Determination of toxic elemental levels in whey milk of different cattle and human using an innovative digestion method: risk assessment for children < 6.0 months to 5 years. Abstract
In present study, the toxic elements, arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb), were determined in whey milk samples obtained from various cattle (cow, goat, buffalo, sheep, camel) and human subjects of different areas of Sindh, Pakistan, based on consuming drinking water (exposed area) and surface water (control/non-exposed area). The whey milk was separated from casein by lowering the pH, and heating in an ultrasonic bath at 60 °C for 5 min and centrifuged. The whey milk samples were treated with deep eutectic solvent, prepared from choline chloride-oxalic acid (ChCl-Ox) at different mole ratio. Effects of different parameters on digestion efficiency of whey milk samples, including time and temperature of electric hot plate, mole ratio, and volumes of deep eutectic solvent were examined. The total levels of all selected toxic elements were also detected in whole milk samples of all exposed and nonexposed cattle and human, after acid digestion method. The validity of the proposed method was established by a conventional acid digestion method of selected whey milk samples and spiked certified standards in replicate real whey milk samples. The resulted elements obtained after proposed and conventional heating system were determined by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry. The % of all three toxic elements found in whey milk samples were 24 to 50% of their total content in milk samples of different cattle and human. The As, Cd, and Pb contents in cattle and human milk consumed contaminated groundwater was significantly higher (2- to 3-fold) than those values observed for milk samples of cattle, who receive drinking water from fresh canal water (p < 0.01). Estimating the daily intake, hazard quotient and carcinogenic risk for <6 month to 5 years old children, based on the concentrations of toxic elements in milk samples of different cattle and human..

Abstract
In this work, the inhibition of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) - CRISPR associated protein (Cas) trans-cleavage by Pb2+-induced G-quadruplex has been firstly explored to detect Pb2+ in tea beverage and milk. In absence of Pb2+, the Na+-induced G-quadruplex can be cleaved by CRISPR-Cas12a. In contrast, Pb2+ can competitively combine with G-quadruplex, resulting in its conformational changes and resistance to trans-cleavage of CRISPR-Cas12a. Therefore, the fluorescence resonance energy transfer can happen. Pb2+ can be detected in a linear range from 100 nM to 5 µM with a lowest detection limit of 2.6 nM and a relative standard deviation of 4.32%. In summary, this work not only provides a new method for Pb2+ detection based on its induced G-quadruplex inhibition on CRISPR-Cas12a trans-cleavage, but also broadens the application of CRISPR-Cas system for heavy metal analysis in the field of food safety.

Abstract
During the last ten years, number of articles published on synthesis and applications of nano-particles (NPs) have been increased by a factor of 40. One of the most interesting applications of NPs is their using as high capacity, robust and highly selective coatings for stir bar sorption extraction (SBSE). Utilizing NPs greatly promoted applications of SBSE and has gained importance on green sample preparation. In this article, all available literature on nano-coatings as media for microextraction by stir bar is reviewed. This includes non-functionalized NPs (mostly, metallic/metallic oxide and graphene based), functionalized coatings, and decorated coatings (both mono- and multifunctional). Various applications, advantages and disadvantages of each nano-coated prepared stir bar are discussed in detail along with critical evaluation of currently available methods.

Abstract
Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy assisted by laser-induced fluorescence (LIBS-LIF) was applied to determine lead (Pb) in rhododendron leaves. Rhododendron leaves are essential types of herbal materials. Rapid detection of lead in rhododendron leaves is urgent for drug monitoring. In this paper, the powder method and solid-liquid-solid transformation (SLST) method were employed as sample preparation. The results showed that the signal of the Pb I 405.78 nm line was substantially enhanced. For samples A, B and C, the LoD values of 0.054 mg/kg, 0.059 mg/kg, 0.062 mg/kg were achieved with R2 values of 0.997, 0.996, 0.997 via the SLST approach, whose sensitivity and accuracy was slightly higher compared to the powder method. The RMSECV values of both methods were minimal, ranging from 0.538 to 2.117 mg/kg. Lead content detected by LIBS-LIF in the three samples was between 1.5 and 2.8 mg/kg. The results of lead were validated by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). This research provided us with new technology for the rapid and accurate determination of Pb element in rhododendron leaves.

Abstract
An innovative ultrasonic assisted microextraction method using a deep eutectic solvent for entrapping the organ metallic complexes was developed to pre-concentrate the trace quantities of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in lipsticks and eye shadows of different brands prior to flame atomic absorption spectrometry analysis. A deep eutectic solvent (DES) was used in this study, prepared by mixing metal salt (ZnCl2) and hydrogen bond donors such as (acetamide) in different ratio. The different branded cosmetic items, lipstick and eye shadows, obtained from local market and subjected to acid digestion prior to application of proposed ultrasonic assisted microextraction method based on deep eutectic solvent (UAµE-DES) with the aid of mechanical and ultrasound energies. Ammonium pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate was used as a ligand to made hydrophobic complexes of Cd and Pb, entrapped in DES in the presence of aprotic solvent. The seven variables, mixing ratio of ZnCl2 and Acetamide, DES volume, Ultrasound and Conventional shaking time, pH, tetrahydrofuran and complexing reagent volume were optimized by multivariate approach for the optimum recovery of Cd and Pb from real cosmetic items. The resulted data indicates that ultrasound energy assisted extraction time, volume of DES and pH were most significant variables. The precision and validity of developed procedure were checked by the spiked known certified standards in real samples. The resulted data indicated that the lipsticks have different glittering colors contains high contents of Pb and Cd, whereas dark colors of eye shadows contain high level of both elements.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Magnetic graphene oxide nanocomposite has been proposed as a promising and sustainable sorbent for the extraction and separation of target analytes from food matrices. Sample preparation based on nanocomposite presents several advantages, such as desired efficiency, reasonable selectivity and high surface-area-to-volume ratio. RESULTS A new graphene oxide/Fe3 O4 @polythionine (GO/Fe3 O4 @PTh) nanocomposite sorbent was introduced for magnetic dispersive solid-phase extraction and flame atomic absorption spectrometric detection of zinc(II) in water, flour, celery and egg. To fabricate the sorbent, an oxidative polymerization of thionine on the surface of magnetic GO was applied, while polythionine was simply employed as a surface modifier to improve extraction yield. The properties of the sorbent were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, vibrating sample magnetometry and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy. The calibration curve showed linearity in the range of 0.5-30 ng mL-1 . Limits of detection (S/N = 3) and quantification (S/N = 10) were 0.08 and 0.5 ng mL-1 , respectively. CONCLUSION The method was applied for trace-level determination of Zn(II) in water and food samples, and its validation was investigated by recovery experiments and analyzing certified reference material. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
In this study, a simple and rapid solid phase extraction/preconcentration procedure was developed for determination of Cd(II), Co(II), Cr(III), Cu(II), Fe(III), Mn(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II) trace metals by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). A new chelating resin, poly(N-cyclohexylacrylamide-co-divinylbenzene-co-2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid) (NCA-co-DVB-co-AMPS) (hereafter CDAP) was synthesized and characterized. The influences of the analytical parameters such as pH of the sample solution, type and concentration of eluent, flow rates of the sample and eluent, volume of the sample and eluent, amount of chelating resin, and interference of ions were examined. The limit of detection (LOD) of analytes were found (3s) to be in the range of 0.65-1.90μgL(-1). Preconcentration factor (PF) of 200 and the relative standard deviation (RSD) of ⩽2% were achieved (n=11). The developed method was applied for determination of analytes in some dairy samples and certified reference materials.

Abstract
In this paper, we report a simple and rapid solid phase extraction system for the separation/preconcentration and determination of Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Fe(III), Cr(III), Pb(II), and Zn(II) ions by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). This method is based upon the retention of metal ions on a column packed with poly[N-(3-methyl-1H-indole-1-yl)]-2-methacrylamide-co-2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulphonic acid-co divinylbenzene] (MMAD) resin as a solid-phase extraction (SPE) sorbent at pH 8. At the optimized conditions, the limits of detection (3 s/b) between 0.12 and 1.6 μg L(-1), preconcentration factor of 100, and the relative standard deviation of ⩽1.8% were achieved (n=10). The accuracy of the method was verified by analyzing certified reference materials (CRMs) and performing recovery experiments. The developed method was successfully applied to the various natural water, meat products and baby food samples. The recoveries of analyte ions were found in added real samples and CRMs from 95% to 102%.

Abstract
In this study, the resting eggs of aquatic creatures living in freshwater (Daphnia, Cladocera, Crustacean) ecosystems were used as a novel biosorbent extractant for synchronous preconcentration of trace Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Mn(II), and Ni(II) previous to measurement by flame atomic absorpiton spectrometry (FAAS). Using column procedures, optimization studies were conducted to realize the effective adsorption of the analyte ions such as the solution pH, amount of the biosorbent, volume of the sample, interfering ions, etc. A high preconcentration factor of 67 and low relative standard deflection of ≤4.1% (n=8) were obtained. The invention constrains based on the 3 s/b criterion were 2.4 for Cd(II), 41.4 for Co(II), 4.2 for Cu(II), 3.0 for Mn(II), and 9.6 μg L(-1) for Ni(II). The accuracy of the method was verified by analysis of a certified standard reference material. The used procedure was applied to the definition of the analytes in diverse environmental samples with convincing results. Consequently, the resting eggs of Daphnia can be used as a biosorbent for preconcentration and biosorption studies.
