Abstract
BACKGROUND 4-20% of people report using cannabis during pregnancy, thereby it is essential to assess the associated risks. There is some evidence that prenatal cannabis exposure (PCE) may be associated with increased risk for developing of obesity and diabetes later in life, however this has not been well explored under controlled conditions. The aim of this study was to use a translational THC vapor model in rodents to characterize the effects of PCE on adiposity, glucose metabolism, and feeding patterns in adulthood, with focus on potential sex differences. METHODS Pregnant Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to vaporized THC (100 mg/ml) or control (polyethylene glycol vehicle) across the entire gestational period. Adult offspring from PCE (n = 24) or control (n = 24) litters were subjected to measures of adiposity, glucose metabolism and feeding behavior. Rats were then placed onto special diets (60% high-fat diet [HFD] or control 10% low fat diet [LFD]) for 4-months, then re-subjected to adiposity, glucose metabolism and feeding behavior measurements. RESULTS PCE did not influence maternal weight or food consumption but was associated with transient decreased pup weight. PCE did not initially influence bodyweight or adiposity, but PCE did significantly reduce the rate of bodyweight gain when on HFD/LFD, regardless of which diet. Further, PCE had complex effects on glucose metabolism and feeding behavior that were both sex and diet dependent. No effects of PCE were found on plasma leptin or insulin, or white adipose tissue mass. CONCLUSIONS PCE may not promote obesity development but may increase risk for diabetes and abnormal eating habits under certain biological and environmental conditions. Overall, this data enhances current understanding of the potential impacts of PCE.

Introduction
Leucine supplementation improves muscle protein synthesis in physiological studies and has been proposed as a treatment to improve muscle mass and physical performance. We tested the effects of leucine supplementation in a randomised controlled trial enrolling patients with sarcopenia.
Methods
We conducted a placebo-controlled, parallel group, double-blind, randomised two-by-two factorial trial. Participants aged 70 and over with low muscle mass by bioimpedance and either low grip strength or low walk speed, were recruited from 14 UK sites. Participants were randomised to receive one year of leucine powder 2.5 g three times a day or matching placebo, plus perindopril 4 mg once daily or matching placebo. The primary outcome was the between-group difference in the Short Physical Performance Battery, measured at baseline, 6 and 12 months, analysed using repeated-measures mixed models. Secondary outcomes included grip strength, quadriceps strength, six-minute walk distance, appendicular muscle mass measured by dual x-ray absorptiometry, quality of life measured using the EQ5D tool, falls rates and adverse events.
Results
We screened 320 people and randomised 145 participants, mean age 79 (SD 6) years; 78 (54%) were women and the mean SPPB was 7.0 (SD 2.4). 72 were randomised to leucine and 73 to placebo. Median adherence was the same in both groups (76% vs 76%; p < 0.001). Leucine had no significant effect on the primary outcome (adjusted treatment effect 0.1 points [95%CI -1.0 to 1.1]). No significant treatment effect was seen for any secondary outcome. There were similar numbers of adverse events in both groups (leucine 187, placebo 196) and falls rates were similar (leucine 1.9 [95%CI 0.9 to 2.9] per year; placebo 2.9 [95%CI 0.8 to 5.0] per year).
Conclusion
Leucine did not improve measures of physical performance, muscle mass or quality of life in older people with sarcopenia.

More adverse events were seen in the perindopril group (218 vs 165) but falls rates were similar (perindopril 2.0 [95%CI 1.1 to 3.0] per year; placebo 2.8 [95%CI 0.6 to 5.1] per year).
Conclusion
Perindopril did not improve measures of physical performance, muscle mass or quality of life in older people with sarcopenia.

Abstract
Cannabinoids, including cannabis derived phytocannabinoids and endogenous cannabinoids (endocannabinoids), are typically considered anti-inflammatory. One such endocannabinoid is N-arachidonoylethanolamine (anandamide, AEA), which is metabolized by fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). In humans, there is a loss of function single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the FAAH gene (C385A, rs324420), that leads to increases in the levels of AEA. Using a mouse model with this SNP, we investigated how this SNP affects inflammation in a model of inflammatory bowel disease. We administered 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) intracolonically, to adult male FAAH SNP mice and examined colonic macroscopic tissue damage and myeloperoxidase activity, as well as levels of plasma and amygdalar cytokines and chemokines 3 days after administration, at the peak of colitis. We found that mice possessing the loss of function alleles (AC and AA), displayed no differences in colonic damage or myeloperoxidase activity compared to mice with wild type alleles (CC). In contrast, in plasma, colitis-induced increases in interleukin (IL)-2, leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) were reduced in animals with an A allele. A similar pattern was observed in the amygdala for granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) and MCP-1. In the amygdala, the mutant A allele led to lower levels of IL-1α, IL-9, macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-1β, and MIP-2 independent of colitis-providing additional understanding of how FAAH may serve as a regulator of inflammatory responses in the brain. Together, these data provide insights into how FAAH regulates inflammatory processes in disease.

Abstract
Up to a third of North Americans report using cannabis in the prior month, most commonly through inhalation. Animal models that reflect human consumption are critical to study the impact of cannabis on brain and behaviour. Most animal studies to date utilize injection of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC; primary psychoactive component of cannabis). THC injections produce markedly different physiological and behavioural effects than inhalation, likely due to distinctive pharmacokinetics. The current study directly examined if administration route (injection versus inhalation) alters metabolism and central accumulation of THC and metabolites over time. Adult male and female Sprague–Dawley rats received either an intraperitoneal injection or a 15-min session of inhaled exposure to THC. Blood and brains were collected at 15, 30, 60, 90 and 240-min post-exposure for analysis of THC and metabolites. Despite achieving comparable peak blood THC concentrations in both groups, our results indicate higher initial brain THC concentration following inhalation, whereas injection resulted in dramatically higher 11-OH-THC concentration, a potent THC metabolite, in blood and brain that increased over time. Our results provide evidence of different pharmacokinetic profiles following inhalation versus injection. Accordingly, administration route should be considered during data interpretation, and translational animal work should strongly consider using inhalation models.

Abstract
Cannabis use during pregnancy has increased over the past few decades, with recent data indicating that, in youth and young adults especially, up to 22% of people report using cannabis during pregnancy. Animal models provide the ability to study prenatal cannabis exposure (PCE) with control over timing and dosage; however, these studies utilize both injection and inhalation approaches. While it is known that Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC; primary psychoactive component of cannabis) can cross the placenta, examination of the transmission and concentration of THC and its metabolites from maternal blood into the placenta and fetal brain remains relatively unknown, and the influence of route of administration has never been examined. Pregnant female rats were exposed to either vaporized THC-dominant cannabis extract for pulmonary consumption or subcutaneous injection of THC repeatedly during the gestational period. Maternal blood, placenta, and fetal brains were collected following the final administration of THC for analysis of THC and its metabolites, as well as endocannabinoid concentrations, through mass spectrometry. Both routes of administration resulted in the transmission of THC and its metabolites in placenta and fetal brain. Repeated exposure to inhaled THC vapor resulted in fetal brain THC concentrations that were about 30% of those seen in maternal blood, whereas repeated injections resulted in roughly equivalent concentrations of THC in maternal blood and fetal brain. Neither inhalation nor injection of THC during pregnancy altered fetal brain endocannabinoid concentrations. Our data provide the first characterization of maternal-fetal transmission of THC and its metabolites following both vaporized delivery and injection routes of administration. These data are important to establish the maternal-fetal transmission in preclinical injection and inhalation models of PCE and may provide insight into predicting fetal exposure in human studies.

Abstract
The supramammillary nucleus (SuM) has an emerging role in appetite control. We have shown that the rat SuM is activated during hunger or food anticipation, or by ghrelin administration. In the present study, we characterised the connectivity between the SuM and key appetite- and motivation-related nuclei in the rat. In adult wild-type rats, or rats expressing Cre recombinase under the control of the tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) promoter (TH-Cre rats), we used c-Fos immunohistochemistry to visualise and correlate the activation of medial SuM (SuMM) with activation in the lateral hypothalamic area (LH), the dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH) or the ventral tegmental area (VTA) after voluntary consumption of a high-sugar, high-fat food. To determine neuroanatomical connectivity, we used retrograde and anterograde tracing methods to specifically investigate the neuronal inputs and outputs of the SuMM. After consumption of the food there were positive correlations between c-Fos expression in the SuMM and the LH, DMH and VTA (P = 0.0001, 0.01 and 0.004). Using Fluoro-Ruby as a retrograde tracer, we demonstrate the existence of inputs from the LH, DMH, VTA and ventromedial hypothalamus (VMH) to the SuMM. The SuMM showed reciprocal inputs to the LH and DMH, and we identified a TH-positive output from SuMM to DMH. We co-labelled retrogradely-labelled sections for TH in the VMH, or for TH, orexin and melanin-concentrating hormone in the LH and DMH. However, we did not observe any colocalisation of immunoreactivity with any retrogradely-labelled cells. Viral mapping in TH-Cre rats confirms the existence of a reciprocal SuMM-DMH connection and shows that TH-positive cells project from the SuMM and VTA to the lateral septal area and cingulate cortex, respectively. These data provide evidence for the connectivity of the SuMM to brain regions involved in appetite control, and form the foundation for functional and behavioural studies aiming to further characterise the brain circuitry controlling eating behaviours.

Abstract
Physiological circadian rhythms are orchestrated by the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). The activity of SCN cells is synchronised by environmental signals, including light information from retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). We recently described a population of vasopressin-expressing RGCs (VP-RGC) that send axonal projections to the SCN. To determine how these VP-RGCs influence the activity of cells in the SCN, we used optogenetic tools to specifically activate their axon terminals within the SCN. Rats were intravitreally injected with a recombinant adeno-associated virus to express the channelrhodopsin-2 and the red fluorescent protein mCherry under the vasopressin promoter (VP-ChR2mCherry). In vitro recordings in acute brain slices showed that approximately 30% of ventrolateral SCN cells responded to optogenetic stimulation with an increase in firing rate that progressively increased during the first 200 seconds of stimulation and which persisted after the end of stimulation. Finally, application of a vasopressin V1A receptor antagonist dampened the response to optogenetic stimulation. Our data suggest that optogenetic stimulation of VP-RGC axons within the SCN influences the activity of SCN cells in a vasopressin-dependent manner.

Abstract
Background Homelessness is increasing globally. It results in poorer physical and mental health than age matched people living in permanent housing. Better information on the health needs of people experiencing homelessness is needed to inform effective resourcing, planning and service delivery by government and care organisations. The aim of this review was to identify assessment tools that are valid, reliable and appropriate to measure the health status of people who are homeless. Methods Data sources: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed (and Medline), PsychInfo, Scopus, CINAHL and ERIC from database inception until September 2018. Key words used were homeless, homelessness, homeless persons, vagrancy, health status, health, health issues, health assessment and health screening. The protocol was registered with PROSPERO. The National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC) hierarchy of evidence was applied; methodological quality of included articles was assessed using the McMaster critical appraisal tools and psychometric properties of the tools were appraised using the International Centre for Allied Health Evidence Ready Reckoner. Results Diverse tools and measures (N = 71) were administered within, and across the reviewed studies (N = 37), with the main focus being on general health, oral health and nutrition. Eleven assessment tools in 13 studies had evidence of appropriate psychometric testing for the target population in domains of quality of life and health status, injury, substance use, mental health, psychological and cognitive function. Methodological quality of articles and tools were assessed as moderate to good. No validated tools were identified to assess oral health, chronic conditions, anthropometry, demography, nutrition, continence, functional decline and frailty, or vision and hearing. However, assessments of physical constructs (such as oral health, anthropometry, vision and hearing) could be applied to homeless people on a presumption of validity, because the constructs would be measured with clinical indicators in the same manner as people living in permanent dwellings. Conclusions This review highlighted the need to develop consistent and comprehensive health assessment tools validated with, and tailored for, adults experiencing homelessness. Abstract
The circulating orexigenic hormone ghrelin targets many brain areas involved in feeding control and signals via a dedicated receptor, the growth hormone secretagogue receptor 1A. One unexplored target area for ghrelin is the supramammillary nucleus (SuM), a hypothalamic area involved in motivation and reinforcement and also recently linked to metabolic control. Given that ghrelin binds to the SuM, we explored whether SuM cells respond to ghrelin and/or are activated when endogenous ghrelin levels are elevated. We found that peripheral ghrelin injection activates SuM cells in rats, reflected by an increase in the number of cells expressing c-Fos protein in this area, as welll as by the predominantly excitatory response of single SuM cells recorded in in vivo electrophysiological studies. Further c-Fos mapping studies reveal that this area is also activated in rats in situations when circulating ghrelin levels are known to be elevated: in food-restricted rats anticipating the consumption of food and in fed rats anticipating the consumption of an energy-dense food. We also show that intra-SuM injection of ghrelin induces a feeding response in rats suggesting that, if peripheral ghrelin is able to access the SuM, it may have direct effects on this brain region. Collectively, our data demonstrate that the SuM is activated when peripheral ghrelin levels are high, further supporting the emerging role for this brain area in metabolic and feeding control.

Abstract
Oxytocin is a potent anorexigen and is believed to have a role in satiety signaling. We developed rat models to study the activity of oxytocin neurons in response to voluntary consumption or oral gavage of foods using c-Fos immunohistochemistry and in vivo electrophysiology. Using c-Fos expression as an indirect marker of neural activation, we showed that the percentage of magnocellular oxytocin neurons expressing c-Fos increased with voluntary consumption of sweetened condensed milk (SCM). To model the effect of food in the stomach, we gavaged anesthetized rats with SCM. The percentage of supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nucleus magnocellular oxytocin-immunoreactive neurons expressing c-Fos increased with SCM gavage but not with gastric distention. To further examine the activity of the supraoptic nucleus, we made in vivo electrophysiological recordings from SON neurons, where anesthetized rats were gavaged with SCM or single cream. Pharmacologically identified oxytocin neurons responded to SCM gavage with a linear, proportional, and sustained increase in firing rate, but cream gavage resulted in a transient reduction in firing rate. Blood glucose increased after SCM gavage but not cream gavage. Plasma osmolarity and plasma sodium were unchanged throughout. We show that in response to high-sugar, but not high-fat, food in the stomach, there is an increase in the activity of oxytocin neurons. This does not appear to be a consequence of stomach distention or changes in osmotic pressure. Our data suggest that the presence of specific foods with different macronutrient profiles in the stomach differentially regulates the activity of oxytocin neurons.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Energy intake is regulated by overlapping homeostatic and hedonic systems. Consumption of palatable foods has been implicated in weight gain, but this assumes that homeostatic control systems do not accurately detect this hedonically driven energy intake. This study tested this assumption, hypothesizing that satiated rats would reduce their voluntary food intake and maintain a stable body weight after consuming a palatable food. METHODS Lean rats or rats previously exposed to an obesogenic diet were schedule-fed with fixed or varying amounts of palatable sweetened condensed milk (SCM) daily, and their voluntary energy intake and body weight were monitored. RESULTS During scheduled feeding of SCM, rats voluntarily reduced bland food consumption and maintained a stable body weight. This behavior was also seen in rats with access to an obesogenic diet and was independent of the predictability of SCM access. However, lean rats offered large amounts of SCM showed an increase in total energy intake. To test whether a nutrient deficiency drove this under-compensatory behavior, SCM was enriched with protein. However, no effect was seen on voluntary energy intake. CONCLUSIONS In schedule-fed rats, compensatory reductions in voluntary energy intake were seen, but under-compensation was observed if large amounts of SCM were consumed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increasing children's participation in physical activity and decreasing time spent in sedentary behaviours is of great importance to public health. Despite living in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, some children manage to engage in health-promoting physical activity and avoid high levels of screen-based activities (i.e. watching TV, computer use and playing electronic games). Understanding how these children manage to do well and whether there are unique features of their home or neighbourhood that explain their success is important for informing strategies targeting less active and more sedentary children. The aim of this qualitative study was to gain in-depth insights from mothers regarding their child's resilience to low physical activity and high screen-time. METHODS Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted with 38 mothers of children who lived in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in urban and rural areas of Victoria, Australia. The interviews were designed to gain in-depth insights about perceived individual, social and physical environmental factors influencing resilience to low physical activity and high screen-time. RESULTS Themes relating to physical activity that emerged from the interviews included: parental encouragement, support and modelling; sports culture in a rural town; the physical home and neighbourhood environment; child's individual personality; and dog ownership. Themes relating to screen-time behaviours encompassed: parental control; and child's individual preferences. CONCLUSIONS The results offer important insights into potential avenues for developing 'resilience' and increasing physical activity and reducing screen-time among children living in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. In light of the negative effects of low physical activity and high levels of screen-time on children's health, this evidence is urgently needed.

Abstract
People with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) want to enjoy the benefits of sport and exercise, but management of diabetes in this context is complex. An understanding of the physiology of exercise in health, and particularly the control of fuel mobilization and metabolism, gives an idea of problems which may arise in managing diabetes for sport and exercise. Athletes with diabetes need to be advised on appropriate diet to maximize performance and reduce fatigue. Exercise in diabetes is complicated both by hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia in particular circumstances and explanations are advanced which can provide a theoretical underpinning for possible management strategies. Management strategies are proposed to improve glycaemic control and performance.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the variability of cystosonographic bladder tumor measurements with both operator and bladder volume changes. Ten dogs with bladder tumors were included. In each dog, three operators determined tumor dimensions for three different bladder volumes. Intraclass correlation coefficient was used to assess operator reliability. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) and greater than or equal to 50% differences in tumor measurements were used as guidelines. Poor to fair correlations between operators were found for the different tumor dimensions (r(I) = 0.4 - 0.7). The percent differences in tumor dimensions with operator and bladder volume changes were significant enough to misclassify the tumors into the categories of partial response (PR) or progressive disease (PD). These results suggest that cystosonographic measurements of bladder tumors are affected by both changes in operator and bladder volume, and the discrepancies are significant enough to change response classification.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to review evidence of the effectiveness of interventions that present physical activity outcomes and potential mediators of behavioural change among 4-12-year-old children. A systematic search of electronic databases for original research articles published in peer-review journals between January 1985 and the end of June 2006 was carried out. A total of 19 studies that reported intervention effects on physical activity and mediators of behavioural change were identified. The most common mediators reported included physical activity knowledge or beliefs (11 studies); self-efficacy (8 studies); and enjoyment or preference for physical activity (6 studies). Less frequently reported mediators included attitudes, behavioural capability, intentions, outcome expectancies, social norms, social support and self-concept. Seven of the 11 interventions that reported intervention effects on knowledge/beliefs stated positive changes in this mediator. Four of the eight studies that reported intervention effects on self-efficacy had significant improvements; however, only two out of six interventions reported significant improvements in physical activity enjoyment or preference. None of the studies reviewed reported whether changes in these constructs mediated changes in children's physical activity behaviours. Although more than half of the studies reviewed reported a positive intervention effect on children's physical activity, no study carried out a mediating analysis to attempt to identify the mechanisms of change. Future research should more clearly identify the mediators of behavioural change that are being targeted and whether this explains intervention effects.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast is a rare type of breast cancer accounting for approximately 0.1% of all breast cancer and less than 200 cases are reported in the literature. Hence, data for treatment and outcome are limited. This retrospective review reports the Mayo Clinic's experience.Methods: We identified 30 patients between 1971 and 2009 who were diagnosed with adenoid cystic breast cancer at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Arizona or Florida. Median follow-up was 62 months with a range of 1 to 424 months. Data regarding demographics (age, gender, and race), tumor characteristics (size, grade, and margin status), biological features (Estrogen receptor (ER), Progesterone receptor (PR) status, HER2 status) and clinical course (recurrence, secondary treatment) were collected. Disease free survival was calculated using Kaplan Meier estimates.Results: The median age of all patients was 58 (range, 22 – 78 years). All were female. Median tumor size was 1.3 cm (range, 0.6 – 8.5cm). Axillary lymph node sampling (sentinel or complete dissection) was performed in 15 patients. No patient had lymph node positive disease on presentation. The majority of patients had hormone receptor negative disease. Only 3 patients (10%) had weak hormone receptor (1-10%) positivity. No tumors were HER2 positive. Only two patients had high grade disease. Initial surgical data only available in twenty one patients: fifteen (50%) were treated with lumpectomy and adjuvant radiation, and 6 (20%) were treated with mastectomy. There were no local recurrences. Only one patient was treated with adjuvant chemotherapy (with cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and fluorouracil (CMF) followed by tamoxifen) but still suffered a distant recurrence within 5 years. There were a total of five patients that recurred. The 5-year disease free survival (DFS) rate for the entire cohort was 90%, and 10 year DFS was 83%. Median time to recurrence was 47.5 months (Range, 23-77 months). Recurrence occurred almost exclusively in patients with ≥ T2 disease. The primary site of metastases was lung (80%) and bone (20%) but subsequent liver and brain metastases were also seen. Treatments at relapse included surgical resection, radiosurgery and chemotherapy.Conclusion: Adenoid cystic carcinomas of the breast are rare but have overall good prognosis. This review confirms that the majority of these patients present with node negative disease, low to intermediate histologic grade and endocrine unresponsive tumors. Primary treatment is surgery (mastectomy or lumpectomy plus radiation) and there seems to be no role of any adjuvant therapy at the present time. In general, recurrences (80%) occurred with tumors larger than 2 cm and adjuvant chemotherapy and/or targeted therapy could be explored for selected patients in the context of a clinical trial. Overall mortality after recurrence was 50% but median overall survival was variable in years (1-14 years).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Given the importance of physical activity for health and age-related declines in physical activity, understanding influences on related behaviours, such as time outdoors, is crucial. This study aimed to understand individual, social and physical environmental influences on longitudinal changes in urban children's time outdoors. METHODS The time children spent outdoors in 2001, 2004 and 2006 (aged 5-6 and 10-12 years at baseline) was reported by their parents (n=421). In 2001, individual, social and physical environmental factors were self-reported by parents. Generalized estimating equations examined longitudinal relationships between baseline predictors and average change in time outdoors over 5 years. RESULTS Children's time outdoors significantly declined over time. "Indoor tendencies" inversely predicted time outdoors among younger and older boys, and younger girls. Social opportunities positively predicted time outdoors among younger boys, while "outdoor tendencies" positively predicted time outdoors among older boys. Parental encouragement for activity positively predicted time outdoors among younger and older girls, while lack of adult supervision for active play outdoors after school inversely predicted time outdoors among older girls and older boys. CONCLUSION Individual (indoor and outdoor tendencies) and social factors (social opportunities, parental encouragement and parental supervision) predicted children's time outdoors over 5 years. Interventions targeting reduced indoor tendencies, increased outdoor play with others, and increased parental encouragement and supervision are warranted.

Abstract
Hybrid cochlear implants would integrate electric and acoustic auditory stimulation into a single unit to rehabilitate patients with sensori-neural hearing loss. Conceptually, hybrid cochlear implants consist of an electrode array, as in traditional cochlear implants, and an acoustic microactuator to generate pressure waves inside the cochlea. To enable hybrid cochlear implants, one must develop acoustic actuators small enough to be placed directly into the cochlea. In this study, the microactuators consist of a silicon diaphragm and a Lead-Zirconate-Titanate Oxide (PZT) thin film. Two actuators are tested. For the first actuator, the diaphragm size is 1.1 mm by 1.1 mm, the diaphragm thickness is about 12 m, and the PZT film thickness is 1 μm. The microactuator is tested in an unloaded condition (in air) and a loaded condition (with water and glass sheets) equivalent to a loading of 17 Pa. The microactuator presents a constant displacement of 16 nm, when the driving voltage is sinusoidal with amplitude of 5 V and frequency ranging from 500 Hz to 10 kHz. For the second actuator, the diaphragm size is 800 μm by 800 μm, the diaphragm thickness is 1 μm, and the PZT film thickness remains 1 m. The second actuator presents a displacement of 6 nm, when the sinusoidal driving voltage is 7.5 V in amplitude. Abstract
Environmental factors may have an important influence on children's physical activity, yet children's perspectives of their home and neighborhood environments have not been widely assessed. The aim of this study was to investigate children's perceptions of their environments, and to examine associations between these perceptions and objectively measured physical activity. The sample consisted of 147, 10-year-old Australian children, who drew maps of their home and neighborhood environments. A subsample of children photographed places and things in these environments that were important to them. The maps were analyzed for themes, and for the frequency with which particular objects and locations appeared. Physical activity was objectively measured using accelerometers. Six themes emerged from the qualitative analysis of the maps and photographs: the family home; opportunities for physical activity and sedentary pursuits; food items and locations; green space and outside areas; the school and opportunities for social interaction. Of the 11 variables established from these themes, one home and two neighborhood factors were associated with children's physical activity. These findings contribute to a broader understanding of children's perceptions of their environment, and highlight the potential importance of the home and neighborhood environments for promoting physical activity behavior.

Abstract
We have characterized a nuclear protein complex from B lymphoblastoid cell lines that binds to HLA class II promoters as detected by electrophoretic gel mobility shift assays (EMSA). This complex (C1) binds to three independent sites in the proximal DRA promoter which have not been identified previously as cis-acting elements. C1 is very abundant in Burkitt's lymphoma cell lines, but less abundant in "normal" B lymphoblastoid cell lines. The binding specificity of the C1 complex was analysed using competition experiments and chemical footprinting methods. Complexes with specificity similar to C1 also bind the DPA and DQA promoters. Though mutation of the sequences in the DRA promoter that severely reduced binding of the C1 complex had no effect on the ability of the DRA fragment to drive transcription of the reporter gene in transient expression or in vitro transcription assays, this conservation of binding sites among all class II promoters tested suggests functional relevance in transcription. In addition, complexes similar to C1 were observed in nuclear extracts from all cell lines examined, but minor differences in mobility appeared to correlate with class II expression. Thus, the C1 complex may act as a trans-acting factor in MHC class II expression.

Abstract
51 patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and with suspected Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia underwent sputum induction. Sputum specimens from 18 patients were positive for P carinii and patients were treated appropriately 25 of the 33 patients with negative specimens underwent bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage within 4 days of sputum induction, only 1 of whom had evidence of Pneumocystis infection. For diagnosis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, sputum induction according to a strict protocol had a sensitivity of 94.7% and a negative predictive value of 96%, compared with bronchoalveolar lavage.
