Abstract
Objective: To investigate the changes of artemin protein expression in diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and to explore the regulatory effect of human adipose-derived stem cell (ADSC) exosomes on the change of artemin protein expression. Methods: This research was a prospective observational clinical research combined with experimental research. Thirteen DPN patients (9 males and 4 females, aged 32 to 68 years) who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University (hereinafter referred to as our hospital) from May 2022 to October 2023 and met the inclusion criteria were selected as DPN group, and 5 non-diabetes patients (4 males and 1 female, aged 29 to 61 years) who were admitted to our hospital in the same period of time and met the inclusion criteria were selected as control group. The toe nerve or sural nerve tissue in the abandoned tissue after debridement or amputation of patients in the two groups was collected. The pathological changes of nerve tissue were observed after hematoxylin-eosin staining; the protein expressions of S100β and artemin in nerve tissue were observed after immunofluorescence staining, and the artemin protein expression was quantified; the protein and mRNA expressions of artemin were detected by Western blotting and real-time fluorescent quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, respectively (the sample number in DPN group and control group was 13 and 5, respectively). Twelve male C57BL/6 mice aged 3 to 5 days were collected to isolate Schwann cells, and the cells were divided into conventional culture group cultured routinely, high glucose alone group (cultured with high concentration of glucose solution only), and high glucose+exosome group (cultured with high concentration of glucose solution and extracted human ADSC exosomes). After 24 hours of culture, the cell proliferation activity was detected by cell counting kit 8 (n=6). After 48 hours of culture, the protein expression of artemin was detected by Western blotting (n=3). Results: Compared with those in control group, the neural supporting cells decreased and the inflammatory cells increased in the nerve tissue of patients in DPN group, showing typical manifestations of nerve injury. Immunofluorescence staining showed that compared with those in control group, the nuclei was more, and the protein expression of S100β was lower in nerve tissue of patients in DPN group. The protein expression of artemin in nerve tissue of patients in DPN group was 71±31, which was significantly lower than 1 729±62 in control group (t=76.92, P<0.05). Western blotting detection showed that the protein expression of artemin in nerve tissue of patients in DPN group was 0.74±0.08, which was significantly lower than 0.97±0.06 in control group (t=5.49, P<0.05). The artemin mRNA expression in nerve tissue of patients in DPN group was significantly lower than that in control group (t=7.65, P<0.05). After 24 hours of culture, compared with that in conventional culture group, the proliferation activities of Schwann cells in high glucose alone group and high glucose+exosome group were significantly decreased (P<0.05); compared with that in high glucose alone group, the proliferation activity of Schwann cells in high glucose+exosome group was significantly increased (P<0.05). After 48 hours of culture, compared with those in conventional culture group, the protein expressions of artemin of Schwann cells in high glucose alone group and high glucose+exosome group were significantly decreased (P<0.05); compared with that in high glucose alone group, the protein expression of artemin of Schwann cells in high glucose+exosome group was significantly increased (P<0.05). Conclusions: The protein expression of artemin in nerve tissue of DPN patients is lower than that in normal nerve tissue, which may be related to the reduction of proliferation activity of Schwann cells by high glucose. Human ADSC exosomes may improve the proliferation activity of Schwann cells by increasing artemin protein expression, thereby delaying the progression of DPN.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Sumu (Lignum sappan), the dry heartwood of Caesalpinia sappan L., is a traditional Chinese medicine used as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent. AIM OF THE STUDY The study aspired to discover natural phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors with dual anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities from Sumu for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). MATERIALS AND METHODS To accurately and efficiently identify natural PDE4 inhibitors from Sumu, molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) analysis methods were used for structure-based virtual screening of a self-built database of primary polyphenols in Sumu. According to the previous studies of Sumu and the free radical scavenging mechanism of polyphenols, the reported antioxidant components from Sumu and the potential antioxidants with the antioxidant pharmacophore of catechol and π-conjugated moieties were selected from the potential PDE4 inhibitors predicted by docking. Sappanone A, a potential PDE4 inhibitor with antioxidant activity from Sumu, was selected, calculated and synthesized to evaluate its dual anti-inflammatory and antioxidant functions in vitro and in vivo studies. Herein sappanone A was assayed for its inhibitory effects against PDE4 enzyme activity, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) production induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in RAW264.7 macrophages and malondialdehyde (MDA) production induced by Fe2+ in mouse lung homogenate; sappanone A was also assayed for its abilities of radical (DPPH) scavenging, reducing Fe3+ and complexing Fe2+ in vitro. Additionally, LPS-induced acute lung injury (ALI) in mice was used to evaluate its anti-inflammatory activity as a PDE4 inhibitor in vivo, and the levels of TNF-α and total protein in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity in the lung were assayed. RESULTS The present study predicted and validated that sappanone A was a promising PDE4 inhibitor from Sumu with dual anti-inflammation and antioxidant activities from Sumu. In vitro, sappanone A remarkably inhibited PDE4 enzyme activity and reduced TNF-α production induced by LPS in RAW264.7 macrophages and MDA production induced by Fe2+ in mouse lung homogenate. Meanwhile, it showed outstanding abilities of scavenging DPPH radicals, reducing Fe3+ and complexing Fe2+. In vivo, sappanone A (25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg, i.p., twice daily for 7 days) distinctly prevented LPS-induced ALI in mice by reducing the levels of TNF-α and total protein in BALF and MPO activity in the lung. CONCLUSION Sappanone A is a natural PDE4 inhibitor with dual anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities from the traditional Chinese medicine Sumu, which may be a promising therapeutic agent to prevent the vicious cycle of COPD inflammation and oxidative stress.

Abstract
Sepsis remains a leading cause of death in critical patients. Both excessive inflammatory response and long-term immunosuppression can lead to the death of sepsis patients. As a key pro-inflammatory cytokine, interleukin-17 (IL-17) plays an important role in the body's inflammatory response and immune system. The signal transduction of IL-17 is a key link in maintaining the body's health and participating in the onset and development of sepsis. This review mainly summarizes and discusses the regulation of IL-17 signal transduction and pathogenic and protective role of IL-17 in sepsis.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of Silent information regulator 1 (Sirt1) on the expression profile of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in macrophages upon lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment. Methods: Peritoneal macrophages (PM) were isolated from nine wild-type C57BL/6 male mice (wild-type group) and nine myeloid-specific Sirt1 knock-out mice (knock-out group). RNA samples were extracted from macrophages stimulated with 1 μg/ml LPS. Sequencing and the differentially expressed lncRNA were screened after the RNA was quantified. The threshold set for up-and down-regulated genes was a fold change (wild-type group/knock-out group) ≥2 and P≤0.05. Afterwards, gene ontology (GO) and pathway enrichment analysis were conducted and co-expression network map was constructed. Results: Four hundred and forty five lncRNA genes were differentially expressed (185 lncRNA genes were up-regulated and 260 lncRNA genes were down-regulated). Two hundred mRNA genes were differentially expressed (113 mRNA genes were up-regulated and 87 mRNA genes were down-regulated). It was found that the differentially expressed lncRNA genes and the predicted corresponding target genes were mainly distributed in the regions of biological processes of macrophage inflammatory response, macrophage chemotaxis and cell metabolism by GO and pathway enrichment analysis. Conclusion: lncRNA expression profile changes significantly in LPS induced macrophages isolated from Sirt1 knock out mice, which is closely related to the function of macrophages.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The mixed dentition is an important transition period from primary teeth to permanent teeth. However, the caries prevalence of first permanent molar in mixed dentitions was about 30%, which almost represent the caries rate of permanent teeth in this period of time. Therefore, we assessed the oral bacterial profiles in young children (age 6-8) with mixed dentition with or without first molar caries for providing the research basis of caries etiology. METHODS We collected samples of supragingival plaque and saliva from the children living in Guizhou, a rural isolated province in China. Then, we performed DNA extraction and purification followed by 454 pyrosequencing of the V1-V3 hypervariable regions of the 16S rRNA and compared our results with those of previous research. RESULTS (i) We analyzed 48,320 unique sequences that represented 18 phyla, 29 classes, 44 orders, 74 families, 129 genera, 15,003 species-level OUT in plaque and saliva samples; (ii) longitudinally, there was the "healthy core microbiome" between healthy deciduous dentition and early mixed dentition, for example, Neisseria, Porphyromonas, Selenomonas etc.; (iii) horizontally, there also existed the "healthy core microbiome" in early mixed dentition, for example, Neisseria, Streptococcus, Prevotella etc.; (iv) the dominant bacteria detected by Lefse in caries group including Actinomycetaceae, Streptobacillus (p < 0.05) and those in caries-free group including Gammaproteobacteria, Pasteurellaceae, Aggregatibacter, Chloroflexi, (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The oral cavity is a highly heterogeneous ecosystem with the "healthy core microbiome" in children, although microbial composition shifts along with aging. In addition, the abundance and diversity of microbiota vary between caries and caries-free groups verify the ecological plaque hypothesis.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effects of microRNA-34a on regulating silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) and influence of SIRT1 on myocardial damage of rats with severe burns at early stage. Methods: (1) Twenty-four Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into sham injury (SI) group, simple burns (SB) group and SIRT1 agonist (SA) group according to the random number table (the same grouping method below), with 8 rats in each group. Rats in groups SB and SA were inflicted with 30% total body surface area full-thickness scald (hereinafter referred to as burns) on the back, and rats in group SI were sham injuried on the back. Immediately after injury, rats in groups SI and SB were intraperitoneally injected with normal saline of 50 mL/kg, and rats in group SA were intraperitoneally injected with normal saline of 50 mL/kg and 1 mg/mL resveratrol of 50 mg/kg. At 6 h post injury, abdominal aortic blood was collected to make serum and myocardial tissue of rats was collected. (2) Myocardial cells of twelve neonatal SD rats were collected and divided into microRNA-34a mimic control (MMC) group, microRNA-34a mimic (MM) group, microRNA-34a inhibitor control (MIC) group, and microRNA-34a inhibitor (MI) group, which were respectively transfected with gene sequences of mimic control, mimic, inhibitor control, and inhibitor of microRNA-34a. The microRNA-34a expression level and protein expression level of SIRT1 in myocardial cells were respectively detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting. Another batch of myocardial cells were divided into microRNA-34a inhibitor control+ burn serum (MCB) group, microRNA-34a inhibitor+ burn serum (MB) group, and microRNA-34a inhibitor+ burn serum + EX527 (MBE) group. Myocardial cells in group MCB were transfected with gene sequence of inhibitor control, and myocardial cells in the later groups were transfected with gene sequence of inhibitor of microRNA-34a. After transfection of 48 h, myocardial cells in group MBE were cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM) solution for 6 hours, with serum in group SB of volume fraction of 10% and final amount-of-substance concentration of 1 mol/L, and myocardial cells in the other 2 groups were cultured in DMEM solution with serum from rats of group SB of volume fraction of 10%. The protein expression levels of myocardial cells of SIRT1, cleaved-caspase-3, and Bax were detected by Western blotting. (3) Myocardial tissue from (1) was collected to detect expression levels of microRNA-34a and mRNA of SIRT1 in groups SI and SB by real-time fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR. Morphology of myocardial tissue of rats in groups SI, SB, and SA was observed with biological image navigator. The mRNA expression levels of interleukin 1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) of rats in groups SI, SB, and SA were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR. The expression levels of cleaved-caspase-3, and Bax of myocardial tissue of rats in groups SI, SB, and SA were detected by Western blotting. Data were processed with one-way analysis of variance and least-significant difference test. Results: (1) After transfection of 48 h, the expression level of microRNA-34a of myocardial cells in group MM was 4.67±0.92, significantly higher than 1.03±0.04 in group MMC (P<0.01); the protein expression level of SIRT1 of myocardial cells in group MM was 0.35±0.06, significantly lower than 1.12±0.11 in group MMC (P<0.01). After transfection of 48 h, the expression level of microRNA-34a of myocardial cells in group MI was 0.26±0.07, significantly lower than 1.33±0.07 in group MIC (P<0.01); the protein expression level of SIRT1 of myocardial cells in group MIC was 1.12±0.16, significantly lower than 1.74±0.34 in group MI (P<0.01). At 6 h after culture, compared with those in group MCB, the SIRT1 protein expression level of myocardial cells in group MB was significantly increased (P<0.05), while cleaved-caspase-3 and Bax protein expression levels of myocardial cells in group MB were significantly decreased (P<0.05). Compared with those in group MB, the SIRT1 protein expression level of myocardial cells in group MBE was with no significantly statistical difference (P>0.05), and cleaved-caspase-3 and Bax protein expression levels were significantly increased (P<0.05). (2) At 6 h post injury, compared with that in group SI, the microRNA-34a expression level of myocardial tissue in group SB was significantly increased (P<0.01), and the mRNA expression level of SIRT1 of myocardial tissue in group SB was significantly decreased (P<0.01). At 6 h post injury, myocardial cells in group SI arranged neatly with normal nucleus and no inflammatory cells infiltration; myocardial cells in group SB arranged disorderly, with no abnormal nucleus, and obvious inflammatory cells infiltration; myocardial cells in group SA arranged neatly, with normal nucleus and little inflammatory cells infiltration. At 6 h post injury, compared with those in group SB, the mRNA expression levels of IL-1β and TNF-α, and the protein expression levels of cleaved-caspase-3 and Bax of myocardial tissue in groups SI and SA were significantly decreased (P<0.01). Conclusions: The microRNA-34a expression level of myocardial tissue of rats with severe burns at early stage increases, which decreases the expression level of SIRT1, and increases the expression levels of IL-1β, TNF-α, cleaved-caspase-3 and Bax, leading to obvious myocardial damage. Activation of SIRT1 can alleviate myocardial damage of rats with severe burns at early stage through decreasing expression levels of IL-1β, TNF-α, cleaved-caspase-3, and Bax.

Abstract
Autophagy is a lysosomal degradation pathway that functions to promote cell survival and maintain homeostasis by removing damaged organelles, unfolded proteins, and intracellular pathogens to lysosomes for degradation. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a clinicopathological syndrome whose hepatic histological features are similar to alcoholic liver disease (ALD), yet without excessive alcohol intake. Recent studies have revealed the close relationship of autophagy with development, progression, and outcome of NAFLD. Autophagy is capable of modulating lipid metabolism, improving insulin resistance, reducing oxidative stress, alleviating hepatocyte damage, etc., through multiple pathways. To induce hepatocyte autophagy pharmaceutically may be a novel therapeutic strategy for NAFLD. This review focuses on the mechanisms as well as the therapeutic targets of autophagy in NAFLD.

Abstract
The heat shock transcription factor 1 gene (HSF1) plays a key role in the heat stress response. We previously found a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the 3'-untranslated region (g.4693G>T) of HSF1 that was related to thermo tolerance in Chinese Holstein cattle through association analysis. However, it is not known whether other SNPs also affect thermo tolerance.In this study a novel SNP, g.1451G>T, was identified by DNA sequencing and genotyped using creating restriction site-polymerase chain reaction methodology. The g.1451G>T polymorphic site met Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P > 0.05). Association analysis demonstrated that this SNP had no effect on thermo tolerance traits in Holstein cattle. Findings of the study compared to the analysis of g.4693 G>T further indicated that g.4693 G>T may play an important role in thermo tolerance, although the mechanism is not clear. RNA hybrid and Targetscan prediction showed that the minimum free energy hybridization of bta-miR-484 with HSF1 3'-UTR was -31.9 kcal/mol and g.4693 G>T was in the seed sequence of bovine HSF1 that binds to bta-miR-484. Analysis by Luciferase assay indicated that HSF1 expression was directly targeted by bta-miR-484 in HEK 293T cells, and the Rluc/luc ratio of wildtype (GG) was lower than that of the mutant (TT) (P < 0.05). These results suggest that g.4693 G>T affects binding of HSF1 to bta-miR-484.

Abstract
We explored the molecular mechanism of the regulation of vacuolar-type-H+-ATPase B1 (VHAB1) in elvers in the response to salinity. The full-length cDNA of VHAB1 in Anguilla marmorata (designated as AmVHAB1), which was 1741 base pairs (bp) in length, was found to encompass a 1512-bp open reading frame encoding a polypeptide with 503 amino acids (55.9 kDa), an 83-bp 5'-untranslated region, and a 146-bp 3'-untranslated region. The mRNA and protein expression levels of AmVHAB1 in the gill were evaluated at different time points (0, 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h, and 15 days) during the exposure to various salinity levels (0, 10, and 25‰). The results indicated that the expression levels of AmVHAB1 mRNA in the gill significantly increased and reached the highest level at 1 h exposure in the brackish water (BW, 10‰) group and at 6 h exposure in the seawater (SW, 25‰) group. The salinity level affected the relative expression level of AmVHAB1 mRNA in the gill, which was increased by approximately 44-fold in the SW group when compared with that in fresh water. Immunoblotting analysis showed that VHA expression was significantly higher in the BW and SW groups, with the highest expression level was detected at 96 h exposure. We found that the AmVHAB1 gene in elvers from A. marmorata plays an important role in the adaptation to seawater.

Abstract
Eleven weedy or wild species or subspecies of the genus Secale L. were compared with a set of cultivated rye accessions, based on inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers to analyze their phylogenetic relationships. A total of 846 bands were amplified from reactions using 12 screening primers, including 79 loci with a mean of 10.1 alleles per locus. The number of amplified bands for each primer ranged from 12 to 134, with a mean of 70.5 amplified bands per primer. The presence and distribution of amplified bands in different accessions demonstrate that a rapid evolutionary trend of microsatellite repeats occurred during the speciation process from the perennial wild form to annual cultivated rye. In addition, variation, amplification, and deletion of microsatellites in genomes revealed phylogenetic relationships in the genus Secale. Analysis of the presence, number, and distribution of amplified bands in genomes, as well as the comparison with genetic similarity (GS) indices based on ISSR, indicate that Secale strictum subsp. africanum (Stapf) Hammer, Secale strictum anatolicum (Boiss.) Hammer, Secale sylvestre Host, and Secale strictum subsp. strictum (C. Presl) Hammer emerged in succession from a common ancestor of Secale following geographic separation and genetic differentiation. The annual weedy rye evolved from S. strictum subsp. strictum, which was domesticated as present-day cultivated rye. Data from ISSR analyses separated all investigated accessions of the genus Secale into three distinct groups. These results support the division of the genus Secale into three species: the annual wild species S. sylvestre; the perennial wild species S. strictum, including several differential subspecies forms such as strictum, africanum, and anatolicum; and S. cereale, including cultivated and weedy rye as subspecies forms.

Abstract
A gene designated as aopB was identified which was involved in tumorigenesis of Agrobacterium tumefaciens. aopB is located on the circular chromosome as a single copy. This gene shares high homology with ropB, a Rhizobium leguminosarum gene encoding an outer membrane protein. A transposon mutant CGI1 containing a gfp-tagged transposon insertion at aopB caused attenuated tumors on plants when inoculated at a low cell concentration (5x10(7) cells/ml). The mutation did not affect the bacterial growth on different media. A broad host range plasmid containing the wild type aopB could restore the tumor formation ability of CGI1 to the wild type level. When both aopB-gfp and aopB-phoA fusions were used to study the aopB gene expression, we found that the aopB gene was inducible by acidic pH but not by plant phenolic compound acetosyringone. aopB encodes a putative protein of 218 amino acids with a predicted molecular weight of 22.8 kDa. TnphoA transposon mutagenesis of aopB, subcellular fractionation and whole cell ELISA experiments indicated that AopB is an outer membrane protein exposed on the bacterial cell surface. It appeared that AopB was exclusively present in the outer membrane and not in other fractions. The vir gene induction assays showed that the aopB gene was not required for the expression of the Ti plasmid encoded vir genes that are essential for tumorigenesis. The C-terminal half of AopB is slightly homologous to some of the bacterial porin proteins and some of plant dehydrins. The role of AopB in Agrobacterium-plant interaction is discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To elucidate the molecular mechanism on anti-arrhythmic function of Dingxin Recipe (DXR). METHODS Cardial myocytes isolated by trypsin method were cultured and labelled with various fluorescence stains. DXR contained serum induced changes of cytolic calcium concentration [Ca2+]i, cell membrane potential (MP) and mitochondria membrane potential (MMP) were determined with laser confocal microscopy. RESULTS Hypoxia caused increase of [Ca2+]i and MMP, and decrease of MP, while DXR contained serum lowered the [Ca2+]i in normal or hypoxian myocytes, improved hypoxia induced MP reduction and maintain MMP at baseline level under hypoxia circumstances. CONCLUSION Through inhibiting the hypoxia caused [Ca2+]i and MMP elevation and MP lowering, DXR displays its action in protecting myocardial cells to prevent and treat arrhythmia.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate the correlation between lymphogenous metastasis and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity and the expression of Fas ligand of tumor cells in lymph nodes.
METHODS: Fifty-six inbred 615-mice were equally divided into 2 groups and inoculated with Hca-F and Hca-P cells. Their lymph node metastatic rates were examined. Growth fraction of lymphocytes in host lymph nodes was detected by flow cytometry. The Hca-F and Hca-P cells were cultured with extract of lymph node, liver or spleen. The quantity of MMPs in these supernatants was examined by zymographic analysis. The expression of Fas ligand, PCNA, Bcl-2 protein of Hca-F and Hca-P cells in the mice were examined by immunohistochemistry. The apoptosis signals of macrophages in lymph nodes were observed with in situ DNA fragmentation.
RESULTS: On the 28th day post-inoculation, the lymph node metastatic rate of Hca-F was 80% (16/20), whereas that of Hca-P was 25% (5/20). The growth fraction of lymphocytes was as follows: in the Hca-F cells, the proliferating peak of lymphocytes appeared on the 14th day post-inoculation and then decreased rapidly, while in Hca-P cells, the peak appeared on the 7th day post inoculation and then kept at a high level. With the extract of lymph node, the quantity of the MMP-9 activity increased (P < 0.01) and active MMP-9 and MMP-2 were produced by both Hca-F and Hca-P tumor cells, which did not produce MMPs without the extract of lymph node or with the extracts of the liver and spleen. The expression of Fas Ligand of Hca-F cells was stronger than that of Hca-P cells (P < 0.01). The expressions of PCNA and Bcl-2 protein of Hca-F cells in the tumors of inoculated area were the same as that of Hca-P cells. In situ DNA fragmentation showed that the positive signals of macrophages were around Hca-F cells.
CONCLUSION: Secretion of MMPs which was associated with metastatic ability of Hca-F and Hca-P tumor cells depends on the environment of lymph nodes. The increased expression of Fas ligand protein of Hca-F tumor cells with high lymphogenous metastatic potential in lymph nodes may help tumor cells escape from being killed by host lymphocytes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of transposition of the gastracnemius muscle in the limb-salvage operation of the proximal tibial tumor. METHODS From 1995, transposition of the gastrocnemius muscle was applied to cover the devitalized bone, bone cement or autologous bone graft in 15 cases with tumors of the proximal tibia (transposition of medial heads of gastrocnemius muscle in 12 cases, and lateral heads of gastrocnemius muscle in 3 cases respectively). Among them, there were 7 osteosarcomas, 5 giant cell tumors, 1 malignant fibrous histocytoma, 1 chondrosarcoma and 1 osteoblastoma. The operations included segmental devitalization with 95% alcohol in 7 cases, knee reconstruction of the unilateral tibial plateau with iliac graft in 5 cases, segmental devitalization with microwave in 2 cases, local resection and bone graft in 1 cases. RESULTS Apart from 2 cases whose wounds needed suturing again due to the liquefaction of the subcutaneous fat around the incision, no wound complications were occured in other 13 patients. No significant loss in the function of the leg and ankle was observed after transposition of the gastrocnemius muscle. There was no local recurrence, but 3 patients died due to lung metastases. CONCLUSION Transposition of the gastrocnemius muscle after resection of promixal tibial tumors can improve the local blood supply, cover the deep structures and prevent from the failure of limb-salvage operation due to wound complications.

Abstract
Diameter of nailfold capillaries and their blood flow speed in 90 patients with pain syndrome were measured accurately by using YJD clinical microcirculatory image analyser, and the data obtained were compared with that of 31 normal subjects. The results showed (1) Shortening of capillary loop and slow down of blood flow were revealed in patients no matter where the location of pain was; (2) The disturbance of microcirculation was more prominent in case of chronic pain patient, manifested chiefly as slow down of blood flow speed (0.19 +/- 0.09 mm/s in afferent branch) and increase of loop diameter (15.86 +/- 6.50 microns), as compared with those in normal subjects (0.35 +/- 0.13 mm/s and 14.01 +/- 3.31 microns respectively), the difference were significant, P < 0.01; (3) Typing according to Syndrome Differentiation of TCM, the afferent loop diameter of the Blood Stasis type were 9.23 +/- 1.65 microns, it was significantly different from that of other types; and the blood flow speed of this group was markedly slowing down (0.18 +/- 0.08 mm/s in afferent branch), the change was of significant difference in comparing with normal group, P < 0.01. Authors considered that the mechanism of changes in microcirculation was related to increase of blood viscosity and spasm or diastole of capillaries induced by neurohumoral regulation, and many humoral factors, as histamine, may take part in this procedure.

Abstract
The cardiac diastolic and systolic function, arterial compatibility and total arterial resistance of 116 patients was investigated. Using RM-6000 polygraph recorder, five kind of tongue pictures were described, and their impedance cardiogram, carotid arteriogram and their differential spectrum, cardiophonogram and electrocardiogram were examined. The results showed that the PEP index in presphygmic period of purplish tongue group was larger than that of other groups, while the PEP/LVET, HI, SV, SVI and CI indexs of purplish tongue group was less than that of other groups. The cardiac function index of the pale and dark-red tongue group were lower than that of pale-red tongue group. The cardiac function index of red tongue was similar to pale-red tongue. According to cardiac function index, the cardiac function displayed that: pale red tongue > red tongue > dark-red tongue > pale tongue > purplish tongue.

Abstract
Observation on 30 patients with fissured tongue (FT) and 42 normal subjects, through the measurement of flow and the elements of saliva, pH value, the Na and K content, SIgA, it was shown that: in FT patients, the flow of saliva and pH decreased, while the Na/K ratio and the content of SIgA increased (each P < 0.01, compared with the normal). It was also showed that the formation of FT has to a certain extent something to do with the electrolyte disturbance in aqueous solution, malnutrition, as well as immunity and endocrinic function of patients.
