Abstract
The gap in knowledge and information-seeking between high and low socioeconomic status (SES) has been well documented. This study extends this knowledge gap hypothesis to narrative persuasion in the context of parents' knowledge and information-seeking intention concerning adolescents' COVID-19 vaccination. It specifically tests if the gap is moderated by a message type (narrative vs. non-narrative). An online quasi-experiment, with a 2 (participants' education level: high vs. low) × 3 (message type: narrative vs. non-narrative vs. no-message) between-subject design, showed a main effect of education level (i.e., parents with a higher [vs. lower] education level rated a higher intention to seek information and provided more correct answers on questions about adolescents' COVID-19 vaccination) and an interaction between the two factors. The interaction showed that the gap between high- and low-education groups in information-seeking intention disappeared among those who read the narrative or non-narrative, and the gap in knowledge disappeared among those who read the narrative. Study findings suggest the utility of narratives in narrowing the gap in knowledge and information-seeking to improve parents' decisions on child vaccination.

Abstract
Many countries have implemented strict preventive measures and mandatory policies to curb virus transmission during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some have adopted softer approaches, such as nudge-based intervention, to influence public health behavior. This systematic review, conducted following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines, aims to determine if the nudge-based intervention can effectively influence people's preventive behavior during the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The review indicated an overall positive outcome, but results were mixed as nudge-based interventions substantially depended on the situational context. While the review found that the nudging technique that presents and conveys decision-related information was essential to nudging people, a secondary nudge would often applied to deliver the interventions. In addition, there was no indication of an ideal nudge technique that would be effective in most situations. Conversely, our findings indicate that the nudge would likely suffer from habituation after repeated intervention or backfire due to inappropriate use of nudges. Also, the ceiling effect would inhibit any nudge influences regardless of the technique(s) used. In sum, the results and the applicability of nudge-based interventions were mixed, highlighting the need for further research to advance the theory and practical developments.

Abstract
1. The study evaluated the effect of dietary metabolisable energy (ME) content and crude protein (CP) level on the growth performance and behaviour of ducks.2. A total of 720, Cherry Valley ducks were allocated to 36 pens in groups of 20 birds. For the initial period, from 1 to 21 d age, six diets, containing a standard (SME), low (LME) and high (HME) ME of 12.14, 11.93 and 12.35 MJ/kg, and standard (SCP) or high (HCP) CP contents of 210 or 220 g/kg diet, respectively, were mixed. For the period from 22 to 42 d age, the diets contained ME of 12.98 (SME), 12.77 (LME), 13.19 (HME) MJ/kg and the levels of CP were 170 (SCP) or 180 (HCP) g/kg, respectively.3. An ME by CP interaction was seen from 1 to 21 d age in ducks fed HME + HCP diet, which had greater weight gain than those fed LME + SCP (P < 0.05). Compared to LME + SCP, dietary HME decrease feeding but increased walking behaviour compared to LME + SCP and SME + SCP (P < 0.05). High CP in LME and SME diets increased drinking behaviour (P < 0.05), but there was no change in HME diet. Compared to LME, feeding HME reduced ground pecking (P < 0.05). Feeding HME reduced feeding behaviour (P < 0.05) from 22 to 42 d age. During the same period, standing behaviour was reduced in HCP + LME (P < 0.05). Drinking was reduced in LME + SCP compared to SME + HCP and HME + HCP (P < 0.05).4. A diet formulated with HME and HCP is effective for enhancing growth performance of ducks aged 1-21 d and saving time for feeding or ground pecking, which may induce spending more time on other activities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Exposure to benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) may induce disorders in the male reproductive system. However, the molecular mechanisms remain unknown. Here we investigated the effect of BBP on testosterone production and its molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, we also investigated the role of gomisin N (GN) from Schisandra chinensis (S. chinensis) in testosterone synthesis in TM3 Leydig cells. METHOD AND RESULTS First, we examined the effects of BBP on expression levels of testosterone biosynthesis-related genes (StAR, CYP11α1, CYP17α1, 3βHSD, and 17βHSD) and attenuation-related genes (CYP1β1, CYP19α1, and Srd5α1-3). Although testosterone biosynthesis-related genes did not change, attenuation-related genes such as CYP1β1 and CYP19α1 were upregulated with ROS generation and testosterone level attenuation in the presence of 50 µM of BBP. However, the compound with the highest ROS and ONOO- scavenging activity from S. chinensis, GN, significantly reversed the expression of BBP-induced testosterone attenuation-related gene to normal levels. Subsequently, GN improved the testosterone production levels in TM3 Leydig cells. These events may be regulated by the antioxidant effect of GN. CONCLUSIONS On conclusion, our study suggests, for the first time, that BBP impairs testosterone synthesis by the modulation of CYP1β1 and CYP19α1 expression in TM3 cells; GN could potentially minimize the BBP-induced dysfunction of TM3 cells to produce testosterone by suppressing CYP19α1 expression.

Abstract
RATIONALE Countries worldwide faced the same public health crisis that required promoting the same health behavior-vaccinations-during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, scholars have a unique opportunity to test behavioral change theories across countries with different cultural backgrounds. OBJECTIVE Employing the extended theory of social normative behavior, this study examines the influence of individual and collective norms on COVID-19 vaccination intention across eight Asian countries. We examine how cultural tightness-looseness, defined as the degree of a culture's emphasis on norms and tolerance of deviant behavior, shapes normative social influence on COVID-19 vaccination intention. METHODS We conducted a multicountry online survey (N = 2676) of unvaccinated individuals in China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam in May and June 2021, when COVID-19 vaccination mandates had not yet been implemented in those countries. We conducted hierarchical regression analyses with interaction terms for the total sample and then re-categorizied the eight countries as either "tight" (n = 1102) or "loose" (n = 1574) to examine three-way interactions between individual norms, collective norms, and cultural tightness-looseness. RESULTS Perceived injunctive norms exerted the strongest impact of all normative factors on vaccination intention. Collective injunctive norms' influence depended on both perceived injunctive and descriptive norms, which was larger when norms were lower (vs. higher). The interactive pattern between perceived and collective norms was more pronounced in countries with greater cultural tightness. CONCLUSION Our findings reveal nuanced patterns of how individual and collective social norms influence health behavioral decisions, depending on the degree of cultural tightness-looseness.

Abstract
Inflammatory responses are involved in various diseases, such as insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, and hypogonadism. This study investigates the effects of SCE on anti-inflammation and molecular mechanisms in LPS-induced macrophages. RAW 264.7 macrophage cells were treated with LPS for 24 hr, followed by SCE, schisandrin C (Sch C) (1, 10, and 100 μM), and gomisin N (GN) (1, 10, and 100 μM) for 24 hr. Gene expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines were measured by qPCR. Protein expression of NLPR3 inflammasome was examined by western blot analysis. The expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, and TNFα, were significantly reduced after SCE treatment. Sch C significantly inhibits these pro-inflammatory cytokines, while GN suppresses only IL6. Furthermore, Sch C significantly prevented the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome complexes such as NLRP3 and caspase-1. Sch C is the major active compound of SCE on anti-inflammation through attenuation of NLRP3 inflammasome.

Abstract
Mori Folium (Morus alba leaf, MF) and Mori Cortex Radicis (Morus alba root cortex, MR) have been studied for their anti-obesity effects by enhancing the browning process and inhibiting adipogenesis. However, important aspects of their protective mechanisms have not been thoroughly investigated, which could aid in developing functional food. Thus, this study aims to determine the synergistic effects of MF and MR against obesity and its associated mechanisms. In an in vitro cell culture model of brown adipocytes, a 1:1 mixture of MF and MR showed a synergistic effect on the expression of brown adipocyte-specific genes, including Ucp-1, Ppargc1a, Cbp/p300-interacting transactivator (Cited), Prdm16, Tbx1, and Fgf21 compared with either MF- or MR-treated conditions. Moreover, they demonstrated the involvement of cAMP and Ca2+ in induction of brown adipocyte-specific genes. In an in vivo model using HFD-fed mice, MF/MR significantly inhibited weight gain, plasma cholesterol, LDL, TG content, fat mass, and adipocyte size. Furthermore, MF/MR inhibited morphological alteration and the expressions of fatty acid synthesis genes such as Srebp1 and Fasn in the white adipose tissue. Thermogenesis genes were recovered in the brown adipose tissue with MF/MR supplementation, indicating that MF/MR regulated adipocytic dysmetabolism where AMPK signaling is involved. In conclusion, these results suggested that MF/MR regulates brown and beige adipocyte processes, providing one of the preventive functional food/herbal medicines against obesity and its associated metabolic diseases.

Abstract
Activating brown adipose tissue (BAT) and stimulating white adipose tissue (WAT) browning is a prospective obesity treatment method. Dietary components derived from plants are the most effective approach to activate BAT and promote WAT browning in rodents. This study investigated the synergistic effects of Panax ginseng (PG) and Diospyros kaki leaf (DKL) extract on adipocyte differentiation and browning, as well as the molecular mechanism underlying their beneficial effects. The administration of PG and DKL to HFD-induced obese mice significantly decreased body weight and epididymal and abdominal adipose tissue mass. In in vitro, PG inhibited the adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 adipocytes by regulating the expression of key adipogenic regulators, such as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)γ and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein (C/EBP)-α. In contrast, DKL negligibly influenced the adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 adipocytes but greatly increased the protein expression of UCP-1, PGC-1α, and PPARα in BAT and/or WAT. Moreover, PG and DKL inhibited adipogenesis synergistically and activated white adipocyte browning via AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) pathways. These results suggest that a combination of PG and DKL regulates adipogenesis in white adipocytes and browning in brown adipocytes by activating AMPK/SIRT1 axis. The potential use of PG and DKL may represent an important strategy in obesity management that will be safer and more effective.

Abstract
This study sought to examine the potential role of news avoidance in belief in COVID-19 misinformation. Using two-wave panel survey data in Singapore, we found that information overload is associated with news fatigue as well as with difficulty in analyzing information. News fatigue and analysis paralysis also subsequently led to news avoidance, which increased belief in COVID-19 misinformation. However, this link is present only among those who are frequently exposed to misinformation about COVID-19.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Male hypogonadism is a condition where the body does not produce enough testosterone and significantly impacts health. Age, obesity, genetics, and oxidative stress are some physiological factors that may contribute to testosterone deficiency. Previous studies have shown many pharmacological benefits of Schisandra chinensis (S. chinensis) Baillon as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. However, the molecular mechanism of attenuating hypogonadism is yet to be well established. This research was undertaken to study the effects of S. chinensis extract (SCE) on testosterone deficiency. MATERIALS/METHODS S. chinensis fruit was pulverized and extracted using 60% aqueous ethanol. HPLC analysis was performed to analyze and quantify the lignans of the SCE. RESULTS The 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) scavenging assays confirmed that the SCE and its major lignans (schisandrol A and gomisin N) inhibit oxidative stress. Effects of SCE analysis on the testosterone level under oxidative stress conditions revealed that both schisandrol A and gomisin N were able to recover the lowered testosterone levels. Through mRNA expression of TM3 Leydig cell, we observed that the SCE lignans were able to induce the enzymes involved in testosterone biosynthesis-related genes such as 3β-HSD4 (P < 0.01 for SCE, and P < 0.001 for schisandrol A and gomisin N), 17β-HSD3 (P < 0.001 for SCE, schisandrol A and gomisin N), and 17, 20-desmolase (P < 0.01 for schisandrol A, and P < 0.001 for SCE and gomisin N). CONCLUSIONS These results support that SCE and its active components could be potential therapeutic agents for regulating and increasing testosterone production.

Abstract
In a public health crisis, communication plays a vital role in making sure policies and recommendations from the government level get disseminated accurately to its people and is only considered as effective when the public accepts, supports, complies to, and engages in policies or behaves as per governments' recommendations. Adopting the multivariate audience segmentation strategy for health communication, this study uses a data-driven analytical method to (1) identify audience segments of public health crisis communication in Singapore based on knowledge, risk perception, emotional responses, and preventive behaviors; and (2) characterize each audience segment according to demographic factors, personality traits, information processing styles, and health information preferences. Results (N = 2033) from a web-based questionnaire executed in August 2021 have identified three audience segments: the less-concerned (n = 650), the risk-anxious (n = 142), and the risk-majority (n = 1,241). This study offers insights to how audiences of public health crisis communication perceive, process, and respond to information directed to them during the pandemic, thereby informing policy makers to tailor more targeted public health communication interventions in promoting positive attitude and behavior change.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
It is unclear whether and how diabetes mellitus may aggravate myocardial fibrosis and remodeling in the pressure-overloaded heart. We investigated the impact of diabetes on the prognosis of aortic stenosis (AS) patients and its underlying mechanisms using comprehensive noninvasive imaging studies and plasma proteomics.
Methods
Severe AS patients undergoing both echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) (n=253 of which 66 had diabetes) comprised the imaging cohort. The degree of replacement and diffuse interstitial fibrosis by late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) was quantified using CMR. Plasma samples were analyzed with the multiplex proximity extension assay for 92 proteomic biomarkers in a separate biomarker cohort of severe AS patients (n=100 of which 27 had diabetes).
Results
In the imaging cohort, diabetic patients were older (70.4±6.8 vs. 66.7±10.1 years) and had a higher prevalence of ischemic heart disease (28.8% vs. 9.1%), with more advanced ventricular diastolic dysfunction. On CMR, diabetic patients had increased replacement and diffuse interstitial fibrosis (LGE% 0.3 [0.0–1.6] versus 0.0 [0.0–0.5], p=0.009; ECV% 27.9 [25.7–30.1] versus 26.7 [24.9–28.5], p=0.025) (Figure 1).
Plasma proteomics analysis of the biomarker cohort revealed that 9 proteins (E-selectin, interleukin-1 receptor type 1, interleukin-1 receptor type 2, galectin-4, intercellular adhesion molecule 2, integrin beta-2, galectin-3, growth differentiation factor 15, and cathepsin D) are significantly elevated in diabetic AS patients (Figure 2). Pathway over-representation analyses of the plasma proteomics with Gene Ontology terms indicated that pathways related to inflammatory response and extracellular matrix components were enriched, suggesting that diabetes is associated with systemic effects that evoke proinflammatory and profibrotic response to the pressure-overloaded myocardium.
During follow-up (median 6.3 years [IQR 5.2–7.2]) of the imaging cohort, 232 patients received aortic valve replacement (AVR) with 53 unexpected heart failure admissions or death. Diabetes was a significant predictor of heart failure and death, independent of clinical covariates and AVR (hazard ratio 1.88, 95% confidence interval 1.06–3.31, p=0.030).
Conclusion
Plasma proteomic analyses indicate that diabetes potentiates the systemic proinflammatory and profibrotic milieu in AS patients. These systemic biological changes underlie the increase of myocardial fibrosis, diastolic dysfunction, and worse clinical outcomes in severe AS patients with concomitant diabetes.

Abstract
In bee venoms, low-molecular-weight peptides, including serine protease inhibitors (SPIs), exhibit multifunctional activities. Although SPIs in bee venoms are relatively well known, those that function in both the body and secreted venom of bees are not well-characterized. In this study, we identified a bumblebee (Bombus ignitus) SPI (BiSPI) that displays microbicidal and anti-fibrinolytic activities. BiSPI was found to consist of a trypsin inhibitor-like domain containing a P1 site and ten cysteine residues. We observed that the BiSPI gene was ubiquitously transcribed in the body, including the venom glands. In correlation, the BiSPI protein was detected both in the body and secreted venom by using an antibody against a recombinant BiSPI peptide produced in baculovirus-infected insect cells. Recombinant BiSPI exhibited inhibitory activity against trypsin but not chymotrypsin and inhibited microbial serine proteases and plasmin but not elastase or thrombin. Moreover, recombinant BiSPI recognized carbohydrates and bound to fungi and gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Consistent with these properties, recombinant BiSPI exhibited microbicidal activities against bacteria and fungi through induction of structural damage by binding to the microbial surfaces. Additionally, recombinant BiSPI inhibited the plasmin-mediated degradation of human fibrin and was thus concluded to exhibit anti-fibrinolytic activity. Moreover, the peptide showed no effect on hemolysis. These findings demonstrate the dual function of BiSPI, which acts as a microbicidal peptide and anti-fibrinolytic venom toxin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Wearable inertial devices integrated with modelling and cloud computing have been widely adopted in the sports sector, however, their use in the health and medical field has yet to be fully realised. To date, there have been no reported studies concerning the use of wearables as a surrogate tool to monitor knee joint loading during recovery following a total knee joint replacement. The objective of this study is to firstly evaluate if peak tibial acceleration from wearables during gait is a good surrogate metric for computer modelling predicted functional knee loading; and secondly evaluate if traditional clinical patient related outcomes measures are consistent with wearable predictions. METHODS Following ethical approval, four healthy participants were used to establish the relationship between computer modelling predicted knee joint loading and wearable measured tibial acceleration. Following this, ten patients who had total knee joint replacements were then followed during their 6-week rehabilitation. Gait analysis, wearable acceleration, computer models of knee joint loading, and patient related outcomes measures including the Oxford knee score and range of motion were recorded. RESULTS A linear correlation (R2 of 0.7-0.97) was observed between peak tibial acceleration (from wearables) and musculoskeletal model predicted knee joint loading during gait in healthy participants first. Whilst patient related outcome measures (Oxford knee score and patient range of motion) were observed to improve consistently during rehabilitation, this was not consistent with all patient's tibial acceleration. Only those patients that exhibited increasing peak tibial acceleration over 6-weeks rehabilitation were positively correlated with the Oxford knee score (R2 of 0.51 to 0.97). Wearable predicted tibial acceleration revealed three patients with a consistent knee loading, five patients with improving knee loading, and two patients with declining knee loading during recovery. Hence, 20% of patients did not present with satisfactory joint loading following total knee joint replacement and this was not detected with current patient related outcome measures. CONCLUSIONS The use of inertial measurement units or wearables in this study provided additional insight into patients who were not exhibiting functional improvements in joint loading, and offers clinicians an 'off-site' early warning metric to identify potential complications during recovery and provide the opportunity for early intervention. This study has important implications for improving patient outcomes, equity, and for those who live in rural regions.

Abstract
This study used two randomized experiments in a prospective design (Study 1 N = 297, Study 2 N = 296) to examine how multilevel causal attribution dimensions (internal vs. external to an individual or a country) shape domestic and foreign policy support to counter transboundary risk. Results from Study 1 and 2 showed that external-country (vs. internal-country) causal attribution reduced perceptions of internal-country attributions of responsibility, which had a cross-lagged effect on support for domestic-industry policies to mitigate the risk. In contrast, perceptions of external-country attributions of responsibility increased support for foreign policies in a 2-week follow up. This study offers theoretical insights into the demarcation of multilevel causal attribution dimensions in studying media framing effects. It also highlights some important causal mechanisms of how media frames shape public support for policies aimed at transboundary risk mitigation.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the effects of an advanced practice nurse-led psychoeducational program on distress, anxiety, depression, coping with cancer (CWC), health promotion behavior (HPB), and quality of life (QOL) among colorectal cancer survivors. METHODS This study was designed as a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest. The participants were survivors of colorectal cancer who underwent follow-up care. There were 39 survivors: 19 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. The experimental group performed a psychoeducational program for 120 minutes per session, once a week for a total of six weeks, while the control group received routine education and counseling. Distress, anxiety, depression, CWC, HPB, and QOL were investigated before, immediately after, and 4 weeks after the intervention. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN ver. 24.0, using repeated measures ANOVA. RESULTS There were significant interactions between time and group for distress and anxiety. In addition, CWC interacted with the total of CWC and interpersonal coping, and QOL interacted with the total of QOL and functional status. However, there were no significant differences in the depression or HPB scores. CONCLUSION Based on the results of this study, we expect that this program can be used as an effective intervention for colorectal cancer survivors.

Abstract
This study examined how exposure to government health advisories on face mask-wearing and trust in government influenced people's compliance with the advisory overtime. We conducted a three-wave panel survey (N = 1,024; T1 in February, T2 in March, T3 in April 2020) in Singapore, where the government initially enforced wearing a face mask conditional on feeling sick, and then later revised its advisory to make mask-wearing mandatory regardless of sickness. Exposure to the initial advisory at T1 had cross-lagged effects on forming positive expectancy, normative, and self-efficacy beliefs on conditional face mask-wearing at T2. Government trust at T1 also had a cross-lagged effect on increasing supportive perceived norm for conditional mask-wearing, while reducing positive expectancy of nonconditional mask-wearing at T2. Exposure to the revised advisory and government trust at T3 were positively associated with outcome expectancy, perceived norm, and self-efficacy regardless of behavior type. Regarding nonconditional mask-wearing, the autoregressive links from T2 to T3 were insignificant for perceived norm and self-efficacy and even negatively significant for intention and behavior. This study offers theoretical and practical insights by documenting the complex and dynamic processes involved in health decision-making during a novel disease pandemic.

Abstract
The chemokine receptor CCR9 equips T cells with the ability to respond to CCL25, a chemokine that is highly expressed in the thymus and the small intestine (SI). Notably, CCR9 is mostly expressed on CD8 but not on CD4 lineage T cells, thus imposing distinct tissue tropism on CD4 and CD8 T cells. The molecular basis and the consequences for such a dichotomy, however, have not been fully examined and explained. Here, we demonstrate that the forced expression of CCR9 interferes with the tissue trafficking and differentiation of CD4 T cells in SI intraepithelial tissues. While CCR9 overexpression did not alter CD4 T cell generation in the thymus, the forced expression of CCR9 was detrimental for the proper tissue distribution of CD4 T cells in the periphery, and strikingly also for their terminal differentiation in the gut epithelium. Specifically, the differentiation of SI epithelial CD4 T cells into immunoregulatory CD4+CD8αα+ T cells was impaired by overexpression of CCR9 and conversely increased by the genetic deletion of CCR9. Collectively, our results reveal a previously unappreciated role for CCR9 in the tissue homeostasis and effector function of CD4 T cells in the gut.

Abstract
News media can influence citizens' health beliefs about COVID-19 and eventually their vaccination intention. However, existing literature has rarely investigated how such effect is contingent upon a country-level factor: press freedom. Situated in the Health Belief Model, this study draws upon a multi-national survey (N = 3,599), involving 10 major cities in Asia to address the research gap. Results showed that news exposure has a positive effect on personal health beliefs on COVID-19, affecting their vaccination intention. More interestingly, the relationship between news exposure and personal health beliefs about COVID-19 was negatively moderated by level of press freedom - that is, the relationship between news exposure and personal health beliefs is stronger in cities that belong to countries with low levels of press freedom.

Abstract
There exist two distinctive hypotheses on the relationship between perceived risk and protection behavior: the behavioral motivation hypothesis (i.e., a higher risk perception motivates protection behaviors) and the risk reappraisal hypothesis (i.e., protection behaviors reduce perceived risk). To test these competing hypotheses, we examined how risk perception, behavioral intention, and behavior are affected by conditional risk information. In a two-wave panel experiment conducted online in South Korea (Time 1 N = 450; Time 2 N = 276), we manipulated the risk level (high vs. low) of gum disease in a health message both for the inaction of the recommended preventive behavior (flossing) and for the action of the behavior. The results showed that information about high (vs. low) inaction conditional risk indirectly led to greater flossing intention via changing inaction risk perception. In contrast, information about high (vs. low) action conditional risk increased action risk perception, which was negatively linked to flossing intention. Greater inaction risk perception at Time 1 significantly increased actual flossing behavior at Time 2. The decrease in risk perception between Time 1 (inaction conditional) and Time 2 (unconditional) was greater with increasing intentions at Time 1 and with actual behavioral engagement between Time 1 and Time 2. The findings of this study supported both the behavioral motivation hypothesis and the risk reappraisal hypothesis.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic poses an unprecedented threat to global human wellbeing, and the proliferation of online misinformation during this critical period amplifies the challenge. This study examines consequences of exposure to online misinformation about COVID-19 preventions. Using a three-wave panel survey involving 1,023 residents in Singapore, the study found that exposure to online misinformation prompts engagement in self-reported misinformed behaviors such as eating more garlic and regularly rinsing nose with saline, while discouraging evidence-based prevention behaviors such as social distancing. This study further identifies information overload and misperception on prevention as important mechanisms that link exposure to online misinformation and these outcomes. The effects of misinformation exposure differ by individuals' eheath literacy level, suggesting the need for a health literacy education to minimize the counterproductive effects of misinformation online. This study contributes to theory-building in misinformation by addressing potential pathways of and disparity in its possible effects on behavior.

Abstract
This study examined the effects of gender-specific pictorial health warning labels contingent on their intended gender and threat levels (for females) in forming anti-smoking intentions. We conducted a within-subject design experiment with smokers and nonsmokers in Singapore (N = 100, 50% men). Each participant viewed 10 warning labels-four female-specific (high and low threat), four gender-neutral (high and low threat), and two male-specific (only low threat)-in a random order, evaluating each label on personal relevance, attention, cognitive elaboration, reactance, and intentions to purchase or avoid smoking. The findings showed that females reported greater relevance, attention, elaboration, and intentions to avoid smoking for low threat female-specific warning labels than male-specific or gender-neutral counterparts. Males reported less attention, elaboration, and relevance for low threat male-specific warning labels than female-specific or gender-neutral counterparts. Under high threat conditions, female-specific and gender-neutral warning labels were equally effective for both genders. No differences were observed by smoking status. Overall, gender-specific warning labels are potentially more effective than gender-neutral ones for deterring smoking in women contingent on low threat levels. By providing a deeper understanding of persuasive mechanisms and boundary conditions for the effects of gender specificity, findings can aid health policymakers in developing better gender-responsive interventions.

Abstract
Understanding the homeostatic mechanism of invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells is a critical issue in iNKT cell biology. Because interleukin (IL)-15 is required for the thymic generation of iNKT cells, IL-15 has also been considered necessary for the homeostasis of peripheral iNKT cells. Here, we delineated the in vivo cytokine requirement for iNKT cells, and we came to the surprising conclusion that IL-7, not IL-15, is the homeostatic cytokine for iNKT cells. Employing a series of experimental mouse models where the availability of IL-7 or IL-15 was manipulated in peripheral tissues, either by genetic tools or by adult thymectomy and cytokine pump installation, we demonstrate that the abundance of IL-7, and not IL-15, limits the size of the peripheral iNKT cell pool. These results redefine the cytokine requirement for iNKT cells and indicate competition for IL-7 between iNKT and conventional αβ T cells.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Patients with HIV/AIDS have been able to experience the average life expectancy of the general population due to medical advancements. However, they face physical, emotional and social difficulties that worsen their quality of life. The pharmacological approach is often the first choice to address these issues, but it involves some limitations. Integrative traditional East Asian medicine (ITEAM) can compensate for the limitations of drugs and can be applied to treat physiological and psychiatric problems. In Korea, ITEAM interventions are easily accessible under the government insurance. However, the experiences, perceptions and barriers to the use of ITEAM in patients with HIV/AIDS are less studied. Therefore, we will interview them to explore their experiences and examine the strengths, limitations, barriers and improvements in the use of ITEAM. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This is a qualitative study using a phenomenological framework. We will conduct one-to-one interviews with 3-10 patients with HIV/AIDS who have been treated with ITEAM from March 2021 to January 2022. We will present semistructured open-ended questions and analyse them using experiential phenomenological research methods. The results will be reported in accordance with the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Studies. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This research was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the National Medical Center (IRB number, NMC-2101-008). The results of this study will be disseminated through journal articles, newspapers and conference proceedings. Abstract
BACKGROUND We investigated the change of coronary atherosclerosis with long-term exposure to fine particulate matter of aerodynamic diameter <2.5 μm (PM2.5) using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). METHODS Subjects undergoing serial CCTAs between January 2007 and December 2017 (n = 3,127) were analyzed. Each individual's cumulative amount of PM2.5 exposure between the two CCTAs was evaluated by Kriging interpolation and zonal analysis, considering the time interval between the two CCTAs. The main outcome was progression of coronary artery calcium (CAC) with additional semiquantitative analysis on the changes in the severity and composition of atherosclerotic plaques. RESULTS The CAC scores increased by 30.8 Agatston units per-year under a median PM2.5 concentration 24.9 μg/m3 and tended to increase with the cumulative amount of PM2.5 exposure (r = 0.321, p <0.001). The CAC progressed in 1,361 (43.5%) subjects during a median 53 months follow-up. The cumulative amount of PM2.5 exposure was independently associated with CAC progression (adjusted OR 1.09, p <0.001). By random forest analysis, the relative impact of cumulative amount of PM2.5 exposure on CAC progression was higher than that of traditional cardiovascular risk factors and the average concentration of PM2.5. The extent of coronary atherosclerosis and newly developed calcified plaque on follow-up were also significantly associated with the cumulative amount of PM2.5 exposure. CONCLUSIONS Cumulative exposure to air pollution is associated with the progression of diffuse coronary calcification, the importance of which may be more significant than other traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Further investigations into the causality between PM2.5 and coronary atherosclerosis are warranted to improve global cardiovascular health.

Abstract
Aim Acute appendicitis (AA) is a common indication for abdominal surgery, with more than 30,000 appendicectomies performed in England per year. However, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) changed usual surgical practices following advice to minimise laparoscopic surgery, and instead favouring conservative management, or open surgery for AA. Method In this study, we compared the management of 50 patients with suspected/confirmed AA during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic at a district general hospital (DGH) with our usual practices, against 50 patients admitted with suspected/confirmed AA during a similar time period, one year prior to the pandemic. Results Demographics of patients in both groups were comparable with median age of 34 in the pandemic vs 32.5 in the pre-pandemic group. 74% of patients in the pandemic group (PG) underwent imaging to confirm appendicitis, compared to 58% of patients in the pre-pandemic group (PPG). 64% of PG patients were treated conservatively, compared to 8% in PPG patients. Outcomes demonstrated re-attendance events of 12% in the PG, as compared to 10% in the PPG, although the follow up period was longer in the PPG. Despite a significantly smaller number of patients managed surgically during the pandemic, 27% of patients undergoing appendicectomies had post-operative complications in the PG, as compared to 7% in the PPG. Conclusions During the pandemic, more patients at our DGH with AA were treated conservatively, more patients had re-attendance events and post-operative complications when compared to patients in the pre-pandemic group.

Abstract
This study examines the emotional mechanisms of how public trust in the governments' actions to address the COVID-19 pandemic shapes individuals' risk information-seeking and avoidance. To make cross-cultural comparisons, we conducted a multi-country survey early in the pandemic in South Korea, the United States (US) and Singapore. The results suggest that trust was negatively related to fear, anger, sadness and anxiety, and positively related to hope. These emotions were significant mediators of the effect of trust on information seeking and avoidance, except for anger on avoidance. Importantly, the indirect effects of trust in government varied by country. Fear was a stronger mediator between trust and information seeking in South Korea than in the US. In contrast, sadness and anger played more prominent mediating roles in Singapore than in South Korea. This study offers theoretical insights into better understanding the roles of discrete emotions in forming information behaviors. The findings of this study also inform communication strategies that seek to navigate trust in managing pandemics that impact multiple nations.

Study question
When is the optimal timing of day 6 (D6) blastocyst transfer between the 6thday (P6)and the 7th(P7) day of progesterone administration in artificially prepared frozen-thawed embryo transfer(FET) cycle
Summary answer
When transferring D6 blastocysts in artificially prepared FET cycles, live birth rate tended to be higher in P6 group than in P7 group.
What is known already
Blastocyst transfer in FET cycles has increased due to several reasons including convenience for optimization of endometrial synchronization, improvement of laboratory techniques and preimplantation genetic testing. Meanwhile, D6 blastocyst which cryopreserved on day 6 after being developed to the full blastocyst stage, presented lower pregnancy outcomes in FET cycle than D5 blastocysts. However, there have been few studies on the optimal duration of progesterone administration when transferring D6 blastocysts.
Study design, size, duration
This was a retrospective cohort study including patients who underwent frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer in artificially prepared cycles from January 2000 to May 2020. Patients with D6 blastocyst transfer on the 6th day of progesterone administration were included in D6-P6 group, and patients with D6 blastocyst transfer on the 7th day of progesterone administration were included in D6-P7 group.
Participants/materials, setting, methods
Increasing dose of estradiol valerate was administered from the 3rd day of menstruation: 4 mg/day for the first four days, 6 mg/day for next four days, and then 8 mg/day until the confirmation of pregnancy. Progesterone was administered from the 14th day of menstruation if the endometrial thickness reached ≥7 mm. The independent t-test or Mann-Whitney test, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis were performed.
Main results and the role of chance
A total of 50 patients were included, and 13 patients underwent FET on P6 and 37 patients underwent FET on P7. Live birth rate was comparable between the P6 group and the P7 group (18.9% vs. 15.4%, p = 0.775). Live birth rate was higher in the D6-P6 group than in the D6-P7 group after adjusting for age, AMH, endometrial thickness on the starting day of progesterone administration and good embryo rate transferred with statistical significance (OR: 6.716, p = 0.005).
Limitations, reasons for caution
Limitations of the present study is the retrospective design and the small sample size. Caution is needed in extrapolating results of this study because only intramural and vaginal progesterone supplementations were included in this study.
Wider implications of the findings: Even if the duration of blastocyst formation was delayed, frozen-thawed D6 blastocyst may need to be considered for on P6 rather than P7. The difference of live birth rate is not statistically significant. This study should be acknowledged for the underestimation of the difference because of the small sample size.

Abstract
This research aims to better understand cultural disparities in cancer prevention behaviors. To do this, we investigate how four cultural beliefs - optimism, pessimism, naïve dialecticism, and superstition - associate with cancer fatalism, which has been recognized as a major barrier to cancer prevention behaviors. Based on an online survey of 1,021 Singapore residents, the results reveal that cancer fatalism is positively associated with pessimism, naïve dialecticism and superstitions, and associated negatively with optimism. Mediation analyses further reveal that cancer fatalism is a significant mediator between these four cultural beliefs and four cancer prevention behaviors including fruit and vegetable intake, regular exercise, avoidance of smoking, and sunscreen use. This study offers theoretical insights into the understanding of how people develop cancer fatalism and practical guidance on the promotion of cancer prevention behaviors, particularly among Asian populations.

Abstract
Invariant NKT (iNKT) cells are thymus-generated innate-like T cells, comprised of three distinct subsets with divergent effector functions. The molecular mechanism that drives the lineage trifurcation of immature iNKT cells into the NKT1, NKT2, and NKT17 subsets remains a controversial issue that remains to be resolved. Because cytokine receptor signaling is necessary for iNKT cell generation, cytokines are proposed to contribute to iNKT subset differentiation also. However, the precise roles and requirements of cytokines in these processes are not fully understood. Here, we show that IL-2Rβ, a nonredundant component of the IL-15 receptor complex, plays a critical role in both the development and differentiation of thymic iNKT cells. While the induction of IL-2Rβ expression on postselection thymocytes is necessary to drive the generation of iNKT cells, surprisingly, premature IL-2Rβ expression on immature iNKT cells was detrimental to their development. Moreover, while IL-2Rβ is necessary for NKT1 generation, paradoxically, we found that the increased abundance of IL-2Rβ suppressed NKT1 generation without affecting NKT2 and NKT17 cell differentiation. Thus, the timing and abundance of IL-2Rβ expression control iNKT lineage fate and development, thereby establishing cytokine receptor expression as a critical regulator of thymic iNKT cell differentiation.

Abstract
Polygonum cuspidatum (PC) has been used as traditional Korean medicine to treat various diseases including asthma, hypertension, cancer, and arteriosclerosis. In this study, we assessed the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of PC ethanol extract. Persistent antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans for up to 23 days was observed when the extract was used at a concentration of 10 mg/mL. The minimum inhibitory concentration of PC against S. mutans was 0.2 mg/mL and the minimum bactericidal concentration was 10 mg/mL. We compared the antimicrobial activities of S. mutagens cultured with or without PC. Bacterial activity was observed only in the group where RE was not added. The anti-inflammatory effect of PC on RAW264.7 cells was assessed using the MTT assay; changes in nitric oxide (NO) production and inflammatory cytokine levels (tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α and interleukin [IL]-6) were measured in the presence of PC. In lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW264.7 cells, PC inhibited NO production by 68.6% when used at a concentration of 50 µg/mL. The expression of TNF-α and IL-6 was reduced by PC in a concentration-dependent manner. These results suggest that the ethanol extract of PC could be used as a mouthwash component with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

Abstract
Gui-A-Gra, a commercial insect powder from Gryllus bimaculatus, is registered as an edible insect by the Korean food and drug administration. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Gui-A-Gra on testicular damage induced by experimental left varicocele in male Sprague Dawley rats. A total of 72 rats were randomly divided into the following six groups (12 rats in each group): a normal control group (CTR), a group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 1.63 gm/kg (G1.63), a group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 6.5 gm/kg (G6.5), a varicocele (VC)-induced control group (VC), a VC-induced group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 1.63 gm/kg (VC + G1.63), and a VC-induced group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 6.5 gm/kg (VC + G6.5). Rats were administrated 1.63 or 6.5 gm/kg Gui-A-Gra once daily for 42 days. Indicators of sperm parameters, histopathology, reproductive hormones, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, inflammation, and mitochondrial apoptosis were analyzed to evaluate effects of Gui-A-Gra on VC-induced testicular dysfunction. Gui-A-Gra administration to VC-induced rats significantly (p < 0.05) increased sperm count and sperm motility, Johnsen score, spermatogenic cell density, serum testosterone, testicular superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase, GPx4, and steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) level. Moreover, pretreatment with Gui-A-Gra significantly (p < 0.05) decreased terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) positive cells/tubules, serum luteinizing hormone (LH), serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), testicular tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), malondialdehyde (MDA), reactive oxygen species (ROS)/reactive nitrogen species (RNS) level, glucose-regulated protein-78 (Grp-78), phosphorylated c-Jun-N-terminal kinase (p-JNK), phosphorylated inositol-requiring transmembrane kinase/endoribonuclease 1α (p-IRE1α), cleaved caspase-3, and BCL2 associated X protein: B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bax: Bcl2) ratio in VC rats. These results suggest that protective effects of Gui-A-Gra on VC-induced testicular injury might be due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and androgenic activities that might be mediated via crosstalk of oxidative stress, ER stress, and mitochondrial apoptosis pathway.

Abstract
We examined the implications of exposure to misinformation about COVID-19 in the United States, South Korea, and Singapore in the early stages of the global pandemic. The online survey results showed that misinformation exposure reduced information insufficiency, which subsequently led to greater information avoidance and heuristic processing, as well as less systematic processing of COVID-19 information. Indirect effects differ by country and were stronger in the U.S. sample than in the Singapore sample. This study highlights negative consequences of misinformation during a global pandemic and addresses possible cultural and situational differences in how people interpret and respond to misinformation.

Abstract
A 14-day quarantine is implemented in many countries in response to the coronavirus disease pandemic. Korea implemented a mandatory quarantine for those who had close contact with infected patients and those returning from abroad. The present study explored the implications of mandatory coronavirus disease 2019 testing before releasing individuals from the 14-day quarantine in Incheon, Korea. From February 11 to July 5, 2020, 19,296 people were self-quarantined, and 56 (0.3%) of them were confirmed cases of COVID-19. Twenty (35.7%) were identified through the reporting of symptoms during quarantine, and 32 (57.1%) were identified using mandatory pre-release RT-PCR tests. Among the 32, 14 (25%) individuals reported mild symptoms and 18 (32.1%) were asymptomatic. It is suggested that mandatory diagnostic testing prior to release and the symptom-based surveillance after the 14-day quarantine may help control delayed or asymptomatic COVID-19 cases.

Abstract
PURPOSE To study and compare the efficacy of different therapeutic options for the treatment of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). METHODS This is a nonrandomized, international multicentre study on 1719 patients (1861 eyes) diagnosed with CSCR, from 63 centres (24 countries). Reported data included different methods of treatment and both results of diagnostic examinations [fluorescein angiography and/or optical coherent tomography (OCT)] and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) before and after therapy. The duration of observation had a mean of 11 months but was extended in a minority of cases up to 7 years. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the different therapeutic options of CSCR in terms of both visual (BCVA) and anatomic (OCT) improvement. RESULTS One thousand seven hundred nineteen patients (1861 eyes) diagnosed with CSCR were included. Treatments performed were nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory eye drops, laser photocoagulation, micropulse diode laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy (PDT; Standard PDT, Reduced-dose PDT, Reduced-fluence PDT), intravitreal (IVT) antivascular endothelial growth factor injection (VEGF), observation and other treatments. The list of the OTHERS included both combinations of the main proposed treatments or a variety of other treatments such as eplerenone, spironolactone, acetazolamide, beta-blockers, anti-anxiety drugs, aspirin, folic acid, methotrexate, statins, vitis vinifera extract medication and pars plana vitrectomy. The majority of the patients were men with a prevalence of 77%. The odds ratio (OR) showed a partial or complete resolution of fluid on OCT with any treatment as compared with observation. In univariate analysis, the anatomical result (improvement in subretinal fluid using OCT at 1 month) was favoured by age <60 years (p < 0.005), no previous observation (p < 0.0002), duration less than 3 months (p < 0.0001), absence of CSCR in the fellow eye (p = 0.04), leakage outside of the arcade (p = 0.05) and fluid height >500 μm (p = 0.03). The OR for obtaining partial or complete resolution showed that anti-VEGF and eyedrops were not statistically significant; whereas PDT (8.5), thermal laser (11.3) and micropulse laser (8.9) lead to better anatomical results with less variability. In univariate analysis, the functional result at 1 month was favoured by first episode (p = 0.04), height of subretinal fluid >500 μm (p < 0.0001) and short duration of observation (p = 0.02). Finally, there was no statistically significant difference among the treatments at 12 months. CONCLUSION Spontaneous resolution has been described in a high percentage of patients. Laser (micropulse and thermal) and PDT seem to lead to significant early anatomical improvement; however, there is little change beyond the first month of treatment. The real visual benefit needs further clarification.

Abstract
We describe the epidemiology of a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in a call center in South Korea. We obtained information on demographic characteristics by using standardized epidemiologic investigation forms. We performed descriptive analyses and reported the results as frequencies and proportions for categoric variables. Of 1,143 persons who were tested for COVID-19, a total of 97 (8.5%, 95% CI 7.0%-10.3%) had confirmed cases. Of these, 94 were working in an 11th-floor call center with 216 employees, translating to an attack rate of 43.5% (95% CI 36.9%-50.4%). The household secondary attack rate among symptomatic case-patients was 16.2% (95% CI 11.6%- 22.0%). Of the 97 persons with confirmed COVID-19, only 4 (1.9%) remained asymptomatic within 14 days of quarantine, and none of their household contacts acquired secondary infections. Extensive contact tracing, testing all contacts, and early quarantine blocked further transmission and might be effective for containing rapid outbreaks in crowded work settings.

Abstract
It is well established that physiological stress has an adverse effect on the male reproductive system. Experimental studies have demonstrated the promising effects of MOTILIPERM in male infertility. MOTILIPERM extract is composed of three crude medicinal herbs: Morinda officinalis How (Rubiaceae) roots, Allium cepa L. (Liliaceae) outer scales, and Cuscuta chinensis Lamark (convolvulaceae) seeds. The present study aimed to investigate the possible mechanisms responsible for the effects of MOTILIPERM on testicular dysfunction induced by immobilization stress. Fifty male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into five groups (10 rats each): a normal control group (CTR), a control group administered MOTILIPERM 200 mg/kg (M 200), an immobilization-induced stress control group (S), an immobilization-induced stress group administered MOTILIPERM 100 mg/kg (S + M 100), and MOTILIPERM 200 mg/kg (S + M 200). Stressed rats (n = 30) were subjected to stress by immobilization for 6 h by placing them in a Perspex restraint cage, while controls (n = 20) were maintained without disturbance. Rats were administrated 100 or 200 mg/kg MOTILIPERM once daily for 30 days 1 h prior to immobilization. At the end of the treatment period, we measured body and reproductive organ weight; sperm parameters; histopathological damage; reproductive hormone levels; steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR); biomarkers of oxidative stress; and apoptosis markers. MOTILIPERM treatment improved testicular dysfunction by up-regulating (p < 0.05) sperm count, sperm motility, serum testosterone level, StAR protein level, Johnsen score, and spermatogenic cell density in stressed rats. MOTILIPERM decreased oxidative stress by increasing (p < 0.05) testicular superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione peroxidase-4 (GPx 4), catalase, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) levels and decreasing (p < 0.05) malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) levels. Furthermore, MOTILIPERM down-regulated (p < 0.05) cleaved caspase 3 and BCL2 associated X protein (Bax) levels; increased pro caspase-3 and B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) levels; and upregulated testicular germ cell proliferation in stressed rats. The number of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL)-positive cells and serum luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels also significantly (p < 0.05) decreased after pretreatment with MOTILIPERM in stressed rats. Collectively, our results suggest that, in immobilization-mediated stress-induced testicular dysfunction, MOTILIPERM sustains normal spermatogenesis via antioxidant and anti-apoptotic activities by activating the NRF/HO-1 signaling pathway.

Abstract
Mental illness is a prevalent and pressing public health problem among the Asian population, especially among young adults. This study examined the psychosocial predictors of the intention to seek counseling based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the effects of mental health conditions on the relative contributions of the TPB predictors in forming the intention among Asian young adults. The survey results in Singapore (n = 232) and Hong Kong (n = 998) revealed that attitudes, descriptive norms, and self-efficacy significantly predicted the intention to seek counseling in both Asian sites. In addition, the descriptive norms-intention association was stronger among those in a better mental health condition than among those with a worse mental health condition for both samples. The findings extend the literature on the TPB, as well as provide tailored strategies to promote counseling seeking among Asian young adults.

Abstract
Lymphopenia-induced homeostatic proliferation (LIP) is a critical mechanism for restoring T cell immunity upon lymphodepleting insults or infections. LIP is primarily driven by homeostatic cytokines, such as IL-7 and IL-15, but not all T cells respond with the same efficiency to homeostatic proliferative cues. Although CD8 T cells vigorously proliferate under lymphopenic conditions, naive CD4 T cells are substantially impaired in their response to homeostatic cytokines, and they fail to fully expand. In this study, we show that the availability of IL-2Rβ (CD122), which is a receptor subunit shared by IL-2 and IL-15, affects both the cytokine responsiveness and the LIP of naive CD4 T cells in the mouse. The enumeration of surface IL-2Rβ molecules on murine naive CD4 and naive CD8 T cells revealed a 5-fold difference in IL-2Rβ abundance. Notably, it was the limited availability of IL-2Rβ that impaired CD4 T cell responsiveness to IL-15 and suppressed their LIP. As such, forced IL-2Rβ expression on CD4 T cells by transgenesis bestowed IL-15 responsiveness onto naive CD4 T cells, which thus acquired the ability to undergo robust LIP. Collectively, these results identify IL-2Rβ availability as a new regulatory mechanism to control cytokine responsiveness and the homeostatic proliferation of murine CD4 T cells.

Abstract
Mental disorder is a pressing public health issue in Singapore, especially among young adults. By integrating the risk perception attitude (RPA) framework and the theory of planned behavior (TPB), this study examines psychosocial factors underlying two mental health promotion behaviors - seeking counseling and employing self-help methods - among young Singaporeans. The results of an online survey (n = 232) showed that, as predicted by RPA framework, perceived risk interacted with self-efficacy to affect behavioral intention to seek counseling. However, this interaction existed only among individuals with favorable attitudes toward counseling-seeking behavior and not among those with unfavorable attitudes. In addition, the interaction between perceived risk and self-efficacy was not significant for the intention to perform self-help methods. The current findings demonstrated that the nature of focal behavior and attitudes are boundary conditions of the interaction effect between perceived risk and efficacy, which is the core premise of the RPA framework. These findings offer practical implications for developing campaign strategies to promote mental well-being among young adults in Singapore.

Abstract
Calvatia nipponica, a puffball mushroom (Agaricaceae), is thought to be an aphrodisiac, as this mushroom is traditionally known to improve sexual function in males. As part of the systematic study to determine the bioactive secondary metabolites from C. nipponica responsible for aphrodisiac effects, chemical analysis of methanol (MeOH) extracts of the fruiting bodies of C. nipponica resulted in the isolation of two major compounds: N,N-dimethyl-anthranilic acid (1) and (7Z,10Z)-7,10-octadecadienoic acid methyl ester (2). Compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated for cumulative dose-dependent relaxation responses to precontracted penile corpus smooth muscle (PCCSM). Results show that compounds 1 and 2 exhibited a maximum relaxation effect of 20.33 ± 2.18% and 24.63 ± 3.60%, respectively. These findings indicate that compounds 1 and 2, major components of C. nipponica, could potentially be used to treat erectile dysfunction, functioning as natural aphrodisiacs.

Abstract
This study examined whether regulatory focus changes the effects of gain- and loss-framed narratives on promoting Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among young females in Singapore. We conducted a quasi-experiment in which participants reported their regulatory focus and then read either a gain- or loss-framed narrative about HPV vaccination. The results showed an overall advantage of a loss frame over a gain frame in producing transportation and self-referent emotions, which in turn led to increased vaccination intentions. This pattern was more pronounced among those high in prevention or promotion focus, with self-referent emotions being the primary mediator transferring the interactive effects onto vaccination intentions. This study contributes to the extant literature on narrative persuasion by addressing the specific mechanisms of the effect of framing employed in narratives.

Abstract
Background
Aortic stenosis (AS) induces significant pressure overload to the left ventricle (LV) and its burden may increase if there is concomitant LV systolic dysfunction. Severe AS with LV systolic dysfunction is a class I indication for aortic valve replacement (AVR) irrespective of symptoms, however, this recommendation is not well established in those with moderate AS and LV systolic dysfunction. In this study, we sought to investigate the clinical impact of surgical AVR among patients with moderate AS and LV systolic dysfunction.
Methods
From 2001 to 2017, we retrospectively but consecutively identified patients with moderate AS and LV systolic dysfunction from a single tertiary hospital. Moderate AS was defined as aortic valve area between 1.0 and 1.5cm2 and LV systolic dysfunction as LV ejection fraction less than 50%. The primary outcome was all-cause death and we additionally analyzed cardiac death as a secondary endpoint. The outcomes were compared between those who underwent early surgical AVR at the stage of moderate AS versus those who were followed without AVR at the outpatient clinic.
Results
Among a total of 257 patients with moderate AS and concomitant LV systolic dysfunction (70.0 ± 11.3 years, 63.4% of male), 34 patients received early AVR. Patients in the AVR group was younger than the observation group (64.2 ± 8.1 vs. 70.9 ± 11.5, respectively), and had a lower prevalence of hypertension and chronic kidney disease. During a mean of 3-year follow up, 112 patients (47.5%) died and the overall death rate was 15.367 per 100 person-year (PY). The AVR group showed a significantly lower rate of all-cause death than the observation group (5.241PY vs. 18.160PY, p-value = 0.002). After multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression adjusting for age, sex, comorbidities and laboratory data, early AVR at the stage of moderate AS significantly reduced the risk of all-cause death (hazard ratio [HR] 0.340, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.117 - 0.985, p-value = 0.047). However, there was no risk reduction of cardiac death (HR 0.578 95% CI 0.150 - 2.231, p-value = 0.426).
Conclusions
In patients with moderate AS and LV systolic dysfunction, AVR reduces the risk of all-cause death. A prospective design study is warranted to confirm our findings in the near future.

Background
Liver cirrhosis (LC) has been known to affect cardiovascular performance. Limited study have evaluated the alteration of myocardial function in patients with LC after liver transplantation (LT).
Purpose
The aim of study was to evaluate changes of cardiac function in patients with cirrhosis following LT using conventional and speckle-tracking echocardiography and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) of cardiac magnetic resonance (MR).
Methods
Thirty-five patients with cirrhosis (mean age, 57.1 ± 9.0; male, 75%) who were listed for LT were prospectively enrolled. Patients underwent conventional, speckle-tracking echocardiography, and cardiac MR imaging with LGE. Echocardiography and cardiac MR were performed at pre and 1 year after LT. Cirrhotic patients were compared with normal control (n = 20, mean age, 65.0 ± 14.8; men, 11(55%)) and echocardiographic and cardiac MR data were compared pre and post LT.
Results
Conventional and speckle-tracking echocardiography and Cardiac MR imaging demonstrated hyperdynamic left ventricular (LV) function in patients with cirrhosis (LV ejection fraction (EF) with cardiac MR 67.8 ± 7.0% in LC vs. 63.4 ± 6.4% in control, P = 0.028; global longitudinal strain (GLS) -24.3 ± 2.6% in LC vs. -18.6 ± 2.2% in control, P < 0.001). There were no LGE in patients with cirrhosis and no significant differences in LV size, LV wall thickness, LV mass index, and diastolic function between cirrhotic patients and control group (all P > 0.1). Corrected QT interval (QTc) in electrocardiogram was prolonged in LC patients (P < 0.001). One-year after LT, LV end-diastolic diameter and LV end-diastolic volume significantly decreased (P = 0.016 and 0.022, respectively). Although LVEF showed no significant changes 1 year post-LT (P = 0.362), LV-GLS (from -24.7 ± 1.8% to -20.8 ± 3.4%, P < 0.001) significantly decreased. QTc interval also decreased 1 year after LT (from 470.4 ± 29.6msec to 428.2 ± 31.6msec, P = 0.001).
Conclusions
The present study demonstrated that cirrhotic patients showed hyperdynamic circulation and prolonged QTc interval compared with normal controls. After 1 year LT, LV size reduced and augmented LV function was normalized. Given that no LGE in cardiac MR and normalized GLS and QTc after LT, cardiac dysfunction in LC patients could be reversed by LT.

Background/Introduction: Pathophysiology of aortic stenosis (AS) and several previous studies suggested the potential role of angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) in patients with AS.
Purpose
We aimed to investigate the effects of Fimasartan, an ARB, on exercise capacity and progression of AS in patients with moderate to severe AS.
Methods
We conducted a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 32 normotensive or controlled-hypertensive patients with moderate or severe AS. Study participants were randomized to Fimasartan 30 mg to 60 mg daily (n = 14) or placebo (n = 18) for 1 year, and underwent cardiopulmonary exercise test, 6-minute walk test, and echocardiography at 0, 6, and 12 months, with follow-up data available in 29 subjects.
Results
Significant reductions in blood pressures were observed in the Fimasartan group but not in the placebo group. Two of the 14 patients in the Fimasartan group withdrew the study due to mild symptoms probably related with the decreased blood pressure, and one patient decline the study protocol. After the 12-month treatment, the peak oxygen consumption (VO2; the primary outcome) in the Fimasartan group was significantly decreased (from 28.3 ± 5.9 to 25.4 ± 3.8 mL/min/kg, P = 0.021) but not in the placebo group (P for interaction = 0.046) (Figure 1A). The severity of AS showed a gradual progression in both groups, without inter-group differences (mean transaortic pressure; Fimasartan group, +4.0 ± 3.8 mmHg/year; placebo group, +5.3 ± 6.2 mmHg/year; P for interaction = 0.429) (Figure 1B). Parameters of left ventricular systolic and diastolic function did not change in both groups.
Conclusions
The use of ARB impaired exercise capacity in patients with moderate or severe AS, and did not prevent the progression of AS. However, due to the small number of participants, further studies are required to confirm these findings.
