Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether social jet lag (SJL) and weekend catch-up sleep (CUS), proxies of circadian misalignment, were associated with BMI and chronic conditions. METHODS Participants (n = 2,050,18-65y) were part of a virtual cross-sectional and population-based research. We examined CUS and SJL as continuous and categorical (< 1 h,1-2 h, > 2 h). Linear regression analyses were performed to assess the differences in BMI (outcome) associated with CUS and SJL. Restricted cubic splines were performed to explore the shape of the relationship between weekday-to-weekend variability in sleep duration, midpoint, wake time, and bedtime. Logistic regression models were used to estimate ORs(95%CIs) for chronic conditions and overweight related to CUS and SJL. Analyses were adjusted for sleep duration, biological and behavior-related variables. RESULTS We found a positive association of SJL and CUS with BMI. The effects remained even after adjustment for weekly sleep duration and demonstrated a proportional increase with the magnitude of sleep variability. Among participants with SJL > 2 h, BMI increased by 2.29 kg/m2 (95%CI:0.84;3.74,p:0.002). They also had 129% higher odds of chronic conditions (95%CI:1.16;4.52, p:0.01) and 119% higher odds of overweight (95%CI: 1.20;3.98,p:0.01). Individuals with CUS > 2 h presented 78% higher odds of overweight (95%CI:1.27;2.50,p:0.001) and an increase of 1.61 kg/m2 in BMI (95%CI: 0.81; 2.40,p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Our findings, which demonstrate that even a slight weekend sleep extension and variability of just 1 h is associated with higher values of BMI, suggest incorporating measures for sleep consistency and regularity into clinical protocols and public health guidelines to prevent and treat obesity and related diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The present study aimed to investigate the type and timing of ultra-processed foods (UPF) consumption and its association with dietary intake (DI) and physical activity (PA) in women with obesity living in poverty. METHODS A cross-sectional study was employed. Obesity was defined by at least two criteria (body mass index, waist circumference or % fat mass). Poverty was defined as the three lowest classes of the Brazilian Economic Classification Criterion. PA was measured with triaxial accelerometers and DI was assessed with three 24-h dietary recalls. Foods were categorised according to the NOVA classification, with UPF classified into five subgroups, as well as the timing of consumption into six meals. RESULTS In total, 56 adult women were included. Overall energy intake was 1653.21 (503.22) kcal/day. UPF intake was 21.62% (11.94%) kcal/day, being higher at breakfast (4.91% kcal/day), afternoon snack (5.39% kcal/day) and dinner (5.01% kcal/day). Only UPF subgroup 4 (sandwich biscuits, sweets, or treats) showed a positive association with energy intake (β = 54.40 [27.6, 81.10] kcal/day) and a negative association with protein intake (β = -0.31% [-0.48%, -0.14%] kcal/day). UPF consumption in morning (β = -0.41% [-0.79%, -0.02%] kcal/day) and afternoon (β = -0.18% [-0.33%, -0.04%] kcal/day) snacks was associated with lower protein intake. Furthermore, lunchtime UPF consumption was positively associated with walking time (β = 0.16% [0.02%; 0.30%]) and steps/hour (β = 8.72 [1.50; 15.94] steps/h). CONCLUSIONS Women with obesity living in poverty consume more UPF during breakfast, afternoon snack and dinner. Physical activity is positively associated with UPF consumption at lunch. UPF, such as sandwich biscuits, sweets or treats, contribute to increasing energy intake and reducing protein intake.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of treatment for inflammatory bowel diseases in modulating oxidative stress biomarkers and cytokine levels. A systematic review of clinical trials was conducted, searching electronic databases including PubMed, Science Direct, and Scopus. After excluding articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria, 19 studies were included in the systematic review and 8 in the meta-analysis (6 for antioxidant capacity, 6 for superoxide dismutase (SOD), and 5 for lipid peroxidation analyzed through malondialdehyde (MDA) levels). SOD was significantly modulated (RR = 0.3764, 95% CI [0.0262 to 0.7267], p = 0.035) but not antioxidant capacity (RR = 0.3424, 95% CI [0.0334 to 0.7183], p = 0.0742) or MDA (RR = -0.8534, 95% CI [-1.9333 to 0.2265], p = 0.1214). Nonetheless, studies investigating oxidative stress biomarkers and cytokines in the context of alternative therapies for IBD treatment are still scarce. This review highlights the potential of antioxidant supplementation in IBD management and underscores the need for further investigations into its effects on oxidative stress biomarkers and cytokines to improve therapeutic approaches for IBD patients.

Abstract
Leishmaniasis is a public health issue. It is among the top five parasitic illnesses worldwide and is one of the most neglected diseases. The current treatment disease includes limitations of toxicity, variable efficacy, high costs and inconvenient doses and treatment schedules. LASSBio-1736 was described as antileishmanial drug-candidate to cutaneous leishmaniasis, displaying plasma stability and with no preliminary signals of hepatic or renal toxicity. In this paper, we described the in vitro pharmacokinetic study of LASSBio-1491 (a less lipophilic isostere of LASSBio-1736) and it is in vitro and in vivo leishmanicidal activities. Our results demonstrated that LASSBio-1491 has high permeability, satisfactory aqueous solubility, long plasma and microsomal half-lives and low in vitro systemic clearance, suggesting a pharmacokinetic profile suitable for its use in a single daily dose. The antileishmanial effect of LASSBio-1491 was confirmed in vitro and in vivo. It exhibited no cytotoxic effect to mammalian cells and displayed good in –vivo effect against BALB/c mice infected with Leishmania major LV39 substrain, being 3 times more efficient than glucantime.

Abstract
To identify difficulties in accessing health services by the elderly in the city of São Paulo/Brazil and the contributory factors that reflect inequalities. This is a cross-sectional study that used data from the Health, Well-being and Aging Study (SABE). The population is composed of elderly ≥ 60 years old, of both sexes, living in the urban area of São Paulo. For this analysis, we used data from the 2015 cohort of the SABE study, containing a sample of 1,221 individuals. The proportions of access difficulty and, through logistic regression, the associated factors were verified, based on Andersen’s Behavioral Model, which considers factors of predisposition, enabling and need as individual determinants of access to health care. It was observed that 37.0% of the elderly reported difficulty accessing health services when they needed it. This difficulty was greatest among females (42.3%), aged 60 to 69 years (40.9%), black race/color (58.8%), illiterate (44.5%), single/separated/divorced (44.3%), with income slower than one salary minimum (46.8%), without health insurance (51.9%), with poor/very poor self-assessment of health (54.7%), with multimorbidity (40.1%), frail (47.2%) and among those who used polypharmacy (40.8%). After multivariate analysis, in the final model, there was a positive association between difficulty of access and predisposing factors (female gender, age group 60 to 69 years, black race/color, illiterate), enabling factors (possession of health insurance) and need factors (regular and poor/very poor self-assessment of health and pre-fragility and frailty condition). The presence of difficulty in access associated with predisposing, enabling and need factors reflect the existence of inequalities caused by barriers that point to weaknesses in the organization of services. The identification of these barriers that hinder access highlights important points that can have an impact on the equity and resolution of care.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of chitosan-derived aminated carbon dots with dual fluorescence bands and their influence on the morphology, absorption and emission spectral profiles as well as on the band gap energy in relation to thermal treatment after synthesis. To unravel these changes, we performed spectroscopic measurements in the solid state on two stages at temperatures ranging from 303 to 453 K. For the first heating stage, the emission spectrum showed a 20 nm red shift and a new absorption band at 350 nm, possibly related to new bonds and/or nitrogenous molecular fractions. For the second heating stage in the same temperature range, no displacements in the emission spectrum were observed and both the energy gap and bandwidths for the two emission bands are practically constant, indicating a change nitrogen moiety exposed on the surface. Furthermore, through atomic force microscopy it was noted that the morphology and size of the CDs were not significantly affected by the increase in temperature. It is noteworthy that the values of the Huang-Rhys factor, respectively, 2.584 × 10-10 and 2.315 × 10-9 for band I and II emission after the second heating indicate a mechanism of weak electron-phonon interactions. This work may open a novel perspective for the development of new surface modulation strategies for carbon dots subjected to thermal treatment in the solid state.

Abstract
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the world, and one of its manifestations occurs with the appearance of pulmonary nodules. The classification of pulmonary nodules may be a complex task to specialists due to temporal, subjective, and qualitative aspects. Therefore, it is important to integrate computational tools to the early pulmonary nodule classification process, since they have the potential to characterize objectively and quantitatively the lesions. In this context, the goal of this work is to perform the classification of pulmonary nodules based on image features of texture and margin sharpness. Computed tomography scans were obtained from a publicly available image database. Texture attributes were extracted from a co-occurrence matrix obtained from the nodule volume. Margin sharpness attributes were extracted from perpendicular lines drawn over the borders on all nodule slices. Feature selection was performed by different algorithms. Classification was performed by several machine learning classifiers and assessed by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. Highest classification performance was obtained by a random forest algorithm with all 48 extracted features. However, a decision tree using only two selected features obtained statistically equivalent performance on sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract
Background and aim Understanding the maturation of upper limb (UL) movement characteristics in typically developing (TD) children is key to explore UL deficits in those with neurodevelopmental disorders. Three-dimensional motion analysis (3DMA) offers a reliable tool to comprehensively evaluate UL motion. However, studies thus far mainly focused on specific pre-defined parameters extracted from kinematic waveforms. Here, we investigated age-related differences in UL movement characteristics over the entire movement cycle in TD children. Participants and methods We assessed the non-dominant UL of 60 TD children (mean age 10y3m±3y1m) using 3DMA during eight tasks: reaching (forwards (RF), upwards (RU), sideways (RS)), reach-to-grasp (sphere (RGS), vertical cylinder (RGV)) and activities-of-daily-living mimicking tasks (hand-to-head (HTH), hand-to-mouth (HTM), hand-to-shoulder (HTS)). We investigated differences between four age-groups (5-7y, 8-10y, 11-12y, 13-15y) in: (1) spatiotemporal parameters (movement duration, peak velocity, time-to-peak velocity and trajectory straightness), and (2) 12 UL joint angles, using Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM). Results We found that the 5-7y children moved with lower peak velocity and less straight trajectories compared to the 11-12y group (peak velocity: RS, HTS, p<0.01; trajectory: RU, RS, RGV, HTS, p<0.01) and the 13-15y group (peak velocity: RF, RS, RGS, RGV, HTH, HTS, p<0.01; trajectory, all tasks, p<0.01). The 5-7y children showed increased scapular protraction compared to older children (8-10y and 11-12y, HTS), as well as increased scapular medial rotation compared to the 13-15y group (RGS). During RU, the 5-7y children moved more towards the frontal plane (shoulder), unlike the 13-15y group. Lastly, the 5-7y group used less elbow flexion than older children (11-12y and 13-15y) during HTH and HTS. Discussion and conclusion In conclusion, our results point toward a maturation in UL movement characteristics up to age 11-12y, when UL motion seemed to reach a plateau. The reference values provided in this study will help to further optimize the interpretation of UL deficits in children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Abstract
The involvement of miRNA in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) pathogenesis has increasingly become a focus of epigenetic studies. Despite advances, the number of known miRNAs with a consistent expression response during epileptogenesis is still small. Addressing this situation requires additional miRNA profiling studies coupled to detailed individual expression analyses. Here, we perform a miRNA microarray analysis of the hippocampus of Wistar rats 24 hours after intra-hippocampal pilocarpine-induced Status Epilepticus (H-PILO SE). We identified 73 miRNAs that undergo significant changes, of which 36 were up-regulated and 37 were down-regulated. To validate, we selected 5 of these (10a-5p, 128a-3p, 196b-5p, 352 and 324-3p) for RT-qPCR analysis. Our results confirmed that miR-352 and 196b-5p levels were significantly higher and miR-128a-3p levels were significantly lower in the hippocampus of H-PILO SE rats. We also evaluated whether the 3 miRNAs show a dysregulated hippocampal expression at three time periods (0h, 24h and chronic phase) after systemic pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus (S-PILO SE). We demonstrate that miR-128a-3p transcripts are significantly reduced at all time points compared to the naïve group. Moreover, miR-196b-5p was significantly higher only at 24h post-SE, while miR-352 transcripts were significantly up-regulated after 24h and in chronic phase (epileptic) rats. Finally, when we compared hippocampi of epileptic and non-epileptic humans, we observed that transcript levels of miRNAs show similar trends to the animal models. In summary, we successfully identified two novel dysregulated miRNAs (196b-5p and 352) and confirmed miR-128a-3p downregulation in SE-induced epileptogenesis. Further functional assays are required to understand the role of these miRNAs in MTLE pathogenesis.
