Abstract
Over the past years, the poultry industry has been assigned to greater production performance but has become highly sensitive to environmental changes. The average world temperature has recently risen and is predicted to continue rising. In open-sided houses, poultry species confront high outside temperatures, which cause heat stress (HS) problems. Cellular responses are vital in poultry, as they may lead to identifying confirmed HS biomarkers. Heat shock proteins (HSP) are highly preserved protein families that play a significant role in cell function and cytoprotection against various stressors, including HS. The optimal response in which the cell survives the HS elevates HSP levels that prevent cellular proteins from damage caused by HS. The HSP have chaperonic action to ensure that stress-denatured proteins are folded, unfolded, and refolded. The HSP70 and HSP90 are the primary HSP in poultry with a defensive function during HS. HSP70 was the optimal biological marker for assessing HS among the HSP studied. The current review attempts to ascertain the value of HSP as a heat stress defense mechanism in poultry.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Apigenin and gallic acid are natural compounds that are useful as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer agents, especially when used together in combination. Therefore, the development and validation of a simultaneous method of analysis for both compounds in pure form and when encapsulated in an advanced delivery system such as liposomes would be useful. METHODS Analysis was performed using C18 column under isocratic conditions. The mobile phase was acetonitrile: water containing 0.2% orthophosphoric acid at a ratio of 67:33, flow rate 1 ml/min, and detection wavelength 334 nm for apigenin and 271 nm for gallic acid. RESULTS The assay method was linear at the concentration range (5-600 µg/mL) with R2 of 1 for both drugs. The method was also shown to be precise and robust with RSD less than 2% with LOD (0.12, 0.1 µg/mL) and LOQ (4.14, 3.58 µg/mL) for apigenin and gallic acid respectively. The method was also applicable for the determination of the entrapment efficiency of both drugs when co-loaded in a nanoliposomal formulation. CONCLUSION The described HPLC method was shown to be suitable, sensitive, and reproducible for the simultaneous identification and quantification of apigenin and gallic acid. The analytical results were accurate and precise, with good recovery, low limit of detection, and the chromatographic assay was accomplished in less than 3 min, suggesting the suitability of the method for routine analysis of both drugs in pharmaceutical formulations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The potential neuroprotective effects of regular physical activity on brain structure are unclear, despite links between activity and reduced dementia risk. OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationships between regular moderate to vigorous physical activity and quantified brain volumes on magnetic resonance neuroimaging. METHODS A total of 10,125 healthy participants underwent whole-body MRI scans, with brain sequences including isotropic MP-RAGE. Three deep learning models analyzed axial, sagittal, and coronal views from the scans. Moderate to vigorous physical activity, defined by activities increasing respiration and pulse rate for at least 10 continuous minutes, was modeled with brain volumes via partial correlations. Analyses adjusted for age, sex, and total intracranial volume, and a 5% Benjamini-Hochberg False Discovery Rate addressed multiple comparisons. RESULTS Participant average age was 52.98±13.04 years (range 18-97) and 52.3% were biologically male. Of these, 7,606 (75.1%) reported engaging in moderate or vigorous physical activity approximately 4.05±3.43 days per week. Those with vigorous activity were slightly younger (p < 0.00001), and fewer women compared to men engaged in such activities (p = 3.76e-15). Adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, and multiple comparisons, increased days of moderate to vigorous activity correlated with larger normalized brain volumes in multiple regions including: total gray matter (Partial R = 0.05, p = 1.22e-7), white matter (Partial R = 0.06, p = 9.34e-11), hippocampus (Partial R = 0.05, p = 5.96e-7), and frontal, parietal, and occipital lobes (Partial R = 0.04, p≤1.06e-5). CONCLUSIONS Exercise-related physical activity is associated with increased brain volumes, indicating potential neuroprotective effects.

Abstract
The impact of microbial muramidase (MMUR) addition to broiler chicken rations was evaluated through growth parameters, liver histoarchitecture, antioxidant status, biochemical analysis, and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines for 35 days. Four hundred three-day-old chicks (97.68 ± 0.59 g) were distributed to four distinct groups with ten duplicates each (100 chicks/group) consisting of: group 1 (G1): a basal diet without MMUR (control group); G2: a basal diet + 200 mg MMUR kg-1 G3: a basal diet + 400 mg MMUR kg-1; and G4: a basal diet + 600 mg MMUR kg-1. The results showed that the final body weight and total weight gain were increased (p = 0.015) in birds fed with diets supplemented with MMUR at 600 mg kg-1. The feed conversion ratio (FCR) was improved in all treatment groups compared with the control group. Birds fed with a diet supplemented with 600 mg MMUR kg-1 showed the highest body weight gain and improved FCR. The values of thyroxin hormones and growth hormones were increased in all MMUR-supplemented groups. Dietary MMUR increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes (total antioxidant activity, catalase, and superoxide dismutase) and decreased the activity of malondialdehyde (p < 0.05). In addition, it increased the values of interleukin 1 beta and interferon-gamma compared with the control group. Furthermore, dietary MMUR increased the expression of transforming growth factor-beta immunostaining in the liver and spleen tissues. Our results show that supplementing broilers' diets with 600 mg MMUR kg-1 could enhance the chicken growth rate and improve their antioxidant, inflammatory, and anti-inflammatory responses.

Abstract
Abdominal fat is increasingly linked to brain health. A total of 10,001 healthy participants were scanned on 1.5T MRI with a short whole-body MR imaging protocol. Deep learning with FastSurfer segmented 96 brain regions. Separate models segmented visceral and subcutaneous abdominal fat. Regression analyses of abdominal fat types and normalized brain volumes were evaluated, controlling for age and sex. Logistic regression models determined the risk of brain total gray and white matter volume loss from the highest quartile of visceral fat and lowest quartile of these brain volumes. This cohort had an average age of 52.9 ± 13.1 years with 52.8% men and 47.2% women. Segmented visceral abdominal fat predicted lower volumes in multiple regions including: total gray matter volume (r = -.44, p<.001), total white matter volume (r =-.41, p<.001), hippocampus (r = -.39, p< .001), frontal cortex (r = -.42, p<.001), temporal lobes (r = -.44, p<.001), parietal lobes (r = -.39, p<.001), occipital lobes (r =-.37, p<.001). Women showed lower brain volumes than men related to increased visceral fat. Visceral fat predicted increased risk for lower total gray matter (age 20-39: OR = 5.9; age 40-59, OR = 5.4; 60-80, OR = 5.1) and low white matter volume: (age 20-39: OR = 3.78; age 40-59, OR = 4.4; 60-80, OR = 5.1). Higher subcutaneous fat is related to brain volume loss. Elevated visceral and subcutaneous fat predicted lower brain volumes and may represent novel modifiable factors in determining brain health.

Abstract
Individuals with lower-limb amputation (LLA) often exhibit atypical gait patterns and asymmetries. These patterns can be corrected using biofeedback (BFB). Real-time BFB strategies have demonstrated to be effective to various degrees in BFB systems. However, no studies have evaluated the use of corrective vibrotactile BFB strategies to improve temporal gait symmetry of LLA. The aim of this study was to evaluate a wearable vibrotactile BFB system to improve stance time symmetry ratio (STSR) of LLA, and compare two corrective BFB strategies that activate either one or two vibrating motors at two different frequency and amplitude levels, based on a pre-set STSR target. Gait patterns of five unilateral LLA were assessed with and without BFB. Spatiotemporal and kinematic gait parameters were measured and assessed using a wearable motion capture system. Usability and workload were assessed using the System Usability Scale and NASA Task Load Index questionnaires, respectively. Results showed that participants significantly (p<0.001) improved STSR with BFB; however, this coincided with a reduction in gait speed and cadence compared to walking without feedback. Knee and hip flexion angles improved and changes in other parameters were variable. Immediate post-test retention effects were observed, suggesting that gait changes due to BFB were preserved for at least a short-time after feedback was withdrawn. System usability was found to be acceptable while using BFB. The outcomes of this study provide new insights into the development and implementation of clinically practical and viable BFB systems. Future work should focus on assessing the long-term use and retention effects of BFB outside controlled-laboratory conditions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was evaluating the biaxial strength of bi-layered PEEK restorations before and after aging using different veneering materials in different thickness ratios. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ninety specimens of thickness 1.5 mm were divided into three groups according to their veneering material. Group (CAD LD): BioHPP discs veneered with CAD milled lithium disilicate (n=30), group (CAD C): BioHPP discs veneered with CAD milled composite (n=30), and group (LC): BioHPP discs veneered with conventionally layered composite (n=30). Each group was subdivided into 3 subgroups (n=10) according to the different thickness ratios between the core and the veneering material (TC:TV). Subgroup 1: TC:TV=1:0.5, subgroup 2: TC:TV=0.7:0.8, and subgroup 3: TC:TV=0.5:1. Half of the specimens of each subgroup were subjected to thermocycling, and the bi-axial flexural strength of all specimens was tested before and after aging. Three-way ANOVA followed by Bonferroni's post hoc test were used for data analysis. The significance level was set at P ≤ 0.05. RESULTS Material, thickness ratio, and aging all had a significant effect on biaxial flexural strength. (LC) group had the highest biaxial flexural strength. TC:TV=0.5:1 showed the lowest biaxial flexural strength. All groups showed significant decrease in biaxial flexural strength after aging. CONCLUSIONS Veneering material for PEEK together with the thickness ratio between the core and veneering material greatly affect the flexural strength of bi-layered restorations. Thermocycling negatively impacts the flexural strength of PEEK bi-layered restorations. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE According to the results of that study, PEEK cores are best veneered with conventionally layered composite with core to veneering thickness ratio being 1:0.5.

Abstract
Abstract
The worldwide outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic compelled scientists to develop new, highly effective therapeutic approaches to fight it. Multitarget drugs have been proven to be effective in managing complex disorders. But designing multitarget drugs is a great challenge. In this study, to prevent lack of efficacy due to viral mutation escape, a multi-target agent against the COVID-19 virus was discovered. As crucial targets, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), COVID-19 main protease (Mpro), and SARS-CoV-2 Nsp15 were selected. A pharmacophore model was developed using the native ligands of the chosen targets. This model was used to screen the ZINC Drug Database for commercially available compounds having similar features to the experimentally tested drugs. Pharmacophore-based virtual screening yielded 1331 hits, which were further docked into the binding sites of selected proteins using PyRx AutoDock Vina. Evaluation of docking results revealed that glisoxepide (Zn 00537804) has the highest binding scores for the three target proteins. It showed binding free energies of -6.8, -6.2, and -7.8 kcal/mol towards SARS-CoV-2 Mpro, Nsp15, and RdRp, respectively. According to an in silicoADME study, glisoxepide follows Lipinski's rule. The results of a molecular dynamics simulation study and subsequent investigations showed that glisoxepide had good dynamics and stability within the active sites of selected targets. The promise of glisoxepide as a potential treatment for SARS-CoV-2 still needs to be further evaluated through experimental research.

Abstract
The study aimed to explore how broiler chickens' blood biochemistry, breast muscles' fatty acid profile, growth, intestinal morphology, and immune status would be influenced by adding microbial muramidase (MUR) to the diet. Four hundred 3-day-old male broiler chickens were allocated to a completely randomized design consisting of four nutritional treatments (n = 100 per treatment, 10 chicks/replicate), each containing MUR at levels of 0 (control group), 200, 400, and 600 mg Kg-1 diet, with enzyme activity 0, 12,000, 24,000, and 36,000 LSU(F)/kg diet, respectively. The 35-day experiment was completed. The findings showed that adding MUR to broiler meals in amounts of 200, 400, or 600 mg/kg had no impact on growth performance (p > 0.05) during the periods of 4-10, 11-23, and 24-35 days of age. MUR supplementation quadratically impacted the feed conversion ratio of broiler chicks at 11 and 23 days of age (p = 0.02). MUR addition to the diet significantly and level-dependently enhanced the percentage of n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in breast muscles (p ≤ 0.01), with no alterations to the sensory characteristics of the breast muscles. Dietary MUR increased most of the morphometric dimensions of the small intestine, with the best results recorded at the 200 and 400 mg Kg-1 levels. MUR supplementation at 200, 400, and 600 mg kg-1 linearly lowered the total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (p < 0.01). Still, it significantly increased the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol contents compared with the unsupplemented group. Compared to controls, there was a substantial rise in the blood concentration of total protein, albumin, globulin, IL10, complement 3, and lysozyme activity as MUR levels increased (p < 0.01). Moreover, MUR addition significantly increased the immunoexpression of lymphocyte subpopulation biomarkers. We could conclude that MUR can be added to broiler chicken diets up to 600 mg kg -1 to improve broiler chickens' fatty acid profile in breast muscles, immunity, and blood biochemistry. MUR addition had no positive influence on the bird's growth.

Abstract
This investigation explored the impact of dietary frankincense resin oil (FO) on growth performance parameters, intestinal histomorphology, fatty acid composition of the breast muscle, and the immune status of broilers. We allotted 400, three-day-old, male chicks (Ross 308 broiler) into four treatment groups (ten replicates/group; ten chicks/replicate). They were fed a basal diet with different concentrations of FO (0, 200, 400, and 600 mg kg-1). FO supplementation increased the overall body weight (BW) and body weight gain (BWG) by different amounts, linearly improving the feed conversion ratio with the in-supplementation level. Total feed intake (TFI) was not affected. Growth hormones and total serum protein levels also linearly increased with the FO level, while albumin was elevated in the FO600 group. Moreover, total globulins increased linearly in FO400 and FO600 treatment groups. Thyroxin hormone (T3 and T4) levels increased in all FO treatment groups without affecting glucose and leptin serum values. Different concentrations of FO supplementation in the diet increased the activities of Complement 3, lysozyme, and interleukin 10 levels in the serum. Dietary FO in broilers increased the total percentage of n-3 and n-6 fatty acids. It also increased the ratio of n-3 to n-6 linearly and quadratically. Additionally, FO supplementation led to the upregulation of immune clusters of differentiation 3 and 20 (CD3 and CD20) in the spleen, along with improving most of the morphometric measures of the small intestine. In conclusion, FO up to 600 mg kg-1 as a feed additive in broiler chicken production is valuable for promoting their growth, intestinal histomorphology, and immune status along with enriching breast muscle with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA).

Abstract
This experiment evaluated the impact of the dietary addition of 1,3-β-glucans (GLU) on broiler chickens’ growth, intestinal histology, blood biochemical parameters, and immunity. Two hundred three-day-old male broilers (Ross 308) (97.93 ± 0.19 g/chick) were randomly assigned into four treatments with five replicates, each containing ten birds, in a complete randomized design. The four treatments were formulated with 0, 50, 100, and 150 mg 1,3-β-glucans kg−1 in broiler chicken diets. During the study, no significant impacts (p > 0.05) were observed in weight gain and feed conversion ratio (FCR) between treatment groups. Based on the results of total body weight gain and FCR, the optimal level of 1,3-β-glucan is 120 mg Kg−1. The intestinal histomorphology was improved by GLU supplementation, as indicated by increased villi height and villi height to crypt depth ratio (p < 0.01). All levels of supplemental β-1,3 glucan decreased the serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride levels, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (p < 0.05). The serum levels of growth hormones (GH), triiodothyronine (T3), and thyroxine (T4) were increased in GLU-supplemented groups (p < 0.05). The serum immune indices (lysozyme activity, interleukin 10 (IL10), complement 3 (C3), and total protein levels) were increased in the GLU-supplemented groups (p < 0.05). Dietary GLU up-regulated the immunoexpression of CD3 (T-cell marker) and CD20 (B-cell marker) in the spleen of birds (p < 0.01). It can be concluded that 1,3-β-glucan can be added to broiler chicken diets for improving the development and integrity of the intestine and enhancing the bird’s immune status. The optimal level for 1,3-β-glucan dietary supplementation was 120 mg Kg−1. Dietary 1,3-β-glucan has a hypolipidemic effect and improves the hormonal profile of birds without affecting their growth rate.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the impact of dietary addition of lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia L.) (LEO) on the growth performance, tissue histoarchitecture, and fatty acid profile in breast muscles, as well as blood biochemistry and immune expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines of broiler chickens. A total of 200 three-day-old broiler chickens (average body weight 101.3 ± 0.24 g) were assigned to a completely randomized design consisting of four dietary treatments (n = 50 per treatment, each replicate consisting of 10 birds) that included lavender essential oil at concentrations of 0 (control group), 200, 400, and 600 mg Kg−1 diet. The experiment lasted for 35 days. The results revealed that supplementation of lavender essential oil at 200, 400, or 600 mg/kg in broiler diets had no effect (p > 0.05) on the growth performance throughout the experimental periods (3−10, 11−23, and 24−35 days of age). According to the broken line regression model, the optimal level for dietary LEO addition was the 460 mg kg−1 diet based on the total body weight gain and feed conversion ratio results. The diets supplemented with lavender essential oil had no effect (p > 0.05) on the percentages of carcass yield or internal organs. Dietary addition of LEO significantly increased the percentages of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids PUFA (n-3), omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-6), and the n-3/n-6 ratio (p < 0.05) in the breast muscles of chickens in a level-dependent manner. The blood concentration of alanine aminotransferase was significantly increased in lavender essential oil at 600 mg kg−1 compared with other treatments. The dietary addition of LEO at 200, 400, and 600 mg kg−1 significantly reduced the malondialdehyde level. Still, they significantly increased the serum enzyme activities of total antioxidant capacity, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and the pro-inflammatory cytokine (interleukine-1 beta and interferon γ) compared with the unsupplemented group. The LEO-supplemented groups showed normal liver histomorphology as in the control group. However, the immunoexpression of the pro-inflammatory cytokine transforming growth factor β was significantly increased by increasing the level of LEO. It can be concluded that lavender essential oil can be included in broiler chicken diets up to 460 mg kg −1 with no positive effect on the bird’s growth. It can improve the antioxidant capacity and enrich the breast muscles with PUFA. An increased level of supplementation (600 mg kg−1) increased the inflammatory responses in broiler chickens.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Barrett’s esophagus is a known complication of long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease, and it is a potential risk factor of developing esophageal adenocarcinoma.
CASE SUMMARY Here, we present a case of a 47-year-old male patient referred to the gastroenterology clinic for upper endoscopy because he has a long-standing history of heartburn and vomiting after meals. On examination, he had characteristic findings of self-induced vomiting as abrasions and callosities on the dorsum of the right hand and dental erosions. A detailed history revealed that he had 17 years of binge eating with self-induced vomiting. His upper endoscopy showed gastroesophageal reflux grade D with salmon-red mucosal projections, and the biopsy revealed intestinal mucosal metaplasia.
CONCLUSION This case emphasized the importance of considering upper endoscopy screening for Barrett’s esophagus in patients with eating disorders, especially those with self-induced vomiting, as in bulimia nervosa.

Abstract
Abstract
Several semisynthetic analogs of camptothecin (CPT) are used clinically for the treatment of various types of cancers, including colorectal (CRC) cancer, despite their severe, potentially life-threatening toxicities. Studies defined key mutations in the UDP-glycosyltransferase 1 polypeptide A1 (UGT1A1) gene in CRC which play a role in the toxicity and resistance of a broad class of anti-cancer drugs that target DNA topoisomerases. UGT-1A1 is responsible for the glucuronidation and detoxification of the active/toxic metabolite of the topoisomerase I poison, CPT and its analogues, SN-38. Herein, we investigated the potential chemomodulatory effects of a UGT1A1-gene inducer, phenytoin, to the anticancer properties of CPT. The cytotoxic effects of CPT, phenytoin and their combination were evaluated against various colorectal cancer cell lines (SW620, HT29 and HCT116) using sulforhodamine-B assay under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. In HT29, CPT alone and after combination treatment had IC50’s of 0.1235 µM and 0.0269 µM, respectively, under normoxic conditions; and 0.1352 µM and 0.0476 µM, respectively, under hypoxic conditions. In SW620, CPT alone and after combination treatment had IC50’s of 1.9861 µM and 0.0087 µM, respectively, under normoxic conditions; and 1.9549 µM and 0.0024 µM, respectively, under hypoxic conditions. In HCT116, CPT alone and after combination treatment had IC50’s of 0.163 µM and 0.0157 µM, respectively, under normoxic conditions; and 0.1013 µM and 0.0766 µM, respectively, under hypoxic conditions. Flow cytometric analysis after annexin-V/FITC staining showed that the combination treatment significantly induced total apoptosis in all cell lines under investigation. In both HT29 and SW620, the combination treatment significantly suppressed the autophagy compared to CPT treatment alone using acridine orange staining coupled with flowcytometry. Cell cycle analysis using DNA content flowcytometry after PI staining showed significant S-phase arrest in the combination treatment when compared to the control across all cell lines under investigation. This indicates that sub-molecular mechanisms of phenytoin induced chemomodulatory effect to CPT anticancer properties is oxygen tension dependent. Further investigation for the intratumoral metabolism of CPT under hypoxic as well as normoxic conditions and particularly those attributed to UGT-1A1 is currently undergoing.

Abstract
This study assessed the impact of the dietary inclusion of L-ascorbic acid and organic zinc (Availa-Zn) on heat-stressed Japanese quails. Growth performance, antioxidant status, immune status, heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), and some blood biochemical parameters were assessed. One-day-old, unsexed Japanese quail chicks (n = 240) were randomly allocated into 4 dietary treatments (6 replicates per treatment; 10 birds per replicate). Birds were fed a basal corn-soybean meal diet (control treatment) with different supplemental levels of L-ascorbic acid and/or Availa-Zn (200 mg L-ascorbic acid/kg diet, 62 mg Availa-Zn/kg diet, and 200 mg L-ascorbic acid + 62 mg Availa-Zn/kg diet) from July to August 2020 for 35 days. The average minimum and maximum ambient temperatures varied from 85.4 to 98.8 °F, and the relative humidity was between 69 and 74%. Supplemented L-ascorbic acid and Availa-Zn, either as separate supplements or as combined supplements, increased bird growth performance, blood hemoglobin, thyroid hormones, total protein, globulin, total antioxidant capacity, HSP70, catalase, superoxide dismutase enzyme activity, and immunoglobulin A and G (P < 0.05), while heterophil/lymphocytes decreased (P < 0.01) during the entire rearing period (1-35 days). Most of the assessed parameters showed stronger responses when L-ascorbic acid and Availa-Zn were added together, which may suggest a synergistic effect. In conclusion, the combined supplementation of L-ascorbic acid and Availa-Zn at 200 and 62 mg/kg, respectively, could be considered an efficient dietary supplement to enhance Japanese quail growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immune status, and general health under heat stress conditions.

Abstract
This study investigated the dietary effect of Spirulina platensis phycocyanin (SPC) on growth performance (body weight (BW), body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), feed conversion ratio (FCR)) at starter, grower, and finisher stages, intestinal histomorphology, serum biochemical parameters, inflammatory and antioxidant indices, and proinflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α and caspase-3) immune expression in broiler chickens. In total, 250 one-day-old chicks (Ross 308 broiler) were randomly allotted to five experimental groups (5 replicates/group, 10 chicks/replicate) and fed basal diets supplemented with five levels of SPC (0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 g kg–1 diet) for 35 days. Compared with SPC0 treatment, different SPC levels increased the overall BW and BWG without affecting the total feed consumption. However, the FCR decreased linearly with an increase in supplementation level. The serum levels of total proteins, albumin, globulins, and growth hormone increased linearly by increasing levels of SPC supplementation. Further, SPC supplementation increased the thyroxin hormones without affecting serum glucose and leptin levels. Serum total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) values decreased in broilers fed SPC0.250 and SPC1 diets. Triglycerides (TG) decreased in SPC0.25-, SPC0.75-, and SPC1-treated groups. Though antioxidant enzyme activities (total antioxidant capacity, catalase, and superoxide dismutase) increased linearly and quadratically, malondialdehyde (MDA) decreased linearly by increasing the SPC level. There was no effect on serum proinflammatory cytokines IL1β levels. Immunolabelling index of caspase-3 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were downregulated by SPC supplementation. The intestinal histomorphology is represented by increased villus height, the villus height to crypt depth ratio, and numbers of goblet cells in different sections of the small intestine. In conclusion, SPC supplementation is beneficial in broiler chicken diets due to its growth-promoting, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Abstract
The potential effects of anthocyanin-rich roselle, Hibiscus sabdariffa L. extract (ARRE) on the growth, carcass traits, intestinal histomorphology, breast muscle composition, blood biochemical parameters, antioxidant activity, and immune status of broiler chickens were evaluated. In the present study, Hibiscus acidified ethanolic extract was reported to have a total anthocyanin content of about 359.3 mg cyanidin 3-glucoside/100 g DW, total polyphenol concentration (TPC) of about 598 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/100 g DW, and total flavonoids (TFs) of about 100 mg quercetin equivalent (QE)/100 g DW. Two-hundred-fifty one-day-old chicks (Ross 308 broiler) (87.85 gm ± 0.32) were randomly allotted to five experimental groups and fed on basal diets supplemented with five levels of ARRE: 0, 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg Kg−1 for 35 days. Dietary ARRE addition did not improve the birds’ growth and carcass traits. Supplemental ARRE increased the n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (ω-3) percentage in the breast muscle. Dietary ARRE increased the villous height, and the ARRE100 group raised the villus height to crypt depth ratio. Dietary ARRE increased the immunoexpression of immunoglobulin G (IgG) in the spleen. The serum thyroxine hormone (T4) level was higher in the ARRE200 group. The serum growth hormone level was increased by ARRE addition in a level-dependent manner. According to the broken-line regression analysis, the optimum inclusion level of ARRE was 280 mg Kg−1. All levels of supplemental ARRE decreased the serum triglyceride level. The serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was increased in the ARRE100-ARRE400 groups, the serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) level was increased in the ARRE200 group, and the serum malondialdehyde (MDA) level was decreased by increasing the ARRE level. Supplemental ARRE significantly increased the serum levels of lysozymes and IL10. The serum complement 3 (C3) level was increased in ARRE200 and ARRE400 groups. It can be concluded that dietary ARRE addition had many beneficial effects represented by the improvements in the bird’s metabolic functions, blood biochemistry, intestinal morphology, antioxidant activity, immune status, and higher ω-3 content in the breast muscles. However, it had no improving effect on the birds’ growth.

Abstract
Tetrahydroquinoline (THQ) is an important structure for synthesizing multiple biologically active derivatives. Thus, we developed new quinoline derivatives and investigated them as anticancer agents. First, infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and other techniques were used to confirm the structure of synthesized compounds. Then, they were assessed in vitro against three human cancer cell lines. Consequently, four compounds, 10, 13, 15, and 16, were identified as promising anticancer agents with pyrazolo quinoline derivative (15) exhibiting the highest potential IC50 and a strong apoptotic effect on three cell lines.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Exposure of breeder hens to hyperthermia causes disturbances in the breeder's eggs due to insufficient nutrient deposition from heat-stressed hen into the egg. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to test the hypothesis that the adverse effects of heat stress on hatchability, embryonic growth and hatchling health status could be ameliorated by in ovo injection of certain vitamins. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 270 fertile eggs from Fayoumi breeders (45 weeks) were randomly assigned to 6 groups (45 eggs/group). During the egg collection period in the summer season, birds were maintained at 9-13°C above the standard thermo-neutral temperature. The experimental groups were: negative control (eggs not injected either with vitamins or Sterile Deionized Water (SDW)), positive control (eggs injected with 0.1 mL of SDW/egg) and four other treatments in which vitamins A, E, D3 and folic acid were injected (1 mg of each vitamin dissolved in 0.1 mL of SDW/egg). The eggs were incubated at 37.7°C and 65% relative humidity in an automatic incubator. RESULTS The residual yolk, embryo length and weight and hatchability% were improved (p<0.01) in all vitamins in ovo injected groups compared with both controls. Hatchling weight and the assessed health status indices were increased (p<0.01) in all vitamins in ovo injected groups compared with both controls. CONCLUSION It is concluded that direct injection of vitamins into eggs laid by heat-stressed breeders is an effective way of reducing the disturbance in eggs resulting from inadequate nutrient deposition from hen to egg.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effects of safflower oil and vitamin C (Vit. C) inclusion in broiler chicken diets on the growth performance, apparent ileal digestibility coefficient "AID%" of amino acids, intestinal histology, behavior, carcass traits, fatty acid composition of the breast muscle, antioxidant and immune status for a 35-day feeding period were evaluated. A total of 300 three-day-old Ross chicks (58.25 g ± 0.19) were randomly allotted in a 2 × 3 factorial design consisting of two levels of vitamin C (0 and 400 mg/kg diet) and three levels of safflower oil (0, 5, and 10 g/kg diet). RESULTS An increase in the final body weight, total body weight gain, total feed intake, and the relative growth rate (P < 0.05) were reported by safflower oil and vitamin C inclusion. Dietary supplementation of safflower oil and vitamin C had a positive effect (P < 0.05) on the ingestive, resting, and feather preening behavior. Vitamin C supplementation increased (P < 0.05) the AID% of lysine, threonine, tryptophan, arginine, and valine. Safflower inclusion (10 g/kg) increased (P < 0.05) the AID% of methionine and isoleucine. Safflower oil inclusion increased (P < 0.05) the levels of stearic acid, linoleic acid, saturated fatty acids, and omega-3 fatty acids (ω-3) in the breast muscle. In contrast, the supplementation of only 10 g of safflower oil/kg diet increased (P = 0.01) the omega-3/omega-6 (ω-3/ω-6) fatty acids ratio. Vit. C supplementation increased (P < 0.05) the CAT serum levels, SOD, and GSH enzymes. Dietary supplementation of safflower oil and vitamin C improved the intestinal histology. They increased the villous height and width, crypt depth, villous height/crypt depth ratio, mucosal thickness, goblet cell count, and intra-epithelium lymphocytic lick cell infiltrations. The serum levels of IgA and complement C3 were increased (P < 0.01) by Vit. C supplementation and prominent in the 400 vit. C + 10 safflower Oil group. CONCLUSION A dietary combination of safflower oil and vitamin C resulted in improved growth rate, amino acids AID%, intestinal histology, welfare, immune and antioxidant status of birds, and obtaining ω-3 and linoleic acid-enriched breast muscles. The best inclusion level was 400 vit. C + 10 safflower Oil.

Abstract
The current investigation was conducted to test the potential effects of in ovo feeding of vitamin A, L-carnitine, and folic acid on embryonic growth and post-hatch performance. A total of 450 fertile duck eggs were randomly distributed into two experiments of five groups/experiment (255 eggs/experiment and 45 egg/group). The experimental groups were: negative control (non-injected eggs), positive control (eggs were injected with 0.1 ml sterile deionized; DI water/egg), and three other treatments in which vitamin A, L-carnitine, and folic acid were injected (1 mg of each nutrient dissolved in 0.1 ml sterile DI water/egg). All-in ovo injected groups with vitamin A, L-carnitine, and folic acid increased the embryo weight, residual yolk weight, heart weight, hatchability percentage, and embryo length at the 25th day of incubation. At hatching, all micronutrients-in ovo injected treatments increased the duckling's weight, levels of blood hemoglobulin, plasma triiodothyronine, and thyroxin, insulin-like growth factor1, total protein, albumin, and globulin, compared with the controls in both experiments. Conclusively, the in ovo feeding of the present micronutrients showed positive impacts on embryonic development, hatchling health status of ducklings.

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplemental L-ascorbic acid (AA) and folic acid (FA) on broiler chickens under heat stress (HS) conditions when supplemented either alone or in combination. For this aim, the effect of these supplements on the broilers' growth performance, some blood parameters, antioxidant, and immune status were evaluated. Hatchling Cobb-500 broilers (total = 240) were fed either corn and soybean meal-based diet (control group) or basal diet supplemented with 200 mg AA/kg diet, 1.5 mg FA/kg diet, or 200 mg AA plus 1.5 mg FA/kg diet, for 35 days during the summer months (n = 6 replicates/group, 10 birds/replicate). The minimum and maximum average temperatures ranged from 84.5 to 96.2 °F, and the relative humidity ranged from 68.5 to 76.5%. Supplemented vitamins either alone and (or) in combination increased (P < 0.01) broilers' growth performance, thyroid hormones levels, insulin growth factor1, blood hemoglobin, total protein, albumin, globulin, heat shock protein70, total antioxidant capacity, catalase enzyme activity, superoxide dismutase enzyme activity, antibody titer against Newcastle disease virus, and decreased (P < 0.01) heterophil/lymphocytes. The effects (P < 0.01) of the supplemented vitamins on the analyzed parameters were better when they were added in combination. In conclusion, the combination of AA and FA at 200 and 1.5 mg/kg, respectively, increased the broilers' antioxidant status with coordinated improvement in the growth performance and health status under HS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Inclusion of vitamin E in poultry diets and manipulation of temperature at early age has been known to help birds cope with heat stress at later age of their life. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of early age heat conditioning (EHC) and vitamin E addition on the performance and blood parameters to alleviate deleterious impact of heat stress in quail chicks. MATERIAL AND METHODS Three hundred one-day-old quail chicks were randomly divided into 4 groups of 5 replicates with 15 birds of each. Treatments were: Control, vitamin E: Chicks were fed the basal diet supplemented with 200 IU kg-1 diet vitamin E, EHC: Chicks were exposed to 40±1°C for 2 h at days 7th and 13th of embryogenesis and EHC+vitamin E: Chicks were exposed to 40±1°C for 2 h at days 7th and 13th of embryogenesis and fed the basal diet supplemented with 200 IU kg-1 vitamin E. The experiment lasted from 1-40 days of age. RESULTS The results indicated that using early age heat conditioning and/or supplementation of vitamin E significantly (p<0.05) improved body weight, feed intake and feed conversion ratio at 40 days of age. Significantly (p<0.05) improvement was observed in blood pH, H/L ratio and Hb concentration, thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), plasma protein fractions and antioxidant status (Total antioxidant capacity, catalase and superoxide dismutase). CONCLUSION Exposed quail chicks to early age heat conditioning and addition of vitamin E at 200 IU kg-1 diet can effectively alleviate the adverse effects of heat stress.

Abstract
Background
Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) is essential to the assessment of functional impairment and prognosis in patients with heart failure (HF). Peak oxygen consumption (peak VO2) continues to be considered the gold standard for assessing prognosis in HF. The minute ventilation-carbon dioxide production (VE-VCO2) slope has recently demonstrated prognostic significance in patients with HF. Ergometer stress echocardiography (Erg-Echo) is useful to evaluate the exercise-induced pulmonary hypertension and the potential cardiac dysfunction that are difficult to evaluate in the resting state.
Objective
The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between CPX and Erg-echo indices, and the usefulness of Erg-echo to determine the severity of cardiac dysfunction and the prognosis in patients with HF.
Methods
We studied 58 patients with HF (age 65.2 ± 11.9 years) and performed CPX and Erg-Echo. The peak VO2 and the VE-VCO2 slope were measured by CPX. Cardiac output (CO) and estimated mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) were measured by Erg-Echo at rest and peak exercise load, and the change ratio (ΔmPAP / ΔCO) were calculated. We evaluated the clinical outcome during a1 year period.
Results
The ΔmPAP / ΔCO was significantly correlated with the peak VO2 (R = -0.6767, P <0.0001) and the VE-VCO2 slope (R = 0.6809, P <0.0001). Cardiovascular events (1 patient of cardiovascular death, 8 patients of re-hospitalization due to HF, 4 patients of myocardial ischemia, 2 patients of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) devices implantation, 1 patient of ventricular tachycardia) developed in 16 of the 58 patients (27.5%: Group CE) during the 1 year. The peak VO2 was significantly lower (12.1 ± 2.5 vs. 16.1 ± 3.1ml/min/kg, P <0.0001) and the VE-VCO2 slope was significantly higher (41.1 ±. 12.3 vs. 31.8 ± 6.1ml/ml, P <0.0001) in Group CE compared to the other 42 patients (Group N). The ΔmPAP was significantly higher (19.1 ± 4.4 vs. 14.9 ± 6.4, P = 0.0408) and the ΔCO was significantly lower (2.4 ± 1.2 vs. 4.1 ± 2.0, P = 0.0078), and the ΔmPAP / ΔCO was significantly higher (9.7 ± 4.6 vs. 4.4 ± 2.4, P <0.0001) in Group CE compared to Group N.
Conclusions
The ΔmPAP/ ΔCO by Erg-Echo is useful to evaluate the severity of cardiac dysfunction and the prognosis of HF patients.

Abstract
Fatty Acid Oxidation disorders represent an expanding group of inborn errors of metabolism. Clinical manifestations include episodic encephalopathy, hypoketotic hypoglycemia, Reye like episodes, hepatic, muscular, cardiac affection and sudden death. Analysis of urinary organic acids and plasma fatty acids of 44 clinically suspected patients by Gas Chromatography Mass spectrometry revealed 4 cases of Medium chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MCADD), 3 cases of Very long chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, 9 cases of multiple defects of acyl-CoA dehydrogenation in addition to 3 patients with other metabolic disorders. Abstract
Serine acetyltransferase (SATase; EC 2.3.1.30), which catalyzes the formation of O-acetyl-L-serine (OAS) from acetyl-CoA and L-serine, plays a regulatory role in the biosynthesis of cysteine by its property of feedback inhibition by cysteine in bacteria and certain plants. Three cDNA clones encoding SATase isoforms (SAT-c, SAT-p, and SAT-m) have been isolated from Arabidopsis thaliana. However, the significance of the feedback regulation has not yet been clear in these different isoforms of SATase from A. thaliana. We constructed the overexpression vectors for cDNAs encoding three SATase isoforms of A. thaliana and analyzed the inhibition of SATase activity by cysteine using the recombinant SATase proteins. In the case of SAT-c, the activity was feedback-inhibited by a low concentration of cysteine (the concentration that inhibits 50% activity; IC50 = 1.8 microM). By contrast, SAT-p and SAT-m were feedback inhibition-insensitive isozymes. We also determined the subcellular localization of three SATase isozymes by the transient expression of fusion proteins of each SATase N-terminal region with jellyfish green fluorescent protein (GFP) in 4-week-old Arabidopsis leaves. The SAT-c-GFP fusion protein was stayed in cytosol, whereas SAT-p-GFP and SAT-m-GFP fusion proteins were localized in chloroplasts and in mitochondria, respectively. These results suggest that these three SATase isoforms, which are localized in the different organelles, are subjected to different feedback regulation, presumably so as to play the particular roles for the production of OAS and cysteine in Arabidopsis cells. Regulatory circuit of cysteine biosynthesis in the plant cells is discussed.

Abstract
We present two protocols for information exchange between multiple identical senders and a single receiver. At each instant, every sender sends one bit, and the bits from all of senders are or-ed together into one bit before being received by the receiver. If a sender has a data message to send, it sends the message bits one by one; otherwise it sends zero bits. Clearly, if the sending of two messages by two senders overlap, then the resulting “collision” can result in a corrupted message, i.e., one that was not sent by either sender. The function of the protocol is to deliver those and only those messages that are not corrupted by collision. (In other words, the receiver acts as a discriminating seine that catches and delivers only uncorrupted messages; hence the title.) The two protocols presented here are based on Manchester codes and general balanced codes, respectively.
