Abstract
Objective: To investigate the short-term outcome of transoral robotic thyroidectomy. Methods: This is a retrospective case series study. The clinicopathologic characteristics and postoperative results of 107 patients who underwent transoral robotic thyroidectomies in the Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery of the 960th Hospital of People's Liberation Army from May 2020 to August 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 12 males and 95 females, with an age of (31.8±9.4) years (range: 11 to 55 years), including 20 benign tumors and 87 thyroid papillary carcinoma. Postoperative follow-up was carried out through returning visit and telephone, mainly to observe the recovery of postoperative complications, cosmetic effects and recurrence results. Results: All transoral robotic thyroidectomy was successfully completed without conversion to open surgery. The tumor size of thyroid papillary carcinoma patients was (5.6±2.7) mm (range: 2 to 15 mm). Furthermore, central cervical lymph node metastasis was found in 45 cases. The number of central cervical lymph nodes retrieved and metastasized (M(IQR)) were 11 (8) (range: 3 to 26) and 1 (3) (range: 0 to 13), respectively. There was no recurrent laryngeal nerve injury and permanent hypoparathyroidism. The transient hypoparathyroidism after surgery was 8 cases. Other complications occurred as follows: postoperative infection (n=1), left submandibular perforation (n=1), skin scald (n=1), and perioral numbness (n=1), oral tear (n=2). The postoperative stay was 6 (2) days (range: 3 to 11 days). No local lymph node recurrence or metastasis occurred after a follow-up of (22.6±10.0) months (range: 1.0 to 37.4 months). All patients were satisfied with the postoperative cosmetic results, the aesthetic effect score was 9.3 (0.2) (range: 8.4 to 9.6) one month after surgery. Conclusion: For highly screened patients with early thyroid cancer, experienced surgeons can perform a transoral robotic thyroidectomy that has excellent cosmetic results.

Abstract
Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are a class of crystalline framework materials assembled by hydrogen bonds. HOFs have the advantages of high crystallinity, mild reaction conditions, good solution processability, and reproducibility. Coupled with the reversibility and flexibility of hydrogen bonds, HOFs can be assembled into a wide diversity of crystalline structures. Since the bonding energy of hydrogen bonds is lower than that of ligand and covalent bonds, the framework of HOFs is prone to collapse after desolventisation and the stability is not high, which limits the development and application of HOFs. In recent years, numerous stable and functional HOFs have been developed by π-π stacking, highly interpenetrated networks, charge-assisted, ligand-bond-assisted, molecular weaving, and covalent cross-linking. Charge-assisted ionic HOFs introduce electrostatic attraction into HOFs to improve stability while enriching structural diversity and functionality. In this paper, we review the development, the principles of rational design and assembly of charge-assisted ionic HOFs, and introduces the different building block construction modes of charge-assisted ionic HOFs. Highlight the applications of charge-assisted ionic HOFs in gas adsorption and separation, proton conduction, biological applications, etc., and prospects for the diverse design of charge-assisted ionic HOFs structures and multifunctional applications.

Abstract
The cochlear nuclei (CNs) receive sensory information from the ear and perform fundamental computations before relaying this information to higher processing centers. These computations are performed by distinct types of neurons interconnected in circuits dedicated to the specialized roles of the auditory system. In the present study, we explored the use of voltage imaging to investigate CN circuitry. We tested two approaches based on fundamentally different voltage sensing technologies. Using a voltage-sensitive dye we recorded glutamate receptor-independent signals arising predominantly from axons. The mean conduction velocity of these fibers of 0.27 m/s was rapid but in range with other unmyelinated axons. We then used a genetically-encoded hybrid voltage sensor (hVOS) to image voltage from a specific population of neurons. Probe expression was controlled using Cre recombinase linked to c-fos activation. This activity-induced gene enabled targeting of neurons that are activated when a mouse hears a pure 15-kHz tone. In CN slices from these animals auditory nerve fiber stimulation elicited a glutamate receptor-dependent depolarization in hVOS probe-labeled neurons. These cells resided within a band corresponding to an isofrequency lamina, and responded with a high degree of synchrony. In contrast to the axonal origin of voltage-sensitive dye signals, hVOS signals represent predominantly postsynaptic responses. The introduction of voltage imaging to the CN creates the opportunity to investigate auditory processing circuitry in populations of neurons targeted on the basis of their genetic identity and their roles in sensory processing.

Abstract
Two ionic hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (iHOF-10, iHOF-11) were prepared using 1,1'-diamino-4,4'-bipyridine diiodide (Dbpy ⋅ 2I) and tetrakis(4-sulfophenyl)ethylene (H4 TPE). With increasing RH and temperature, water molecules induce single crystal to single crystal (SCSC) transformation of iHOF-10, resulting in the formation of iHOF-11. At 90 °C, 98 % RH, the proton conductivity of iHOF-11 (7.03×10-3 S cm-1 ) is 2.09 times higher than iHOF-10 (3.37×10-3 S cm-1 ). At 50 °C, 98 % RH, iHOF-11 (9.49×10-4 S cm-1 ) is 19.06 times higher than iHOF-10 (4.98×10-5 S cm-1 ). The proton conductivity shows water molecules enter the crystal and induce crystal transformation and reorganization of the hydrogen bonding structure, thus increasing the proton conductivity and stability.

Abstract
Artificial intelligence-based technologies are gradually being applied to psych-iatric research and practice. This paper reviews the primary literature concerning artificial intelligence-assisted psychosis risk screening in adolescents. In terms of the practice of psychosis risk screening, the application of two artificial intelligence-assisted screening methods, chatbot and large-scale social media data analysis, is summarized in detail. Regarding the challenges of psychiatric risk screening, ethical issues constitute the first challenge of psychiatric risk screening through artificial intelligence, which must comply with the four biomedical ethical principles of respect for autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence and impartiality such that the development of artificial intelligence can meet the moral and ethical requirements of human beings. By reviewing the pertinent literature concerning current artificial intelligence-assisted adolescent psychosis risk screens, we propose that assuming they meet ethical requirements, there are three directions worth considering in the future development of artificial intelligence-assisted psychosis risk screening in adolescents as follows: nonperceptual real-time artificial intelligence-assisted screening, further reducing the cost of artificial intelligence-assisted screening, and improving the ease of use of artificial intelligence-assisted screening techniques and tools.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the complications of Da Vinci robotic thyroid surgery by bilateral axillo-breast approach. Methods: A retrospective analysis of complications was conducted on 1, 198 cases of Da Vinci robotic thyroid surgery by bilateral axillo-breast approach of the 960 th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army from February 2014 to March 2020. There were 263 men and 935 women, age ranged from 9 to 68 years old, and included 288 benign lesions and 910 malignancies according to preoperative imaging examination, FNAC, and intraoperative frozen pathology. Results: Surgical complications occurred in 187 (15.61%) patients, including 10 cases of temporary larynx nerve injury (0.83%), 1 case of permanent larynx nerve injury (0.08%), and 152 cases of temporary hypoparathyroidism (12.69%), no permanent hypoparathyroidism, 1 case of hypoglossal injury (0.08%), 2 cases of facial nerve jaw branch damage (0.17%), 2 cases of trachea injury (0.17%), no esophagus damage, 5 cases of celiac leakage (0.42%), 3 cases of neck skin adhesion (0.25%), 2 cases of subdermal bleeding (0.17%), 2 cases of skin burns (0.17%), 5 cases of hematoma (0.42%), 1 case of cephalic artery rupture (0.08%), 1 case of jugular vein rupture (0.08%), no tumor cultivation, no arm plex nerve, accessory nerve or phrenic nerve damage. Conclusion: Da Vinci robot thyroid surgery by bilateral axillo-breast approach is safe, with less severe complications.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the potential mechanism of sorafenib resistance associated long non-coding RNA (lncRNA-SRLR) promoted invasion and metastasis in U2OS osteosarcoma cells. Methods: We transfected U2OS cells with negative control lentivirus (LV-NC) or lncRNA-SRLR overexpressed lentivirus (LV-over/SRLR) particles. LV-NC and LV-over/SRLR stable transfected cells (U20S/NC and U20S/SRLR) were selected by primary cell culture medium containing puromycin. The mRNA expressions of lncRNA-SRLR and procollagen-lysine, procollagen-lysine 2-oxoglutarate 5-dioxygenase 2 (PLOD2) were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The effect of lncRNA-SRLR on the invasion of U2OS cells were determined by wound-healing assay and Transwell migration assay. The effect of SRLR on the interleukin-6 (IL-6) secretion of U2OS cells was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) analysis. The subcellular distribution of SRLR in U2OS cells was detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis.The expression of PLOD2 in cells was detected by immunofluorescence (IF). The expressions of PLOD2 and focal adhesion kinase (FAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signal pathway related proteins in U2OS/NC and U2OS/SRLR cells were detected by western blotting. Results: qRT-PCR assay showed that mRNA expressions of lncRNA-SRLR and PLOD2 in U2OS/SRLR cells were (3 964.97±0.05) and (2.77±0.11), respectively, significantly higher than those in U2OS/NC cells (P<0.001 or P<0.01). The results of wound-healing and Transwell migration assay showed that over-expression of SRLR markedly promoted the invasion ability of U2OS cells (P<0.05). The result of ELISA analysis showed that the IL-6 secretions in U2OS/NC or U2OS/SRLR cells were (125.38±11.22) pg/ml or (119.97±13.43) pg/ml, without statistical significance (P>0.05). The subcellular distribution assay revealed that lncRNA-SRLR is predominately located in the nucleus. The result of IF showed that compared with U2OS/NC cells, the expression of PLOD2 was up-regulated in U2OS/SRLR cells. The result of western blotting showed that over-expression of SRLR significantly increased the expression levels of PLOD2, phosphorylation (p)-FAK and p-STAT3 in U2OS cells (P<0.01). Conclusion: lncRNA-SRLR promotes invasion and metastasis of osteosarcoma by activating PLOD2-FAK/STAT3 signal axis.

Abstract
Background Intracranial infections with Corynebacterium striatum (C. striatum) have been described sporadically in the literature over the last two decades. However, C. striatum meningitis combined with multiple abscesses has not been published before. Case presentation In this report, we describe the clinical and imaging findings in a 54-year-old woman with meningitis caused by C. striatum and combined with suspected brain and lung abscesses. This patient who underwent multiple fractures and a recent cut presented with headache and paraphasia. C. striatum was isolated in cerebrospinal fluid and supposedly transmitted from the skin purulent wound through blood. The patient was treated with intravenous vancomycin and had a transient improvement, but died finally. Multiple abscesses, especially in the brain, could be a reason to explain her conditions were deteriorating rapidly. Conclusions Note that C. striatum can cause life-threatening infections. Early identification and diagnosis, early administration of antibiotics to which the bacterium is susceptible, and treatment of complications will be beneficial in patients with C. striatum-related infection.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the effect of traditional and modified Ilizarov transverse tibial bone transport on microvascular regeneration of lower limbs in dogs. Methods: After general anesthesia on 10 experimental dogs, traditional and modified transverse tibial bone transport were performed on both tibias respectively. The control group was treated with the traditional method (the periosteum and bone flap were completely isolated), while the experimental group was treated with the modified method (the fibular periosteum of the open window bone flap was retained). All the external fixators were pulled outwards at a speed of 1 mm every day from 5 days after operation;after one week, the external fixators were moved back every 3 days for one week. The situation of wounds and activity of lower limbs were observed. Simultaneously, the angiogenesis was observed by digital subtraction angiography (DSA) through femoral artery at different stages, and the density of vascular endothelial cells measured by local tissue sections. The data before and after the operation were compared with paired t test. Results: The operation was successfully completed in 10 experimental dogs, and all wounds healed about 1 week after the operation. There was no significant abnormality in lower limb movements in all dogs. Peripheral blood vessel area in middle leg of lower limb in 4 weeks and 8 weeks after operation was (5.9±0.4) mm(2) and (6.9±0.6) mm(2) in control group and it was (6.2±0.6) mm(2) and (8.0±0.6) mm(2) in experimental group, respectively; all were significantly improved than those before the operation ((5.0±0.4) mm(2), (4.9±0.4) mm(2), respectively) (F=446.457, 829.192, both P<0.05). There was no significant differences in vessel area between the two groups at the 4th week after operation (t=1.216, P=0.240), but there was significant difference at the 8th week after operation between the two groups (t=4.423, P=0.000). The percentage of vascular endothelial cells in stained cells under endoscopy was 4.42%±0.28% and 5.63%±0.53% in the control group at the 8th week; and in the experimental group, it was 5.35%±0.26% and 7.18%±0.25%, respectively;all were significantly elevated than those before the operation; and there were significant differences between the two groups (t=7.35, 8.30, both P<0.05). Conclusion: Transverse tibial bone transport and microvascular network regeneration technology can reconstruct the microvasculature below the calf of dogs; the method of window-opening osteotomy is improved to "door" type window-opening, it can retain the lateral periosteum of tibial crest and regenerate the microvasculature network more abundantly.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effects of menopausal factor on fine anatomy of bladder, urethra and vagina in women undergoing vaginal delivery. Methods: Gynecological patients in Nanfang hospital from January 2013 to October 2016 were collected, and then the patients whose MRI images quality meet the require of reconstruction, with the history of vaginal delivery experience, without any cesarean section experience, and the first labor time was ≤30 years old were enrolled. The patients who had pelvic floor dysfunction when done MRI examinations were excluded. Finally, 238 cases were randomly selected out, and 238 models of data were reconstructed and measured by Mimics and UG software. The independent t test was used to do the comparison between menopausal group and those not yet menopause. Results: First, we built 238 3D models totally. Second, the parameters related with bladder and urethra: the angle of bladder and urethra, β angle, urethra pubic angle, α angle, retropubic space, the length between bladder neck and edge of pubic midpoint, and urethral striated muscle thickness of menopausal group were bigger than those of pre-menopausal group. While for the urethra tilt angle, the former group was smaller than that of the latter group. But there was no significant statistical differences between two groups. Third, the parameters related with vagina: the proximal urethral vaginal gap of the post-menopause group was smaller than that of pre-menopausal group, while for the middle and distal urethral vaginal gap, the former group was bigger than that of the latter group. The length and width of vaginal anterior wall of the post-menopausal group were smaller than those of pre-menopausal group. Beside the middle urethral vaginal gap, all the difference between two groups had no statistical meaning. The 2D shape of axial vaginal, H type occupation of the former group was obviously lower than that of the latter group. Conclusions: Menopause has an effect on fine anatomy of pelvic organ. Especially on the shape of vagina, the middle urethral vaginal gap become much wider after menopause, the occupation of shallow concave type become much higher post-menopausal. It means the lateral and backward support function of the urethra and vagina is relatively weakened after menopausal, and the shape of vagina become smaller.

Abstract
We propose a protocol to construct shortcuts of adiabaticity for open quantum systems in unitary evolution. Using the dynamical invariants of open quantum systems, we design a convenient form of the driver Hamiltonian to accelerate the adiabatic decoherence free subspaces scheme (TDFs) and engineer a quantum state from the initial state into the target state. Since the trajectory of TDFSs is determined by the incoherent control process, we would like to call it as the inverse incoherent engineering protocol. We apply the method to a two-qubits system which interacts with a time-dependent vacuum squeezed field to prepare some maximally entangled states of it. The results illustrate that our protocol can be used both in the adiabatic and nonadiabatic regime with perfect fidelity.

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the distribution of neck-shoulder symptoms among middle school students, and to explore its influence factors. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 24 middle schools in Shenyang, Zhengzhou and Shenzhen by purposive sampling method. In each middle school, 3 to 4 classes were selected from each grade all the students in the selected class would be recruited to the survey to investigate the demographic characteristics, neck-shoulder symptoms, physical exercise time, academic stress, screen behavior, sedentary behavior and other information by questionnaire. A total of 10 566 questionnaires were issued and 10 270 valid questionnaires were withdrawn. The prevalence of neck-shoulder symptoms among students were compared by different characteristics. Logistic regression models were applied to examine influencing factors associated with neck-shoulder symptoms. Results: The prevalence of neck-shoulder symptoms among middle school students was 19.2% (1 968/10 270), while it was 22.6% (1 137/5 039) among girls and 15.9% (831/5 231) among boys; the difference showed statistical significance (P<0.001). The prevalence of neck-shoulder symptoms was separately 13.3% (253/1 901) in seventh grade, 16.8% (326/1 942) in eighth grade, 18.5% (299/1 617) in ninth grade, 21.8% (417/1 915) in sophomore, 21.4% (345/1 611) in junior, 25.5% (328/1 284) in senior; the difference showed statistical significance (P<0.001). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that in the last 3 months, students who always playing mobile phone ≥40 min continuously (OR=4.66, 95%CI: 3.95-5.49), watching TV ≥40 min continuously (OR=4.01, 95%CI: 3.39-4.73), using computer ≥40 min continuously (OR=3.61, 95%CI: 3.09-4.23), doing homework ≥60 min continuously (OR=3.25, 95%CI: 2.79-3.79), the average daily sitting time ≥10 h (OR=4.95, 95%CI: 4.25-5.77), and always sitting ≥90 min continuously (OR=5.18, 95%CI: 4.42-6.06) were risk factors of neck-shoulder symptoms. Conclusion: The prevalence of neck-shoulder symptoms was high among middle school students in China, especially girls in senior grades. Long time, high frequency video behaviors and sedentary behaviors were related to the occurrence of neck-shoulder symptoms among middle school students.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect and mechanism of long non-coding RNA-metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1, (LncRNA-MALAT1) on invasion and metastasis of esophageal cancer cell EC-109. Methods: EC-109 cells were transfected with lentiviral vector carrying short hairpin RNA of MALAT1( shRNA-MALAT1) or a nonspecific shRNA control (shRNA-control). The expressions of MALAT1, microRNA-200a, ZEB1 and ZEB2 were detected by qRT-PCR. The effect of shRNA-MALAT1 on invasion of EC-109 cells was determined by transwell assay. The expressions of components of epithelial-msenchymal transition pathway in EC-109 cells were determined by immunofluorescence array and western blotting. The expression relationship between MALAT1 and miR-200a in EC-109 cells was detected by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Results: The result of qRT-PCR showed that the expressions levels of MALAT1, ZEB1 and ZEB2 in shRNA-MALAT1 group were 0.43±0.06, 0.64±0.04 and 0.51±0.04, respectively, significantly lower than 0.97±0.08, 1.06±0.07 and 0.98±0.05 in shRNA-control group and 1 in control group, respectively(all P<0.05). Transwell assay showed that the number of invaded cells in shRNA MALAT1 group was (96.81±10.43) per low-power field, markedly lower than that of (278.44±13.28) per low-power field in shRNA-control group (P<0.01). Immunofluorescence staining and Western blotting showed that MALAT1 downregulation significantly reduced the expressions of proteins related to EMT signal pathway in EC-109 cells.Dual luciferase reporter assay showed that compared to negative control, the activities of luciferase reporter in EC-109 cells co-transfected with pmirGLO-MALAT1-wt and miR-200a were significantly down-regulated. While co-transfected pmirGLO-MALAT1-mut with miR-200a mimics had no effect on the luciferase reporter activities of MALAT1. Conclusion: LncRNA MALAT1 functions as a competing endogenous RNA to regulate the expressions of ZEB1 and ZEB2 by sponging miR-200a and promotes invasion and migration of esophageal cancer cells through inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition.

Abstract
In mammals, acoustic information arises in the cochlea and is transmitted to the ventral cochlear nuclei (VCN). Three groups of VCN neurons extract different features from the firing of auditory nerve fibers and convey that information along separate pathways through the brainstem. Two of these pathways process temporal information: octopus cells detect coincident firing among auditory nerve fibers and transmit signals along monaural pathways, and bushy cells sharpen the encoding of fine structure and feed binaural pathways. The ability of these cells to signal with temporal precision depends on a low-voltage-activated K+ conductance (gKL) and a hyperpolarization-activated conductance (gh). This 'tale of two conductances' traces gap detection and sound lateralization to their cellular and biophysical origins.

Abstract
Low-voltage-activated K+ (gKL) and hyperpolarization-activated mixed cation conductances (gh) mediate currents, IKL and Ih, through channels of the Kv1 (KCNA) and HCN families respectively and give auditory neurons the temporal precision required for signaling information about the onset, fine structure, and time of arrival of sounds. Being partially activated at rest, gKL and gh contribute to the resting potential and shape responses to even small subthreshold synaptic currents. Resting gKL and gh also affect the coupling of somatic depolarization with the generation of action potentials. To learn how these important conductances are regulated we have investigated how genetic perturbations affect their expression in octopus cells of the ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN). We report five new findings: First, the magnitude of gh and gKL varied over more than two-fold between wild type strains of mice. Second, average resting potentials are not different in different strains of mice even in the face of large differences in average gKL and gh. Third, IKL has two components, one being α-dendrotoxin (α-DTX)-sensitive and partially inactivating and the other being α-DTX-insensitive, tetraethylammonium (TEA)-sensitive, and non-inactivating. Fourth, the loss of Kv1.1 results in diminution of the α-DTX-sensitive IKL, and compensatory increased expression of an α-DTX-insensitive, tetraethylammonium (TEA)-sensitive IKL. Fifth, Ih and IKL are balanced at the resting potential in all wild type and mutant octopus cells even when resting potentials vary in individual cells over nearly 10 mV, indicating that the resting potential influences the expression of gh and gKL. The independence of resting potentials on gKL and gh shows that gKL and gh do not, over days or weeks, determine the resting potential but rather that the resting potential plays a role in regulating the magnitude of either or both gKL and gh.

Abstract
Wilms' tumor (WT), or nephroblastoma, is the most common malignant renal cancer that affects the pediatric population. Great progress has been achieved in the treatment of WT, but it cannot be cured at present. Nonetheless, a protein-protein interaction network of WT should provide some new ideas and methods. The purpose of this study was to analyze the protein-protein interaction network of WT. We screened the confirmed disease-related genes using the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man database, created a protein-protein interaction network based on biological function in the Cytoscape software, and detected molecular complexes and relevant pathways that may be included in the network. The results showed that the protein-protein interaction network of WT contains 654 nodes, 1544 edges, and 5 molecular complexes. Among them, complex 1 is predicted to be related to the Jak-STAT signaling pathway, regulation of hematopoiesis by cytokines, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, cytokine and inflammatory responses, and hematopoietic cell lineage pathways. Molecular complex 4 shows a correlation of WT with colorectal cancer and the ErbB signaling pathway. The proposed method can provide the bioinformatic foundation for further elucidation of the mechanisms of WT development.

Abstract
Glioma is the most aggressive type of brain tumor. Great progress has been achieved in glioma treatment, but the protein-protein interaction networks underlining glioma are poorly understood. We identified the protein-protein interaction network for glioma based on gene expression and predicted biological pathways underlying the molecular complexes in the network. Genes involved in glioma were selected from the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) database. A literature search was performed using the Agilent Literature Search plugin, and Cytoscape was used to establish a protein-protein interaction network. The molecular complexes in the network were detected using the Clusterviz plugin, and pathway enrichment of molecular complexes was performed using DAVID online. There were 378 glioma genes in the OMIM database. The protein-protein interaction network in glioma contained 1814 nodes, 6471 edges, and 8 molecular complexes. There were 17 pathways (false discovery rate <1), which were related to cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, chemokine signaling pathway, oocyte meiosis, progesterone-mediated oocyte maturation, transmembrane transport of small molecules, metabolism of amino acids, and notch signaling pathway, among others. Our results provide a bioinformatic foundation for further studies of the mechanisms of glioma.

Abstract
Tonotopy is a fundamental organizational feature of the auditory system. Sounds are encoded by the spatial and temporal patterns of electrical activity in spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) and are transmitted via tonotopically ordered processes from the cochlea through the eighth nerve to the cochlear nuclei. Upon reaching the brainstem, SGN axons bifurcate in a stereotyped pattern, innervating target neurons in the anteroventral cochlear nucleus (aVCN) with one branch and in the posteroventral and dorsal cochlear nuclei (pVCN and DCN) with the other. Each branch is tonotopically organized, thereby distributing acoustic information systematically along multiple parallel pathways for processing in the brainstem. In mice with a mutation in the receptor guanylyl cyclase Npr2, this spatial organization is disrupted. Peripheral SGN processes appear normal, but central SGN processes fail to bifurcate and are disorganized as they exit the auditory nerve. Within the cochlear nuclei, the tonotopic organization of the SGN terminal arbors is blurred and the aVCN is underinnervated with a reduced convergence of SGN inputs onto target neurons. The tonotopy of circuitry within the cochlear nuclei is also degraded, as revealed by changes in the topographic mapping of tuberculoventral cell projections from DCN to VCN. Nonetheless, Npr2 mutant SGN axons are able to transmit acoustic information with normal sensitivity and timing, as revealed by auditory brainstem responses and electrophysiological recordings from VCN neurons. Although most features of signal transmission are normal, intermittent failures were observed in responses to trains of shocks, likely due to a failure in action potential conduction at branch points in Npr2 mutant afferent fibers. Our results show that Npr2 is necessary for the precise spatial organization typical of central auditory circuits, but that signals are still transmitted with normal timing, and that mutant mice can hear even with these deficits.

Abstract
The species boundaries and evolutionary relationships of two closely related genera, Megalobrama and Parabramis, were inferred from the partial mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, NADH dehydrogenase subunit 2 (ND2) gene and their concatenated segment. Phylogenetic reconstructions showed that among the three breams, Megalobrama amblycephala and Megalobrama skolkovii are more closely related to each other than either is to Megalobrama terminalis. The taxonomy of M. pellegrini should be reconsidered. The divergence time estimation based on the assumption of a global molecular clock indicated that speciation and dispersal of the two genera might have occurred at approximately Pliocene to Late Pleistocene, due to major paleo-environmental events associated with monsoon evolution and the formation of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Several epidemiological studies have evaluated the association between the GNB3 C825T polymorphism and hypertension or stroke. The results of these studies were inconsistent; therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to clarify these discrepancies. METHODS We systematically searched the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, and CBM databases, and manually searched reference lists of relevant papers, meeting abstracts, and relevant journals. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for dominant, recessive, and allelic models. A fixed or random effects model was separately adopted depending on study heterogeneity. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed to detect study heterogeneity and examine result stability, respectively. Publication bias was tested using funnel plots, the Egger's regression test, and Begg's test. RESULTS We screened 66 studies regarding hypertension and eight concerning stroke. A combined analysis showed that only the allelic model found a marginal association with hypertension (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.01-1.13) and female gender (OR = 1.11, 95% CI = 0.99-1.24). However, no comparison models found an association with stroke (allelic model: OR = 1.11, 95% CI = 0.94-1.32; dominant model: OR = 1.16, 95% CI = 0.92-1.48; and recessive model: OR = 1.05, 95% CI = 0.97-1.14). Sensitivity analysis suggested that all models did not yield a relationship to hypertension or stroke among Asians. Besides, there was a lack of statistical association with hypertension in Caucasians, which maybe due to a small sample size. When we restricted the included studies to normal populations according to the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, no association was found. CONCLUSIONS There was no evidence indicating that the 825T allele or TT genotype was associated with hypertension or stroke in Asians or hypertension in Caucasians. However, further studies regarding Africans and other ethnicities are needed to identify further correlations.

Abstract
In the ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN), neurons have hyperpolarization-activated conductances, which in some cells are enormous, that contribute to the ability of neurons to convey acoustic information in the timing of their firing by decreasing the input resistance and speeding-up voltage changes. Comparisons of the electrophysiological properties of neurons in the VCN of mutant mice that lack the hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channel α subunit 1 (HCN1(-/-)) (Nolan et al. 2003) with wild-type controls (HCN1(+/+)) and with outbred ICR mice reveal that octopus, T stellate, and bushy cells maintain their electrophysiological distinctions in all strains. Hyperpolarization-activated (I(h)) currents were smaller and slower, input resistances were higher, and membrane time constants were longer in HCN1(-/-) than in HCN1(+/+) in octopus, bushy, and T stellate cells. There were significant differences in the average magnitudes of I(h), input resistances, and time constants between HCN1(+/+) and ICR mice, but the resting potentials did not differ between strains. I(h) is opposed by a low-voltage-activated potassium (I(KL)) current in bushy and octopus cells, whose magnitudes varied widely between neuronal types and between strains. The magnitudes of I(h) and I(KL) were correlated across neuronal types and across mouse strains. Furthermore, these currents balanced one another at the resting potential in individual cells. The magnitude of I(h) and I(KL) is linked in bushy and octopus cells and varies not only between HCN1(-/-) and HCN1(+/+) but also between "wild-type" strains of mice, raising the question to what extent the wild-type strains reflect normal mice.

Abstract
Acoustic information is brought to the brain by auditory nerve fibers, all of which terminate in the cochlear nuclei, and is passed up the auditory pathway through the principal cells of the cochlear nuclei. A population of neurons variously known as T stellate, type I multipolar, planar multipolar, or chopper cells forms one of the major ascending auditory pathways through the brainstem. T Stellate cells are sharply tuned; as a population they encode the spectrum of sounds. In these neurons, phasic excitation from the auditory nerve is made more tonic by feedforward excitation, coactivation of inhibitory with excitatory inputs, relatively large excitatory currents through NMDA receptors, and relatively little synaptic depression. The mechanisms that make firing tonic also obscure the fine structure of sounds that is represented in the excitatory inputs from the auditory nerve and account for the characteristic chopping response patterns with which T stellate cells respond to tones. In contrast with other principal cells of the ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN), T stellate cells lack a low-voltage-activated potassium conductance and are therefore sensitive to small, steady, neuromodulating currents. The presence of cholinergic, serotonergic and noradrenergic receptors allows the excitability of these cells to be modulated by medial olivocochlear efferent neurons and by neuronal circuits associated with arousal. T Stellate cells deliver acoustic information to the ipsilateral dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN), ventral nucleus of the trapezoid body (VNTB), periolivary regions around the lateral superior olivary nucleus (LSO), and to the contralateral ventral lemniscal nuclei (VNLL) and inferior colliculus (IC). It is likely that T stellate cells participate in feedback loops through both medial and lateral olivocochlear efferent neurons and they may be a source of ipsilateral excitation of the LSO.

Abstract
Auditory nerve fibers are the major source of excitation to the three groups of principal cells of the ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN), bushy, T stellate, and octopus cells. Shock-evoked excitatory postsynaptic currents (eEPSCs) in slices from mice showed systematic differences between groups of principal cells, indicating that target cells contribute to determining pre- and postsynaptic properties of synapses from spiral ganglion cells. Bushy cells likely to be small spherical bushy cells receive no more than three, most often two, excitatory inputs; those likely to be globular bushy cells receive at least four, most likely five, inputs. T stellate cells receive 6.5 inputs. Octopus cells receive >60 inputs. The N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) components of eEPSCs were largest in T stellate, smaller in bushy, and smallest in octopus cells, and they were larger in neurons from younger than older mice. The average AMPA conductance of a unitary input is 22 ± 15 nS in both groups of bushy cells, <1.5 nS in octopus cells, and 4.6 ± 3 nS in T stellate cells. Sensitivity to philanthotoxin (PhTX) and rectification in the intracellular presence of spermine indicate that AMPA receptors that mediate eEPSCs in T stellate cells contain more GluR2 subunits than those in bushy and octopus cells. The AMPA components of eEPSCs were briefer in bushy (0.5 ms half-width) than in T stellate and octopus cells (0.8-0.9 ms half-width). Widening of eEPSCs in the presence of cyclothiazide (CTZ) indicates that desensitization shortens eEPSCs. CTZ-insensitive synaptic depression of the AMPA components was greater in bushy and octopus than in T stellate cells.

Abstract
The histology and characteristics of mucins secreted by epithelial mucous cells of the digestive tract in yellow catfish, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco were investigated using light microscope and transmission electron microscope. The digestive tract was divided into a pharynx, oesophagus, U-shaped stomach (with a cardiac, fundic and pyloric part) and intestine, composed of anterior intestine, middle intestine and posterior intestine, which consisted of a mucosa (epithelial layer), lamina propria-submucosa, muscularis and serosa. A large number of isolated longitudinal striated muscular bundles were present in the lamina propria-submucosa of pharynx. Goblet cells were observed throughout the digestive tract, except in the stomach. In the cardiac and fundic stomach, a plenty of gastric glands were observed, whereas they were absent in the pyloric part. Numerous mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum were observed in the columnar epithelial cells of the intestine, especially of the anterior part. The epithelial mucous cells contained neutral or other two mixtures of acid and neutral mucins, the first being the most common. The neutral mucin was the only type of mucins in the stomach, anterior intestine and middle intestine. The results of this study will be helpful for understanding the digestive physiology and diagnosing some gastrointestinal diseases in yellow catfish.

Abstract
Mutations in the gene that encodes espins can cause deafness and vestibular disorders; mice that are homozygous for the autosomal recessive jerker mutation in the espin gene never hear. Extracellular injections of biocytin into the anteroventral cochlear nucleus (AVCN) revealed that although the cochlear nuclei are smaller in je/je mice, the topography in its innervation resembles that in wild-type mice. Auditory nerve fibers innervate narrow, topographically organized, "isofrequency" bands in deaf animals over the ages examined, P18-P70. The projection of tuberculoventral cells was topographic in je/je as in wild-type mice. Terminals of auditory nerve fibers in the multipolar cell area included both large and small endings, whereas in the octopus cell area they were exclusively small boutons in je/je as in wild-type mice, but end bulbs near the nerve root of je/je animals were smaller than in hearing animals. In whole-cell recordings from targets of auditory nerve fibers, octopus and T stellate cells, miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents (mEPSCs) had similar shapes as in +/+, indicating that the properties of AMPA receptors were not affected by the mutation. In je/je animals the frequency of spontaneous mEPSCs was elevated, and synaptic depression in responses to trains of shocks delivered at between 100 and 333 Hz was greater than in wild-type mice, indicating that the probability of neurotransmitter release was increased. The frequency of spontaneous mEPSCs and extent of synaptic depression were greater in octopus than in T stellate cells, in both wild-type and in je/je mice.

Abstract
Bushy cells in the ventral cochlear nucleus convey firing of auditory nerve fibers to neurons in the superior olivary complex that compare the timing and intensity of sounds at the two ears and enable animals to localize sound sources in the horizontal plane. Three voltage-sensitive conductances allow bushy cells to convey acoustic information with submillisecond temporal precision. All bushy cells have a low-voltage-activated, alpha-dendrotoxin (alpha-DTX)-sensitive K(+) conductance (g(KL)) that was activated by depolarization past -70 mV, was half-activated at -39.0 +/- 1.7 (SE) mV, and inactivated approximately 60% over 5 s. Maximal g(KL) varied between 40 and 150 nS (mean: 80.8 +/- 16.7 nS). An alpha-DTX-insensitive, tetraethylammonium (TEA)-sensitive, K(+) conductance (g(KH)) was activated at voltages positive to -40 mV, was half-activated at -18.1 +/- 3.8 mV, and inactivated by 90% over 5 s. Maximal g(KH) varied between 35 and 80 nS (mean: 58.2 +/- 6.5 nS). A ZD7288-sensitive, mixed cation conductance (g(h)) was activated by hyperpolarization greater than -60 mV and half-activated at -83.1 +/- 1.1 mV. Maximum g(h) ranged between 14.5 and 56.6 nS (mean: 30.0 +/- 5.5 nS). 8-Br-cAMP shifted the voltage sensitivity of g(h) positively. Changes in temperature stably altered the steady-state magnitude of I(h). Both g(KL) and g(KH) contribute to repolarizing action potentials and to sharpening synaptic potentials. Those cells with the largest g(h) and the largest g(KL) fired least at the onset of a depolarization, required the fastest depolarizations to fire, and tended to be located nearest the nerve root.

Abstract
AIM To observe the responses of pain-related neurons in habenula to the nociceptive stimuli and classic analgesic morphine for inquiring into its characteristics of pain. METHODS The experiment was proceeded with adult rats under light anesthetized. Through the cannula inserted by operation or the multielectrode injecting the morphine, naloxone, CCK-8 and etc into lateral cerebro-ventricule or habenula, the unit firings from the neurons of habenula were recorded. RESULTS The unit firings were recorded from pain-related neurons distributed in MHb or LHb. The pain-related neurons could be differentiated into pain excitatory or pain inhibitory neurons. After the morphine iontophoresed, the main response of the pain excitatory neurons was inhibited, the pain inhibitory neurons were excited. The naloxone iontophoresed could antagonize the analgesic effect of morphine on neurons of habenula. After the morphine injected (10 mg/kg, i. p) into morphine-tolerated rats, the analgesic efficacy of pain-related neurons in LHb was more stronger than in MHb. It showed that the neurons in LHb were suffered from morphine was higher than MHb. After injection of antagonist of CCK-8 into lateral cerebro-ventricle, morphine injected peritoneally could weaken the tolerance level of morphine. Conversely, after injection of morphine (10 mg/kg, i. p.) 10 min, second time injection of CCK-8 (15 ng/10 microl) into lateral cerebro-ventricle could antagonize the analgesic action of morphine on the neurons in LHb, but in MHb the antagonized action was not obviously. CONCLUSION The excitatory and inhibitory neurons in Hb were sensitive to the nociceptive stimuli and not easy to adapt to it. The sensitivity of the neurons in LHb to morphine was more higher than the neurons in MHb.

Abstract
Temperature is an important physiological variable the influence of which on macroscopic electrophysiological measurements in slices is not well documented. We show that each of three voltage-sensitive conductances of octopus cells of the mammalian ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN) is affected differently by changes in temperature. As expected, the kinetics of the currents were faster at higher than at lower temperature. Where they could be measured, time constants of activation, deactivation, and inactivation had Q10 values between 1.8 and 4.6. The magnitude of the peak conductances was differentially affected by temperature. While the peak magnitude of the high-voltage-activated K+ conductance, gKH, was unaffected by changes in temperature, the peak of the low-voltage-activated K+ conductance, gKL, was reduced by half when the temperature was lowered from 33 to 23°C ( Q10 = 2). Changing the temperature changed the kinetics and the magnitude of the hyperpolarization-activated mixed cation conductance, gh, but the changes in magnitude were transient. The voltage sensitivity of the three conductances was unaffected by temperature. The action of temperature on these conductances is reflected in the resting potentials and in the shapes of action potentials.

Abstract
Corrinoid proteins have been implicated as methyl carriers in methane formation from acetate, yet specific corrinoid proteins methylated by acetate-derived intermediates have not been identified. In the presence of ATP, H2, and bromoethanesulfonic acid, label from 3H- or 2-14C-labeled acetate was incorporated into the protein fraction of cell extracts of Methanosarcina barkeri. Incorporated label was susceptible to photolysis, yielding labeled methane as the anaerobic photolysis product. Size exclusion high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) demonstrated the presence of at least three labeled proteins with native molecular sizes of 480, 200, and 29 kDa, while electrophoresis indicated that four major labeled proteins were present. Dual-label experiments demonstrated that these four proteins were methylated rather than acetylated. Two of the proteins (480 and 29 kDa) contained the majority of radiolabel and were stably methylated. After labeling with [2-14C]acetate, the stable 14CH3-proteins were partially purified, and 14CH3-cofactors were isolated from each protein. UV-visible spectroscopy and HPLC demonstrated these to be methylated corrinoids. When the 480-kDa corrinoid protein was purified to 70% homogeneity, the preparation was found to have subunits of 40 and 30 kDa. The 480-kDa protein but not the 29-kDa protein was methylated during in vitro methanogenesis from acetate and demethylated as methanogenesis ceased, consistent with the involvement of this protein in methane formation.
