Abstract
Peri-implantitis can cause marginal bone remodeling around implants. The aim is to develop an automatic image processing approach based on two artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in intraoral (periapical and bitewing) radiographs to assist dentists in determining bone loss. The first is a deep learning (DL) object-detector (YOLOv3) to roughly identify (no exact localization is required) two objects: prosthesis (crown) and implant (screw). The second is an image understanding-based (IU) process to fine-tune lines on screw edges and to identify significant points (intensity bone changes, intersections between screw and crown). Distances between these points are used to compute bone loss. A total of 2920 radiographs were used for training (50%) and testing (50%) the DL process. The mAP@0.5 metric is used for performance evaluation of DL considering periapical/bitewing and screws/crowns in upper and lower jaws, with scores ranging from 0.537 to 0.898 (sufficient because DL only needs an approximation). The IU performance is assessed with 50% of the testing radiographs through the t test statistical method, obtaining p values of 0.0106 (line fitting) and 0.0213 (significant point detection). The IU performance is satisfactory, as these values are in accordance with the statistical average/standard deviation in pixels for line fitting (2.75/1.01) and for significant point detection (2.63/1.28) according to the expert criteria of dentists, who establish the ground-truth lines and significant points. In conclusion, AI methods have good prospects for automatic bone loss detection in intraoral radiographs to assist dental specialists in diagnosing peri-implantitis.

Abstract
The health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively influenced the work of health staff, especially nurses. Stressors that affect nurses have been intensified and new stressors have also emerged, threatening their well-being and job performance. The main objective of this study is to analyze the role of nurses´ personal resources in the relationship between job stressors and job performance during the COVID-19. Sample is composed of 438 nurses from 39 Spanish cities. This is a cross-sectional study. The results confirm the full mediation of resilience in the relationship between stressors and job performance, and the moderation of self-efficacy in the relationship between resilience and job performance, and in the full mediation. This study highlight the role played by self-efficacy as the main personal resource in buffering the effect of stressors on nurses´ performance. Resilience only becomes crucial in individuals with low levels of self-efficacy beliefs. Managers of health institutions and hospitals are invited to invest resources in strengthening the personal resources of health staff, especially self-efficacy beliefs, and resilience to ensure that their performance remains adequate.

Abstract
Image reconstruction in optoacoustic tomography (OAT) is a trending learning task highly dependent on measured physical magnitudes present at sensing time. A large number of different settings and also the presence of uncertainties or partial knowledge of parameters can lead to reconstruction algorithms that are specifically tailored and designed to a particular configuration, which could not be the one that will ultimately be faced in a final practical situation. Being able to learn reconstruction algorithms that are robust to different environments (e.g., the different OAT image reconstruction settings) or invariant to such environments is highly valuable because it allows us to focus on what truly matters for the application at hand and discard what are considered spurious features. In this work, we explore the use of deep learning algorithms based on learning invariant and robust representations for the OAT inverse problem. In particular, we consider the application of the ANDMask scheme due to its easy adaptation to the OAT problem. Numerical experiments are conducted showing that when out-of-distribution generalization (against variations in parameters such as the location of the sensors) is imposed, there is no degradation of the performance and, in some cases, it is even possible to achieve improvements with respect to standard deep learning approaches where invariance robustness is not explicitly considered.

Abstract
Analyzing factors that contribute to job burnout and job satisfaction among customs officers are crucial for customs administration effectiveness and the country's safety. Based on the Conservation of Resources Theory (COR), we analyze how ethical leadership, job resources, and burnout play a role in customs officers' job satisfaction. Online questionnaires were administered to 53.6% (n = 193) of the customs officers of one Latin American country. Hypotheses were tested through mediation analysis using PROCESS macro for SPSS. Results show that ethical leadership significantly relates to job resources and job satisfaction, but not to burnout. Ethical leadership relates to job satisfaction indirectly through job resources and burnout. The indirect effect serial mediation model (ethical leadership -> job resources -> burnout -> satisfaction) was significant. Our results provide evidence that ethical leadership is an important component to shape the perception of job resources (i.e. autonomy and task significance) and foremost to reduce stress and improve satisfaction.

Abstract
Background Physical Frailty Phenotype (PFP) is the most used frailty instrument among kidney transplant recipients, classifying patients as pre-frail if they have 1–2 criteria and as frail if they have ≥3. However, different definitions of robustness have been used among renal patients, including only those who have 0 criteria, or those with 0–1 criteria. Our aim was to determine the impact of one PFP criterion on transplant outcomes. Methods We undertook a retrospective study of 296 kidney transplant recipients who had been evaluated for frailty by PFP at the time of evaluating for transplantation. Results Only 30.4% of patients had 0 criteria, and an additional 42.9% showed one PFP criterion. As PFP score increased, a higher percentage of women and cerebrovascular disease were found. Recipients with 0–1 criteria had lower 1-year mortality after transplant than those with ≥2 (1.8% vs 10.1%), but this difference was already present when we only considered those who scored 0 (mortality 1.1%) and 1 (mortality 2.4%) separately. The multivariable analysis confirmed that one PFP criterion was associated to a higher risk of patient death after kidney transplantation [hazard ratio 3.52 (95% confidence interval 1.03–15.9)]. Conclusions Listed kidney transplant candidates frequently show only one PFP frailty criterion. This has an independent impact on patient survival after transplantation.

Abstract
Background Frailty is defined as decreased physiologic reserve and resistance to stressors that predisposes patients towards poor health results. Its prevalence in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients who are kidney transplant (KT) candidates is high. Frailty is associated with a higher rate of complications and mortality after transplant. It is unknown whether frailty phenotype differs depending on sex in this population. Methods This was a prospective longitudinal study of 455 KT candidates evaluated for frailty by physical frailty phenotype at the time of inclusion on the KT waiting list. Pre-frailty was defined as the presence of two criteria and frailty as three or more criteria. Univariate and multivariate analyses searched for associations of frailty status, frailty components and gender differences. Results Thirty percent of the total cohort resulted to be pre-frail (20%) or frail (10.3%), but disparities were observed between sexes, with 22.5% of men and 47.2% of women falling into one of these categories. Among frailty criteria, women presented with a higher percentage of exhaustion (39.6% versus 17%) and slowness (22.2% versus 9.6%) compared with men. Comorbidity burden was higher among frail men, whereas social factors were poorer between frail women. Disability was common among those patients who were frail, both men and women. Conclusions Frailty is twice as frequent in advanced CKD women as men. Frailty criteria distribution and phenotype seem to differ among sexes, which might have implications in terms of specific and individualized interventions to improve their status before transplantation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the diagnostic performance of transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the prediction of deep myometrial invasion (DMI) and cervical stromal invasion (CSI) in patients with low-grade (Grade 1 or 2) endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC). METHODS This was a prospective study including all patients with low-grade EEC diagnosed between October 2013 and July 2018 at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, Spain. Preoperative staging was performed using TVS and MRI, followed by surgical staging. Final histology was considered as the reference standard. Sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratios and diagnostic accuracy were calculated for both imaging techniques in the prediction of DMI and CSI, and the agreement index was calculated for both techniques. The STARD 2015 guidelines were followed. RESULTS A total of 131 patients with low-grade EEC were included consecutively. Sensitivity was higher for TVS than for MRI both for the prediction of DMI (69% (95% CI, 53-82%) vs 51% (95% CI, 36-66%), respectively) and CSI (43% (95% CI, 27-61%) vs 24% (95% CI, 12-41%), respectively). Specificity was similar for TVS and MRI in the prediction of DMI (87% (95% CI, 78-93%) vs 91% (95% CI, 82-96%)) and equal in the prediction of CSI (97% (95% CI, 91-99%) for both). The agreement index between TVS and MRI was 0.84 (95% CI, 0.76-0.90) for DMI and 0.92 (95% CI, 0.85-0.96) for CSI. CONCLUSIONS The diagnostic performance of TVS is similar to that of MRI for the prediction of DMI and CSI in low-grade EEC, and TVS can play a role as a first-line imaging technique in the preoperative evaluation of low-grade EEC. © 2021 International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

specific recognition of AT-rich DNA sequences opens up the
door to promising diagnostic and/or therapeutic strategies against
gene-related diseases. Here, we demonstrate that amphiphilic PtII complexes of the type [Pt(dmba)(N∧N)]NO3 (dmba = N,N-dimethylbenzylamine-κN, κC; N∧N = dpq (3), dppz (4), and dppn (5)) recognize AT-rich
oligonucleotides over other types of DNA, RNA, and model proteins.
The crystal structure of 4 shows the presence of significant
π-stacking interactions and a distorted coordination sphere
of the d8 PtII atom. Complex 5,
containing the largest π-conjugated ligand, forms supramolecular
assemblies at high concentrations under aqueous environment. However,
its aggregation can be promoted in the presence of DNA at concentrations
as low as 10 μM in a process that “turns on” its
excimer emission around 600 nm. Viscometry, gel electrophoresis, and
theoretical calculations demonstrate that 5 binds to
minor groove when self-assembled, while the monomers of 3 and 4 intercalate into the DNA. The complexes also
inhibit cancer cell growth with low-micromolar IC50 values
in 2D tissue culture and suppress tumor growth in 3D tumor spheroids
with a multicellular resistance (MCR) index comparable to that of
cisplatin. Cyclometalated PtII complexes
containing π-conjugated
ligands form supramolecular assemblies under aqueous environment,
and DNA-induced aggregation occurs for the one containing the highest
conjugated N,N-diimine ligand. The complexes recognize
AT-rich DNA sequences over others in DNA, RNA, and proteins. Their
DNA binding mode switches from intercalation to minor groove binding
when self-assembled. The complexes suppress tumor growth in 3D tumor
spheroids.

Abstract
The advantages of microbial induced carbonate mineralization for soil-stabilization and building-material industries are under extensive investigation. The pH is one of the influential parameters on the desired calcium carbonate mineralization due to the resulting textures of this mineral. Moreover, the decrease in microbial growth under the extreme alkaline environment compatible with the sustainability of concrete has been the bottleneck for an effective application of Microbial Induced Carbonate Precipitation (MICP) in the concrete industry. Microbial consortia have shown more robustness in their resistance to environmental fluctuations than pure cultures. In addition, microorganisms obtained from alkaline environments could facilitate their adaptation to extreme alkalinity. The aim of this study was to obtain urease producing bacteria (UPB) able to maintain a high MICP performance under extremely alkaline conditions compatible with concrete by adapting native microorganisms obtained from extreme environments. The growth performance, urease activity, strength of the generated biocement, and CaCO3 mineralogy were compared with the best-performer urease-producing bacteria (UPB), S. pasteurii DSMZ 33. The native bacteria presented a similar performance in growth and urease activity than S. pasteurii under extreme alkaline conditions (pH 12.5). However, the generated biocement of native Sporosarcina sp. achieved 461 % more unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and 120 % more CaCO3 content than the biocement generated by S. pasteurii DSMZ 33. The careful adaptation process performed in this study for native UPB and S. pasteurii DSMZ 33 is an interesting approach with promising and projectable results for future engineering and biotechnological applications. These results have important implications for the design of engineering solutions involving MICP. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: A consolidated and strong biocement was generated by a native species obtained from extreme ecosystems in an effort of bioprospecting to enhance the performance of biotechnological solutions for geotechnical applications in the concrete and soil-improvement industries. Biocement generated by the native species was stronger than the generated by one of the best-described biocementation performers. This native species was able to actively growing and do perform microbial-induced-carbonate-mineralization under extreme alkalinity conditions after a careful laboratory adaptation process. The native species presented unique and differentiating traits that gave it a better adaptability and biocementation performance. The same occurs with a priceless microbial diversity inhabiting little explored and unprotected extreme ecosystems. Extreme environments house a fascinating biodiversity with potential value for ecosystem services.

Abstract
Aims This study analyses the cross‐sectional effect of sources of stress during the peak of COVID‐19 pandemic on nurses´ psychological distress, focusing on the mediating role of coping strategies, both problem focused and emotion focused and resilience. Design Cross‐sectional and quantitative analyses. Methods Structural equation modelling was performed using survey data obtained during the period between 1 April‐25 May 2020 in a sample of 421 nurses from 39 Spanish provinces. Results Results confirmed that: (a) All the stressors have a significant, direct, and negative relationship with nurses´ psychological distress; (b) Emotion‐focused strategies is negatively related to nurses´ psychological distress directly and indirectly through resilience; and (c) Problem‐focused strategies is positively related to nurses´ psychological distress and negatively and indirectly through emotion‐focused strategies. Conclusion This study identifies an important mediation sequence of stressors on psychological distress through the simultaneous concurrent effect of Problem‐focused and Emotion‐focused strategies and resilience. It shows that enacting the two coping mechanisms and resilience resources is important to achieve an adaptive effect on nurses´ mental health. Impact Nurses with insufficient preparation and those with high levels of fear of contagion do not enact proper coping strategies. Thus, these nurses need special consideration due to their risk of higher vulnerability.

Abstract
AbstractThe synthesis of previously unattainable 2,5-disubstituted 4,5-dihydroimidazo[1,5-b]pyrazol-6-ones has been developed. Electrochemical reductions of readily available 2,2,2-trichloroethylideneacetophenones were followed by reaction with hydrazine, leading to 3-aryl-5-dichloromethyl-2-pyrazolines. These were treated with isocyanates to obtain the corresponding aminocarbonyl derivatives, which were found to be able to form an otherwise almost inaccessible imidazo[1,5-b]pyrazole ring system via a one-step reaction involving internal condensation followed by hydrogen chloride elimination and aromatization. The molecular structures of 2-(4-methylphenyl)-5-tosyl-4,5-dihydroimidazo[1,5-b]pyrazol-6-one, 5-dichloromethyl-N-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,5-dihydro-3-p-tolylpyrazole-1-carboxamide, and 5-(4-bromophenyl)-2-p-tolyl-4,5-dihydroimidazo[1,5-b]pyrazol-6-one were determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was twofold. The first aim was to analyze the detrimental effect that emotional dissonance may have on service workers by testing its relationship with job satisfaction, intention to leave the organization, and organizational deviance. The second was to test whether two types of social support (i.e., co-worker and organizational support) and their combination moderate these relationships from a multilevel perspective. The sample was composed of 556 employees from Spanish service sector. Using random coefficient models analyses, results showed, first, that emotional dissonance was related to lower levels of job satisfaction (PE = -.1, p < .05) and higher levels of intention to leave the organization (PE = .12, p < .05); second, that co-worker support moderate the relationship between emotional dissonance and job satisfaction (PE = .10, p < .05), organizational deviance (PE = -.08, p < .05), and intention to leave the organization (PE = -.13, p < .05); third, organizational support, conceptualized as a collective construct at organizational level, moderate the relationship between emotional dissonance and organizational deviance (PE = -.08, p < .05); and finally, the combination of both types of support do not explained additional variance of the emotional dissonance-outcomes relation. These results underline the need to take into consideration different source of social support and their levels of analysis to better understand emotional dissonance and its outcomes.

Abstract
Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans is an acidophilic bacterium able to grow in environments with high concentrations of metals. It is a chemolithoautotroph able to form biofilms on the surface of solid minerals to obtain its energy. The response of both planktonic and sessile cells of A. ferrooxidans ATCC 23270 grown in elemental sulfur and adapted to high copper concentration was analyzed by quantitative proteomics. It was found that 137 proteins varied their abundance when comparing both lifestyles. Copper effllux proteins, some subunits of the ATP synthase complex, porins, and proteins involved in cell wall modification increased their abundance in copper-adapted sessile lifestyle cells. On the other hand, planktonic copper-adapted cells showed increased levels of proteins such as: cupreredoxins involved in copper cell sequestration, some proteins related to sulfur metabolism, those involved in biosynthesis and transport of lipopolysaccharides, and in assembly of type IV pili. During copper adaptation a decreased formation of biofilms was measured as determined by epifluorescence microscopy. This was apparently due not only to a diminished number of sessile cells but also to their exopolysaccharides production. This is the first study showing that copper, a prevalent metal in biomining environments causes dispersion of A. ferrooxidans biofilms. SIGNIFICANCE: Copper is a metal frequently found in high concentrations at mining environments inhabitated by acidophilic microorganisms. Copper resistance determinants of A. ferrooxidans have been previously studied in planktonic cells. Although biofilms are recurrent in these types of environments, the effect of copper on their formation has not been studied so far. The results obtained indicate that high concentrations of copper reduce the capacity of A. ferrooxidans ATCC 23270 to form biofilms on sulfur. These findings may be relevant to consider for a bacterium widely used in copper bioleaching processes.

Abstract
Cation doping is one of the most dynamic strategies to enhance the electrochemical properties of cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, the maximum partial substitution capacity depends on the solubility of each metal ion, and so the formation of impurities is a very common consequence. Thus, the correlation between electrochemical performance and the doping effect is frequently unknown. In this study, the effect of the partial substitution of copper by manganese, iron or nickel in Li2CuO2 is evaluated, as well as the effect on the electrochemical performance of the modified Li2CuO2 samples as lithium ion battery cathode materials. XRD characterization confirmed single phase formation for all samples, and the incorporation of the transition metal in the Li2CuO2 structure was evaluated by XRD profile fitting, EPR and 7Li-NMR. The results showed modifications in intra- and inter-chain interactions, associated with the variations in the Cu-O-Cu bond angle and changes in magnetic order, due to the presence of the doping transition metal. Among all samples, only manganese partial substitution reveals a drastic improvement in the electrochemical stability during the charge/discharge processes even at potentials higher than 3.9 V. It was corroborated that the higher stability is attributed to (i) the increase in the superexchange interactions between the copper sites and manganese, directly modifying lithium diffusivity and electronic conductivity, both inferred from dynamic thermogravimetric analysis for CO2 sorption and conductivity tests, respectively and (ii) the lower propensity to enable O2 evolution during several charge cycles. These results are totally attributed to manganese cation partial substitution, which has a huge impact on the utilization of copper-based materials in real applications.

Abstract
AIM A new automatic method for detecting specific points and lines (straight and curves) in dental panoramic radiographies (orthopantomographies) is proposed, where the human knowledge is mapped to the automatic system. The goal is to compute relevant mandibular indices (Mandibular Cortical Width, Panoramic Mandibular Index, Mandibular Ratio, Mandibular Cortical Index) in order to detect the thinning and deterioration of the mandibular bone. Data can be stored for posterior massive analysis. METHODS Panoramic radiographies are intrinsically complex, including: artificial structures, unclear limits in bony structures, jawbones with irregular curvatures and intensity levels, irregular shapes and borders of the mental foramen, irregular teeth alignments or missing dental pieces. An intelligent sequence of linked imaging segmentation processes is proposed to cope with the above situations towards the design of the automatic segmentation, making the following contributions: (i) Fuzzy K-means classification for identifying artificial structures; (ii) adjust a tangent line to the lower border of the lower jawbone (lower cortex), based on texture analysis, grey scale dilation, binarization and labelling; (iii) identification of the mental foramen region and its centre, based on multi-thresholding, binarization, morphological operations and labelling; (iv) tracing a perpendicular line to the tangent passing through the centre of the mental foramen region and two parallel lines to the tangent, passing through borders on the mental foramen intersected by the perpendicular; (v) following the perpendicular line, a sweep is made moving up the tangent for detecting accumulation of binary points after applying adaptive filtering; (vi) detection of the lower mandible alveolar crest line based on the identification of inter-teeth gaps by saliency and interest points feature description. RESULTS The performance of the proposed approach was quantitatively compared against the criteria of expert dentists, verifying also its validity with statistical studies based on the analysis of deterioration of bone structures with different levels of osteoporosis. All indices are computed inside two regions of interest, which tolerate flexibility in sizes and locations, making this process robust enough. CONCLUSIONS The proposed approach provides an automatic procedure able to process with efficiency and reliability panoramic X-Ray images for early osteoporosis detection.

Abstract
The relationship between parenting styles and teen dating violence has become a relevant research topic in recent years, especially related to violence inflicted online. To more fully understand this relationship, the objective of the present study was to examine which parenting style (authoritarian, indulgent, authoritative, or neglectful) best protects against dating violence in adolescent relationships. A total of 1132 adolescents of both sexes participated in this study (46.4% boys and 53.6% girls), with ages between 14 and 18 years old (M = 15.6, SD = 1.3). A multivariate factorial design was applied (MANOVA, 4 × 2), using the parenting style, the parents' gender, and the adolescents' gender as independent variables, and the dating violence dimensions (online and offline) as dependent variables. As the results show, the lowest scores on all the dating violence dimensions examined were obtained by adolescents from indulgent families. In addition, three interaction effects were observed between the mother's parenting style and the adolescent's gender on online violence (e-violence and control), and the father's parenting style on offline violence (verbal-emotional). Thus, adolescents with authoritarian mothers obtained the highest scores on violence and control inflicted online, respectively, and adolescent girls with authoritarian fathers obtained the highest scores on verbal-emotional violence. These findings suggest that the indulgent style is the parenting style that protects against violence in teen dating relationships, and they also highlight the risks of the authoritarian style as a family child-rearing model.

Abstract
Job boredom is a common experience at work; however, it has been neglected in research and practice compared to other well-being states. Based on the person-job fit theory, this article aims to examine the association between employees’ perceived overqualification and job boredom, analyzing potential moderators. In Study 1, we analyzed job crafting as a moderator using a sample of 832 employees from different organizations in Puerto Rico. Results supported the relation between employees’ perceived overqualification and job boredom but did not support the moderating effect of job crafting since only two dimensions (i.e., increasing structural resources and increasing challenging demands) significantly moderate this association in an opposite direction. In Study 2, we analyzed the moderating role of meaningful work with a sample of 394 employees. Results supported the moderating effect of meaningful work on the relation between employees’ perceived overqualification and job boredom. While job crafting dimensions of increasing structural resources and increasing challenging demands strengthen or have little effect on reducing the association between employees’ perceived overqualification and job boredom, meaningful work buffers this effect. These findings suggest that organizations must provide opportunities for employees to find meaning in their jobs. Additional research is needed to understand the role of job crafting to reduce job boredom.

Abstract
Young people find it difficult to access to the labor market, particularly in countries like Spain with a dramatically high rate of unemployment. A further problem is that this labor market is not gender-neutral. This has been demonstrated repeatedly in the literature, with women typically being at a disadvantage. This highlights the need to study issues related to employability from a gender perspective, beyond including sex as a mere control variable. This analysis is relevant given the gender biases in organizations and in society in general that hinder the advancement of gender equality in organizations. Accordingly, our aim is to study both sex (male vs. female) and four profiles of gender identity based on dimensions of masculinity and femininity (i.e., feminine, masculine, undifferentiated, and androgynous) in relation to perceived employability in an exploratory way in two samples of employed (N = 181) and unemployed (N = 246) Spanish youngsters (i.e., below 30). The results show different patterns for employed and unemployed youngsters regarding sex, gender identity and their interaction in relation to perceptions of being employable. Concerning sex, women seem more confident about their employment chances when unemployed. In contrast, men feel more confident about their employment chances within their organization than women when employed. Concerning gender identity, the androgynous gender profile in the employed sample (in both men and women) scored highest on perceived employability. Results of the sex–gender identity interaction show that being feminine associates with the highest level of perceived employability for an unemployed man and the lowest for an unemployed woman. Moreover, both unemployed men and women androgynous score the highest in perceiving employability (except feminine men). Our findings highlight that sex and gender identity do play a role in shaping employability perceptions of young men and women in different labor contexts (employment and unemployment). This reinforces the need of changes against discrimination at work and in job search from a feminist approach to arrive at a more equal society.

Abstract
Soon after kidney transplant (KT), a decrease in parathormone and bone mineral density (BMD) occur, but little is known on the impact of KT on novel bone quality parameters including trabecular bone score (TBS) and bone material strength index (BMSi). We aimed to study BMD, TBS and BMSi in the first year after KT, in patients not treated with any bone therapy. A cohort including 36 patients underwent KT on a low-glucocorticoid-dose protocol (5 mg daily-prednisone from post-operative-day 42 onwards) and was observed for 12 months prospectively. At 3 months, phosphorus and parathormone decreased, while calcium increased. We also observed at 3 months a transient mild 2.9% bone loss at femoral neck (BMD change 0.752 ± 0.15 vs 0.730 ± 0.15; p = 0.004), but no change at either spine or total hip. Both TBS and BMSi remained stable. At 12 months, lumbar (but not total hip or femoral neck) BMD slightly decreased by 2.1% vs baseline (0.950 ± 0.15 vs 0.930 ± 0.5; p = 0.046), while TBS and BMSi remained unmodified. In KT patients on low-dose glucocorticoids and no bone therapy, there were small BMD decreases at femoral neck (at 3 months) and lumbar spine (at 12 months), but no change in either TBS or BMSi. Low-dose post-KT glucocorticoid treatment shows limited impact on bone, supporting steroid-restrictive protocols.

Abstract
Pteridines are aromatic compounds formed by fused pyrazine and pyrimidine rings. Many living organisms synthesize pteridines, where they act as pigments, enzymatic cofactors, or immune system activation molecules. This variety of biological functions has motivated the synthesis of a huge number of pteridine derivatives with the aim of studying their therapeutic potential. This review gathers the state-of-the-art of pteridine derivatives, describing their biological activities and molecular targets. The antitumor activity of pteridine-based compounds is one of the most studied and advanced therapeutic potentials, for which several molecular targets have been identified. Nevertheless, pteridines are also considered as very promising therapeutics for the treatment of chronic inflammation-related diseases. On the other hand, many pteridine derivatives have been tested for antimicrobial activities but, although some of them resulted to be active in preliminary assays, a deeper research is needed in this area. Moreover, pteridines may be of use in the treatment of many other diseases, such as diabetes, osteoporosis, ischemia, or neurodegeneration, among others. Thus, the diversity of the biological activities shown by these compounds highlights the promising therapeutic use of pteridine derivatives. Indeed, methotrexate, pralatrexate, and triamterene are Food and Drug Administration approved pteridines, while many others are currently under study in clinical trials.

Abstract
Introducción. El principal objetivo de este estudio es comprobar si los diferentes perfiles laborales de los profesores universitarios (docente, investigador y gestor) se relacionan con la experiencia de bienestar en el trabajo (burnout, engagement y satisfacción intrínseca). Método. Las hipótesis se pusieron a prueba mediante análisis cluster, ANOVA y análisis factorial confirmatorio en una muestra de 170 profesores universitarios españoles. Resultados. Los resultados muestran la existencia de cuatro patrones laborales en los profesores universitarios que tienen en cuenta el triple perfil laboral (docencia, investigación, gestión y docencia e investigación). Por otra parte, los análisis de varianza indican que hay diferencias significativas en la absorción y en la satisfacción intrínseca, dependiendo del patrón laboral, de forma que aquellos profesores que pertenecen al patrón laboral de investigación, tienen los valores más altos en engagement y motivación intrínseca mientras que aquellos profesores que pertenecen al patrón laboral de gestión, tienen los valores más altos de burnout. Finalmente, el análisis factorial confirmatorio muestra que burnout consta de cuatro dimensiones (agotamiento, despersonalización, cinismo y falta de eficacia profesional). Discusión y Conclusión. Aquellos profesores universitarios en cuyo patrón laboral predomina la investigación son los que gozan de mejor bienestar, mientras que los que peor bienestar sufren son aquellos profesores universitarios en cuyo patrón laboral predomina la gestión.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Bone health is assessed by bone mineral density (BMD). Other techniques such as trabecular bone score and microindentation could improve the risk of fracture's estimation. Our chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients presented worse bone health (density, microarchitecture, mechanical properties) than controls. More than BMD should be done to evaluate patients at risk of fracture. INTRODUCTION BMD measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is used to assess bone health in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Recently, trabecular bone score (TBS) and microindentation that can measure microarchitectural and mechanical properties of bone have demonstrated better correlation with fractures than DXA in different populations. We aimed to characterize bone health (BMD, TBS, and strength) and calcium/phosphate metabolism in a cohort of 53 ESRD patients undergoing kidney transplantation (KT) and 94 controls with normal renal function. METHODS Laboratory workout, lumbar spine/hip BMD measurements (using DXA), lumbar spine TBS, and bone strength were carried out. The latter was assessed with an impact microindentation device, standardized as percentage of a reference value, and expressed as bone material strength index (BMSi) units. Multivariable linear regression was used to study differences between cases and controls adjusted by age, gender, and body mass index. RESULTS Among cases, serum calcium was 9.6 ± 0.7 mg/dl, phosphorus 4.4 ± 1.2 mg/dl, and intact parathyroid hormone 214 pg/ml [102-390]. Fourteen patients (26.4%) had prevalent asymptomatic fractures in spinal X-ray. BMD was significantly lower among ESRD patients compared to controls: lumbar 0.966 ± 0.15 vs 0.982 ± 0.15 (adjusted p = 0.037), total hip 0.852 ± 0.15 vs 0.902 ± 0.13 (adjusted p < 0.001), and femoral neck 0.733 ± 0.15 vs 0.775 ± 0.12 (adjusted p < 0.001), as were TBS (1.20 [1.11-1.30] vs 1.31 [1.19-1.43] (adjusted p < 0.001)) and BMSi (79 [71.8-84.2] vs 82. [77.5-88.9] (adjusted p = 0.005)). CONCLUSIONS ESRD patients undergoing transplant surgery have damaged bone health parameters (density, microarchitecture, and mechanical properties) despite acceptably controlled hyperparathyroidism. Detecting these abnormalities may assist in identifying patients at high risk of post-transplantation fractures.

Abstract
Fluorescence excitation emission matrix (FEEM) spectroscopy was used to evaluate its applicability as a tool to track dissolved organic matter (DOM) in a drinking water treatment plant (DWTP) that incorporates a conventional line (consisting in ozonation and GAC filtration) and a membrane-based line (consisting in ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and mineralization) working in parallel. Seven sampling points within the different process stages were characterized monthly during 2014. A global Parallel Factor Analysis (PARAFAC) was used to pull out underlying organic fractions from the fluorescence spectra. Accordingly a five components model was selected to describe the system and the pros and cons of the model were discussed by analysis of the residuals. Among the five fluorescent components, those associated to humic-like matter (C1, C3 and C4) showed a similar season variability in the river water feeding the DWTP (which resembled that of UV254 and TOC), whereas the two components associated to protein-like matter (C2 and C5) exhibited a different behavior. The maximum fluorescence intensity values (Fmax) were used to quantify DOM removals across the plant. Compared to the conventional line, water from the UF/RO membrane-based line showed between 6 and 14 times lower fluorescence intensity signal for the humic-like components and between 1 and 3 for the protein-like components as compared to the conventional line. The differences in DOM composition due to seasonal variations and along the treatment trains point out the suitability of using fluorescence measurements over other parameters such as UV254 as a monitoring tool to help optimize operation conditions of each treatment stage and improve produced water quality in a DWTP.

STUDY QUESTION How do semen parameters of HIV-infected men under antiretroviral treatment compare with WHO parameters of normal semen, and what factors are associated with any differences? SUMMARY ANSWER Semen quality in most HIV-infected patients under antiretroviral treatment exceeds WHO limits, but the number falling below them is higher than would be expected in a healthy population. Exposure to efavirenz has a significant association with dysmotility. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Dysmotility is the most frequently described sperm alteration related to HIV infection, and it has recently been linked to treatment with non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, particularly to efavirenz. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION Prospective cohort study. Between March 2002 and December 2013, 139 HIV-infected men undergoing antiretroviral therapy were enrolled. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Participants were male members of serodiscordant couples who attended a clinic for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Madrid and requested reproductive counselling. Sociodemographic, behavioural and clinical data were collected. CD4+ lymphocyte count, HIV viral load, serology/viral load of hepatitis B and C viruses, syphilis serology and other STIs diagnosis were performed. Semen parameters were assessed through standard sperm analysis and were compared with WHO 2010 reference values. Factors associated with impaired semen parameters were evaluated by bivariate and multivariate analysis. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE The median values of all assessed semen parameters were within a normal range, but in up to 19% of HIV-positive males, at least one parameter of semen quality was below the normal range. A significant association between treatment with efavirenz and the presence of dysmotility was detected in the multivariate analysis. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Our results cannot demonstrate a causal relationship between exposure to efavirenz and impaired motility. We do not have a real comparison group as the WHO cohort is international and may not reflect local variations in semen characteristics. Subjects who requested reproductive counselling might not be representative of HIV-positive men in general. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Since efavirenz is still widely used in current therapeutic regimens may be affecting fertility in seropositive men who desire procreation. Abstract
Altered interplay between gut mucosa and microbiota during treated HIV infection may possibly contribute to increased bacterial translocation and chronic immune activation, both of which are predictors of morbidity and mortality. Although a dysbiotic gut microbiota has recently been reported in HIV+ individuals, the metagenome gene pool associated with HIV infection remains unknown. The aim of this study is to characterize the functional gene content of gut microbiota in HIV+ patients and to define the metabolic pathways of this bacterial community, which is potentially associated with immune dysfunction. We determined systemic markers of innate and adaptive immunity in a cohort of HIV-infected individuals on successful antiretroviral therapy without comorbidities and in healthy non-HIV-infected subjects. Metagenome sequencing revealed an altered functional profile, with enrichment of the genes involved in various pathogenic processes, lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis, bacterial translocation, and other inflammatory pathways. In contrast, we observed depletion of genes involved in amino acid metabolism and energy processes. Bayesian networks showed significant interactions between the bacterial community, their altered metabolic pathways, and systemic markers of immune dysfunction. This study reveals altered metabolic activity of microbiota and provides novel insight into the potential host-microbiota interactions driving the sustained inflammatory state in successfully treated HIV-infected patients.

Abstract
Twenty polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed for the Neotropical fish Leporinus obtusidens using a next generation sequencing approach and tested in two other characifomes species, Schizodon platae and Prochilodus lineatus. Microsatellite loci alleles in L. obtusidens ranged between 2 and 20 alleles per locus (mean = 5·7), with expected heterozygosity values ranging from 0·097 to 0·956 (mean = 0·578) and observed heterozygosity values ranging from 0·000 to 0·800 (mean = 0·400) in a sample of 20 specimens from the lower Paraná River (Argentina). Most of these markers will be a valuable tool for captive breeding and stocking programmes, as well as for analyses of population connectivity and genetic structure in this broadly distributed Neotropical migratory fish.

Abstract
Biofilm formation and the production of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) by meso- and thermoacidophilic metal-oxidizing archaea on relevant substrates have been studied to a limited extent. In order to investigate glycoconjugates, a major part of the EPS, during biofilm formation/bioleaching by archaea on pyrite, a screening with 75 commercially available lectins by fluorescence lectin-binding analysis (FLBA) has been performed. Three representative archaeal species, Ferroplasma acidiphilum DSM 28986, Sulfolobus metallicus DSM 6482T and a novel isolate Acidianus sp. DSM 29099 were used. In addition, Acidianus sp. DSM 29099 biofilms on elemental sulfur were studied. The results of FLBA indicate (i) 22 lectins bound to archaeal biofilms on pyrite and 21 lectins were binding to Acidianus sp. DSM 29099 biofilms on elemental sulfur; (ii) major binding patterns, e.g. tightly bound EPS and loosely bound EPS, were detected on both substrates; (iii) the three archaeal species produced various EPS glycoconjugates on pyrite surfaces. Additionally, the substratum induced different EPS glycoconjugates and biofilm structures of cells of Acidianus sp. DSM 29099. Our data provide new insights into interactions between acidophilic archaea on relevant surfaces and also indicate that FLBA is a valuable tool for in situ investigations on archaeal biofilms.

Abstract
During 2000 to 2009, data on people undergoing HIV testing and on those newly diagnosed with HIV were collected in a network of 20 Spanish clinics specialising in sexually transmitted infections and/or HIV testing and counselling. The number of tests performed, overall and disaggregated by different variables, was obtained. HIV prevalence among first-time testers and HIV incidence among repeat testers were calculated. To evaluate trends, joinpoint regression models were fitted. In total, 236,939 HIV tests were performed for 165,745 individuals. Overall HIV prevalence among persons seeking HIV testing was 2.5% (95% CI: 2.4 to 2.6). Prevalence was highest in male sex workers who had sex with other men (19.0% (95% CI: 16.7 to 21.4)) and was lowest in female sex workers (0.8% (95% CI: 0.7 to 0.9)). Significant trends in prevalence were observed in men who have sex with men (MSM) (increasing) and heterosexual individuals (decreasing). The incidence analysis included 30,679 persons, 64,104 person-years (py) of follow-up and 642 seroconversions. The overall incidence rate (IR) was 1.0/100 py (95% CI: 0.9/100 to 1.1/100). Incidence was significantly higher in men and transgender females than in women (1.8/100 py (95% CI: 1.6 to 1.9), 1.2/100 py (95% CI: 0.5 to 2.8) and 0.1/100 py (95% CI: 0.09 to 0.2) respectively) and increased with age until 35–39 years. IRs in MSM and people who inject drugs were significantly greater than in heterosexual individuals (2.5/100 py (95% CI: 2.3 to 2.7), 1.6/100 py (95% CI: 1.1 to 2.2) and 0.1/100 py (95% CI: 0.09 to 0.2) respectively), and an upward trend was observed in MSM. Our results call for HIV prevention to be reinforced in MSM and transgender women in Spain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unlike conventional hemodialysis treatments, which rely almost solely on diffusion-related mechanisms for solute removal, hemodiafiltration (HDF) allows more efficient removal of higher molecular weight toxins due to convective transport mechanisms. To facilitate the removal of these toxins in HDF treatment modalities, dialyzers with highly efficient high-flux membranes are necessary. This study assessed the large uremic toxin removal ability of a high-flux dialyzer (FX CorDiax 60) specifically designed to facilitate convective therapies compared with a standard high-flux dialyzer (FX 60). METHODS In an open, randomized, cross-over, single-center, controlled, prospective clinical study, 30 adult chronic hemodialysis patients were treated by post-dilution online HDF with the FX 60 or the FX CorDiax 60 dialyzer. All other dialysis parameters were kept constant in both study arms. The reduction rate (RR) of blood urea nitrogen, phosphate, β2-microglobulin (β2-m), myoglobin, prolactin, α1-microglobulin, α1-acid glycoprotein, albumin and total protein as well as the elimination into dialysate was intraindividually compared for the two dialyzer types. RESULTS For FX CorDiax 60 versus FX 60, the RR was significantly higher for blood urea nitrogen (86.23 ± 4.14 vs. 84.89 ± 4.59%, p = 0.015), β2-m (84.67 ± 3.79 vs. 81.30 ± 4.82%, p < 0.0001), myoglobin (75.23 ± 10.48 vs. 58.60 ± 12.1%, p < 0.0001), prolactin (72.96 ± 9.68 vs. 56.91 ± 13.01%, p < 0.0001) and α1-microglobulin (20.89 ± 18.27 vs. 13.60 ± 12.50%, p = 0.016). There were no significant differences in the RR for phosphate, α1-acid glycoprotein, albumin and total protein. Mass removal was significantly higher with the FX CorDiax 60 than with the FX 60 for β2-m (0.26 ± 0.09 vs. 0.24 ± 0.09 g, p = 0.0006), myoglobin (1.83 ± 0.89 vs. 1.51 ± 0.76 mg, p = 0.0017), prolactin (0.17 ± 0.13 vs. 0.14 ± 0.08 mg, p = 0.02) and albumin (4.25 ± 3.49 vs. 3.01 ± 2.37 g, p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that treating patients with an FX CorDiax 60 instead of an FX 60 dialyzer in post-dilution HDF mode significantly increases the elimination of middle molecules.

Abstract
Traditionally, research focussing on psychosocial factors in the construction industry has focused mainly on the negative aspects of health and on results such as occupational accidents. This study, however, focuses on the specific relationships among the different positive psychosocial factors shared by construction workers that could be responsible for occupational well-being and outcomes such as performance. The main objective of this study was to test whether personal resources predict self-rated job performance through job resources and work engagement. Following the predictions of Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory and the motivational process of the Job Demands-Resources Model, we expect that the relationship between personal resources and performance will be fully mediated by job resources and work engagement. The sample consists of 228 construction workers. Structural equation modelling supports the research model. Personal resources (i.e. self-efficacy, mental and emotional competences) play a predicting role in the perception of job resources (i.e. job control and supervisor social support), which in turn leads to work engagement and self-rated performance. This study emphasises the crucial role that personal resources play in determining how people perceive job resources by determining the levels of work engagement and, hence, their self-rated job performance. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract
With the aim of improving the antioxidant activity of polyphenols from blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) on skin targets after topical application, ethanolic extracts from three blueberry varieties (named Millenia, O'Neal, and Blue Crisp) were loaded into ultradeformable liposomes. These nanocarriers are known to be capable of penetrating through the stratum corneum reaching its deeper layers and the viable epidermis. On the other hand, blueberries contain large amounts of polyphenols, whose antioxidant properties as tissue protectors against processes mediated by reactive oxygen species have been extensively proved. Blueberries are usually consumed as edible products, but their antioxidant compounds are poorly absorbed. The antioxidant properties of the extracts were screened before and after being loaded into ultradeformable liposomes made of soy phosphatidylcholine and sodium cholate, of nearly 100 nm in size at 0.223 extract/lipid w/w. The ethanolic extract-loaded ultradeformable liposomes (nanoberries) from Millenia variety retained an 85% of the antioxidant capacity of the free extract and showed low cytotoxicity on HaCaT cells (less than 20%) at active concentration against free radicals.

Abstract
The lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) outbreak described in the Netherlands in 2003, increased the interest in the genotyping of Chlamydia trachomatis. Although international surveillance programmes were implemented, these studies slowly decreased in the following years. Now data have revealed a new accumulation of LGV cases in those European countries with extended surveillance programmes. Between March 2009 and November 2011, a study was carried out to detect LGV cases in Madrid. The study was based on screening of C. trachomatis using commercial kits, followed by real-time pmpH-PCR discriminating LGV strains, and finally ompA gene was sequenced for phylogenetic reconstruction. Ninety-four LGV infections were identified. The number of cases increased from 10 to 30 and then to 54 during 2009-2011. Incidence of LGV was strongly associated with men who have sex with men; but in 2011, LGV cases were described in women and heterosexual men. Sixty-nine patients were also human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive, with detectable viral loads at the moment of LGV diagnosis, suggesting a high-risk of co-transmission. In fact, in four patients the diagnosis of HIV was simultaneous with LGV infection. The conventional treatment with doxycycline was prescribed in 75 patients, although in three patients the treatment failed. The sequencing of the ompA gene permitted identification of two independent transmission nodes. One constituted by 25 sequences identical to the L2b variant, and a second node including 37 sequences identical to L2. This epidemiological situation characterized by the co-circulation of two LGV variants has not been previously described, reinforcing the need for screening and genotyping of LGV strains.

Abstract
Objetivos: Caracterizar la actividad académica, el cumplimiento de las obligaciones, programa, metodología, materiales, actitud del docente, evaluación, prácticas, satisfacción. Establecer las coincidencias y divergencias de la actividad educativa en Enfermería. Y comprometer a los involucrados a participar en el diseño de propuestas. Diseño: Método descriptivo, transversal, cuantitativo, complementado con técnicas cualitativas. Institución: Departamento Académico Profesional de Enfermería, Facultad de Medicina, UNMSM. Participantes: Estudiantes y docentes. Intervenciones: Se efectuó el estudio en 135 estudiantes y 27 docentes (30% del universo de docentes y estudiantes). La escala fue de 1 a 5, siendo 1 definitivamente negativa y 5 definitivamente positiva. Principales medidas de resultados: Calidad de la actividad académica. Resultados: En estudiantes fue 3,57 y en docentes 3,70, indicando que estamos cercanos al punto medio y lejos de calidad ‘definitivamente positiva’. El menor valor fue la dimensión ‘prácticas’, con un valor de 2,74, con ‘opinión negativa’. El valor más alto estuvo en ‘Programa de Enseñanza’, con 3,91, cerca de ‘opinión positiva’. Conclusiones: Hubo dos categorías de resultados, actitud docente y aptitud docente, señalando que los docentes se mantienen ‘sin interés’, ‘poco comprometidos’ con su labor docente. Falta mejorar la planificación de clases, metodología, supervisión y evaluación; un mejor uso del tiempo, para no afectar la ‘práctica clínica o comunitaria’.
