed using ANOVA, the chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis. Results Over the study follow-up period, the incidences of HDCP and preeclampsia were 3.5%, 1.4%, and 2.2%, 0.6% in the non-FA supplementation and FA supplementation groups, but only 1.5% and 0.1% in the MV + 0.8 FA group in early pregnancy. Compared with the non-FA group, HDCP and preeclampsia had the lowest risk in the MV + 0.8 FA group among the seven FA supplementation groups (HDCP: RR = 0.42, 95% CI = 0.27-0.68, P=0.001; preeclampsia: RR = 0.09, 95% CI = 0.03–0.33, P=0.001) in early pregnancy. Compared with the 0.4 FA alone group, the risk of HDCP and preeclampsia in women taking MV + 0.8 FA was significantly reduced (RR = 0.60, 95% CI = 0.41–0.87, P=0.008; preeclampsia: RR = 0.18, 95% CI = 0.06–0.60, P=0.005) in early pregnancy. (MV + FA)/BMI supplementation was associated with the risk of HDCP in early pregnancy (P trend = 0.002). Conclusions MV supplement with 0.8 mg FA during early pregnancy may be effective in reducing HDCP and preeclampsia risk. The study provided the viewpoint that (MV + FA)/BMI could be used as a reference for FA intake in pregnant women of different weights.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study was conducted to assess the real-world efficacy of a universal programme for the prevention of postpartum depression (PPD) in Shenzhen. Given the lack of evidence on routine PPD screening and intervention in China, it sought to provide insights for programme planning and implementation, particularly in relation to achievement of the targets set by the first national guidelines for PPD prevention and treatment. METHODS Using routine health information system data, the PPD screening, referral and intervention rates for 2015-2019 were calculated and compared to the programmes targets. Trends of variables were tested by using trend χ2. RESULTS The programme screened 137,761 to 178,857 women for PPD every year with the coverage among all postpartum women increased steadily from 71.1% to 82. 5% (χ2 = 10145.251, p < 0.001). The PPD-positive rate maintained between 4.06% and 4.89%. However, although referral messages were given to an increased percentage of PPD-positive women (χ2 = 1090.908, p < 0.001), the intervention rate (i.e., referral uptake) were far lower than the programme target of 80%. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated high efficacy of Shenzhen's comprehensive PPD prevention programme initiated in 2013. The resultant rise in the screening rate among all postpartum women, together with a high referral rate of those screened positive, have contributed to the city's relatively low PPD prevalence. PPD screening and intervention should be included as part of basic public health services to ensure universal coverage and specific strategies should be adopted to ensure referral uptake.

Abstract
Whether the mode of birth delivery correlates with the incidence of postpartum depression (PPD) is still under debate. This study seeks to clarify such a correlation and to further investigate if there are any differences in the likelihood of PPD medical care use among women with and without a history of depression. A logistic regression at two assessment points (6-month and 12-month postpartum) on the National Health Insurance Database in Taiwan is performed. In total, 32,729 women were included who gave first birth from 2007 to 2011 via cesarean section (CS), elective CS, and vaginal delivery, of whom 3580 (10.9%) were diagnosed with a history of depression. Findings show that CS was associated with a higher likelihood of PPD doctor visits regardless of whether the women have a history of depression or not, but elective CS tended to have different impacts for these two groups of women. Mentally healthy women who experienced elective CS had 1.36- and 1.64-times higher risk of PDD medical care use than those who delivered vaginally, whereas previous depressive women undertaking an elective cesarean birth had no significant difference observed in incidences. A notably higher risk of elective CS delivery versus vaginal delivery for mentally healthy women suggests that elective CS is not clinically appropriate, yet it might be an alternative to vaginal delivery with careful counseling for pregnant women who experience a history of depression.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is an important coenzyme in various physiological processes, including sirtuins (SIRTs) and kynurenine pathway (KP). Previous studies have shown that lower NAD levels can be indicative of increased risks of cancer and psychiatric disorders. However, there has been no prior study exploring the link between NAD homeostasis and psychiatric disorders from a genetic perspective. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association of genetic polymorphism in the pathways of NAD biosynthesis with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods: A total of 317 patients were included in the case group and were compared with sex-matched control group of 1268 participants (1:4 ratio) from Taiwan Biobank (TWB). All subjects in the control group were over 65 years old, which is well past the average age of onset of MDD. Genomic DNA extracted from patients' blood buffy coat was analyzed using the Affymetrix TWB array. Full-model tests were conducted for the analysis of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) in all candidate genes. We focused on genes within the NAD-related candidate pathways, including 15 in KP, 12 in nicotinate metabolism, 7 in SIRTs, and 19 in aldehyde dehydrogenases (ALDHs). A total of 508 SNPs were analyzed in this study. After significant SNPs were determined, 5000 genome-wide max(T) permutations were performed in Plink. Finally, we built a predictive model with logistic regression and assessed the interactions of SNPs with the haplotype association tests. Results: We found three SNPs that were significantly associated with MDD in our NAD-related candidate pathways, one within the KP (rs12622574 in ACMSD) and two within the nicotinate metabolism (rs28532698 in BST1 and rs3733593 in CD38). The observed association with MDD was significant in the dominant model of inheritance with marital status, education level, and body mass index (BMI) adjusted as covariates. Lastly, in haplotype analysis, the three associated SNPs consisted of one haploblock in ACMSD, four haploblocks in BST1, and two haploblocks in CD38. Conclusions: This study provides the first evidence that genetic variations involved in NAD homeostasis in the KP and nicotinate metabolism may be associated with the occurrence of MDD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies on the prevalence and predictors of postpartum depression (PPD) in China were mostly hospital-based with relatively small study samples. Basing on a routine screening programme, this study assessed the prevalence and factors associated with PPD at community level. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted with all the women who delivered in a hospital and were screened for depression during routine postpartum home visits in Shenzhen between 2015 August and 2017 April. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale was used as the screening tool with a cut-off score of 10. Predictors of PPD were determined by Chi-square test and stepwise logistic regression. RESULTS Approximately 300,000 puerperal women were included in the study with a PPD prevalence of 4.3%. Prenatal anxiety and depression were associated with 4.55 and 3.80 times of PPD risk, respectively. Stressful life events, family history of mental illness, poor economic status, low Apgar scores and birth defects of the infants, bottle and mixed feeding, as well as living with parents-in-low after childbirth were related to moderate risk. Higher gravidity and parity, larger gestation age, prenatal education, and living with the women's own parents were associated with lower risk. LIMITATIONS The large sample size might have suggested statistically significant differences which were not practical. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of PPD at community level is significantly lower than the rates detected within hospitals. Prenatal anxiety and depression are the most important predictors of PPD. Integrating depression screening into routine postpartum home visits facilitates achievement of universal coverage.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide updated guidance on pre-conception folic acid and multivitamin supplementation for primary and secondary (recurrence) prevention of neural tube defects and other folate-sensitive congenital anomalies. TARGET POPULATION Women aged 12-45 years who could become pregnant should be aware of the risk of serious birth defects without adequate pre-conception and first-trimester folic acid supplementation. OPTIONS Optimizing folic acid supplementation is complex and depends on factors including dosage; type of supplement; bioavailability of folate from food, timing of initiating supplementation; and metabolic and genetic factors. For all women who could become pregnant, a low daily dosage of folic acid is recommended before conception and throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. High-dosage folic acid supplementation is recommended only for women who can become pregnant and have had a previous pregnancy affected by a neural tube defect or other folate-sensitive congenital anomaly. Directed personalized approaches could be considered and adopted for women who can become pregnant and have complex risks (genetic, medical, or surgical risk factors), using new knowledge of co-factor metabolism and synergy, as well as red blood cell or serum folate testing. Such approaches would require changes to current provincial health care maternal serum folate screening/testing. OUTCOMES New approaches to oral folic acid supplementation, including triage tools, need to be considered to optimize the benefits of decreasing risk of neural tube defects and folate-sensitive congenital anomalies. BENEFITS, HARMS, AND COSTS Oral folic acid supplementation, or dietary folate intake combined with a multivitamin/micronutrient supplement, is associated with lower rates of neural tube defects, other folate-sensitive birth defects, and obstetrical complications. The costs are those attributable to daily vitamin supplementation and a healthy, folate-rich diet. EVIDENCE A literature search was designed and carried in PubMed and the Cochrane Library databases from 1990 to 2021 using following MeSH terms and keywords (and variants): folic acid supplementation; folate food fortification; primary neural tube defect prevention; prevention of recurrence of neural tube defects; folate-sensitive birth defects; folate supplementation benefit; folate supplementation risk; folate pregnant woman physiology; pregnant woman RBC folate level; pregnant woman serum folate levels; folate and epilepsy; folate and obesity. This guideline was based upon expert guidelines or opinions, systematic reviews, randomized controlled clinical trials, and observational case-control studies and case series retrieved, published in English from 1990 to 2021. VALIDATION METHODS The authors rated the quality of evidence and strength of recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the association between iron body status and postpartum depression (PPD) among mothers during the postpartum period. DESIGN This is a case-control study. SETTING Governmental primary health care centres in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. PARTICIPANTS This study involved 300 mothers a month after delivery, with one 150 mothers that were recruited in the cases group who were diagnosed with PPD based on Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) ≥ 10. The control group included 150 mothers did not have PPD (EPDS < 10). Body iron status is represented by the index of sTfR/log ferritin. RESULTS Among PPD mothers, 43·3 % had low ferritin level v. 15·3 % for controls (P < 0·001) and cases v. controls difference in mean Hb level was -0·61 (95 % CI -0·86, -0·35). The results of the multiple logistic regression reported that there is a statistically significant association between PPD and the body iron status existed, as mothers who suffered from iron deficiency (ID) were three times more likely to have PPD (ORadj 3·25; P = 0·015). Furthermore, the results of the final regression model showed that the other factors that can lead to PPD are absence of psychological guidance services (ORadj 8·54; P = 0·001), suffering from undesired feeling in the last pregnancy (ORadj 1·77; P = 0·034), in addition to having one of the mental health disorders in the last pregnancy (P = 0·001). CONCLUSION Body iron status might be a risk factor for postpartum depression and other possibilities of reverse causality may worsen the condition.

OBJECTIF Offrir des recommandations à jour sur l'utilisation de multivitamines et de suppléments d'acide folique avant la conception pour la prévention primaire et secondaire (récidive) des anomalies du tube neural et des autres anomalies congénitales sensibles à l'acide folique. POPULATION CIBLE Les femmes de 12 à 45 ans qui pourraient devenir enceintes doivent être informées des risques importants d'anomalies congénitales en l'absence d'une supplémentation adéquate en acide folique avant la conception et pendant le premier trimestre. OPTIONS La supplémentation optimale en acide folique est complexe et repose sur divers facteurs tels que la dose, le type de suppléments, la biodisponibilité du folate dans l'alimentation, le moment du début de la supplémentation ainsi que sur les facteurs métaboliques et génétiques. Pour toutes les femmes qui peuvent devenir enceintes, une faible dose quotidienne d'acide folique est recommandée avant la conception et pendant la grossesse et l'allaitement. La supplémentation à forte dose d'acide folique est recommandée uniquement chez les femmes qui peuvent devenir enceintes et qui ont un antécédent de grossesse avec anomalie du tube neural ou toute autre anomalie congénitale sensible à l'acide folique. Il est possible d'envisager et d'adopter une approche personnalisée chez les femmes qui peuvent devenir enceintes et qui présentent des risques complexes (facteurs de risque génétiques, médicaux ou chirurgicaux) en se fondant sur les nouvelles connaissances en matière de métabolisme et synergie des cofacteurs et sur l'analyse du taux sérique et érythrocytaire d'acide folique. Ce genre d'approche exige une modification des protocoles provinciaux actuels de santé publique concernant le dépistage et l'analyse du taux sérique maternel d'acide folique. RéSULTATS: Les nouvelles stratégies de supplémentation en acide folique par voie orale, y compris dans les outils de triage, doivent être prises en compte pour diminuer de façon optimale le risque d'anomalies du tube neural et d'anomalies congénitales sensibles à l'acide folique. BéNéFICES, RISQUES ET COûTS: On observe une diminution du taux d'anomalies du tube neural, des autres anomalies congénitales sensibles à l'acide folique et des complications obstétricales chez les femmes qui prennent des suppléments oraux d'acide folique ou qui complémentent leur apport alimentaire en folate au moyen de multivitamines ou de suppléments de micronutriments. Les coûts relatifs sont liés à la prise quotidienne de suppléments vitaminiques et à l'adoption d'un régime alimentaire sain et riche en folate. Abstract
Depressive disorder is one of the most common psychiatric syndromes that, if left untreated, can cause many disturbances in a person's life. Numerous factors are involved in depression, including inflammation, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), GABAergic system, hypothalamic- pituitary-adrenal (HPA) Axis, monoamine neurotransmitters (serotonin (5-HT), noradrenaline, and dopamine). Common treatments for depression are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors, but these drugs have several side effects such as anxiety, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, and sexual dysfunctions. These agents only reduce the symptoms and temporarily reduce the rate of cognitive impairment associated with depression. As a result, extensive research has recently been conducted on the potential use of antidepressant and sedative herbs. According to the available data, herbs used in traditional medicine can be significantly effective in reducing depression, depressive symptoms and improving patients' performance. The present study provides a summary of biomarkers and therapeutic goals of depression and shows that natural products such as saffron or genipin have antidepressant effects. Some of the useful natural products and their mechanisms were evaluated. Data on various herbs and natural isolated compounds reported to prevent and reduce depressive symptoms is also discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The blood folic acid1(FA) level of depressed patients seems to be lower than that of normal, and pregnant women are at greater risk of FA deficiency. The relationship between FA and perinatal depression has not been well described. METHODS We conducted a meta-analysis of the evidence for the association between the two, using current FA supplementation behavior during pregnancy and blood FA levels as exposures, and the incidence of perinatal depressive symptoms and mean Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale2 (EPDS) scores as outcomes. The present study was recorded in PROSPERO (2019 CRD: 42,020,211,509). RESULTS Fifteen studies were identified, covering a total of 26,275 women from eleven observational studies and four randomized controlled trials. For the primary outcome of folic acid supplementation behavior and risk of perinatal depression, the overall odds ratio was 0.742 (95% CI: (0.647-0.852)), with a combined effect value of 0.84 (95% CI: (0.76, 0.93)) for studies in which an OR could be extracted. A negative association was observed between blood folate levels and depressive symptoms (Standardized mean difference (SMD) =-0.127, 95% CI:(-0.183,-0.071)). No association was observed between folic acid intervention and EPDS score. Continuous supplementation of folic acid during pregnancy may reduce the incidence of perinatal depressive symptoms (R = 0.017, (95 CI%:(0.014, 0.021)). LIMITATIONS Lack of rigorous randomized controlled trials due to ethical issues, and the research is heterogeneous and does not consider the influence of genetic factors. CONCLUSIONS Continuous use of FA during pregnancy may reduce the incidence of perinatal depressive symptoms.

Abstract
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is an incapacitating condition characterized by loss of interest, anhedonia and low mood, which affects almost 4% of people worldwide. With rising prevalence, it is considered a public health issue that affects economic productivity and heavily increases health costs alone or as a comorbidity for other pandemic non-communicable diseases (such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, inflammatory bowel diseases, etc.). What is even more noteworthy is the double number of women suffering from MDD compared to men. In fact, this sex-related ratio has been contemplated since men and women have different sexual hormone oscillations, where women meet significant changes depending on the age range and moment of life (menstruation, premenstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause…), which seem to be associated with susceptibility to depressive symptoms. For instance, a decreased estrogen level promotes decreased activation of serotonin transporters. Nevertheless, sexual hormones are not the only triggers that alter neurotransmission of monoamines and other neuropeptides. Actually, different dietary habits and/or nutritional requirements for specific moments of life severely affect MDD pathophysiology in women. In this context, the present review aims to descriptively collect information regarding the role of malnutrition in MDD onset and course, focusing on female patient and especially macro- and micronutrient deficiencies (amino acids, ω3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω3 PUFAs), folate, vitamin B12, vitamin D, minerals…), besides providing evidence for future nutritional intervention programs with a sex-gender perspective that hopefully improves mental health and quality of life in women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the strengths and limitations of existing data to provide guidance for the use of folate supplements as treatment, with or without other psychotropic medications, in various psychiatric disorders. To identify area for further research in terms of the biosynthesis of mechanism of folate and genetic variants in metabolic pathway in human. METHODS A systematic review of published literature following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, to assess whether folate supplements are beneficial in certain psychiatric disorders (depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Methodology of this review is registered with Prospero (Registration number CRD 42021266605). DATA SOURCES Eligible studies were identified using a systematic search of four electronic databases: Embase, Pubmed, PsycINFO, and Cochrane. The search strategy covered the time period from 1974 to August 16th, 2021. Therefore, this review examines randomized control trials or open-label trials completed during this period. RESULTS We identified 23 studies of folate supplements in various psychiatric disorders for critical review. Of these, 9 studies investigated the efficacy of folate supplements in major depressive disorders, 5 studies in schizophrenia, 6 studies in autism spectrum disorder, 2 studies in bipolar affective disorder and 1 study in attention deficit hyperactive disorder. The most consistent finding association of oral levomefolic acid or 5-methylfolate with improvement in clinical outcomes in mental health conditions as mentioned above, especially in major depressive disorder (including postpartum and post-menopausal depression), schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar affective disorder. Folate supplements were well tolerated. LIMITATION Our results are not representative of all types of studies such as case reports or case series studies, nor are they representative of the studies conducted in languages that are not in English or not translated in English. CONCLUSION Increasing evidence from clinical trials consistently demonstrate folate supplements, especially levomefolic acid or 5-methylfolate, may improve clinical outcomes for certain psychiatric diseases, especially as an adjunct pharmacotherapy with minimal side effects.

Abstract
Gestational folic acid (FA) supplementation has been widely recognized for its benefits in preventing offspring defects, but its effect on postpartum females has not yet been adequately assessed. The occurrence of emotional and cognitive dysfunction is common in postpartum women, and its treatment remains limited. Considering the promising results of FA in various psychiatric disorders both in human and redents, we tested the effect of gestational FA administration on postpartum psychiatric behavioral phenotypes and the implicated brain-related mechanisms in a murine model. FA was administered orally in both the hormone-stimulated-pregnancy (HSP) model and pregnant mice at doses of 1 and 5 mg/kg. Postpartum behavioral results showed that the disorders of cognitive performance, depressive, and anxiety-related behaviors were all alleviated in the 5 mg/kg FA group. However, the general development of their offspring remained unaffected. Immunofluorescence and immunoblot results revealed that FA pretreatment significantly activated the maternal hippocampal BDNF-related pathway. Morphological studies have confirmed that FA promotes hippocampal neurogenesis. Moreover, synaptic plasticity and synaptic transmission are enhanced. All of these hippocampal changes play critical roles in rescuing neuronal function and behaviors. Thus, our data suggest that gestational FA administration has a therapeutic effect that improves cognition and reduces depression and anxiety in a murine postpartum model. This may be developed as a preventive and adjuvant therapeutic option for pregnant women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major public health problem worldwide, which adversely affects maternal and infant health. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and related factors of postpartum depression in Chinese puerperium women. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in Baoan Maternal and Child Health Hospital located in the west of Shenzhen, China. The Chinese version of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to screen PPD. A score of ≥10 was used as the threshold of postpartum depression. RESULTS A total of 4813 puerperal women were included in this study, 11.5% of whom were considered to have PPD. Multivariate logistic regression analysis found that family history of mental illness (OR = 1.94; 95% CI, 1.05-3.57; P = 0.033), living with parents-in-law (OR = 1.41; 95% CI, 1.16-1.72; P < 0.001), anxiety during pregnancy (OR = 3.66; 95% CI, 2.97-4. 52; P < 0.001), depression during pregnancy (OR = 4.25; 95% CI, 3.28-5.50; P < 0.001), and stressful life events (OR = 1.50; 95% CI, 1.03-2.20; P = 0.036) were associated with the high prevalence of PPD. LIMITATIONS The cross-sectional survey cannot assess direct causality. EPDS is just a screening tool and not a diagnostic one. CONCLUSION Postpartum depression is a common disease in Chinese puerperal population. High-risk pregnant women with postpartum depression need routine screening and targeted intervention for PPD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin B12 is an essential micronutrient for neurological function, as it leads to the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine, which is precursor of biologically active molecule S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAM). Pregnancy is a state of increased demand and delayed postpartum repletion of nutrients may predispose women to depression. METHODS We included women who visited the hospital at 6-weeks postpartum for a regular checkup. Inclusion criteria were age (18-50 years), and willingness to donate venous sample for analysis. Exclusion criteria included previous history of mood disorders or antidepressant medication use, and any systemic illness like hypothyroidism, epilepsy, diabetes, and hypertension. Based on EPDS score of 10 as a cutoff, 217 women with probable postpartum depression (PPD) and equal number of age and BMI matched controls were included. Plasma total vitamin B12, holotranscobalamin (holotc), homocysteine (hcy), methyl malonic acid (MMA), 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate (THF), SAM and serotonin levels were estimated using commercially available ELISA kits. Combined B12 (cB12) score was calculated from study parameters. Multivariate analysis was performed to assess the risk of probable postpartum depression. RESULTS Total vitamin B12 and combined B12 score were found to be significantly lower (p = 0.001) and MMA (p = 0.002) and 5-methyl THF (p < 0.001) levels were higher in women with probable depression than women without probable PPD. Women in the lowest vitamin B12 quartile had 4.53 times higher likelihood of probable postpartum depression (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that decreasing vitamin B12 (OR = 0.394; 95% CI: 0.189-0.822) and cB12 (OR = 0.293; 95% CI: 0182-0.470) and increasing MMA (OR = 2.14; 95% CI: 1.63-2.83) and 5-methyl THF levels (OR = 3.29; 95% CI: 1.59-6.83) were significantly associated with the risk of probable PPD. CONCLUSION Low vitamin B12 may contribute to depressive symptoms in vulnerable postpartum period.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between serum folic acid (FA) levels and erectile dysfunction (ED) through a meta-analysis. A research was conducted in MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE and Web of Science up to 22 November 2020 to identify studies related to FA and ED. Two authors independently screened the literature, evaluated methodological quality and extracted the data. We used RevMan5.3 and STATA 14.0 for meta-analysis. A total of six studies including 1,842 participants were included, and the results showed that the FA levels in the non-ED group were significantly higher than those in the ED group (MD = 3.37, 95% CI 1.49-5.52, p = 0.004). Subgroup analysis indicated that with the increase in ED severity, the difference in FA levels between groups was more obvious (MD: 1.99 vs. 4.63 vs. 5.63). The differences in FA levels between groups seem more significant in the younger group (MD = 4.87, 95% CI 2.58-6.89, p < 0.001) than in the older group (MD = 3.15, 95% CI 2.21-4.08, p < 0.001). In conclusion, FA deficiency is closely related to ED, and the degree of FA deficiency may reflect the severity of ED. In addition, the association seems to be more pronounced in the younger group.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Perinatal depression is a maternal mental health condition that is associated with various adverse health outcomes both for the mothers and the babies. The study aim was to estimate the prevalence of perinatal depression and its risks and determinants in Mainland China. METHODS Systematic searches were conducted in 10 major databases and random effect meta-analysis was performed to achieve the pooled variance of perinatal depression. Subgroup analyses were conducted based on region, scale, methods of diagnosis and study design. Meta-regression was performed with the variables such as age, quality assessment score and gross domestic product (GDP) of the province. RESULTS Pooled prevalence of perinatal depression was 16.3% (CI=95%; 14.7% to 18.2%, P < 0.001), with antenatal depression 19.7% (CI=95%; 15.8% to 24.2%, P < 0.001) and postnatal depression 14.8% (CI=95%; 13.1% to 16.6%, P < 0.001). Significant publication bias was found and heterogeneity was I2= 98.13%. Lower socioeconomic status, poor physical health, anxiety about pregnancy and reduced social support were major risk factors while better living conditions and higher level of education were protective factors. The prevalence of perinatal depression showed a significant increasing trend in the last decade. LIMITATIONS The review does not include studies with small sample size (n <250). Moreover a narrative review of risk and protective factors was done, these were not included in meta-analysis. CONCLUSION The prevalence of perinatal depression in China is similar to low and middle-income countries. Urgent attention is needed to address this public health priority in China.

Abstract
Postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum psychosis (PPP) are serious mental conditions that are usually not diagnosed early enough, leading to delayed treatment. Several studies confirmed an association between preeclampsia (PE) and psychiatric disorders during pregnancy. We conducted a systematic review of the literature aiming to investigate whether women with a history of PE are more likely to develop PPD or PPP, and whether PE is a risk factor for depression outside the perinatal period (PROSPERO protocol number CRD42018114188). We also conducted a meta-analysis to quantitatively assess the severity of depressive symptoms between women with and without a history of PE. A literature search with no year and no language restriction was conducted. The search yielded 950 articles, with 698 remaining after duplicate removal, and 13 being suitable for the systematic review. Eight of the 13 studies found an association between preeclampsia and depression. All studies assessed the impact of PE on depression, and only two studies assessed the impact of PE on PPP. Eight of the studies were included in the meta-analysis, which yielded a higher severity of depressive symptoms postpartum in women with PE. However, these results must be interpreted with caution considering the high heterogeneity of the included studies. Our meta-analysis also showed that women with a history of PE showed higher severity of depressive symptoms outside of the puerperal period. In conclusion, this systematic review and meta-analysis suggest that that PE is not only a risk factor for development of depression, but it is also associated with higher severity of depressive symptoms.

Abstract
Perinatal depression is the most common complication of pregnancy and affects the mother, fetus, and infant. Recent preclinical studies and a limited number of clinical studies have suggested an influence of the gut microbiome on the onset and course of mental health disorders. In this review, we examine the current state of knowledge regarding genetics, epigenetics, heritability, and neuro-immuno-endocrine systems biology in perinatal mood disorders, with a particular focus on the interaction between these factors and the gut microbiome, which is mediated via the gut-brain axis. We also provide an overview of experimental and analytical methods that are currently available to researchers interested in elucidating the influence of the gut microbiome on mental health disorders during pregnancy and postpartum.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum depression, which has affected one in six women after giving birth, can exert detrimental effects on maternal, children and family well-being. This study investigated the association between dietary patterns and postpartum depression among Chinese women. METHODS A total of 1659 participants were recruited and collected between July 2015 and June 2017 in Tianjin, China. The Chinese version of the Self-Rating Depression Scale was used to assess depressive symptoms at 6-12 weeks postpartum. Information about diet was obtained using an 81-item food frequency questionnaire. Logistic regression models were used to assess relationships between dietary patterns and the risk of postpartum depression. RESULTS Six dietary patterns were identified by principal component analysis, including beverage, vegetable, cereal-meat, nut-fruit, egg and seafood patterns. The highest tertile (T3) of the nut-fruit pattern was significantly associated with a decreased risk of postpartum depression (OR: 0.740, 95% CI: 0.573-0.955, p = =0.020). Moreover, T3 of the seafood pattern was associated with a lower risk of postpartum depression than the lowest tertile (T1) of this pattern (OR: 0.753, 95% CI: 0.580-0.978, p = =0.033). No other associations were found. LIMITATIONS A retrospective study. CONCLUSIONS The nut-fruit pattern and seafood pattern were associated with a decreased risk of postpartum depression in Chinese women. The present findings reinforce the importance of an adequate diet of fruit, nuts, and seafood for postpartum women.

Abstract
Background: Acne is one of the most common skin diseases and is frequently associated with depression, social isolation, and suicidal ideation. Some studies have investigated the link of either acne or depression and serum levels of vitamin B12 and folic acid (FA), but none appear to have examined the effect of these vitamins on acne patients with or without depression. Objective: This case-control study sought to assess whether serum levels of vitamin B12 and FA could be considered possible predictors for depression and acne severity in patients with moderate and severe acne. Methods: Forty patients with acne and 40 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were enrolled. Acne severity and depression were assessed according to the Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) and the Arabic version of the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), respectively. Five milliliters of blood was obtained by clean venipuncture to determine B12 and FA levels by way of double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: According to GAGS score, moderate acne was the most prominent form of the condition (55%), followed by severe (25%) and very severe (20%). Seventy percent of patients with acne had depression according to BDI-II score versus zero percent in the control group (p<0.001). Patients with moderate and severe acne in this study had significantly lower serum levels of vitamin B12 and FA when compared to controls (p=0.012 and p<0.001) and their levels showed a significant negative correlation with acne severity according to GAGS score. Conclusion: Screening for vitamin B12 and FA deficiency can be particularly relevant in patients with acne to assess depression risk. Folate supplementation should be considered for patients with acne and comorbid depression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pre-eclampsia is a serious hypertension disease that occurs during pregnancy. Folic acid (FA) supplementation has been reported to reduce pre-eclampsia risk in pregnant women. Here, we aimed to assess whether treatment of high doses of FA in pregnant women with high pre-eclampsia risk could prevent the onset of pre-eclampsia. METHODS We conducted a randomized clinical trial in 1576 women who had pre-eclampsia or eclampsia in their last pregnancy and had a pregnancy plan. Subjects were randomized into two groups. The low dose (LD) group (n = 788) received 0.4 mg of FA daily from the first 3 months of pregnancy until the entire pregnancy, and the high dose (HD) group (n = 788) received 4 mg of FA per day. We followed up the subjects until production. RESULTS The plasma homocysteine (homocysteine) and FA levels were significantly higher in the HD group that in the LD group. Severe gestational hypertension, early onset pre-eclampsia (<32 weeks' gestation), severe pre-eclampsia, and newborns' Apgar score <7 at 5 min were remarkably decreased in the HD group compared with the LD group. Further, the incidence of pre-eclampsia was reduced in the HD group with compliance >50%. CONCLUSION This study has provided evidence that a high dosage of FA supplement from 3 months before pregnancy until the entire pregnancy reduces the recurrent pre-eclampsia.

Abstract
Isotretinoin (ISO) is a first-generation retinoid discovered in 1952 and approved by the FDA for the treatment of nodulocystic acne in 1982. The anti-inflammatory properties of ISO have found its use in disorders other than acne. ISO can create psychiatric problems, including depression and suicidal ideation. These neuropsychiatric problems are very similar to disorders secondary to hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy), vitamin B12, and folic acid (vitamin B9) deficiencies. Given that previous literature suggested folate supplementation improved the efficacy of traditional antidepressant medications, clinicians may wish to consider folate supplementation for patients with depression or possible depressive symptoms, such as acne patients with genetic susceptibility. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor may be a cytokine-specific screening biomarker in immune-based antidepressive therapy.

Abstract
Folate is an important regulator of hippocampal neurogenesis, and folic acid is needed prenatally to reduce the risk of neural tube defects. Both high levels of folic acid and low levels of folate can be harmful to health because low levels of folate have been linked to several diseases while high folic acid supplements can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency. Depressed patients exhibit folate deficiencies, lower levels of hippocampal neurogenesis, elevated levels of homocysteine and elevated levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, which may be inter-related. In the present study, we were interested in whether different doses of natural folate or synthetic folic acid diets can influence neurogenesis in the hippocampus, levels of plasma homocysteine and serum corticosterone in adult female rats. Adult female Sprague-Dawley rats underwent dietary interventions for 29 days. Animals were randomly assigned to six different dietary groups: folate deficient + succinylsulphathiazole (SST), low 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF), low 5-MTHF + (SST), high 5-MTHF + SST, low folic acid and high folic acid. SST was added to a subset of the 5-MTHF diets to eliminate folic acid production in the gut. Before and after dietary treatment, blood samples were collected for corticosterone and homocysteine analysis, and brain tissue was collected for neurogenesis analysis. High folic acid and low 5-MTHF without SST increased the number of immature neurones (doublecortin-expressing cells) within the ventral hippocampus compared to folate deficient controls. Low 5-MTHF without SST significantly increased the number of immature neurones compared to low and high 5-MTHF + SST, indicating that SST interfered with elevations in neurogenesis. Low folic acid and high 5-MTHF + SST reduced plasma homocysteine levels compared to controls, although there was no significant effect of diet on serum corticosterone levels. In addition, low folic acid and high 5-MTHF + SST reduced the number of mature new neurones in the ventral hippocampus (bromodeoxyuridine/NeuN-positive cells) compared to folate deficient controls. Overall, folic acid dose-dependently influenced neurogenesis with low levels decreasing but high levels increasing neurogenesis in the ventral hippocampus, suggesting that this region, which is important for regulating stress, is particularly sensitive to folic acid in diets. Furthermore, the addition of SST negated the effects of 5-MTHF to increase neurogenesis in the ventral hippocampus.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of maternal high dietary protein intake on the hepatic growth axis in offspring. METHODS Fourteen primiparous purebred Meishan sows were fed either a standard-protein (SP, n = 7) diet or a high-protein (HP, 150% of SP, n = 7) diet during pregnancy. Offspring (one male and one female per group, n = 14) on day 70 of the embryonic stage and on days 1, 35 and 180 after birth were selected, weighed and killed. Serum samples were analyzed for Tch, insulin and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) levels. Liver samples were analyzed for IGFBP-3 and IGF-I mRNA expression by qRT-PCR and for IGFBP-3, IGF1R and growth hormone receptor (GHR) protein expression by Western blotting. The underlying mechanism of IGFBP-3 regulation was determined by methylated DNA immunoprecipitation (MeDIP) and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP). RESULTS High-protein exposure resulted in significantly higher body and liver weights of piglets, and it increased their serum T3 and T4 levels at birth and/or at weaning. Furthermore, the IGFBP-3 protein content in the liver and serum was significantly reduced in the HP-exposed weaning piglets, whereas at the transcriptional level IGFBP-3 mRNA expression was downregulated in the livers of HP group piglets. Finally, DNA hypermethylation and higher enrichment of the histone repressive marks H3K27me3 and H3K9me3 were observed. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, these results suggest that a maternal high-protein diet during gestation epigenetically reprograms IGFBP-3 gene expression to modulate the hepatic growth axis in weaning piglets.

Abstract
Background Identifying and understanding the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) level of women at the periconceptional period has implications for formulating and measuring the adverse pregnancy outcomes for primary prevention. Methods A cross-sectional study among pregestational and pregnant women was conducted in Shaanxi during 2016–2017. Results Among 791 participants, the average score of periconceptional healthcare knowledge awareness was 6.32 ± 1.78, whereas 28.8% of women have failed. Women who planned to or had undergone premarital and pre-pregnancy examinations accounted for 50.2, and 62.5%, respectively. Less than half (42.0%) of the women started taking folic acid (FA) before pregnancy, and only 37.9% of them took FA regularly at the right time. Multivariate analysis showed that age was the main factor influencing the Attitude and Practice level of women at the periconceptional period, and demonstrated a positive effect on the awareness of right timing of folic acid supplementation, and high rates of premarital and pre-pregnancy examinations. Also, the knowledge pass rate was increased with education level. Fewer women who have birth experience were willing to take FA consistently at the right time compared to those women without birth. Conclusions The women at the periconceptional period in Shaanxi lacked the total KAP level of periconceptional healthcare, especially those who live in rural areas and have less education. Government agencies should reinforce more effective primary preventive measures and policies for the prevention of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Abstract
Background Postpartum depression (PPD) and preeclampsia (PE) are both common diseases in obstetrics that affect maternal health and infant development. However, the relationship between the two diseases still requires clarification. Objective The purpose of this study was to (1) determine the incidence rate of PPD in patients with PE and (2) identify the association between the prevalence of PPD and the severity of PE. Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of women with and without PE who delivered between January 1, 2017, and August 30, 2018, in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. We used a questionnaire survey methodology that included the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) to test the influence of PE on the development of new-onset PPD in the 6 weeks after delivery. We determined PPD based on a score ≥10 on the EPDS. Bivariate analysis was used to compare data between the two groups. Results A total of 180 women participated in this study. Thirty-five people screened positive for PPD, while the remaining 145 screened negative. The prevalence of PPD was 26.67% (24/90) in patients with PE, which was two times the prevalence in normal women (12.22%). Multiple logistic regression showed that women who had PE had nearly 3-fold increased odds of PPD compared to normal women and the risk of PPD increased with the aggravation of PE. Patients with severe PE had a more than 4-fold increased risk of screening positive for PPD. Conclusion PE was independently associated with PPD. Furthermore, the risk of PPD seemed to increase with the aggravation of PE. Thus, additional prevention efforts and support methods should be provided for women with PE to reduce the incidence of PPD.

Abstract
This article provides a focused review of the evidence for several complementary health approaches (ie, omega-3 fatty acids, folate, vitamin D, selenium, zinc, magnesium, B vitamins, physical activity, yoga) in the treatment of perinatal depression. There is evidence that some of these treatments may be reasonable to consider in women during pregnancy or the postpartum period. However, there are little data on the comparative safety and efficacy of these relative to traditional treatments (eg, psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy). Adequately powered high-quality studies are necessary to determine the role of complementary health practices for treating perinatal depression.

Abstract
This randomized controlled trial was conducted on 189 pregnant women to determine the effect of lifestyle-based training for women and their husbands on post-partum anxiety (PPA) and depression (PPD). Follow-ups were continued up for 6 weeks after childbirth. Participants were allocated to three groups using block randomization. In the first intervention group, both the women and their husbands, and in the second intervention group only the women received the lifestyle-based education. In the control group, women received only routine care. Participants completed the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory pre-intervention and 6 weeks after childbirth. When compared with the control group, significant reductions in PPD (adjusted difference: -5.5), state anxiety (-13.6) and trait anxiety (-12.6) scores were observed in the lifestyle education-dyad group, and also significant reductions in PPD (-3.2), state anxiety (-5.8) and trait anxiety (-4.9) scores were observed in the lifestyle education-women only group. Also, significant reductions were observed in PPD (-2.2), state anxiety (-7.8) and trait anxiety (-7.7) scores in the lifestyle education-dyad group compared with the lifestyle education-women only group. Results showed the positive effect of lifestyle training on PPD and PPA, especially if the training is given to the parental dyad.

Abstract
Depression is one of the leading causes of disability around the world. Although several studies have been conducted to analyze the association between vitamins and depression, the results have been inconsistent. Based on the database of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2005⁻2006), a cross-sectional analysis was conducted to uncover the correlations between serum vitamin concentrations and depression in 2791 participants over 20 years of age. Vitamin concentrations in serum were measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), a standardized liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) or radioassay kit method. A nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was used to assess depression symptoms. The binary logistic regression model was applied to analyze the association between vitamins and depression. In the whole population, negative associations were discovered between folate concentrations (p for trend = 0.02), trans-β-carotene (p for trend = 0.01) and depression, while positive associations were found among vitamin B12 concentrations (p for trend = 0.008), vitamin A concentrations (p for trend = 0.01) and depression. In order to evaluate the influence of gender on the pathogenesis of depression of vitamins exposure, we performed gender-stratified analysis. In females, folate concentrations (p for trend = 0.03) and vitamin B12 concentrations (p for trend = 0.02) were correlated with depression. In males, no significant association was found between depression and serum vitamin concentrations. The correlation of vitamins with depression deserves further investigation in larger and diverse populations, especially in females.
