Abstract
In stabilization of a Large-Scale System (LSS), the decentralized nature of the controller is a significant issue, because centralized controllers are difficult and impractical for real-time implementation. The designing procedure for decentralized controllers should guarantee the stability of the overall LSS and at the same time, allow limited information exchange in the LSS. In this paper, a decentralized controller for a nonlinear LSS modeled by a Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) model is designed. The controller design procedure is formulated as a convex feasibility problem which can be solved by finding a feasible answer to some Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). The solution to this feasibility problem assures a fully decentralized controller where information exchange among local controllers is forbidden and, only data transfer among each controller and its corresponding subsystem is allowed. In the proposed approach, the Lyapunov function of the LSS equipped with local controllers is considered as the sum of the Lyapunov functions of all subsystems. Then, the stability conditions are derived to assure the stability of the LSS. After designing a decentralized controller to ensure LSS stability, the same approach is exploited for H∞ and H2 performance improvement of the LSS in the presence of disturbances. To verify the efficacy of the designed controller, a large-scale power system which is a practical example is considered, and the proposed approach is applied on it. The simulation results prove the appropriateness of the designed local controllers.

Abstract
This paper aims to design a Model Predictive Control (MPC) law based on the time series data gathered from the input and output of a system. An Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model with unknown parameters and an unknown sequence of controller signal are considered for the system. Based on a window of data, an optimization problem is formulated which can find the optimal unknown model parameters and controller sequence, simultaneously. This problem is a non-convex optimization problem with many non-convex constraints and difficult to solve. Therefore, a transformation is developed which can transfer the optimization problem to an equivalent problem with convex constraints and a non-convex objective function. This new problem is much easier to solve with the present solvers. The effectiveness of the overall approach is proved via several examples that reveal satisfaction and convincingness.

Abstract
Soil moisture (SM) at the interface between the land surface and atmosphere is one of the major environmental parameters which plays an important role in hydrological applications. In this article, the SM measured by Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) is downscaled from 3- to 1-km spatial resolution. The main purpose is to evaluate the performance of two different downscaling methods over a variety of climatic conditions and land cover types. These two methods, based on regression and artificial neural network (ANN), are used for enabling us to cross-validate and reliably interpret the obtained results since the number of ground measurements is not sufficient for accuracy assessment. These methods are applied over four different case studies; one is located in the USA, i.e., state of Utah (semi-arid), and the remaining three are located in Iran, i.e., Fars (arid and semi-arid), Yazd (hyper-arid), and Golestan (humid). In both methods, different combinations of input features correlated with SM including land surface temperature (LST), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), brightness temperatures in horizontal and vertical polarizations (TBH and TBV), shortwave infrared (SWIR), and digital elevation model (DEM) are used. It is found that the DEM does not add extra information in downscaling. The reason is due to high correlation between topography and LST. Moreover, SWIR is most likely able to model only large-scale variations of SM. The downscaled SM products are then compared to 1-km resolution SMAP SM extracted from Sentinel-1 for the study areas in Iran and in situ measurements in Utah. Both methods produce results which are considerably consistent except that the regression method adds more spatial details in the downscaled SM. The achievements illustrate that the performance of both downscaling methods is higher in areas with more homogeneous climatic conditions, i.e., Yazd and Golestan. The best evaluation metrics including correlation coefficient (R), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) for Yazd and Golestan are R = 0.89, RMSE = 0.025 m3/m3, and MAPE = 21.13% and R = 0.93, RMSE = 0.044 m3/m3, and MAPE = 21.95%, respectively. Moreover, large model biases are associated with dense vegetated areas and high altitudes. The best downscaling accuracy in both methods over all study areas belongs to bare soil and flat regions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Having moral courage is a crucial characteristic for nurses to handle ethical quandaries, stay true to their professional obligations towards patients, and uphold ethical principles. This concept can be influenced by various factors including personal, professional, organizational, and leadership considerations. The purpose of this study was to explore the predictors of moral courage among nurses working in hospitals. METHODS In 2018, an observational cross-sectional study was carried out on 267 nurses employed in six hospitals located in the northern region of Iran. The participants were selected through a simple random sampling technique. To collect data, a demographic information form was used along with two questionnaires. The first questionnaire was a standard survey on moral courage, while the second questionnaire was designed to assess the ethical climate. Linear regression was used to assess the predictors of moral courage. RESULTS Nurses had an average moral courage score of 87.07 ± 15.52 and an average moral climate score of 96.12 ± 17.17. The study showed that 16% of the variation in moral courage scores among nurses was explained by ethical climate and monthly overtime hours. CONCLUSION This study underscores the significance of establishing an ethical work environment and minimizing overtime hours in order to enhance moral courage among nurses. These findings carry weight for both nursing practice and organizational policies focused on fostering ethical conduct within healthcare settings.

Abstract
Background Cyclophosphamide (CP) is an anticancer drug that acts as an alkylation agent after metabolism in the liver. CP has toxic effects on the body's cells, especially the reproductive system's function, and causes infertility. Moreover, medicinal plants have few side effects and are psychologically acceptable to patients. Objective This study aimed to investigate the impact of Ephedra pachyclada hydroalcoholic extract (EPHE) on ovarian tissue and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in rats treated with CP. Materials and Methods In this experimental study, 48 adult female Wistar rats (180-200 gr, 9-10 wk) were randomly assigned to 6 experimental groups (n = 8/each): (a) control; (b) sham; (c) CP; (d) CP+250 mg/kg EPHE; (e) CP+500 mg/kg EPHE; (f) CP+1000 mg/kg EPHE. On the 29th day of the experiment, serum was collected; serum concentration of the luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, estrogen, progesterone, and antioxidant activity were measured. The number of ovarian follicles were also counted. Results In the CP groups, serum concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone significantly increased, and estrogen and progesterone significantly decreased (p ≤ 0.05). EPHE significantly compensated for the complications caused by CP and 1000 mg/kg had the greatest effect. Antioxidant reduction by CP was significantly enhanced by EPHE, especially at higher doses (p ≤ 0.05). The number of primordial, primary, secondary, and Graafian follicles showed a significant decrease in CP groups and EPHE groups showed a significant increase compared to the CP. EPHE showed that the concentration of 1000 mg/kg was more effective than other doses (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion In addition to proving the effect of EPHE on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, our investigation showed antioxidant properties, which can be an effective factor in CP-treated rats.

Abstract
This paper addresses a robust Luenberger observer for an uncertain linear parameter varying (LPV) system based on the concepts of direct searching, Kronecker sum, and small gain theorem. An algorithm is proposed to investigate the situation of the different parts of the initial observer design space, in terms of suitability for being selected as the observer gain or needing elimination due to being an undesirable part. To find the undesirable parts of the design space, the singularity of the Kronecker sum matrix of the estimation error is checked by employing the small gain theorem concept. By excluding undesired parts from the entire design space and checking the remaining parts' feasibility, a suitable solution can be found, appropriately. The performance of the proposed observer design method is illustrated by using numerical examples and an electric ground vehicle (EGV) system for the estimation of the vehicle sideslip angle and the yaw rate. The results prove the appropriateness of the designed observer using the proposed approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The coronavirus pandemic and health measures related to it have led to an increase in mental health problems. The relatively high incidence of the disease and its mortality rate created anxiety in society. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of fear of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its relationship with obsessive-compulsive disorder in patients who attended the outpatient clinic of Besat Hospital in Hamadan. METHODS In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 320 patients who attended the outpatient clinic of Besat Hospital in Hamadan were selected by random sampling method in 2021. Data were collected using the Fear of the coronavirus (COVID-19) questionnaire and obsessive-compulsive disorder scale and analyzed using SPSS software (V16). They were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and independent t-test. RESULTS The mean ± SD age of the subjects was 34.14 ± 9.30 years and 65% of the study subjects were women. The mean ± SD score on the obsessive-compulsive disorder scale was 32.90 ± 19.87 and the mean ± SD score for fear of coronavirus was 16.82 ± 5.79. The contamination dimension of OCD had the highest score of 9.04 ± 5.46 and stealing had the lowest score of 0.10 ± 0.49. The mean fear of COVID-19 in people who had a history of obsessive-compulsive disorder before the quarantine was significantly higher than in those who did not have it (P = 0.002). Along with the increasing fear of coronavirus scale score, the score of obsessive-compulsive disorders increased except for the stealing dimension (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The results of the study showed that there was a moderate level of fear of COVID-19 among the study population. Also, a relatively high proportion of study subjects had a weak manifestation of OCD. It seems that two years after the beginning of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, people have adapted to the conditions, and their fear of the disease is reduced.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Women empowerment is effective in successful breastfeeding. Hence,identifying the relationship between psychosocial factors, such as acceptance of feminine norms, and empowerment can be beneficial in designing interventions.. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between breastfeeding empowerment and conformity to feminine norms. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted on 288 primiparous mothers in the postpartum period using validated questionnaires of conformity to gender norms and breastfeeding empowerment in the following domains: "sufficient knowledge and skills for breastfeeding," "a sense of breastfeeding competence," "conscious belief in the value of breastfeeding," "overcoming breastfeeding problems," "negotiation and obtaining family support" and "self-efficacy in breastfeeding" which were completed through the self-report method. Data were analyzed using the multivariate linear regression test. RESULTS The mean score of 'conformity to feminine norms' and 'breastfeeding empowerment' were 142.39 and 144.14, respectively. The score of breastfeeding empowerment was positively related to conformity to feminine norms (p = 0.003). Among the dimensions of breastfeeding empowerment, 'mothers' adequate knowledge and skills for breastfeeding' (p = 0.001), 'belief in the value of breastfeeding' (p = 0.008), and 'negotiation and obtaining family support' (p = 0.01) were positively related to conformity to feminine norms. CONCLUSIONS The results indicate a positive relationship between the level of conformity to feminine norms and breastfeeding empowerment. Accordingly, it is recommended that supporting breastfeeding as a valuable role of women be considered in programs designed to improve breastfeeding empowerment.

Abstract
Recent advances in the artificial pancreas system provide an emerging treatment option for type 1 diabetes. The performance of the blood glucose regulation directly relies on the accuracy of the glucose-insulin modeling. Sorenson model involves the behavior of different organs and offers precise representation. However, the high complexity of such a model makes the controller design procedure a hard task. Therefore, the high-order nonlinear Sorensen model as a popular high-fidelity physiological model is opted in this paper to analyze the glucose-insulin interactions in great detail, and a new robust nonlinear approach to regulate the blood glucose concentration (BGC) in Type-I diabetic patients is proposed. Inspiring the backstepping technique, for designing an acceptable controller, the model is divided into three main subsystems such that in each subsystem, the virtual control input laws are obtained using both Lyapunov stability and input-to-state theorems. Since the measurement of the parameters in the glucose-insulin system is not accurate, parametric uncertainties are defined in the investigated model. Furthermore, owing to the fact that the only measurable state variable is blood glucose, the estimation of inaccessible state variables is an important issue that is properly considered by the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) estimator. The suggested approach is compared to H∞, robust H∞, and linear parameter-varying control approaches. The comparison results on 500 simulated patients imply a remarkable superiority of the proposed controller approach to the compared methods in terms of the BGC tracking and the algorithm robustness in the presence of food intake disturbance patterns.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The significance of subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is largely due to its potential risk for developing overt hypothyroidism (OH). Investigations are still exploring predictive factors contributing to the progression of SCH to OH, particularly in patients with mildly elevated serum thyrotropin (TSH). We aimed to clarify the natural history of SCH and the predictive factors of its progression, based on the grade of SCH severity. METHODS This study was conducted within the framework of the Tehran Thyroid Study (TTS), in which 5783 individuals aged ≥ 20 years were followed. After applying exclusion criteria, data of 270 SCH subjects remained for the analysis. Thyroid function tests were assessed at baseline and every 3 years. RESULTS Of 270 participants with SCH, 239 (88.5%) had TSH level between 5.06 and 10 mU/L, and 31 (11.4%) had TSH ≥ 10 mU/L. During a median follow-up of 10 years, 40% had TSH within the reference range, 44% maintained elevated TSH, and 16% had added low T4 to the elevated TSH. The annual incidence rate of progression to OH was 22.3 (16.5-101.9) per 1000 person-years [18 (12.6-25.6) for those with TSH 5.07-9.9 mU/L and 57.8 (22.8-101.9) for patients with TSH ≥ 10 mU/L per 1000 person-years (P = 0.001)]. After adjusting age, sex, body mass index (BMI), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), and serum TSH, only TPOAb positivity (HR: 2.31; 95% CI 1.10-4.83, P = 0.026) and baseline TSH level ≥ 10 mU/L (HR: 5.14; 95% CI 2.14-12.3, P < 0.001) remained as predictors for development of OH. In patients with TSH 5.07-9.9 mU/L, TPOAb positivity was associated with an increased risk of OH (HR: 2.41; 95% CI 1.10-5.30, P = 0.027). However, in patients with TSH ≥ 10 mU/L, TPOAb positivity was not a predictor (P = 0.49). CONCLUSION TPOAb and not TSH are associated with the development of OH in individuals with serum TSH below 10 mU/L, and follow-up at regular intervals is recommended in TPOAb-positive individuals with TSH between 5 and 10 mU/L.

Abstract
At the forefront of biopharmaceutical industry, the messenger RNA (mRNA) technology offers a flexible and scalable platform to address the urgent need for world-wide immunization in pandemic situations. This strategic powerful platform has recently been used to immunize millions of people proving both of safety and highest level of clinical efficacy against infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Here we provide preclinical report of COReNAPCIN®; a vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2 infection. COReNAPCIN® is a nucleoside modified mRNA-based vaccine formulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for encoding the full-length prefusion stabilized SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein on the cell surface. Vaccination of C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice and rhesus macaque with COReNAPCIN® induced strong humoral responses with high titers of virus-binding and neutralizing antibodies. Upon vaccination, a robust SARS-CoV-2 specific cellular immunity was also observed in both mice and non-human primate models. Additionally, vaccination protected rhesus macaques from symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection and pathological damage to the lung upon challenging the animals with high viral loads of up to 2 × 108 live viral particles. Overall, our data provide supporting evidence for COReNAPCIN® as a potent vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2 infection for clinical studies.

Abstract
Objective Coronavirus disease 2019 has significantly impacted the rate of emergency department visits among patients with the non-repository disease. Patients with acute appendicitis are also likely to delay their visit to the health care center, which can lead to complications including perforated appendicitis. The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of perforated appendicitis during the COVID19 and pre-pandemic periods. Methods This retrospective study was performed on all appendectomies performed during COVID-19, Group A, and one year earlier, Group B. A questionnaire comprising demographic variables (age, gender, occupation, education), clinical variables (white blood cell count, fever), location and type of appendicitis, the status of appendectomy, and duration of hospitalization was completed for all the patients included in the study. Results The demographic variables were not significantly different among the two groups. The perforation appendicitis rate during the COVID19 pandemic increased compared to the previous year, The difference was not statistically significant. The number of negative appendectomy in group A was significantly less compared to group B. The mean time from the onset of pain to the time of referral was significantly lesser in group A. The mean length of hospital stay in group B was longer than in group A. In terms of fever, patients with perforated appendicitis in group B had a higher fever than in group A, which was statistically significant. Conclusion A non-significant increase in the number of perforated appendicitis cases during the pandemic period. Duration of hospitalization and fever was significantly greater in pre-pandemic perforated appendicitis cases. Coronavirus disease has significantly impacted the rate of emergency department visits. A non-significant increase in the number of perforated appendicitis cases during pandemic period.

Abstract
Initiation and development of cancer depend on multiple factors that mutations in genes and epigenetic level can be considered as important drivers. Epigenetic factors include a large family of members and understanding their function in cancer has been a hot topic. LncRNAs are RNA molecules with no capacity in synthesis of proteins, and they have regulatory functions in cells. LncRNAs are localized in nucleus and cytoplasm, and their abnormal expression is related to development of tumor. This manuscript emphasizes on the role of lncRNA H19 in various cancers and its association with tumor hallmarks. The function of lncRNA H19 in most tumors is oncogenic and therefore, tumor cells increase its expression for promoting their progression. LncRNA H19 contributes to enhancing growth and cell cycle of cancers and by EMT induction, it is able to elevate metastasis rate. Silencing H19 induces apoptotic cell death and disrupts progression of tumors. LncRNA H19 triggers chemo- and radio-resistance in cancer cells. miRNAs are dually upregulated/down-regulated by lncRNA H19 in increasing tumor progression. Anti-cancer agents reduce lncRNA H19 in impairing tumor progression and increasing therapy sensitivity. A number of downstream targets and molecular pathways for lncRNA H19 have been detected in cancers including miRNAs, RUNX1, STAT3, β-catenin, Akt2 and FOXM1. Clinical studies have revealed potential of lncRNA H19 as biomarker and its association with poor prognosis. LncRNA H19 can be transferred to cancer cells via exosomes in enhancing their progression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We decided to compare some inflammatory, and oxidative stress markers, as well as lipid profiles between the obese and non-obese patients with type 2 diabetes considering ApoB gene polymorphism. METHODS one-hundred sixty two patients with type 2 diabetes were included in this study. ApoB genotyping was conducted by the polymerase chain reaction. Serum interleukin-(IL-18), pentraxin-3 (PTX-3), and high sensitive- C reactive protein (hs-CRP) was measured as the inflammatory markers. Moreover, copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and 8-isoprostane F2α were analyzed for oxidative stress assessment. Anthropometric indices and lipid profiles were measured. RESULTS Adjusted for confounders, serum hs-CRP (p = 0.04), LDL-C (p = 0.01), LDL-C/HDL-C (p = 0.04), and TG (p = 0.02) were significantly lower at the Homozygous Insertion (Ins)/Ins vs. deletion (Del) allele carriers in the obese patients. Serum TAC was significantly lower at the obese Del allele carriers than Ins/Ins Homozygous (p = 0.03). Serum hs-CRP (p = 0.006), and 8-IsoprostanF2α (P = 0.04) were significantly higher in the obese Del allele carriers than non-obese. Serum Cu/Zn-SOD was significantly higher in the non-obese Del allele carriers than obese (p = 0.04). CONCLUSION Inflammation, dyslipidemia, and oxidative stress are higher in the Obese Del allele carriers with type 2 diabetes which prone them to other chronic disorders.

Abstract
This paper studies the robust stability of the fractional-order (FO) LTI systems with polytopic uncertainty. Generally, the characteristic polynomial of the system dynamic matrix is not an affine function of the uncertain parameters. Consequently, the robust stability of the uncertain system cannot be evaluated by well-known approaches including LMIs or exposed edges theorem. Here, an over-parameterization technique is developed to convert the main characteristic polynomial into a set of local over-parameterized characteristic polynomials (LOPCPs). It is proved that the robust stability of LOPCPs implies the robust stability of the uncertain system. Then, an algorithm is proposed to explore system's robust stability through investigating the robust stability of these LOPCPs based on the exposed edges idea. For the sake of feasibility comparison, extensive examples are elaborated that reveal the superiority of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract
Abstract
Proteome diversification through extensive pre-mRNA alternative splicing (AS) is a fundamental aspect of cell fate determination and tissue specialization. The CDC2-like kinases (CLK1-4) and the dual specificity tyrosine phosphorylation regulated kinases (DYRK1-4) have been recognized as participating in signal transduction-dependent alternative splice junction selection through phosphorylation of their substrate proteins- the serine/arginine rich splicing factors (SRSF1-12). The use of CLK/DYRK kinase inhibitors, with various selectivity and potency profiles within the CMGC family, has implicated this regulatory process in both development and disease. Furthermore, an emerging appreciation for the key role of AS in support of tumorigenesis indicates the CLK/DYRK kinases may represent a druggable oncology target class. However, careful evaluation of potential toxicities associated with inhibition of these kinases has not yet been reported. To address this need, the preclinical toxicity profile of SM08502, a potent pan-CLK/DYRK inhibitor was characterized in multiple exploratory and GLP studies performed in rats and cynomolgus monkeys. Daily dosing of SM08502 was generally well-tolerated in both rats and monkeys, with limited target organs of toxicities. Major clinically relevant target organ of toxicities included gastrointestinal (GI), bone marrow, and lymphatic organ toxicities in both rats and monkeys. GI toxicity was characterized as villous blunting, single cell necrosis of the epithelium, hemorrhage, inflammation, and edema. These findings in the GI tract manifested clinically as emesis, inappetence, vomiting, and diarrhea. Microscopic findings suggest a distinct mechanism from cytotoxic agents such as chemotherapy. Morphological evaluation suggests SM08502 primarily affects GI villar epithelial cell dynamics without impairing crypt cell replication or survival. Complete recovery of GI tract findings upon dose holiday was demonstrated in both the rat and the monkey. The SM08503-related hematological findings included decreased in reticulocytes, and leukocytes (primarily monocytes and lymphocytes) in both species. These hematological effects contributed to decreased hematopoietic cellularity (all lineages) in the bone marrow and lymphocyte depletion in lymphatic organs (thymus, spleen, lymph nodes and GALT (gut-associated lymphoid tissue). The nonclinical experience with SM08502 suggests an acceptable safety profile, with adverse events limited to transient reversible GI and hematological findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Regarding the inconclusive results of previous investigations, this study aimed to determine the association between pathology, as a possible predictor, with remission outcomes, to know the role of pathology in the personalized decision making in acromegaly patients. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was performed on the consecutive surgeries for growth hormone (GH) producing pituitary adenomas from February 2015 to January 2021. Seventy-one patients were assessed for granulation patterns and prolactin co-expression as dual staining adenomas. The role of pathology and some other predictors on surgical remission was evaluated using logistic regression models. RESULTS Among 71 included patients, 34 (47.9%) patients had densely granulated (DG), 14 (19.7%) had sparsely granulated (SG), 23 (32.4%) had dual staining pituitary adenomas. The remission rate was about 62.5% in the patients with SG and DG adenomas named single staining and 52.2% in dual staining groups. Postoperative remission was 1.53-folds higher in the single staining adenomas than dual staining-one (non-significant). The remission rate was doubled in DG group compared to two other groups (non-significant). By adjusting different predictors, cavernous sinus invasion and one-day postoperative GH levels decreased remission rate by 91% (95% CI: 0.01-0.67; p = 0.015) and 64% (95% CI: 0.19-0.69; p < 0.001), respectively. Responses to the medications were not significantly different among three groups. CONCLUSION Various pathological subtypes of pituitary adenomas do not appear to have a predictive role in estimating remission outcomes. Cavernous sinus invasion followed by one-day postoperative GH is the strongest parameter to predict biochemical remission.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of two abundant dietary supplements, quercetin and vitamin C on some factors involved in metastasis and proliferation of prostate cancer, which are resistant to conventional chemotherapies in late stages. BACKGROUND Bone and brain are two common sites of metastases in prostate cancer, nevertheless the factors involved in their metastatic pathways are not well understood. METHODS The effect of quercetin (75µM) and vitamin C (100 µM) on CXCR4, CXCR7 chemokine receptors, α4, α5 and β1 integrins, ki-67 proliferation marker and Vascular endothelial growth factor, VEGF was evaluated using Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR (RT-qPCR). RESULTS The effect of quercetin and vitamin C alone was different on PC3 and DU145 prostate cancer cell lines, but sequential combination reduced significantly the expression of CXCR and CXCR7 chemokine receptors, α4, α5 and β1 integrin subunits, VEGF and Ki-67 proliferation markers in PC3 and DU145 cell lines. CONCLUSION Our results indicated the beneficial effect of quercetin and vitamin C on prostate cancer cells with different metastatic sites and their differential response to the treatment which in turn may lead us to reach suitable therapeutic outcomes to combat cancer (Fig. 3, Ref. 36).

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The recommended position for measuring Intra-Abdominal Pressure (IAP) is the supine position. However, patients put in this position are prone to Ventilator-associated pneumonia. This study was done to evaluate the relationship between bed head angle and IAP measurements of intubated patients in the intensive care unit. METHODS In this clinical trial, seventy-six critically ill patients under mechanical ventilation were enrolled. IAP measurement was performed every 8 hours for 24 hours using the KORN method in three different degrees of the head of bed (HOB) elevation (0 ° , 15 ° , and 30 ° ). Bland-Altman analysis was performed to identify the bias and limits of agreement among the three HOBs. According to World Society of the Abdominal Compartment Syndrome (WSACS), we can consider two IAP techniques equivalent if a bias of <1 mmHg and limits of agreement of - 4 to +4 were found between them. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software (v. 19), and the significance level was considered as 0.05. RESULTS The prevalence of intra-abdominal hypertension was 18.42%. Mean ± standard deviation (SD) of IAP were 8.44 ± 4.02 mmHg for HOB angle 0°, 9.58 ± 4.52 for HOB angle 15 ° , and 11.10 ± 4.73 for HOB angle 30o (p = 0.0001). The IAP measurement bias between HOB angle 0°and HOB angle 15° was 1.13 mmHg. This bias was 2.66 mmHg between HOB angle 0° and HOB angle 30°. CONCLUSION Elevation of HOB angle from 0 to 30 degree significantly increases IAP. It seems that the measurement of IAP at HOB angle 15° was more reliable than 30°.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neuroendocrine tumor (NET) with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion are very rare. To our knowledge, no follow-up study is published for ACTH-secreting NET, regardless of the primary site, to show second occurrence of tumor after a long follow-up, following resection of primary tumor. CASE PRESENTATION Here, we describe a 49-year-old-man with cushingoid feature, drowsiness and quadriparesis came to emergency department at December 2005. Laboratory tests revealed hyperglycemia, metabolic alkalosis, severe hypokalemia, and chemical evidence of an ACTH-dependent hypercortisolism as morning serum cortisol of 57 μg /dL without suppression after 8 mg dexamethasone suppression test, serum ACTH level of 256 pg/mL, and urine free cortisol of > 1000 μg /24 h. Imaging showed only bilateral adrenal hyperplasia, without evidence of pituitary adenoma or ectopic ACTH producing tumors. Importantly, other diagnostic tests for differentiating Cushing disease (CD) from ectopic ACTH producing tumor, such as inferior petrosal sinus sampling (IPSS), corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) stimulation test, octreotide scan or fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) scan were not available in our country at that time. Therefore, bilateral adrenalectomy was performed that led to clinical and biochemical remission of hypercortisolism and decreased ACTH level to < 50 pg/mL, findings suggestive of a primary focus of NET in adrenal glands. After 11 years uncomplicated follow up, the ACTH level elevated up to 341 pg/mL and re-evaluation showed a 2 cm nodule in the middle lobe of the right lung. Surgical excision of the pulmonary nodule yielded a carcinoid tumor with positive immunostaining for ACTH; leading to decrease in serum ACTH level to 98 pg/mL. Subsequently after 7 months, serum ACHT levels rose again. More investigation showed multiple lung nodules with metastatic bone lesions accompanied by high serum chromogranin level (2062 ng/mL), and the patient managed as a metastatic NET, with bisphosphonate and somatostatin receptor analogues. CONCLUSION This case of surgically-treated NET showing a secondary focus of carcinoid tumor after one decade of disease-free follow-up emphasizes on the importance of long-term follow-up of ACTH-secreting adrenal NET.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies evaluating liver transplantation (LT) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the Middle East have been scarce, mainly due to intricacy of this type of surgery. OBJECTIVE In here we report our experiences with LT among patients with HCC cirrhosis.Methods: All patients who underwent LT with primary diagnosis of HCC older than 18 years old, during 2004 to 2019, were initially included in our study. RESULTS Overall, 124 patients entered our study, among which majority were males (86.3%). Mean (SD) age of patients was 53.1±10.6 years old. Most common underlying liver diseases were HBV (55.6%) and HCV infections (12.1%). Mean MELD score of patients was 18±5.5. Child-Pugh score of most patients was class B (50%). Mean (SD) duration of hospitalization was 12.1±3.5 days. Patients were followed for a median of 32 (9, 62) months. The most common causes of death were recurrence of HCC (47.7%) and sepsis (34.1%). Median (IQR) duration to recurrence and death were 18 (4, 34) months and 17.5 (5.7, 44.5) months, respectively. One-year survival (89%, 86.4%, and 63.2%, respectively) (p=0.011) and one-year DFS (89%, 86.4%, and 57.9%, respectively) (p=0.001) was significant different between those who were selected based on the Milan, UCSF and extended criteria. CONCLUSION Our study provides valuable experiences on LT and HCC from one of the largest LT centers in the world. Accordingly, we found that the Milan criterion provides the best survival compared to the UCSF and our extended criteria for patient selection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Five epigenetic regulator mutations are considered in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) that have prognostic and therapeutic values. OBJECTIVE We aimed to evaluate these mutations in MPNs among the Iranian population. METHODS We selected 5 mutations in 4 epigenetic regulatory genes [TET2, DNMT3A, IDH1 (rs147001633&rs121913499), and JAK2)] and evaluated 130 patients with MPNs including 78 Philadelphia chromosome negative (49 ETs, 20 PVs, and 9 PMFs) and 52 Philadelphia chromosome-positive patients as well as 51 healthy controls. RESULTS Eight patients (6.5%) carried the DNMT3A mutation, 35 (27%) were positive for TET2 mutation and 64 (49.3%) had the JAK2V617F mutation. In the healthy controls, 16 (31.4%) cases had the TET2 mutation (15 Heterozygote + 1 Homozygote) and one had heterozygote JAK2 mutation. There was no statistically significant difference between patient groups for any of these mutations, except for JAK2. The JAK2 mutation rate was 18 (90%), 25 (51%), 7 (77.8%), 14 (26.9%) in polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, primary myelofibrosis, and chronic myelocytic leukemia, respectively. Patients aged 60 and older were more likely to carry the TET2 mutation (23% vs. 39% in younger and older than 60 years old individuals, p=0.025). IDH1 was not detected at all and PV had the highest TET2 mutation 7(35%). Two PMF patients had a history of bone marrow transplantation that were negative for IDH1and DNMT3A and one was positive for TET2 mutation. CONCLUSION In the normal Iranian population, the heterozygote form of TET2 mutation is significant, especially in the elderly. No association was found between JAK2 and TET2 mutations. Both of them are more prevalent in the age group of 60 years and older. DNMT3A mutation has a low prevalence and occurs in both positive and negative MPNs.

Abstract
AIM This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the attitudes of Iranian nurses towards clinical information systems in nursing practice. BACKGROUND Nurses are essential in the successful adoption and implementation of clinical information systems. METHODS A systematic search was performed in Medline, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL, Scopus, and Web of Science and Farsi databases, to retrieve relevant studies. The methodological quality of the studies is assessed via the Joanna Briggs Institute's critical appraisal checklist for analytical cross-sectional studies. The random effect model was utilized to analyse the data due to the high heterogeneity in the included studies (n = 17). RESULTS Results indicate that clinical information systems impact on at least seven aspects of nursing practice, including documentation, patient safety, quality of treatment, communication, treatment management, nursing tasks and hospital resource management. Results also indicated that one aspect of using clinical information systems in nursing practice is satisfaction with the 'quality and design of clinical information systems', such as ease of use and learning, flexibility and software speed. CONCLUSION Clinical information systems can contribute to different aspects of nursing practice. However, their design should improve significantly in order to help nurses perform their professional activities in an efficient and satisfactory manner. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING POLICY Before the full deployment of clinical information systems, their usability should be tested. In pilot testing, nurses should provide necessary feedback about how well the systems work and improvements needed to meet their professional goals.

Abstract
Colchicine overdose is uncommon; however, it can cause serious adverse effects and even death. Colchicine inhibits microtubule polymerization, causing mitotic spindle disruption. Ingesting ˃0.5 mg of colchicine per kilogram bodyweight causes severe adverse effects and can even be fatal. Therefore, colchicine toxicity must be accurately monitored and managed.In this case report, we described a 21-year-old woman who attempted suicide by the ingestion of an estimated 30 mg colchicine. She was admitted to the hospital due to severe abdominal and chest pain, vomiting, lethargy, and weakness. The patient was medicated with ondansetron, apotel, antibiotics, platelet transfusions, sodium phosphate, calcium gluconate, calcitriol, desmopressin acetate, Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF), and sodium bicarbonate. Fortunately, through the appropriate medical treatment, the signs and symptoms of colchicine toxicity were relieved and the patient survived despite the high colchicine serum level.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mesenchymal stem cells are one of the most interesting cell sources used in regenerative medicine. OBJECTIVE In the present study, we isolated and characterized the mesenchymal stem cells from various compartments of human adipose tissue and tunica adventitia layer of the arteries. METHODS Tissue explant culture was done from various compartments of the human adipose tissue and tunica adventitia layer of the arteries, including adipose tissue far from the vessels, perivascular tissues that are completely attached to the vessels, and tunica adventitia layer of the arteries. After the cell culture, characterization of the cells was determined at 3rd-5th passages. Flow cytometry was performed for antigen expression analysis of CD34, CD45, CD44, CD90, CD29, CD73, and CD105. For the evaluation of cell differentiation potential, adipogenic and osteogenic differentiation was conducted under appropriate protocols. RESULTS The cells were positive for CD44, CD90, CD29, and CD73 and negative for CD34, CD45, and CD105. Adipogenic and osteogenic differentiation potentials were different among the cells from various compartments. The cells derived from perivascular tissue demonstrated better adipogenic and osteogenic differentiation. CONCLUSION It is essential to characterize the cells from different tissues and compartments for different purposes in regenerative medicine.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Liver transplantation is the only treatment for end-stage and genetic liver diseases. The main burden of this treatment is the shortage of both living and cadaveric liver donors. An alternative treatment is using liver cell transplantation, which can be obtained from unused livers for transplantation. These hepatocytes should be kept ready in viable and functional situation in a frozen state to be instantly used when they would be needed. In our previous experience, we had isolated hepatocytes from unused livers. OBJECTIVE To find a preserving solution for increasing viability and function of the isolated hepatocytes that are stored to be transplanted. METHODS 9 cadaveric donor livers, which were not used for transplantation due to various causes such as severe steatosis, were selected to isolate hepatocytes. Various cold storage solutions were tried to find the best temperature for more viability and functionality for preservation of hepatocytes. University of Wisconsin (UW) solution and Williams E media were used as control media. 2 anti-apoptotic and anti-oxidative solutions, i.e., α-lipoic acid and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), were used as cold preservatives solutions. The numbers of viable hepatocytes were estimated by trypan blue method; the functionality was assessed by the cells ability to produce urea. RESULTS The highest number of viable and functional hepatocytes was obtained from freshly isolated cells. However, after preservation, the number of these viable hepatocytes and their functionality were not significantly different in cold storage solutions comparing to the control media used. Functionality of the isolated hepatocytes stored in UW with and without UCDA solution was similar to freshly isolated hepatocytes. CONCLUSION Preservatives with anti-apoptotic and antioxidant activity could not increase the number of viable hepatocytes. Functionality of cold storing hepatocytes could be preserved similar to freshly isolated hepatocytes by UW solution with and without UCDA.

Abstract
In this paper, an adaptive controller based on barrier Lyapunov function combined with an optimal reset rule is devised in order to improve the transient performance of nonlinear adaptive control. A novel reset rule is designed such that the estimated parameters of the adaptive controller jump to the optimal values in a way that optimizes a cost function representing the transient performance index. It is proved that asymptotic tracking is achieved and the output remains in a desired bound by ensuring boundedness of the barrier Lyapunov function. Besides, the convergence rate is increased by resetting the estimated parameters to optimal values. A regularly referred example is simulated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and the results are compared with the existing investigations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cellular transplantation is a promising treatment strategy for neurological diseases. OBJECTIVE To report the results of intrathecal hematopoietic stem cell therapy in different neurological diseases in the past 6 years in a single center. METHODS From October 2011 to September 2018, 220 patients with various neurological diseases were transplanted intrathecally by their bone marrow stem cells. To have a longer follow up, we only reported the first 80 patients, transplanted up to July 2015-10 patients had spinal cord injuries and paralysis, 12 had advanced Parkinson's disease, 28 had cerebral palsy, 7 had hypoxic brain damage, 2 had autism, 4 had multiple sclerosis, 5 had progressive cerebellar atrophy, and 12 had other neurological diseases. The patients were admitted to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. On the first day, 50-200 (median 100) mL bone marrow was aspirated from the patients' posterior iliac crests, mixed with 120 mL culture media (RPMI), and 12 mL heparin. The samples were then transferred to immunology lab in cold box. Mononuclear cells (MNCs) were separated by a Ficoll-Hypaque gradient, washed, and suspended in ringers. Cell viability was assessed with trypan blue viability test. Transplantation was performed 3-4 hours after bone marrow collection. 5-10 mL of the cerebrospinal fluids were aspirated and about 20 mL MNCs (containing stem cells) in ringers were injected intrathecally (IT). The patients were laid down on their back for 4-5 hours. The median number of MNCs was 4×107 (range 1-450×107). The median viability of the cells was 90% (range 60%-98%). The patients received intravenous ceftriaxone every 12 hours and were discharged from the hospital few days after autologous stem cell therapy. RESULTS We noted clinical improvements in 9 of 12 patients with Parkinson's disease, 20 of 28 patients with cerebral palsy, 6 of 7 patients with hypoxic brain damage, 2 of 4 patients with multiple sclerosis, and 4 of 5 patients with cerebellar atrophy. The improvements were noted after 2-4 weeks of cell therapy. There were no improvements in patients with spinal cord injury and complete paralysis and those with autism. There were variable improvements in other patients treated. CONCLUSION Most patients with advanced Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, hypoxic brain damage, progressive cerebellar atrophy, and kernicterus neuropathy reported clinical effects of this safe intervention resulting in better functioning and an increased quality of life.

Abstract
Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 and its Caenorhabditis elegans ortholog, SKN-1, are transcription factors that have a pivotal role in the oxidative stress response, cellular homeostasis, and organismal lifespan. Similar to other defense systems, the NRF2-mediated stress response is compromised in aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we report that the FDA approved drug hydralazine is a bona fide activator of the NRF2/SKN-1 signaling pathway. We demonstrate that hydralazine extends healthy lifespan (~25%) in wild type and tauopathy model C. elegans at least as effectively as other anti-aging compounds, such as curcumin and metformin. We show that hydralazine-mediated lifespan extension is SKN-1 dependent, with a mechanism most likely mimicking calorie restriction. Using both in vitro and in vivo models, we go on to demonstrate that hydralazine has neuroprotective properties against endogenous and exogenous stressors. Our data suggest that hydralazine may be a viable candidate for the treatment of age-related disorders.

Abstract
Background and Objective: This study investigates epidemiologic and practical information about the incidence and risk factors of childhood cancer in a population of Southern Iranian children. Materials and Methods: A total number of 300 cancer patients along with 600 age- and gender-matched healthy control were interviewed by a trained physician regarding their demographic characteristics, and major family-associated risk factors, childhood malignancies. Results: The average annual percentage change for cancers in the studied population is calculated as 45%. Our study indicated that possible risk factors which could contribute to the development of childhood cancer are maternal oral contraceptive pill use during pregnancy, exposure to radiation during pregnancy, parental smoking, residence near high voltage electricity lines, exposure to pesticides and fertilizers, patient allergy, contact with domestic animals and father's educational degree. Furthermore, new ecological risk factors such as air pollution due to nonstandard petroleum or toxic inhalant particles, nonhealthy food consumption, and satellite jamming are other predisposing factors. Conclusion: Our study reported a higher average annual percentage change of childhood cancers in our area, compared to the existing literature. In conclusion, detection and prevention of the consistent and possible new environmental risk factors such as nonstandard petroleum or satellite jamming from all around the country should be taking into consideration.

Abstract
Purpose
Knowledge is a key driver for the competitive success of organizations, but about 90 percent of organizational knowledge is inside employees’ minds with personal essence; therefore, this paper provides valuable vision for managers by exploring knowledge acquisition (KA) techniques and personality type. The purpose of this paper is to examine KA techniques and explore the impact of personality type on the KA process in the aerospace industry.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper examines KA techniques through an empirical study involving 83 participants to take part in KA sessions. For exploring techniques, a questionnaire was used, and also the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was used to identify participants’ personality type. The impact of personality type on KA processes was determined by correlation analysis.
Findings
Analyses confirmed some association between the type of personality and KA process. In addition, the findings of exploring questionnaire items showed that participants gave the laddering technique the highest rating.
Originality/value
The paper may be of high value to researchers in the field of KA, especially in aerospace industries, because there is very little experimental investigation of KA, and it also provides valuable information and guidelines that hopefully will help researchers to select appropriate KA techniques.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the relationship between personality traits (introversion versus extroversion) and knowledge acquisition (KA) techniques.
Design/methodology/approach
The major methodology of the current study is survey. Results are based on 152 usable responses provided by experts in different industries including electronic, communication, information technology, computer and biology. The major analytical technique used is Pearson correlation analysis.
Findings
According to the results, there are significant relationships between personality traits (i.e. introversion versus extroversion) and KA techniques.
Research limitations/implications
This study was conducted on data from 152 Iranian experts which limits the generalizability of the results. This limitation can be addressed by future studies conducting similar studies on cross-country samples. Further, due to the analytical technique adopted in this study, causality implications cannot be drawn from the results.
Originality/value
This study reveals linkages between personality traits (i.e. introversion versus extroversion) and KA techniques. Results shed light on the KA process for both scholars and practitioners involved in KA programs in the organizations.

Abstract
Pulmonary mucormycosis is a rare but fatal condition that frequently occurs in immunocompromised patients. Correct diagnosis and rapid start of preferred antifungal treatment need clinical suspicion. Patient's symptoms may be confluent with other conditions such as bacterial and other fungal infections. We present a case of pulmonary mucormycosis in a patient with end stage renal disease successfully treated with a long course of amphotericin B deoxycholate (AmB) and upper lobectomy of the left lung despite of low pulmonary capacity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is believed that religious leaders' positive attitude towards organ donation can be an effective factor in Muslims' inclination to donate organs. OBJECTIVE To assess the knowledge of freshmen students in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences about religious leaders' fatwa on organ donation and its effect on their willingness to donate organs. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2013 on 400 freshmen of various medical disciplines, selected using a simple random sampling in Mashhad, Iran. Data were collected by a valid and reliable researcher-made questionnaire. Data were analyzed by multiple logistic regression analysis. RESULTS 41.5% of the students were aware of religious authorities' views on organ donation and 55.6% were willing to donate organs. Participants' main reasons for lack of willingness to donate organs included the fear of organ donation before the brain death is confirmed (52%), unwillingness to disfigure their body (51%), and belief in the burial of organs (50%). The willingness to organ donation for students who were aware of religious leaders opinion was more than twice more than those who were not (OR: 2.56, 95% CI: 1.75-4.52). Also, female gender, the Shia religion and awareness of the correct definition of brain death were associated factors affecting the desire to donate organs, although their effects were not statistically significant on regression model. CONCLUSION A considerable proportion of students were not aware of the religious leaders' fatwa on organ donation. The most important factor for the desire to donate organs was the awareness of religious leaders' fatwa. Therefore, it seems necessary that religious leaders' fatwa be known to all by appropriate methods.

Abstract
This paper presents an efficient method for identification of nonlinear Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) systems in the presence of colored noises. The method studies the multivariable nonlinear Hammerstein and Wiener models, in which, the nonlinear memory-less block is approximated based on arbitrary vector-based basis functions. The linear time-invariant (LTI) block is modeled by an autoregressive moving average with exogenous (ARMAX) model which can effectively describe the moving average noises as well as the autoregressive and the exogenous dynamics. According to the multivariable nature of the system, a pseudo-linear-in-the-parameter model is obtained which includes two different kinds of unknown parameters, a vector and a matrix. Therefore, the standard least squares algorithm cannot be applied directly. To overcome this problem, a Hierarchical Least Squares Iterative (HLSI) algorithm is used to simultaneously estimate the vector and the matrix of unknown parameters as well as the noises. The efficiency of the proposed identification approaches are investigated through three nonlinear MIMO case studies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Nutrients and antioxidants in the medium of immature oocyte have a profound effect on maturation, fertilization and development of resulting embryos. In this study the effects of melatonin as an antioxidant agent on maturation, glutathione level and expression of High mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) gene were evaluated in immature oocytes of mice stained with brilliant cresyl blue (BCB). MATERIALS AND METHODS In this experimental study, immature oocytes were harvested from ovaries of Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice. Oocytes were stained with 26 μM BCB for 90 minutes and transferred to in vitro maturation medium containing varying doses of melatonin (10-12, 10-9, 10-6, 10-3 M) and without melatonin, for 22-24 hours. Maturation was monitored using an inverted microscope. Glutathione was assessed by monochlorobimane (MCB) staining and HMGB1 expression in mature oocyte was analyzed using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). RESULTS Melatonin in the concentration of 10-6 M had the most effect on maturation and HMGB1 expression of BCB+ oocytes (p<0.05). Meanwhile melatonin had no effects on glutathione levels. Additionally in immature BCB- oocytes, compared to the control group, melatonin did not affect cytoplasm maturation (p>0.05). CONCLUSION In vitro treatment with melatonin increases the maturation and HMGB1 expression in BCB+ immature oocytes and has no significant effect on glutathione levels.

Abstract
Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) has a role in β- cell destruction in autoimmune diabetes by stimulating the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) that generates the free radical nitric oxide. We aimed to investigate the effect of Achillea millefolium L, as a traditional hypoglycemic agent, on IL-1β and iNOS gene expression of pancreatic tissue in the STZ- induced diabetic rats. Forty adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: 1. diabetic control; 2. diabetic rats treated with Achillea millefolium L. extract; 3. normal rats received only extract and 4. negative control (n= 10 each). Diabetes was induced by single i.p. injection of 45 mg/ kg streptozotocin (STZ). Rats in groups 2 and 3 were treated with i.p. injection of Achillea millefolium L. extract (100 mg/ kg/ day) for 14 days. Body weight, serum glucose and insulin levels were assayed at baseline and on days 3, 7, 10 and 14 of the experiment. Finally, the quantity of pancreatic IL-1β and iNOS mRNA was determined by real- time PCR. The mRNA expression level of IL-1β and iNOS genes, was significantly (p<0.001) increased in diabetic rats of group 1. Treatment with Achillea millefolium L. caused a significant (p<0.01) reduction in both IL-1β and iNOS genes expression. Moreover, rats in group 2 had higher insulin level associated with lower glucose level and higher body weight compared to control diabetic group. It seems that beneficial effect of Achillea millefolium L. on STZ- induced diabetes is at least partly due to amelioration of IL-1β and iNOS gene over expression which can have a β-cell protective effect.
