Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetes Mellitus is a serious and expanding health problem, together with the issues of health- related quality of life (HRQoL). This further puts pressure on the government to allocate more funds for public healthcare. OBJECTIVES This study was devised to evaluate the health-related quality of life of people living with diabetes in Hail region of Saudi Arabia. METHODS This cross-sectional research was carried out at eight locations in the Hail region of Saudi Arabia between 21st March-20th May 2022 using the adapted version of the Euro QoL-5 dimension (EQ-5D-3L) questionnaire. A multistage random sample approach was used to choose the diabetes clinics, and data collectors approached the participants in the waiting areas to collect the information. The data were analyzed using logistic regression analysis, Mann-Whitney test, and Kruskal-Wallis tests in IBM SPSS statistics 21.0. RESULTS The mean HRQoL score was 0.71±0.21 with a visual analog score of 68.4±16.2. Despite having much higher levels of quality of life in terms of self-care (85.8%), regular activity (73.8%) and anxiety (71.8%), nearly one half of the people reported moderate pain or discomfort, and more than one third reported having moderate mobility issues. In general, the quality of life for women was poorer than for men. Individuals with diabetes who were unmarried, young, educated, financially secure, and taking only oral medication had much improved HRQoL. The Euro QoL of people with diabetes patients were significantly influenced by gender, marital status, age, education, employment and treatment modality (p-values < 0.05), whereas only treatment modality had a significant impact on the patients' visual analogue measures (p-values < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The HRQoL of people with diabetes in Hail region was moderate in general, with pain and mobility issues being particularly prevalent. Gender, marital status, age, education, employment and type of medication therapy are significant predictors of HRQoL of patients with diabetes. Hence, planning and programs to enhance the HRQoL of people with diabetes, especially women is recommended.

Abstract
Background and Aim Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) has in recent decades become a global pandemic, accounting for over 90% of DM cases. The study evaluated the health-related quality of life (HrQoL) and identified its determinants among type 2 DM patients at the University of Cape Coast Hospital. Methods We conducted our study at the University of Cape Coast Hospital from January to March 2022. The EQ-5D-5L questionnaire was administered to 68 type 2 DM patients. Data were then inputted into Microsoft Excel and analyzed accordingly using IBM SPSS statistical software version 26 and GraphPad Prism 8. Results The mean age of the participants was 60.71 ± 12.18 with 55.9% being females. The average systolic, diastolic blood pressure and fasting blood glucose (FBG) of participants were 140.99 ± 22.27, 85 ± 11.14 and 7.97 ± 2.66 respectively. With the EQ-5D-5L scale, participants reported severe to extreme problems mainly in pain/discomfort (19.1%) and mobility (8.8%) dimensions. Approximately 21% (14/68) of patients reported themselves as being in perfect health based on the EQ-5D index score with no significant difference between males and females (p ≥ 0.05). On a scale of 0 to 100, most (26.5%) of the participants rated their general health state at 80. Age was significantly associated with all five dimensions while patients with comorbidities had higher odds of experiencing pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression. Conclusion The study reveals that pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression are the most experienced problems among patients with type 2 DM. The HrQoL of type 2 DM patients was also found to be affected by age, comorbidities, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Therefore, identifying these factors and developing appropriate interventions is crucial for improving patient outcomes and enhancing treatment outcomes.

Abstract
Assessing the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of people with diabetes is important to evaluate treatment effectiveness and identify interventions that would be beneficial to the patients. This descriptive cross-sectional study aimed to assess the HRQoL of people with diabetes visiting 15 community pharmacies in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, and to identify its determinants. The English (Nigeria) version of the EQ-5D-5L was administered to 420 eligible patients between August and September 2021. Data were analyzed with SPSS (IBM version 25.0) and presented descriptively; differences in HRQoL scores were examined using inferential statistics. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Most participants (56.8%) were female; 193 (49.6%) were between the ages of 30 and 49. The median (interquartile range, IQR) for the EQ VAS and EQ-5D-5L index scores, respectively, were 80.0 (65.0-85.0) and 0.77 (0.62-0.90). Most participants reported problems with usual activities (52.7%), pain/discomfort (60.2%), and anxiety/depression (57.6%). The EQ VAS score and EQ-5D-5L utility index were significantly (p < 0.05) associated with respondents' age, marital status, work status, and personal monthly income. The HRQoL of participants was relatively high. Nevertheless, implementing strategies aimed at pain management and providing psychological support for people with diabetes in Nigeria may improve their HRQoL.

Abstract
Background Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a multidimensional concept encompassing the physical, functional, emotional, and social/family well-being of an individual. Recent reports suggest that Covid-19 may lead to poorer HRQoL of the patients infected both in the short and long term. The present study aimed to assess the health-related quality of life and their determinants among COVID-19 intensive care unit (ICU) survivors. Materials and Methods In the study, 107 COVID-19 (RTPCR positive) patients admitted to the (ICU) of a tertiary care centre from August 2021-January 2022 were taken from the hospital records. Line listing of all the patients was done, and the study population was selected using the lottery method under a simple random sampling method. The study population was contacted by telephone and requested their willingness to participate in the study. EQ-5D-5L was used to assess quality of life, which is a standard instrument to assess HRQoL (developed by the EuroQol group in 2011). The EQ-5D-5L essentially consists of the EQ-5D descriptive system and the EQ visual analogue scale (EQ-VAS). Data entry was done using Microsoft excel 2019 version and data analysis using MedCalc version 20.015. Results The mean EQ-5D-5L utility score was 0.51 ± 0.43. The mean EQ-VAS score was 68.97 ± 22.27. A significant association between co-morbidities and EQ-5D-5L utility score where those with co-morbidities had a lesser EQ-5D-5L score compared to those without co-morbidities. The mean duration of ICU stay in days was 12.29 ± 12.17. A significant negative correlation between the duration of ICU stay and EQ-5D-5L. (r = -0.26, P = 0.0006*). Conclusion COVID-19 patients with comorbidities had a significantly poor quality of life. These findings may help healthcare professionals and decision-makers to better understand the consequences of COVID-19 on the HRQoL.

Abstract
Purpose The aim of our study was to validate a German translation of the post-acute (long) COVID-19 quality of life (PAC-19QoL) instrument among German patients with long COVID-19 syndrome. Patients and methods The PAC-19QoL instrument was translated into the German language and administrated to patients with long COVID-19 syndrome. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used to analyze the internal consistency of the instrument. Construction validity was evaluated by using Pearson's correlation coefficient and Spearman's rank correlation. Scores of patients and controls were compared using the Mann-Whitney U-test. Results A total of 45 asymptomatic and 41 symptomatic participants were included. In total, 41 patients with long COVID-19 syndrome completed the PAC-19QoL and EQ-5D-5L questionnaires. PAC-19QoL domain scores were significantly different between symptomatic and asymptomatic participants. All items achieved a Cronbach's alpha >0.7. There was a significant correlation between all domains on the test (p < 0.001), with the highest correlation between total (r = 0.994) and domain 1 (r = 0.991). Spearman's rank correlation analysis confirmed that the instrument items correlated with the objective PAC-19QoL examination findings. Conclusion The German version of the instrument is valid and reliable and can be a suitable tool for research and daily clinical practice among patients with long COVID-19 syndrome.

Abstract
PURPOSE To estimate the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) according to glycemic status, and its relationship with sociodemographic and clinical factors in a population at risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS Cross-sectional study, using cluster sampling. Data were collected from 1135 participants over 30 years of age, at risk of developing T2D from the PREDICOL project. Participants' glycemic status was defined using an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Participants were divided into normoglycemic subjects (NGT), prediabetes and diabetics do not know they have diabetes (UT2D). HRQOL was assessed using the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire of the EuroQol group. Logistic regression and Tobit models were used to examine factors associated with EQ-5D scores for each glycemic group. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 55.6 ± 12.1 years, 76.4% were female, and one in four participants had prediabetes or unknown diabetes. Participants reported problems most frequently on the dimensions of Pain/Discomfort and Anxiety/Depression in the different glycemic groups. The mean EQ-5D score in NGT was 0.80 (95% CI 0.79-0.81), in prediabetes, 0.81 (95% CI 0.79-0.83), and in participants with UT2D of 0.79 (95% CI 0.76-0.82), respectively. Female sex, older age, city of residence, lower education, receiving treatment for hypertension, and marital status were significantly associated with lower levels of HRQOL in the Tobit regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS HRQOL of NGT, prediabetes, and UT2D participants was statistically similar. However, factors such as gender, age. and place of residence were found to be significant predictors of HRQOL for each glycemic group.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, the incidence of viral keratitis has been on the rise. OBJECTIVE This study explored the application effect of continuous care for patients with viral keratitis. METHODS A total of 148 patients with viral keratitis admitted to the ophthalmology department of the authors' hospital from January 2019 to December 2020 were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group via the random number table method, with 74 cases in each group. Continuous care was conducted following routine discharge guidance for patients in the observation group, while routine discharge guidance only was provided for the control group. The patients in both groups were continuously observed for one year. The medication compliance, return visit rate, recurrence rate, nursing satisfaction, and quality of life between the two groups were compared and analyzed after one year. RESULTS The medication compliance was higher in the observation than in the control group and the difference was statistically significant (P< 0.05). The rate of return visits at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year in the observation group were higher than those in the control group and the differences were statistically significant (P< 0.05). The difference in the recurrence rate between the two groups at 1 week was not statistically significant (P> 0.05), while the recurrence rate at 1, 3, and 6 months, and 1 year in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P< 0.05). The total score of the quality of life in the observation group was higher than in the control group and the difference was statistically significant (P< 0.05). CONCLUSION Continuous care had a good application effect on patients with viral keratitis, which could potentially effectively improve medication compliance and the rate of return visits, reduce recurrence rate, and improve patient satisfaction and their quality of life. Accordingly, the results of this study present high clinical value.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The disease burden of diabetes can have wide-ranging implications on patients' psychological well-being and health-related quality of life. Glycated haemoglobin targets are commonly used to guide patient management in diabetes to reduce the future risk of developing diabetes complications, but little is known of the psychological impact of glycated haemoglobin target-setting. This protocol describes a study to determine the feasibility of evaluating psychological outcomes when setting explicit glycated haemoglobin targets in people with diabetes. METHODS This single-centre randomised feasibility study will follow a mixed-methods approach across four sub-studies. In sub-study A, eligible adults (aged 18 and over) with type 1 or type 2 diabetes will complete baseline validated psychometric questionnaires evaluating health-related quality of life (EuroQoL-5D-5L), diabetes-related distress (Problem Areas In Diabetes), self-care (Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities), well-being (Well-Being Quetionnaire-12) and diabetes-related psychosocial self-efficacy (Diabetes Empowerment Scale-Long Form). Participants will be randomised to receive explicit glycated haemoglobin intervention targets 5mmol/mol above or below current glycated haemoglobin readings. Rates of eligibility, recruitment, retention and questionnaire response rate will be measured. Psychometric outcomes will be re-evaluated 3-months post-intervention. Sub-studies B and C will use qualitative semi-structured interviews to evaluate experiences, views and opinions of diabetes patients and healthcare professionals in relation to the acceptability of study processes, the use of glycated haemoglobin targets, the impact of diabetes on psychological well-being and, in sub-study D, barriers to participation in diabetes research. DISCUSSION This mixed-methods study aims to provide a novel insight into the psychological implications of glycated haemoglobin target-setting for people with diabetes in secondary care, alongside testing the feasibility of undertaking a larger project of this nature. Abstract
Introduction Recently, the patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) have been considered as the most important assessment tool for surgical outcome evaluation in arthroplasty. However, no study from the Indian subcontinent has evaluated the PROM in the total hip (THA) and knee (TKA) arthroplasties. Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study evaluated the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of 1244 North Indian patients following primary THA and TKA who had at least one-year follow-up. This study included 617 patients with 664 THA and 627 patients with 1152 TKA. The patients were asked to answer the EQ-5D-5L questionnaires and EQ-VAS in their own languages. The EQ-5D-5L values were used to derive level frequency scores (LFS) with validated Indian norms of EuroQoL. Results Ninety percent of THA and 82% of TKA patients rated excellent HRQoL using EQ-VAS. The regression analysis revealed age, gender, etiology and brand of prosthesis had a significant impact on EQ-5D-5L following THA. However, gender and simultaneous bilateral surgery were found to be important predictors of outcome in TKA. The mean value of LFS for THA was 0.95 ± 0.12 and TKA was 0.88 + 0.24 (p < 0.001). However, There was no difference in LFS between THA and TKA when only elderly patients (> 60 years) were considered (p = 0.168). Conclusion THA patients reported better HRQoL than TKA in the Indian subcontinent. One of the factors for a better outcome in hip arthroplasty was the relatively younger age of the patients. Patients above 60 years of age reported similar levels of statisfactior in both THA and TKA. Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to assess the health-related quality of life of patients with T2DM and hypertension attending public health facilities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from 1st through 30th August 2020 at the selected institutions. Health facilities were chosen purposively based on patient load. Participants were drawn after proportional to size allocation. A translated EQ-5D-3L, and EQ-VAS instrument was used to collect the data. Analysis was done using SPSS v.26.0. Both parametric and non-parametric models were applied in the analysis. Results Of the 409 participants included, the majority were in the age group of 46-60 (36.0%), females (56.0%), from hospitals (54.8%), jobless (25.4%), and married (63.3%). Over two-thirds of the patients reported no problems with self-care, usual activity, and depression/anxiety. All dimensions showed an increasing proportion of moderate to severe problems in the age group beyond 45. Facility type, comorbid condition and age showed a statistically significant score difference for QoL. The overall prevalence of any problem was 59.0%. Education level, visit to a health center, and marriage showed lower odds of affected HRQoL whereas, lower monthly income and presence of comorbidities were opposite. Conclusion HRQoL of patients in the study settings was suboptimal and below the general population. Attributes, such as education, facility type, marital status, income level, and comorbid status have a statistically significant association with HRQoL. Arrangement of a safe and quality health services is paramount, especially, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetes is associated with increased hospital complications and mortality following trauma. However, there is limited research on the longer-term recovery of trauma patients with diabetes. The aim of this study was to explore the association between type 2 diabetes (T2D) and in-hospital and 24-month outcomes in major trauma patients. METHODS In this cohort study using the Victorian State Trauma Registry, middle-aged and older adults (≥45 years) with major trauma were followed up at 24 months postinjury. Logistic regression (univariable and multivariable) analyses were used to determine the association between diabetes status and 24-month patient-reported outcomes. In-hospital outcomes were compared between groups using χ2 tests. RESULTS Of the 11,490 participants who survived to hospital discharge, 8,493 survived to 24 months postinjury and were followed up at that time point: 953 people (11%) with and 7540 (89%) without T2D. People with T2D had a higher in-hospital death rate (19%) compared with people without T2D (16%; p < 0.001). After adjusting for confounders, people with T2D had poorer outcomes 24 months postinjury than people without T2D, with respect to functional recovery (Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended) (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 0.58; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.48-0.69) and return to work/study (AOR, 0.51; 95% CI, 0.37-0.71]). People with T2D experienced higher odds of problems with mobility (AOR, 1.92; 95% CI, 1.60-2.30), self-care (AOR, 1.94; 95% CI, 1.64, 2.29), usual activities (AOR, 1.50; 95% CI, 1.26-1.79), pain and discomfort (AOR, 1.75; 95% CI, 1.49-2.07), anxiety and depression (AOR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.24, 1.70), and self-reported disability (AOR, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.28-1.79) than people without T2D. CONCLUSION Major trauma patients with T2D have a poorer prognosis than patients without T2D, both during their hospital admission and 24 months postinjury. Patients with T2D may need additional health care and support following trauma to reach their recovery potential. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Prognostic, level III.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to explore the association between diabetes mellitus and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of older people in Shanghai, China, especially regarding the differences in each aspect of the EQ-5D and how large the score gaps are between older people with and without diabetes. METHODS A total of 11,103 people of either sex older than 60 years were enrolled from 17 districts of Shanghai. The EQ-5D-3L was used to assess the HRQoL of older people. The Wilcoxon rank sum test and t-test were used to compare the difference in HRQoL between people with or without diabetes. After univariate regression, multiple linear regression and ordinal logistic regression were conducted to evaluate the influence of diabetes mellitus and other confounding variables on the EQ VAS scores and on the five dimensions of the EQ-5D. RESULTS Twelve percent of all participants had diabetes mellitus, and the proportion was almost the same between men and women. The EQ VAS scores of people with diabetes mellitus were approximately 3.70 points lower than those of people without diabetes (95% CI = -4.40, -2.99, p < 0.001) after adjusting for confounding variables. People with diabetes mellitus had increased problems with mobility (OR = 1.57, 95% CI = 1.33, 1.85), self-care (OR = 1.65, 95% CI = 1.35, 2.01), usual activities (OR = 1.78, 95% CI = 1.51, 2.11), pain/discomfort (OR = 1.42, 95% CI = 1.24, 1.64), and anxiety/depression (OR = 1.33, 95% CI = 1.07, 1.64). CONCLUSIONS This study showed that diabetes mellitus was associated with the HRQoL of older people and that older people with diabetes had poorer performance in every aspect of EQ-5D measurements.

Abstract
Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) commonly causes death and disability that can result in productivity loss and economic burden. The health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has been measured in patients suffering from TBI, both in clinical and socioeconomic perspectives. The study aimed to assess the HRQoL in patients following TBI using the European quality of life measure-5 domain-5 level (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire and develop models for predicting the EQ-5D-5L index score in patients with TBI. Method A cross-sectional study was performed with 193 TBI patients who had completed the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire. The clinical characteristics, Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score, treatment, and Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) were collected. The total data was divided into training data (80%) and testing data (20%); hence, the factors affecting the EQ-5D-5L index scores were used to develop the predictive model with linear and nonlinear regression. The performances of the predictive models were estimated with the adjusted coefficient of determination (R 2 ) and the root mean square error (RMSE). Results A good recovery was found at 96.4%, while 2.1% displayed an unfavorable outcome. Moreover, the mean EQ-5D-5L index scores were 0.91558 (standard deviation [SD] 1.09639). GCS score, pupillary light reflex, surgery, and GOS score significantly correlated with the HRQoL scores. The multiple linear regression model had a high adjusted R 2 of 0.6971 and a low RMSE of 0.06701, while the polynomial regression developed a nonlinear model that had the highest adjusted R 2 of 0.6843 and the lowest RMSE of 0.06748. Conclusions A strong positive correlation between the physician-based outcome as GOS and HRQoL was observed. Furthermore, both the linear and nonlinear regression models were acceptable approaches to predict the HRQoL of patients after TBI. There would be limitations for estimating the HRQoL in unconscious or intubated patients. The HRQoL obtained from the predictive models would be an alternative method to resolve this problem.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Type 2 diabetes mellitus affects an individual's quality of life (QoL); and there are multiple instruments that can be used to measure QoL. The purpose of this systematic review is to identify the existing instruments that have been used to measure QoL in people living with diabetes, and to enlist the major domains (such as physical and psychological components) available in the identified instruments. Additionally, we plan to determine the psychometric properties of the identified QoL instruments using COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) methodology. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocol guideline was followed to report this systematic review protocol. Searches will be conducted on MEDLINE (via PubMed, Web of Science), SCOPUS and CINAHL. Predetermined inclusion/exclusion criteria will be applied to the search results, to include studies with adult individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus, with and without complications, and exclude studies with type 1 diabetes or other clinical illness. Studies conducted outside India will be excluded. Five authors in pairs will independently screen the articles and extract the data that meets the inclusion criteria. The COSMIN criteria will be used to assess the risk of bias of included studies. Narrative synthesis will be performed to analyse the findings of the instruments. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical permission is not applicable, as this is a systematic review. We intend to disseminate the systematic review findings through a national or international conference and publish the findings in a peer-reviewed journal. Abstract
PURPOSE The study aim was to evaluate HRQOL and to explore the variables associated with poor HRQOL among patients with dyslipidemia in Jordan. METHODS The present study utilized the EQ-5D questionnaire which evaluates HRQOL in terms of mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. Responses to the five dimensions were presented using the value set, which ranges from 1 for full health to - 0.594 for severe problems in all five dimensions. Multiple linear regression analysis was implemented to identify the variables that best predicted the total EQ-5D score and hence HRQOL in the study population. RESULTS The mean age of the 228 participants was 60.23 (SD = 10.64). The mean of the total EQ-5D score was 0.675 (SD = 0.14). Regression analysis identified necessity for dyslipidemia medication (B = 0.18, P < 0.01) and patients with controlled lipid profile (B = 0.28, P < 0.01) were positively associated with HRQOL, while having concerns about dyslipidemia medications (B = - 0.16, P < 0.01), number of medication (B = - 0.13, P = 0.02), duration of dyslipidemia (B = - 0.22, P < 0.01), receiving high-intensity statin (B = - 0.18, P < 0.01) or statin in combination with fibrate (B = - 0.15, P < 0.01) were associated with lower HRQOL. CONCLUSION HRQOL has considerable scope for improvement in patients with dyslipidemia in Jordan. Improving dyslipidemia medications' beliefs and simplifying medication regimen by prescribing less medications, particularly for patients with longer disease duration and those on statin therapy, should be considered in future management programs aim at improving HRQOL in patients with dyslipidemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to measure the relationship between sleep quality and health-related quality of life (HRQOL), in Indian population with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS A cross-sectional study, included a total of 300 patients with T2DM. All participants were responding to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions Questionnaire (EQ-5D). A PSQI global score ≥5 was defined as poor sleep quality. EQ-5D visual analogue scale (VAS), determining the overall health status. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between PSQI and EQ-5D. All the study data were analysed using the SPSS software version 20.0. Values of p < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. RESULTS The mean age of included participants were 55.29. Majority of the participants (55.3%) were identified as "poor sleepers" and female (31.3%) contributing higher proportion. Poor sleepers had significantly lower the HRQoL (p < 0.001). After adjustment, poor sleep quality was significantly associated with a lower HRQoL; EQ-5D index (OR = 1.080, 95%, CI: 1.015-1.148, p < 0.05), and EQ-5D VAS (OR = 1.092, 95%, CI: 1.021-1.176, p < 0.01). Overall, the EQ-5D index and EQ-5D VAS were found to be an independent predictors of sleep quality. CONCLUSIONS Poor sleep quality is prevalent in Indian T2DM population, and it imparts negative impact on several dimensions of EQ-5D that characterising the daily activities performance. Therefore, further real-world studies are needed to determine the causal relationship between T2DM patients and measure of objective sleep and their impact on health.
