Abstract
Globally tropical Scleractinian corals have been a focal point for discussions on the impact of a changing climate on marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Research into tropical Scleractinian corals, particularly the role and breakdown of photoendosymbiosis in response to warming, has been prolific in recent decades. However, research into their subtropical, temperate, cold- and deep-water counterparts, whose number is dominated by corals without photoendosymbiosis, has not been as prolific. Approximately 50% of Scleractinian corals (> 700 species) do not maintain photoendosymbiosis and as such, do not rely upon the products of photosynthesis for homeostasis. Some species also have variable partnerships with photendosymbionts depending on life history and ecological niche. Here we undertake a systematic map of literature on Scleractinian corals without, or with variable, photoendosymbiosis. In doing so we identify 482 publications spanning 5 decades. In mapping research effort, we find publications have been sporadic over time, predominately focusing on a limited number of species, with greater research effort directed towards deep-water species. We find only 141 species have been studied, with approximately 30% of the total identified research effort directed toward a single species, Desmophyllum pertusum, highlighting significant knowledge gaps into Scleractinian diversity. We find similar limitations to studied locations, with 78 identified from the global data, of which only few represent most research outputs. We also identified inconsistencies with terminology used to describe Scleractinia without photoendosymbiosis, likely contributing to difficulties in accounting for their role and contribution to marine ecosystems. We propose that the terminology requires re-evaluation to allow further systematic assessment of literature, and to ensure it's consistent with changes implemented for photoendosymbiotic corals. Finally, we find that knowledge gaps identified over 20 years ago are still present for most aphotoendosymbiotic Scleractinian species, and we show data deficiencies remain regarding their function, biodiversity and the impacts of anthropogenic stressors.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate adverse reactions to medications administered during palliative care and compare the responses of Board-Certified Pharmacists in Palliative Pharmacy (BCPPP) and non-BCPPP professionals. Methods: This multicentre prospective survey included hospital and community pharmacists who are members of the Japanese Society for Pharmaceutical Palliative Care and Sciences. Study participants included patients who experienced new drug reactions during the study period and responded to the requested survey items. The follow-up period for each eligible patient began on the day the pharmacists initiated the intervention and ended at discharge, death, or after one month of intervention. The primary endpoint was the impact of pharmacist intervention on adverse drug reactions. The pharmacists included in the study evaluated the severity of adverse drug reactions to assess the effect of their intervention using an integrated palliative care outcome scale before and after the intervention. Key findings: During the survey period, 79 adverse drug reaction intervention reports from 69 patients were obtained from 54 pharmacists (28 certified and 26 non-certified). The response rate was 1.62% (54/3,343). The management of palliative pharmacotherapy side effects by BCPPP and non-BCPPP significantly improved the patients' activities of daily living (P < 0.001). The BCPPP group intervened for significantly more patients with adverse drug reactions and overall adverse drug reactions than the non-BCPPP group (P < 0.023 and P < 0.013, respectively). Conclusion: BCPPP interventions can improve symptom management.

Abstract
For flexible and highly ionized macromolecules such as DNA, it is important to correctly evaluate the intramolecular polarization in an induced dipole force field. In a proposed polarizable molecular block (PMB) model, a large molecule is divided into several molecular blocks. The atomic charges of the blocks are optimized by using the respective electrostatic potentials (ESPs) on the molecular surface. By using the capped hydrogen removal operation, the total charge of the blocks is controlled exactly to have an integer charge. The atomic polarizabilities of the blocks are optimized by using the respective polarized one-electron potentials that are the differences between ESPs with and without an external test charge. Induced dipole-charge interactions between the blocks are all included, but those interactions within the blocks are strictly excluded. All dipole-dipole interactions are included, but the damping functions are applied to the close dipole-dipole pairs. Several types of damping (simple scaling, exponential, linear, and Gaussian) are evaluated. The validity of the PMB model was verified by using trinucleotide duplexes which have A-, B-, and Z-DNA forms. The reference energies of trinucleotide duplexes including counterions (GGT3Na-ACC3Na, GAC3Na-GTC3Na, and GCG3Na-CGC3Na) are calculated using ωB97XD/aug-cc-pVDZ. All damping types reproduced well the reference interaction energies, dipole moments, and ESPs. Among them, the simple scaling with strong attenuation to 1-2 atomic pairs showed the highest stability against the polarization catastrophe. This study shows that it is possible to develop a high-quality polarizable force field by treating the intramolecular polarization on a block-by-block basis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND If complete obliteration of ruptured pediatric arteriovenous malformation (AVM) cannot be achieved, the appropriate follow-up duration and predictors of rebleeding remain unknown. OBSERVATIONS Pediatric patients with ruptured AVMs admitted to the authors' hospital within the past 30 years were evaluated. Rebleeding was confirmed in two patients. The first patient was a 5-year-old boy who experienced right thalamic hemorrhage. AVM was found in the bilateral thalamus and treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). New aneurysm formation and residual AVM regrowth were confirmed 21 years after the SRS. Eight months later, rebleeding occurred. The second patient was a 5-year-old boy who underwent removal of a left cerebellar hemorrhage and AVM. The residual AVM was treated with SRS. Residual AVM regrowth was detected at 6 years 7 months after SRS. Five months later, new aneurysm formation was confirmed. Two additional days later, rebleeding occurred. LESSONS New aneurysm formation and residual AVM regrowth may predict rebleeding and can occur >20 years after the initial rupture and treatment. If AVM obliteration is not achieved, long-term follow-up is needed, even in adulthood, with attention to new aneurysm formation and residual AVM regrowth. Further treatment is recommended if these findings are confirmed.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of seven-membered iminosugars derived from a 3S-acetamido-4R,5R,6S-trihydroxyazepane scaffold and their evaluation as inhibitors of functionally related exo-N-acetylhexosaminidases including human O-GlcNAcase (OGA), human lysosomal β-hexosaminidase (HexAB), and Escherichia coli NagZ. Capitalizing on the flexibility of azepanes and the active site tolerances of hexosaminidases, we explore the effects of epimerization of stereocenters at C-3, C-5 and C-6 and C-alkylation at the C-2 or C-7 positions. Accordingly, epimerization at C-6 (L-ido) and at C-5 (D-galacto) led to selective HexAB inhibitors whereas introduction of a propyl group at C-7 on the C-3 epimer furnished a potent NagZ inhibitor.

Abstract
It is well known that black and green tea extracts, particularly polyphenols, have antimicrobial activity against various pathogenic microbes including viruses. However, there is limited data on the antiviral activity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), which emerged rapidly in China in late 2019 and which has been responsible for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic globally. In this study, 20 compounds and three extracts were obtained from black and green tea and found that three tea extracts showed significant antiviral activity against SARS‐CoV‐2, whereby the viral titre decreased about 5 logs TCID50 per ml by 1·375 mg ml−1 black tea extract and two‐fold diluted tea bag infusion obtained from black tea when incubated at 25°C for 10 s. However, when concentrations of black and green tea extracts were equally adjusted to 344 µg ml−1, green tea extracts showed more antiviral activity against SARS‐CoV‐2. This simple and highly respected beverage may be a cheap and widely acceptable means to reduce SARS‐CoV‐2 viral burden in the mouth and upper gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts in developed as well as developing countries.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
The evolutionary conserved NEAT1-MALAT1 gene cluster encounters high interest in cardiovascular medicine and oncology. The cluster generates large primary transcripts which remain nuclear, whereas novel tRNA-like transcripts (mascRNA, menRNA) enzymatically generated from these precursors translocate to the cytosol. We previously found that NEAT1 and MALAT1 deficient mice display accelerated atherosclerosis and vascular inflammation due to immune dysfunctions.
Methods
While the previously investigated mice were deficient in the entire NEAT1 or MALAT1 locus, here we aimed to selectively disrupt only tRNA-like transcripts “menRNA” arising from NEAT1, or “mascRNA” arising from MALAT1. To none of these a biological function has been assigned so far. Both lncRNAs give rise to transcripts of vastly different size (NEAT1: 23kb MENb, 3.7kb MENe, 59nt “menRNA”; MALAT1: 8.3 kb primary, 59nt “mascRNA”), and traditional knockout methods are unable to selectively inactivate one of the small transcripts only. Through CRISPR/Cas9 editing we therefore developed human monocyte-macrophage cell lines with short deletions in the respective tRNA-encoding sequences to disrupt normal menRNA or mascRNA formation, respectively. These editing procedures do not affect transcription of the respective lncRNA parent transcripts, and also not disturb regular formation of the triple-helix structures at their 3'-ends which support stabilization of the respective lncRNAs (Fig. 1).
Results
We found the tRNA-like transcripts menRNA and mascRNA critically influence innate immunity and angiogenesis. In addition to common anomalies resulting from their selective CRISPR-Cas9 mediated deletion (Fig. 1), there are specific disturbances associated with either Δmasc or Δmen cells (Fig. 2).
Both ΔmascRNA and ΔmenRNA human monocytes show profoundly altered ribosomal RNA/protein and tRNA-modifying enzyme expression, display anomalous growth/ angiogenetic factor expression, fundamentally change angiogenetic patterns in co-cultures with human endothelial cells, and have gravely disturbed innate immune responses (LPS, DNA and RNA viruses) (Fig. 1).
CRISPR-engineered ΔmenRNA cells share remakable similarities with human post-MI PBMCs, suggesting the NEAT1-menRNA system may significantly contribute to post-MI residual inflammatory risk despite optimal standard therapy (Fig. 2).
Conclusions
Beyond prior work in knockout mice documenting immune function of the NEAT1-MALAT1 cluster, the current study identifies menRNA and mascRNA as important novel components of human innate immunity with relevance for angiogenetic processes. These data provide a second mechanistic link for the apparent relevance of the NEAT1-MALAT1 gene cluster in cardiovascular and malignant diseases. As prototypes of a novel class of small noncoding RNAs (distinct from miRNAs and siRNAs) they may constitute cytosolic therapeutic targets.

Abstract
Being able to identify trustworthy strangers is a critical social skill. However, whether such impressions are accurate is debatable. Critically, the field currently lacks a quantitative summary of the evidence. To address this gap, we conducted two meta-analyses. We tested whether there is a correlation between perceived and actual trustworthiness across faces, and whether perceivers show above-chance accuracy at assessing trustworthiness. Both meta-analyses revealed significant, modest accuracy (face level, r = .14; perceiver level, r = .27). Perceiver-level effects depended on domain, with aggressiveness and sexual unfaithfulness having stronger effects than agreeableness, criminality, financial reciprocity, and honesty. We also applied research weaving to map the literature, revealing potential biases, including a preponderance of Western studies, a lack of "cross-talk" between research groups, and clarity issues. Overall, this modest accuracy is unlikely to be of practical utility. Moreover, we strongly urge the field to improve reporting standards and generalizability of the results.

Abstract
The core light-harvesting complexes (LH1) in bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) b-containing purple phototrophic bacteria are characterized by a near-infrared absorption maximum around 1010 nm. The determinative cause for this ultra-redshift remains unclear. Here, we present results of circular dichroism (CD) and resonance Raman measurements on the purified LH1 complexes in a reaction center-associated form from a mesophilic and a thermophilic Blastochloris species. Both the LH1 complexes displayed purely positive CD signals for their Qy transitions, in contrast to those of BChl a-containing LH1 complexes. This may reflect differences in the conjugation system of the bacteriochlorin between BChl b and BChl a and/or the differences in the pigment organization between the BChl b- and BChl a-containing LH1 complexes. Resonance Raman spectroscopy revealed remarkably large redshifts of the Raman bands for the BChl b C3-acetyl group, indicating unusually strong hydrogen bonds formed with LH1 polypeptides, results that were verified by a published structure. A linear correlation was found between the redshift of the Raman band for the BChl C3-acetyl group and the change in LH1-Qy transition for all native BChl a- and BChl b-containing LH1 complexes examined. The strong hydrogen bonding and π-π interactions between BChl b and nearby aromatic residues in the LH1 polypeptides, along with the CD results, provide crucial insights into the spectral and structural origins for the ultra-redshift of the long-wavelength absorption maximum of BChl b-containing phototrophs.

Introduction
Cervical spine (c-spine) injury has a high morbidity and mortality in patients over the age of 65; more than 60% result from falls from standing height (Beedham et al., 2019).
The Canadian Cervical Spine Rule (Stiell et al., 2001) deems that there is a high risk of c-spine fracture if any of the following apply:
The c-spine cannot be cleared clinically if the patient fits any of the above criteria. Imaging should be considered. As a result of recent clinical experiences Trust Guidelines at Stoke Mandeville Hospital now reflect this evidence (Hadley et al., 2019).
Methods
Fifty patients over the age of 65 who had a computerised tomography (CT) head scan in the Emergency Department (ED) following a traumatic head injury were randomly selected over a 1 month period. Cases were checked for examination of c-spine and/or CT c-spine. Results of the first cycle of the audit were presented at an ED Education Meeting. Indications for CT c-spine were displayed in poster format around the ED. Following these interventions, a re-audit was carried out using the same methodology.
Results
In fifty patients aged over 65 attending ED during one month, 16% had a CT c-spine in addition to a CT head. There was documented c-spine examination of 16% of those without CT c-spine on admission. In the re-audit 38% of the fifty patients who had a CT head underwent CT c-spine. In the group that did not have imaging of the c-spine, the proportion with documented cervical spine examination on admission remained the same (16%).
Conclusion
There was a 137.5% increase in the number of patients aged over 65 who appropriately underwent a CT c-spine as per Trust and National guidelines. Simple interventions (staff education and posters within the ED) were sufficient to significantly alter practice. Current trauma triage is not optimal for older patients who are reviewed by more junior doctors, less likely to be transferred to Major Trauma Centres and more likely to die than younger patients with similar injuries (Major Trauma In Older People 2017 Report). An older person’s trauma team in ED with age-appropriate triage would lead to appropriate imaging in a timely fashion, potentially improving the morbidity and mortality of these vulnerable patients.

Abstract
The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) started the Research and Development (R&D) to improve nuclear prediction techniques for High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs). The objectives are to introduce a generalized bias factor method to avoid full mock-up experiment for the first commercial HTGR and to introduce reactor noise analysis to High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) experiment to observe sub-criticality. To achieve the objectives, the reactor core of graphite-moderation system named B7/4”G2/8”p8EUNU+3/8”p38EU(1) was newly composed in the B-rack of Kyoto University Critical Assembly (KUCA). The core is composed of the fuel assembly, driver fuel assembly, graphite reflector, and polyethylene reflector. The fuel assembly is composed of enriched uranium plate, natural uranium plate and graphite plates to realize the average fuel enrichment of HTTR and it’s spectrum. However, driver fuel assembly is necessary to achieve the criticality with the small-sized core. The core plays a role of the reference core of the bias factor method, and the reactor noise was measured to develop the noise analysis scheme. In this study, the overview of the criticality experiments is reported. The reactor configuration with graphite moderation system is rare case in the KUCA experiments, and this experiment is expected to contribute not only for an HTGR development but also for other types of a reactor in the graphite moderation system such as a molten salt reactor development.

BACKGROUND
Intracranial Growing teratoma syndrome(iGTS) is a phenomenon in which a tumor with a teratoma component grows during treatment, and its pathological tissue is often a mature teratoma. Here we report a case of iGTS in which the timing of surgery was determined by tumor markers and changes in tumor size on MRI images. CASE-REPORT: 11-year-old boy with a short stature. He developed a headache and we found a pineal gland tumor on MRI. Due to obstructive hydrocephalus, an endoscopic third ventriculostomy and biopsy were performed. The pathological diagnosis was mature teratoma, but AFP was elevated at 104.2 ng/mL. Considering NGGCT, we started chemoradiation immediately. Despite the declining AFP, it gradually increased, at which point we suspected iGTS. Resection was considered, but at some point tumor growth had stopped, so radiation therapy and a second course of ICE therapy preceded the resection. Thereafter, the tumor was completely removed, and a third course of ICE therapy was performed.
DISCUSSION
The onset mechanism of iGTS has not been elucidated, and its prediction is difficult. Early resection of the tumor is required, but discontinuation of radiation therapy and side effects of chemotherapy also need to be considered. In our case, resection was performed after normalization of AFP and recovery of myelosuppression. The patient followed an uneventful course, but the timing of resection was controversial.
CONCLUSION
We experienced a case of iGTS in NGGCT, a mixed tumor with mature teratoma. The optimal timing of the resection was discussed and literature was reviewed.

Abstract
Objective Vascular injuries are severe complications associated with endovascular thrombectomy. In the present study, we evaluated the re-sheathing technique with the Solitaire stent retrieval system to overcome these complications. Methods We examined the diameter and resistance to retrieval of the Solitaire FR device (6 × 20 mm) during full and partial deployment in vitro model. We also examined a representative case in which the re-sheathing technique was used. Results We found that the Solitaire device spread elliptically during partial deployment. As the length of the partially deployed device decreased, the maximum diameter also decreased. The distal half of the stent retained 80% of the maximum diameter of the partially deployed Solitaire. The resistance to retrieval was significantly higher during full deployment (mean ± standard deviation; 0.32 ± 0.04 kg) than during half deployment (0.22 ± 0.04 kg) (Mann-Whitney U test; p = 0.006). The re-sheathing technique was used in the representative case due to the high resistance to retrieval, which enabled recanalization without extravasation. Conclusion In cases of high resistance to retrieval, minimal re-sheathing may be useful for capturing the thrombus without increasing the risk of vascular injury.

Abstract
Objective Direct traumatic carotid-cavernous fisulas (dtCCFs) exhibit a high blood flow velocity and are often difficult to be treated. We report three dtCCF cases in which disappearance of the dtCCF and preservation of the internal carotid artery (ICA) were achieved by stent-assisted coil embolization of the fistula. We report these cases and compare them with those previously reported using other treatments. Case Presentations In the first case, we performed coil embolization without stenting for the initial treatment. The cerebral venous reflux disappeared and the patient's symptoms were temporarily ameliorated. However, 5 months after treatment, an aneurysm-like finding around the fistula was noted on MRA. Additional coils and insertion of a neck-bridging stent were required to obliterate the dtCCF and the symptoms disappeared. In the second and third cases, we intended to use stents initially to achieve tight embolization of the fistulas, and obliteration was achieved. Conclusion Use of neck-bridging stenting for dtCCFs may be a reliable method to preserve the parent artery while achieving tight packing around the fistula.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the antenatal diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). MATERIALS AND METHODS Data from 95 patients with placenta previa or low-lying placenta who underwent MRI at Osaka University Hospital for the antenatal diagnosis of PAS between January 2013 and December 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. The antenatal MRI signs suggesting PAS were assessed. Patients were divided into two groups depending on whether they were diagnosed with PAS. Factors that affected PAS diagnosis were identified using multivariate analysis. RESULTS The diagnostic accuracy of MRI for detecting PAS was as follows: 71.4% sensitivity, 96.4% specificity, and area under the curve (AUC) of 0.839 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.73-0.91). The diagnostic accuracy was lower in patients with in-vitro fertilisation with embryo transfer (IVF-ET): 22.2% sensitivity, 93.3% specificity, and AUC=0.578 (95% CI: 0.417-0.724). On multivariate analysis, only IVF-ET showed a significant association with false-positive or -negative MRI diagnosis of PAS (adjusted odds ratio: 26.5; 95% CI: 2.42-289.4; p=0.007). CONCLUSION IVF-ET affects the antenatal diagnosis of PAS using MRI.

Abstract
An isolate originally obtained from pond water in Osaka in 1992 and identified as Pythium marsipium, was subsequently classified as Globisporangium marsipium. According to molecular phylogenetic analyses based on the internal transcribed spacer regions of the nuclear ribosomal RNA and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 genes, this isolate was shown to represent a new species, described here as G. lacustre sp. nov. In addition, two further new combinations are introduced in Globisporangium as G. camurandrum and G. takayamanum based on their DNA phylogeny.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The occurrence of sacral dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) is rare. The detailed vascular architecture of sacral dAVF, including 3-dimensional (3D) angiographic images with operative findings, has not been evaluated compared with that of the thoracic and lumbar levels. We report a case of sacral dAVF with 3D angiographic examination and operative findings, with a literature review. CASE DESCRIPTION A 60-year-old man presented with progressive urinary incontinence and gait disturbance. A sacral dAVF was detected at the S1-2 level. The shunt point was at the medial side of the line between the intermediate sacral crest and the most medial point of the L5 pedicle circle at the anterior posterior view of the angiography; we defined this type as the medial type. After embolization, latent inflow arteries were visualized ipsilaterally and contralaterally. During surgery, because of dAVF recurrence, a vascular tangle was found on the dura. The surgical interruption of the draining vein improved the patient's symptoms. From the literature review, 92% of cases had medial-type shunt point. It is possible for sacral dAVF to have multiple inflow arteries originating ipsilaterally or bilaterally, and a venous pouch. CONCLUSIONS The shunt point of sacral dAVF tended to be located medially, not in the sacral foramen. Sacral dAVF has unique angioarchitecture. The differentiation of dAVF from epidural arteriovenous fistula may not be easy in some cases of sacral lesions. Therefore, further studies with a larger number of patients focused on the detailed vascular architecture are needed.

Abstract
AIM Patient body composition is an important indicator of metabolic status and is associated with cancer progression. Because body composition varies between men and women, we aimed to examine the difference in clinical impact of preoperative body composition according to sex. METHOD We used an integrated dataset of 559 colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. The association between preoperative body composition indices [body mass index (BMI), visceral to subcutaneous fat area ratio (VSR) and skeletal muscle index (SMI)] and patient outcome, clinicopathological factors and preoperative inflammation and nutritional status was analysed, comparing men and women. RESULTS Preoperative low BMI and low SMI in men was significantly associated with unfavourable overall survival (OS) [BMI: hazard ratio (HR) 2.22, 95% CI 1.28-4.14, P = 0.004; SMI: HR 2.54, 95% CI 1.61-4.07, P < 0.001] and high VSR in women was significantly associated with unfavourable OS (HR 1.79, 95% CI 1.03-3.02, P = 0.040). Additionally, low SMI in men was significantly associated with deeper tumour invasion and greater distant metastasis and high VSR in women was significantly associated with advanced age, right-sided tumour, lower total lymphocyte count and lower albumin levels. Interestingly, low BMI in men was significantly associated with deeper tumour invasion, but also with favourable inflammation and nutritional status (lower C-reactive protein and higher albumin). CONCLUSION The clinical impact of preoperative body composition differed between men and women: SMI in men and VSR in women were good prognosticators. Our findings may provide a novel insight for CRC treatment strategies.

Abstract
Gels are a soft elastic material consisting of a three-dimensional polymer network with nanometer-sized pores and are used in a variety of applications. However, gel networks typically have a substantial level of defects because the network formation reaction proceeds stochastically. In this study, we present a general scheme to fabricate gels with extremely low levels of defects by applying geometric constraints into pregel solution based on the "bond percolation" concept. In the formed gel, stationary laser speckles, which are an indicator of spatial defects, were not observed at all. In addition, we found that the concentration fluctuations of the polymer chains were ergodic across the whole gel network. In such a homogeneous gel, both the spatial and temporal correlations of polymer chains are the same before and after gelation.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most common cause of death in developed countries, and substantial overlap exist in their medical care. However, the detailed and updated information on outcome of cancer patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), particularly in clinically significant coronary artery disease (CAD) remain unknown.
Purpose
We sought to describe the prevalence and long-term outcomes of cancer patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), which has become a coronerstone in the management of CVD.
Methods
Patient data extracted from a regional prospectiveprocedure-based multicenter registry for PCI was analyzed. A total of 4,455 patients who underwent PCI at 15 hospitals within metropolitan Tokyo from September 2008 to 2012 were followed for 2 years. “Active” cancer patient was defined as having a history of cancer not cured or in remission. We analyzed in acute and stable presentation.The occurrence of clinical outcomes was assessed via Kaplan-Meier survival curve, and Cox-regression hazard model to adjust for known clinical predictors.
Results
Within the studied patients, 173 (3.9%) had a concomitant “active” cancer at the time of intervention. There was a significant difference between the patients with and without active cancer in each situation. In stable presentation, cancer group were older, lower BMI, frequently had silent ischemia, COPD and cerebrovascular/peripheral disease, and less often had dyslipidemia compared with non-cancer group. In acute presentation, cancer group were older, frequently had COPD, CKD, peripheral disease and history of HF compared with non-cancer group. The prescription rate of RAAS inhibitor was lower in the cancer group than in the non-cancer group in acute presentation. Notably, in both acute and stable presentation, these patients had significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR 8.01: 95%, p<0.001 and HR5.53: 95%, p<0.001, respectively), and they were also at higher risk of major cardo- and cerebrovascular events (MACCE; HR2.38, p<0.001, HR2.33, p=0.001), when referenced to non-cancer patients after 2 year of follow-up.
Conclusion
Cancer patient was present in 3.9% of all PCI patients and was strongly associated with both non-cardiac and cardiac adverse events.

Background
Heart failure (HF) is a common complication within the clinical spectrum of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM-related HF is recognized to be multifactorial, including outflow obstruction, diastolic dysfunction, or progression to end-stage; however, prognostic predictors of HF events are not fully understood. We sought to investigate predictors for various HF outcomes in HCM.
Methods
We studied 289 consecutive HCM patients with EF≥50%. Patients with outflow obstruction (peak pressure gradient ≥30mmHg) were defined as obstructive HCM. HF events assessed in this study were 1) HF admission and 2) progression to end-stage (EF<50%).
Results
The mean age was 63±16 years, 53% male, EF 61±5%, NYHA class 1.8±0.7, and 39% obstructive. During a median follow up of 5.2 [3.7–7.0] years, 48 HF admission and 19 progression to end-stage were observed. Only 8/48 (17%) patients with HF admission had progressed to end-stage; while 11/19 (58%) patients with progression to end-stage remained free from HF admission. Univariate Cox regression hazard analysis showed different prognostic predictors between HF admission and progression to end-stage (Table). Multivariate Cox regression hazard analysis showed atrial fibrillation was an independent predictor of HF admission (adjusted HR 2.711 [1.094–7.389], P=0.031); while LV end-systolic dimension was an independent predictor of progression to end-stage (adjusted HR 1.114 [1.018–1.229], P=0.025).

Conclusions

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Inflammation is a key driver of atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction (MI), and beyond proteins and microRNAs, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in inflammation control. To obtain further information on the role of lncRNAs in the context of atherosclerosis, we analyzed transcriptome maps of circulating immune cells (PBMCs) of post-MI patients in whom the lncRNA NEAT1 was suppressed. Here, we report immune disturbances in murine NEAT1 knockout models with wildtype or ApoE−/− genetic background.
Methods and results
RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) of PBMCs from post-MI patients revealed profound transcriptome disturbances compared to healthy controls. Among these, NEAT1 suppression was notable since it affected the most highly expressed lncRNA as part of a molecular circuit also encompassing chemokines and interleukins.
We used NEAT1−/− mice to evaluate whether NEAT1 depletion per se may cause immune dysfunction. NEAT1−/− splenocytes displayed enhanced baseline ROS production, and RNA-seq identified anomalous expression and regulation of chemokines/ receptors, innate immunity genes, TNF and caspases. FACS revealed displayed anomalous Treg and TH cell differentiation in NEAT1−/− spleens vs. wildtype (WT).
Beyond grossly altered transcriptome, NEAT1−/− bone marrow derived macrophages (BMDMs) responded to LPS with increased (p<0.001) ROS production, enhanced baseline phagocytic activity (p<0.001), and attenuated proliferation (p=0.001). FACS revealed deregulated monocyte-macrophage differentiation in NEAT1−/− bone marrow and blood.
Further, NEAT1−/− mice displayed aortic wall CD68+ cell infiltration and there was evidence of myocardial inflammation which could lead to severe and potentially life-threatening structural damage in some of these animals. This observation suggests that even stochastic activation of the highly unstable NEAT1−/− immune system may trigger uncontrolled pathogenic cascades, explaining the survival disadvantage of NEAT1−/− mice.
In addition to these studies on homozygous NEAT1−/− deficiency in WT background, we obtained data on mice with partial i.e. heterozygous NEAT1−/+ deficiency on ApoE−/− background. Analysis of this new NEAT1−/+ ApoE−/− strain indicates that even partial NEAT1 deficiency leads to systemic inflammation with high IFN-gamma levels, when the animals are exposed to immune stress e.g. high LDL cholesterol.
Conclusions
Regarding the monocyte-enriched NEAT1 suppressed in post-MI PBMCs, the data from NEAT1−/− and NEAT1−/+ ApoE−/− mice document NEAT1 as a key immune system coordinator whose deficiency affects monocyte-macrophage and T cell differentiation and functions and renders the immune system unstable and highly vulnerable to immune stress. Since in patients NEAT1 is part of a molecular circuit persistently deregulated post-MI, too, it appears reasonable to further search for new therapeutic targets within this circuit, taking advantage of the described genetic animal models.

Abstract
A prototypical electron-doped iron-based superconductor $LaFeAsO_{1-x}H_x$ undergoes an antiferromagnetic (AF) phase for $x \geq 0.49$. We performed NMR measurements on $LaFeAsO_{0.4}H_{0.6}$ at 3.7 GPa to investigate the magnetic properties in the vicinity of a pressure-induced QCP. The linewidth of $~^1H$-NMR spectra broadens at low temperatures below 30 K, suggesting that the ordered spin moments remain at 3.7 GPa. The coexistence of gapped and gapless spin excitations was confirmed in the ordered state from the relaxation time $T_1$ of $~^{75}As$. The pressure-induced QCP is estimated to be 4.1 GPa from the pressure dependence of the gapped excitation.

Abstract
AIM Preoperative anaemia is associated with adverse outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC). To clarify the reason for this we aimed to comprehensively assess the association of preoperative anaemia with tumour characteristics, host systemic inflammation and nutrition status, and perioperative blood transfusion. METHOD We used an integrated database of 592 CRC patients. The association of preoperative anaemic subtype, calculated from haemoglobin and erythrocyte mean corpuscular volume levels, with patient outcome, preoperative serum data relating to systemic inflammation and nutrition and perioperative blood transfusion was analysed. RESULTS Preoperative anaemia was significantly associated with poorer overall survival and relapse-free survival (RFS); in particular microcytic anaemia had a trend to poorer RFS than other forms of anaemia (P = 0.0648). In addition, preoperative anaemia was significantly correlated with right-sided tumours, greater depth of tumour invasion, use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, poorer prognostic nutritional index and higher modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS). Microcytic anaemia in particular had a strong association with a greater depth of tumour invasion (P = 0.0072) and higher mGPS (P = 0.0058) than other causes of anaemia. Perioperative blood transfusion for CRC patients with anaemia was associated with adverse outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Preoperative anaemia, especially microcytic anaemia, was associated with poor patient outcomes, possibly due to poor systemic inflammatory and nutritional status, and it was not improved by perioperative blood transfusion. Our data suggest that preoperative anaemia and the anaemic subtype may serve as an easily available predictor of outcome in CRC.

Abstract
Behavioural and cognitive processes play important roles in mediating an individual's interactions with its environment. Yet, while there is a vast literature on repeatable individual differences in behaviour, relatively little is known about the repeatability of cognitive performance. To further our understanding of the evolution of cognition, we gathered 44 studies on individual performance of 25 species across six animal classes and used meta-analysis to assess whether cognitive performance is repeatable. We compared repeatability (R) in performance (1) on the same task presented at different times (temporal repeatability), and (2) on different tasks that measured the same putative cognitive ability (contextual repeatability). We also addressed whether R estimates were influenced by seven extrinsic factors (moderators): type of cognitive performance measurement, type of cognitive task, delay between tests, origin of the subjects, experimental context, taxonomic class and publication status. We found support for both temporal and contextual repeatability of cognitive performance, with mean R estimates ranging between 0.15 and 0.28. Repeatability estimates were mostly influenced by the type of cognitive performance measures and publication status. Our findings highlight the widespread occurrence of consistent inter-individual variation in cognition across a range of taxa which, like behaviour, may be associated with fitness outcomes.This article is part of the theme issue 'Causes and consequences of individual differences in cognitive abilities'.

Abstract
Fewer women than men pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), despite girls outperforming boys at school in the relevant subjects. According to the 'variability hypothesis', this over-representation of males is driven by gender differences in variance; greater male variability leads to greater numbers of men who exceed the performance threshold. Here, we use recent meta-analytic advances to compare gender differences in academic grades from over 1.6 million students. In line with previous studies we find strong evidence for lower variation among girls than boys, and of higher average grades for girls. However, the gender differences in both mean and variance of grades are smaller in STEM than non-STEM subjects, suggesting that greater variability is insufficient to explain male over-representation in STEM. Simulations of these differences suggest the top 10% of a class contains equal numbers of girls and boys in STEM, but more girls in non-STEM subjects.

Abstract
This paper explores the computer modelling aided design and synthesis of β-N-acetylhexosaminidase inhibitors along with their applicability to human disease treatment through biological evaluation in both an enzymatic and cellular setting. We investigated the importance of individual stereocenters, variations in structure-activity relationships along with factors influencing cell penetration. To achieve these goals we modified nitrogen heterocycles in terms of ring size, side chains present and ring nitrogen derivatization. By reducing the inhibitor interactions with the active site down to the essentials we were able to determine that besides the established 2S,3R trans-relationship, the presence and stereochemistry of the CH2OH side chain is of crucial importance for activity. In terms of cellular penetration, N-butyl side chains favour cellar uptake, while hydroxy- and carboxy-group bearing sidechains on the ring nitrogen retarded cellular penetration. Furthermore we show an early proof of principle study that β-N-acetylhexosaminidase inhibitors can be applicable to use in a potential anti-invasive anti-cancer strategy.

Abstract
Nutritional environments, particularly those experienced during early life, are hypothesized to affect longevity. A recent cross-taxa meta-analysis found that, depending upon circumstance, average longevity may be increased or decreased by early-life dietary restriction. Unstudied are the effects of diet during development on among-individual variance in longevity. Here, we address this issue using emerging methods for meta-analysis of variance. We found that, in general, standard deviation (s.d.) in longevity is around 8% higher under early-life dietary restriction than a standard diet. The effects became especially profound when dietary insults were experienced prenatally (s.d. increased by 29%) and/or extended into adulthood (s.d. increased by 36.6%). Early-life dietary restriction may generate variance in longevity as a result of increased variance in resource acquisition or allocation, but the mechanisms underlying these largely overlooked patterns clearly warrant elucidation.

Abstract
How has evolution led to the variation in behavioural phenotypes (personalities) in a population? Knowledge of whether personality is heritable, and to what degree it is influenced by the social environment, is crucial to understanding its evolutionary significance, yet few estimates are available from natural populations. We tracked three behavioural traits during different life-history stages in a pedigreed population of wild house sparrows. Using a quantitative genetic approach, we demonstrated heritability in adult exploration, and in nestling activity after accounting for fixed effects, but not in adult boldness. We did not detect maternal effects on any traits, but we did detect a social brood effect on nestling activity. Boldness, exploration and nestling activity in this population did not form a behavioural syndrome, suggesting that selection could act independently on these behavioural traits in this species, although we found no consistent support for phenotypic selection on these traits. Our work shows that repeatable behaviours can vary in their heritability and that social context influences personality traits. Future efforts could separate whether personality traits differ in heritability because they have served specific functional roles in the evolution of the phenotype or because our concept of personality and the stability of behaviour needs to be revised.

Abstract
The primary photochemical reaction of the light, oxygen, and voltage (LOV) domain of the blue-light photosensor YtvA of Bacillus subtilis were investigated using high-level QM(DFT/MRCI)/MM methods. After blue-light excitation, the Sγ atom of the reactive cysteine forms a covalent bond with the C4a of the flavin mononucleotide (FMN) ring. Two conformations for the side chain of reactive cysteine with occupancies of 70% (conf A) and 30% (conf B) are observed in the X-ray crystallographic structures of the YtvA-LOV ( Möglich , A. ; Moffat , K. J. Mol. Biol. 2007 , 373 , 112 - 126 ). In conf A, the thiol group is directed toward the dimethylbenzene moiety of the FMN ring whereas it is placed directly above the N5 atom of the FMN ring in conf B. Starting from both conformations, the singlet and triplet excited pathways were evaluated. The singlet states excited from conf A decay nonradiatively to the triplet states by intersystem crossing (ISC). After the formation of a neutral biradical, the triplet states cross over to the electronic ground state by a second ISC and the adducts are efficiently formed. The singlet states excited from conf B are located near the S1/S0 conical intersection (CIn). A major fraction returns to the initial states through the CIn. The rest may directly reach the adduct state. Thus, the photoexcitation has a dual reaction pathway. In YtvA-LOV, it is inferred that the efficient triplet excitation from conf A was chosen by bypassing the less efficient singlet excitation from conf B.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are considered to be the 'gold standards' for synthesizing research evidence in particular areas of enquiry. However, such reviews are only useful if they themselves are conducted to a sufficiently high standard. The aim of this study was to conduct a narrative meta-review of existing analyses of the effectiveness of interventions designed for children with developmental co-ordination disorder (DCD). METHODS A narrative meta-review of systematic and meta-analytic reviews aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of intervention for children with DCD was conducted on studies published between 1950 and 2014. We identified suitable reviews, using a modification of the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) system and evaluated their methodological quality using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR). In addition, the consistency of the quality of evidence and classification of intervention approaches was assessed independently by two assessors. RESULTS The literature search yielded a total of four appropriate reviews published in the selected time span. The Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews percentage quality scores assigned to each review ranged from 0% (low quality) to 55% (medium quality). Evaluation of the quality of evidence and classification of intervention approaches yielded a discrepancy rate of 25%. All reviews concluded that some kind of intervention was better than none at all. CONCLUSIONS Although the quality of the reviews progressively improved over the years, the shortcomings identified need to be addressed before concrete evidence regarding the best approach to intervention for children with DCD can be specified.
