Abstract
OBJECTIVE Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common cardiac arrhythmia, presents significant health challenges, and the intricate connection between insomnia and AF has garnered substantial attention. This cohort study aims to investigate the relationship between insomnia and AF recurrences following radiofrequency ablation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data were retrieved from an electronic database of patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation for AF. The primary endpoint was AF recurrence. We utilized a multivariable Cox model, coupled with three propensity score methods, for analysis. RESULTS Between January 1, 2017, and June 1, 2022, 541 patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation for AF were recorded in the database. After excluding 185 patients, the final cohort comprised 356 patients. Among them, 68 were afflicted by insomnia, while 288 were not. Over a median follow-up of 755 days, one patient died, and 130 (36.5%) experienced AF recurrence. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that the insomnia group had a higher risk of AF recurrence compared to the non-insomnia group (HR: 1.83, 95% CI: 1.16-2.89). Further landmark analysis showed no significant difference in AF recurrence rates during the initial 1-year follow-up. However, beyond 1 year, the insomnia group demonstrated a significantly higher AF recurrence rate. As the number of insomnia symptoms increased, the risk of AF recurrence also rose significantly, indicating a dose-response relationship. CONCLUSION This study establishes a significant link between insomnia and long-term AF recurrence following radiofrequency ablation. It underscores the importance of identifying and addressing insomnia in patients with AF undergoing radiofrequency ablation.

Abstract
Neuromorphic computing has the potential to achieve the requirements of the next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) systems, due to its advantages of adaptive learning and parallel computing. Meanwhile, biocomputing has seen ongoing development with the rise of synthetic biology, becoming the driving force for new generation semiconductor synthetic biology (SemiSynBio) technologies. DNA-based biomolecules could potentially perform the functions of Boolean operators as logic gates and be used to construct artificial neural networks (ANNs), providing the possibility of executing neuromorphic computing at the molecular level. Herein, we briefly outline the principles of neuromorphic computing, describe the advances in DNA computing with a focus on synthetic neuromorphic computing, and summarize the major challenges and prospects for synthetic neuromorphic computing. We believe that constructing such synthetic neuromorphic circuits will be an important step toward realizing neuromorphic computing, which would be of widespread use in biocomputing, DNA storage, information security, and national defense.

Abstract
Bacterial infections are the primary causes of infectious diseases in humans. In recent years, the abuse of antibiotics has led to the widespread enhancement of bacterial resistance. Concerns have been raised about the identification of a common treatment platform for bacterial infections. In this study, a composite nanomaterial was used for near-infrared II (NIR-II) photothermal antibacterial treatment. Red blood cell membrane was peeled and coated onto the surface of the Au/polydopamine nanoparticle-containing aptamer. The composite nanomaterials based on Au/polydopamine exhibit highest photothermal conversion capability. Moreover, these assembled nanoparticles can quickly enter the body's circular system with a specific capability to recognise bacteria. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the composites could kill bacteria from infected blood while significantly reducing the level of bacteria in various organs. Such assemblies offer a paradigm for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by the side effects of antibiotics.

Abstract
Dnttip2 is one of the components of the small subunit (SSU) processome. In yeast, depletion of dnttip2 leads to an inefficient processing of pre-rRNA and a decrease in synthesis of the mature 18S rRNA. However, the biological roles of Dnttip2 in higher organisms are poorly defined. In this study, we demonstrate that dnttip2 is a maternal gene in zebrafish. Depletion of Dnttip2 leads to embryonic lethal with severe digestive organs hypoplasia. The loss of function of Dnttip2 also leads to partial defects in cleavage at the A0-site and E-site during 18S rRNA processing. In conclusion, Dnttip2 is essential for 18S rRNA processing and digestive organ development in zebrafish.

Abstract
Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a common pathological process during hepatectomy and liver transplantation and the two primary reasons for hepatic IRI are reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated oxidative stress and excessive inflammatory responses. Herein, a novel antioxidant nanodrug (A-MPDA@Fe3O4@PVP) is prepared by employing L-arginine-doped mesoporous polydopamine (A-MPDA) nanoparticles as the carrier for deposition of ultra-small ferric oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles and further surface modification with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). A-MPDA@Fe3O4@PVP not only effectively reduces the aggregation of ultra-small Fe3O4, but also simultaneously replicates the catalytic activity of catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). A-MPDA@Fe3O4@PVP with good antioxidant activity can rapidly remove various toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) and effectively regulate macrophage polarization in vitro. In the treatment of hepatic IRI, A-MPDA@Fe3O4@PVP effectively alleviates ROS-induced oxidative stress, reduces the expression of inflammatory factors, and prevents apoptosis of hepatocytes through immune regulation. A-MPDA@Fe3O4@PVP can further protect liver tissue by activating the PPARγ/NF-κB pathway. This multiplex antioxidant enzyme therapy can provide new references for the treatment of IRI in organ transplantation and other ROS-related injuries such as fibrosis, cirrhosis, and bacterial and hepatic viral infection.

Abstract
Computer-aided promoter design is a major development trend in synthetic promoter engineering. Various deep learning models have been used to evaluate or screen synthetic promoters, but there have been few works on de novo promoter design. To explore the potential ability of generative models in promoter design, we established a diffusion-based generative model for promoter design in Escherichia coli. The model was completely driven by sequence data and could study the essential characteristics of natural promoters, thus generating synthetic promoters similar to natural promoters in structure and component. We also improved the calculation method of FID indicator, using a convolution layer to extract the feature matrix of the promoter sequence instead. As a result, we got an FID equal to 1.37, which meant synthetic promoters have a distribution similar to that of natural ones. Our work provides a fresh approach to de novo promoter design, indicating that a completely data-driven generative model is feasible for promoter design.

Abstract
Objectives The positive effects of tea on Alzheimer's disease (AD) have increasingly captured researchers' attention. Nevertheless, the quantitative comprehensive analysis in the relevant literatur is lack. This paper aims to thoroughly examine the current research status and hotspots from 2014 to 2023, providing a valuable reference for subsequent research. Methods Documents spanning from 2014 to 2023 were searched from the Web of Science, and the R software, VOSviewer, and Citespace software were used for analysis and visualization. Results A total of 374 documents were contained in the study. The rate of article publications exhibited a consistent increase each year from 2014 to 2023. Notably, China emerged as the leading country in terms of published articles, followed by the United States and India. Simultaneously, China is also in a leading position in cooperation with other countries. Molecules emerged as the most frequently published journal, while the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease secured the top spot in terms of citations. The identified main keywords included oxidative stress, amyloid, epigallocatechin gallate, and green tea polyphenol, among others. These focal areas delved into the antioxidative and anti-amyloid aggregation actions of tea's polyphenolic components. Furthermore, the particularly way in which epigallocatechin gallate delivers neuroprotective outcomes by influencing molecules related to AD represents a focal point of research. Conclusion The increasing attention from researchers on the role of tea in ameliorating AD positions it as a hot spot in the development of anti-AD drugs in the development of future. Through our generalized analysis of the current landscape and hotspots regarding tea's application in AD, this study provides an estimable reference for future research endeavors.

Abstract
Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy shows impressive efficacy treating hematologic malignancies but requires further optimization in solid tumors. Here, we developed a TMIGD2 optimized potent/persistent (TOP) CAR that incorporated the costimulatory domain of TMIGD2, a T and NK cell costimulator, and monoclonal antibodies targeting the IgV domain of B7-H3, an immune checkpoint expressed on solid tumors and tumor vasculature. Comparing second- and third-generation B7-H3 CARs containing TMIGD2, CD28, and/or 4-1BB costimulatory domains revealed superior antitumor responses in B7-H3.TMIGD2 and B7-H3.CD28.4-1BB CAR-T cells in vitro. Comparing these two constructs using in vivo orthotopic human cancer models demonstrated that B7-H3.TMIGD2 CAR-T cells had equivalent or superior antitumor activity, survival, expansion, and persistence. Mechanistically, B7-H3.TMIGD2 CAR-T cells maintained mitochondrial metabolism; produced less cytokines; and established fewer exhausted cells, more central memory cells, and a larger CD8/CD4 T cell ratio. These studies demonstrate that the TOP CAR with TMIGD2 costimulation offered distinct benefits from CD28.41BB costimulation and is effective against solid tumors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accessory auricle is a common congenital abnormal auricular appendage with various forms of presentation. The authors proposed a practical classification system based on the involved anatomical subunits (tragus, the anterior notch and the intertragal notch) and described the corresponding surgical procedures. METHODS The authors reviewed and analyzed 80 patients (96 ears) who underwent accessory auricle excisions form January 2018 to December 2021. Accessory auricles were classified into three categories: simple (no deformed subunits), complex (several deformed subunits) and compound (coexistence of simple and complex type). The complex type was subclassified into notch and tragal subtypes. The tragal subtype was subclassified into subtype A, B and C, according to the location, contour and size of the involved tragus. Surgical methods were described, and postoperative outcomes were assessed. RESULTS Simple type was the most common type (54%) and compound type was less common (15%). In addition, there were 28 (29%) tragal subtype accessory auricles and 2 (2%) notch subtype. Among the tragal subtype, A was the most commonly observed (25%), followed by B (2%) and C (2%). Patients were followed for an average of 11.3 months. One patient experienced delayed wound healing and 6 patients showed hypertrophic scars. The average aesthetic score, evaluated by a 4-point Likert scale (1 = poor, 2 = fair, 3 = good, 4 = excellent), was 3.67 ± 0.06 points. The OSAS and PSAS scores were 9.29 ± 0.44 and 10.84 ± 0.40, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The innovative classification system of accessory auricles can reflect whether there was a combined deformity and the deformed subunits, and guide decisions on surgical approaches. Abstract
PURPOSE Post-neurosurgical intracranial infection caused by carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria (CRGNB) is a life-threatening complication. This study aimed to assess the current practices and clinical outcomes of intravenous (IV) combined with intraventricular (IVT)/intrathecal (ITH) polymyxin B in treating CRGNB intracranial infection. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on patients with post-neurosurgical intracranial infection due to CRGNB from January 2013 to December 2020. Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes were collected and described. Kaplan-Meier survival and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. RESULTS The study included 114 patients, of which 72 received systemic antimicrobial therapy combined with IVT/ITH polymyxin B, and 42 received IV administration alone. Most infections were caused by carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB, 63.2%), followed by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP, 31.6%). Compared with the IV group, the IVT/ITH group had a higher cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sterilization rate in 7 days (p < 0.001) and lower 30-day mortality (p = 0.032). In the IVT/ITH group, patients with CRKP infection had a higher initial fever (p = 0.014), higher incidence of bloodstream infection (p = 0.040), lower CSF sterilization in 7 days (p < 0.001), and higher 30-day mortality (p = 0.005) than those with CRAB infection. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the duration of IVT/ITH polymyxin B (p = 0.021) was independently associated with 30-day mortality. CONCLUSIONS Intravenous combined with IVT/ITH polymyxin B increased CSF microbiological eradication and improved clinical outcomes. CRKP intracranial infections may lead to more difficult treatment and thus warrant attention and further optimized treatment.

Abstract
Background Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) or its earlier stage Acute lung injury (ALI), is a worldwide health concern that jeopardizes human well-being. Currently, the treatment strategies to mitigate the incidence and mortality of ARDS are severely restricted. This limitation can be attributed, at least in part, to the substantial variations in immunity observed in individuals with this syndrome. Methods Bulk and single cell RNA sequencing from ALI mice and single cell RNA sequencing from ARDS patients were analyzed. We utilized the Seurat program package in R and cellmarker 2.0 to cluster and annotate the data. The differential, enrichment, protein interaction, and cell-cell communication analysis were conducted. Results The mice with ALI caused by pulmonary and extrapulmonary factors demonstrated differential expression including Clec4e, Retnlg, S100a9, Coro1a, and Lars2. We have determined that inflammatory factors have a greater significance in extrapulmonary ALI, while multiple pathways collaborate in the development of pulmonary ALI. Clustering analysis revealed significant heterogeneity in the relative abundance of immune cells in different ALI models. The autocrine action of neutrophils plays a crucial role in pulmonary ALI. Additionally, there was a significant increase in signaling intensity between B cells and M1 macrophages, NKT cells and M1 macrophages in extrapulmonary ALI. The CXCL, CSF3 and MIF, TGFβ signaling pathways play a vital role in pulmonary and extrapulmonary ALI, respectively. Moreover, the analysis of human single-cell revealed DCs signaling to monocytes and neutrophils in COVID-19-associated ARDS is stronger compared to sepsis-related ARDS. In sepsis-related ARDS, CD8+ T and Th cells exhibit more prominent signaling to B-cell nucleated DCs. Meanwhile, both MIF and CXCL signaling pathways are specific to sepsis-related ARDS. Conclusion This study has identified specific gene signatures and signaling pathways in animal models and human samples that facilitate the interaction between immune cells, which could be targeted therapeutically in ARDS patients of various etiologies.

Abstract
This paper investigates the impact mechanism by which an incentive-based fertility policy may reduce the labor income share. First, the specific paths through which this impact mechanism is realized are analyzed using the production function. It is found that an incentive-based fertility policy triggers high savings, which implies more, cheaper, and more readily available capital to be invested in production. A distribution system that earns income based on factor contributions results in more gains for capital than labor, i.e., a lower share of labor income and a wider income gap between labor and capital. Second, the impact mechanism includes three theoretical hypotheses. They are that an encouraging fertility policy is negatively related to labor income share; this relationship is valid provided that the study subject is in a closed economy; and that capital intensification is a mediator variable of fertility policy affecting labor income share. Finally, to further corroborate the impact mechanism in this paper, a Hansen threshold panel model is applied to verify that the effect of fertility policy on labor income share has a threshold effect. This indicates that the effect of the former on the latter changes significantly before and after the change in fertility policy, confirming the existence of an impact mechanism. The established literature has paid little attention to the impact of incentivised fertility policies on the labour income gap. Using capital intensification as the mediating variable, this paper demonstrates the existence of the former effect on the latter. In view of this, under the encouraged fertility policy, this paper proposes specific measures to enhance the labor income share in order to narrow the income gap between labor and capital.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by the accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques in the brain. Aβ1-42 is the main component of Aβ plaque, which is toxic to neuronal cells. Si nanowires (Si NWs) have the advantages of small particle size, high specific surface area, and good biocompatibility, and have potential application prospects in suppressing Aβ aggregation. In this study, we employed the vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth mechanism to grow Si NWs using Au nanoparticles as catalysts in a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system. Subsequently, these Si NWs were transferred to a phosphoric acid buffer solution (PBS). We found that Si NWs significantly reduced cell death in PC12 cells (rat adrenal pheochromocytoma cells) induced by Aβ1-42 oligomers via double staining with 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and fluorescein diacetate/propyl iodide (FDA/PI). Most importantly, pre-incubated Si NWs largely prevented Aβ1-42 oligomer-induced PC12 cell death, suggesting that Si NWs exerts an anti-Aβ neuroprotective effect by inhibiting Aβ aggregation. The analysis of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) results demonstrates that Si NWs reduce the toxicity of fibrils and oligomers by intervening in the formation of β-sheet structures, thereby protecting the viability of nerve cells. Our findings suggest that Si NWs may be a potential therapeutic agent for AD by protecting neuronal cells from the toxicity of Aβ1-42.

Abstract
PURPOSE Despite chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has achieved great advances in recent year, approximately 50% of relapsed/refractory B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (r/r B-ALL) patients treated with CAR-T experience relapse 6 months post CAR-T treatment. CD20 express on 30 to 50% of B-ALL, which makes CD20 Monoclonal Antibody as one of the potential therapy strategies to decrease the tumor burden and improve the efficacy of CAR-T therapy. Adding Rituximab to chemotherapy protocol had been demonstrated to improve the outcome for CD20-positive ALL. However, rare study explored the influence of Rituximab combined with CAR-T therapy. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 20 r/r B-ALL patients who received CAR-T therapy, all of whom had failed multiple lines of therapy. Before CAR-T infusion, we administered Rituximab to 10 patients with high CD20 expression at a dose of 375 mg/m2 for 1 day. Meanwhile, we selected 10 patients with the comparable features who underwent CAR-T treatment without Rituximab in the same period as the control group. In vitro, the surface molecule expression and killing of CAR-T post Rituximab-treated B-ALL cells co-incubated with CAR-T cells were detected by flow cytometry. RESULTS The median follow-up of Rituximab and Control groups were 29.27 and 9.83 months. We found that adding Rituximab may confer a favorable prognosis compared with Control group. The 2-year overall survival (OS) and leukemia-free survival (LFS) rates both were longer in the Rituximab group (90% vs. 26.7%, p = 0.0342; 41.7% vs. 25%, p = 0.308). In vitro, we observed that Rituximab-treated tumour cells are more sensitive to CAR-T killing and a broad range of cytokines and chemokines were produced when Rituximab-treated Nalm-6 cells co-cultured with 19-22CAR-T cells, such as interferon-γ (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-2 (IL-2). To investigate whether Rituximab has an effect on CAR-T persistence, we stimulated CAR-T cells repeatedly in vitro with Rituximab-treated Nalm-6 to evaluate the changes in CAR-T surface exhaustion molecules at different times. We found that the expression of exhaustion molecules (LAG-3, PD-1, TIM-3) on CAR-T cells were significantly lower in the Rituximab group than in the Control group. CONCLUSION Rituximab combined with CAR-T therapy is effective for improving the long-term prognosis of B-ALL patients who have failed multiple lines of therapy. In vitro, we observed that rituximab potentially improves CAR-T efficacy by sensitizing ALL to CART-mediated cytotoxicity and reducing CAR-T exhaustion.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Photon-counting computed tomography (Photon counting CT) utilizes photon-counting detectors to precisely count incident photons and measure their energy. These detectors, compared to traditional energy integration detectors, provide better image contrast and material differentiation. However, Photon counting CT tends to show more noticeable ring artifacts due to limited photon counts and detector response variations, unlike conventional spiral CT. OBJECTIVE To comprehensively address this issue, we propose a novel feature shared multi-decoder network (FSMDN) that utilizes complementary learning to suppress ring artifacts in Photon counting CT images. METHODS Specifically, we employ a feature-sharing encoder to extract context and ring artifact features, facilitating effective feature sharing. These shared features are also independently processed by separate decoders dedicated to the context and ring artifact channels, working in parallel. Through complementary learning, this approach achieves superior performance in terms of artifact suppression while preserving tissue details. RESULTS We conducted numerous experiments on Photon counting CT images with three-intensity ring artifacts. Both qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate that our network model performs exceptionally well in correcting ring artifacts at different levels while exhibiting superior stability and robustness compared to the comparison methods. CONCLUSIONS In this paper, we have introduced a novel deep learning network designed to mitigate ring artifacts in Photon counting CT images. The results illustrate the viability and efficacy of our proposed network model as a new deep learning-based method for suppressing ring artifacts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The course of organ dysfunction (OD) in Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients is unknown. Herein, we analyze the temporal patterns of OD in intensive care unit-admitted COVID-19 patients. METHODS Sequential organ failure assessment scores were evaluated daily within 2 weeks of admission to determine the temporal trajectory of OD using group-based multitrajectory modeling (GBMTM). RESULTS A total of 392 patients were enrolled with a 28-day mortality rate of 53.6%. GBMTM identified four distinct trajectories. Group 1 (mild OD, n = 64), with a median APACHE II score of 13 (IQR 9-21), had an early resolution of OD and a low mortality rate. Group 2 (moderate OD, n = 140), with a median APACHE II score of 18 (IQR 13-22), had a 28-day mortality rate of 30.0%. Group 3 (severe OD, n = 117), with a median APACHR II score of 20 (IQR 13-27), had a deterioration trend of respiratory dysfunction and a 28-day mortality rate of 69.2%. Group 4 (extremely severe OD, n = 71), with a median APACHE II score of 20 (IQR 17-27), had a significant and sustained OD affecting all organ systems and a 28-day mortality rate of 97.2%. CONCLUSIONS Four distinct trajectories of OD were identified, and respiratory dysfunction trajectory could predict nonpulmonary OD trajectories and patient prognosis.

Abstract
This study describes a patient with an intradural extramedullary (IDEM) tumor removed entirely using the unilateral biportal endoscopic technique (UBE), achieving satisfactory clinical outcomes. A 60-year-old woman had a diagnosis of meningioma with sensations and motor dysfunction in the lower extremities and perineum and gait disturbances for three years, which has worsened over the last month. Preoperative imaging data showed a sizeable IDEM tumor at the T10 level, significantly compressing the thoracic spinal cord to the right side, with 80% intraspinal encroachment. The IDEM tumor was removed entirely by UBE surgery. To the best of our knowledge, this study may be the first to report the application of UBE techniques for IDEM tumor treatment. In this case, UBE provides a magnified and clear surgical field, greater maneuverability, and a less invasive surgical procedure. The procedure objectives were pathological confirmation, spinal cord decompression, and complete tumor removal; all were met. The patient was satisfied with her dramatically improved clinical symptoms. UBE may be an alternative surgical treatment option for benign IDEM tumors presenting with symptomatic, especially the non-giant lateral and posterior tumors.

Abstract
This study investigated the reaction mechanism of aluminum-magnesium (Al-Mg) alloy particles with water (Al-Mg/H2O) through thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry experiments and kinetic analysis using isoconversional methods and the master plot technique to determine the reaction mechanism function, with the aim of providing insights to support metal powder/water ramjet engine design and combustion characteristics. The results showed that the Al-Mg/H2O reaction occurred in two distinct stages, with stage 1 primarily involving the reaction of Mg elements in the L(Al-Mg) alloy with water while Al played a leading role in stage 2. Notably, the reaction temperatures of Al-Mg particles were significantly lower than those for either Al or Mg particles alone in a water vapor environment. Additionally, the activation energy of stage 1 was lower than that for the individual Al and Mg particles and decreased with increasing Mg content in stage 2. Furthermore, the concentration of Mg in the alloy was found to have a major influence on the reaction mechanism, which followed a random nucleation and growth model. Overall, this work elucidated an alternating endothermic and exothermic staged reaction process for Al-Mg/H2O dominated first by Mg and then Al with kinetic insights providing theoretical support for optimizing Al-Mg alloy compositions for improved ignition and combustion performance in metal powder/water ramjet engines.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia and presents a considerable disease burden. Its pathology involves substantial neuronal loss, primarily attributed to neuronal apoptosis. Although sirtuin 4 (SIRT4) has been implicated in regulating apoptosis in various diseases, the role of SIRT4 in AD pathology remains unclear. The study employed APP/PS1 mice as an animal model of AD and amyloid-β (Aβ)1-42-treated HT-22 cells as an AD cell model. SIRT4 expression was determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, western blot, and immunofluorescence. A Sirt4 knockdown model was established by intracranial injection of lentivirus-packaged sh-SIRT4 and cellular lentivirus transfection. Immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry were used to examine Aβ deposition in mice and apoptosis, respectively. Protein expression was assessed by western blot analysis. The UCSC and JASPAR databases were used to predict upstream transcription factors of SIRT4. Subsequently, the binding of transcription factors to SIRT4 was analyzed using a dual-luciferase assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation. SIRT4 expression was upregulated in both APP/PS1 mice and Aβ-treated HT-22 cells in comparison to their respective control groups. Sirt4 knockdown in animal and cellular models of AD resulted in reduced apoptosis, decreased Aβ deposition, and amelioration of learning and memory impairments in mice. Mechanistically, SIRT4 modulates apoptosis via the mTOR pathway and is negatively regulated by the transcription factor signal transducer and activator of transcription 2 (STAT2). Our study findings suggest that targeting the STAT2-SIRT4-mTOR axis may offer a new treatment approach for AD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The harmonization status of most tumor markers (TMs) is unknown. We report a feasibility study performed to determine whether external quality assessment (EQA) programs can be used to obtain insights into the current harmonization status of the tumor markers α-fetoprotein (AFP), prostate specific antigen (PSA), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cancer antigen (CA)125, CA15-3 and CA19-9. METHODS EQA sample results provided by 6 EQA providers (INSTAND [Germany], Korean Association of External Quality Assessment Service [KEQAS, South Korea], National Center for Clinical Laboratories [NCCL, China], United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Service [UK NEQAS, United Kingdom], Stichting Kwaliteitsbewaking Medische Laboratoriumdiagnostiek [SKML, the Netherlands], and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia Quality Assurance Programs [RCPAQAP, Australia]) between 2020 and 2021 were used. The consensus means, calculated from the measurement procedures present in all EQA programs (Abbott Alinity, Beckman Coulter DxI, Roche Cobas, and Siemens Atellica), was used as reference values. Per measurement procedure, the relative difference between consensus mean for each EQA sample and the mean of all patient-pool-based EQA samples were calculated and compared to minimum, desirable, and optimal allowable bias criteria based on biological variation. RESULTS Between 19040 (CA15-3) and 25398 (PSA) individual results and 56 (PSA) to 76 (AFP) unique EQA samples were included in the final analysis. The mean differences with the consensus mean of patient-pool-based EQA samples for all measurement procedures were within the optimum bias criterion for AFP, the desirable bias for PSA, and the minimum bias criterion for CEA. However, CEA results <8 µg/L exceeded the minimum bias criterion. For CA125, CA15-3, and CA19-9, the harmonization status was outside the minimum bias criterion, with systematic differences identified. CONCLUSIONS This study provides relevant information about the current harmonization status of 6 tumor markers. A pilot harmonization investigation for CEA, CA125, CA15-3, and CA19-9 would be desirable.

Abstract
Spinal cord injury (SCI) treatment remains a major challenge. Spinal motor neurons (MNs) are seriously injured in the early stage after SCI, but this has not received sufficient attention. Oxidative stress is known to play a crucial role in SCI pathology. Our studies demonstrated that oxidative stress can cause severe damage to the cytoskeleton of spinal MNs. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been shown to have beneficial effects on SCI, but the mechanism remains unclear, and no study has investigated the effect of DHA on oxidative stress-induced spinal MN injury. Here, we investigated the effect of DHA on spinal MN injury through in vivo and in vitro experiments, focusing on the cytoskeleton. We found that DHA not only promoted spinal MN survival but, more importantly, alleviated the severe cytoskeletal destruction of these neurons induced by oxidative stress in vitro and in mice with SCI in vivo. In addition, the mechanisms involved were investigated and elucidated. These results not only suggested a beneficial role of DHA in spinal MN cytoskeletal destruction caused by oxidative stress and SCI but also indicated the important role of the spinal MN cytoskeleton in the recovery of motor function after SCI. Our study provides new insights for the formulation of SCI treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate the feasibility of Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging (DKI) in assessing renal interstitial fibrosis induced by hyperuricemia. METHODS A hyperuricemia rat model was established, and the rats were randomly split into the hyperuricemia (HUA), allopurinol (AP), and AP + empagliflozin (AP + EM) groups (n = 19 per group). Also, the normal rats were selected as controls (CON, n = 19). DKI was performed before treatment (baseline) and on days 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 days after treatment. The DKI indicators, including mean kurtosis (MK), fractional anisotropy (FA), and mean diffusivity (MD) of the cortex (CO), outer stripe of the outer medulla (OS), and inner stripe of the outer medulla (IS) were acquired. Additionally, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, Masson trichrome staining, and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) immunostaining were used to reveal renal histopathological changes at baseline, 1, 5, and 9 days after treatment. RESULTS The HUA, AP, and AP + EM group MKOS and MKIS values gradually increased during this study. The HUA group exhibited the highest MK value in outer medulla. Except for the CON group, all the groups showed a decreasing trend in the FA and MD values of outer medulla. The HUA group exhibited the lowest FA and MD values. The MKOS and MKIS values were positively correlated with Masson's trichrome staining results (r = 0.687, P < 0.001 and r = 0.604, P = 0.001, respectively). The MDOS and FAIS were negatively correlated with Masson's trichrome staining (r = -626, P < 0.0014 and r = -0.468, P = 0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION DKI may be a non-invasive method for monitoring renal interstitial fibrosis induced by hyperuricemia.

Abstract
In this study, the organosilane nanoparticles as additive and crosslinker were prepared and incorporated into sodium alginate to fabricate a series of alginate-based multi-crosslinked biomembranes at different thermal treatment temperature without the usage of another crosslinking agent. The effects of treatment temperature on the stability of biomembranes including dimensional, oxidative, hydrolytic and mechanical stability were investigated in detail. As a whole, the stability of biomembranes exhibited increasing tendency with the increment of treatment temperature due to the formation of more compact internal network structure. The electrochemical performance of biomembranes in respect to their potential as proton exchange membranes for direct methanol fuel cell application were also investigated based on the treatment temperature. The results revealed that the biomembranes possessed excellent methanol resistance and the methanol diffusion coefficient decreased with the increment of treatment temperature. The biomembrane with 120 °C heat-treatment showed the optimal selectivity (14.30 × 105 Ss cm-3), which was about 1.77 and 68.10 times of that and of M-80 (8.09 × 105 Ss cm-3) and Nafion@117 (0.21 × 105 Ss cm-3), respectively. Fuel cell performance measurements showed that M-120 possessed higher maximum power density and cell stability compared with M-80 and Nafion@117, indicating its best adaptability for use in direct methanol fuel cell.

Abstract
The coupling between resting-state cerebral blood flow (CBF) and blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) signals reflects the mechanism of neurovascular coupling (NVC), which have not been illustrated in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Fifty ADHD and 42 age- and gender-matched typically developing controls (TDs) were enrolled. The NVC imaging metrics were investigated by exploring the Pearson correlation coefficients between CBF and BOLD-derived quantitative maps (ALFF, fALFF, DCP maps). Three types of NVC metrics (CBF-ALFF, CBF-fALFF, CBF-DCP coupling) were compared between ADHD and TDs group, and the inner association between altered NVC metrics and clinical variables in ADHD group was further analyzed. Compared to TDs, ADHD showed significantly reduced whole-brain CBF-ALFF coupling (P < 0.001). Among regional level (all PFDR < 0.05), ADHD showed significantly lower CBF-ALFF coupling in bilateral thalamus, default-mode network (DMN) involving left anterior cingulate (ACG.L) and right parahippocampal gyrus (PHG.R), execution control network (ECN) involving right middle orbital frontal gyrus (ORBmid.R) and right inferior frontal triangular gyrus (IFGtriang.R), and increased CBF-ALFF coupling in attention network (AN)-related left superior temporal gyrus (STG.L) and somatosensory network (SSN))-related left rolandic operculum (ROL.L). Furthermore, increased CBF-fALFF coupling was found in the visual network (VN)-related left cuneus and negatively correlated with the concentration index of ADHD (R = - 0.299, PFDR = 0.035). Abnormal regional NVC metrics were at widespread neural networks in ADHD, mainly involved in DMN, ECN, SSN, AN, VN and bilateral thalamus. Notably, this study reinforced the insights into the neural basis and pathophysiological mechanism underlying ADHD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of blood pressure on the severity and functional recovery of patients with acute cervical spinal cord injury (SCI) without fracture and dislocation. METHODS A retrospective case control study analyzed the data of 40 patients admitted to our orthopedics department (Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University) from January 2013 to February 2021. They were diagnosed as acute cervical SCI without fracture and dislocation. Gender, age, height, weight, history of hypertension, postinjury American Spinal Injury Association grade, postinjury modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) score, postoperative mJOA score, 1-year follow-up mJOA score, preoperative mean arterial pressure (MAP), intramedullary T2 hyperintensity, and hyponatremia were collected. The patients were divided into groups and subgroups based on their history of hypertension and preoperative MAP. The effects of history of hypertension and preoperative MAP on the incidence of T2 hyperintensity, hyponatremia, the improvement rate of the postoperative mJOA and 1-year follow-up mJOA scores were analyzed. RESULTS Patients with history of hypertension had a lower incidence of intramedullary T2 hyperintensity than patients without history of hypertension (P < 0.05). Patients with history of hypertension and patients with a higher preoperative MAP had better neurological recovery at 1 year of follow-up (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Blood pressure has great influence on acute cervical SCI without fracture and dislocation. Maintaining a higher preoperative MAP is advantageous for better recovery after SCI. Attention should be paid to the dynamic management of blood pressure to avoid the adverse effects of hypotension after SCI.

Abstract
The disintegration of red-bed soft rock exhibits a strong correlation with various geological disasters. However, the investigation into the evolutionary mechanisms underlying disintegration breakage has not yet received extensive exploration. In order to comprehensively examine the disintegration characteristics of red-bed soft rock, the slake durability tests were conducted to red-bed soft rocks of varying burial depths. Subsequently, an investigation was carried out to examine the disintegration characteristics and the evolution of disintegration parameters, including the coefficient of uniformity (Cu), coefficient of curvature (Cc), disintegration rate (DRE), disintegration ratio (Dr), and fractal dimension (D), throughout the disintegration process. Finally, employing the energy dissipation theory, an energy dissipation model was developed to predicate the disintegration process of samples at various burial depths. The findings demonstrate a decrease in the abundance of large particles and a concurrent increase in the abundance of small particles as the number of drying-wetting cycles increases. Furthermore, as the number of drying-wetting cycles increases, a significant alteration is observed in the content of particles larger than 10 mm, whereas the content of particles smaller than 10 mm undergoes only minor changes. The disintegration parameters, including the curvature coefficient, non-uniformity coefficient, disintegration rate, and fractal dimension, exhibit a positive correlation with the number of drying-wetting cycles. Conversely, the disintegration index demonstrates a decreasing trend with the increasing number of cycles. Nevertheless, as the burial depth increases, a notable trend emerges in the disintegration process, characterized by a gradual increase in the content of large particles alongside a progressive decrease in the content of small particles. Concurrently, the curvature coefficient, non-uniformity coefficient, disintegration rate, and fractal dimension exhibit a gradual decline, while the durability index experiences a gradual increase. In addition, based on the principle of energy dissipation, it is revealed that the surface energy increment of red-bed soft rock increases with the increase of the number of drying-wetting cycles, but decreases with the increase of burial depth. Ultimately, by leveraging the outcomes of energy dissipation analyses, a theoretical model is constructed to elucidate the correlation between surface energy and both the number of drying-wetting cycles and burial depth. This model serves as a theoretical reference for predicting the disintegration behavior of samples, offering valuable insights for future research endeavors.

Abstract
Post-operative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a multi-etiological symptom mainly occurred in elderly people after surgery. The activation of retinoic acid receptor α (RARα), a transcriptional factor, was previously predicated to be negatively associated with the occurrence of POCD. However, the mechanisms underlying anti-POCD effects of RARα were still unclear. In this study, AM580, a selective agonist of RARα, and all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), a pan agonist of RAR, significantly alleviated cognitive dysfunction and increased the expression of RARα in elderly mice after surgery, which was decreased by RO41-5253, an antagonist of RARα. A bioinformatic study further predicted that the activation of RARα might produce anti-POCD effects via the restoration of synaptic proteins. Both agonists inhibited the expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor 88 (Myd88) and the phosphorylation of nuclear factorkappa-B (NF-κB), leading to the prevention of microglial over-activation and pro-inflammatory cytokines secretion in the hippocampal regions of elderly mice after surgery. Moreover, AM580 and ATRA increased the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD95), and the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and cAMP-response element binding protein (CREB). All these results suggested that the activation of RARα prevented surgery-induced cognitive impairments via the inhibition of neuroinflammation by the reduction of the TLR4/Myd88/NF-κB pathway and the restoration of synaptic proteins by the activation of the BDNF/ERK/CREB pathway, providing a further support that RARα could be developed as a therapeutic target for POCD.

Abstract
Diminished hepatocyte regeneration is a key feature of acute and chronic liver diseases and after extended liver resections, resulting in the inability to maintain or restore a sufficient functional liver mass. Therapies to restore hepatocyte regeneration are lacking, making liver transplantation the only curative option for end-stage liver disease. Here, we report on the structure-based development and characterization (nuclear magnetic resonance [NMR] spectroscopy) of first-in-class small molecule inhibitors of the dual-specificity kinase MKK4 (MKK4i). MKK4i increased liver regeneration upon hepatectomy in murine and porcine models, allowed for survival of pigs in a lethal 85% hepatectomy model, and showed antisteatotic and antifibrotic effects in liver disease mouse models. A first-in-human phase I trial (European Union Drug Regulating Authorities Clinical Trials [EudraCT] 2021-000193-28) with the clinical candidate HRX215 was conducted and revealed excellent safety and pharmacokinetics. Clinical trials to probe HRX215 for prevention/treatment of liver failure after extensive oncological liver resections or after transplantation of small grafts are warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Conchal cartilage is generally favored in rhinoplasty with a satisfied aesthetic outcome. However, patients may suffer from postoperative donor auricle deformities. OBJECTIVES This study introduced a novel conchal cartilage harvesting technique which can minimize the deformity of auricle and harvest the sufficient amounts of grafts. METHODS This study proposed preservation of the concha cymba and cavum support structures to minimize the deformity of auricle and harvest of cartilage hidden in the craniofacial region to obtain the sufficient amounts. The medical records of 60 patients who underwent the novel conchal cartilage harvesting were reviewed retrospectively. Postoperative aesthetic outcomes were assessed by comparing pre- and postoperative photographs according to the deformation extent of auricular subunits (cymba concha, cavum concha, antihelix, helix crus and intertragal notch) on a four-point Likert scale. Additionally, function and complications were analyzed. RESULTS 56 patients performed unilateral conchal cartilage harvesting (8 with right-side and 48 with left-side) and 4 performed bilateral harvesting. The average aesthetic score, rated on a four-point Likert scale (1 = significant deformation, 2 = moderated deformation, 3 = slight deformation, 4 = complete no deformation), were 3.83 ± 0.03 points, respectively. The functional scores, rated on a four-point Likert scale (1 = significant damage, 2 = moderated damage, 3 = slight damage, 4 = complete no damage), was 3.94±0.03. Complications included hematoma, delayed wound healing and hypopigmentated scar in six ears (9.4%). CONCLUSIONS This novel technique can minimize the deformity of auricle, as shown by the outcome scores, and allows for sufficient amount of grafting material acquired. Abstract
In this paper, a heating strategy using high-frequency alternating current (AC) is proposed to internally heat lithium-ion batteries (LIB) at low temperatures. The strategy aims to strike a good balance between rapid heating of the battery at low temperatures and minimizing damage to the battery's lifespan without the need for an additional power source. The strategy presents an electrochemical-thermal coupling model to simulate and predict the temperature rise and temperature distribution of a 50 A h LiFePO4 square battery at different C-rates, the effect of high-frequency AC on battery life, and the validity of the model as verified by experiments. The experimental and simulation results show that this strategy can achieve faster heating speeds and better temperature consistency without affecting battery life. The best heating effect can be achieved at a frequency of 500 Hz (4.2C), and the temperature of the battery rises from 253.15 to 278.15 K within 365 s, for an average heating rate of 3.29 K/min. Researching low-temperature AC heating methods has important value for energy conservation because it can improve heating efficiency, expand application areas, promote technological innovation, and enhance product quality.

Abstract
We combine parametric frequency upconversion with the single-photon counting technology to achieve terahertz (THz) detection sensitivity down to the zeptojoule (zJ) pulse energy level. Our detection scheme employs a near-infrared ultrafast source, a GaP nonlinear crystal, optical filters, and a single-photon avalanche diode. This configuration is able to resolve 1.4 zJ (1.4 × 10-21 J) THz pulse energy, corresponding to 1.5 photons per pulse, when the signal is averaged within only 1 s (or 50,000 pulses). A single THz pulse can also be detected when its energy is above 1185 zJ. These numbers correspond to the noise-equivalent power and THz-to-NIR photon detection efficiency of 1.3 × 10-16 W/Hz1/2 and 5.8 × 10-2%, respectively. To test our scheme, we perform spectroscopy of the water vapor between 1 and 3.7 THz and obtain results that are in agreement with those acquired with a standard electro-optic sampling (EOS) method. Our technique provides a 0.2 THz spectral resolution offering a fast alternative to EOS THz detection for monitoring specific spectral components in spectroscopy, imaging, and communication applications.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics of male breast cancer (MBC) patients and the factors influencing their prognosis. Methods We conducted a retrospective case series analysis of 117 MBC cases who were treated at Zhejiang Cancer Hospital from 2009 to 2022. Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify prognostic factors of MBC. Nomogram was constructed based on these factors, which was further evaluated by C-index and calibration curves. Results A total of 115 MBC cases were finally included in our analyses, with median diagnosis age of 59 years. Of these cases, 80.0% were estrogen receptor (ER) positive, 79.2% were progesterone receptor (PR) positive, 48.7% were human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) negative, and 42.6% had Ki67 levels higher than 15%. 108 (93.9%) cases underwent radical mastectomy, while only 3 (2.6%) received breast-conserving surgery. The Logrank test suggested that lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) was negatively associated with both overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) of MBC, while platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were only positively associated with OS (all P-values < 0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed that age (HR 1.08, 95% CI 1.03-1.13) was significant prognostic factors for OS. Meanwhile, age (HR 1.06, 95% CI 1.02-1.10), histological differentiation grade (poorly differentiated/undifferentiated vs. well-differentiated: HR 2.55, 95% CI 1.05-6.17), and TNM stage (IV vs. I: HR 31.59, 95% CI 6.01-165.93) were also significant prognostic factors for DFS. Nomograms were developed for DFS, with C-indexes of 0.782, indicating good predictive performance. Conclusion Increased age, bigger tumor size, higher TNM stage, and lower histological differentiation grade were associated with poor MBC prognosis, and LMR, PLR, and NLR might be potential predictors for MBC prognosis.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the genetic polymorphisms and population characteristics of Chinese Mongolian group from northwest China (NCM) through a self-developed panel including 43 autosomal insertion/deletion (A-InDel) polymorphism genetic markers. Herein, 288 unrelated healthy individuals from the NCM group were employed to obtain the genetic data of 43 A-InDels through multiplex PCR amplification and InDel genotyping using capillary electrophoresis platform. In addition, multiplex population genetic analyses were performed between the NCM group and 27 reference populations. There were no deviations at 43 loci from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the NCM group. The observed heterozygosity (Ho) values ranged from 0.312 8 to 0.559 2, and the combined power of discrimination (CPD) and cumulative probability of exclusion (CPE) values in the NCM group were 0.999 999 999 999 999 998 77 and 0.999 814, respectively. The forensic parameter values indicated that this panel was polymorphic and informative in the NCM group and could be used as an effective tool for forensic personal identification. Furthermore, the results of pairwise genetic distances, principal component analysis, multidimensional scaling analysis, phylogenetic tree construction, and admixture analysis among the NCM group and 27 reference populations revealed that there were closer genetic relationships between the NCM group and East Asian populations, especially Chinese Hui group (CHH) from the northwest China, which is consistent with the geographical location. These present findings contributed to the ongoing genetic explorations and insights into the genetic architecture of the NCM group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the effect of astigmatism correction, rotational stability, and related factors of two different haptic type toric intraocular lenses. METHODS A prospective, randomized, controlled trial. Cataract patients with preoperative corneal astigmatism of > 1 D were randomly implanted with C-loop haptic toric IOL (AcrySof-toric IOL) (group A) or plate-haptic toric IOL (AT TORBI 709 M IOL) (group B). The residual astigmatism, intraocular lens rotation, and visual quality were determined and compared between the two groups at 3 months after surgery. RESULTS Seventy-nine eyes were included in this study, including 40 eyes in the group A and 39 eyes in the group B. No significant difference in preoperative visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and ophthalmic biological parameters was found between the two groups. There was no significant difference in residual astigmatism between the two groups at 3 months after surgery (P > 0.05). The rotation degree in the group A was 3.85 ± 2.92°, the rotation degree in the group B was 2.33 ± 2.31°, and a significant difference in intraocular lens rotation was identified between the two groups (P < 0.05). Upon exploring the rotation-related factors of the two different haptic type toric intraocular lenses, the rotation after implanting C-loop haptic toric IOL was positively correlated with axial length (Pearson r = 0.522, P = 0.01) and corneal white-to-white distance (Pearson correlation analysis r = 0.356, P = 0.024). CONCLUSIONS The two different haptic type toric intraocular lenses effectively corrected regular corneal astigmatism and provided a good rotational stability after surgery. But the stability of plate-haptic toric IOL was better than that of C-loop haptic toric IOL. The rotational stability of C-loop haptic toric IOL was often related to axial length and corneal white-to-white distance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Delirium is a common complication among intensive care unit (ICU) patients that is linked to negative clinical outcomes. However, adherence to the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption in Adult Patients in the ICU (PADIS guidelines), which recommend the use of the ABCDEF bundle, is sub-optimal in routine clinical care. To address this issue, AI-AntiDelirium, a nurse-led artificial intelligence-assisted prevention and management tool for delirium, was developed by our research team. Our pilot study yielded positive findings regarding the use of AI-AntiDelirium in preventing patient ICU delirium and improving activities of daily living and increasing intervention adherence by health care staff. METHODS The proposed large-scale pragmatic, open-label, parallel-group, cluster randomized controlled study will assess the impact of AI-AntiDelirium on the incidence of ICU delirium and delirium-related outcomes. Six ICUs in two tertiary hospitals in China will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to an AI-AntiDelirium or a PADIS guidelines group. A target sample size of 1,452 ICU patients aged 50 years and older treated in the ICU for at least 24 hours will be included. The primary outcome evaluated will be the incidence of ICU delirium and the secondary outcomes will be the duration of ICU delirium, length of ICU and hospital stay, ICU and in-hospital mortality rates, patient cognitive function, patient activities of daily living, and ICU nurse adherence to the ABCDEF bundle. DISCUSSION If this large-scale trial provides evidence of the effectiveness of AI-AntiDelirium, an artificial intelligence-assisted system tool, in decreasing the incidence of ICU delirium, length of ICU and hospital stay, ICU and in-hospital mortality rates, patient cognitive function, and patient activities of daily living while increasing ICU nurse adherence to the ABCDEF bundle, it will have a profound impact on the management of ICU delirium in both research and clinical practice. Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to compare unilateral biportal endoscopic discectomy (UBED) with microdiscectomy (MD) for treating lumbar disk herniation (LDH). METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted in the Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and Web of Science databases from database inception to April 2023 to identify studies comparing UBED and MD for treating LDH. This study evaluated the visual analog scale (VAS) score, Oswestry disability index (ODI), Macnab scores, operation time, estimated blood loss, hospital stay, and complications, estimated blood loss, visual analog scale (VAS) score, Oswestry disability index (ODI), and Macnab scores at various pre- and post-surgery stages. The meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 software. RESULTS The meta-analysis included 9 distinct studies with a total of 1001 patients. The VAS scores for low back pain showed no significant differences between the groups at postoperative 1-3 months (P = 0.09) and final follow-up (P = 0.13); however, the UBED group had lower VAS scores at postoperative 1-3 days (P = 0.02). There were no significant differences in leg pain VAS scores at baseline (P = 0.05), postoperative 1-3 days (P = 0.24), postoperative 1-3 months (P = 0.78), or at the final follow-up (P = 0.43). ODI comparisons revealed no significant differences preoperatively (P = 0.83), at postoperative 1 week (P = 0.47), or postoperative 1-3 months (P = 0.13), and the UBED group demonstrated better ODI at the final follow-up (P = 0.03). The UBED group also exhibited a shorter mean operative time (P = 0.03), significantly shorter hospital stay (P < 0.00001), and less estimated blood loss (P = 0.0002). Complications and modified MacNab scores showed no significant differences between the groups (P = 0.56 and P = 0.05, respectively). CONCLUSION The evidence revealed no significant differences in efficacy between UBED and MD for LDH treatment. However, UBED may offer potential benefits such as shorter hospital stays, lower estimated blood loss, and comparable complication rates.

Abstract
Recently, bioinspired fluorescent materials have drawn ever-increasing attention due to their ecofriendliness and easy accessibility. Herein, we demonstrate that anthraquinone/metal ion coordination complexes can form well-defined crystals and possess obvious fluorescence enhancement properties. The fluorescence quantum yields of anthraquinone/metal ion assemblies are more than 2 orders of magnitude compared to those of anthraquinone assemblies. The electronic structures of the first excited singlet states of anthraquinone/metal ion molecules are obtained, and the mechanism of the fluorescence enhancement is elucidated. Such photoluminescent anthraquinone/metal ion crystals can be considered as efficient phosphors in fabricating light-emitting diodes. This work provides a simple route for the development of highly efficient natural fluorescent materials.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of a 3D printed self-stable zero-profile artificial vertebral body for anterior cervical corpectomy decompression and fusion in the treatment of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) of the cervical spine. Methods: In this prospective randomized controlled trial, patients diagnosed with OPLL in Luohe Central Hospital from January to July 2022 were divided into a zero-profile group (3D printed self-stable zero-profile artificial vertebral body was used for internal fixation and fusion after anterior cervical subtotal decompression,) and titanium-mesh group (titanium-mesh and titanium plate were used for internal fixation and fusion after anterior cervical subtotal decompression) according to envelope random method. Operation time, intraoperative blood loss, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score and improvement rate, incidence of postoperative prosthesis subsidence, and bone graft fusion were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results: Finally, 21 patients in the zero notch group and 20 patients in the titanium mesh group were included in the study and were followed-up. In the zero-profile group, there were 16 males and 5 females, aged (48.0±12.7) years. In the titanium-mesh group, there were 14 males and 6 females, aged (49.8±10.2) years. All the 41 patients successfully completed the operation. In the zero-profile group, the surgical time was (50.04±8.45) minutes, the blood loss was (95.38±26.07) ml and the hospitalization cost was (42.32±6.12) thousand yuan. In the titanium-mesh group, the surgical time was (59.20±11.95) minutes, the blood loss was (93.10±27.86) ml and the hospitalization cost was (42.10±6.71) thousand yuan. The surgical time in the zero-profile group was shorter than that in the titanium-mesh group (P=0.007), and there was no statistically significant difference in blood loss and hospitalization costs between the two groups (both P>0.05). The 41 patients were followed-up for (14.29±1.45) months. Four cases (20.0%) in the titanium mesh group experienced swallowing difficulties and 0 cases in the zero incision group, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P=0.048). No intraoperative hematoma, spinal cord nerve recompression, airway crisis, incision infection complications, and no steel plate or screw breakage or displacement occurred after surgery. At the last follow-up, all cases had bone fusion. At the follow-up of 12 months after surgery, the JOA score of the zero incision group increased from preoperative (10.33±1.71) points to (15.47±0.81) points, with an improvement rate of 76.1%±15.7%; the JOA score of the titanium mesh group increased from (10.30±1.75) points to (15.30±0.92) points, with an improvement rate of 73.2%±16.7%; there was no statistically significant difference in improvement rate between the two groups (P=0.580). At the follow-up of 12 months after surgery, 1 case (4.8%) in the zero incision group and 8 cases (40.0%) in the titanium mesh group experienced implant sinking, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P=0.009). Conclusion: Compared with titanium-mesh, 3D printed self-stable zero-profile artificial vertebral body for the treatment of OPLL of the cervical spine can achieve good surgical efficacy, shorter surgical time, lower incidence of postoperative chronic swallowing discomfort, and can provide a better bone material bonding interface and be less prone to prosthesis settlement.

Abstract
Endometriosis is a common disease among women of reproductive age in which endometrial tissue grows in ectopic localizations, primarily within the pelvic cavity. These ectopic "lesions" grow as well as migrate and invade underlying tissues. Despite the prevalence of the disease, an understanding of factors that contribute to these cellular attributes remains poorly understood. Prefoldin-5 (PFDN5) has been associated with both aberrant cell proliferation and migration, but a potential role in endometriosis is unknown. As such, the purpose of this study was to examine PFDN5 expression in endometriotic tissue. PFDN5 mRNA and protein were examined in ectopic (lesion) and eutopic endometrial tissue from women with endometriosis and in eutopic endometrium from those without endometriosis using qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry, respectively, while function of PFDN5 in vitro was evaluated using cell count and migration assays. PFDN5 mRNA and protein were expressed in eutopic and ectopic endometrial tissue, predominantly in the glandular epithelium, but not in endometrium from control subjects. Expression of both mRNA and protein was variable among endometriotic eutopic and ectopic endometrial tissue but showed an overall net increase. Knockdown of PFDN5 by siRNA transfection of endometriotic epithelial 12Z cells was associated with reduced cell proliferation/survival and migration. PFDN5 is expressed in eutopic and ectopic glandular epithelium and may play a role in proliferation and migration of these cells contributing to disease pathophysiology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer is the third most prevalent malignancy globally and ranks second in cancer-related mortality, with the liver being the primary organ of metastasis. Preoperative chemotherapy is widely recommended for initially or potentially resectable colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs). Tumour pathological response serves as the most important and intuitive indicator for assessing the efficacy of chemotherapy. However, the postoperative pathological results reveal that a considerable number of patients exhibit a poor response to preoperative chemotherapy. Body mass index (BMI) is one of the factors affecting the tumorigenesis and progression of colorectal cancer as well as prognosis after various antitumour therapies. Several studies have indicated that overweight and obese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer experience worse prognoses than those with normal weight, particularly when receiving first-line chemotherapy regimens in combination with bevacizumab. AIM To explore the predictive value of BMI regarding the pathologic response following preoperative chemotherapy for CRLMs. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed in 126 consecutive patients with CRLM who underwent hepatectomy following preoperative chemotherapy at four different hospitals from October 2019 to July 2023. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were applied to analyse potential predictors of tumour pathological response. The Kaplan-Meier method with log rank test was used to compare progression-free survival (PFS) between patients with high and low BMI. BMI < 24.0 kg/m2 was defined as low BMI, and tumour regression grade 1-2 was defined as complete tumour response. RESULTS Low BMI was observed in 74 (58.7%) patients and complete tumour response was found in 27 (21.4%) patients. The rate of complete tumour response was significantly higher in patients with low BMI (29.7% vs 9.6%, P = 0.007). Multivariate analysis revealed that low BMI [odds ratio (OR) = 4.56, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.42-14.63, P = 0.011], targeted therapy with bevacizumab (OR = 3.02, 95%CI: 1.10-8.33, P = 0.033), preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen level < 10 ng/mL (OR = 3.84, 95%CI: 1.19-12.44, P = 0.025) and severe sinusoidal dilatation (OR = 0.17, 95%CI: 0.03-0.90, P = 0.037) were independent predictive factors for complete tumour response. The low BMI group exhibited a significantly longer median PFS than the high BMI group (10.7 mo vs 4.7 mo, P = 0.011). CONCLUSION In CRLM patients receiving preoperative chemotherapy, a low BMI may be associated with better tumour response and longer PFS.

Abstract
The prediction of three-dimensional (3D) protein structure from amino acid sequences has stood as a significant challenge in computational and structural bioinformatics for decades. Recently, the widespread integration of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms has substantially expedited advancements in protein structure prediction, yielding numerous significant milestones. In particular, the end-to-end deep learning method AlphaFold2 has facilitated the rise of structure prediction performance to new heights, regularly competitive with experimental structures in the 14th Critical Assessment of Protein Structure Prediction (CASP14). To provide a comprehensive understanding and guide future research in the field of protein structure prediction for researchers, this review describes various methodologies, assessments, and databases in protein structure prediction, including traditionally used protein structure prediction methods, such as template-based modeling (TBM) and template-free modeling (FM) approaches; recently developed deep learning-based methods, such as contact/distance-guided methods, end-to-end folding methods, and protein language model (PLM)-based methods; multi-domain protein structure prediction methods; the CASP experiments and related assessments; and the recently released AlphaFold Protein Structure Database (AlphaFold DB). We discuss their advantages, disadvantages, and application scopes, aiming to provide researchers with insights through which to understand the limitations, contexts, and effective selections of protein structure prediction methods in protein-related fields.

Abstract
Introduction Glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzymes play a crucial role in detoxification by catalysing the conjugation of many hydrophobic and electrophilic compounds with reduced glutathione. Polymorphisms in GST genes may influence the susceptibility to various cancers, including melanoma. Aim We reported a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the association between GST polymorphisms and susceptibility to cutaneous melanoma. Material and methods A comprehensive search of four databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, was conducted to gather pertinent studies up until 24 August 2023. No restrictions were imposed during the search. The analysis included 32 studies and was broken down into subgroups based on ethnicity, control source, control matching, quality score, and sample size. Results The forest plot analyses on GSTM1, GSTT1, combined GSTM1/GSTT1, and GSTP1 polymorphisms in relation to melanoma risk showed no statistically significant differences between the case and control groups, except for the recessive model of GSTP1 polymorphism. The analysis revealed significant associations between GSTM1 polymorphisms and melanoma risk in Asians and in studies with a sample size of less than 200. For the combined GSTM1/GSTT1 polymorphisms, a significant association was found in hospital-based controls. Conclusions While this study enhances our understanding of the genetic factors influencing melanoma risk, it also highlights the need for further research. The current evidence is not sufficient to confirm or reject the intervention effect. Future research should consider gene-gene and gene-environment interactions, which could offer a more comprehensive understanding of the complex biology of melanoma.

Abstract
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent mRNA modification, and it is verified to be closely correlated with cancer occurrence and progression. The m6A demethylase ALKBH5 (alkB homolog 5) is dysregulated in various cancers. However, the role and underlying mechanism of ALKBH5 in the pathogenesis and especially the chemo-resistance of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is poorly elucidated. The current study shows that ALKBH5 expression is reduced in paclitaxel (PTX) resistant NSCLC cells and down-regulation of ALKBH5 usually implies poor prognosis of NSCLC patients. Over-expression of ALKBH5 in PTX-resistant cells can suppress cell proliferation and enhance chemo-sensitivity, while knockdown of ALKBH5 exerts the opposite effect, which further supports the tumor suppressive role of ALKBH5. Over-expression of ALKBH5 can also reverse the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process in PTX-resistant cancer cells. Mechanistically, data from RNA-seq, real-time PCR and western blotting indicate that CEMIP (cell migration inducing hyaluronidase 1), also known as KIAA1199, may be the downstream target of ALKBH5. Furthermore, ALKBH5 negatively regulates the CEMIP level by reducing the stability of CEMIP mRNA. Collectively, the current data demonstrate that the ALKBH5/CEMIP axis modulates the EMT process in NSCLC, which in turn regulates the chemo-sensitivity of cancer cells to PTX.

Abstract
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is characterized by leukocytosis with left-shifted neutrophilia, basophilia, eosinophilia, and variable thrombocytosis. However, extremely rare cases of patients with CML without significant leukocytosis and thrombocytosis (aleukemic phase [ALP] CML, or CML-ALP) have been reported. Due to its rarity and limited awareness, there remains a significant knowledge gap concerning the pathologic diagnosis, disease progression, and optimal patient management and outcomes. In this multi-institutional study, we investigated 31 patients with CML-ALP. Over half (54.8%) of patients had a history of or concurrent hematopoietic or nonhematopoietic malignancies. At time of diagnosis of CML-ALP, approximately 26.7% of patients exhibited neutrophilia, 56.7% had basophilia, and 13.3% showed eosinophilia. The median number of metaphases positive for t(9;22)(q34;q11.2) was 15, with a median of 38.5% of interphase nuclei positive for BCR::ABL1 by fluorescence in situ hybridization. The median BCR::ABL1 level was 26.14%. Remarkably, 14 (45.2%) patients were initially misdiagnosed or not diagnosed before karyotype or fluorescence in situ hybridization information for BCR::ABL1 became available. Twenty-five patients received tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). One patient developed blast crisis while on TKI treatment 8 months after initial diagnosis. With a median follow-up time of 46.1 months, 20 of 22 patients who received TKI therapy and had detailed follow-up information achieved complete cytogenetic remission or deeper, 15 achieved major molecular remission or deeper, and 10 achieved molecularly undetectable leukemia. In conclusion, given the frequent occurrence of prior or concurrent malignancies, aleukemic presentation, and low level of t(9;22)(q34;q11.2)/BCR::ABL1, misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis is common among these patients. While these patients generally respond well to TKIs, rare patients may develop blastic transformation. It is therefore important for pathologists and hematologists to be aware of this highly unusual presentation of CML to ensure timely diagnosis and appropriate management.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to investigate the expression patterns and clinical significance of miR-140-3p and homeobox A9 (HOXA9) in colorectal cancer (CRC) selected by bioinformatic study, while elucidating their potential interplay. METHODS The microRNA expression profiles of paired colorectal cancer and matched normal tissues were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus Database. Differentially expressed microRNAs and microRNA candidates were filtered and subjected to further analysis. Clinicopathological data, along with paraffin-embedded samples of colorectal tumor tissues were collected to facilitate comprehensive analysis. Expression levels of miR-140-3p and HOXA9 were quantified using qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. Survival rates were determined using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the COX regression model was utilized to identify independent prognostic factors that impact the overall prognosis. RESULTS MiR-140-3p was significantly downregulated in colorectal tumors compared to normal tissue, and HOXA9 was identified as a previously unreported potential downstream target. HOXA9 expression was elevated in tumors compared to normal tissues. Reduced miR-140-3p expression was associated with lymph node metastasis, while high HOXA9 expression correlated with both lymph node metastasis and lympho-vascular invasion. Patients with low miR-140-3p and high HOXA9 expression had a poorer prognosis. HOXA9 was identified as an independent risk factor for CRC patient survival. CONCLUSION The miR-140-3p-HOXA9 signaling disruption is closely linked to lymph node metastasis and unfavorable prognosis in CRC. This axis shows promise as a clinical biomarker for predicting the CRC patient survival and a potential therapeutic target.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The timing of tracheostomy for critically ill patients on mechanical ventilation (MV) is a topic of controversy. Our objective was to determine the most suitable timing for tracheostomy in patients undergoing MV. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS One thousand eight hundred eighty-four hospitalisations received tracheostomy from January 2011 to December 2020 in a Chinese tertiary hospital. METHODS Tracheostomy timing was divided into three groups: early tracheostomy (ET), intermediate tracheostomy (IMT), and late tracheostomy (LT), based on the duration from tracheal intubation to tracheostomy. We established two criteria to classify the timing of tracheostomy for data analysis: Criteria I (ET ≤ 5 days, 5 days < IMT ≤ 10 days, LT > 10 days) and Criteria II (ET ≤ 7 days, 7 days < IMT ≤ 14 days, LT > 14 days). Parameters such as length of ICU stay, length of hospital stay, and duration of MV were used to evaluate outcomes. Additionally, the outcomes were categorized as good prognosis, poor prognosis, and death based on the manner of hospital discharge. Student's t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test were employed as appropriate to assess differences in demographic data and individual characteristics among the ET, IMT, and LT groups. Univariate Cox regression model and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression model were utilized to determine whether delaying tracheostomy would increase the risk of death. RESULTS In both of two criterion, patients with delayed tracheostomies had longer hospital stays (p < 0.001), ICU stays (p < 0.001), total time receiving MV (p < 0.001), time receiving MV before tracheostomy (p < 0.001), time receiving MV after tracheostomy (p < 0.001), and sedation durations. Similar results were also found in sub-population diagnosed as trauma, neurogenic or digestive disorders. Multinomial Logistic regression identified LT was independently associated with poor prognosis, whereas ET conferred no clinical benefits compared with IMT. CONCLUSIONS In a mixed ICU population, delayed tracheostomy prolonged ICU and hospital stays, sedation durations, and time receiving MV. Multinomial logistic regression analysis identified delayed tracheostomies as independently correlated with worse outcomes. TRIAL REGISTRATION ChiCTR2100043905. Abstract
Gestational diabetes (GDM) changes the maternal metabolic and uterine environment, thus increasing the risk of short- and long-term adverse outcomes for both mother and child. Children of mothers who have GDM during their pregnancy are more likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), early-onset cardiovascular disease and GDM when they themselves become pregnant, perpetuating a multigenerational increased risk of metabolic disease. The negative effect of GDM is exacerbated by maternal obesity, which induces a greater derangement of fetal adipogenesis and growth. Multiple factors, including genetic, epigenetic and metabolic, which interact with lifestyle factors and the environment, are likely to contribute to the development of GDM. Genetic factors are particularly important, with 30% of women with GDM having at least one parent with T2D. Fetal epigenetic modifications occur in response to maternal GDM, and may mediate both multi- and transgenerational risk. Changes to the maternal metabolome in GDM are primarily related to fatty acid oxidation, inflammation and insulin resistance. These might be effective early biomarkers allowing the identification of women at risk of GDM prior to the development of hyperglycaemia. The impact of the intra-uterine environment on the developing fetus, "developmental programming", has a multisystem effect, but its influence on adipogenesis is particularly important as it will determine baseline insulin sensitivity, and the response to future metabolic challenges. Identifying the critical window of metabolic development and developing effective interventions are key to our ability to improve population metabolic health.

Abstract
Mangrove ecosystems, as an important component of "Blue Carbon", play a curial role on global carbon cycling; however, the lack of the global estimates of mangrove ecosystem gross primary production (GPP) and the underlying environmental controls on its estimation remain a gap in knowledge. In this study, we utilized global mangrove eddy covariance data and applied Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) to estimate GPP for global mangrove ecosystems, aiming to elucidate the factors influencing these estimates. The optimal GPR achieved favorable estimation performance through cross-validation (R2 = 0.90, RMSE = 0.92 gC/m2/day, WI = 0.86). Over the study period, the globally annual averaged GPP was 2054.53 ± 38.51 gC/m2/yr (comparable to that of evergreen broadleaf forests and exceeds the GPP of most other plant function types), amounting to a total of 304.82 ± 7.71TgC/yr, hotspots exceeding 3000 gC/m2/yr observed near the equator. The analysis revealed a decline in global mangrove GPP during 1996-2020 of -0.89 TgC/yr. Human activities (changes in mangrove cover area) played a relatively consistent role in contributing to this decrease. Conversely, variations in external environmental conditions showed distinct inter-annual differences in their impact. The spatio-temporal distribution patterns of mangrove ecosystems GPP (e.g., the bimodal annual pattern, latitudinal gradients, etc.) demonstrated the regulatory influence of external environmental conditions on GPP estimates. The model ensemble attribution analysis indicated that the fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation exerted the dominant control on GPP estimations, while temperature, salinity, and humidity acted as secondary constraints. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for monitoring, modeling, and managing mangrove ecosystems GPP; and underscore the critical role of mangroves in global carbon sequestration. By quantifying the influences of environmental factors, we enhance our understanding of mangrove carbon cycling estimates, thereby helping sustain of these disproportionately productive ecosystems.
