Implementation facilitation of the "11 for Health in Denmark": A case study in a Danish 5 th grade class. Scand J Med Sci Sports 2021; 32:152-164. [PMID: 34597433 PMCID: PMC9293193 DOI: 10.1111/sms.14069] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/29/2021] [Revised: 09/18/2021] [Accepted: 09/27/2021] [Indexed: 12/11/2022]
Abstract
The “11 for Health in Denmark” concept aims to enhance 10–12‐year‐old schoolchildren's physical activity levels and health knowledge through an 11‐week football intervention and has been shown to induce positive effects in numerous areas. However, little is known about the implementation facilitation of this concept in schools. This case study therefore aims to gain a deeper understanding of the implementation facilitation of “11 for Health” in a Danish 5th grade class comprising 22 schoolchildren (12 boys and 10 girls, Mage 11.86±) and one teacher. Data were derived from multiple school situations using photographs and videos, observations, and informal interviews. Five themes were identified: (1) environmental and organizational factors impacting on the implementation; (2) familiarization with the concept for the teacher and schoolchildren; (3) previous clique formation; (4) the central role of the teacher; and (5) the importance of how praise partners are allocated. We found high adherence to the “11 for Health” concept, in which the teacher played a key role by applying an autonomy‐supportive style of teaching and using the praise partner concept in a suitable manner. A clique of football‐playing boys was a resource, as their praising of classmates encouraged adherence. However, familiarization with the “11 for Health” concept was a challenge and the clique's competitive nature occasionally built barriers to other schoolchildren without football experience, potentially leading to a more controlled form of motivation. Based on the results, we encourage teachers to apply autonomy‐supportive teaching when applying the “11 for Health” concept.

Survey of pesticide residues in table grapes: Determination of processing factors, intake and risk assessment. ACTA ACUST UNITED AC 2007; 24:886-95. Abstract
The differences in residue pattern between Italy and South Africa, the main exporters of table grapes to the Danish market, were investigated. The results showed no major differences with respect to the number of samples with residues, with residues being found in 54-78% of the samples. Exceedances of the European Union maximum residue limit (MRL) were found in five samples from Italy. A number of samples were rinsed to study the possible reduction of residues. For copper, iprodione, procymidone and dithiocarbamates a significant effect of rinsing was found (20-49% reduction of residues). However, no significant effect was found for organophosphorus pesticides and pyrethroids, whereas the number of samples with residues of benzilates, phenylamids and triazoles was insufficient to demonstrate any significant effects. An intake calculation showed that the average intake from Italian grapes was 3.9 microg day(-1) for pesticides and 21 microg day(-1) for copper. Correspondingly, the intakes from South African grapes were 2.6 and 5.7 microg day(-1), respectively. When the total exposure of pesticides from grapes were related to acceptable daily intake, expressed as the sum of Hazard Quotients, the exposure were approximately 0.5% for Italian samples and 1% for South African samples.

Abstract
Two fly ashes from biomass combustion have been analysed regarding cadmium speciation and mobility. A fly ash from straw combustion contained 10 mg Cd/kg dry matter, and around 50% of the cadmium was leachable in water. The possible main speciation of cadmium in this fly ash was CdCl2. When adding this fly ash to agricultural soil a threat for groundwater contamination and plant uptake is existing. A fly ash from wood chip combustion had 28.6 mg Cd/kg dry matter. In this fly ash, the cadmium was bound more heavily, with only small amounts of cadmium leached in mild extractants. A possible speciation of cadmium in this fly ash was as oxide or as CdSiO3. Long-term effects and accumulation of cadmium could be a problem when adding this fly ash to agricultural or forest soils.

Removal of Cu, Pb and Zn in an applied electric field in calcareous and non-calcareous soils. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2001; 85:291-299. Abstract
The pH dependency of the removal of Cu, Zn and Pb by electrodialytic soil remediation from different industrially polluted soils was examined. From 18 experiments performed with five different soils, it was found that the order of mobilization due to a pH decrease was Zn>Cu>Pb. It was found, too, that each of the elements was removed at higher soil pH in calcareous soils (about 12% carbonates) than in soils with a carbonate content of less than 3.7%. In soils rich in carbonates, precipitation of heavy metal carbonates is an important retention mechanism and the heavy metal carbonates are dissolved at higher pH values than the pH at which heavy metals are desorbed in non-calcareous soils. Thus, the relation between the soil pH and the mobility of the heavy metal in the electric field is not only dependent on the heavy metal in focus, but also on the fraction of the heavy metal precipitated as carbonates.

Comparison of high-performance liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis methods for quantitative determination of glycyrrhizinic acid in pharmaceutical preparations. Eur J Pharm Sci 1999; 9:41-6. Abstract
A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) and a capillary electrophoretic (CE) method have been developed for the determination of glycyrrhizinic acid in pharmaceuticals. The two methods have been validated and have been compared with respect to their suitability for the said purpose as well as in relation to requirements from the legal authorities. The HPLC method provide a repeatability of the quantitative analysis of glycyrrhizinic acid below 1% relative standard deviation (RSD) which makes the method suitable when the legal authorities requires the content to be within +/-5% of the declaration. The repeatability of the CE method is in the order of 3-5% RSD when using internal standardization. However, using internal standardization as well as peak normalisation (peak area/migration time) indicate that the RSD may be reduced to about 1%. The CE method is suitable as a stability indication method as the degradation product glycyrrhetinic acid can be determined simultaneously.

PCDDs, PCDFs, and PCBs in human milk from different parts of Norway and Lithuania. JOURNAL OF TOXICOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH 1995; 46:133-48. [PMID: 7563213 DOI: 10.1080/15287399509532024] [Citation(s) in RCA: 37] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 01/26/2023]
Abstract
Concentrations of 2,3,7,8-substituted polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) as well as 16 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been determined in pooled samples of breast milk from 10-12 mothers living in three different geographical areas in both Norway and Lithuania. The results indicate no apparent dependency of the PCDD/PCDF levels, expressed as toxic equivalents (TEQs), and total PCB levels on the geographical residence of the donors within a country. This confirms the findings from a corresponding Norwegian study in 1985/1986 where individual samples from the same areas were analyzed. Teh total TEQs, including dioxin-like PCBs, ranged from 31 to 42 pg TEQs/g fat in Norway and from 45 to 49 pg TEQs/g fat in Lithuania. The mean concentration of PCDDs/PCDFs in teh Norwegian samples (10.4 pg TEQs/g fat) was slightly lower than in the Lithuanian samples (14.8 pg TEQs/g fat). Dioxin-like PCBs were found to contribute two to three times more to the total TEQs than the PCDDs and PCDFs. Major contributors among the dioxin-like PCBs were PCBs 126, 156, 114, 118, and 170. Comparison of the present data with those obtained in the Norwegian study in 1985/1986 shows that for PCDDs/PCDFs the mean TEQ levels have decreased by about 37% in the 7-yr time span, while the levels of total PCBs, as determined by packed-column gas chromatography, have remained unchanged or only slightly decreased. Future studies are necessary to confirm this potential temporal trend.
