Abstract
BACKGROUND The GHMP kinase gene family encompasses ATP-dependent kinases, significantly involved in the biosynthesis of isoprenes, amino acids, and metabolism of carbohydrates. Banana is a staple tropical crop that is globally consumed but known for high sensitivity to salt, cold, and drought stresses. The GHMP kinases are known to play a significant role during abiotic stresses in plants. The present study emphasizes the role of GHMP kinases in various abiotic stress conditions in banana. METHODS AND RESULTS We identified 12 GHMP kinase (MaGHMP kinase) genes in the banana genome database and witnessed the presence of the conserved Pro-X-X-X-Gly-Leu-X-Ser-Ser-Ala domain in their protein sequences. All genes were found to be involved in ATP-binding and carried kinase activity confronting their biological roles in the isoprene (27%) and amino acid (20%) biosyntheses. The expression analysis of genes during cold, drought, and salt stress conditions in tissue culture grown banana cultivar Rasthali plants showed a significant involvement of MaGHMP kinase genes in these stress conditions. The highest expression of MaGHMP kinase3 (8.5 fold) was noted during cold stress, while MaGHMP kinase1 (25 fold and 40.01 fold) showed maximum expression during drought and salt stress conditions in leaf tissue of Rasthali. CONCLUSION Our findings suggested that MaGHMP kinase1 (MaHSK) and MaGHMP kinase3 (MaGlcAK) could be considered promising candidates for thwarting the abiotic stresses in banana.

Abstract
MAIN CONCLUSION The present investigation profoundly asserted the catalytic potential of plant-based aldo-ketoreductase, postulating its role in polyketide biosynthesis and providing new insights for tailored biosynthesis of vital plant polyketides for therapeutics. Plants hold great potential as a future source of innovative biocatalysts, expanding the possibilities within chemical reactions and generating a variety of benefits. The aldo-keto reductase (AKR) superfamily includes a huge collection of NAD(P)H-dependent oxidoreductases that carry out a variety of redox reactions essential for biosynthesis, detoxification, and intermediary metabolism. The present study involved the isolation, cloning, and purification of a novel aldo-ketoreductase (AvAKR) from the leaves of Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) by heterologous gene expression in Escherichia coli based on the unigene sequences of putative ketoreductase and cDNA library screening by oligonucleotide hybridization. The in-silico structural analysis, phylogenetic relationship, and molecular modeling were outranged to approach the novelty of the sequence. Additionally, agroinfiltration of the candidate gene tagged with a green fluorescent protein (GFP) was employed for transient expression in the Nicotiana benthamiana to evaluate the sub-cellular localization of the candidate gene. The AvAKR preferred cytoplasmic localization and shared similarities with the known plant AKRs, keeping the majority of the conserved active-site residues in the AKR superfamily enzymes. The enzyme facilitated the NADPH-dependent reduction of various carbonyl substrates, including benzaldehyde and sugars, proclaiming a broad spectrum range. Our study successfully isolated and characterized a novel aldo-ketoreductase (AvAKR) from Aloe vera, highlighting its versatile NADPH-dependent carbonyl reduction proficiency therewith showcasing its potential as a versatile biocatalyst in diverse redox reactions.

Abstract
Aggregation of both amyloid beta (Aβ) peptide and hyperphosphorylated tau proteins is the major pathological hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Moieties that carry anti-amyloidogenic potency against both of the aggregating entities are considered to be promising drug candidatures for the disease. In the current work, we have synthesized amphipathic dipeptide vesicle-templated selenium nanoparticles (RΔF-SeNPs) as potential entities to combat AD. We have investigated and established their anti-amyloidogenic activity against different peptide-based amyloid models, such as the reductionist model based on the dipeptide phenylalanine-phenylalanine (FF) derived from Aβ; a model based on the hexapeptide Ac-PHF6 (306VQIVYK311) derived from tau protein; and the full-length Aβ42 polypeptide-based model. We also evaluated the neuroprotective characteristics of RΔF-SeNPs against FF, Ac-PHF6, and Aβ42 fibril-induced toxicity in neuroblastoma, SH-SY5Y cells. RΔF-SeNPs further exhibited neuroprotective effects in streptozotocin (STZ) treated neuronal (N2a) cells carrying AD-like features. In addition, studies conducted in an intra-cerebroventricular STZ-instigated rat model of dementia revealed that RΔF-SeNP-treated animals showed improved cognitive activity and reduced Aβ42 aggregate burden in brain tissues as compared with the STZ-treated group. Moreover, in vivo brain distribution studies conducted in animal models additionally demonstrated the brain-homing ability of RΔF-SeNPs. All together, these studies supported the potency of RΔF-SeNPs as efficient and propitious disease-modifying therapeutic agents for combating AD.

Abstract
Glucuronokinase (GlcAK) converts glucuronic acid into glucuronic acid-1-phosphate, which is then converted into UDP-glucuronic acid (UDP-GlcA) via myo-inositol oxygenase (MIOX) pathway. UDP-GlcA acts as a precursor in the synthesis of nucleotide-sugar moieties forming cell wall biomass. GlcAK being present at the bifurcation point between UDP-GlcA and ascorbic acid (AsA) biosyntheses, makes it necessary to study its role in plants. In this study, the three homoeologs of GlcAK gene from hexaploid wheat were overexpressed in Arabidopsis thaliana. The GlcAK overexpressing transgenic lines showed decreased contents of AsA and phytic acid (PA) as compared to control plants. Root length and seed germination analyses under abiotic stress (drought and abscisic acid) conditions revealed enhanced root length in transgenic lines as compared to control plants. These results indicate that the MIOX pathway might be contributing towards AsA biosynthesis as evident by the decreased AsA content in the GlcAK overexpressing transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana plants. Findings of the present study will enhance the understanding of the involvement of GlcAK gene in MIOX pathway and subsequent physiological effects in plants.

Abstract
l-Ascorbic acid (AsA) is a potent antioxidant and essential micronutrient for the growth and development of plants and animals. AsA is predominantly synthesized by the Smirnoff-Wheeler (SW) pathway in plants where the GDP-L-galactose phosphorylase (GGP) gene encodes the rate-limiting step. In the present study, AsA was estimated in twelve banana cultivars, where Nendran carried the highest (17.2 mg/100 g) amount of AsA in ripe fruit pulp. Five GGP genes were identified from the banana genome database, and they were located at chromosome 6 (4 MaGGPs) and chromosome 10 (1 MaGGP). Based on in-silico analysis, three potential MaGGP genes were isolated from the cultivar Nendran and subsequently overexpressed in Arabidopsis thaliana. Significant enhancement in AsA (1.52 to 2.20 fold) level was noted in the leaves of all three MaGGPs overexpressing lines as compared to non-transformed control plants. Among all, MaGGP2 emerged as a potential candidate for AsA biofortification in plants. Further, the complementation assay of Arabidopsis thaliana vtc-5-1 and vtc-5-2 mutants with MaGGP genes overcome the AsA deficiency that showed improved plant growth as compared to non-transformed control plants. This study lends strong affirmation towards development of AsA biofortified plants, particularly the staples that sustain the personages in developing countries.

Abstract
The enormous perennial monocotyledonous herb banana (Musa spp.), which includes dessert and cooking varieties, is found in more than 120 countries and is a member of the order Zingiberales and family Musaceae. The production of bananas requires a certain amount of precipitation throughout the year, and its scarcity reduces productivity in rain-fed banana-growing areas due to drought stress. To increase the tolerance of banana crops to drought stress, it is necessary to explore crop wild relatives (CWRs) of banana. Although molecular genetic pathways involved in drought stress tolerance of cultivated banana have been uncovered and understood with the introduction of high-throughput DNA sequencing technology, next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques, and numerous "omics" tools, unfortunately, such approaches have not been thoroughly implemented to utilize the huge potential of wild genetic resources of banana. In India, the northeastern region has been reported to have the highest diversity and distribution of Musaceae, with more than 30 taxa, 19 of which are unique to the area, accounting for around 81% of all wild species. As a result, the area is regarded as one of the main locations of origin for the Musaceae family. The understanding of the response of the banana genotypes of northeastern India belonging to different genome groups to water deficit stress at the molecular level will be useful for developing and improving drought tolerance in commercial banana cultivars not only in India but also worldwide. Hence, in the present review, we discuss the studies conducted to observe the effect of drought stress on different banana species. Moreover, the article highlights the tools and techniques that have been used or that can be used for exploring and understanding the molecular basis of differentially regulated genes and their networks in different drought stress-tolerant banana genotypes of northeast India, especially wild types, for unraveling their potential novel traits and genes.

Abstract
We summarise recent advancements to achieve higher homologous recombination based gene targeting efficiency in different animals and plants. The genome editing has revolutionized the agriculture and human therapeutic sectors by its ability to create precise, stable and predictable mutations in the genome. It depends upon targeted double-strand breaks induction by the engineered endonucleases, which then gets repaired by highly conserved endogenous DNA repair mechanisms. The repairing could be done either through non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) or homology-directed repair (HDR) pathways. The HDR-based editing can be applied for precise gene targeting such as insertion of a new gene, gene replacement and altering of the regulatory sequence of a gene to control the existing protein expression. However, HDR-mediated editing is considered challenging because of lower efficiency in higher eukaryotes, thus, preventing its widespread application. This article reviews the recent progress of HDR-mediated editing and discusses novel strategies such as cell cycle synchronization, modulation of DNA damage repair factors, engineering of Cas protein favoring HDR and CRISPR-Cas reagents delivery methods to improve efficiency for generating knock-in events in both plants and animals. Further, multiplexing of described methods may be promising towards achieving higher donor template-assisted homologous recombination efficiency at the target locus.

Abstract
Plant-specific WUSCHEL-related homeobox (WOX) transcription factors are known to be involved in plant developmental processes, especially in embryogenesis. In this study, a total of thirteen WOX members were identified in the banana (Musa acuminata) genome (MaWOX) and characterized for in-silico analysis. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these genes were divided into three clades (ancient, intermediate and modern) which reflected the evolutionary history of WOX families. Furthermore, modern clade members have shown higher variations in gene structural features and carried unique conserved motifs (motif 3 and motif 4) when compared to the members of other clades. The differential expression of all 13 MaWOX was observed in early (embryogenic cell suspension (ECS), multiplying ECS, germinating embryos, young leaflet and node of germinated plantlets) and late (unripe fruit peel and pulp, ripe fruit peel and pulp) developmental stages of banana cultivar Grand Naine. The maximum expression of MaWOX6 (18 fold) and MaWOX13 (120 fold) was found during somatic embryogenesis and in unripe fruit pulp, respectively. Moreover, numerous cis-elements responsive to drought, cold, ethylene, methyl jasmonate (MeJA), abscisic acid (ABA) and gibberellic acid (GA) were observed in all MaWOX promoter regions. The subsequent expression analysis under various abiotic stresses (cold, drought and salt) revealed maximum expression of the MaWOX3 (830 fold), MaWOX8a (30 fold) and MaWOX11b (105 fold) in salt stress. It gives evidence about their possible role in salt stress tolerance in banana. Hence, the present study provides precise information on the MaWOX gene family and their expression in various tissues and stressful environmental conditions that may help to develop climate-resilient banana plants. Abstract
Ascorbic acid (AsA) also known as vitamin C is considered as an essential micronutrient in the diet of humans. The human body is unable to synthesize AsA, thus solely dependent on exogenous sources to accomplish the nutritional requirement. AsA plays a crucial role in different physiological aspects of human health like bone formation, iron absorption, maintenance and development of connective tissues, conversion of cholesterol to bile acid and production of serotonin. It carries antioxidant properties and is involved in curing various clinical disorders such as scurvy, viral infection, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, anemia, and diabetes. It also plays a significant role in COVID-19 prevention and recovery by improving the oxygen index and enhancing the production of natural killer cells and T-lymphocytes. In plants, AsA plays important role in floral induction, seed germination, senescence, ROS regulation and photosynthesis. AsA is an essential counterpart of the antioxidant system and helps to defend the plants against abiotic and biotic stresses. Surprisingly, the deficiencies of AsA are spreading in both developed and developing countries. The amount of AsA in the major food crops such as wheat, rice, maize, and other raw natural plant foods is inadequate to fulfill its dietary requirements. Hence, the biofortification of AsA in staple crops would be feasible and cost-effective means of delivering AsA to populations that may have limited access to diverse diets and other interventions. In this review, we endeavor to provide information on the role of AsA in plants and human health, and also perused various biotechnological and agronomical approaches for elevating AsA content in food crops.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The association between aerosol and lightning has been investigated with long-term decadal data (2005-2014) for lightning, aerosol optical depth (AOD), relative humidity, and effective cloud droplet size. To understand the complex relationship between aerosol and lightning, two different regions with different climatic and weather conditions, a humid region R1 (22°-29° N, 89°-92° E) and an arid region R2 (23°-28° N, 70°-76° E) of northern India, were chosen for the study domain. The results show that lightning activity was observed to occur more over the humid region R1, i.e., 1141 days (1/3 of total days), than over the arid region R2, i.e., 740 days (1/5 of total days). Also, over the humid region R1, the highest lightning flash density was recorded as nearly 4.6 × 10-4 flashes/km2/day observed for 18 days (1.5%); on the contrary, over the arid region R2, the maximum lightning flash density was observed to be 2.5 × 10-4 flashes/km2/day and occurred for about 22 days (2.9%). The analysis shows that a nonlinear relationship exists between aerosol and lightning with a highly associated influence of relative humidity. A very significant positive and negative co-relation that varies with relative humidity has been observed between AOD and lightning for both humid and arid regions. This shows relative humidity is the key factor in determining the increase or decrease of lightning activity. This study also shows that the larger the cloud droplet size, the higher the relative humidity and vice versa. This study emphasizes that aerosol concentration in the atmosphere influences cloud microphysics by modulating the size of cloud droplets and thereby regulating the lightning frequency. The atmospheric humidity is the driving factor in deciding the positive or negative co-relationship between aerosol and lightning. Abstract
This study aims to understand the regulatory mechanism of the β-carotene homeostasis by establishing transgene-free genome editing in banana. Carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs) belong to a miniature gene family having an imperative role in the intricated carotenoid metabolism in plants. Here, the expression pattern of multiple CCDs was correlated with the levels of carotenoid accumulation in two contrasting cultivars, viz., Nendran (high β-carotene) and Rasthali (low β-carotene). The higher expression of the RAS-CCD4 inversely correlated with β-carotene accumulation in fruit-pulp of the Rasthali. The docking analysis followed enzyme assay of purified RAS-CCD4 suggested β-carotene and 10-apo-β-carotenal as its preferred substrates. Bacterial complementation assay affirmed RAS-CCD4 role in β-carotene degradation and then overexpression of the RAS-CCD4 in the Arabidopsis thaliana further validated results in-vivo by the significant reduction in β-carotene. Subsequently, CRISPR/Cas9 mediated editing of CCD4 was demonstrated in the protoplasts and embryogenic cell lines of Rasthali. The carotenoid profiling in stable mutant lines revealed higher fold β-carotene accumulation in non-green tissue (roots) than in green tissue (leaf) compared with the unedited control plants. The differential expression of carotenoid pathway genes was correlated with the metabolites in the edited lines. The study suggests that carotenoid catabolism is regulated by the CCD4 in tissue and cultivar specific manners, and also demonstrated the use of the genome editing tool in developing transgene-free biofortified banana.

Belgium, Paraxerochrysium coryli (incl. Paraxerochrysium gen. nov.) from Corylus avellana. Brazil, Calvatia nordestina on soil, Didymella tabebuiicola from leaf spots on Tabebuia aurea, Fusarium subflagellisporum from hypertrophied floral and vegetative branches of Mangifera indica and Microdochium maculosum from living leaves of Digitaria insularis. Abstract
Banana is one of the most important fruit crops consumed globally owing to its high nutritional value. Previously, we demonstrated that the ripe pulp of the banana cultivar (cv.) Nendran (AAB) contained a high amount of pro-vitamin A carotenoids. However, the molecular factors involved in the ripening process in Nendran fruit are unexplored. Hence, we commenced a transcriptome study by using the Illumina HiSeq 2500 at two stages i.e. unripe and ripe fruit-pulp of Nendran. Overall, 3474 up and 4727 down-regulated genes were obtained. A large number of identified transcripts were related to genes involved in ripening, cell wall degradation and aroma formation. Gene ontology analysis highlighted differentially expressed genes that play a key role in various pathways. These pathways were mainly linked to cellular, molecular and biological processes. The present transcriptome study also reveals a crucial role of up-regulated carotenoid biosynthesis pathway genes namely, lycopene beta cyclase and geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase at the ripening stage. Genes related to the ripening and other processes like aroma and flavor were highly expressed in the ripe pulp. Expression of numerous transcription factor family genes was also identified. This study lays a path towards understanding the ripening, carotenoid accumulation and other related processes in banana.

Abstract
Around the world, more than 250 countries are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This outbreak can be controlled only by the diagnosis of the COVID-19 infection in early stages. It is found that the radiographic images are ideal for the fastest diagnosis of COVID-19 infection. This paper proposes an ensemble model which detects the COVID-19 infection in the early stage with the use of chest X-ray images. The transfer learning enables to reuse the pretrained models. The ensemble learning integrates various transfer learning models, i.e., EfficientNet, GoogLeNet, and XceptionNet, to design the proposed model. These models can categorize patients as COVID-19 (+), pneumonia (+), tuberculosis (+), or healthy. The proposed model enhances the classifier's generalization ability for both binary and multiclass COVID-19 datasets. Two popular datasets are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed ensemble model. The comparative analysis validates that the proposed model outperforms the state-of-art models in terms of various performance metrics.

Abstract
Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is the most common cereal crop that is considered to be deficient in provitamin A carotenoids. Carotenoids are prone to degrade into apocarotenoids by the activity of carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs). Hence, in this study, multiple CCDs were cloned from commercial Indian wheat cultivar HD2967 to understand their role in provitamin A carotenoids degradation. The homoeolog specific expression of HD-CCD1 and HD-CCD4 at different grain filling stages revealed the higher expression of transcripts arising from the A and B subgenomes of HD-CCD1. Furthermore, the grain development stages showed a strong negative correlation of HD-CCD1A (r = - 0.969) and B (r = - 0.970) homoeologs expression to that of β-carotene accumulation. It suggested that they could be potentially involved in deciding the turn-over of β-carotene in wheat grain. Three-dimensional (3D) structures for all six homoeologs of HD-CCD1 and HD-CCD4 were predicted using maize VP14 template to gain better insight into their molecular mechanism. Ramachandran plot assessment revealed that ~ 90% of residues are in the most favoured region. Docking studies with various carotenoid substrates revealed the higher affinity of HD-CCD1A and B for β-carotene and β-cryptoxanthin. Bacterial complementation analysis validated the functional role of all six homoeologs with HD-CCD1B showing the highest activity followed by HD-CCD1A for β-carotene degradation. Results of this study provide valuable insights into the characteristics of HD-CCDs in wheat and thereby justifying them (HD-CCD1A and B) as the candidate genes for employing genome editing tools for developing β-carotene enriched wheat grains. Abstract
The present study compared the effect of mitochondria-targeted (Mitoquinone, MitoQ) and untargeted cytosolic antioxidant (Resveratrol, RESV) supplementation on lipid peroxidation (LPO) and in-vitro sperm functions of cryopreserved buffalo bull semen. To optimize additive's concentration, sperm pellet obtained from twenty-four ejaculates was supplemented with different concentrations of MitoQ (20 nM, 100 nM, 200 nM); and RESV (10 μM, 25 μM, 50 μM) against control in the extender. The post-thaw sperm motility, livability, and membrane integrity were higher (P < 0.05) in 200 nM MitoQ and 50 μM RESV than other concentrations used. In another experiment, sperm pellet from thirty-two ejaculates was supplemented with 200 nM MitoQ and 50 μM RESV in the extender. Pre-freeze and post-thaw progressive motility and livability were higher (P < 0.05) in MitoQ (200 nM) than RESV (50 μM) treatment. MitoQ supplementation improved post-thaw membrane integrity (CFDA-PI) higher (P < 0.05) than RESV, however, hypo-osmotic swelling response observed no improvement with RESV treatment. Post-thaw LPO rate was lower (P < 0.05) and Bovine cervical mucus penetration was higher (P < 0.05) in MitoQ than RESV treatment. In post-thaw semen, MitoQ showed higher (P < 0.05) proportion of acrosome intact (FITC-PNA), live non-apoptotic (P < 0.01) sperm with a higher reduction (P < 0.05) in membrane scrambling. MitoQ improved (P < 0.01) proportion of sperm with high Mitochondrial Membrane Potential and low LPO (P < 0.01) than RESV treatment. In conclusion, improvement in post-thaw in-vitro sperm functions and cryo-tolerance was more evident in MitoQ than RESV supplemented buffalo bull semen. Our study provides a better strategy to mitigate oxidative stress by enhancing mitochondrial antioxidant system with targeted antioxidants than cytosolic antioxidant supplementation.

Abstract
On May 21, 2019 at 03:02:29 UTC Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo observed a short duration gravitational-wave signal, GW190521, with a three-detector network signal-to-noise ratio of 14.7, and an estimated false-alarm rate of 1 in 4900 yr using a search sensitive to generic transients. If GW190521 is from a quasicircular binary inspiral, then the detected signal is consistent with the merger of two black holes with masses of 85_{-14}^{+21} M_{⊙} and 66_{-18}^{+17} M_{⊙} (90% credible intervals). We infer that the primary black hole mass lies within the gap produced by (pulsational) pair-instability supernova processes, with only a 0.32% probability of being below 65 M_{⊙}. We calculate the mass of the remnant to be 142_{-16}^{+28} M_{⊙}, which can be considered an intermediate mass black hole (IMBH). The luminosity distance of the source is 5.3_{-2.6}^{+2.4} Gpc, corresponding to a redshift of 0.82_{-0.34}^{+0.28}. The inferred rate of mergers similar to GW190521 is 0.13_{-0.11}^{+0.30} Gpc^{-3} yr^{-1}.

Abstract
The magnetoelectric properties of exchange-coupled Ni/CoFeB-based composite multiferroic microstructures are investigated. The strength and sign of the magnetoelastic effect are found to be strongly correlated with the ratio between the thicknesses of two magnetostrictive materials. In cases where the thickness ratio deviates significantly from one, the magnetoelastic behavior of the multiferroic microstructures is dominated by the thicker layer, which contributes more strongly to the observed magnetoelastic effect. More symmetric structures with a thickness ratio equal to one show an emergent interfacial behavior which cannot be accounted for simply by summing up the magnetoelastic effects occurring in the two constituent layers. This aspect is clearly visible in the case of ultrathin bilayers, where the exchange coupling drastically affects the magnetic behavior of the Ni layer, making the Ni/CoFeB bilayer a promising next-generation synthetic magnetic system entirely. This study demonstrates the richness and high tunability of composite multiferroic systems based on coupled magnetic bilayers compared to their single magnetic layer counterparts. Furthermore, because of the compatibility of CoFeB with present magnetic tunnel junction-based spintronic technologies, the reported findings are expected to be of great interest for the development of ultralow-power magnetoelectric memory devices.

Abstract
Banana is one of the most economically important fruit crops worldwide. Genetic improvement in banana is a challenging task due to its parthenocarpic nature and triploid genome. Genetic modification of crops via the CRISPR/Cas9 module has emerged as a promising tool to develop important traits. In the present work, a CRISPR/Cas9-based approach was used to develop the β-carotene-enriched Cavendish banana cultivar (cv.) Grand Naine (AAA genome). The fifth exon of the lycopene epsilon-cyclase (LCYε) gene was targeted. The targeting specificity of the designed guide-RNA was also tested by its ability to create indels in the LCYε gene at the A genome of cv. Rasthali (AAB genome). Sequence analysis revealed multiple types of indels in the genomic region of Grand Naine LCYε (GN-LCYε). Metabolic profiling of the fruit pulp of selected edited lines showed enhanced accumulation of β-carotene content up to 6-fold (~24 μg/g) compared with the unedited plants. These lines also showed either an absence or a drastic reduction in the levels of lutein and α-carotene, suggesting metabolic reprogramming, without any significant effect on the agro-morphological parameters. In addition, differential expression of carotenoid pathway genes was observed in the edited lines in comparison to unedited plants. Overall, this is the first report in banana to improve nutritional trait by using a precise genome editing approach.

Abstract
Current interferometric gravitational-wave detectors are limited by quantum noise over a wide range of their measurement bandwidth. One method to overcome the quantum limit is the injection of squeezed vacuum states of light into the interferometer's dark port. Here, we report on the successful application of this quantum technology to improve the shot noise limited sensitivity of the Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detector. A sensitivity enhancement of up to 3.2±0.1 dB beyond the shot noise limit is achieved. This nonclassical improvement corresponds to a 5%-8% increase of the binary neutron star horizon. The squeezing injection was fully automated and over the first 5 months of the third joint LIGO-Virgo observation run O3 squeezing was applied for more than 99% of the science time. During this period several gravitational-wave candidates have been recorded.

Abstract
All of India's megacities are experiencing acute air pollution problems due to the accelerated urbanization/industrialization and rapid economic growth. Nowadays, environmental pollution due to particulate matter is a major threat to human health and our regional air quality. Long-term air pollution data with the high spatial and temporal resolution are required to understand regional air quality and its effects on environmental degradation and human health. In view of the above, the particulate matter (PM2.5: particles with diameters less than 2.5 μm and PM10: particles with diameters less than 10 μm) were measured from January 2017 to March 2018 at five locations (PM2.5 at 3 sites and PM10: at 2 sites) across the Bangalore city, India. The measured concentrations indicated that PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations in Bangalore exceeded the World Health Organization's air quality standards although the PM2.5 values did meet the Indian National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). The PM10 NAAQS was exceeded at one site. Temporal patterns showed a strong evening peak at all sites and morning rush hour peaks of varying strength. Season peaks were observed in the winter or premonsoon seasons again with variations among the five sites. Lower pairwise correlation coefficients among the sites suggest that the PM sources were largely localized. The role of meteorological parameters (MP) was studied, and it was observed that MP play a vital role in the accumulation of PM2.5. During calm wind condition (WS < 0.5 m/s), the concentrations of PM2.5 has increased by 17%, indicating localized sources; however, in the case of PM10, it was opposite. Annually, the highest concentrations of PM2.5 (> 30 μg/ m3) and PM10 (> 75 μg/m3) over receptor side were observed during lower wind speeds (< 2 knots), which indicate that the transportation does not play any crucial role in higher concentrations of PM over Bangalore.

Abstract
The recent discovery by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo of a gravitational wave signal from a binary neutron star inspiral has enabled tests of general relativity (GR) with this new type of source. This source, for the first time, permits tests of strong-field dynamics of compact binaries in the presence of matter. In this Letter, we place constraints on the dipole radiation and possible deviations from GR in the post-Newtonian coefficients that govern the inspiral regime. Bounds on modified dispersion of gravitational waves are obtained; in combination with information from the observed electromagnetic counterpart we can also constrain effects due to large extra dimensions. Finally, the polarization content of the gravitational wave signal is studied. The results of all tests performed here show good agreement with GR.

Abstract
KEY MESSAGE Rubus ellipticus is a wild crop having less number of EST-SSR markers. First attempt was made towards the transcriptomics data analysis and generation of EST-SSR markers which were used in genetic diversity and transferability studies. ABSTRACT Rubus ellipticus is a raspberry with yellow fruits, native to tropical and subtropical India and Asia. Leaves of Rubus ellipticus 'Kumarhatti' collection were utilized for cDNA library construction. More than 15 million sequencing reads were generated using NextSeq 500 Illumina RNA-seq technology. The DNASTAR software was used for de novo assembly from which 7777 unigenes with an average length of 500 bp was obtained. These unigenes were annotated using public databases, including NCBI non-redundant and gene ontology. De novo assembly of R. ellipticus unigenes found the highest similarity to apple than to other members of Rosaceae. This is the first attempt to use the Illumina platform of RNA sequencing and de novo assembly for R. ellipticus without a reference genome. In this study, unigenes were used for SSR marker development. ESTs containing SSR motifs were extracted using an online Microsatellite Identification Tool (MISA). SSR primers were designed from the SSR containing 704 EST sequences using the Websat software. Total 304 EST-SSRs primers were successfully designed, out of which 68 randomly selected primer pairs were custom synthesized and used for validation. Real-time PCR was also performed to analyze the relationship of transcriptional factors with fruit ripening. Out of 68 primer pairs, 61 were found to be informative in R. ellipticus, whereas 65 primer pairs were informative in the five tested genera of Rosaceae, i.e., pear, peach, apple, rose, and strawberry with 95.3% and 93.5% polymorphism, leading to the conclusion that these marker systems are very efficient to carryout diversity and cross transferability study in Rosaceae genera.

Abstract
We analyze the impact of a proposed tidal instability coupling p modes and g modes within neutron stars on GW170817. This nonresonant instability transfers energy from the orbit of the binary to internal modes of the stars, accelerating the gravitational-wave driven inspiral. We model the impact of this instability on the phasing of the gravitational wave signal using three parameters per star: an overall amplitude, a saturation frequency, and a spectral index. Incorporating these additional parameters, we compute the Bayes factor (lnB_{!pg}^{pg}) comparing our p-g model to a standard one. We find that the observed signal is consistent with waveform models that neglect p-g effects, with lnB_{!pg}^{pg}=0.03_{-0.58}^{+0.70} (maximum a posteriori and 90% credible region). By injecting simulated signals that do not include p-g effects and recovering them with the p-g model, we show that there is a ≃50% probability of obtaining similar lnB_{!pg}^{pg} even when p-g effects are absent. We find that the p-g amplitude for 1.4 M_{⊙} neutron stars is constrained to less than a few tenths of the theoretical maximum, with maxima a posteriori near one-tenth this maximum and p-g saturation frequency ∼70 Hz. This suggests that there are less than a few hundred excited modes, assuming they all saturate by wave breaking. For comparison, theoretical upper bounds suggest ≲10^{3} modes saturate by wave breaking. Thus, the measured constraints only rule out extreme values of the p-g parameters. They also imply that the instability dissipates ≲10^{51} erg over the entire inspiral, i.e., less than a few percent of the energy radiated as gravitational waves.

Abstract
We present the first Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo search for ultracompact binary systems with component masses between 0.2 M_{⊙}-1.0 M_{⊙} using data taken between September 12, 2015 and January 19, 2016. We find no viable gravitational wave candidates. Our null result constrains the coalescence rate of monochromatic (delta function) distributions of nonspinning (0.2 M_{⊙}, 0.2 M_{⊙}) ultracompact binaries to be less than 1.0×10^{6} Gpc^{-3} yr^{-1} and the coalescence rate of a similar distribution of (1.0 M_{⊙}, 1.0 M_{⊙}) ultracompact binaries to be less than 1.9×10^{4} Gpc^{-3} yr^{-1} (at 90% confidence). Neither black holes nor neutron stars are expected to form below ∼1 M_{⊙} through conventional stellar evolution, though it has been proposed that similarly low mass black holes could be formed primordially through density fluctuations in the early Universe and contribute to the dark matter density. The interpretation of our constraints in the primordial black hole dark matter paradigm is highly model dependent; however, under a particular primordial black hole binary formation scenario we constrain monochromatic primordial black hole populations of 0.2 M_{⊙} to be less than 33% of the total dark matter density and monochromatic populations of 1.0 M_{⊙} to be less than 5% of the dark matter density. The latter strengthens the presently placed bounds from microlensing surveys of massive compact halo objects (MACHOs) provided by the MACHO and EROS Collaborations.

Abstract
On 17 August 2017, the LIGO and Virgo observatories made the first direct detection of gravitational waves from the coalescence of a neutron star binary system. The detection of this gravitational-wave signal, GW170817, offers a novel opportunity to directly probe the properties of matter at the extreme conditions found in the interior of these stars. The initial, minimal-assumption analysis of the LIGO and Virgo data placed constraints on the tidal effects of the coalescing bodies, which were then translated to constraints on neutron star radii. Here, we expand upon previous analyses by working under the hypothesis that both bodies were neutron stars that are described by the same equation of state and have spins within the range observed in Galactic binary neutron stars. Our analysis employs two methods: the use of equation-of-state-insensitive relations between various macroscopic properties of the neutron stars and the use of an efficient parametrization of the defining function p(ρ) of the equation of state itself. From the LIGO and Virgo data alone and the first method, we measure the two neutron star radii as R_{1}=10.8_{-1.7}^{+2.0} km for the heavier star and R_{2}=10.7_{-1.5}^{+2.1} km for the lighter star at the 90% credible level. If we additionally require that the equation of state supports neutron stars with masses larger than 1.97 M_{⊙} as required from electromagnetic observations and employ the equation-of-state parametrization, we further constrain R_{1}=11.9_{-1.4}^{+1.4} km and R_{2}=11.9_{-1.4}^{+1.4} km at the 90% credible level. Finally, we obtain constraints on p(ρ) at supranuclear densities, with pressure at twice nuclear saturation density measured at 3.5_{-1.7}^{+2.7}×10^{34} dyn cm^{-2} at the 90% level.

Abstract
The LIGO and the Virgo collaborations have recently announced the first detections of Gravitational Waves. Due to their weak amplitude, Gravitational Waves are expected to produce a very small effect on free-falling masses, which undergo a displacement of the order of 10-18 m for a Km-scale mutual distance. This discovery showed that interferometric detectors are suitable to reveal such a feeble effect, and therefore represent a new tool for astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology in the understanding of the Universe. To better reconstruct the position of the Gravitational Wave source and increase the signal-to-noise ratio of the events by means of multiple coincidence, a network of detectors is necessary. In the USA, the LIGO project has recently concluded its second Observation Run (O2) with a couple of twin 4 kilometer-long arms detectors which are placed in Washington State and Louisiana. Advanced VIRGO (AdV) is a 3 kilometer-long arms second generation interferometer situated in Cascina, near Pisa in Italy. The installation of AdV has been completed in 2016, and the first commissioning phase allowed to get to the target early-stage sensitivity, which was sufficient to join LIGO in the O2 scientific run. In this paper, the challenges of the commissioning of AdV will be presented, together with its current performances and future perspectives. Finally, in the last paragraph the latest discoveries that occurred after the ICNFP 2017 conference will be also described.

Abstract
The detection of gravitational waves with Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo has enabled novel tests of general relativity, including direct study of the polarization of gravitational waves. While general relativity allows for only two tensor gravitational-wave polarizations, general metric theories can additionally predict two vector and two scalar polarizations. The polarization of gravitational waves is encoded in the spectral shape of the stochastic gravitational-wave background, formed by the superposition of cosmological and individually unresolved astrophysical sources. Using data recorded by Advanced LIGO during its first observing run, we search for a stochastic background of generically polarized gravitational waves. We find no evidence for a background of any polarization, and place the first direct bounds on the contributions of vector and scalar polarizations to the stochastic background. Under log-uniform priors for the energy in each polarization, we limit the energy densities of tensor, vector, and scalar modes at 95% credibility to Ω_{0}^{T}<5.58×10^{-8}, Ω_{0}^{V}<6.35×10^{-8}, and Ω_{0}^{S}<1.08×10^{-7} at a reference frequency f_{0}=25 Hz.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess user satisfaction and acceptability toward a cell phone-based short message system (SMS) application for fertility awareness. METHODS Between July 1 and September 30, 2013, the present observational study recruited women of reproductive age who were presenting for family planning services in Lucknow, India, who were not pregnant, agreed to use the application, and understood basic English. The application collected information on an individual's menstrual cycle and, using the calendar days approach, predicted fertility. Based on an algorithm, the application sent a daily SMS text indicating the participant's fertility status. Participants completed an acceptability survey at the end of the 60-day pilot period. RESULTS There were 21 participants enrolled. All reported that the application was highly acceptable, and found it to be private, secure, and convenient. All participants were interested in receiving future SMS reminders for tracking fertility. Most participants (20 [95%]) reported being likely or very likely to recommend the family planning application to friends. CONCLUSION The application, with the aims of helping participants to identify their most fertile days once a month during ovulation and make informed decisions regarding fertility and contraception, was highly acceptable and might be useful in low-resource settings worldwide. Larger studies are needed for software optimization and determination of long-term effectiveness.

Abstract
The LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations have announced the event GW170817, the first detection of gravitational waves from the coalescence of two neutron stars. The merger rate of binary neutron stars estimated from this event suggests that distant, unresolvable binary neutron stars create a significant astrophysical stochastic gravitational-wave background. The binary neutron star component will add to the contribution from binary black holes, increasing the amplitude of the total astrophysical background relative to previous expectations. In the Advanced LIGO-Virgo frequency band most sensitive to stochastic backgrounds (near 25 Hz), we predict a total astrophysical background with amplitude Ω_{GW}(f=25 Hz)=1.8_{-1.3}^{+2.7}×10^{-9} with 90% confidence, compared with Ω_{GW}(f=25 Hz)=1.1_{-0.7}^{+1.2}×10^{-9} from binary black holes alone. Assuming the most probable rate for compact binary mergers, we find that the total background may be detectable with a signal-to-noise-ratio of 3 after 40 months of total observation time, based on the expected timeline for Advanced LIGO and Virgo to reach their design sensitivity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN), epidermal growth factor receptor is expressed at very high levels. Hence, we have done this study to assess the response and tolerability of cetuximab and platinum-based chemotherapy in recurrent and metastatic (R/M) head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC) in view of paucity of data from the Indian subcontinent. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this prospective study, patients of R/M SCCHN were randomly enrolled from September 2012 to April 2015. Chemotherapy (cisplatin/carboplatin/5-fluorouracil) and cetuximab-based treatment were administered up to 6 cycles or unacceptable toxicity. The response rates (RRs), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. RESULTS In total, fifty patients were enrolled. The median age was 51.0 years. A total of 255 cycles of treatment were administered (median = 6 cycles/patient). Four patients (8.0%) experienced complete response and 21 (42.0%) experienced partial response. Twenty-one patients (42.0%) had stable disease and four patients (8.0%) experienced progressive disease. The disease control rate was 92.0%. Median PFS was 5.3 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.52-6.14 months). Median OS was 9.933 months (95% CI: 8.58-11.28 months). There was statistically significant correlation between overall response and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (P = 0.014), site of tumor (P = 0.027), and histological grade of tumor (P = 0.001). The main Grade 3/4 side effects seen were hematological in 44 (88%) and gastrointestinal in 28 (56%) patients. CONCLUSIONS The RR of cetuximab plus chemotherapy of> 45% and the promising PFS rates are strong arguments for clinically testing this combination and this treatment schedule further in R/M HNSCC.

Abstract
Plant glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are integral to normal plant metabolism and biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. The GST gene family has been characterized in diverse plant species using molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches. In the current study, in silico analysis identified 44 GSTs in Vigna radiata. Of the total 44 GSTs identified, chromosomal locations of 31 GSTs were confirmed. The pI value of GST proteins ranged from 5.10 to 9.40. The predicted molecular weights ranged from 13.12 to 50 kDa. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that all GSTs were predominantly localized in the cytoplasm. The active site amino acids were confirmed to be serine in tau, phi, theta, zeta, and TCHQD; cysteine in lambda, DHAR, and omega; and tyrosine in EF1G. The gene architecture conformed to the two-exon/one-intron and three-exon/two-intron organization in the case of tau and phi classes, respectively. MEME analysis identified 10 significantly conserved motifs with the width of 8-50 amino acids. The motifs identified were either specific to a specific GST class or were shared by multiple GST classes. The results of the current study will be of potential importance in the characterization of the GST gene family in V. radiata, an economically important leguminous crop.

Abstract
Light-absorbing, atmospheric particles have gained greater attention in recent years because of their direct and indirect impacts on regional and global climate. Atmospheric black carbon (BC) aerosol is a leading climate warming agent, yet uncertainties in the global direct aerosol radiative forcing remain large. Based on a year of aerosol absorption measurements at seven wavelengths, BC concentrations were investigated in Dhanbad, the coal capital of India. Coal is routinely burned for cooking and residential heat as well as in small industries. The mean daily concentrations of ultraviolet-absorbing black carbon measured at 370nm (UVBC) and black carbon measured at 880nm (BC) were 9.8±5.7 and 6.5±3.8μgm-3, respectively. The difference between UVBC and BC, Delta-C, is an indicator of biomass or residential coal burning and averaged 3.29±4.61μgm-3. An alternative approach uses the Ǻngstrom Exponent (AE) to estimate the biomass/coal and traffic BC concentrations. Biomass/coal burning contributed ~87% and high temperature, fossil-fuel combustion contributed ~13% to the annual average BC concentration. The post-monsoon seasonal mean UVBC values were 10.9μgm-3 and BC of 7.2μgm-3. Potential source contribution function analysis showed that in the post-monsoon season, air masses came from the central and northwestern Indo-Gangetic Plains where there is extensive agricultural burning. The mean winter UVBC and BC concentrations were 15.0 and 10.1μgm-3, respectively. These higher values were largely produced by local sources under poor dispersion conditions. The direct radiative forcing (DRF) due to UVBC and BC at the surface (SUR) and the top of the atmosphere (TOA) were calculated. The mean atmospheric heating rates due to UVBC and BC were estimated to be 1.40°Kday-1 and 1.18°Kday-1, respectively. This high heating rate may affect the monsoon circulation in this region.

Abstract
We present results from the first directed search for nontensorial gravitational waves. While general relativity allows for tensorial (plus and cross) modes only, a generic metric theory may, in principle, predict waves with up to six different polarizations. This analysis is sensitive to continuous signals of scalar, vector, or tensor polarizations, and does not rely on any specific theory of gravity. After searching data from the first observation run of the advanced LIGO detectors for signals at twice the rotational frequency of 200 known pulsars, we find no evidence of gravitational waves of any polarization. We report the first upper limits for scalar and vector strains, finding values comparable in magnitude to previously published limits for tensor strain. Our results may be translated into constraints on specific alternative theories of gravity.

Abstract
We present possible observing scenarios for the Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo and KAGRA gravitational-wave detectors over the next decade, with the intention of providing information to the astronomy community to facilitate planning for multi-messenger astronomy with gravitational waves. We estimate the sensitivity of the network to transient gravitational-wave signals, and study the capability of the network to determine the sky location of the source. We report our findings for gravitational-wave transients, with particular focus on gravitational-wave signals from the inspiral of binary neutron star systems, which are the most promising targets for multi-messenger astronomy. The ability to localize the sources of the detected signals depends on the geographical distribution of the detectors and their relative sensitivity, and [Formula: see text] credible regions can be as large as thousands of square degrees when only two sensitive detectors are operational. Determining the sky position of a significant fraction of detected signals to areas of 5-[Formula: see text] requires at least three detectors of sensitivity within a factor of [Formula: see text] of each other and with a broad frequency bandwidth. When all detectors, including KAGRA and the third LIGO detector in India, reach design sensitivity, a significant fraction of gravitational-wave signals will be localized to a few square degrees by gravitational-wave observations alone.

Abstract
Enhancement of micronutrient bioavailability is crucial to address the malnutrition in the developing countries. Various approaches employed to address the micronutrient bioavailability are showing promising signs, especially in cereal crops. Phytic acid (PA) is considered as a major antinutrient due to its ability to chelate important micronutrients and thereby restricting their bioavailability. Therefore, manipulating PA biosynthesis pathway has largely been explored to overcome the pleiotropic effect in different crop species. Recently, we reported that functional wheat inositol pentakisphosphate kinase (TaIPK1) is involved in PA biosynthesis, however, the functional roles of the IPK1 gene in wheat remains elusive. In this study, RNAi-mediated gene silencing was performed for IPK1 transcripts in hexaploid wheat. Four non-segregating RNAi lines of wheat were selected for detailed study (S3-D-6-1; S6-K-3-3; S6-K-6-10 and S16-D-9-5). Homozygous transgenic RNAi lines at T4 seeds with a decreased transcript of TaIPK1 showed 28-56% reduction of the PA. Silencing of IPK1 also resulted in increased free phosphate in mature grains. Although, no phenotypic changes in the spike was observed but, lowering of grain PA resulted in the reduced number of seeds per spikelet. The lowering of grain PA was also accompanied by a significant increase in iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) content, thereby enhancing their molar ratios (Zn:PA and Fe:PA). Overall, this work suggests that IPK1 is a promising candidate for employing genome editing tools to address the mineral accumulation in wheat grains.

Abstract
On August 17, 2017 at 12∶41:04 UTC the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors made their first observation of a binary neutron star inspiral. The signal, GW170817, was detected with a combined signal-to-noise ratio of 32.4 and a false-alarm-rate estimate of less than one per 8.0×10^{4} years. We infer the component masses of the binary to be between 0.86 and 2.26 M_{⊙}, in agreement with masses of known neutron stars. Restricting the component spins to the range inferred in binary neutron stars, we find the component masses to be in the range 1.17-1.60 M_{⊙}, with the total mass of the system 2.74_{-0.01}^{+0.04}M_{⊙}. The source was localized within a sky region of 28 deg^{2} (90% probability) and had a luminosity distance of 40_{-14}^{+8} Mpc, the closest and most precisely localized gravitational-wave signal yet. The association with the γ-ray burst GRB 170817A, detected by Fermi-GBM 1.7 s after the coalescence, corroborates the hypothesis of a neutron star merger and provides the first direct evidence of a link between these mergers and short γ-ray bursts. Subsequent identification of transient counterparts across the electromagnetic spectrum in the same location further supports the interpretation of this event as a neutron star merger. This unprecedented joint gravitational and electromagnetic observation provides insight into astrophysics, dense matter, gravitation, and cosmology.
