Abstract
Ocular candidiasis is a major complication of candidemia that is sometimes sight-threatening. Although prompt ophthalmologic consultation and antifungal medication have been emphasized, recent changes in the causative species and drug susceptibilities make the picture unclear. This study aimed to determine whether there are trends among patients with ocular candidiasis and included 80 patients with candidemia who underwent ophthalmological screening at our hospital between 2010 and 2020. Data on the clinical characteristics, comorbidities, biochemical test results, causative Candida species, treatment, outcomes, visual acuity, and antifungal susceptibility were collected and analyzed. Statistical analyses were performed by comparing two groups, namely, the ocular candidiasis (n = 29) and non-ocular candidiasis (n = 51) groups. In the ocular candidiasis group, there were significantly more cases of central venous catheter insertion (82.8%, p = 0.026) and Candida albicans candidemia (72.4%, p < 0.001). Regarding ocular involvement, the majority of patients were asymptomatic. Most cases improved with antifungal therapy, but one case underwent vitrectomy. Between 2016 and 2020, there was a diversification of species, with a decrease in Candida parapsilosis and the emergence of Candida glabrata and Candida tropicalis. Regarding drug susceptibility, the minimum inhibitory concentrations of echinocandin and 5-fluorocytosine against Candida albicans, Candida parapsilosis, and Candida glabrata were slightly increased. In conclusion, in addition to appropriately performing ophthalmologic examinations, it is beneficial to select antifungal agents according to the diversity of species and drug susceptibilities.

Abstract
Odontogenic fibroma is a rare benign mesenchymal odontogenic tumor, with its histological diversity possibly posing diagnostic challenges. A case of the amyloid variant of central odontogenic fibroma, with epithelial cells in perineural and intraneural locations, is reported herein. The 46-year-old female patient had experienced discomfort related to her anterior right hard palate for approximately 25 years. Clinical examination revealed a depression in the anterior hard palate, and radiographic examination showed a well-defined radiolucent lesion with root resorption of the adjacent teeth. Histologically, the well-circumscribed tumor was composed of hypocellular collagenous connective tissue with small islands of odontogenic epithelium. In addition, the juxta-epithelial deposition of amyloid globules without calcification and epithelial cells in perineural and intraneural locations were observed, which posed a diagnostic challenge in differentiating the lesion from the non-calcifying variant of calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor and sclerosing odontogenic carcinoma. However, on the basis of the clinical and radiographic findings, which were suggestive of a benign and slowly progressive process given the corticated, unilocular radiolucency, the considerable root resorption, and the long history of this finding in an otherwise healthy patient, the final diagnosis was amyloid variant of central odontogenic fibroma. Increased recognition of this variant of odontogenic fibroma and its differentiation from other more aggressive lesions could help the clinician to avoid overdiagnosis and overtreatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE We investigated potential predictive factors for visual prognosis in Japanese patients with endogenous endophthalmitis. DESIGN Retrospective observational multicenter cohort study. METHODS We examined the characteristics of 77 Japanese patients with endogenous endophthalmitis and performed statistical analyses of these real-world data. The primary endpoint was the identification of factors associated with visual prognosis. We examined differences between patients in the better vision and legal blindness groups at 12 weeks after treatment initiation. RESULTS The five risk factors for visual impairment at 12 weeks after treatment initiation were presence of pressure injuries, severe clinical symptoms (presence of eye pain and ciliary injection), pathogen identification, and poor best-corrected visual acuity at baseline. Staphylococcus aureus and fungus were associated with a better visual impairment outcome. CONCLUSIONS Endogenous endophthalmitis remains a severe ocular infection; however, it can be managed with rapid treatments, as well as other advances in medical knowledge and technology.

Abstract
With robots already entering simple service tasks in shops, it is important to understand how robots should perform customer service to increase customer satisfaction. We investigate two methods of customer service we theorize are better suited for robots than human shopkeepers: straight communication and data-driven communication. Along with an additional, more traditional customer service style, we compare these methods of customer service performed by a robot, to a human performing the same service styles in 3 online studies with over 1300 people. We find that while traditional customer service styles are best suited for human shopkeepers, robot shopkeepers using straight or data driven customer service styles increase customer satisfaction, make customers feel more informed, and feel more natural than when a human uses them. Our work highlights the need for investigating robot-specific best practices for customer service, but also for social interaction at large, as simply duplicating typical human-human interaction may not produce the best results for a robot.

Abstract
Pedestrian groups are commonly found in crowds but research on their social aspects is comparatively lacking. To fill that void in literature, we study the dynamics of collision avoidance between pedestrian groups (in particular dyads) and individual pedestrians in an ecological environment, focusing in particular on (i) how such avoidance depends on the group's social relation (e.g. colleagues, couples, friends or families) and (ii) its intensity of social interaction (indicated by conversation, gaze exchange, gestures etc). By analyzing relative collision avoidance in the "center of mass" frame, we were able to quantify how much groups and individuals avoid each other with respect to the aforementioned properties of the group. A mathematical representation using a potential energy function is proposed to model avoidance and it is shown to provide a fair approximation to the empirical observations. We also studied the probability that the individuals disrupt the group by "passing through it" (termed as intrusion). We analyzed the dependence of the parameters of the avoidance model and of the probability of intrusion on groups' social relation and intensity of interaction. We confirmed that the stronger social bonding or interaction intensity is, the more prominent collision avoidance turns out. We also confirmed that the probability of intrusion is a decreasing function of interaction intensity and strength of social bonding. Our results suggest that such variability should be accounted for in models and crowd management in general. Namely, public spaces with strongly bonded groups (e.g. a family-oriented amusement park) may require a different approach compared to public spaces with loosely bonded groups (e.g. a business-oriented trade fair).

Abstract
We developed an admonishing service for a shopworker robot and conducted a field trial to investigate the impressions of a shop’s staff and customers. Applying the admonishing service in a real-world robot is difficult due to the high risk of rejection by society. We wanted to achieve an acceptable admonishing service while simultaneously avoiding the impression of a forceful request from a machine. We proposed a harmonized design that provided friendly and admonishing services. First, we interviewed a shop’s staff to learn their strategies for both friendly and admonishing services. From our evaluation of the interview results, we derived three design principles: friendly impressions, zero erroneous admonishments, and polite requests. Based on the design principles, we implemented our harmonized design on a social robot that guides customers to product locations and admonishes those who are not wearing face masks. We conducted a 13-day field trial in a retail shop and interviewed the customers and shopworkers to learn their impressions of our robot. The results of the field trial imply that our harmonized design approach is successful. Both the customers and the shop staff had overall positive impressions of the robot, its admonishing and friendly services, and expressed an intention to use it in the future. Furthermore, we studied the robot’s autonomous service-providing capability in the field and conducted an evaluation with hired participants to deepen our study of the robot’s mask recognition capability.

Abstract
PURPOSE We investigated potential risk factors for visual prognosis in Japanese patients with exogenous endophthalmitis. METHODS In this retrospective observational multicenter cohort study, risk factors for legal blindness at 12 weeks after treatment initiation were evaluated based on patient characteristics, initial BCVA, causative events, pathogens, ocular symptoms, duration from symptom onset to initial treatment, and selected treatments. RESULTS Overall, 23.1% of eyes developed legal blindness. The six risk factors for legal blindness were presence of eye pain, pathogen identification, poor BCVA at the initial visit, longer duration from symptom onset to initial treatment, type of causative event, and type of causative pathogen. Regarding the type of causative pathogen, coagulase-negative staphylococci was associated with a better visual impairment outcome. CONCLUSION Exogenous endophthalmitis remains a severe ocular infection; however, it can be managed with rapid treatment, as well as other advances in medical knowledge and technology.

Abstract
PURPOSE To elucidate detailed epidemiological profile of common types of anterior uveitis (AU) in real-world clinical setting of a tertiary facility in Japan, and to evaluate the characteristic clinical findings at initial presentation. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. METHODS Clinical charts of 275 patients (335 eyes) aged 52.5 ± 19.1 years were reviewed retrospectively. Herpetic AU was diagnosed by multiplex polymerase chain reaction tests using aqueous humor. Time of uveitis onset, gender, laterality, disease course since the initial onset of AU, visual acuity (VA) and intraocular pressure (IOP) at first visit, and definitive diagnosis were collected from clinical charts. RESULTS Acute AU (AAU) was the most common (21.8%) form of AU; followed by herpetic AU (20.7%) comprising Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) (8.0%), Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) (9.1%) and cytomegalo virus (CMV) (3.6%); scleritis (13.5%); diabetic iritis (7.6%), and Posner-Schlossman syndrome (5.5%). Unilateral AU constituted 78.2%, and VA less than 20/30 accounted for 31.2%. Of all the eyes, 16.1% had an IOP higher than 20 mmHg, out of which 37.0% had herpetic AU, followed by scleritis in 25.9%, and Posner-Schlossman syndrome (PSS) in 11.1%. AU patients over 60 years of age were 40.4%, in which 34.2% had herpetic AU, followed by scleritis in 14.4% and AAU in 13.5%. Herpetic AU patients were significantly older and had higher IOP compared with AAU patients. CONCLUSION The most frequent AU was AAU, followed by herpetic AU. Herpetic AU patients were older and had higher intraocular pressure than AAU patients, although VA was equally impaired in both groups.

Abstract
AbstractSeveral studies have shown that infants anticipate human goal-directed actions, but not robot’s ones. However, the studies focusing on the robot goal-directed actions have mainly analyzed the effect of mechanical arms on infant’s attention. To date, the prediction of goal-directed actions in infants has not yet been studied when the agent is a humanoid robot. Given this lack of evidence in infancy research, the present study aims at analyzing infants’ action anticipation of both a human’s and a humanoid robot’s goal-directed action. Data were acquired on thirty 17-month-old infants, watching four video clips, where either a human or a humanoid robot performed a goal-directed action, i.e. reaching a target. Infants looking behavior was measured through the eye-tracking technique. The results showed that infants anticipated the goal-directed action of both the human and the robot and there were no differences in the anticipatory gaze behavior between the two agents. Furthermore, the findings indicated different attentional patterns for the human and the robot, showing a greater attention paid to the robot's face than the human’s face. Overall, the results suggest that 17-month-old infants may infer also humanoid robot’ underlying action goals.

Abstract
Background: We report a case of atypical unilateral optic neuritis after receiving the BNT162b2 mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine. Case Presentation: An 86-year-old man complained of blurred vision and decreased visual acuity in his right eye 8 days after receiving the second BNT162b2 mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine and was referred to our hospital. He also had pain with eye movement. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in the right eye was 20/200 and critical flicker frequency dropped to 16 Hz. Relative afferent pupillary defect was positive and central scotomas were observed on visual field analysis. Fundus examination and SD-OCT revealed optic disc swelling and apparent thickening of the retinal nerve fiber layer around the optic disc in the right eye. Although either an increase in CRP or ESR on laboratory tests, demyelinating lesion on MRI, or positive of anti-MOG antibodies or anti-AQP4 antibodies were not observed, fluorescein angiography presented only hyperfluorescence of the optic disc in the right eye, but there were no findings such as papillary deficiency and choroidal delay that would suggest ischemic optic neuropathy. We diagnosed atypical optic neuritis developed after the SARS-CoV-2 mRNA-based vaccination and initiated oral corticosteroid therapy. One month later, the optic disc swelling disappeared and BCVA improved to 20/100; however, the central scotoma remained and no further improvement in visual function OD was obtained. Conclusions: An atypical acute idiopathic optic neuritis can occur after receiving the second vaccination with BNT162b2, which may present a limited response to corticosteroid therapy.

Abstract
Service and social robot in public scenarios will face various tasks in future applications, such as guiding people or admonishing them to provide assistance or convey social norms. Robots in public spaces might also incorporate roles of authority figures who might admonish people (e.g., security or guard robots). However, recent investigations showed that people ignore the admonishment of robots. Thus, in this work, we are looking at the reasons why people might ignore robots based on the Cognitive Dissonance Theory (CDT). We present the results of two consecutive field observations where a robot admonishes participants (i.e., pedestrians in a shopping mall) and requests them to stop using a smartphone while walking, which is considered an unmoral behavior. In the first field observation, we approached 160 participants over four days and conducted semi-structured interviews with 19 of them. Approximately half of the people ignored the robot, and half of them followed the instructions. Our interview results show that people who ignore the robot indeed use trivialization as a cognitive dissonance reduction strategy to justify ignoring the robot. Based on our analysis of the results, we developed a counter-trivialization strategy that anticipates this dissonance reduction strategy. We admonished 167 participants in our second field observation over four days, and our results show that significantly fewer people ignore the instructions of the robot when the robot uses a counter-trivialization strategy.

Abstract
Data-driven imitation learning enables service robots to learn social interaction behaviors, but these systems cannot adapt after training to changes in the environment, such as changing products in a store. To solve this, a novel learning system that uses neural attention and approximate string matching to copy information from a product information database to its output is proposed. A camera shop interaction dataset was simulated for training/testing. The proposed system was found to outperform a baseline and a previous state of the art in an offline, human-judged evaluation.

Abstract
Background Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a leading cause of blindness in older people. Low-grade inflammation is well-known as one of the pathogenic mechanisms in nAMD. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy is the first-line treatment for nAMD, although macula atrophy (MA) developed under anti-VEGF therapy causes irreversible visual function impairment and is recognized as a serious disorder. Here, we show specific expression patterns of aqueous humor (AH) cytokines in nAMD eyes developing MA under intravitreal injection of aflibercept (IVA) as an anti-VEGF antibody and present predictive cytokines as biomarkers for the incidence of MA in nAMD eyes under IVA treatment. Methods Twenty-eight nAMD patients received three consecutive monthly IVA, followed by a pro re nata regimen for 2 years. AH specimens were collected before first IVA (pre-IVA) and before third IVA (post-IVA). AH cytokine levels, visual acuity (VA), and central retinal thickness (CRT) were measured. Results Two-year incidence of MA was 21.4%. In nAMD eyes developing MA [MA (+) group], pre-IVA levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-1β, VEGF and post-IVA level of MCP-1 were higher than those in nAMD eyes without MA [MA (−) group]. In hierarchical cluster analysis, pre-IVA MCP-1 and VEGF were grouped into the same subcluster, as were post-IVA MCP-1 and CRT. In principal component analysis, principal component loading (PCL) of pre-IVA interferon-γ-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) was 0.61, but PCL of post-IVA IP-10 decreased to −0.09. In receiver operating characteristic analysis and Kaplan–Meier curves, pre-IVA MCP-1, MIP-1β, and VEGF and post-IVA interleukin-6, MCP-1, and MIP-1β were detected as predictive factors for MA incidence. In 2-year clinical course, changes of VA in groups with high levels of pre-IVA MIP-1β (over 39.9 pg/ml) and VEGF (over 150.4 pg/ml) were comparable to those in MA (+) group. Conclusion Substantial loss of IP-10 effects and persistent inflammation contribute to incidence of MA, and screening of AH cytokine levels could be a useful method to predict MA incidence in nAMD eyes under anti-VEGF therapy.

Abstract
We present the architecture of the versatile nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer with software-defined radio technology and its application to the dynamically controlled pulsed magnetic fields. The pulse-field technology is the only solution to access magnetic fields greater than 50 T, but the NMR experiment in the pulsed magnetic field was difficult because of the continuously changing field strength. The dynamically controlled field pulse allows us to perform NMR experiment in a quasi-steady field condition by creating a constant magnetic field for a short time around the peak of the field pulse. We confirmed the reproducibility of the field pulses using the NMR spectroscopy as a high precision magnetometer. With the highly reproducible field strength, we succeeded in measuring the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1, which had never been measured by the pulse-field NMR experiment without dynamic field control. We also implement the NMR spectrum measurement with both the frequency-sweep and field-sweep modes and discuss the appropriate choices of these modes depending on the magnetic properties of the sample to be measured. This development, with further improvement at a long-duration field pulse, will innovate the microscopic measurement in extremely high magnetic fields.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Improving the quality of life (QoL) is one of the main purposes of catheter ablation (CA) of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). QoL improvement in persistent AF patients has not been fully clarified. The EARNEST-PVI trial was a multi-center randomized trial comparing clinical outcomes of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) alone and more intensive ablation in addition to PVI including complex fractionated atrial electrogram (CFAE) and linear ablation (PVI plus).
Purpose
To investigate the QoL change after persistent AF ablation and the differences between the PVI-alone strategy and the PVI plus strategy.
Methods
In the EARNEST-PVI trial, patients with persistent AF who underwent an initial catheter ablation (n=512) were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either PVI alone or PVI plus. Quality of life was assessed at baseline and at 12 months after ablation for AF using the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey. Scores were also converted to a physical health component summary (PCS), a mental health component summary (MCS) and a role/social component summary (RCS).
Results
In the EARNEST-PVI trial, the PVI alone strategy was associated with higher recurrence rate compared with the PVI plus additional ablation strategy. After excluding 68 patients for whom preoperative or postoperative QoL assessment was not available, 222 patients were evaluated respectively. Overall, significant improvements in PCS (46.2±11.4 to 48.7±11.4]), MCS (50.1±8.8 to 54.3±8.6) and RCS (44.6±13.3 to 48.6±11.3) occurred 12 months after ablation (P<0.001, respectively). Although significant QoL improvement occurred in both PVI alone and PLI plus strategies, the changes in PCS was greater in the PVI-plus than that in PVI-alone (3.5±10.3 vs 1.5±10.6, P=0.04).
Conclusions
Ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation improved both physical and mental quality of life. The PVI-plus strategy showed greater improvement in physical QoL.

Abstract
Bacterial endophthalmitis is an intraocular infection that causes rapid vison loss. Pathogens can infect the intraocular space directly (exogenous endophthalmitis (ExE)) or indirectly (endogenous endophthalmitis (EnE)). To identify predictive factors for the visual prognosis of Japanese patients with bacterial endophthalmitis, we retrospectively examined the bacterial endophthalmitis characteristics of 314 Japanese patients and performed statistics using these clinical data. Older patients, with significantly more severe clinical symptoms, were prevalent in the ExE group compared with the EnE group. However, the final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was not significantly different between the ExE and EnE groups. Bacteria isolated from patients were not associated with age, sex, or presence of eye symptoms. Genus Streptococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Enterococcus were more prevalent in ExE patients than EnE patients and contributed to poor final BCVA. The presence of eye pain, bacterial identification, and poor BCVA at baseline were risk factors for final visual impairment.

Abstract
Recent technological developments in robotics has driven the design and production of different humanoid robots. Several studies have highlighted that the presence of human-like physical features could lead both adults and children to anthropomorphize the robots. In the present study we aimed to compare the attribution of mental states to two humanoid robots, NAO and Robovie, which differed in the degree of anthropomorphism. Children aged 5, 7, and 9 years were required to attribute mental states to the NAO robot, which presents more human-like characteristics compared to the Robovie robot, whose physical features look more mechanical. The results on mental state attribution as a function of children's age and robot type showed that 5-year-olds have a greater tendency to anthropomorphize robots than older children, regardless of the type of robot. Moreover, the findings revealed that, although children aged 7 and 9 years attributed a certain degree of human-like mental features to both robots, they attributed greater mental states to NAO than Robovie compared to younger children. These results generally show that children tend to anthropomorphize humanoid robots that also present some mechanical characteristics, such as Robovie. Nevertheless, age-related differences showed that they should be endowed with physical characteristics closely resembling human ones to increase older children's perception of human likeness. These findings have important implications for the design of robots, which also needs to consider the user's target age, as well as for the generalizability issue of research findings that are commonly associated with the use of specific types of robots.

Abstract
Several studies have shown that the human gaze, but not the robot gaze, has significant effects on infant social cognition and facilitate social engagement. The present study investigates early understanding of the referential nature of gaze by comparing-through the eye-tracking technique-infants' response to human and robot's gaze. Data were acquired on thirty-two 17-month-old infants, watching four video clips, where either a human or a humanoid robot performed an action on a target. The agent's gaze was either turned to the target (congruent) or opposite to it (incongruent). The results generally showed that, independent of the agent, the infants attended longer at the face area compared to the hand and target. Additionally, the effect of referential gaze on infants' attention to the target was greater when infants watched the human compared to the robot's action. These results suggest the presence, in infants, of two distinct levels of gaze-following mechanisms: one recognizing the other as a potential interactive partner, the second recognizing partner's agency. In this study, infants recognized the robot as a potential interactive partner, whereas ascribed agency more readily to the human, thus suggesting that the process of generalizability of gazing behaviour to non-humans is not immediate.

Abstract
We studied the use of a rotating multi-layer 3D Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) sensor (specifically the Velodyne HDL-32E) mounted on a social robot for the estimation of features of people around the robot. While LiDARs are often used for robot self-localization and people tracking, we were interested in the possibility of using them to estimate the people's features (states or attributes), which are important in human-robot interaction. In particular, we tested the estimation of the person's body orientation and their gender. As collecting data in the real world and labeling them is laborious and time consuming, we also looked into other ways for obtaining data for training the estimators: using simulations, or using LiDAR data collected in the lab. We trained convolutional neural network-based estimators and tested their performance on actual LiDAR measurements of people in a public space. The results show that with a rotating 3D LiDAR a usable estimate of the body angle can indeed be achieved (mean absolute error 33.5 ° ), and that using simulated data for training the estimators is effective. For estimating gender, the results are satisfactory (accuracy above 80%) when the person is close enough; however, simulated data do not work well and training needs to be done on actual people measurements.

Abstract
Purpose To report a case of meningeal carcinomatosis by metastasis of signet-ring cell carcinoma resulting in severe visual impairment. Case Presentation A 49-year-old man visited our hospital complaining of blurred vision in his left eye since 2 months ago. There was no particular history. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 25/20 in the right eye and 20/20 in the left eye. Papillary swelling in both eyes and disc hemorrhage in the left eye were observed. Gradually, the frequency of dizziness increased, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suggested ventricular enlargement, infiltration around the optic nerve, and meningeal carcinomatosis. Increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure was found, and metastatic adenocarcinoma cells were observed by cerebrospinal fluid cytology. A gastroduodenal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma with signet-ring cells. Visual acuity at the final visit was 4/200 in both eyes. Conclusion If papillary swelling is observed in both eyes, meningeal carcinomatosis should be considered as a differential diagnosis.

Abstract
Detecting and recognizing low-moral actions in public spaces is important. But low-moral actions are rare, so in order to learn to recognize a new low-moral action in general we need to rely on a limited number of samples. In order to study the recognition of actions from a comparatively small dataset, in this work we introduced a new dataset of human actions consisting in large part of low-moral behaviors. In addition, we used this dataset to test the performance of a number of classifiers, which used either depth data or extracted skeletons. The results show that both depth data and skeleton based classifiers were able to achieve similar classification accuracy on this dataset (Top-1: around 55%, Top-5: around 90%). Also, using transfer learning in both cases improved the performance.

Abstract
Long-term azacitidine (AZA) treatment is necessary for its maximal therapeutic effect. This study examined the continuity and efficacy of AZA treatment in real-world use. We conducted a retrospective study in 38 patients who had completed AZA treatment at the Ogaki Municipal Hospital between April 2011 and August 2019. The median number of AZA received cycles was 4. The number of AZA treatment cycles received was 1-3 cycles in 15 (39.5%), 4-6 cycles in 15 (39.5%), and ≥ 7 cycles in 8 (21.1%). The most common reason for discontinued AZA treatment was infection. Overall response rate was 33.3% in patients with discontinued AZA use (< 4 cycles) and 56.5% in patients with continued AZA (≥ 4). Median overall survival (OS) was 124 (15-529) days and 391 (132-2,825) days in the respective groups (p<0.01). The presence of peripheral blood blasts (PBs) was a prognostic factor for continuation of treatment (p =0.03). Discontinued AZA treatment due to infection (p <0.01), and PBs (p =0.03) were unfavourable prognostic factors for OS. Long-term AZA use is beneficial for improvement and survival. Infection control and presence of PBs were important factors for continuing AZA. These data support the idea of long-term continued treatment with AZA for optimal benefit to patients.

Abstract
Many recent studies have shown that behaviors and interaction logic for social robots can be learned automatically from natural examples of human-human interaction by machine learning algorithms, with minimal input from human designers [1--4]. In this work, we exceed the capabilities of the previous approaches by giving the robot
memory
. In earlier work, the robot's actions were decided based only on a narrow temporal window of the current interaction context. However, human behaviors often depend on more temporally distant events in the interaction history. Thus, we raise the question of whether (and how) an automated behavior learning system can learn a memory representation of interaction history within a simulated camera shop scenario. An analysis of the types of
memory-setting
and
memory-dependent
actions that occur in the camera shop scenario is presented. Then, to create more examples of such actions for evaluating a shopkeeper robot behavior learning system, an interaction dataset is simulated. A Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) neural network architecture is applied in the behavior learning system, which learns a memory representation for performing memory-dependent actions. In an offline evaluation, the GRU system significantly outperformed a without-memory baseline system at generating appropriate memory-dependent actions. Finally, an analysis of the GRU architecture's memory representation is presented.

Abstract
In a follow-up to our work on the dependence of walking dyad dynamics on intrinsic properties of the group, we now analyse how these properties affect groups of three people (triads), taking also in consideration the effect of social interaction on the dynamical properties of the group. We show that there is a strong parallel between triads and dyads. Work-oriented groups are faster and walk at a larger distance between them than leisure-oriented ones, while the latter move in a less ordered way. Such differences are present also when colleagues are contrasted with friends and families; nevertheless the similarity between friend and colleague behaviour is greater than the one between family and colleague behaviour. Male triads walk faster than triads including females, males keep a larger distance than females, and same gender groups are more ordered than mixed ones. Groups including tall people walk faster, while those with elderly or children walk at a slower pace. Groups including children move in a less ordered fashion. Results concerning relation and gender are particularly strong, and we investigated whether they hold also when other properties are kept fixed. While this is clearly true for relation, patterns relating gender often resulted to be diminished. For instance, the velocity difference due to gender is reduced if we compare only triads in the colleague relation. The effects on group dynamics due to intrinsic properties are present regardless of social interaction, but socially interacting groups are found to walk in a more ordered way. This has an opposite effect on the space occupied by non-interacting dyads and triads, since loss of structure makes dyads larger, but causes triads to lose their characteristic V formation and walk in a line (i.e., occupying more space in the direction of movement but less space in the orthogonal one).

Background
Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is the most progressed manifestation of peripheral artery disease. Although patients with CLI commonly complicate with severely calcified lesions in infrapopliteal lesions, the prognostic impact of infrapopliteal arterial calcification on wound healing in patients with CLI has not been systematically studied.
Purpose
The aim of current study was to elucidate the prognostic impact of infrapopliteal arterial calcification on wound healing in CLI undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT).
Methods
This study enrolled 639 CLI patients with tissue loss (age 74±10 years, male 62%, diabetes 69%, hemodialysis 57%, Rutherford class 5 77%, class 6 23%) primarily treated with EVT for the infrapopliteal lesions between April 2010 and December 2015. Arterial calcification was assessed by high intensity fluoroscopy and classified into 3 groups as follows; 1) none, 2) unilateral and 3) bilateral calcification. The primary outcome measure was complete wound healing. The predictors of the outcome were evaluated by Cox proportional hazards regression analysis.
Results
During a mean follow-up period of 22±19 months, 1-year wound healing rate were 59.0%. In Kaplan-Meier analysis, 1-year wound healing rate was worse in patients with bilateral calcification than in those with unilateral or none calcification (Figure, 46.2% versus 55.1% versus 67.8%, P<0.001). After multivariate analysis, the predictors of wound healing were non-ambulatory status (hazard ratio (HR) 0.67 [95% confidential interval (CI) 0.53–0.85], P=0.001) and bilateral calcification (HR 0.75 [95% CI 0.47–0.98], versus none or unilateral calcification, P=0.036).

Background
The presence of atrial fibrillation (AF) has been demonstrated to be associated with poor clinical outcomes in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction.
Objective
This study aimed to elucidate the impact of the presence of atrial fibrillation (AF) on the clinical characteristics, therapeutics, and outcomes in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
Methods
PURSUIT-HFpEF is a multicenter prospective observational study including patients hospitalized for acute heart failure with left ventricular ejection fraction of >50%. Patients with acute coronary syndrome or severe valvular disease were excluded.
Results
Of 486 HFpEF patients (age, 80.8±9.0 years old; male, 47%) from 24 cardiovascular centers, 199 (41%) had AF on admission. Patients with AF had lower systolic blood pressures (142±27 vs. 155±35mmHg, p<0.0001) and higher heart rates (91±29 vs. 82±26bpm, p<0.0001) than those without. There was no difference in the usage of inotropes or mechanical ventilation between the 2 groups. A higher quality of life score (EQ5D, 0.72±0.27 vs. 0.63±0.30, p=0.002) was observed at discharge in patients with than without AF. In addition, AF patients tended to demonstrate lower in-hospital mortality rates (0.5% vs. 2.4%, p=0.09) and shorter hospital stays (20.3±12.1 vs. 22.6±18.4 days, p=0.09) than those without. During a mean follow up of 360±111 days, mortality (14.1% vs. 15.3) and heart failure re-hospitalization rates (13.1% vs. 13.9%) were comparable between the 2 groups.
Conclusion
In contrast to heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction, AF on admission was not associated with poor long-term clinical outcomes among HFpEF patients. Several in-hospital outcomes were better in patients with AF than in those without.

Background
Polymer-free biolimus A9-coated stent (DCS) has currently emerged as expected better arterial healing compared to durable polymer drug-eluting stent (DP-DES). However, superiority of DCS on arterial healing over DP-DES has not been well elucidated using intracoronary images.
Methods
This study examined 288 stents in 224 patients with de novo coronary artery lesions. We angioscopically compared 55 DCS from 35 patients with 233 DP-DES from 189 patients 10±2 months after the implantation. We assessed thrombus adhesion, which is a marker of incomplete re-endothelialization. Dominant neointimal coverage (NIC) grade, heterogeneity of NIC and maximum yellow color of plaque underneath the stent were also evaluated. Neointimal coverage was graded as follows: grade 0, stent struts exposed; grade 1, struts bulged into the lumen, although covered; grade 2, struts embedded by the neointima, but translucent; grade 3, struts fully embedded and invisible. NIC was judged as heterogeneous when differences in the NIC grade became apparent. Yellow plaque was graded as follows: grade 0, white; grade 1, light yellow; grade 2, yellow; grade 3, intensive yellow.
Results
Thrombus adhesion was similar between DCS and DP-DES (29% versus 23%, P=0.32). Dominant NIC was greater in DCS than in BP-DES (P<0.001), while NIC was more heterogeneous in DCS than in BP-DES (P=0.001, Figure). Maximum yellow color of stented segment was similar between DCS and DP-DES (P=0.09).
Conclusion
DCS provided similar thrombus adhesion to DP-DES, which suggested similar re-endothelialization 10 months after implantation. However, DCS showed thick and heterogeneous NIC compared to DP-DES. The specific feature of polymer-free and Biolimus A9 would cause the difference, and further investigation is necessary to evaluate the longer-term safety and efficacy.

Background
Improving the quality of life (QoL) is one of the main purposes of catheter ablation (CA) of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). Factors associated with QoL improvement after CA of AF patients have not been clarified. The Kansai Plus Atrial Fibrillation (KPAF) Registry is a multi-center registry enrolling more than 5,000 consecutive patients undergoing the first radiofrequency catheter ablation of AF.
Purpose
The aim of this study was to investigate the QoL change after AF ablation and its associated factors.
Methods
A total of 2030 patients in whom the QoL score was assessed before and one year after the ablation were enrolled from the KPAF registry (age 64±10 years, 75% male, paroxysmal 66%, CHADS2 score 1.1±1.1). The QoL was evaluated using the AF specific QoL evaluation method (AFQLQ), which scores the patient QoL within a range of 0–98 points.
Results
Overall, catheter ablation showed a significant increase in the AFQLQ score (68±19 vs. 86±13 points, P<0.01). AF recurrence was observed in 372 cases (18%) during a 1-year follow-up period. A multivariate analysis showed that AF recurrence, symptomatic AF, long AF duration, high preprocedural heart rate (>110 bpm) and small left atrial diameter were independent predictors of a QoL improvement defined as a >10% score increase.

Conclusions
CA of AF significantly improved the QoL. AF recurrence was one of the strong factors associated with QoL improvement. Symptomatic AF, long AF duration, high preprocedural heart rate and small left atrial diameter were independent predictors of QoL improvement.

Background
Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) using cryoballoon requires contrast medium injection for the confirmation of appropriate venous occlusion. However, some patients have contra-indications against contrast use such as allergy for contrast medium, bronchial asthma or renal dysfunction. We hypothesized that intra-cardiac echocardiographic observation of microbubble leakage after saline injection from the cryoballoon lumen can be used as a maker of incomplete venous occlusion.
Purpose
The aim of this study was to assess the effect of echo-guided approach using saline injection on the acute clinical outcomes as well as the amount of contrast medium.
Methods
Twenty consecutive patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) were studied. They had any reason to avoid using contrast medium. Plain CT scan was performed in all cases to understand the anatomical features. Intra-cardiac echocardiography was used in all cases to guide transseptal puncture and to confirm pulmonary-vein occlusion. Procedural results and clinical outcomes were compared with patients who were performed by the conventional method (n=279).
Results
In all study patients, we could perform PVI without using contrast medium. A total of 2 patients required touch-up ablation using radiofrequency ablation catheter. The procedure time (85±23 vs 86±27 min, P=0.84), the dose of radiation exposure (108±78 vs. 140±133 mmGy/m2, P=0.29), and ratio of requiring touch-up ablation (5% vs 4%, P=0.81) were similar between the study group and the reference group. There was no significant difference in the AF-free survival rate (73% vs. 76%, P=0.79) during a follow-up period of 14±6 months.

Conclusion
Echo-guided approach using saline infusion was effective and less invasive in terms of reduction of contrast use.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stent (BP-DES) has been developed to improve clinical outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients presenting coronary artery disease (CAD). Although BP-DES showed non-inferior safety and efficacy to durable polymer DES (DP-DES) in several randomized clinical trials, hemodialysis (HD) patients, who have been well known as high risk population for adverse events, were excluded in the most of trials. Therefore, there are limited data comparing the clinical outcomes between BP-DES and DP-DES in HD patients with CAD after PCI.
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to investigate clinical outcomes in HD patients after BP-DES implantation compared with those after DP-DES implantation.
Methods
We retrospectively analyzed 234 HD patients (male 74%, mean age 71±10 years) undergoing PCI for 404 lesions with 472 DESs (71 patients for 138 lesions with 170 BP-DESs [91 Ultimaster and 79 Synergy] and 163 HD patients for 266 lesions with 302 DP-DESs [219 Xience, 53 Promus and 30 Resolute]) from 2011 to 2017. Two-year clinical outcomes were compared between BP-DES group and DP-DES group. The primary outcome measure was the incidence of target lesion revascularization (TLR), while the secondary outcome measures were the occurrence of cardiac death (CD), stent thrombosis (ST), myocardial infraction (MI), target vessel revascularization (TVR), non-TVR and major adverse cardiac event (MACE) defined as a composite of CD, MI, and TVR. Outcome measures were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method and the differences between BP-DES group and DP-DES group were assessed by the log-rank test. We also conducted Cox's proportional hazard model to identify predictors for TLR occurrence.
Results
Baseline patient and lesion characteristics were similar between the two groups. The two-year incidence of TLR was not significantly different between BP-DES group and DP-DES group (14.1% vs. 22.2%, p=0.391). The two-year incidences of CD (17.3% vs. 17.5%, p=0.381), ST (0% vs. 3.9%, p=0.133), MI (4.2% vs. 5.8%, p=0.965), TVR (21.3% vs. 27.5%, p=0.586), non-TVR (26.1% vs. 31.3%, p=0.439) and MACE (41.1% vs. 42.6%, p=0.526) were also not different between the two groups. After multivariate analysis, diabetes mellitus (hazard ratio 1.97; 95% confidence interval 1.03–3.78, p=0.004) was independently associated with TLR occurrence in HD patients.

Conclusions
At two-year follow-up after PCI, BP-DES had comparable safety and efficacy profiles to DP-DES in HD patients presenting CAD.

Abstract
Learning from human interaction data is a promising approach for developing robot interaction logic, but behaviors learned only from offline data simply represent the most frequent interaction patterns in the training data, without any adaptation for individual differences. We developed a robot that incorporates both data-driven and interactive learning. Our robot first learns high-level dialog and spatial behavior patterns from offline examples of human--human interaction. Then, during live interactions, it chooses among appropriate actions according to its curiosity about the customer's expected behavior, continually updating its predictive model to learn and adapt to each individual. In a user study, we found that participants thought the curious robot was significantly more humanlike with respect to repetitiveness and diversity of behavior, more interesting, and better overall in comparison to a non-curious robot.

Abstract
Mycoplasma bovis is a microorganism associated with pneumonia, mastitis, arthritis and otitis media of cattle; however, there are no reports of this organism causing bovine endocarditis. Five adult cattle with endocarditis characterized by caseated lesions (diameter 5-12 cm) of the endocardial surface of the left atrium, but without lesions in heart valves or affecting the right side of the heart, were identified in slaughterhouses in Japan. M. bovis was successfully isolated from the lesions and M. bovis antigen was detected immunohistochemically within the lesions. The results suggest that the lesions may have been associated with M. bovis alone. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of bovine endocarditis associated with M. bovis.

Abstract
As robots become more prevalent in public spaces, such as museums, malls, and schools, they are coming into increasing contact with groups of people, rather than just individuals. Groups, compared to individuals, can differ in robot acceptance based on the mere presence of a group, group characteristics such as entitativity (i.e., cohesiveness), and group social norms; however, group dynamics are seldom studied in relation to robots in naturalistic settings. To examine how these factors affect human-robot interaction, we observed 2,714 people in a Japanese mall receiving directions from the humanoid robot Robovie. Video and survey responses evaluating the interaction indicate that groups, especially entitative groups, interacted more often, for longer, and more positively with the robot than individuals. Participants also followed the social norms of the groups they were part of; participants who would not be expected to interact with the robot based on their individual characteristics were more likely to interact with it if other members of their group did. These results illustrate the importance of taking into account the presence of a group, group characteristics, and group norms when designing robots for successful interactions in naturalistic settings.

Abstract
Noninfectious uveitis (NIU), which pathogenesis is often autoimmune nature, occurs as a symptom of systemic syndromes or only in the eye. The standard treatment of NIU is local, topical, and oral administration of corticosteroids (CS) in combination with immunomodulatory therapy (IMT). However, additional therapeutic strategies involving topical and systemic administration of CS or others to treat relapse or exacerbation of ocular inflammation in NIU which present as various ocular manifestations have not been established. The aim of this study was to investigate therapeutic strategies used for various ocular inflammations in relapse or exacerbation of NIU and to evaluate factors associated with the treatment pattern in Japan. The subjects were 198 eyes of 156 NIU patients with relapse or exacerbation of ocular inflammation at 6 university hospitals in Japan. The most frequent disease was sarcoidosis in 23.7% of the cases, followed by Behçet disease (BD) in 21.2%, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease in 13.6%, acute anterior uveitis (AAU) in 5.6%, tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome (TINU) in 4.0%, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)-associated uveitis in 3.0%. Common ocular findings were worsened anterior inflammation (AI) in 67.2% of the cases, vitreous opacity (VO) in 46.5%, macular edema (ME) in 26.8%, retinal vasculitis (RV) in 23.7%, serous retinal detachment (SRD) in 9.1%, and optic perineuritis (OPN) in 4.0%. Reinforcement of betamethasone eye drop (ED) monotherapy for only AI in both unilateral and bilateral AI, sub-tenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide (STTA) for unilateral posterior inflammation including VO and ME, and systemic therapy using CS and/or IMT for bilateral anterior and posterior inflammation were significantly more frequent. Frequencies of exacerbated individual ocular findings in sarcoidosis and BD were similar, and severe ocular inflammation associated with panuveitis required both topical and systemic therapies. These results demonstrate that reinforcement of betamethasone EDs, topical administration of triamcinolone acetonide, and long-term administration of systemic corticosteroids are the major therapeutic strategies, and reinforcement of betamethasone EDs was used for exacerbated AI independently from its use for posterior inflammation. In addition, STTA was preferentially used for VO and ME associated with posterior inflammation.

Abstract
The distribution of age at diagnosis in ocular sarcoidosis has shifted towards the older age groups in developed countries. In systemic sarcoidosis, age-related differences in the clinical presentation, which reflect the therapeutic strategies, was reported. We retrospectively compared 100 consecutive patients from April 2010 to March 2016 who were initially diagnosed with ocular sarcoidosis by International Workshop on Ocular Sarcoidosis criteria. They were classified into elder (>65 years: 50 patients) and younger (≤65 years: 50 patients) groups by the age at diagnosis of uveitis associated with sarcoidosis. All patients received ophthalmic examination to assess the presence of seven intraocular signs and 4 laboratory parameters. Significantly fewer ocular signs (2.8 ± 1.5 and 3.6 ± 1.5; P = 0.0034) and abnormal laboratory results (1.5 ± 1.2 and 2.0 ± 1.2; P = 0.023) were detected in the elder group than in the younger group; statistical differences were found between the groups regarding the frequencies of mutton-fat keratic precipitates (40% and 64%; P = 0.012), vitreous opacities (60% and 78%; P = 0.0059), bilateral inflammation (64% and 80%; P = 0.012), and bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy between the groups (52% and 78%; P < 0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed negative correlations between age and number of detected ocular signs (r = −0.36, P < 0.001) and laboratory results (r = −0.20, P = 0.023). The characteristic ocular signs and abnormal laboratory results had a lower frequency in the elder patients compared with the younger patients. Probable or possible ocular sarcoidosis by the international criteria should increase with increased life expectancy in developed countries.

Abstract
Purpose We report a case of topical corticosteroid treatment-resolved rubeosis iridis with neovascular glaucoma (NVG) caused by noninfectious granulomatous uveitis. Case Report A 61-year-old woman with left ocular pain and blurred vision was referred to our department. Visual acuity and intraocular pressure (IOP) were 20/60 and 37 mm Hg in the left eye, respectively. Inflammatory cells, hyphema, and rubeosis iridis were observed. All laboratory tests, including multiplex polymerase chain reaction for infection using aqueous humor, were negative, and there was neither retinal occlusive vasculitis nor retinal ischemia in the fundus. Our diagnosis was noninfectious granulomatous anterior uveitis-associated NVG. Topical corticosteroid treatment and anti-glaucoma agents resolved inflammation, rubeosis iridis, and NVG. IOP had decreased to 13 mm Hg by 1 month of treatment, and no recurrence was observed. Conclusion Topical corticosteroid could resolve rubeosis iridis and NVG in an eye with noninfectious anterior uveitis. The pathogenesis of NVG in eyes with uveitis is still unknown, but inflammation might have a part in angiogenesis. Anti-inflammatory treatment can be selected as the first choice for anterior uveitis-associated NVG.
