Abstract
Studies have highlighted an upregulation of PD-1 expression in CD4+ T cells, which accelerates lung fibrosis by activating the IL-17/STAT3 pathway, leading to IL-17A and TGF-β1 secretion. However, the relation with traumatic tracheal stenosis (TS) remains unexplored. Our analysis found significant increases in PD-1+CD4+ T cells, IL-17A, and TGF-β1 in the TS patients (n = 10). The cellular model used CD4+ T cells co-cultured with bronchial fibroblasts while the animal model used a nylon brush to scrape the damaged tracheal mucosa. Interventions with PD-1 and STAT3 inhibitors both in vivo (n = 5) and in vitro (n = 6) showed decreased expression of TGF-β1 and IL-17A in CD4+ T cells, decreased collagen I synthesis in vivo, and reduced tractal fibrosis in vitro. Furthermore, PD-1's modulation of the STAT3 was evident. This research unveils PD-1+CD4+ T cells' role in TS, thus suggesting a novel immunotherapeutic strategy to counteract tracheal fibrosis.

Correlation between nocturnal intermittent hypoxemia and mild cognitive impairment in the older adult and the role of BDNF Val66Met polymorphism: a hospital-based cross-sectional study. Sleep Breath 2023; 27:1945-1952. [PMID: 36567420 DOI: 10.1007/s11325-022-02772-2] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/27/2022] [Revised: 11/14/2022] [Accepted: 12/16/2022] [Indexed: 12/27/2022]
Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the prevalence of nocturnal intermittent hypoxemia (NIH) in a tertiary hospital geriatric department and the relationship between NIH and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in older adults, and to examine the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) Val66Met polymorphism. METHODS Older adults aged ≥ 60 were enrolled. NIH and cognitive assessments were conducted. BDNF concentrations and BDNF Val66Met polymorphism were detected for a preliminary exploration of the possible mechanism of the process. RESULTS Of 325 older adults enrolled, 157 (48%) had NIH and were further divided into mild, moderate, and severe NIH groups according to their oxygen desaturation of ≥ 4% per hour of sleep (ODI4). MCI detection rate in the four groups gradually increased, and the differences were statistically significant (chi-square = 4.457, P = 0.035). ODI4 was negatively correlated with MoCA score in all participants (r = - 0.115, P = 0.039) and patients with NIH (r = - 0.199, P = 0.012). After adjusting for sex, age, and cardiovascular risk factors, NIH and MCI remained independently associated (OR = 3.13, 95% CI 1.03-9.53, P = 0.045). BDNF levels were positively correlated with MoCA score (r = 0.169, P = 0.028) and negatively correlated with nocturnal average oxygen saturation in patients with NIH (r = - 0.288, P = 0.008). Older adults with different BDNF Val66Met genotypes did not show significant differences in MCI rate and BDNF levels (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION The older adults with NIH have a higher MCI detection rate. BDNF levels may be a potential biomarker for cognitive dysfunction in patients with NIH.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical and pathological characteristics and prognosis of 35 cases of solitary fibrous tumor of ocular adnexal (SFT). Methods: This was a retrospective case series study. The clinical data of 35 cases of ocular adnexal SFT was collected in Tianjin Eye Hospital from January 2000 to December 2020. The clinical manifestations, imaging examination results, pathological characteristics, treatment of patients were analyzed, and patients were followed up. All cases were classified according to the 2013 classification of World Health Organization of tumors of soft tissue and bone. Results: There were 21 males (60.0%) and 14 females (40.0%). The age range was 17 to 83 years, and the median age was 44 (35, 54)years. All patients were unilateral, with 23 (65.7%) in the right eye and 12 (34.3%) in the left eye. The course of disease ranged from 2 months to 11 years, with an a median duration of 12(6,36)months. Clinical manifestations included exophthalmos, limited eye movements, diplopia, and tearing. All patients underwent surgical treatment of complete resection of the tumor. Ocular adnexal SFT mostly occurred in the upper orbit (19 cases, 73.1%). On imaging examination, the tumor showed well-circumscribed space occupying lesion that heterogeneously enhanced with contrast, and abundant blood flow signals in the tumors. MRI showed isointensity or low signal on T1WI, and significantly enhanced on T2WI, presenting intermediate-to-high heterogeneous signals. The tumor diameter was 2.1 (1.5, 2.6) cm. There were 23 cases (65.7%) of classic subtype, 2 cases (5.7%) of giant cell subtype, 8 cases (22.9%) of myxoid subtype, and 2 cases (5.7%) of malignancy. Immunohistochemical staining showed that Vimentin, CD34 and STAT6 were positively expressed in all patients. Twenty-one cases (60.0%) showed positive expression of BCL-2, and Ki-67 positive index ranged from 1.0% to 10.0%. Tumors in this group were all low-risk according to the Demicco risk stratification. Follow-up was available for 25 patients with a duration of 2 years to 14 years and 7 months, and the median follow-up time was 88 (61, 124) months. Two patients relapsed, and no distant metastasis or death was observed. Conclusions: Ocular adnexal SFT mainly presents as a painless, slow-growing mass. And most of them are typical SFT. The imaging manifestations are varied Ocular adnexal SFT generally follows a benign course, with a good prognosis after complete excision. Recurrence could occur many years after surgery which requiring careful and long-term follow-up.

Abstract
In recent years, as a powerful supplement to the randomized controlled trial (RCT), real world study (RWS) has received more and more attention. However, in the field of chronic wounds, most of the patients have complex condition, and the strict inclusion and exclusion criteria of RCT were lack of practical application values. The RWS provides data closer to the real medical environment in clinical medical practice, drug and medical device supervision, and health technology evaluation. However, RWS has some problems that need to be resolved, such as inconsistent diagnostic criteria and unclear research endpoints. In addition, RWS in chronic wound research in China seems to have not really started yet, and institutions at all levels need to work together to promote the development of RWS.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of lead exposure on the neurobehavior and gut microbiota community structure in mice. Methods: In August 2019, 64 C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: control group (0 ppm) , low lead exposure group (20 mg/l) , medium lead exposure group (100 mg/l) and high lead exposure group (500 mg/l) . During the experiment, they were free to eat and drink. The drinking water of the lead exposure group was mixed with lead acetate, and sodium acetate was added in the control group. After 10 weeks of exposure, the Morris water maze was used to test the learning and memory ability of each group of mice, and then they were sacrificed for sampling. ICP-MS was used to detect lead content in whole blood and brain tissue. ELISA was used to determine the level of IL-1β in mouse serum. 16S rRNA sequencing was used to detect the structural diversity of the intestinal flora in feces, and then the correlation between the flora and behavior indicators was analyzed. Results: In the Morris water maze experiment, compared with the control group, there was no significant difference in the body weight and swimming speed of the mice in the lead exposure groups. The escape latency of the mice in the 100 mg/l and 500 mg/l dose groups was prolonged, and the number of platform crossings decreased (P<0.05) ; meanwhile, the staying time of the mice in the 500 mg/l Pb-treated group in the target quadrant was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05) . Compared with the control group, the blood lead content of the mice in each lead exposure group was significantly increased, and the brain lead content of mice in the 500 mg/l dose group was significantly elevated (P<0.05) . The serum IL-1β levels of mice in each lead exposure group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05) . At the phylum level, the relative abundance of the Proteobacteria phylum in all of Pb-treated groups was significantly increased (P<0.05) ; at the genus level, Allobaculum, Desulfovibrio, Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group, Turicibacter and Ureaplasma were significantly increased (P<0.05) . Among them. The relative abundance of Desuffaoibrio, Turici bacter, and Ureaplasma was negatively correlated with the residence time of mice in the quadrant of the platform (r=-0.32, -0.29, -0.44, P<0.05) . Conclusion: Lead exposure induced learning and memory impairments in mice, which may be related to the disturbance of the gut microbiota.

Abstract
Objective: To summarize the clinical and pathological characteristics of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of ocular adnexal (OA-DLBCL). Methods: A retrospective case series study. Twenty-three cases of OA-DLBCL were collected in Tianjin Eye Hospital from January 2005 to December 2018. The clinical manifestations and imaging examination results were analyzed. The pathological characteristics and immune subtypes were analyzed with hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemistry. Eighteen patients completed the follow-up. Overall survival (OS) time was from the date of diagnosis to the date of death or the final follow-up (April 30, 2020). Clinical stages were analyzed by the Ann Arbor classification; Kaplan-Meier plots were used to visualize survival outcomes. The different risk groups were compared using Log-rank test. Results: There were 13 males and 10 females. The median age was 65 years (range, 43 to 82 years). Twenty-two patients had unilateral lymphoma (14 left eyes, 8 right eyes), and one patient had bilateral lymphoma. The OA-DLBCL was in the orbit in 14 patients, in the lacrimal gland in two patients, in both the lacrimal gland and the orbit in three patients, in both the lacrimal sac and the orbit in one patient, in the conjunctiva in one patient, in both the conjunctiva and the orbit in one patient, and in the skin of eyelids in one patient. Imaging examinations showed the tumors were of irregular soft tissue density. MRI showed the tumors were close to the extraocular muscles or ectocinerea. Centroblastic morphology was present in 21 specimens, and 2 specimens had immunoblastic morphology. Six patients were of germinal center B cell-like (GCB) type, and 17 were of non-GCB type. There were 2 patients with double expression of cellular-myelocytomatosis viral oncogene and B-cell lymphoma 2. The follow-up time ranged from 25 to 156 months, and the median follow-up time was 48 months. Five of them had primary OA-DLBCL, and 13 patients had secondary OA-DLBCL. Five patients were at the Ann Arbor clinical stage ⅠE, one was at stage ⅢE, and 12 were at stage ⅣE. During the follow-up, 8 patients survived, and 10 died. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates were 88.9%, 71.4% and 41.7%, respectively. Log-rank analysis indicated that the Ann Arbor clinical stage and age were related to the OS of OA-DLBCL (χ²=7.448, 8.804; both P<0.01). The gender, tumor size, molecular typing, Ki-67 index, and bone invasion were not related to the OS of OA-DLBCL (all P>0.05). Conclusions: OA-DLBCL mainly occurrs in the elderly population, unilaterally, and in the orbit. Most molecular types are non-GCB subtypes. The Ann Arbor clinical stage and age are associated with prognosis. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2021, 57: 366-371).

This study aims to analyse the optimal reference gene for real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) under different conditions and investigate the transcription levels of the sigma factor genes in the stress response. METHODS AND RESULTS We selected six housekeeping genes and analysed them via RT-qPCR using two energy resources, under four stress conditions. Three statistical approaches BestKeeper, geNorm, and NormFinder were utilized to determine transcription stability of these reference genes. The gapdH gene was the best internal control gene using elemental sulphur as an energy resource and under heat stress, map was the best internal control gene under pH and osmotic stress, era was the best internal control gene for the K2 S4 O6 energy resource, and rpoC was the best internal control gene under Cu2+ stress. Furthermore, the expressional levels of 11 sigma factors were analysed by RT-qPCR in the stress response. CONCLUSIONS Stable internal control genes for RT-qPCR analysis of A. caldus were determined, and the expression patterns of sigma factor genes of A. caldus were investigated. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The identification of the optimal reference gene and analysis of transcription levels of sigma factors in A. caldus can provide clues for reference gene selection and the study of sigma factor function.

Abstract
Objective: To introduce and evaluate a technique to precisely localize the transverse-sigmoid sinus junction (TSSJ) in retrosigmoid craniotomy. Methods: This was a single-center prospective randomized controlled study. Sixty-three patients, 29 male and 34 female, who would undergo retrosigmoid craniotomy admitted to Department of Neurosurgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical Universityfrom March to October 2019 were enrolled in the study and were divided into trial group and control group according to the computer-generated random numbers. Preoperative venous computed tomographic angiography (CTA) combined with 3-dimensional computed tomography computed tomography (3D CT) was randomly given to the patients(n=32). Asterion was used for identification of the TSSJ in the controls (n=31). The main outcome measures as postoperative complications and relevant intraoperative indicators were compared. Results: Incision length, craniotomy time, bone window sizein trial group were shorter or smaller than those of the controls, as(6.8±0.5) cm vs (8.0±1.5) cm, (37±8) min vs (45±15) min, (8.7±1.2) cm(2) vs (10.2±2.4) cm(2) respectively, with statistical significance (all P<0.05). No statistical significance was found in bleeding amount, incidence of sinus injury and cerebrospinal fluid leakage. While incidence of neck pain was lower in case group (15.63% vs 38.71%; P=0.04) and the remission time of incisional pain in case group was shorter [(6±1) d vs (9±2) d; P=0.01]. Conclusion: While the technique is used, the center of the keyhole should be located at transitional place of the lateral part of the occipitomastoid suture, the retromastoid ridge and the superior nuchal line. Compared with the traditional craniotomy method marked by asterion, it has great advantages in reducing incidence of postoperative complications, craniotomy time, and the remission time of incisional pain.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to elucidate the neuronal protection effect of sodium butyrate (NaB) on neuronal apoptosis in rats with cerebral infarction (CI), and the involvement of the phosphatidilinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt) and extracellular-signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) pathways. MI model in rats was performed by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Three hours after reperfusion, gastric administration of 5 or 10 mg/kg NaB was performed. Neurological deficit score, infarct size and brain edema were evaluated in rats after 24 h of reperfusion. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was conducted to determine contents of oxidative stress factors. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, cell viability and apoptosis in extracted neurons were determined. Moreover, expression levels of Bcl-2, Bax, Akt and ERK1/2 were examined. NaB treatment markedly reduced infarct size and brain edema content in CI rats, and NaB treatment improved viability, decreased LDH activity and reversed contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, NaB treatment dose-dependently reduced apoptotic rate and Bax level, as well as enhanced Bcl-2 level. Protein levels of Akt and ERK1/2 were markedly upregulated in NaB-treated neurons. NaB treatment alleviates neuronal apoptosis via the PI3K/Akt and ERK1/2 pathways in CI rats, thus protecting the deterioration of CI.

Abstract
Properties of atomic van der Waals heterostructures are profoundly influenced by interlayer coupling, which critically depends on stacking of the proximal layers. Rotational misalignment or lattice mismatch of the layers gives rise to a periodic modulation of the stacking, the moiré superlattice. Provided the superlattice period extends over many unit cells, the coupled layers undergo lattice relaxation, leading to the concentration of strain at line defects - solitons - separating large area commensurate domains. We visualize such long-range periodic superstructures in thin crystals of hexagonal boron nitride using atomic-force microscopy and nano-infrared spectroscopy. The solitons form sub-surface hexagonal networks with periods of a few hundred nanometers. We analyze the topography and infrared contrast of these networks to obtain spatial distribution of local strain and its effect on the infrared-active phonons of hBN.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinicopathological features of conjunctival actinic keratosis (AK) and relation to the infection of human papillomavirus (HPV). Method: Retrospective case series study. Eighteen cases (18 eyes) of conjunctival AK were obtained in Tianjin Eye Hospital and Institute (2005-2018). The clinical and histopathological features were studied. HPV was detected by a modified general primer HPV polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system in all formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens. Results: The male to female ratio was 5∶1. The mean age at diagnosis was 60 years (range: 43-79 years). Sixteen cases were located in the nasal interpalpebral region, and two cases were located in the temporal interpalpebral region. All cases were located in corneal limbus, and the mean distance of corneal invasion was 2 mm (range, 1-4 mm). The mean diameter was 4.6 mm (range, 2.0-8.0 mm). Clinically, most lesions (16 cases) appeared as a white or milky, flat plaque with clear borderline and conjunctival hyperemia; a few lesions (2 cases) showed a brown-black mass, partially white. Pathologically, conjunctival AK was a proliferation of epithelium with prominent parakeratosis or hyperkeratosis, stratum spinosm thickening and basal cell proliferation. Many AKs show solar elastosis and a mild inflammatory infiltrate of lymphocytes and plasma cells in the stroma. Most lesions (15 cases) were hypertrophic type, two cases were pigmented type, and one case was acantholytic type. HPV was negative in 18 cases. All case were removed by complete surgical excision. The rage of follow-up period was 1.0-10.4 years, ten cases were recorded, and no case recurred after surgical excision. Conclusions: Conjunctival AK is epithelial precancerous lesion that occurs in the keratoconjunctival margin. HPV infection might not be a causative factor in conjunctival AK. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the mid-to-long-term efficacy of patients with chronic ankle instability combined with posterior impingement syndrome after 3-9 years of follow-up, and to analyze the influencing factors. METHODS From February 2010 to December 2015, 46 patients underwent concurrent lateral ankle ligament repair with posterior ankle arthroscopic surgery at the Institute of Sports Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital. The patient was first placed in a prone position and underwent arthroscopic debridement for the posterior impingement. After finishing the posterior arthroscopy, the surgeon and assistants first translated the patient to the affected side, then turned to the healthy side, and changed the position to the supine position. During the turning over, another assistant held the arthroscope and the instrument to ensure that it was sterile and could be used without replacement. The anterior ankle arthroscopy was operated if necessary and the lateral ankle ligament repair was anatomic repaired with anchors. The 42 patients were followed up, including 26 males and 16 females. The average age was (28.9±10.0) years. The patient's clinical symptoms, joint stability, mobility and motor function were compared by questionnaire and physical examination. The preoperative and postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scores, Tegner scores were compared, and the clinical scores and the patient age, gender, height and weight were compared. The correlations between body mass index (BMI), preoperative duration, surgery duration, and cartilage injury were analyzed. RESULTS The mean follow-up time was (71.8±22.8) months. The postoperative VAS scores (1.0 vs. 5.0, P<0.001), AOFAS scores (92 vs. 80, P<0.001), and Tegner scores (6.5 vs. 2, P<0.001) were significantly superior to the preoperative levels. The excellent and good rate was 97.6%. The postoperative VAS score (t=2.719, P=0.10), AOFAS score (t=-2.853, P=0.10), Tegner score (t=-3.443, P=0.001) and time to return exercise (t=2.814, P=0.008) were negatively correlated with the patient age, and the postoperative VAS score was negatively correlated with cartilage injury (Z=-2.195, P=0.028). CONCLUSION The mid-to-long-term clinical outcomes of the chronic ankle ligament instability combined with the posterior impingement were good. The age of the patients was negatively correlated with the clinical outcome. The combined cartilage injury could aggravate the postoperative pain.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate clinical characteristics and renal uric acid excretion in early-onset gout patients. Methods: Consecutive inpatients with primary gout were recruited between 2013 and 2017. The patients with gout onset younger than 30 were defined as early-onset group while the others were enrolled as control group. Clinical characteristics and uric acid (UA) indicators were compared between two groups. Results: Among 202 recruited patients, the early-onset group included 36 patients (17.8%). Compared with control group, the early-onset group presented more patients with obesity [13 patients (36.1%) vs. 22 patients (13.3%), P<0.05], significantly higher serum UA level [(634±124)μmol/L vs.(527±169)μmol/L] and glomerular load of UA[(7.2±2.8)mg·min(-1)·1.73m(-2) vs. (4.4±2.2)mg·min(-1)·1.73m(-2)] and estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) [(83±21)ml·min(-1)·1.73m(-2) vs. (67±21)ml·min(-1)·1.73m(-2)] (all P<0.05), lower fractional excretion of UA [4.4% (3.4%,6.1%) vs. 7.2% (5.2%,9.6%),P<0.05], whereas 24h urinary UA excretion was comparable [(2 788±882)μmol/1.73m(2) vs. (2 645±1 140)μmol/1.73m(2), P=0.274]. Subgroup analysis of patients without chronic kidney disease showed significantly lower fractional excretion of UA in the early-onset group [4.5%(3.3%,6.1%) vs. 6.7% (5.1%,8.7%),P<0.05]. Logistic regression analysis showed that obesity (OR=3.25) and fractional excretion of UA less than 7% (OR=9.01, all P<0.05) were risk factors of gout early onset. Conclusion: The gout patients with early-onset younger than 30 present high serum and glomerular load of uric acid which might be due to obesity and relative under-excretion of renal uric acid.

Abstract
A series of core/shell nanoparticle organic/inorganic hybrid materials (NOHMs) with different weight ratios of two components, consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and silicon dioxide (SiO2) as the core were synthesized. The NOHMs display a liquid-like state in the absence of solvent at room temperature. Five NOHMs were categorized into three kinds of structure states based on different weight ratio of two components in the core, named the power strip model, the critical model and the collapse model. The capture capacities of these NOHMs for CO2 were investigated at 298 K and CO2 pressures ranging from 0 to 5 MPa. Compared with NOHMs having a neat MWCNT core, it was revealed that NOHMs with the power strip model show better adsorption capacity toward CO2 due to its lower viscosity and more reactive groups that can react with CO2. In addition, the capture capacities of NOHMs with the critical model were relatively worse than the neat MWCNT-based NOHM. The result is attributed to the aggregation of SiO2 in these samples, which may cause the consumption and hindrance of reactive groups. However, the capture capacity of NOHMs with the collapse model was the worst of all the NOHMs, owing to its lowest content of reactive groups and hollow structure in MWCNTs. In addition, they presented non-interference of MWCNTs and SiO2 without aggregation state.

Abstract
Snow chrysanthemum (Coreopsis tinctoria Nutt.), a world-widely well-known flower tea material, has attracted more and more attention because of its beneficial health effects such as antioxidant activity and special flavor. In this study, a high performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection and mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-MS) and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-sulfonic acid)diammonium salt (ABTS) based assay was employed for comparison and identification of antioxidants in different samples of snow chrysanthemum. The results showed that snow chrysanthemum flowers possessed the highest while stems presented the lowest antioxidant capacities. Fourteen detected peaks with antioxidant activity were temporarily identified as 3,4',5,6,7-pentahydroxyflavanone-O-hexoside, chlorogenic acid, 2R-3',4',8-trihydroxyflavanone-7-O-glucoside, flavanomarein, flavanocorepsin, flavanokanin, quercetagitin-7-O-glucoside, 3',5,5',7-tetrahydroxyflavanone-O-hexoside, marein, maritimein, 1,3-dicaffeoylquinic acid, coreopsin, okanin and acetyl-marein by comparing their UV spectra, retention times and MS data with standards or literature data. Antioxidants existed in snow chrysanthemum are quite different from those reported in Chrysanthemum morifolium, a well-known traditional beverage in China, which indicated that snow chrysanthemum may be a promising herbal tea material with obvious antioxidant activity.

A strong steric hindrance effect on ground state, excited state, and charge separated state properties of a Cu(I)-diimine complex captured by X-ray transient absorption spectroscopy. Abstract
Photophysical and structural properties of a Cu(I) diimine complex with very strong steric hindrance, [Cu(I)(dppS)2](+) (dppS = 2,9-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline disulfonic acid disodium salt), are investigated by optical and X-ray transient absorption (OTA and XTA) spectroscopy. The bulky phenylsulfonic acid groups at 2,9 positions of phenanthroline ligands force the ground state and the metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) excited state to adopt a flattened pseudo-tetrahedral coordination geometry in which the solvent access to the copper center is completely blocked. We analyzed the MLCT state dynamics and structures as well as those of the charge separated state resulting from the interfacial electron injection from the MLCT state to TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs). The OTA results show the absence of the sub-picosecond component previously assigned as the time constant for flattening, while the two observed time constants are assigned to a relatively slow intersystem crossing (ISC) rate (∼13.8 ps) and a decay rate (100 ns) of the [Cu(I)(dppS)2](+) MLCT state in water. These results correlate well with the XTA studies that resolved a flattened tetrahedral Cu(i) coordination geometry in the ground state. Probing the (3)MLCT state structure with XTA establishes that the (3)MLCT state has the same oxidation state as the copper center in [Cu(II)(dppS)2](2+) and the Cu-N distance is reduced by 0.06 Å compared to that of the ground state, accompanied by a rotation of phenyl rings located at 2,9 positions of phenanthroline. The structural dynamics of the photoinduced charge transfer process in the [Cu(I)(dppS)2](+)/TiO2 hybrid is also investigated, which suggests a more restricted environment for the complex upon binding to TiO2 NPs. Moreover, the Cu-N bond length of the oxidized state of [Cu(I)(dppS)2](+) after electron injection to TiO2 NPs shortens by 0.05 Å compared to that in the ground state. The interpretation of these observed structural changes associated with excited and charge separated states will be discussed. These results not only set an example for applying XTA in capturing the intermediate structure of metal complex/semiconductor NP hybrids but also provide guidance for designing efficient Cu(I) diimine complexes with optimized structures for application in solar-to-electricity conversion.

Abstract
Our previous study has showed that DLC1 acts as a functional tumor suppressor in colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines. The aims of this study were to determine whether DLC1 is a target of MicroRNA (miRNA) regulation and to evaluate the role of this mechanism in CRC. By bioinformatics approach and literature, miR-141 was chosen for further study. The miR-141 mimic, miR-141 inhibitor were synthesized and transfected to Lovo cells. Cell growth was determined by MTT and in vivo models. The flow cytometric analysis for cell cycle determination and transwell assays for evaluating the cell invasion were used. Luciferase reporter assays and Western blots showed that DLC1 was a direct target of miR-141 in CRC. The expression levels of miR-141 were obviously up-regulated in CRC tissues compared to non-cancerous tissues, while DLC1 expression levels were down-regulated in a high proportion of clinical samples (14/18). In addition, correlation analyses revealed negative correlation between miR-141 levels and DLC1 expression levels in CRC tissues. MiR-141 overexpression promoted cell growth in vitro and in vivo, promoted cell cycle progression and invasion in Lovo cells. Furthermore, re-introduction of DLC-1 in miR-141-overexpressing Lovo cells decreased growth rate of cells, increase of the percentage in G0/G1 phase and decreased the number of migrating cells. In conclusion, we demonstrated that miR-141 is up-regulated in CRC and acts as a functional oncogene by targeting DLC1.

Abstract
Upon evaporation, ZnO nanorods in a nanofluid droplet undergo rapid and spontaneous chemical and morphological transformation into centimetre-long Zn(OH)2 fibres, via a mechanism very different from that for coffee rings. We show that the detailed nanostructure and micromorphology in the residual thin film depend intricately on the ambient moisture, nanofluid solvent composition and substrate surface chemistry. Upon thermal annealing, these Zn(OH)2 fibres readily undergo further chemical and morphological transformation, forming nanoporous fibres with the pore size tuneable by temperature. Our results point to a simple route for generating a self-assembled 3D structure with ultralong and nanoporous ZnO/Zn(OH)2 fibres/belts, and may also be of interest to the fields of evaporation controlled dynamic self-assembly, non-equilibrium crystallisation, and flow and fingering instabilities in nanofluids.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To characterize histologic alterations and inflammatory infiltrates in the synovium of patients with chronic septic arthritis (SeA). METHODS Synovial membranes from patients with SeA (9 specimens; disease duration >4 weeks) were compared with specimens from patients with septic joint prosthesis loosening (septic total arthroplasty [SeTA]; 9 specimens), rheumatoid arthritis (RA; 25 specimens), osteoarthritis (25 specimens), and normal histology (10 specimens). Sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, tissue gram stain, and immunostains for von Willebrand factor (vWF; blood vessels), Ki-67 (dividing cells), CD15 (neutrophils), CD3 (T cells), CD20 (B cells), CD38 (plasma cells), and CD68 (macrophages). RESULTS Gram stains were positive in all SeA and SeTA specimens. Mixed polymorphonuclear and mononuclear infiltrates predominated in SeA and SeTA. SeA could be differentiated from RA by higher densities of CD15+ cells (SeA:RA ratio 6.5:1; P < 0.001) or Ki-67+ cells (ratio 2.1:1; P = 0.012). The inflammatory infiltrate of SeTA was similar to SeA but contained fewer CD3+ cells (SeTA versus SeA 0.26:1; P = 0.009) and a tendency toward fewer CD20+ cells. Mean vascular density was strikingly increased in SeA (SeA:normal ratio 3.0:1; P < 0.001) and, to a lesser extent, in the vascularized areas of the SeTA specimens (SeTA:normal ratio 1.9:1). Ki-67/CD31 double immunostains demonstrated proliferating endothelial cells in small subintimal blood vessels, suggesting angiogenesis. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis identified higher densities of CD15+ and Ki-67+ cells and vWF-positive vessels as histologic markers that differentiated SeA from RA. CONCLUSION This first analysis of the synovium in patients with chronic pyogenic arthritis identified dramatic neovascularization and cell proliferation, accompanied by persistent bacterial colonization and heterogeneous inflammatory infiltrates rich in CD15+ neutrophils, as histopathologic hallmarks.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study was to use adenoviral vector-mediated nuclear factor-kappaBp65 (NF-kappaBp65)-specific siRNA (Ad-siRNA(NF-kappaBp65)) to suppress the progression of early osteoarthritis (OA) in rat model, and therefore to explore a new gene therapy for OA. METHODS Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was performed to confirm the silencing effect of Ad-siRNA(NF-kappaBp65) in cultured rat chondrocytes. Transection of the medial collateral ligament plus partial medial meniscectomy was operated in the knee of rats to establish OA model. Histological analysis was made to assess the morphological change of cartilage and synovium, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was made to measure the expression of cytokines, such as interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), in synovial fluid. The silencing effect of Ad-siRNA(NF-kappaBp65) on NF-kappaBp65 in cartilage and synovium of knee was measured with Western blot and the activation of NF-kappaB was measured with electrophoretic mobility shift assays. RESULTS Ad-siRNA(NF-kappaBp65) can inhibit the activation of NF-kappaB and the expression of NF-kappaBp65 in cartilage and synovium of the knee, restrain the induction of IL-1beta and TNF-alpha in synovial fluid, alleviate the inflammation of synovium and reduce the degradation of cartilage in early phase of experimental OA. CONCLUSIONS Ad-siRNA(NF-kappaBp65) can suppress the progression of the early experimental OA which suggests that Ad-siRNA(NF-kappaBp65) has potential to be a useful preventive and therapeutic agent for OA.

Abstract
A quantitative method using HPLC-MS(2) has been developed for the determination of adonifoline, one of the retronecine-type hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids in Senecio scandens Buch.-Ham. ex D. Don., a traditional Chinese herb. Using an orthogonal design test, a simple and rapid sample extraction method was developed. HPLC analysis was conducted using a C(18) column as stationary phase and a mixture of acetonitrile and aqueous formic acid as mobile phase. Good linearity for adonifoline was found in the concentration range 0.12-4.18 microg/mL, and the HPLC-MS/MS method was shown to be appropriate, in terms of sensitivity, precision and reproducibility. The quantities of adonifoline in extracts of 18 plant samples from different collection sources and from different parts (flowers, leaves, thick stems, slim stems and roots) of S. scandens were determined using the newly developed HPLC/MS(2) analysis.

Expression and distribution of S-100 protein, CD83 and apoptosis-related proteins (Fas, FasL and Bcl-2) in thyroid tissues of autoimmune thyroid diseases. Eur J Histochem 2007; 51:291-300. Abstract
Previous studies have shown that dendritic cells (DCs) and apoptosis-related proteins play a critical role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune thyroid diseases (ATD). This study was designed to investigate the expression and distribution of S-100 protein, CD83 and apoptosis-related proteins (Fas, FasL and Bcl-2) in the thyroid tissues of ATD and their role in ATD pathogenesis as determined by immunochemical staing techniques and other methods. Pathological tissues of 30 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), 30 patients with Graves' disease (GD) and 30 cases of thyroid follicular adenoma (TFA, as control) were used for this study. A higher expression of S-100 in HT (4.2+/-3.1%) and GD (3.9+/-2.8%) vs TFA (0.95+/-0.64%) (p<0.001). was observed as well as a higher expression of CD83 in HT (22.58+/-13.96% and GD (29.92+/-14.43%) vs TFA (5.19+/-8.08%) (p<0.001). HT thyrocytes adjacent to thyroid infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) showed greater increases in the levels of Fas and FasL than did the GD thyrocytes while HT TILs exhibited lower expression of Fas and FasL than did the GD TILs. GD thyrocytes expressed increased levels of the antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 as compared to the low levels detected in HT thyrocytes. An opposite pattern was observed in the TILs in GD (low expression of Bcl-2) and HT (high expression of Bcl-2). The findings suggest that the high expression of DC markers is related to the pathogenesis of HT and GD. Up-regulation of both the number and matured functions of DCs may lead to the presentation of more antigens to lymphocytes which are related to the development of autoimmune thyroid diseases. The regulation of Fas/FasL/Bcl-2 in GD favors apoptosis of infiltrating lymphocytes and thyrocyte survival. The regulation of Fas/FasL/Bcl-2 in HT may promote thyrocyte apoptosis leading to hypothyroidism.

Roles of volume-activated Cl- currents and regulatory volume decrease in the cell cycle and proliferation in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells. Cell Prolif 2007; 40:253-67. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Previously it has been shown, that the volume-activated plasma membrane chloride channel is associated with regulatory volume decrease (RVD) of cells and may play an important role in control of cell proliferation. We have demonstrated that both expression of the channel and RVD capacity are actively regulated in the cell cycle. In this study, we aimed to further study the role of the volume-activated chloride current and RVD in cell cycle progression and overall in cell proliferation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Whole-cell currents, RVD, cell cycle distribution, cell proliferation and cell viability were measured or detected with the patch-clamp technique, the cell image analysis technique, flow cytometry, the MTT assay and the trypan blue assay respectively, in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells (CNE-2Z cells). RESULTS The Cl- channel blockers, 5-nitro-2-(3-phenylpropylamino) benzoic acid (NPPB) and tamoxifen, inhibit the volume-activated chloride current, RVD and proliferation of CNE-2Z cells in a dose-dependent manner. Analysis of relationships between the current, RVD and cell proliferation showed that both the current and RVD were positively correlated with cell proliferation. NPPB (100 microM) and tamoxifen (20 microM) did not significantly induce cell death, but inhibited cell proliferation, implying that the blockers may inhibit cell proliferation by affecting cell cycle progression. This was verified by the observation that tamoxifen (20 microM) and NPPB (100 microM) inhibited cell cycle progress and arrested cells at the G0/G1 phase boundary. CONCLUSIONS Activity of the volume-activated chloride channel is one of the important factors that regulate the passage of cells through the G1 restriction point and that the Cl- current associated with RVD plays an important role in cell proliferation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE An unexplained multisymptom illness, Gulf War veterans' illness (GWVI), has been described among allied force veterans of the first Gulf War (1990-1991). It has been proposed that some of its symptoms reflect an immune dysfunction, and rheumatologic symptoms including joint pain and stiffness are reported frequently. However, it is unknown whether synovial inflammation causes the articular symptoms. We examined synovial tissue from individuals with GWVI and joint pain for evidence of inflammation. METHODS We compared synovial biopsy samples from 6 individuals with GWVI and joint pain with samples from 9 clinically asymptomatic controls (hematoxylin and eosin [H&E] stains only) and biopsy samples or surgically obtained specimens from 10 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and 12 with osteoarthritis (OA). Inflammatory changes were quantified in H&E stained sections with a modified synovitis score by immunostaining for CD3, CD20, CD38, CD68, Ki-67, and von Willebrand factor, and with a composite inflammation score based on these markers. RESULTS Normal histology was seen in the GWVI specimens, except for mild focal lining hyperplasia and rare low-grade perivascular infiltrates in 1 specimen each. Mean +/- SEM synovitis scores were lowest and nearly identical in control (1.38 +/- 0.30) and GWVI specimens (1.41 +/- 0.29), intermediate in OA specimens (2.64 +/- 0.39), and highest in RA specimens (6.0 +/- 0.19). Likewise, inflammatory cells, cell division, vascular density, and composite inflammation score were lowest in the GWVI specimens. CONCLUSION Despite significant joint pain, the GWVI synovia did not differ from normal controls. These results agree with other studies that have failed to document inflammatory or immunologic etiologies in GWVI.

Detection and initial characterization of synovial lining fragments in synovial fluid. Rheumatology (Oxford) 2005; 45:533-7. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Free fragments of synovium have occasionally been seen in synovial fluid but have not been studied systematically. We wished to establish a method for the reliable detection of these fragments in joint and bursa effusions and begin to characterize them by histochemical and immunohistochemical methods. METHODS Cell smears, wet drop preparations and cytospins were prepared from 39 consecutive joint and bursa effusions. Paraffin cell blocks were prepared from a subset. Analysis encompassed standard and polarized light microscopy, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and transmission electron microscopy (EM). Synovial biopsy tissue from one different patient was examined for comparison. RESULTS Tissue fragments were not seen in Wright-stained cell smears and only rarely in wet drop preparations. In contrast, variously sized fragments with the histological appearance of hyperplastic synovial lining were detected in ethanol-fixed, haematoxylin/eosin-stained cytospins from bursitis and all arthropathies studied [17/24 (71%) of non-inflammatory and 12/15 (80%) of inflammatory specimens]. Immunostaining revealed CD68 expression in a subset of cells in a pattern characteristic of hyperplastic synovial lining. Juxtaposed cells with morphological features of macrophage-like and fibroblast-like synoviocytes were seen by EM. CONCLUSIONS Synovial lining fragments can be detected in effusions from diverse arthropathies and bursitis. They maintain important properties of the synovial lining and can be analysed by immunohistochemistry. They may afford the opportunity to study a relatively pure preparation of synovial lining cells without the need for cell culture, and to evaluate their possible role in augmenting or perpetuating synovitis or joint damage.

Abstract
The difference between the transfer of poly(vinylpyrrolidone)-protected Au and Ag nanoparticles from an aqueous solution to toluene was used to develop a simple experimental procedure that can positively identify the formation of bimetallic Ag-Au nanoparticles with the core-shell structure. The method was validated by UV-visible spectroscopy, EDX, and TEM measurements. Using this technique, we have found that core-shell nanoparticles of Ag-Au were formed by the seed-mediated growth method using Ag nanoparticles as the seeds. The reversed order of using Au nanoparticles as the seeds, on the contrary, could only produce a physical mixture of Ag-Au core-shell nanoparticles and isolated Ag nanoparticles.

Abstract
Ag-Pt nanoparticles with a confirmed core-shell structure could only be formed by the successive reduction method using Ag nanoparticles as the seeds. The core-shell structure could be conveniently inferred from the transferability of the particles from water to toluene. Independent measurements by UV-vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to validate the experimental results. The reverse order of synthesis using Pt nanoparticles as the seeds did not result in any core-shell product. Instead a physical mixture of Ag nanoparticles and the original Pt seeds was obtained under the same experimental conditions.

Abstract
Early diagnosis is being appropriately emphasized in RA, as early DMARD treatment can be very effective. ACR criteria are useful but may not perform as well in early disease. These criteria depend on clinical examination, which is subject to over- and under-interpretation. Ultrasound and MRI may offer advantages. Laboratory tests and synovial fluid analyses may contribute, but are often not definitive. All of these data, synovial biopsies and a variety of other features can guide prognosis as well as diagnosis. Consideration of the whole patient, including education levels and coping strategies, can help. Aggressive management is proposed for most patients once the diagnosis is firm. Strategies are needed to arrange that patients are seen at a very early stage by rheumatologists knowledgeable in the treatment of early arthritis. Early diagnosis is receiving increasing emphasis in RA, with the recognition that erosive irreversible disease can occur in the first months and that a variety of treatments can clearly prevent or slow disease progression (1, 2). Most studies addressing early RA use the American Rheumatism Association (ARA), now the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), criteria (3) for purposes of uniformity although these criteria have been shown to be less valid in early disease (4). Early DMARD treatment can make a difference, but there are a number of unanswered or partially answered questions about diagnosis that remain to be addressed. We review this area, focusing on work from our own research and how this has guided our thinking.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of [Nphe1]nociceptin(1-13)-NH2 on nociceptin-induced decreases in mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), and hindquarters vascular bed resistance (HVBR) of the anesthetized rat. The results showed that i.c.v. or i.v. [Nphe1]nociceptin(1-13)-NH2 (1.5-12 nmol/kg and 5-120 nmol/kg, respectively) could antagonize the depressor effects of i.c.v. or i.v. nociceptin (3 and 30 nmol/kg, respectively) on MAP and HR. Furthermore, [Nphe1]nociceptin(1-13)-NH2 (5-120 nmol/kg) could reverse nociceptin (30 nmol/kg)-induced decrease of HVBR. However, [Nphe1]nociceptin(1-13)-NH2 had no significant effects on similar effects induced by morphine. Our results suggest that [Nphe1]nociceptin(1-13)-NH2 acts as a selective antagonist of the nociceptin receptor in the cardiovascular system of the rat.

Abstract
The determination of the structure of transient molecules, such as photoexcited states, in disordered media (such as in solution) usually requires methods with high temporal resolution. The transient molecular structure of a reaction intermediate produced by photoexcitation of NiTPP-L2 (NiTPP, nickeltetraphenylporphyrin; L, piperidine) in solution was determined by x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) data obtained on a 14-nanosecond time scale from a third-generation synchrotron source. The XAFS measurements confirm that photoexcitation leads to the rapid removal of both axial ligands to produce a transient square-planar intermediate, NiTPP, with a lifetime of 28 nanoseconds. The transient structure of the photodissociated intermediate is nearly identical to that of the ground state NiTPP, suggesting that the intermediate adopts the same structure as the ground state in a noncoordinating solvent before it recombines with two ligands to form the more stable octahedrally coordinated NiTPP-L2.

Abstract
To characterize the volume-activated Cl(-) current in bovine pigmented ciliary epithelial (PCE) cells, the whole-cell patch clamp technique was employed. Exposure to a hypotonic solution induced a volume-activated Cl(-) current. The activation of the current depended on intracellular ATP. The current showed a characteristic outward rectification. There was no, or negligible, time-dependent inactivation of the current. The current-voltage relationship showed that the reversal potential of the hypotonic-activated current ( 6.3 0.5 mV) was close to the calculated equilibrium potential for Cl(-) (ECl=0 mV). Extracellular ATP inhibited both outward and inward currents, but the inhibition of outward currents was larger than that of inward currents (92% vs 74%, P<0.01). The current was also blocked by extracellular application of tamoxifen, a Cl( ) channel inhibitor, the effects of which were almost equal for both outward and inward currents (85% vs 87%, P>0.05). The properties of this current are quite similar to those of the volume-activated Cl(-) current associated with P-glycoprotein in other cell types, suggesting that P-glycoprotein may be involved in the activation of the volume-activated Cl(-) current in PCE cells.

Abstract
The fly Drosophila melanogaster is one of the most intensively studied organisms in biology and serves as a model system for the investigation of many developmental and cellular processes common to higher eukaryotes, including humans. We have determined the nucleotide sequence of nearly all of the approximately 120-megabase euchromatic portion of the Drosophila genome using a whole-genome shotgun sequencing strategy supported by extensive clone-based sequence and a high-quality bacterial artificial chromosome physical map. Efforts are under way to close the remaining gaps; however, the sequence is of sufficient accuracy and contiguity to be declared substantially complete and to support an initial analysis of genome structure and preliminary gene annotation and interpretation. The genome encodes approximately 13,600 genes, somewhat fewer than the smaller Caenorhabditis elegans genome, but with comparable functional diversity.

Abstract
AIM To study the protective effects of Ginkgo biloba extract (GbE) against endothelial cell damage induced by lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC). METHODS The vasorelaxation response to acetylcholine (ACh) were investigated in the isolated rabbit thoracic aorta. Lipid peroxidation products were determined by measuring thiobarbituric acid reactive substance. RESULTS GbE attenuated the inhibition of vasorelaxation response to ACh and prevented the LPC-induced increase of malondialdehyde (MDA) content both in thoracic aortae. GbE prevented the leakage of LDH and the increase of MDA content in cultured endothelial cells in a concentration-dependent manner. GbE also markedly increased epoprostenol level in cultured endothelial cells treated with LPC. CONCLUSION GbE protected endothelial cells against LPC-induced damage due to reduction in lipid peroxidation and facilitation of synthesis and/or release of epoprostenol.

Abstract
Retinoids including retinoic acid (RA) have been demonstrated to be effective growth inhibitors of a number of human cancer cell lines including ovarian adenocarcinoma cells. To begin to determine the mechanism of action by which RA inhibits the growth of ovarian carcinoma cells, we have examined AP-1 activity in two representative cell lines: CaOV-3 a RA-sensitive cell line and SK-OV-3 a RA-resistant cell line. AP-1 activity was found to be inhibited by 50% upon RA treatment of the RA-sensitive cells while there was no change in AP-1 activity following RA treatment of the RA-resistant cells. Maximal inhibition of AP-1 activity could be achieved in the RA-resistant SK-OV-3 cells by overexpression of any one of the three retinoic acid receptor (RAR) subtypes in conjunction with retinoid X receptor (RXR) alpha. This inhibition of AP-1 activity was nearly comparable to that of the RA-sensitive cells. A similar change in AP-1 complex formation in vitro has also been observed. These results suggest that one mechanism by which RA inhibits growth of RA-sensitive ovarian carcinoma cells is by repressing AP-1 activity. Moreover, in the RA-resistant cells the RAR/RXR signalling pathway leading to inhibition of AP-1 activity is impaired however overexpression of one of the RAR subtypes along with RXR alpha is sufficient to restore this pathway.

Abstract
Cellular retinoic acid-binding protein type II (CRABP-II) is one of two small molecular weight, cytosolic proteins which specifically bind retinoic acid (RA). Crystallographic and site-directed mutagenesis studies of several related proteins have indicated that either one or two conserved amino acid residues, homologous to positions Arg111 and Arg132 of CRABP-II, are important for the binding of the hydrophobic ligand. In this report we have prepared site-directed mutations of these two positions of CRABP-II, Arg111 and Arg132, as well as Lys82 to determine the role of these residues in the binding of RA. Recombinant wild type and mutant CRABP-II proteins were expressed and purified, and the affinity for retinoids was determined by fluorometric titration and binding of 3H-labeled compounds. K82A displayed an identical Kd for all-trans-RA as wild type CRABP-II and the Kd for all-trans-RA of R111A was only slightly higher. On the other hand, the two Arg132 mutants, R132A and R132Q, of CRABP-II demonstrated undetectable binding of all-trans-RA. Taken together these data demonstrate that Arg132 is a critical amino acid residue for the binding of RA by CRABP-II.

Abstract
Dynamic observations for 4 weeks were made on left ventricular function and oxygen free radical (OFR) in 43 patients first suffering from acute myocardial infarction and hospitalized in Coronary Care Unit with an attack less than 36 hours. The results showed that the Astragalus membranaceus (AM) could strengthen the left ventricular function and had an effect of anti-OFR. After administration of AM, the ratio of pre-ejection period/left ventricular ejection time (PEP/LVET) was decreased, the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of red blood cell was increased, and the lipid peroxidation (LPO) content of plasma was reduced. There was a significant difference between the AM group and the control group in the parameters above-mentioned. The study demonstrated that the PEP/LVET ratio was closely correlated with the SOD and LPO. It suggested that the anti-OFR effect of AM was one of the mechanisms of its cardiotonic action.
