Adoption of mobile learning in the university context: Systematic literature review

The study on the adoption of mobile learning in university education reveals a growing interest in mobile technologies to improve the learning process; both the acceptance and rejection of these tools among students have been analyzed. However, there are gaps in the research that require a deeper exploration of the factors that influence the adoption and use of these technologies. Understanding these aspects is crucial to optimize mobile learning strategies and improve the educational experience in the university setting. The objective is to examine research trends regarding the topic. PRISMA-2020 is used in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. The results show the questionnaires as the main collection instruments; geographical contexts show that it has been researched predominantly in Asia; The studies have focused on university students; the most applied theories are TAM and UTAUT; and latent variables such as behavioral intention and attitude. The conclusions summarize the trends and patterns observed in the reviewed literature, as well as the research gaps identified, providing a solid foundation for future research and highlighting the importance of addressing this issue in the current context of digital education. The systematic review identifies key models and factors in the adoption of mobile learning in university settings, revealing both theoretical and practical implications. Furthermore, this text provides practical guidance for selecting effective data collection tools and making informed educational and policy decisions. However, it acknowledges limitations such as potential publication and language bias in the search process.

Application interface design of Chongqing intangible cultural heritage based on deep learning

In order to integrate the concept of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) protection into the construction of smart cities, realize the organic integration of smart cities and cultural heritage, and improve the cultural experience of urban residents and tourists, this study explores an interactive design scheme of smart cities application interface applied to ICH protection to meet the needs of protection and inheritance. Firstly, the ICH of Chongqing is sorted out and classified. The ICH-related APP interfaces in the market are analyzed through investigation. Secondly, an image recognition algorithm of ICH based on deep learning (DL) technology is proposed and applied in APP to realize automatic recognition and introduction of ICH. Finally, a set of APP interface interaction design schemes is designed based on user habits and visual feelings to enhance user experience. The experimental results reveal: (1) The model for recognizing ICH images using the convolutional neural network (CNN) has higher recognition accuracy, recall, and F1 value than the model without CNNs; (2) After incorporating transfer learning (TL) into the model, the recognition accuracy, recall, and F1 value of the model have further improved; (3) The survey results show that the Chongqing ICH APP interface system based on DL technology, user habits, and visual perception performs better in terms of user experience, usability, and other aspects. This study aims to design an APP interface system for the Chongqing ICH based on DL technology, user habits, and visual perception, to improve user experience and usability. Future research directions can further optimize image recognition algorithms to improve ICH's recognition accuracy and efficiency. Meanwhile, new technologies, such as virtual reality, are combined to enhance users' interactive experience and immersion.

Examining the critical factors of internal audit effectiveness from internal auditors' perspective: Moderating role of extrinsic rewards

An effective internal auditor can support an organization in achieving its goals and protect its assets and funds. However, to be effective, the internal auditors need to be empowered with relevant resources. This study aims at probing the influence of the empowerments (management support, external auditors' collaboration, independence, size of internal audit units, and extrinsic rewards) on the internal auditors' effectiveness, and to examin whether extrinsic rewards moderate the association between respective empowerments and the effectiveness of Jordanian public sector internal auditors'. The current work relied on 117 surveys collected from Jordan's internal audit and financial managers in the public sectors. According to the Resource-Based View (RBV), the findings show that management support, external auditors cooperation, independence, and extrinsic rewards all have a significant influence on the effectiveness of internal auditor. The of the Internal Audit Department (IAD) size was discovered to be insignificant. Also, the results have revealed partial support for the influence of the extrinsic reward as a moderator. Because of the prominence of the public sector in the Jordanian market, this current research expands on the idea of enabling internal auditor (IA) to accomplish their assigned objectives. The findings might help authorities develop new norms and legislation for the internal audit profession. These empowering characteristics may also improve internal auditors' capacity to execute their duty in saving public monies and limiting corrupt practices inside public sector organizations.

The influence of accounting information system adoption on business performance amid COVID-19

The previous decade witnessed the dynamic progress that information systems (ISs) brought about in business performances. In this regard, an effective and efficient organization reflects heightened performance through the use of financial systems like the Accounting Information System (AIS) as the system automates the processes and improves efficiencies. In the current times, AIS has been the reason behind the optimum performance of businesses, with past studies evidencing its successful role dependent on critical success factors. Hence, the primary aim of this study is to evaluate AIS through the use of De Lone and Mc Lean's information sys-tem model (DM ISM) among Sudanese banks. The system focuses on critical factors including information quality, system quality, service quality, system usage and user satisfaction and their effects on the performance of banks in Sudan. Accordingly, this study made use of self-administered survey questionnaire to collect data from 103 AIS user, after which PLS-SEM was employed for data validation. The findings supported the significant effects of system and information quality on system usage but not services quality. Also, AIS use was found to significantly affect the performance of business. The study contributed to literature concerning IS in light of AIS benefits determinants, and it validated the proposed model among firms in Sudan. In effect, the study has both theoretical and practical significance, and it provided limitations, implications and future studies recommendations.

Comparing Knowledge Acquisition and Retention Between Mobile Learning and Traditional Learning in Teaching Respiratory Therapy Students: A Randomized Control Trial

PURPOSE

Mobile learning (m-learning) is one of the trends in health professions' education. It has a promising future in education, but it also presents various challenges and risks. This research seeks to highlight some of the greatest accomplishments, opportunities, and issues related to m-Learning in teaching and learning. We believe the findings help us maximize the positive effects of m-Learning while minimizing any potential drawbacks associated with the technological changes taking place in education. The study aimed to compare respiratory therapy students' knowledge acquisition and retention between using m-learning and traditional learning.

PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS

Randomized pre-test, post-test, control group design was used. All 3rd year (N = 46) respiratory therapy students in one governmental university in Saudi Arabia were randomly assigned to either intervention or control group. Both groups took the same content of arterial blood gas lecture for 2 hours. The intervention group took the lecture using m-learning; two mobile apps: (1) ABG Book, (2) Arterial Blood Gas (Lite). The traditional learning (lecture-based learning) was used for the control group. The same test was conducted before, immediately after, and two weeks after the lecture. The duration of the test was 30 minutes. The data were analyzed using independent t-test and repeated measured ANOVA using p < 0.05. IRB Approval was obtained.

RESULTS

Forty-five students participated. Although no statistically significant difference was found on knowledge acquisition and retention between the two types of learning (p = 0.305, p = 0.904, respectively), it was found among the three time-points within each group (p < 0.001).

CONCLUSION

Both m-learning and traditional learning are effective in increasing knowledge acquisition and retention. However, no one is better than the other. Further researches were needed with larger sample size through multi-institutional studies to validate the results of this study.

The Use of a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to Predict Patients' Usage of a Personal Health Record System: The Role of Security, Privacy, and Usability

Personal health records (PHR) systems are designed to ensure that individuals have access and control over their health information and to support them in being active participants rather than passive ones in their healthcare process. Yet, PHR systems have not yet been widely adopted or used by consumers despite their benefits. For these advantages to be realized, adoption of the system is necessary. In this study, we examined how self-determination of health management influences individuals' intention to implement a PHR system, i.e., their ability to actively manage their health. Using an extended technology acceptance model (TAM), the researchers developed and empirically tested a model explaining public adoption of PHRs. In total, 389 Saudi Arabian respondents were surveyed in a quantitative cross-sectional design. The hypotheses were analysed using structural equation modelling-partial least squares (SEM-PLS4). Results indicate that PHR system usage was influenced by three major factors: perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), and security towards intention to use. PHR PEOU and PHR intention to use were also found to be moderated by privacy, whereas usability positively moderated PHR PEOU and PHR intention to use and negatively moderated PHR PU and PHR intention to use. For the first time, this study examined the use of personal health records in Saudi Arabia, including the extension of the TAM model as well as development of a context-driven model that examines the relationship between privacy, security, usability, and the use of PHRs. Furthermore, this study fills a gap in the literature regarding the moderating effects of privacy influence on PEOU and intention to use. Further, the moderating effects of usability on the relationship between PEOU, PU, and intention to use. Study findings are expected to assist government agencies, health policymakers, and health organizations around the world, including Saudi Arabia, in understanding the adoption of personal health records.

The integrated social cognitive theory with the TAM model: The impact of M-learning in King Saud University art education

Technology in higher education now includes a substantial amount of mobile learning (M-learning). M-learning also enables students to use the internet and technology for research, teamwork, and idea sharing. Additionally, in order to use M-learning systems, both students and teachers must accept M-learning. However, not enough research has been done in Saudi Arabia to determine how satisfied students are with their real use of mobile learning for educational purposes. As a result, the current study intends to investigate students' behavioral intentions to utilize mobile learning, their happiness with the technology, as well as their impressions of how they actually use mobile learning systems. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a new model by integrating social cognition theory and the technology acceptance model to better understand the elements that influence the adoption of mobile learning in higher education (TAM). The majority of the information was gathered through a survey, with 412 university students' randomly assigned questionnaires. The data analysis tools utilized were SPSS and Smart-PLS3.3.3. The studies proposed research model could, according to the study's findings, account for 52.5% of the variation in how mobile learning systems were actually used. This information is crucial for understanding how social and educational technology factors affect the actual use of mobile learning systems. With only two hypotheses being rejected, this study created a new model that supported 16 of them. The findings indicated a beneficial relationship between 10 social and educational technology elements. The findings also indicated a favorable impact on students' behavioral intentions to use and student happiness, which favorably impacts the actual use of M-learning in higher education. In order to improve students' academic performance via mobile learning, social cognitive theory and the TAM model are combined as a consequence of the study's empirical results. Therefore, we encourage students to collaborate with their colleagues at higher education institutions and use M-learning in their classrooms.

Analysis of the extrinsic and intrinsic aspects of the technology acceptance model associated with the learning management system during the COVID-19 pandemic

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of extrinsic aspects of the technology acceptance model, namely, information quality, functionality, accessibility, user interface design, system quality, functionality, facilitating conditions and computer playfulness as well as intrinsic aspects, namely, perceived self-efficacy, enjoyment and learning goals. orientation on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use in the context of the learning management system (LMS) as a system to support employee learning and development. This study also analyzes the effect of perceived ease of use on perceived usefulness and analyzes the effect of these two variables on the intention to adopt a LMS. This study included 3,205 respondents who are employees of banking companies in Indonesia and who used the LMS for their learning and self-development needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Design/methodology/approach

This research is a quantitative study that uses online surveys to collect data and partial least squares statistical tools to analyze survey data.

Findings

The results showed that accessibility alone had no effect on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, while enjoyment had no effect on the intention to use LMS and perceived ease of use and functionality had no effect on the intention to use LMS.

Research limitations/implications

This research focuses on the concept of technology acceptance with extrinsic and intrinsic aspects. This research context involves employees working in the banking sector with the adoption of the LMS.

Practical implications

LMS in banking companies can be optimized by providing online training and reducing the operational costs of employee training. By using LMS, companies can offer online courses to employees and track progress in distance learning, become a learning choice and information dissemination during the pandemic and also support future business continuity.

Originality/value

This study focuses on testing the technology adoption model on LMSs in the banking sector by adding extrinsic aspects, namely, system quality, facilitating conditioning, computer playfulness and user interface design, and combining intrinsic aspects, namely, perceived self-efficacy, enjoyment and learning goal orientation.

Evaluating the D&M IS Success Model in the Context of Accounting Information System and Sustainable Decision Making

The Accounting Information System (AIS) is generally employed for the automation of operational processes and the enhancement of company efficiencies, but more recently, AIS developments have had a great effect on the process of sustainable decision-making among organizations. However, previous research on the AIS and its capabilities attributed its success to critical success factors. Therefore, in the current work, De Lone and Mc Lean’s Information System (D&M IS) Success Model is evaluated in terms of AIS in Jordanian organizations. The current study primarily aimed to determine the influence of system quality, service quality, information quality, system use and user satisfaction on AIS use, which is argued to eventually enhance the quality and sustainability of decision-making. The study employed a quantitative approach using a self-administered questionnaire for data collection involving 101 decision-makers who are familiar with AIS usage. Following the collection of data, it was validated using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)—PLS. Based on the obtained results, system quality and information quality significant affected system use, but service quality did not. In turn, AIS was found to have a significant effect on user satisfaction. Furthermore, system use and user satisfaction had positive effects on AIS, which eventually affected the sustainability of decision-making, representing the net AIS benefits. The study contributes to existing IS literature, particularly in the field of determining the factors that influence the AIS net benefits, with the proposed model validated in Jordanian organizations using AIS. The study can be used as a guide to shed light on the importance of AIS and it also provides implications, limitations and opportunities for future studies.
