Abstract
Extramedullary hematopoiesis represents a clinical compensatory condition characterized by the growth of hematopoietic tissue outside the bone marrow. It can mainly occur in patient with myeloproliferative disorders where alteration or neoplastic invasion of the bone marrow causes ineffective production of blood cells with the recruitment of progenitrix blood cells in non-hematopoietic organs, including kidneys. Renal extramedullary hematopoiesis is a rare condition manifesting as parenchymal or perirenal soft tissue masses with different patterns mimicking neoplasms, infectious or vascular diseases. We describe a unique case of a patient affected by primary myelofibrosis underwent ultrasound and magnetic resonance examinations showing bilateral perirenal alterations to be related to hemopoietic tissue. We also focused on the pathophysiology of this condition with imaging correlation. The case we present emphasises the importance of recognising the main radiological features of renal extramedullary hematopoiesis. MR examination should become part of the diagnostic pathway of the patient with primary myelofibrosis.

Abstract
Acute colonic diverticulitis (ACD) is the most common complication of diverticular disease and represents an abdominal emergency. It includes a variety of conditions, extending from localized diverticular inflammation to fecal peritonitis, hence the importance of an accurate diagnosis. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis due to its high sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and interobserver agreement. In fact, CE-CT allows alternative diagnoses to be excluded, the inflamed diverticulum to be localized, and complications to be identified. Imaging findings have been reviewed, dividing them into bowel and extra-intestinal wall findings. Moreover, CE-CT allows staging of the disease; the most used classifications of ACD severity are Hinchey's modified and WSES classifications. Differential diagnoses include colon carcinoma, epiploic appendagitis, ischemic colitis, appendicitis, infectious enterocolitis, and inflammatory bowel disease. We propose a structured reporting template to standardize the terminology and improve communication between specialists involved in patient care.

Abstract
Invasive species can cause severe economic damages, ecosystem alterations, and can even threat human health. In the global warming scenario, which can act as a driving force for the expansion of thermophilic species, we investigated for the first time the economic damage caused by the invasive bearded fireworm, Hermodice carunculata, to artisanal longline fishery in the Mediterranean Sea. We focused on bottom longline fishery targeting the highly prized white seabream Diplodus sargus, investigating catch composition of the fishing gear and Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) of species caught, with particular emphasis on the economic damage caused by the bearded fireworm, H. carunculata, in relation to water temperature. Our results clearly indicated direct and indirect economic damage to fishing activities practiced in the southeastern coast of Sicily (Ionian Sea). Type and extent of the damage caused by the invasive worm (H. carunculata) were discussed in relation to temporal scale and overall yields obtained by this traditional artisanal fishery, and some solutions are proposed. However, the actual situation requires special attention because it is expected to worsen in the context of the global warming future scenarios, such that further studies are urgently needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate relationships between histogram-based high-resolution CT (HRCT) indexes and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in interstitial lung diseases. METHODS Forty-nine patients having baseline and 1-year HRCT examinations and PFTs were investigated. Histogram-based HRCT indexes were calculated; strength of associations with PFTs was investigated using Pearson correlation. Patients were divided into progressive and non-progressive groups. HRCT indexes were compared between the two groups using the U-test; within each group, baseline and follow-up Wilcoxon analysis was performed. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used for predicting disease progression. RESULTS At baseline, moderate correlations were observed considering kurtosis and diffusion capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) (r = 0.54) and skewness and DLCO (r = 0.559), whereas weak but significant correlations were observed between forced vital capacity and kurtosis (r = 0.368, p = 0.009) and forced vital capacity and skewness (r = 0.391, p = 0.005). Negative correlations were reported between HAA% and PFTs (from r = -0.418 up to r = -0.507). At follow-up correlations between quantitative indexes and PFTs were also moderate, except for high attenuation area (HAA)% -700 and DLCO (r = -0.397). In progressive subgroup, moderate and strong correlations were found between DLCO and HRCT indexes (r = 0.595 kurtosis, r = 0.672 skewness, r=-0. 598 HAA% -600 and r = -0.626 HAA% -700). At follow-up, we observed significant differences between the two groups for kurtosis (p = 0.029), HAA% -600 (p = 0.04) and HAA% -700 (p = 0.02). To predict progression, ROC analysis reported sensitivity of 90.9% and specificity of 51.9% using a threshold value of δ kurtosis <0.03. CONCLUSION At one year, moderate correlations suggest that progression could be assessed through HRCT quantification. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE This study promotes histogram-based HRCT indexes in the assessment of progressive pulmonary fibrosis.

Abstract
Endovascular management of abdominal wall hematomas (AWHs) is now the primary treatment option in hemodynamically stable patients, and it is often preferred to surgical interventions. The purpose of this multicentric study was to assess the safety, technical, and clinical success of percutaneous transarterial embolization (PTAE) of spontaneous AWHs to evaluate the efficacy of blind or empiric embolization compared to targeted embolization and to compare the outcome of the endovascular treatment approach in patients affected by COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients. We retrospectively enrolled 112 patients with spontaneous AWHs who underwent PTAE, focusing on signs of bleeding at pre-procedural CTA and DSA. Patients were separated into two groups depending on whether a blind or targeted embolization approach was used. We also divided patients into COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 groups. The mean age of the study population was 68.6 ± 15.8 years. CTA and DSA revealed signs of active bleeding in 99 and 88 patients, respectively. In 21 patients, blind embolization was performed. The overall technical success rate was 99%. Clinical success was obtained in 96 patients (86%), while 16 (14%) re-bled within 96 h. One patient reported a major peri-procedural complication. The comparison between blind and targeted embolization approaches showed no statistically significant differences in the characteristics of groups and technical and clinical success rates. No significant differences were found in the procedural outcome between COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 groups. Our study confirmed that PTAE is effective for treating spontaneous AWHs, even in COVID-19 patients. It suggests that the efficacy and safety of blind embolization are comparable to targeted embolization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Anterior nutcracker syndrome is defined as the compression of the left renal vein (LRV) between the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and the aorta, whereas posterior nutcracker syndrome refers to the compression of the retroaortic LRV between the aorta and the vertebral column-the presence of the circumaortic left renal vein may predispose to "combined nutcracker syndrome". May-Thurner syndrome consists of obstruction of the left common iliac vein caused by the crossing right common iliac artery. We report a unique case of combined nutcracker syndrome associated with May-Thurner syndrome. CASE PRESENTATION A 39-year-old Caucasian female came to our radiology unit for triple-negative breast cancer computed tomography (CT) staging. She complained of pain in hermid-back and low-back regions and intermittent abdominal pain in the left flank region. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) incidentally revealed a circumaortic left renal vein draining to the inferior vena cava, with bulbous dilatation of both the antero-superior and posterior-inferior branches, which was associated with pathological serpiginous dilation of the left ovarian vein with varicose pelvic veins. Axial CT imaging of the pelvis also showed compression of the left common iliac vein by the overlying right common iliac artery consistent with May-Thurner syndrome without signs of venous thrombosis. CONCLUSION Contrast-enhanced CT is the best imaging modality for suspected vascular compression syndromes. CT findings showed a combination of anterior and posterior nutcracker syndrome in the left circumaortic renal vein, associated with May-Thurner syndrome, which has not previously been described in the literature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acute non-variceal gastrointestinal bleedings (GIBs) are pathological conditions associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Embolization without angiographic evidence of contrast media extravasation is proposed as an effective procedure in patients with clinical and/or laboratory signs of bleeding. The purpose of this systematic review is to define common clinical practice and clinical and technical outcomes of blind and preventive embolization for upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding. MAIN BODY Through the PubMed, Embase and Google Scholar database, an extensive search was performed in the fields of empiric and preventive embolization for the treatment of upper and lower gastrointestinal bleedings (UGIB and LGIB). Inclusion criteria were: articles in English for which it has been possible to access the entire content; adults patients treated with empiric or blind transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for UGIB and/or LGIB. Only studies that analysed clinical and technical success rate of blind and empiric TAE for UGIB and/or LGIB were considered for our research. Exclusion criteria were: recurrent articles from the same authors, articles written in other languages, those in which the entire content could not be accessed and that articles were not consistent to the purposes of our research. We collected pooled data on 1019 patients from 32 separate articles selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 22 studies focused on UGIB (total 773 patients), one articles focused on LGIB (total 6 patients) and 9 studies enrolled patients with both UGIB and LGIB (total 240 patients). Technical success rate varied from 62% to 100%, with a mean value of 97.7%; clinical success rate varied from 51% to 100% with a mean value of 80%. The total number of complications was 57 events out of 1019 procedures analysed. CONCLUSION TAE is an effective procedure in the treatment of UGIB patients in which angiography does not demonstrate direct sign of ongoing bleeding. The attitude in the treatment of LGIBs must be more prudent in relation to poor vascular anastomoses and the high risk of intestinal ischemia. Blind and preventive procedures cumulatively present a relatively low risk of complications, compared to a relatively high technical and clinical success.

Abstract
Trace elements have the potential to bioaccumulate in marine organisms and to biomagnify towards the upper levels of marine trophic webs, resulting in a range of negative effects on organisms. Elasmobranchs are highly susceptible to bioaccumulation of trace metals, while their consumption by humans is increasing worldwide. Therefore, it is important to monitor the trace metal content in the edible tissues of elasmobranchs. This work reveals the content of 12 trace metals in the edible tissues of 10 elasmobranch species caught in Greek waters. Levels above the permissible limits for Hg and Pb were found in some species, while analysis of the lifetime consumption risk for adults and children using the Target Hazard Quotient (THQ), revealed a high risk for two of the most toxic substances on the priority list for substances, namely As and Hg. These are preliminary results, and further research is required to understand better the issue.

Abstract
Background: Endovascular treatment of abdominal wall hematomas (AWHs) has been increasingly used when conservative treatments were not sufficiently effective, and it is often preferred to surgical interventions. The aim of our study was to evaluate the safety and technical and clinical success of percutaneous transarterial treatment of AWH and to evaluate the efficacy of blind embolization compared to targeted embolization. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 43 patients (23 men and 20 females) with spontaneous AWH who underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and embolization, focusing on the presence of signs of bleeding at pre-procedural CT-Angiography (CTA) and at DSA. Furthermore, we divided patients into two groups depending on blind or targeted embolization approaches. Results: The mean age of the study population was 71 ± 12 years. CTA revealed signs of active bleeding in 31 patients (72%). DSA showed signs of active bleeding in 34 patients (79%). In nine patients (21%), blind embolization was performed. The overall technical success rate was 100%. Clinical success was achieved in 33 patients (77%), while 10 patients (23%) rebled within 96 h, and all of them were re-treated. No major peri-procedural complication was reported. The comparison between blind and targeted embolization showed no statistically significant differences for characteristics of groups and for clinical success rates (78% and 77%, respectively, −p = 0.71). The technical success was 100% in both groups. Conclusions: Our study confirms that transarterial embolization is a safe and effective option for the treatment of spontaneous AWHs, and it suggests that the efficacy and safety of blind embolization is comparable to non-blind.

Abstract
In the Mediterranean Sea, where biological invasions constitute a serious threat, the combination of citizen science and social networks amplified the power of proper field studies, recording species that would have otherwise presumably passed unnoticed. Based on data collected on several Facebook groups, we hereby first report the presence of five fish taxa (Kyphosus sp., Heniochus intermedius, Pomacanthus imperator, Pomacanthus maculosus and Abudefduf sp.) new for the Mediterranean Egypt, revise their distribution in the Mediterranean Sea and discuss their possible introduction pathways. Finally, we provide some considerations on the potentiality of social media for citizen science projects.

Abstract
Pomadasysincisus is a thermophilous coastal subtropical fish species belonging to the family Haemulidae. Originally described from Gambia, this species is widely distributed in the Eastern Atlantic from Galicia to South Africa. It has also been recorded in the Mediterranean Sea since 1840, presumably expanding its distribution in the next decades, although the species could have been already present in the basin, but simply overlooked until the mid XIX century. In this study, we first record P.incisus from Cyprus (eastern Mediterranean Sea), based on two opportunistic observations obtained through a citizen-science project and review the distribution of this species in the Mediterranean Sea. The present sighting raises the question on whether this species is a late arrival in the country or its presence has just been neglected until now. Based on present data, the most likely hypothesis is the latter one, with P.incisus occurring in low densities and being overlooked due to the absence of field studies. Whatever is true, some intrinsic or extrinsic factors may have played a role in limiting its spread or wide establishment in the above-mentioned country.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cakile maritima scop. (CKM) is a herbaceous plant (Brassicaceae) growing also in high salinity environment. It is an annual plant growing in clumps or mounds in the sand on beaches and bluffs. MATERIALS AND METHODS Stems, seeds, leaves and flowers of CKM were used to obtain 70% of ethanol extracts. The phenolic content of the different extracts was evaluated by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The separation of phytochemical compounds was based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. Radical scavenging activity was determined by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl assay. The qualitative assay for the inhibition of α-glucosidase was quantified spectrophotometrically and the anti-inflammatory activity was determined in the U937 cell line by using gene expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Cell viability assay was done in U937, MM1S, and U266 cells by using the 3-(4,5-Dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide assay. The antimicrobial activity was investigated by MIC determination, "double-triple combinations assay", and growth inhibition curves analysis, using the extracts individually or in various combination. Statistical analysis was performed by the Student's t-test and ANOVA. RESULTS All parts of the plant exhibited a high antioxidant capacity as measured by DPPH assay. Furthermore, all extracts reduced (about 10 folds) the expression of inflammatory cytokines in macrophage following LPS treatment. As regards the antibacterial activity, only the seeds extract was able to inhibit both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria when tested alone, whereas dual combinations of different extracts (leaves, flowers, stems and seeds) caused bacterial inhibition exhibiting a synergic action. Finally, we showed that the extracts did not exhibit cytotoxic effects in normal cells and that, surprisingly, it exhibited an anti-proliferative effect (inhibition ≈80%) in multiple myeloma U266 cells. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests that CKM possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-proliferative activities and such pleiotropic effects may be exploited under various pathological conditions.

Abstract
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fibrotic lung disease with uncertain origins and pathogenesis; it represents the most common interstitial lung disease (ILD), associated with a pathological pattern of usual interstitial pneumonitis (UIP). This disease has a poor prognosis, having the most lethal prognosis among ILDs. In fact, the progressive fibrosis related to IPF could lead to the development of complications, such as acute exacerbation, lung cancer, infections, pneumothorax and pulmonary hypertension. Pneumologists, radiologists and pathologists play a key role in the identification of IPF disease, and in the characterization of its complications-which unfortunately increase disease mortality and reduce overall survival. The early identification of these complications is very important, and requires an integrated approach among specialists, in order to plane the correct treatment. In some cases, the degree of severity of patients having IPF complications may require a personalized approach, based on palliative care services. Therefore, in this paper, we have focused on clinical and radiological features of the complications that occurred in our IPF patients, providing a comprehensive and accurate pictorial essay for clinicians, radiologists and surgeons involved in their management.

Abstract
To evaluate the radiological findings in patients with cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) before steroid treatment and their behavior after therapy, we retrospectively evaluated a total of 22 patients with a diagnosis of COP made by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), biopsy or clinical/radiological features, and the patients were followed between 2014 and 2018 at the hospital; the demographic data, symptoms, radiologic findings, diagnostic methods and treatment plans of patients were collected from patients’ hospital records. At least two CT scans of 22 patients (16 female and six men) were evaluated, the first one before starting steroid therapy and the others after therapy. At baseline CT scans, the most common radiological finding was the presence of consolidations (18/22 patients, 81.8%); ground-glass opacities were also very common (15/25, 68.1%). The other findings were as follows: nodules and masses (5/22, 22.7%), atoll sign (4/22, 18.1%), perilobular pattern (3/22, 13.6%) and parenchymal bands (3/22, 13.6%). Two patients had a significant relapse after reducing/interrupting therapy, while three had a complete resolution and are not currently under therapy (maintenance of clinical remission with no oral corticosteroid (OCS)). In High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scans after therapy, consolidations were still observable in seven patients (five in new areas of the lung-migratory infiltrates), while most of them disappeared, leaving a residual area of ground glass opacity in two patients. One patient had a residual of the perilobular pattern, with the disappearing of the other findings (consolidations and ground-glass opacities). Two patients developed a fibrosing pattern despite the therapy (9.5%). Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia tends to respond to oral corticosteroid treatment, but some patients may have a null or partial response. We highlight the behavior of this disease after proper therapy.

Abstract
Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs) represent a heterogeneous group of pathologies, which may be related to different causes. A low percentage of these lung diseases may be secondary to the administration of drugs or substances. Through the PubMed database, an extensive search was performed in the fields of drug toxicity and interstitial lung disease. We have evaluated the different classes of drugs associated with pulmonary toxicity. Several different high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) patterns related to pulmonary drug toxicity have been reported in literature, and the most frequent ILDs patterns reported include Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonia (NSIP), Usual Interstitial Pneumonia (UIP), Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis (HP), Organizing Pneumonia (OP), Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), and Diffuse Alveolar Damage (DAD). Finally, from the electronic database of our Institute we have selected and commented on some cases of drug-induced lung diseases related to the administration of common drugs. As the imaging patterns are rarely specific, an accurate evaluation of the clinical history is required and a multidisciplinary approach—involving pneumologists, cardiologists, radiologists, pathologists, and rheumatologists—is recommended.

Abstract
In this article, we report for the first time the presence of the parasite Hepatoxylon trichiuri in specimens of Lepidopus caudatus from the Mediterranean Sea. A total of four plerocercoids were studied using microscopy techniques for both morphological and histological analysis. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: We report for the first time for the Mediterranean Sea the presence of the parasite Hepatoxylon trichiuri in specimens of the commercial fish species Lepidopus caudatus. The plerocercoids of H. trichiuri not seems cause observable illness in the fish. However, further studies are needed in order to better assess the incidence and prevalence of the parasite in L. caudatus and other fish species of commercial interest.

Abstract
In recent years, the Mediterranean Sea has become an accumulation zone for waste generated by the 22 countries bordering its shores. Although the effects of plastic litter on the marine environment and on organisms have recently been studied in other areas, further information is needed for the Mediterranean Sea and, in particular, about plastics additives inputs and interactions with the biota and the trophic network, such as phthalates and bisphenol A. Plastic material production, use and disposal contribute also to the release of heavy metals into the environment, such as mercury (Hg), often used during the production of chlorine, the primary ingredient in PVC, lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd), which are used as stabilizers in PVC and leach out of products during use and disposal. Our research aims to evaluate phthalates, bisphenol A and heavy metals contamination in Lepidopus caudatus (Pisces, Trichiuridae), which could be considered as a potential sentinel species. For the evaluation of toxicological effects, we evaluated the expression of vitellogenin and metallothioneins 1. In all samples analyzed, we have not found microplastics in the gastrointestinal tract but chemical analysis revealed the presence of high content of phthalates, and in particular high quantities of DIDP, DEHP, bis-benzylester phthalate, bis-butyl ester phthalate and mono-N-butyl ester phthalate in different organs. Instead, trace elements detected in tissue revealed a trend of concentrations generally higher in liver and intestine than gill and muscle tissues. Immunohistochemical analysis for anti-metallothionein 1 antibody showed a strong positivity of liver cells, both in females and males. Analysis for the anti-vitellogenin antibody showed in females a strong positivity both in the liver cells and in the gonads, in male specimens was found to be always negative except for a specimen, in which it was highlighted a positivity in some areas of the liver and of the gonad.

Abstract
Ophelia roscoffensis Augener, 1910 is an opheliid worm identifiable by the number of anterior abranchiate chaetigers and the number of the gill pairs. Although it was already reported in the Mediterranean Sea, it has never been found in the Italian waters. This study represents the first record of Ophelia roscoffensis in the Italian waters. A total of 18 specimens were collected along the coast of Civitavecchia (Tyrrhenian Sea) in a Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile bed at a depth of 7 m.

Abstract
A dataset including novel and publicly available mtDNA COI sequences of 14 Mediterranean combtooth blenny species belonging to nine genera was assembled in order to provide a reference dataset for DNA barcoding studies. Some inconsistencies in the current taxonomy of some genera were observed. In particular, the monophyly of the genera Parablennius and Salaria is not supported by the present dataset and the absence of reciprocal monophyly between the morphospecies Salaria basilisca and S. pavo questions their status and stresses the need of a revision of the genus Salaria.

Abstract
Goniadella bobrezkii (Annenkova, 1929) is a small goniadid worm identifiable by the number of anterior uniramous parapodia and by the position of the posterior spine-like notochetae arising dorsal to dorsal cirri. Although it was already reported in the Mediterranean Sea, it has never been found in the Italian waters. This study represents the first generic and specific record of G. bobrezkii along Italian coasts. A total of 25 specimens were collected in a Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile bed, depth of 7 m, off Civitavecchia (Rome).

Abstract
Resistance to chemotherapy occurs in various diseases (i.e., cancer and infection), and for this reason, both are very difficult to treat. Therefore, novel antimicrobial and chemotherapic drugs are needed for effective antibiotic therapy. The aim of the present study was to assess the antimicrobial and anti-proliferative effects of skin mucus derived from Dasyatis pastinaca (Linnaeus, 1758). Our results showed that skin mucus exhibited a significant and specific antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria but not against Gram-positive bacteria. Furthermore, we also observed a significant antifungal activity against some strains of Candida spp. Concerning anti-proliferative activity, we showed that fish mucus was specifically toxic for acute leukemia cells (HL60) with an inhibition of proliferation in a dose dependent manner (about 52% at 1000 μg/mL of fish skin mucous, FSM). Moreover, we did not observe effects in healthy cells, in neuroblastoma cells (SH-SY5Y), and multiple myeloma cell lines (MM1, U266). Finally, it exhibited strong expression and activity of chitinase which may be responsible, at least in part, for the aforementioned results.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent of the Hg geochemical anomaly arising in the Amiata and Tolfa complex to the coastal area of northern Latium and to examine the possible influence on this area by the Mignone River, and by the small coastal basins, which are characterized by both previous mining activities and decades of past industrial impact. The results confirm the extension of the anomaly of concentrations of Hg in the coastal area of northern Latium, with the northern sector influenced by the contributions of the Fiora and Mignone Rivers and the southern sector influenced by the contributions of minor basins. The results show high values of the Adverse Effect Index throughout the considered area and highlight the need for further investigation in order to assess the impact of human activities on the present and past values of Hg in marine sediments.

Abstract
This study evaluated the distribution pattern and pollution of chromium, arsenic (As), manganese (Mn), nickel, lead, and copper in surface sediments along the northern Latium coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in Italy. The enrichment factor, geoaccumulation index, and potential toxicity response index were used to evaluate the degree of contamination. These results show As and Mn contamination. The high enrichment and contamination levels of As and Mn are located in two hot spots. These elevations are due to naturally high levels of As and Mn in the Mignone River and the Marangone Stream as well as the intense human activity in the area including the largest energy production site in Europe (Torrevaldaliga Nord coal-fired power plant) and of one of the most important ports for cruise traffic in the Mediterranean Sea.

Microlipophrys adriaticus (Steindachner & Kolombatovic, 1883) is an endemic blenny of the Mediterranean Sea. It is also known from the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. However, unlike other species of combtooth blennies, M. adriaticus is a fish with a limited distribution in Adriatic Sea, especially in the north, where it can be common. We report here the first record of this species from the waters of the Ionian Sea.
