Abstract
BACKGROUND Noncontiguous 2-level cervical disc herniation (NCT-CDH) is a common condition that often requires surgical intervention. In this study, we developed a surgical approach for the treatment of NCT-CDH using anterior percutaneous full-endoscopic single incision through the vertebral body. We provide a brief overview of its safety, efficacy, and feasibility, along with a description of our relevant surgical experience. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted, involving 30 patients who were followed up for at least 12 months. Preoperative and postoperative visual analog scale, Japanese Orthopedic Association scores, Nurick scores, intervertebral disc height, and modified Macnab criteria were recorded. Patients underwent regular radiological evaluations throughout the follow-up period. RESULTS Postoperative computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and X-ray examinations revealed bone tunnel healing, intact drilled vertebral bodies without collapse, adequate decompression of the spinal canal, and normal cervical mobility. There was a significant improvement in postoperative visual analog scale, Japanese Orthopedic Association scores, Nurick scores, and modified Macnab criteria compared to the preoperative values (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed that the anterior percutaneous full-endoscopic transcorporeal with single-incision treatment for NCT-CDH is a safe and feasible surgical method. Therefore, it can be considered as a viable treatment option for patients with NCT-CDH.

Surgical Essentials and 2-Year Follow-Up Results of Channel Repair in Endoscopic Transcorporeal Discectomy for Cervical Disc Herniation. World Neurosurg 2024; 182:e755-e763. [PMID: 38097167 DOI: 10.1016/j.wneu.2023.12.030] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/06/2023] [Revised: 12/05/2023] [Accepted: 12/06/2023] [Indexed: 01/11/2024]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate long-term outcomes and surgical essentials of channel repair in endoscopic transcorporeal discectomy for cervical disc herniation. METHODS From October 2019 to March 2020, 24 patients with cervical disc herniation underwent channel repair after percutaneous full-endoscopic anterior transcorporeal cervical discectomy. Five interventions were performed at C3-C4, 11 were performed at C4-C5, and 8 were performed at C5-C6. Clinical outcomes were evaluated by Neck Disability Index, Japanese Orthopaedic Association, and visual analog scale scores. Radiologic changes were evaluated with intervertebral disc height and drilled vertebral height. RESULTS All procedures were completed with a mean operating time of 86.40 ± 8.19 minutes. Swollen neck was observed in 5 patients, which resolved within 2 hours. At the final follow-up, Neck Disability Index, Japanese Orthopaedic Association, and visual analog scale scores were improved significantly compared with preoperative assessments (P < 0.05); intervertebral disc height was decreased significantly (P < 0.05); and loss of drilled vertebral height was not significant (P > 0.05). All 24 bony channels disappeared by 3 months postoperatively. No other complications were observed. CONCLUSIONS Percutaneous full-endoscopic anterior transcorporeal cervical discectomy with channel repair offers a minimally invasive and effective treatment option for patients with cervical disc herniation. This technique demonstrates favorable clinical outcomes, including preservation of cervical spine mobility and minimal complications. Although there was a significant loss of intervertebral disc height, no vertebral collapse occurred. Strict adherence to surgical indications and precautions is crucial for successful outcomes. Further research and long-term studies are required to validate the efficacy and safety of this approach in a larger patient population.

Anterior transcorporeal approach combined with posterior translaminar approach in percutaneous endoscopic cervical discectomy for two-segment cervical disc herniation treatment: a technical report and early follow-up. J Orthop Surg Res 2024; 19:3. [PMID: 38167157 PMCID: PMC10763675 DOI: 10.1186/s13018-023-04471-4] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 08/26/2023] [Accepted: 12/13/2023] [Indexed: 01/05/2024] Open
Abstract
OBJECTIVE Full endoscopic techniques are being gradually introduced from single-segment cervical disc herniation surgery to two-segment cervical disc herniation surgery. However, there is no suitable full endoscopic treatment for mixed-type two-segment cervical disc herniation (MTCDH) in which one segment herniates in front of the spinal cord and the other segment herniates behind the spinal cord. Therefore, we introduce a new full endoscopic technique by combining an anterior transcorporeal approach and a posterior translaminar approach. In addition, we provide a brief description of its safety, efficacy, feasibility, and surgical points. METHODS Thirty patients with MTCDH were given full endoscopic surgical treatment by a combined transcorporeal and transforaminal approach and were followed up for at least 12 months. RESULTS Clinical assessment scales showed that the patient's symptoms and pain were significantly reduced postoperatively. Imaging results showed bony repair of the surgically induced bone defect and the cervical Cobb angle was increased. No serious complications occurred. CONCLUSION This technique enables minimally invasive surgery to relieve the compression of the spinal cord by MTCDH. It avoids the fusion of the vertebral body for internal fixation, preserves the vertebral motion segments, avoids medical destruction of the cervical disc to the greatest extent possible, and expands the scope of adaptation of full endoscopic technology in cervical surgery.

Abstract
3D nanocake-like Au-MXene and Au pallet (Au-MXene/AuP) nanocomposite-modified screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) were utilized to construct an ultrasensitive label-free electrochemical aptasensor through a self-assembly procedure for trace paraquat (PQ) residue detection. Benefiting from the excellent electrochemical (EC) performances (e.g., high conductivity and large surface area) of Au-MXene nanocomposites and AuP substrate, the developed Apt/Au-MXene/AuP/SPCE-based EC aptasensor displayed excellent specificity and anti-interference ability, good repeatability, and stability. A linear relationship between the log value of the change in current intensity [lg (ΔI)] and the log value of the concentration of PQ [lg (CPQ)] was obtained in the range 0.05-1000 ng/mL. The limit of detection was 0.028 ng/mL, and the sensitivity was 255.5 μA/(μM·cm2). Practical applications in malt and mint samples confirmed the accuracy of the EC aptasensor in complex matrices for PQ detection, providing a universal analytical tool for other trace pesticides in different food samples by simply replacing the corresponding aptamers.

Anterior percutaneous full-endoscopic transcorporeal decompression of the spinal cord via one vertebra with two bony channels for adjacent two-segment cervical spondylotic myelopathy: a technical note. BMC Musculoskelet Disord 2023; 24:844. [PMID: 37884962 PMCID: PMC10601313 DOI: 10.1186/s12891-023-06978-7] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 07/30/2023] [Accepted: 10/18/2023] [Indexed: 10/28/2023] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND The current treatments for adjacent two-segment cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) include two-segment anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and single-segment anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF). Long-term follow-up has demonstrated that both procedures have complications such as reduced cervical mobility, accelerated degeneration of adjacent segments and loosening of internal fixation screws. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of anterior percutaneous full-endoscopic transcorporeal decompression of the spinal cord (APFETDSC) via one vertebra with two bony channels for the treatment of adjacent two-segment CSM and to present our surgical experience. METHODS Anterior percutaneous full-endoscopic transcorporeal decompression of the spinal cord (APFETDSC) via one vertebra with two bony channels was performed for 12 patients with adjacent two-segment CSM with follow-up care for at least 12 months. The Visual analog scale (VAS) and the Japanese Orthopedic Association Score (JOA) were recorded, and modified Macnab criteria were used to evaluate the treatment excellence rate. Radiological examinations, including X-ray, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), were used to evaluate spinal cord decompression, intervertebral stability and healing of the bony channel. RESULTS All 12 patients completed the operation successfully. No postoperative complications, such as dysphagia, Horner's syndrome, or laryngeal recurrent nerve palsy, were found. The postoperative VAS and JOA scores were significantly improved compared with those before surgery(P < 0.001). According to the modified Macnab criteria, the clinical outcome was excellent in 8 cases, good in 3 cases and fine in 1 case at the final follow-up and the excellent and good rate was 91.7%. Postoperative and follow-up imaging showed significant spinal cord decompression, well-healed bony channels and no cervical instability. CONCLUSIONS This study is the first report of anterior percutaneous full-endoscopic transcorporeal decompression of the spinal cord via one vertebra with two bony channels. This procedure has the advantages of less trauma, faster recovery, fewer complications and no need to implant internal fixators. This is a minimally invasive, feasible and safe surgical procedure for patients with adjacent two-segment CSM.

Abstract
A novel iron-catalyzed borylation of propargylic acetates leading to allenylboronates has been developed. The method allows the preparation of a variety of di-, tri- and tetrasubstituted allenylboronates at room temperature with good functional group compatibility. Stereochemical studies show that an anti-SN 2' displacement of acetate by boron occurs; this also allows transfer of chirality to yield enantiomerically enriched allenylboronates. The synthetic utility of this protocol was further substantiated by transformations of the obtained allenylboronates including oxidation and propargylation.

Abstract
Herein, an iron(II)-catalyzed biomimetic oxidation of N-heterocycles under aerobic conditions is described. The dehydrogenation process, involving several electron-transfer steps, is inspired by oxidations occurring in the respiratory chain. An environmentally friendly and inexpensive iron catalyst together with a hydroquinone/cobalt Schiff base hybrid catalyst as electron-transfer mediator were used for the substrate-selective dehydrogenation reaction of various N-heterocycles. The method shows a broad substrate scope and delivers important heterocycles in good-to-excellent yields.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies that focus on percutaneous full-endoscopic anterior transcorporeal cervical discectomy (PEATCD) have rarely been reported. Therefore, the available data on the surgical design of PEATCD and related clinical outcomes are very limited. OBJECTIVES To design a surgical plan for PEATCD and to evaluate its clinical efficacy in clinical application. STUDY DESIGN A retrospective cohort study. SETTING A center for spine surgery, rehabilitation department and pain medicine. METHODS Based on the size and precise location of the disc protrusions on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the diameter and direction of the bone channel were designed to make a surgical plan for PEATCD. A total of 26 patients with central/paracentral cervical disc herniation (CDH) who underwent PEATCD through the designed surgical plan from October 2015 to September 2016 were enrolled in the retrospective study. Clinical outcome evaluations included Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores, and the modified Macnab criteria. Radiologic follow-up included cervical computerized tomography (CT) and MRI evaluations. RESULTS The diameter of the designed bone channel was about 7.5 mm, and the direction was from the upper edge of the lower endplate obliquely toward the disc protrusion. Through the designed surgical plan, 26 cases of discectomy were successfully completed. The average operation time was 91.50 ± 16.80 min, and the average hospital stay was 4.07 ± 0.84 days. All patients were followed for an average of 19.61 ± 4.04 months. The postoperative VAS and JOA scores were significantly improved compared with the preoperative scores (P < 0.0001). Clinical efficacy at the final follow-up was evaluated by the modified Macnab criteria, and the excellent and good rate was 92.31%. Postoperative MRI showed that the disc protrusion was completely removed, and CT showed no collapse of the vertebral body. LIMITATIONS This study has several limitations, including the lack of a control group, the small sample size, and the unavoidable nature of the single-center study design. CONCLUSIONS Based on the size and location of the disc protrusion on MRI, the diameter and direction of the bone channel are designed, which is conducive to have enough space under the full-endoscopic field of view to completely expose and remove the disc protrusion, to avoid residuals, and to ensure that PEATCD achieves good therapeutic results. TRIAL REGISTRATION The study was registered at Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR1900027820).

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the characteristics of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in AIDS patients with normal fundus, HIV-related microvascular retinopathy (MVR), and cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 111 patients were diagnosed with AIDS from 2012 to 2017 by infectious disease physicians in Beijing You'an Hospital. There were 105 males and 6 females, aged 20-65 years. According to the results of ophthalmic examination, the patients were divided into three groups: 31 patients in the active-stage CMVR group, 47 patients in the MVR group, and 33 patients with normal fundus in the control group. RNFL thickness was measured by optical coherence tomography in all patients. At the same time, visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and fundus were examined, and AIDS-related systemic examination (CD4(+) T lymphocyte count, HAART treatment status, and blood cytomegalovirus DNA level) was performed. The measurement data were compared by t-test, variance analysis or rank sum test. The counting data were compared by chi square test or Fisher exact probability method. Results: In the control group, the thickness of RNFL in the superior quadrant in the left and right eyes was 145 (79, 231) μm and 142 (46, 179) μm, respectively; the difference was statistically significant (Z=-2.481, P=0.013). The RNFL thickness of the diseased and healthy eyes in the MVR group was 116 (91, 138) μm and 122 (82, 192) μm, respectively, with no significant difference (Z=-0.861, P=0.389); the best corrected visual acuity was 0.0 (0.0, 0.2) and 0.0 (0.0, 0.2), respectively, with no significant difference (Z=-0.378, P=0.705). In the CMVR group, the best corrected visual acuity of the diseased and healthy eyes was (0.23±0.48) and (0.02±0.82), respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (t=-2.944, P=0.003); the RNFL thickness was 133 (61, 219) μm and 121 (69, 146), respectively, in the whole optic disc, with statistically significant difference (Z=-2.385, P=0.017), 104 (41, 374) μm and 82 (55, 121) μm, respectively, in the nasal quadrant, and 99 (14, 173) μm and 72 (36, 111) μm, respectively, in the temporal quadrant, with statistically significant difference (Z=-2.045, -2.543; P=0.041, 0.011). The RNFL thickness in the CMVR group, the MVR group, and the control group was 149 (61, 350) μm, 126 (71, 304) μm, and 113 (87, 149) μm, respectively, with statistically significant difference (H=20.908, P=0.000). Conclusions: The fundus of AIDS patients had different characteristics on optical coherence tomography. In active CMVR patients, the thickness of RNFL was generally thickened. In MVR patients, the average thickness of RNFL was thicker than that in the normal control group.(Chin J Ophthalmol, 2020, 56:258-265).

Abstract
Nitrogen-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (aza-PAHs) have found broad applications in material sciences. Herein, a modular electrochemical synthesis of aza-PAHs was developed via a rhodium-catalyzed cascade C-H activation and alkyne annulation. A multifunctional O-methylamidoxime enabled the high chemo- and regioselectivity. The isolation of two key rhodacyclic intermediates made it possible to delineate the exact order of three C-H activation steps. In addition, the metalla-electrocatalyzed multiple C-H transformation is characterized by unique functional group tolerance, including highly reactive iodo and azido groups.

Abstract
Objective: To screen the retinopathy in HIV/AIDS patients with both non-mydriatic ultra-wide-field (UWF) retinal imaging and mydriatic fundus examinations with the Superfield lens and a slit lamp biomicroscope, and to evaluate the consistency of two methods and provide reference for future clinical screening work and even technological innovation (such as telemedicine screening and artificial intelligence). Methods: Cross sectional study. One hundred and fifty-eight eyes of 80 HIV-positive patients from the Ophthalmology Department of Beijing Youan Hospital were enrolled in this prospective observational study. All patients underwent comprehensive ophthalmological examination. A single image was obtained from each eye using the UWF fundus imaging system (Daytona, Optos, Dunfermline, UK), and then a dilated fundal examination with the Superfield lens was conducted by another expert. The possible type and location of the lesion with these two methods was recorded respectively. The consistency was compared using the detection rate and Kappa value. Results: Fifty-two patients (65%) had fundus changes, and 28 patients (35%) were normal. Seventy-nine eyes (50%) were normal and 79 eyes (50%) had fundus lesions. Sixty-one eyes (77.2%) had HIV-related fundus lesions, while 18 eyes (22.8%) had non-HIV-related fundus lesions. Fifty-two eyes (65.8%) suffered posterior or posterior involving lesions, and 27 eyes (34.2%) suffered isolated peripheral lesions. The detection rate of UWF retinal imaging and slit lamp biomicroscopy with the Superfield lens was 17.7% (28/158) and 18.4% (29/158) (P=1.000>0.05) for HIV-related microvascular retinopathy, 8.2% and 8.2% (13/158) (χ(2)=158.00, P=1.000) for cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR), 36.1% and 36.1% (57/158) (χ(2)=71.066, P=1.000) for HIV-related fundus lesions, 41.8% (66/158) and 47.5% (75/158) (χ(2)=63.514, P=0.136) for fundus lesions, 33.5% (53/158) and 31.0% (49/158) (χ(2)=108.268, P=0.388) for posterior/posterior involving lesions, and 6.4% (10/158) and 16.5% (26/158) (χ(2)=42.001, P=0.000) for isolated peripheral lesions, respectively. In general, the consistency of these two methods was moderate in detecting fundus lesions (Kappa=0.630), HIV-related fundus lesions (Kappa=0.671), HIV-related microvascular retinopathy (Kappa=0.551), and isolated peripheral lesions (Kappa=0.450). According to the fundus location, the two methods showed high consistency in the detection of posterior/posterior involving lesions (Kappa=0.826>0.75) and perfect consistency for CMVR (Kappa=1.0). Conclusions: The UWF retinal imaging system and the Superfield lens showed reasonable consistency in fundus screening in HIV/AIDS patients, especially for CMVR, or lesions in the posterior pole. Abstract
A flow-metallaelectro-catalyzed C-H activation was realized in terms of robust rhodaelectro-catalyzed alkyne annulations. To this end, a modular electro-flow cell with a porous graphite felt anode was designed to ensure efficient turnover. Thereby, a variety of C-H/N-H functionalizations proved amenable for alkyne annulations with high levels of regioselectivity and functional group tolerance, viable in both an inter- or intramolecular manner. The electro-flow C-H activation allowed easy scale up, while in-operando kinetic analysis was accomplished by online flow-NMR spectroscopy. Mechanistic studies suggest an oxidatively induced reductive elimination pathway on rhodium(III) in an electrocatalytic regime.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the effect of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) phosphorylation on type Ⅰ collagen mineralization and explore the role of small molecule compound ATP in biomimetic mineralization. Methods: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to analyze the phosphorylation of collagen molecules by different concentrations (0, 25, 50, 100 mmol/L) of ATP. The concentration of 50 mmol/L ATP was chosen to construct the phosphorylated collagen mineralization model. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to observed the ultrastructure of mineralized collagen and the collagen mineralization rate was further calculated by ImageJ software. The surface morphology of the collagen gel ATP group and the control group was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the elemental analysis was performed by using an X-ray energy spectrometer. The artificial demineralized dentin samples were mineralized for 2 days and 4 days to compare the effect of ATP on dentin remineralization by SEM. Results: FT-IR analysis showed that the formation of new peaks at wavenumbers of 642, 818, and 902 cm(-1) indicated that ATP can phosphorylate type Ⅰ collagen. Through TEM and SEM observation, the mineralization degree of type Ⅰ collagen and demineralized dentin pretreated with 50 mmol/L ATP were significantly higher than that of the control group. Compared with the control group [(31.65±1.62)%], the mineralization rate of collagen in the ATP group [(100±0)%] was significantly increased after 2 days of mineralization (P<0.05). Conclusions: ATP phosphorylation can effectively promote the mineralization process of type Ⅰ collagen.

Abstract
Summary Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome(JLNS) is an autosomal recessive hereditary disease characterized by congenital severe sensorineural hearing loss in both ears and severe arrhythmias with QT interval prolongation. Children with JLNS often exhibit sensorineural hearing loss and are easily misdiagnosed as non-syndromic hearing loss before attack of cardiac event. When a cochlear implant is performed, a fatal arrhythmia is likely to occur during the perioperative period, which seriously threatens the life of the child. It is currently found that the pathogenic genes of JLNS are mainly KCNQ1 and KCNE1. This article reviews the clinical manifestations, pathogenic genes, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, intervention measures of JLNS to further draw the attention to the disease, reduce misdiagnosis, improve the survival rate and quality of life of children with JLNS.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the Cytokine of aqueous humor in AIDS patients with different eye diseases. Methods: A case-control study including 38 patients who was diagnosed as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS) at Infectious Center and Department of Ophthalmology in Beijing You'an Hospital, Capital Medical University. And 16 cases of 38 patients were cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR), 14 cases were HIV-related retinal disease, and 8 cases presented as normal. A series of tests were performed including vision acuity check, intraocular pressure, fundus photography, blood cell count of CD4+ T lymphocyte and the content of cytokines in aqueous humor by Luminex 200(TM) liquid chip analyzer. Intraocular pressure was analyzed by one-way ANOVA, visual acuity, CD4(+) T lymphocyte count and cytokines were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test, the differences between the two groups were compared by Mann-Whitney U test corrected with Bonferroni. Results: Of the 38 AIDS patients [mean age (33.7±10.0) year], 37 were males and 1 was female. The mean visual acuity of 38 patients is logMAR 1.00(0.000, 1.000). The difference of visual acuity among three groups was statistically significant (χ(2)=9.963, P=0.007). The visual acuity in CMVR group was significantly higher than that in HIV-related retinal disease group and AIDS-normal eye group. There was no statistically significant difference of intraocular pressure among three groups (F=0.830, P<0.05). The mean CD4+ T lymphocyte count was 58(4, 550)/μl and the difference was statistically significant among three groups(χ(2)=6.106, P=0.047). The CD4+ T lymphocyte count in AIDS-normal eye group was significantly higher than that in CMVR group and HIV-related retinal disease group. There was no statistically significant difference in CD4+ T lymphocyte count between HIV-related retinal disease group and CMVR group. The following cytokines in CMVR group were significantly higher than the other two groups with statistically significant differences: MIP-1b, IL-6, TNF-α, VEGF, IL-8, MCP-1, IP-10. Conclusions: In patients who was diagnosed as AIDS, cytomegalovirus retinitis would damage vision acuity seriously. The elevated cytokines' level in aqueous humor such as MIP-1b, IL-6, TNF-α, VEGF, IL-8, MCP-1, IP-10, compared with HIV-related retinal disease and AIDS-normal eye cases, may be related to the activity of Th1 cell and monocyte-macrophages system including chemokines, inflammatory factors, and vascular endothelial factors. Abstract
Background Compared to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), cervical motion segment and disc was retained through anterior transcorporeal herniotomy (ATH). But surgical field and manipulation in traditional ATH was restricted by the narrow channel. Percutaneous full-endoscopic transdiscal cervical discectomy is a minimally invasive and functional spine surgery. However, significant loss of intervertebral disc height was inevitable. This study was done to illustrate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy and present our surgical experience of percutaneous full-endoscopic anterior transcorporeal cervical discectomy (PEATCD) and channel repair (CR) for the treatment of cervical disc herniation (CDH). Methods Four patients with CDH were chosen to undergo PEATCD and CR with a follow-up care for at least 22 months. The visual analogue score (VAS), Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA), and modified Macnab criteria were recorded during the postoperative periods. CT images were obtained to observe the healing of the channel at 1 week and 3 months after the operation. Results The average operating time was 83.75 min. Drainage tubes were unnecessary. No procedure-related complications occurred. The postoperative VAS and JOA scores were improved compared to those of the preoperative assessment. The clinical efficacy was excellent in 3 patients and good in 1 patient at final follow up stage according to the modified Macnab criteria. The hernia was removed completely in all patients according to postoperative MRI. Migration of the repair implementation and collapse of the drilled vertebrae were not observed during the postoperative periods. The bony channel was nearly absent on CT images obtained at 3 months postoperative. Conclusion This is the first time that the anterior transcorporeal cervical discectomy and CR have been performed simultaneously under endoscopy. Less damage to disc and the retained cervical motion segment were achieved through this method. This is a feasible, safe, and minimally invasive procedure. Abstract
Rapid access to structurally diversified polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a controlled manner is of key significance in materials sciences. Herein, we describe a strategy featuring two distinct electrocatalytic C-H transformations for the synthesis of novel nonplanar PAHs. The combination of rhodaelectrooxidative C-H activation/[2+2+2] alkyne annulation of easily accessible boronic acids with electrocatalytic cyclodehydrogenation provided modular access to diversely substituted PAHs with electricity as a sustainable oxidant. The unique molecular topology as well as the photophysical and electronic properties of the thus obtained PAHs were fully analyzed. The unique power of this metallaelectrocatalysis method was demonstrated by the chemoselective assembly of synthetically useful iodo-substituted PAHs.

Spin-orbit torque switching in a T-type magnetic configuration with current orthogonal to easy axes. Nat Commun 2019; 10:233. Abstract
Different symmetry breaking ways determine various magnetization switching modes driven by spin–orbit torques (SOT). For instance, an applied or effective field parallel to applied current is indispensable to switch magnetization with perpendicular anisotropy by SOT. Besides of this mode, here we experimentally demonstrate a distinct field-free switching mode in a T-type magnetic system with structure of MgO/CoFeB/Ta/CoFeB/MgO where a perpendicular layer with tilted easy axis was coupled to an in-plane layer with a uniaxial easy axis. Current was applied orthogonal to both easy axes and thus also normal to an in-plane effective field experienced by the perpendicular layer. Dynamic calculation shows perpendicular layer could be switched at the same time as the in-plane layer is switched. These field-free switching modes realized in the same T-type magnetic system might expedite the birth of multi-state spin memories or spin logic devices which could be operated by all electric manners. Spin-orbit torque (SOT) induced magnetization switching facilitates all electric multi-state spin memories and spin logic devices. Here the authors show a new SOT field-free switching mode where the perpendicular layer with tilted easy axis is coupled to an in-plane layer with a uniaxial easy axis.

Abstract
In the processes of planting, harvest, transport and storage, improper treatment of Chinese materia medica (CMM) and foodstuffs and agricultural products will result in fungal growth and mycotoxins contamination, which will not only directly affect the quality, safety and efficacy of these complex matrices, but also seriously threaten the consumers' health and lives. Therefore, the establishment of high-throughout analytical methods with high sensitivity for the determination of mycotoxins in CMM and foodstuffs and agricultural products at trace levels will provide reliable references for reducing the risk of mycotoxin exposure in humans. Due to the matrix complexity of CMM and foodstuffs and agricultural products, highly-effective pretreatment technologies are necessary for the establishment of such analytical techniques. In this review, the current extraction and purification methods commonly used for the detection of mycotoxins were summarized, the importance of pretreatment techniques for the precise quantification of mycotoxins in complex matrices such as Chinese herbal medicines was highlighted, as well as the development tendency about the pretreatment techniques for mycotoxins in complex matrices in the future was proposed.

Abstract
As an important part of traditional medicine in China, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) plays a significant role because of its unique medical efficiency, less adverse reactions and extensive resources. However, in recent years, the aflatoxins in medicinal herbs have been detected excessive both at home and abroad, seriously affecting the reputation and credibility of traditional Chinese medicine. In this paper, the current status of aflatoxins contamination in medicinal herbs was analyzed, and the internal and external factors of aflatoxins contamination in traditional Chinese medicine were also summarized. In view of the high toxicity of aflatoxins, it is proposed to strengthen the mildew prevention and control from the early planting to storage stage, and the reasonable detoxification mode should also be considered. This review aims to provide a reference in guaranteeing the clinical safe administration of medicinal herbs and reducing the risk of being poisoned by aflatoxins.

Abstract
Here we report an aerobic Pd(0) catalyzed C2-H functionalization of indoles and pyrroles with tethered N-methoxylamide as the directing group. A Pd(0)-initiated mechanism overcomes the directing or poisoning effect from a wide range of heterocycles including pyridine, pyrimidine, and thiazole. The imidazo[1,5-a]indole products are transformed to bioactive analogs after one-step manipulations, demonstrating the potential utility of this reaction in drug discovery.

Abstract
Owing to the intrinsic factors and some extrinsic environmental conditions, many foods, agricultural products and Chinese materia medicas (CMMs), if not handled properly in the processes of growth, harvesting, processing and storage, can be easily contaminated by all kinds of molds to produce mycotoxins of serious toxicity, which will not only affect the quality, safety and effectiveness of CMMs, but also result in potential threatens to human and animal's health and life. Therefore, in recent decades, it has become the focus on how to prevent and control the foods, agricultural products and CMMs from being moldy and producing toxicity for scientific preservation. Many Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) especially those with high content of volatile oils with strong antifungal activities have been applied for the scientific preservation of foods, agricultural products and CMMs. Based on these situations, natural anti-mildew agents have been further developed and made into some useful dosage forms, such as tablets, aerosol, liposomes and inclusion, which will not only greatly expand the application scope of CHMs to make the use of anti-mildew agents more convenient, but also achieve the sustained or controlled release of the antifungal effect for scientific preservation of foods, agricultural products and CMMs.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the possible antibacterial components of Salvia miltiorrhizae on Pseudomonas aeruginosa using a combination of chemical fingerprint and bioactivity evaluation. The chemical fingerprints of 32 batches of S. miltiorrhizae samples from different sources were developed using high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection, and then were evaluated by similarity analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis. Anti-P. aeruginosa activity was determined by microcalorimetry. Some crucial thermokinetic parameters obtained from the heat-flow power-time curves of P. aeruginosa growth in the absence or presence of these S. miltiorrhizae samples were evaluated using principal component analysis. Thereafter, multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the fingerprint-activity relationship between the chemical fingerprints and anti-P. aeruginosa activity. This established the related equation between the inhibition ratio (I, %) of S. miltiorrhizae samples on P. aeruginosa and the peak areas of the common peaks. The results showed that the 32S. miltiorrhizae samples could be grouped into three clusters according to their chemical fingerprints and anti-P. aeruginosa activities. Protocatechualdehyde, salvianolic acid B, together with three unidentified compounds might be the major components that contributed largely to the antibacterial properties of S. miltiorrhizae and should be the focus of S. miltiorrhizae quality control. Thus, this study provided a preferred way for exploring the bioactive components of medicinal plants.

Abstract
Several nanotechnology applications are based on the promising scheme of highly anisotropic magnetic nanomaterials. Using this idea, we investigated the structure, magnetic properties, and interfacial exchange anisotropy effects of the Ni/Cr2O3 and Fe/Cr2O3 core-shell nanowires (NWs) geometry. A template-based strategy was developed to synthesize Ni (Fe)-Cr2O3 core-shell NWs, which combines a wet-chemical route and electrodeposition within the nanopores of the membranes. Structural determination in correlation with magnetic testing shows that the crystalline Cr2O3-nanoshells (NSs) cause an enhanced exchange bias, providing an extra source of anisotropy that leads to their magnetic stability. This core-shell NWs geometry, with enhanced anisotropy, should, therefore, motivate further study related to the applicability of anisotropic nanostructures. Our design opens a new pathway to obtain optimized heterostructured nanomaterials exhibiting tunable magnetic properties.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (CRP) is a commonly-used traditional Chinese medicine with flavonoids as the major bioactive components. Nevertheless, the contents of the flavonoids in CRP of different sources may significantly vary affecting their therapeutic effects. Thus, the setting up of a reliable and comprehensive quality assessment method for flavonoids in CRP is necessary. OBJECTIVE To set up a rapid and sensitive ultra-fast liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UFLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous quantification of seven bioactive flavonoids in CRP. METHODS A UFLC-MS/MS method coupled to ultrasound-assisted extraction was developed for simultaneous separation and quantification of seven flavonoids including hesperidin, neohesperidin, naringin, narirutin, tangeretin, nobiletin and sinensetin in 16 batches of CRP samples from different sources in China. RESULTS The established method showed good linearity for all analytes with correlation coefficient (R) over 0.9980, together with satisfactory accuracy, precision and reproducibility. Furthermore, the recoveries at the three spiked levels were higher than 89.71% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) lower than 5.19%. The results indicated that the contents of seven bioactive flavonoids in CRP varied significantly among different sources. Among the samples under study, hesperidin showed the highest contents in 16 samples ranged from 27.50 to 86.30 mg/g, the contents of hesperidin in CRP-15 and CRP-9 were 27.50 and 86.30 mg/g, respectively, while, the amount of narirutin was too low to be measured in some samples. CONCLUSION This study revealed that the developed UFLC-MS/MS method was simple, sensitive and reliable for simultaneous quantification of multi-components in CRP with potential perspective for quality control of complex matrices. Abstract
A method was developed for the determination of ochratoxin A (OTA) in human urine by HPLC-FLD after molecularly imprinted polymer solid phase extraction (MIP-SPE) column. After the pH being adjusted to 2.5 with 0.1 mol x L(-1) HC1, sample was cleaned up with MIP-SPE column for ochratoxin A, the analyte was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD), and finally all the positive results were confirmed by LC-MS/MS. Recoveries from urine samples spiked with OTA at levels ranging from 2 to 20 ng x mL(-1) were 90.6%-101.9%, and RSDs were 0.1%-1.6%. Sixty-five volunteers living in Beijing took part in the study, of which 5 were found containing OTA in their urine and the highest value was 0.091 ng x mL(-1). The MIP-SPE column was firstly applied to purify and concentrate OTA in human urine, this method is simple, rapid and reliable and can be used to determine the contents of OTA in human urine.

Abstract
The present paper outlined pesticide registration status for traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) and summarized the characteristics of pesticide contamination in different regions of some widely used TCMs by retrieving last 10 years' literatures. At present, the problems of pesticide residues for TCM include less pesticide registrations, widespread high-residue organochlorine pesticides contamination, pesticide abuse, irregular GAP bases and imperfect pesticide limit standards, etc. According to the current situation, we should adopt some control measures to strengthen the quality control of TCMs so as to ensure the safety of TCMs and related products.

Abstract
The contamination of extrinsic harmful contaminants including mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides, etc, brings serious risks to traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), further to human health. Due to their unique photoluminescence, chemiluminescence, electrochemical and electrochemiluminescence properties, semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) nanoparticles are widely used to immobilize bioprobes and biosensors, etc. In this review, the luminescence characteristics and specific ligands of QDs probles which are used to determine contaminants were summed up. Then, the applications of QDs-coated novel probes in the determination of mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides were discussed in detail. In addition, the contamination levels and characteristics of extrinsic harmful residues in TCMs were investigated. Further, the maximum levels of those contaminants in TCMs were compared with those set by various countries. Finally, the future development trends and problems of QDs-coated probes in the determination of those extrinsic residues in TCMs were prospected.
