Combating anoikis resistance: bioactive compounds transforming prostate cancer therapy. Anticancer Drugs 2024:00001813-990000000-00286. Abstract
The study aims to discuss the challenges associated with treating prostate cancer (PCa), which is known for its complexity and drug resistance. It attempts to find differentially expressed genes (DEGs), such as those linked to anoikis resistance and circulating tumor cells, in PCa samples. This study involves analyzing the functional roles of these DEGs using gene enrichment analysis, and then screening of 102 bioactive compounds to identify a combination that can control the expression of the identified DEGs. In this study, 53 DEGs were identified from PCa samples including anoikis-resistant PCa cells and circulating tumor cells in PCa. Gene enrichment analysis with regards to functional enrichment of DEGs was performed. An inclusive screening process was carried out among 102 bioactive compounds to identify a combination capable of affecting and regulating the expression of selected DEGs. Eventually, gastrodin, nitidine chloride, chenodeoxycholic acid, and bilobalide were selected, as their combination demonstrated ability to modulate expression of 50 out of the 53 genes targeted. The subsequent analysis focused on investigating the biological pathways and processes influenced by this combination. The findings revealed a multifaceted and multidimensional approach to tumor regression. The combination of bioactive compounds exhibited effects on various genes including those related to production of inflammatory cytokines, cell proliferation, autophagy, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and metastasis. The current study has made a valuable contribution to the development of a combination of bioactive natural compounds that can significantly impede the development of treatment resistance in prostate tumor while countering the tumors' evasion of the immune system. The implications of this study are highly significant as it suggests the creation of an enhanced immunotherapeutic, natural therapeutic concoction with combinatorial potential.

Abstract
Autophagy, a highly regulated cellular process, assumes a dual role in the context of cancer. On the one hand, it functions as a crucial homeostatic pathway, responsible for degrading malfunctioning molecules and organelles, thereby maintaining cellular health. On the other hand, its involvement in cancer development and regression is multifaceted, contingent upon a myriad of factors. This review meticulously examines the intricacies of autophagy, from its molecular machinery orchestrated by Autophagy-Related Genes (ATG) initially discovered in yeast to the various modes of autophagy operative within cells. Beyond its foundational role in cellular maintenance, autophagy reveals context-specific functions in processes like angiogenesis and inflammation. Our analysis delves into how autophagy-related factors directly impact inflammation, underscoring their profound implications for cancer dynamics. Additionally, we extend our inquiry to explore autophagy's associations with cardiovascular conditions, neurodegenerative disorders, and autoimmune diseases, illuminating the broader medical relevance of this process. Furthermore, this review elucidates how autophagy contributes to sustaining hallmark cancer features, including stem cell maintenance, proliferation, angiogenesis, metastasis, and metabolic reprogramming. Autophagy emerges as a pivotal process that necessitates careful consideration in cancer treatment strategies. To this end, we investigate innovative approaches, ranging from enzyme-based therapies to MTOR inhibitors, lysosomal blockers, and nanoparticle-enabled interventions, all aimed at optimizing cancer treatment outcomes by targeting autophagy pathways. In summary, this comprehensive review provides a nuanced perspective on the intricate and context-dependent role of autophagy in cancer biology. Our exploration not only deepens our understanding of this fundamental process but also highlights its potential as a therapeutic target. By unraveling the complex interplay between autophagy and cancer, we pave the way for more precise and effective cancer treatments, promising better outcomes for patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study aimed to explore the crucial genes involved in cancer-related biological processes, including EMT, autophagy, apoptosis, anoikis, and metastasis. It also sought to identify common genes among the pathways linked to these biological processes, determine the level of Bcl-2 expression in various types of cancers, and find a potent inhibitor of Bcl-2 among natural compounds. METHODS Common genes involved in the pathways related to EMT, autophagy, apoptosis, anoikis, and metastasis were explored, and the level of the most frequently overexpressed gene that was Bcl-2, in various types of cancers was analyzed by gene expression analysis. A set of 102 natural compounds was sorted according to their docking scores using molecular docking and filtering. The top-ranked molecule was chosen for additional molecular dynamics (MD) simulation for 100 ns. Differential gene expression analysis was performed for Dioscin using GEO2R. RESULTS The study identified four common genes, Bcl-2, Bax, BIRC3, and CHUK, among the pathways linked to EMT, autophagy, apoptosis, anoikis, and metastasis. Bcl-2 was highly overexpressed in many cancers, including Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Diffuse large B cell lymphoma, and Thymoma. The Dioscin structure in the Bcl-2 binding site received the highest docking score and the most relevant interactions. Dioscin's determined binding free energy by MM/GBSA was -52.21 kcal/mol, while the same calculated by MM/PBSA was -9.18 kcal/mol. A p-value of less than 0.05 was used to determine the statistical significance of the analysis performed using GEO2R. It was observed that Dioscin downregulates Bcl-2, BIRC3, and CHUK and upregulates the pro-apoptotic protein Bax. CONCLUSION The study concluded that Dioscin has the potential to act as a protein inhibitor, with a noteworthy value of binding free energy and relevant interactions with the Bcl-2 binding site. Dioscin might be a good alternative for targeting multiple cancer pathways through a single target.

Abstract
Through improving the immune system's ability to recognize and combat tumor cells as well as its receptivity to changes in the tumor microenvironment, immunotherapy has emerged as a highly successful addition to the treatment of cancer. However, tumor heterogeneity poses a significant challenge in cancer therapy as it can undermine the anti-tumor immune response through the manipulation of the extracellular matrix. To address these challenges and improve targeted therapies and combination treatments, the food and drug administration has approved several immunomodulatory antibodies to suppress immunological checkpoints. Combinatorial therapies necessitate the identification of multiple targets that regulate the intricate communication between immune cells, cytokines, chemokines, and cellular responses within the tumor microenvironment. The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the ongoing clinical trials involving immunomodulatory antibodies in various cancer types. It explores the potential of these antibodies to modulate the immune system and enhance anti-tumor responses. Additionally, it discusses the perspectives and prospects of immunomodulatory therapeutics in cancer treatment. Although immunotherapy shows great promise in cancer treatment, it is not exempt from side effects that can arise due to hyperactivity of the immune system. Therefore, understanding the intricate balance between immune activation and regulation is crucial for minimizing these adverse effects and optimizing treatment outcomes. This study aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge surrounding immunomodulatory antibodies and their potential as effective therapeutic options in cancer treatment, ultimately paving the way for improved patient outcomes and deepening our perception of the intricate interactivity between the immune system and tumors.

Abstract
Within the tumor microenvironment, the fight between the immune system and cancer influences tumor transformation. Metastasis formation is an important stage in the progression of cancer. This process is aided by cellular detachment and resistance to anoikis, which are achieved by altering intercellular signaling. Autophagy, specifically pro-survival autophagy, aids cancer cells in developing treatment resistance. Numerous studies have shown that autophagy promotes tumor growth and resistance to anoikis. To regulate protective autophagy, cancer-related genes phosphorylate both pro- and anti-apoptotic proteins. Apoptosis, a type of controlled cell death, eliminates damaged or unwanted cells. Anoikis is a type of programmed cell death in which cells lose contact with the extracellular matrix. The dysregulation of these cellular pathways promotes tumor growth and spread. Apoptosis, anoikis, and autophagy interact meticulously and differently depending on the cellular circumstances. For instance, autophagy can protect cancer cells from apoptosis by removing cellular components that are damaged and might otherwise trigger apoptotic pathways. Similarly, anoikis dysregulation can trigger autophagy by causing cellular harm and metabolic stress. In order to prevent or treat metastatic disease, specifically, targeting these cellular mechanisms may present a promising prospect for cancer therapy. This review discourses the state of our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying tumor transformation and the establishment of metastatic tumors. To enhance the prognosis for cancer, we highlight and discuss potential therapeutic approaches that target these processes and genes involved in them.

Abstract
Rapid globalization and industrialization have led to widespread pollution and energy crises, necessitating the development of innovative solutions. Metal-free g-C3N4-based polymeric materials have unique properties but face limitations such as low surface area and inefficient light absorption. Doping, especially sulfur doping, is a prevalent technique to enhance their optical and electronic properties. This comprehensive review focuses on the synthesis techniques employed for sulfur doping of g-C3N4 (S-CN), highlighting the complexities associated with S-doping and the advantages of co-doping. Additionally, the review encompasses the diverse applications of S-CN in catalysis, photocatalysis, sonocatalysis, pollutant remediation, and electrochemical sensing. By incorporating sulfur into the g-C3N4 structure, various desirable properties can be achieved, including improved light absorption efficiency and enhanced charge carrier separation and migration. These advancements have broadened the application potential of S-CN in a range of important fields. S-CN has shown promise as a catalyst, facilitating various chemical reactions, as well as a photocatalyst, harnessing solar energy for environmental remediation and energy conversion processes. Moreover, S-CN exhibits potential in sonocatalysis for ultrasound-mediated reactions, pollutant remediation, and electrochemical sensing applications.

Abstract
The world has witnessed the cruelty of COVID-19 disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The association of COVID-19 with other secondary and bacterial co-infections has tremendously contributed to lung infections. An increased probability of having a secondary lung infection was observed among the post-COVID patients. The treatment of antibiotics has ameliorated the mortality rate. However, the stewardship of antibiotic treatment was linked to increased organ failure. Therefore, the paper discusses the interactions between the virus and host through the ACE2 receptors that contribute to COVID-19 development. Furthermore, the paper provides an invaluable compendium history of SARS-CoV-2 genomic composition. It revolves around most classes of antibiotics used to treat COVID-19 disease and post-COVID lung infections with the complete mechanism. This binds with the exertion of the antibiotics for bacterial infection associated with COVID-19 patients and how beneficial and effective responses have been recorded for the treatment. The application of nanotechnology and possible approaches of nanomedicines is also discussed to its potential usage.

Abstract
Cancer is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, and various anticancer medications have been developed that target different biological pathways involved in cancer growth and progression. Topoisomerase 1 (Top1) is an essential enzyme involved in unwinding supercoiled DNA, and it serves as a key target for several anti-cancer drugs. Irinotecan (FDA approved drug), a semi-synthetic camptothecin derivative, is an effective Top1 toxin that eliminates human cancer cells. Cancer patients suffer from the cholinergic syndrome caused by irinotecan and other Top1 inhibitors. Irinotecan-treated patients have developed cholinergic syndrome due to acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme inhibition. It appears that irinotecan or its metabolites directly interact with AChE and inhibit its role of converting acetylcholine to choline, leading to an accumulation of acetylcholine and subsequent symptoms of the cholinergic syndrome. The phytochemicals present in Phyllanthus emblica, commonly referred to as amla, have been studied to determine their therapeutic effects. As an alternative treatment for cancer, this study explores the potential of phytochemicals found in amla to target and inhibit the Top1 protein. Additionally, the study aims to identify a non-inhibitor for AChE. Molecular docking studies assessed phytochemical binding affinities to Top1 and AChE enzymes, and ADME analyses were performed to assess their drug-likeness properties. Subsequently, molecular dynamic simulation was employed to assess the stability of these compounds. The results suggest that new anticancer medications that do not inhibit AChE or fresh Top1 inhibitors that use the camptothecin scaffold may alleviate some of the irinotecan's side effects.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract
BACKGROUND Neonatal hypoglycemia is one of the most common causes of admission to neonatal intensive care unit requiring intravenous dextrose therapy. Administration of IV dextrose and transfer to the NICU may interfere with parent-infant bonding, breastfeeding, and has financial implications. OBJECTIVE Retrospective study to evaluate the effect of dextrose gel supplementation for asymptomatic hypoglycemia in reducing NICU admissions and intravenous dextrose therapy. METHOD A retrospective study conducted for eight months each before and after introduction of dextrose gel in the management of asymptomatic neonatal hypoglycemia. Asymptomatic hypoglycemic infants were given only feeds in pre dextrose gel period and dextrose gel along with feeds in the dextrose gel period. Rates of admission to NICU and the need of IV dextrose therapy were evaluated. RESULTS High risk characteristics (Prematurity, Large for Gestational Age, small for Gestational Age, Infants of diabetic mother etc.) were equally distributed among both the cohorts. Primary outcome results showed significant reduction in NICU admissions from 396/1801(22%) to 329/1783 (18.5%) (odds ratio, 95% CI 1.24(1.05-1.46, p 0.008). There was significant reduction in IV dextrose therapy requirement from 277/1405 (15.4%) to 182/1454 (10.2%) (odds ratio, 95% CI 1.59(1.31- 1.95, p < 0.001).Babies discharged on predominant breast feeding showed significant improvement from 237/396(59.8%) in the pre dextrose gel period to 240/329 (72.9%) (odds ratio, 95% CI 0.82(0.73-0.90, p < 0.001) in dextrose gel period. CONCLUSIONS Dextrose gel supplementation with feeds reduced NICU admissions, the need for parenteral dextrose therapy, avoided maternal separation and promoted breastfeeding.

Abstract
An Experiment has been performed to find out effect of coiled spring turbulators on the heat transfer and pressure drop in a triple tube heat exchanger using water and CuO/water (0.8%vol/vol) as working media. Two spring turbulators having pitch 5 mm and 10 mm with a common wire diameter
of 1 mm are being used. The experiment was carried out under turbulent flow at different Reynolds numbers varying between 4000 to 16,000. In this experiment, the variation in the rate of heat transfer and friction factor have been analyzed for parallel and counter flow arrangements. The combination
of the lower-pitched insert with CuO attained the maximum heat transfer increment in the counter flow pattern. For counter flow arrangement, augmentation in Nusselt number for a triple tube with lower spring pitch with CuO nanofluid is 63.33%, which is higher in comparison to the plain triple
tube with water as working fluid. The maximum thermal performance value is observed for plain tube with CuO nanofluid having the value 1.04 at Reynolds number of 4000.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The exploitation, poor conditions, and precarity in the bidi (hand-rolled leaf cigarette) industry in India make it ripe for the application of the FCTC's Article 17, "Provision of support for economically viable alternative activities". "Bottom-up", participatory approaches give scope to explore bidi rollers' own circumstances, experiences, and aspirations. METHODS A team of six community health volunteers using a participatory research orientation developed a questionnaire-based semi-structured interview tool. Forty-six bidi rolling women were interviewed by pairs of volunteers in two northern Tamil Nadu cities. Two follow-up focus groups were also held. A panel of 11 bidi rollers attended a workshop at which the findings from the interviews and focus groups were presented, further significant points were made and possible alternatives to bidi rolling were discussed. RESULTS Bidi workers are aware of the adverse impact of their occupation on them and their families, as well as the major risks posed by the product itself for the health of consumers. However, they need alternative livelihoods that offer equivalent remuneration, convenience, and (in some cases) dignity. Alternative livelihoods, and campaigns for better rights for bidi workers while they remain in the industry, serve to undercut industry arguments against tobacco control. Responses need to be diverse and specific to local situations, i.e. "bottom-up" as much as "top-down", which can make the issue of scaling up problematic. CONCLUSION Participatory approaches involving bidi workers themselves in discussions about their circumstances and aspirations have opened up new possibilities for alternative livelihoods to tobacco. IMPLICATIONS Progress with the FCTC's Article 17 has generally been slow and has focussed on tobacco cultivation rather than later stages in the production process. The bidi industry in India is ripe for the application of an alternative livelihoods approach. This study is one of the first to use participatory methods to investigate the circumstances, experiences, and aspirations of bidi workers themselves.

Abstract
The advancements in the areas of wearable devices and flexible electronic skin have led to the synthesis of scalable, ultrasensitive sensors to detect and differentiate multimodal stimuli and dynamic human movements. Herein, we reveal a novel architecture of an epidermal sensor fabricated by sandwiching the buckypaper between the layers of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). This mechanically robust sensor can be conformally adhered on skin and has the perception capability to detect real-time transient human motions and the multimodal mechanical stimuli of stretching, bending, tapping, and twisting. The sensor has feasibility for real-time health monitoring as it can distinguish a wide range of human physiological activities like breathing, gulping, phonation, pulse monitoring, and finger and wrist bending. This multimodal wearable epidermal sensor possesses an ultrahigh gauge factor (GF) of 9178 with a large stretchability of 56%, significant durability for 5000 stretching-releasing cycles, and a fast response/recovery time of 59/88 ms. We anticipate that this novel, simple, and scalable design of a sensor with outstanding features will pave a new way to consummate the requirements of wearable electronics, flexible touch sensors, and electronic skin.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of NovaMin™ (SHY-NM) and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate fluoride (CPP-ACPF) (tooth mousse plus™) on enamel remineralization using DIAGNOdent® and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Methodology: Eighty-six natural permanent maxillary first premolars were selected and randomly divided into two groups of 43 each, Group A (NovaMin™) and Group B (CPP-ACPF). All the samples were assessed using DIAGNOdent® (KaVo) at the baseline, after demineralization, and remineralization after 7 days. Two samples were randomly selected from each group after remineralization to evaluate the surface changes using SEM at × 1000 and × 2000. Results: The mean value of remineralization was highest for Group A NovaMin™ (6.56 ± 0.93) compared to Group B, CPP-ACPF (tooth mousse plus™) (6.02 ± 1.09). The maximum demineralization to remineralization value within the groups showed that the mean values in Group B CPP-ACPF (7.02 ± 3.02) was higher than Group A NovaMin™ (6.42 ± 2.21). The difference in remineralizing potential between the groups and demineralization to remineralization value in within-group comparison was not found to be statistically significant. Conclusion: On comparing Group A NovaMin™ and Group B CPP-ACPF, Group B CPP-ACPF showed a higher amount of remineralization than Group A NovaMin™. From the present study, it can be inferred that both the experimental groups have the potential for remineralization.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In this coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, pediatric children who are admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) are more susceptible to ventilator-associated pneumonia. Ventilator-associated pneumonia is the second-most common hospital-acquired infection in pediatric ICU. Oral hygiene maintenance is a challenge here. To maintain oral hygiene and to prevent colonization of microorganisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus which cause ventilator-associated pneumonia, a study was conducted, which aimed at finding the efficacy of chlorhexidine (CHX) wipes (as an oral hygiene aid) on colonization of these organisms in pediatric ICU. METHODS AND METHODOLOGY The study was conducted among twenty children (8 in ventilation and 12 without ventilation) in the age range of 6-14 years admitted in the pediatric ICU. Swab sample was taken on the 1st day from both groups. Culturing of swab sample was done for colonization of microorganisms. CHX gluconate with a concentration of 0.2% was used as wipes. Swab sample was collected at the end of the 2nd day. Culturing of swab sample was done for colonization of microorganisms. Statistical analysis was done. RESULTS A statistically significant difference (P ≤ 0.04) was seen in the ventilator group with a mean of 0.75 ± 13.241 in the reduction of S. aureus count. P. aeruginosa growth was not seen in either of the groups before or after the use of CHX wipe. CONCLUSIONS Standard oral hygiene practice has the potential to contribute to improved oral and general health of children in pediatric ICU. CHX wipes significantly reduced S. aureus count in ventilator patients. Hence, it could be used as an effective antimicrobial agent in pediatric ICU.

Abstract
Background:Rheumatoid arthritis is implicated in causing adverse pregnancy outcomes including high rates of prematurity and low birth weight. But little is known about the impact of the disease when it’s controlled as most of the information is extracted from retrospective data.Objectives:To examine the adverse obstetric outcomes after controlling disease during pregnancy. We also took into account many confounders that might affect the outcome.Methods:This is an ongoing Case-Control Prospective Cohort. It is implemented in a tertiary center where cases are recruited from a single specialized pregnancy and rheumatic disease clinic to ensure standardized management. These cases were fulfilling the ACR 2010 classification criteria for rheumatoid arthritis. Disease activity was measured using CDAI once before pregnancy and once in each trimester. We excluded subjects with chronic morbidities or twin pregnancy. Data were collected in pre-specified data sheets. Routine blood tests in addition to C-reactive protein were obtained. Cases were recruited at different disease activity stages, but treatment was escalated to reach remission as possible by the third trimester. Data were analyzed using SPSS software for descriptive and comparative analyses.Results:Since 2017 we have recruited 215 subjects. A total of 190 completed pregnancies were analyzed in this report (114 controls and 76 cases). Five subjects were excluded as their disease was not controlled by 27 weeks of gestation. Baseline characteristics of age, baseline BMI and anemia were similar. Exposure to passive smoking was significantly higher in the control group. There was no statistical difference in the incidence of gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and infections. Rates of abortions and cesarean sections were significantly higher in the cases group. The incidence of PROM & low birth weight was not statistically different. Three cases of IUFD were reported among controls versus none in the cases (Table 1). Prematurity rate was numerically higher in the control group but did not reach a statistical difference. Congenital anomalies and NICU admission rates were comparable between the groups. But the incidence of neonatal morbidities was significantly higher in the control group (p. value 0.006), but the majority of morbidities were due to jaundice that resolved with phototherapy. we have evaluated the incidence of group B streptococcal Agalactae as a possible contributor to morbidities but it was similar between the groups. All cases were on DMARDs during pregnancy. Hydroxychloroquine was the most commonly used (55%) followed by sulfasalazine (40%). Steroid was used for variable duration in pregnancy in 23 cases. In most of them, it was tapered and stopped by the end of pregnancy. Abstract
In the present scenario, conducting and lightweight flexible polymer nanocomposites rival metallic and inorganic semiconducting materials as highly sensitive piezoresistive force sensors. Herein, we explore the feasibility of vertically aligned carbon nanotube (VACNT) nanocomposites impregnated in different polymer matrixes, envisioned as highly efficient piezoresistors in sensor applications. Polymer nanocomposites are selectively designed and fabricated using three different polymer matrixes, i.e., polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), polyurethane (PU), and epoxy resins with ideal reinforcement of VACNTs to enhance the thermal stability, conductivity, compressibility, piezoresistivity, and sensitivity of these nanocomposites. To predict the best piezoresistive force sensor, we evaluated the structural, optical, thermal, electrical, mechanical, and piezoresistive properties of the nanocomposites using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), I-V measurements, compressive stress-strain measurements, hysteresis, sensitivity, and force studies. The results demonstrate that the PDMS/VACNT nanocomposite is capable of sustaining large force with almost complete recovery and enhanced sensitivity, thereby fulfilling the desirable need for a highly efficient conductive and flexible force sensor as compared to PU/VACNT and epoxy/VACNT nanocomposites.

Abstract
Postpartum stress has been shown to have an association with infant growth, nutrition, bonding, temperament and ultimately childhood mental wellbeing. When persistent, recurring or chronic, it can negatively impact infant outcome, including the subscales of mental wellbeing such as growth, development, feeding, attachment and sleep. This study aims to define the physical and functional effect of postpartum stress on measures of infant mental wellbeing. A systematic review of English language articles published between 1995 and 2019 on PubMed, Medline and Psych base databases was carried out. Search terms used included postpartum, stress, infant, growth, development, nutrition, attachment and sleep. Both qualitative and quantitative studies were reviewed with eligibility criteria. Inclusion criteria of human studies, mothers diagnosed with depressive and anxiety symptoms postpartum with infant correlates were used. All animal studies and studies with women already on medication were excluded. A total of 74 articles were reviewed and summarized into postpartum stress associations with infant growth, development, nutrition, sleep and maternal fetal attachment. Postpartum stress is negatively associated with poor developmental trajectories and linear growth deficits, causing stunting in growth; poor language and cognitive development; poor gross and fine motor movement, and infant sleep. An inverse relationship exists with breast feeding and postpartum depression. More importantly, breastfeeding efficacy is important for sustaining positive infant feeding outcome. Increased maternal age during postpartum depression has been linked, as a contributing factor, to decreased maternal fetal attachment/bonding. A ripple effect exists from the association between postpartum stress and poor infant sleep. There is strong evidence that correlates PPS to infant outcome, mediated through many external factors. More research needs to be conducted to delineate and potentially mitigate the impact of modifiable factors. Not all articles in the literature were reviewed.

Abstract
Patients with moderate to severe dry eyes are often screened at the Dry Eye Clinic to rule out connective tissue diseases. Rheumatoid factor (RF) is one of the screening tools to rule out rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Patients who turn out positive for the RF are often subjected to anti-CCP antibody evaluation for confirmation of disease. This article tries to highlight 3 cases of negative and anti-CCP antibody positive cases which presented to the ophthalmic clinic, unaware of their systemic status. Though RF is the cheapest modality to screen for RA, it is not always a reliable marker. One should order anti-CCP antibody for patients where suspicion is high, despite RF being normal.

Abstract
In the present study, microalgae Chlorococcum humicola and Chlorella vulgaris were grown in different concentrations of NaCl (25-1000 mM) to elucidate its impact on morphology, lipid synthesis, minerals status and antioxidative responses. Scanning Electron microscopy showed distorted cell morphology and increased cell size by 33.52% (C. humicola) and 27.79% (C. vulgaris) at 100 mM NaCl. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy data revealed reduction in mineral contents (C, S, Fe, Mg, Si, Mn and Zn) by 14-54% in both algae. Further, C. humicola was found to have high lipid content than C. vulgaris under NaCl regime. The activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione reductase were increased by 2.5-5 folds in both algae as compared to control. The increased level of ascorbate, cysteine and proline in both algae indicated tolerance against salinity. Thus, C. humicola and C. vulgaris may exhibit dual benefits viz., high lipid production and reclamation of sodic soil.

Abstract
The emergence of complex and fascinating states of quantum matter in the neighborhood of zero temperature phase transitions suggests that such quantum phenomena should be studied in a variety of settings. Advanced technologies of the future may be fabricated from materials where the cooperative behavior of charge, spin and current can be manipulated at cryogenic temperatures. The progagating lattice dynamics of displacive ferroelectrics make them appealing for the study of quantum critical phenomena that is characterized by both space- and time-dependent quantities. In this key issues article we aim to provide a self-contained overview of ferroelectrics near quantum phase transitions. Unlike most magnetic cases, the ferroelectric quantum critical point can be tuned experimentally to reside at, above or below its upper critical dimension; this feature allows for detailed interplay between experiment and theory using both scaling and self-consistent field models. Empirically the sensitivity of the ferroelectric T c's to external and to chemical pressure gives practical access to a broad range of temperature behavior over several hundreds of Kelvin. Additional degrees of freedom like charge and spin can be added and characterized systematically. Satellite memories, electrocaloric cooling and low-loss phased-array radar are among possible applications of low-temperature ferroelectrics. We end with open questions for future research that include textured polarization states and unusual forms of superconductivity that remain to be understood theoretically.

Abstract
Gravitational waves have been detected from a binary neutron star merger event, GW170817. The detection of electromagnetic radiation from the same source has shown that the merger occurred in the outskirts of the galaxy NGC 4993, at a distance of 40 megaparsecs from Earth. We report the detection of a counterpart radio source that appears 16 days after the event, allowing us to diagnose the energetics and environment of the merger. The observed radio emission can be explained by either a collimated ultrarelativistic jet, viewed off-axis, or a cocoon of mildly relativistic ejecta. Within 100 days of the merger, the radio light curves will enable observers to distinguish between these models, and the angular velocity and geometry of the debris will be directly measurable by very long baseline interferometry.

Abstract
AIM AND OBJECTIVE To estimate the accuracy and assess the sensitivity and specificity of direct visual examination (DVE), computerized radiograph (VISTA SCAN mini), and DIAGNOdent (DD) for caries diagnosis in primary molars as compared to histological examination of the teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS An in vitro comparative study was carried out on 40 freshly extracted primary molars with questionable pit and fissures that yielded 89 examination sites. These samples were mounted on plaster and were subjected to examination methods for caries detection on the occlusal surface by two trained and calibrated examiners. The examination methods used in this study were DVE, computerized radiographic (CR) examination, laser fluorescence examination using DD followed by histological examination which is a gold standard; later, these samples were examined under microscope for caries extent. The scoring criteria given by Nytun et al. were used in this study for scoring the extent of caries. RESULTS The sensitivity for caries in enamel were 66.10%, 52.86%, and 54.17% for DVE, CR, and DD, respectively, while the specificity for DVE, CR, and DD were found to be 86.67%, 68.42%, and 76.47%, respectively. For dentinal caries, sensitivity for DVE, CR, and DD were 86.67%, 92.86%, and 81.25%, respectively, while the specificity were 66.10%, 56%, and 54.79%, respectively. The accuracy were 73.03%, 61.80%, and 59.55%, respectively, suggesting that the DVE showed highest sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for enamel caries, whereas for dentinal caries, CR showed highest sensitivity and DVE showed highest specificity and accuracy. CONCLUSION The DD exhibited better specificity than sensitivity for enamel lesions and better sensitivity than specificity for lesions into dentin. DD may prove useful as a predictive clinical tool and should only be used in addition to other diagnostic methods such as visual inspection and dental radiographs to avoid false-positive diagnoses.

Abstract
Oxidative amidation is a valuable process for the transformation of oxygenated organic compounds to valuable amides. However, the reaction is severely limited by the use of an expensive catalyst and limited substrate scope. To circumvent these limitations, designing a transition-metal-based nanocatalyst via more straightforward and economical methodology with superior catalytic performances with broad substrate scope is desirable. To resolve the aforementioned issues, we report a facile method for the synthesis of nanocatalysts NiO and CuO by the sol-gel-assisted thermal decomposition of complexes [Ni(hep-H)(H2O)4]SO4 (SSMP-1) and [Cu(μ-hep)(BA)]2 (SSMP-2) [hep-H = 2-(2-hydroxylethyl)pyridine; BA = benzoic acid] as single-source molecular precursors (SSMPs) for the oxidative amidation of benzyl alcohol, benzaldehyde, and BA by using N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as the solvent and as an amine source, in the presence of tert-butylhydroperoxide (TBHP) as the oxidant, at T = 80 °C. In addition to nanocatalysts NiO and CuO, our previously reported Co/CoO nanocatalyst (CoNC), derived from the complex [CoII(hep-H)(H2O)4]SO4 (A) as an SSMP, was also explored for the aforementioned reaction. Also, we have carefully investigated the difference in the catalytic performance of Co-, Ni-, and Cu-based nanoparticles synthesized from the SSMP for the conversion of various oxygenated and unsaturated organic compounds to their respective amides. Among all, CuO showed an optimum catalytic performance for the oxidative amidation of various oxygenated and unsaturated organic compounds with a broad reaction scope. Finally, CuO can be recovered unaltered and reused for several (six times) recycles without any loss in catalytic activity.

Abstract
AbstractTuberculosis is rapidly reemerging as a major health problem due to rising incidence of HIV cases across the globe. Central nervous system involvement is rare, but rarely multiple intracerebral granulomas can occur or occasional solitary tuberculoma also develops. The authors report a unique case of 24-year-old woman suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis developed headache and vomiting. Cranial CT scan revealed multiple widespread deposit of intracranial granuloma of sizeable lesion mimicking starry sky at night appearance. Excision of one tuberculoma was done for confirmation of definitive diagnosis, and histopathology was suggestive of tuberculoma. The patient also underwent VP shunt surgery. At last follow-up at 15 years following surgery, she was doing well.

Abstract
IntroductionSystematic assessment of risks is an essential component of care in psychiatric mother baby units. Self-harm, infant neglect and harm or the vulnerable physical health of both mother and infant may all pose risks.AimDevelopment of a risk assessment tool and risk assessment among mother-infant dyads at a MBU in Bangalore, India.MethodsBased on data from 200 admissions, doctors and nurses of the unit developed a 15-item tool for risk assessment. Risk was assessed by both nurses and doctors among 58 consecutive mothers admitted to the unit. Risk domains included risks to self, to infant, related to infant health and feeding and violence faced by mother. Frequencies of various risks were calculated. Nurses’ risk assessments were compared to the residents’ risk assessments.ResultsThe mean age of the mothers was 25 (±4) years, age of infant 4 (±4) months and duration of episode was 4 (±14) months. Diagnoses included acute polymorphic psychosis (30%), BPAD (27%) and depression (21%). 47% had high suicidal risk and 28% had made an attempt in the current episode. 22% had expressed ideas of infant harm and 24% had physically harmed the infant. 48% of mothers had been physically violent. Multiple risks were seen in 47%. Doctors were able to identify risks more often than nurses.ConclusionRisks for self-harm, infant harm and related to infant health were high. Systematic risk assessment by both nurses and doctors is important in an MBU to ensure adequate care for the mother infant dyad.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to check the competence of cryopreserved black Bengal buck semen to produce goat embryo through IVF. So far, cryopreserved black Bengal buck semen has not been used to produce goat embryos by IVF. For the study, fresh goat oviducts and ovaries were collected from slaughterhouse in a thermo flask containing 0.9% saline solution supplemented with antibiotic (400 IU mL−1 penicillin and 500 mg mL−1 streptomycin) at 30–35°C and transported to laboratory within 2–3 h of slaughter. Cumulus-oocyte complexes were collected from slaughterhouse ovaries, washed 5–6 times, and cultured in maturation media (TCM-199 + 10% FBS + 10 mg mL−1 FSH-P + 0.81 mM sodium pyruvate + 5% follicular fluid + 50 mg mL−1 gentamicin sulfate + 1 μg mL−1 oestradiol + 100 μM cysteamine) for 27 h in a 5% CO2 incubator at 38.5°C with maximum humidity. After 27 h of culture, cumulus cells were separated from matured oocytes by repeated pipetting using a fine pipette in fertilization Bracket and Oliphant’s (BO) medium. After removal of cumulus cells, the oocytes were transferred to acidified Tyrode’s medium for zona thinning for 52 s and were co-incubated with capacitated sperms for fertilization in fertilization BO medium at 38.5°C in 5% CO2 in air with maximum humidity. In the experiment I, freshly collected buck semen was used for IVF after processing for capacitation. In experiment II, cryopreserved buck semen straws were thawed and sperm were capacitated in vitro and used for fertilization. After 5 h of co-incubation, presumptive zygotes were washed thoroughly and cultured in embryo development medium for cleavage. Three different in vitro development media (RVCL, mSOF + 2.5% BSA, and KSOM + 0.5% BSA) were used. After 40 to 42 h, cleavage was observed and embryos were co-incubated with oviducal cells in replacement media for further development. In the fresh group, overall cleavage rates (%) were 37.76 ± 2.98, 39.60 ± 1.75, 29.01 ± 1.74 and morula formation rates (%) were 7.72 ± 3.38, 6.03 ± 1.29, 3.00 ± 3.00 in RVCL, mSOF, and KSOM media, respectively. However, in the cryopreserved group the overall cleavage rates (%) were 29.17 ± 2.56, 27.70 ± 2.31, and 24.17 ± 1.44 in RVCL, mSOF, and KSOM media, respectively, and morula formation (%) was achieved 2.93 ± 0.97 in RVCL media. These results indicate that cryopreserved black Bengal buck semen have competence to produce embryos and could be used for embryo development through IVF.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ability of microorganisms to evade antibiotic pressure is challenging in healthcare as patients have little or no drug treatment options. Detection of the prevalence of antibacterial resistance pattern helps towards improved antibiotic policy and empirical treatment. OBJECTIVES We carried out antibiogram profiling and documented the prevalence and co-prevalence of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) and extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) encoding genes in urinary Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia isolates. MATERIALS AND METHODS Antibiotic susceptibilities were tested for 241 isolates of E. coli and K. pneumoniae from urine samples collected from out- and hospitalised patients. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was carried out on isolates tested positive for phenotypic production of metallo-β-lactamase and ESBL. A multiplex PCR assay was designed to detect the genes. RESULTS Multiplex PCR assay designed had a limit of detection of 10 3 CFU/mL in vitro. NDM detected was significantly higher among K. pneumoniae compared to E. coli (69.2% vs. 18.2%; P = 0.001). Of 17, 14 NDM positive isolates also harboured ESBL genes. The co-production of CTX-M + TEM + NDM (3/9; 33.3% and 5/8; 62.5%) was most common in K. pneumoniae and E. coli, respectively while CTX-M + TEM + SHV + NDM was found in one isolate. Of the 156 phenotypically ESBL producing isolates, CTX-M, TEM and SHV was detected by PCR in 85, 53 and 24 isolates, respectively. CONCLUSION NDM and ESBL co-producing isolates were both community (64.7%) and hospital (35.29%) acquired among E. coli. Antibiotic resistance can be effectively evaluated by a cost and time effective molecular method, such as the multiplex PCR used in this study, which complement culture and sensitivity tests.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study was conducted to determine the point prevalence of depression and anxiety in patients suffering from tuberculosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Total of 100 consecutive cases were included who were already diagnosed with tuberculosis after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Tools used were General Health Questionnaire 12 (GHQ-12), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). RESULT Out of 100 cases, 74 cases found to be having psychiatric symptoms, in which 35 cases were suffering from depression and 39 were suffering from anxiety. CONCLUSION Psychiatric morbidity was present in the diagnosed cases of tuberculosis. Proper psycho education, timely intervention in the form of proper diagnosis and specific treatment was required. It should also be evaluated further on a bigger target population.
