[Antifungal susceptibility of clinically isolated invasive Candida tropicalis in East China from 2017 to 2021]. ZHONGHUA YU FANG YI XUE ZA ZHI [CHINESE JOURNAL OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE] 2023; 57:1542-1549. Abstract
Objective: To explore the epidemiological characteristics of sample distribution and antifungal susceptibilities of clinically invasive C. tropicalis isolates from 2017 to 2021 in East China. Methods: Using a retrospective analysis, the East China Invasive Fungal Infection Group (ECIFIG) collected C. tropicalis clinically isolated from 32 hospitals in East China between January 2017 and December 2021. The identification results of the strains were reviewed using mass spectrometry by the central laboratory of the Shanghai East Hospital. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the strains against fluconazole (FLU), voriconazole (VOR), itraconazole (ITR), Posaconazole (POS), isavuconazole (ISA), anidulafungin (ANI), caspofungin (CAS), micafungin (MICA) and 5-fluorocytosine (FCT) were tested by the ThermoFisher CMC1JHY colorimetric microdilution method. The MIC of amphotericin B (AMB) was tested by the broth microdilution method. The MIC results were analyzed based on the clinical breakpoints and epidemiological cutoff values (ECV) published by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) M27 Ed3 and M57 Ed4 documents. Data analysis was conducted using the Kruskal-Wallis test and paired t-test. Results: In total, 305 C. tropicalis isolates were collected. There were 38.0% (116/305) strains isolated from blood, 11.5% (35/305) ascites, 8.9% (27/305) catheter and 8.9% (27/305) drainage fluid. The resistance rate of C. tropicalis to FLU was 32.5%, to VOR was 28.5%, and the cross-resistance rate to FLU and VOR was 28.5%. The wild-type proportions for ITR and POS were 79.3% and 29.2% respectively. There was no significant difference in resistance rates, MIC50, and MIC90 of FLU and VOR, or in the wild-type rates of ITR and POS over five years. More than 95.0% of the isolates were susceptible to echinocandins. However, one strain was identified as being multi-drug resistant. In azole antifungals, voriconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, and isavuconazole have similar GM MIC values. The GM MIC of fluconazole is significantly higher than that of itraconazole (t=9.95, P<0.05), posaconazole (t=9.99, P<0.05), and voriconazole (t=10.01, P<0.05), Meanwhile, among echinocandins, the GM MIC of ANI was comparable to that of CAS (t=1.17, P>0.05), both of which were significantly higher than MICA (t=11.56, P<0.05; t=4.15, P<0.05). Conclusion: The clinical isolates of C. tropicalis in East China from 2017 to 2021 were relatively susceptible to echinocandins. However, there was consistently high resistance to fluconazole and voriconazole. More intensive efforts should be made on the monitoring of drug resistance in C. tropicalis.

Improved Measurement of the Evolution of the Reactor Antineutrino Flux and Spectrum at Daya Bay. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 130:211801. Abstract
Reactor neutrino experiments play a crucial role in advancing our knowledge of neutrinos. In this Letter, the evolution of the flux and spectrum as a function of the reactor isotopic content is reported in terms of the inverse-beta-decay yield at Daya Bay with 1958 days of data and improved systematic uncertainties. These measurements are compared with two signature model predictions: the Huber-Mueller model based on the conversion method and the SM2018 model based on the summation method. The measured average flux and spectrum, as well as the flux evolution with the ^{239}Pu isotopic fraction, are inconsistent with the predictions of the Huber-Mueller model. In contrast, the SM2018 model is shown to agree with the average flux and its evolution but fails to describe the energy spectrum. Altering the predicted inverse-beta-decay spectrum from ^{239}Pu fission does not improve the agreement with the measurement for either model. The models can be brought into better agreement with the measurements if either the predicted spectrum due to ^{235}U fission is changed or the predicted ^{235}U, ^{238}U, ^{239}Pu, and ^{241}Pu spectra are changed in equal measure.

Abstract
We present a new determination of the smallest neutrino mixing angle θ_{13} and the mass-squared difference Δm_{32}^{2} using a final sample of 5.55×10^{6} inverse beta-decay (IBD) candidates with the final-state neutron captured on gadolinium. This sample is selected from the complete dataset obtained by the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment in 3158 days of operation. Compared to the previous Daya Bay results, selection of IBD candidates has been optimized, energy calibration refined, and treatment of backgrounds further improved. The resulting oscillation parameters are sin^{2}2θ_{13}=0.0851±0.0024, Δm_{32}^{2}=(2.466±0.060)×10^{-3} eV^{2} for the normal mass ordering or Δm_{32}^{2}=-(2.571±0.060)×10^{-3} eV^{2} for the inverted mass ordering.

Sleep and academic performance among students in Hong Kong: Curvilinear relationship suggesting an optimal amount of sleep. Sleep Med 2023; 106:97-105. [PMID: 37079951 DOI: 10.1016/j.sleep.2023.04.001] [Citation(s) in RCA: 4] [Impact Index Per Article: 4.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/02/2022] [Revised: 03/18/2023] [Accepted: 04/01/2023] [Indexed: 04/22/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to elucidate the association between sleep and academic performance using standardized academic assessment in a large and representative sample of school children and adolescents in Hong Kong. METHODS This school-based cross-sectional study was conducted in 2016. Students completed territory-wide standardized tests in Chinese, English, and Mathematics and a set of questionnaires covering sleep, academic anxiety and motivation. Parents provided additional information on socioeconomic status and children's study behaviors. Weekday proxy sleep duration was reflected by time-in-bed, the difference between bedtime and wakeup time. RESULTS The study included 4262 Grade 3 (G.3) (mean age [SD], 9.2 [0.6] years; girls: 49.7%) and 3297 G.9 students (mean age [SD], 15.3 [0.74]; girls: 57.5%) from 77 schools. Apart from showing a general insufficiency of students' sleep in this metropolitan city, there was a significant quadratic relationship (G.3: β = -0.05, p < .001; G.9: β = -0.03, p < .01), indicating that students with an optimal level of sleep (9.5 h and 8.5 h in G.3 and G.9, respectively) tend to have better academic performance. The significant association remained after controlling for socioeconomic and study-related variables in that sleeping too little or too much was associated with poor academic performance. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to explore the curvilinear association between sleep duration and academic performance by using standardized test and simultaneously examining learning-related controls with a large representative sample in Hong Kong. The findings suggested that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between sleep duration and academic performance in both school-aged children and adolescents. It is recommended that systematic sleep education and intervention is necessary to encourage the development of optimal sleep pattern, which might have beneficial effect on academic performance for students at both primary and secondary level.

Abstract
With the COVID-19 outbreak, emergency remote teaching - an unprepared distant mode of education became the only possible alternative for schools. The present large-scale survey with 3,672 Grade 3 and 9 students, their parents, and 863 teachers/principals was conducted in the metropolitan city of Hong Kong after half a year of school lockdown. Results showed teachers, principals, and parents were worried about students' inability to concentrate and learn without teachers' explanations. In contrast, students, particularly younger ones, were less affected. They perceived their academic achievement was not worsened and they were more lively. Generally, lack of computers and stable internet was not seen as problems. Notably, socially disadvantaged students were not different in their perceived challenges, affects, life satisfaction, or perceived academic achievement. For cities with adequate provision of computers and internet facilities, the pandemic probably forced a positive and giant leap in using advanced technologies and pedagogies.

Abstract
In the current stage of prevention and control of the Omicron variant of the pandemic, makeshift hospitals played a key role in isolating and treating mild and asymptomatic patient, which helped to completely and quickly block the spread of the epidemic in the society. In order to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 in makeshift hospital, prevent occupational exposure and nosocomial infections, it is necessary for all levels to actively identify risk sources, carry the risk assessment, implement comprehensive infection control risk treat, and supervise in a timely manner.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the impact of empagliflozin on peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) in patients with heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF). Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, consecutive HFmrEF patients admitted to the Department of Cardiology of China-Japan Friendship Hospital from September 2019 to October 2020 were screened, and randomly assigned to empagliflozin group (EG) or conventional group (CG) using a random number table. The enrolled patients were treated according to the guidelines, and patients in the empagliflozin group received additional empagliflozin (10 mg, once a day, orally) on top of the conventional treatment. The primary end points were VO2peak at 6 months after treatment, and the secondary end points included other parameters of cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET), 6-minute walking distance, N-terminal B-type pro-natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level, and Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) score. Results: A total of 112 patients were included (mean age 69 (57, 78) years, 84 male (75.0%)). There were 55 cases in CG group and 57 cases in EG group. There were no significant differences in baseline data including age, sex, body mass index, left ventricular ejection fraction, systolic blood pressure, heart rate, estimated glomerular filtration rate, glycosylated hemoglobin, hemoglobin, NT-proBNP, daily dose of tolasemi, combined medication, CPET parameters, the proportion of New York Heart Association heart function Ⅲ/Ⅳ, history of coronary heart disease, history of hypertension, history of diabetes (all P>0.05). At 6 months after treatment, VO2peak was significantly higher in EG group than in CG group(P=0.023). VE/VCO2 slope was significantly lower in EG group than in CG group(P=0.034). Oxygen uptake efficiency slope was significantly higher in EG group than in CG group(P=0.038). The level of NT-proBNP was significantly lower in EG group than in CG group(P=0.020). Six-minute walking distance was significantly higher in EG group than in CG group(P=0.037). KCCQ score was significantly higher in EG group than in CG group(P=0.048). Exercise oscillatory ventilation decreased in both groups (1 case in each group, P>0.05). Conclusion: Empagliflozin can significantly improve VO2peak in patients with HFmrEF.

Abstract
This Letter reports the first measurement of high-energy reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay, with nearly 9000 inverse beta decay candidates in the prompt energy region of 8-12 MeV observed over 1958 days of data collection. A multivariate analysis is used to separate 2500 signal events from background statistically. The hypothesis of no reactor antineutrinos with neutrino energy above 10 MeV is rejected with a significance of 6.2 standard deviations. A 29% antineutrino flux deficit in the prompt energy region of 8-11 MeV is observed compared to a recent model prediction. We provide the unfolded antineutrino spectrum above 7 MeV as a data-based reference for other experiments. This result provides the first direct observation of the production of antineutrinos from several high-Q_{β} isotopes in commercial reactors.

Pulsed Electric Field Treatments with Nonlethal Field Strength Alter the Properties of Bacterial Spores. J Food Prot 2022; 85:1053-1060. Abstract
ABSTRACT Pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment, an alternative to thermal processing in the food industry, is insufficient to inactivate bacterial spores. Although spores that have been treated in this manner remain alive, specific understanding of their physiological properties is limited. The purpose of this study is to describe the morphology, viability, and germination behavior of Bacillus atrophaeus spores treated with PEF. Our findings indicate that nonlethal PEF treatment results in spore deformation, dipicolinic acid (DPA) leakage, and a shorter and more uniform germination lag time (\(\def\upalpha{\unicode[Times]{x3B1}}\)\(\def\upbeta{\unicode[Times]{x3B2}}\)\(\def\upgamma{\unicode[Times]{x3B3}}\)\(\def\updelta{\unicode[Times]{x3B4}}\)\(\def\upvarepsilon{\unicode[Times]{x3B5}}\)\(\def\upzeta{\unicode[Times]{x3B6}}\)\(\def\upeta{\unicode[Times]{x3B7}}\)\(\def\uptheta{\unicode[Times]{x3B8}}\)\(\def\upiota{\unicode[Times]{x3B9}}\)\(\def\upkappa{\unicode[Times]{x3BA}}\)\(\def\uplambda{\unicode[Times]{x3BB}}\)\(\def\upmu{\unicode[Times]{x3BC}}\)\(\def\upnu{\unicode[Times]{x3BD}}\)\(\def\upxi{\unicode[Times]{x3BE}}\)\(\def\upomicron{\unicode[Times]{x3BF}}\)\(\def\uppi{\unicode[Times]{x3C0}}\)\(\def\uprho{\unicode[Times]{x3C1}}\)\(\def\upsigma{\unicode[Times]{x3C3}}\)\(\def\uptau{\unicode[Times]{x3C4}}\)\(\def\upupsilon{\unicode[Times]{x3C5}}\)\(\def\upphi{\unicode[Times]{x3C6}}\)\(\def\upchi{\unicode[Times]{x3C7}}\)\(\def\uppsy{\unicode[Times]{x3C8}}\)\(\def\upomega{\unicode[Times]{x3C9}}\)\(\def\bialpha{\boldsymbol{\alpha}}\)\(\def\bibeta{\boldsymbol{\beta}}\)\(\def\bigamma{\boldsymbol{\gamma}}\)\(\def\bidelta{\boldsymbol{\delta}}\)\(\def\bivarepsilon{\boldsymbol{\varepsilon}}\)\(\def\bizeta{\boldsymbol{\zeta}}\)\(\def\bieta{\boldsymbol{\eta}}\)\(\def\bitheta{\boldsymbol{\theta}}\)\(\def\biiota{\\boldsymbol{\iota}}\)\(\def\bikappa{\boldsymbol{\kappa}}\)\(\def\bilambda{\boldsymbol{\lambda}}\)\(\def\\bimu{\boldsymbol{\mu}}\)\(\def\binu{\boldsymbol{\nu}}\)\(\def\bixi{\boldsymbol{\xi}}\)\(\def\biomicron{\boldsymbol{\micron}}\)\(\def\bipi{\boldsymbol{\pi}}\)\(\def\birho{\boldsymbol{\rho}}\)\(\def\bisigma{\boldsymbol{\sigma}}\)\(\def\bitau{\boldsymbol{\\tau}}\)\(\def\biupsilon{\boldsymbol{\upsilon}}\)\(\def\biphi{\boldsymbol{\phi}}\)\(\def\bichi{\boldsymbol{\chi}}\)\(\def\bipsy{\boldsymbol{\psy}}\)\(\def\biomega{\boldsymbol{\omega}}\)\(\def\bupalpha{\bf{\alpha}}\)\(\def\bupbeta{\bf{\beta}}\)\(\def\bupgamma{\bf{\gamma}}\)\(\def\bupdelta{\bf{\delta}}\)\(\def\bupvarepsilon{\bf{\varepsilon}}\)\(\def\bupzeta{\bf{\zeta}}\)\(\def\bupeta{\bf{\eta}}\)\(\def\buptheta{\bf{\theta}}\)\(\def\bupiota{\bf{\iota}}\)\(\def\bupkappa{\bf{\kappa}}\)\(\def\\buplambda{\bf{\lambda}}\)\(\def\bupmu{\bf{\mu}}\)\(\def\bupnu{\bf{\nu}}\)\(\def\bupxi{\bf{\xi}}\)\(\def\bupomicron{\bf{\micron}}\)\(\def\buppi{\bf{\pi}}\)\(\def\buprho{\bf{\rho}}\)\(\def\bupsigma{\bf{\sigma}}\)\(\def\buptau{\bf{\tau}}\)\(\def\bupupsilon{\bf{\upsilon}}\)\(\def\bupphi{\bf{\phi}}\)\(\def\bupchi{\bf{\chi}}\)\(\def\buppsy{\bf{\psy}}\)\(\def\bupomega{\bf{\omega}}\)\(\def\bGamma{\bf{\Gamma}}\)\(\def\bDelta{\bf{\Delta}}\)\(\def\bTheta{\bf{\Theta}}\)\(\def\bLambda{\bf{\Lambda}}\)\(\def\bXi{\bf{\Xi}}\)\(\def\bPi{\bf{\Pi}}\)\(\def\bSigma{\bf{\Sigma}}\)\(\def\bPhi{\bf{\Phi}}\)\(\def\bPsi{\bf{\Psi}}\)\(\def\bOmega{\bf{\Omega}}\)\({T_{{\rm{lag}}}}\)), but that there is no change in release duration (\(\Delta {T_{{\rm{release}}}}\)), germination ratio, or viability. Based on our findings, we conclude that an intact morphologic state and DPA content are not prerequisites for germination and full viability and that, in contrast to nutrient-induced germination in which initially slowly released DPA triggers subsequent germination events, leaked DPA during PEF treatment does not. Spores that have been subjected to this procedure remain dormant and preserve their full germinability. We found that PEF-treated spores respond to germinants more quickly and with less heterogeneity, possibly because the tiny cracks formed on the spore surface facilitate the germinants' access to the germination receptors situated on the spore's inner membrane. The consensus view that nonlethal PEF has less impact on spores that are still capable of forming CFUs under proper conditions is one-sided. This research advances our understanding of how spores behave following nonlethal PEF treatment and gives information on the topics of nosocomial sterilization, food safety, and public health. Abstract
A joint determination of the reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu has been carried out by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT Collaborations. This Letter reports the level of consistency of ^{235}U spectrum measurements from the two experiments and presents new results from a joint analysis of both data sets. The measurements are found to be consistent. The combined analysis reduces the degeneracy between the dominant ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu isotopes and improves the uncertainty of the ^{235}U spectral shape to about 3%. The ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu antineutrino energy spectra are unfolded from the jointly deconvolved reactor spectra using the Wiener-SVD unfolding method, providing a data-based reference for other reactor antineutrino experiments and other applications. This is the first measurement of the ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu spectra based on the combination of experiments at low- and highly enriched uranium reactors.

Effect of oxygen on the germination and culturability of Bacillus atrophaeus spores. Int Microbiol 2022; 25:353-363. Abstract
The effect of oxygen on the germination and culturability of aerobic Bacillus atrophaeus spores was investigated in this study. Under oxic or anoxic conditions, various nutritional and non-nutritional germinants were utilized to induce germination. Tb3+-dipicolinic acid fluorescence assay and phase-contrast microscopy were used to track the germination process. The final germination level, germination half time, and germination speed were used to define germination kinetics. Colony-forming unit enumeration was used to assess the culturability of germinated spores germinated with or without oxygen. The results show that in the absence of oxygen, the final germination level was unaffected, germination half time decreased by up to 35.0%, germination speed increased by up to 27.4%, and culturability decreased by up to 95.1%. It is suggested that oxygen affects some germinant receptor-dependent germination pathways, implying that biomolecules engaged in these pathways may be oxygen-sensitive. Furthermore, spores that have completed the germination process in either anoxic or oxic conditions may have different culturability. This research contributed to a better understanding of the fundamental mechanism of germination.

Abstract
Based on the well-known principle of selective photothermolysis, laser has been a promising way for the treatment of port wine stains (PWSs). The laser wavelengths used for PWS's clinical treatment include but are not limited to pulsed dye laser (PDL) in 585-600 nm, long-pulse 755-nm alexandrite, and 1064-nm Nd:YAG lasers. The objective of this study was to investigate the optimal wavelength for PWS's laser treatment. A two-scale mathematic model was constructed to simultaneously quantify macroscale laser energy attenuation in two-layered bulk skin and microscale local energy absorption on target blood vessels within Krogh unit. The effects of morphological parameters, including epidermal melanin content, epidermal thickness, dermal blood content, blood vessel depth, and diameter on laser energy deposition within target blood vessels, were investigated from the visible to near-infrared bands (500-1100 nm). The energy deposition ratio of target blood vessel to epidermal surface was proposed to determine the optimal laser wavelength for PWS with different skin morphological parameters. The bioheat transfer modeling and animal experiment are also conducted to prove our wavelength optimization. The optimal wavelengths for lightly pigmented skin with small and shallow target blood vessels are 580-610 nm in the visible band. This wavelength coincides with commercially used PDL. The optimal wavelength shifts to 940 nm as the epidermal pigmentation increases or the size and blood vessel depth increases. The optimal wavelength changes to 1005 nm as the epidermal pigmentation or the size and burying depth of target blood vessel further increases. Nine hundred forty nanometers can be selected as a general wavelength in PWS treatment to meet the need in most widely morphological structure. Lasers with wavelengths in the 580-610, 940, and 1005 nm regions are effective for treating PWS because of their high optical selectivity in blood over the epidermis.

Abstract
Intramuscular fat content (IFC) is an essential quantitative trait of meat, affecting multiple meat quality indicators. A certain amount of IFC could not only improve the sensory score of pork but also increase the flavour, tenderness, juiciness and shelf-life. To dissect the genetic determinants of IFC, two methods, including genome-wide efficient mixed-model analysis (GEMMA) and linkage disequilibrium adjusted kinships (LDAKs), were used to carry out genome-wide association studies for IFC in Suhuai pig population. A total of 14 and 18 significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified by GEMMA and LDAK, respectively. The results of these two methods were highly consistent and all 14 significant SNPs in GEMMA were detected by LDAK. Seven of the 18 SNPs reached the genome-wide significance level (P < 9.85E-07) while 11 cases reached the suggestive significance level (P < 1.77E-05). These significant SNPs were mainly distributed on Sus scrofa chromosome (SSC) 5, 3, and 7. Moreover, one locus resides in a 2.27 Mb (71.37-73.64 Mb) region on SSC5 harbouring 13 significant SNPs associated with IFC, and the lead SNP (rs81302978) also locates in this region. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis showed that there were four pairs of complete LD (r2 = 1) among these 13 SNPs, and the remaining 9 SNPs with incomplete LD (r2 ≠ 1) were selected for subsequent analyses of IFC. Association analyses showed that 7 out of 9 SNPs were significantly associated with IFC (P < 0.05) in 330 Suhuai pigs, and the other 2 SNPs tended to reach a significant association level with IFC (P < 0.1). The phenotypic variance explained (PVE) range of these 9 SNPs was 0.92-3.55%. Meanwhile, the lead SNP was also significantly associated (rs81302978) with IFC (P < 0.05) in 378 commercial hybrid pigs (Pietrain × Duroc) × (Landrace × Yorkshire) (PDLY), and the PVE was 1.38%. Besides, two lipid metabolism-relevant candidate genes, the leucine rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) and PDZ domain containing ring finger 4 (PDZRN4) were identified in the 2.27 Mb region on SSC5. In conclusion, our results may provide a set of markers useful for genetic improvement of IFC in pigs and will advance the genome selection process of IFC on pig breeding programmes.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate and analyze the energy metabolism characteristics and the correlation between energy metabolism and the risk of secondary bacterial infection in patients with hepatitis B virus-related chronic liver disease (HBV-CLD). Methods: Data of 183 cases admitted to the Mengchao Hepatobiliary Hospital of Fujian Medical University from November 2017 to November 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. 79 cases of chronic hepatitis B, 51 cases of hepatitis B-related liver cirrhosis, and 53 cases of hepatitis B-related liver failure were collected. Among them patients with liver failure and decompensated liver cirrhosis were defined as severe liver disease group. The Quark RMR indirect calorimetry (COSMED Corporation, Italy) was used to exam the patients' energy metabolism condition, and the incidences of secondary bacterial infection of the patients during hospitalization were recorded. Shapiro-Wilk test and normal QQ plot were used to analyze the normal distribution of continuous variable data, which was consistent with the normal distribution and was described by mean ± standard deviation. In addition, if it did not conform to the normal distribution, the median and interquartile distance were used to describe it. Levene's test was used to test the homogeneity of variance of the data, which was consistent with the normal distribution. The t-test was used to compare the means of the two groups of samples. One-way analysis of variance was used to compare the mean values of the three groups of samples, and then the Tukey's test was used to compare the two groups. If the variance was uneven or did not conform to the normal distribution, the Wilcoxon rank sum test was used to compare the differences between the two groups. Kruskal-Wallis test (H test) was used to compare the differences between the three groups of samples, and then the Dunnett's test (Z test) was used for comparison between the two groups. Categorical variable data were analyzed using chi-square test. Logistic regression analysis was used to screen independent risk factors, and the criteria for variable inclusion (P < 0.05). Results: The respiratory entropy (RQ) and non-protein respiratory entropy (npRQ) of the three groups had statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Among them, the RQ and npRQ of the chronic hepatitis B group were higher than hepatitis B-related liver cirrhosis group and hepatitis B-related liver failure group. There were statistically significant differences in fat oxidation rate (FAT%) and carbohydrate oxidation rate (CHO%) between the three groups (P < 0.05). Compared with hepatitis B-related liver cirrhosis group and hepatitis B-related liver failure group, chronic hepatitis B group (P < 0.05) had lower FAT% and higher CHO%. There were no statistically significant differences in the measured and predicted resting energy expenditure and protein oxidation rate (PRO%) between the three groups. The incidence of secondary bacterial infection in patients with severe liver disease was 48.39% (45/93). Compared with the non-infected group, the RQ and npRQ values of the infected group were significantly decreased (P < 0.05), while FAT% was significantly increased (P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that glutamyltransferase, cholesterol, and npRQ were independent risk factors for secondary bacterial infections in patients with severe liver disease. Glutamyltransferase elevation, and cholesterol and npRQ depletion had suggested an increased risk of secondary bacterial infection. Subgroup analysis of patients with hepatitis B-related liver failure also showed that compared with non-infected group, RQ value and npRQ value of secondary bacterial infection group were significantly decreased (P < 0.05), while FAT% was significantly increased (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Patients with hepatitis B virus-related chronic liver disease generally have abnormal energy metabolism. Low RQ, npRQ, CHO% and high FAT% are related to the severity of the disease; while npRQ reduction is related to the risk of secondary bacterial infection in patients with severe liver disease, and thus can be used as a clinical prognostic indicator.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the phenotypes and genotypes of molybdenum cofactor deficiency type B (MoCD-B) manifested as Leigh-like syndrome. Methods: The clinical data, laboratory tests, neuroimaging and gene results of one patient diagnosed as MoCD-B at Beijing Children's Hospital and Hebei Children's Hospital in December 2018 were collected. Related literature was searched and reviewed at Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and PubMed (up to September 2020) by using terms "MOCS2" "molybdenum cofactor deficiency" "Leigh-like syndrome,MOCS2" "molybdenum cofactor deficiency, Leigh-like syndrome". The phenotypes and genotypes of MoCD-B were summarized. Results: A 7 months and 14 days old boy with the chief complaint of "cough for 6 days, abnormal posture for 4 days and fever for 2 days" was admitted to Hebei Children' Hospital on December 2018. His abnormal posture presented as opisthotonos accompanied with dysphagia, without seizures. His previous psychomotor development was described as normal. He was born at term after an uneventful pregnancy to non-consanguineous parents. Blood test showed a slightly increased lactic acid and a significantly decreased uric acid. Urine metabolism test showed an obviously increased xanthine and hypoxanthine. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed hyperintense signal on T2 weighted image and fluid attenuated inversion recovery in bilateral globus pallidus and pedunculus cerebri. The patient was diagnosed with Leigh-like syndrome. No obvious improvement was achieved after cocktail therapy and symptomatic treatment. The whole exome sequencing showed that the patient carried a homozygous variant of MOCS2 gene, c.19G>T(p.Val7Phe), which was a previously reported pathogenic site in the literature and could cause MoCD-B. His parents carried a heterozygous variant respectively. A total of 41 MoCD-B cases with MOCS2 gene variants were collected through literature review and our study, among which 30 cases had full medical records. The onset ages of 23 (77%) cases were in neonate, manifesting with severe encephalopathy, including neonatal-onset intractable seizures, developmental delay, laboratory abnormalities included very low levels of serum and urinary uric acid, increased urinary levels of xanthine and hypoxanthine. Cranial imaging showed cerebral atrophy, cystic encephalomalacia, etc. The onset ages of 7 patients varied from 5 months to 23 years. Four cases had normal psychomotor development before disease onset. Neurological disorders appeared acutely or exacerbated after external triggers and all of them had basal ganglia involvement. Among the 30 cases, 3 cases had a relatively milder phenotype with the ability of brief communication and walking without or with support. Conclusions: Molybdenum cofactor deficiency is a rare disease. Most cases had severe phenotypes and poor outcomes, but some cases may have mild phenotype. MoCD-B caused by MOCS2 gene variants may manifest as Leigh-like syndrome with a normal psychomotor development before the trigger of infection strike. Hypouricemia, xanthinuria and hypoxanthinuria can be indicators of the disease. The presence of MOCS2 gene variants would confirm a final diagnosis.

Abstract
Searches for electron antineutrino, muon neutrino, and muon antineutrino disappearance driven by sterile neutrino mixing have been carried out by the Daya Bay and MINOS+ collaborations. This Letter presents the combined results of these searches, along with exclusion results from the Bugey-3 reactor experiment, framed in a minimally extended four-neutrino scenario. Significantly improved constraints on the θ_{μe} mixing angle are derived that constitute the most constraining limits to date over five orders of magnitude in the mass-squared splitting Δm_{41}^{2}, excluding the 90% C.L. sterile-neutrino parameter space allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE observations at 90% CL_{s} for Δm_{41}^{2}<13 eV^{2}. Furthermore, the LSND and MiniBooNE 99% C.L. allowed regions are excluded at 99% CL_{s} for Δm_{41}^{2}<1.6 eV^{2}.

Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the effect of minimally invasive lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF/OLIF) on the sagittal balance of adult degenerative scoliosis. Methods: From January 2014 to June 2017, a total of 23 patients with degenerative scoliosis underwent staged minimally invasive surgery in Shanghai Ruijin Hospital. All patients were implanted with LLIF or OLIF cage from the lateral approach first, and was followed by the posterior percutaneous pedicle screw fixation or pedicle screw fixation via Wiltse approach. If the sagittal deformity correction was not satisfactory after the first surgery, a posterior osteotomy can be performed during the second stage operation. A biplanar X-ray of the whole spine was taken with the EOS imaging system before and after surgery. The EOS software was used to measure and evaluate the patient's sagittal balance parameters including pelvic incidence (PI), pelvic tilt (PT), lumbar lordosis (LL), the sagittal vertical axis (SVA) and the coronal Cobb angle. The visual analogue scale (VAS) score for low back pain, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score were evaluated before and after surgery. Paired t test or repeated measures ANOVA was used to compare the data before and after surgery. Results: There were 6 males and 17 females with a mean age of (72±4) years (62-79 years). Nine patients were treated with LLIF and 14 patients with OLIF. Sixteen cases were implanted with three cages, five with two cages and two with four cages. The mean follow-up period was 24.2 months (15-42 months). After the first operation, the Cobb angle of the patient was significantly improved (18°±7° vs 33°±8°, t=13.2, P<0.01). All the parameters for sagittal balance, including PI-LL (20°±8° vs 31°±8(o)), SVA ((5.3±2.0) cm vs (8.2±3.5) cm), PT (16°±6° vs 23°±4°) were all significantly improved as well (t=6.8, 4.5, 9.0, ALL P<0.01). At the last follow-up, the VAS score of low back pain (3.4±1.1 vs 6.3±1.0) and ODI scores (27.3%±3.0% vs 47.1%±5.9%) were also significantly improved (t=11.3, 17.8, both P<0.01). No major complications occurred in this group. Conclusions: Minimally invasive LLIF/OLIF can significantly improve the coronal and sagittal balance of adult degenerative scoliosis. Staged minimally invasive surgery can significantly alleviate pain and improve function in these patients.

Abstract
This Letter reports the first extraction of individual antineutrino spectra from ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu fission and an improved measurement of the prompt energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay. The analysis uses 3.5×10^{6} inverse beta-decay candidates in four near antineutrino detectors in 1958 days. The individual antineutrino spectra of the two dominant isotopes, ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu, are extracted using the evolution of the prompt spectrum as a function of the isotope fission fractions. In the energy window of 4-6 MeV, a 7% (9%) excess of events is observed for the ^{235}U (^{239}Pu) spectrum compared with the normalized Huber-Mueller model prediction. The significance of discrepancy is 4.0σ for ^{235}U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at 5.3σ. In the energy range of 4-6 MeV, a maximal local discrepancy of 6.3σ is observed.

Abstract
We describe a case of Cogan syndrome in patients with clinical manifestations, related examinations and diagnosis, treatment, and review of relevant literature. Both patients had bilateral moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss. The collateral function test showed that there were bilateral semicircular canal paresis, and the head impulse test had a bilateral gain value between 0.09 and 0.55. It showed obvious compensatory saccade wave, the head impulse suppression test bilateral no anti-compensation saccade wave.Cogan syndrome is a rare syndrome with unspecific symptoms and early diagnosis is difficult. However, the involvement of the auditory vestibular systems are often poor prognosis and needs to be diagnosed by early diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
Objective: To compare and analyze the effects of different activators on the release curve of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB in platelet rich plasma(PRP). Methods: A total of 36 ml peripheral venous blood was obtained from 10 healthy adult volunteers, and the PRP was made by secondary centrifugation. The platelet activator was made by bovine thrombin 1 000 U in 1 ml 10% calcium chloride solution. The Thrombin-PRP group was made by PRP and the activator in a ratio of 10∶1.The Calcium chloride-PRP group was made in a ratio of 10∶1 by PRP and 10% calcium chloride solution instead. The fresh whole blood(whole blood group) and inactived PRP(PRP group) were used as the control groups. The 4 groups were incubated in warm water of 37 ℃ for 0, 1, 8, 24,72 and 168 h. A quantitative sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA) was used to examine the amount of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB in different time points of each group. The release curves of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB were based on afore-mentioned data, and then comparisons of the release curves of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB in different groups were performed by repeated measurement variance analysis. Results: (1)The levels of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB in the whole blood group and the PRP group continued to increase within 168 h. PRP immediately formed into a gel after mixture with thrombin combined and calcium chloride, and the concentrations of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB reached the peak in 1 h after activation; increased from (42±21)ng/ml and (77±18)ng/ml to (84±21)ng/ml and (124±35)ng/ml, respectively, and then decreased gradually. The release curve was direct and rapid. The PRP became a gel state in approximate 1 h after mixture with calcium chloride, and the concentrations of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB were slowly rising and remained high at 168 h. (2)The AUC(0-168h) of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB in the PRP group was higher than that in the whole blood group (all P<0.05) , and the AUC(0-168h) of TGF-β(1) in the Calcium chloride-PRP group was higher than that in the Thrombin-PRP group(Z=-2.26, P<0.05).However, there was no significant difference in the AUC(0-168h) of PDGF-AB between the Calcium chloride-PRP group and the Thrombin-PRP group(Z=-1.512, P=0.131). Conclusion: Using calcium chloride as activator can get a higher release concentration of TGF-β(1) and PDGF-AB and a longer release time, with the largest area under the curve.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE With the evolution of assisted fertility and prenatal diagnostic technology, the prevalence of multi-fetal pregnancy increased, followed by the demand for prenatal intervention if genomic aberration was detected. How to distinguish the affected foetus from the normal co-twin before selective fetal reduction is therefore challenging. OBJECTIVES We retrospectively reviewed the cases of dichorionic twins at our centre during 2004-2018, where selective fetal reduction was requested because one foetus carried a pathogenic genomic aberration. Five cases were enrolled, including three foetuses with trisomy 21, one foetus with microduplication and one foetus with microdeletion disorders. METHOD We labelled the affected foetus by prenatal ultrasound and rapid molecular tools. For the twins without discriminating sonographic features (e.g., the same gender and no distinct placentae), interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization, rapid microarray and short tandem repeat markers were applied to identify the affected foetus. RESULTS Selective fetal reduction was allocated accurately for all individuals. Two cases delivered at term, while two delivered preterm, and one developed fetal loss of the co-twin. CONCLUSION We proposed a working scheme of integrating imaging and molecular techniques to correctly identify the affected co-twin before selective fetal reduction to ensure the accuracy of the identification.

Abstract
We report a measurement of electron antineutrino oscillation from the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment with nearly 4 million reactor ν[over ¯]_{e} inverse β decay candidates observed over 1958 days of data collection. The installation of a flash analog-to-digital converter readout system and a special calibration campaign using different source enclosures reduce uncertainties in the absolute energy calibration to less than 0.5% for visible energies larger than 2 MeV. The uncertainty in the cosmogenic ^{9}Li and ^{8}He background is reduced from 45% to 30% in the near detectors. A detailed investigation of the spent nuclear fuel history improves its uncertainty from 100% to 30%. Analysis of the relative ν[over ¯]_{e} rates and energy spectra among detectors yields sin^{2}2θ_{13}=0.0856±0.0029 and Δm_{32}^{2}=(2.471_{-0.070}^{+0.068})×10^{-3} eV^{2} assuming the normal hierarchy, and Δm_{32}^{2}=-(2.575_{-0.070}^{+0.068})×10^{-3} eV^{2} assuming the inverted hierarchy.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role of high-mobility group box protein 1 (HMGB1) in the signaling pathways of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) in rats. Methods: Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 200-250 g, were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=10) using a random number table: sham operation group (group sham), MIRI group (group IR-C), anti-HMGB1 antibody group (group IR-H-Ig), contrast antibody control group (group IR-Ig). The rat model of MIRI was established by 30 min occlusion of left anterior descending branch (LAD) of coronary artery followed by 180 min reperfusion. In sham group, no blocking of LAD was adopted after thoracotomy. Anti-HMGB1 antibody and contrast antibody immunoglobulin G (IgG) (2 mg/kg) were injected respectively at 30 min of reperfusion in IR-H-Ig and IR-Ig groups. Blood samples were collected from the femoral vein for determination of interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), HMGB1, creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) concentrations at 180 min of reperfusion. The rats were then sacrificed after blood samples were taken and the pathological changes of myocardial tissue were observed. The mRNA and protein expressions of HMGB1, toll-like receptor 4(TLR4) and nuclear factor (NF)-κB in myocardial tissues were detected by Western blot and real-time quantitative PCR respectively. Results: Compared with the Sham group, the plasma level of IL-6, TNF-α, HMGB1 increased significantly and HMGB1, TLR4 and NF-κB mRNA and protein levels of myocardial tissues up-regulated in IR-C and IR-Ig groups (all P<0.05). The plasma level of CK-MB and cTnI increased significantly in IR-C, IR-H-Ig, IR-Ig group (all P<0.05). Compared with the IR-C group, the levels of the plasma HMGB1, the cytokines mentioned above, CK-MB and cTnI were significantly decreased, and mRNA and protein expressions of HMGB1, TLR4 and NF-κB of myocardial tissues down-regulated in IR-H-Ig group (all P<0.05). Inflammatory cell infiltration in MIRI groups increased significantly, while it was significantly reduced in IR-H-Ig group. Conclusion: Blocking the combination of HMGB1 and TLR4 can effectively alleviate the tissue damage caused by myocardial ischemia-reperfusion in rats.

Abstract
The Sine oculis homeobox 1 (Six1) gene is important for skeletal muscle growth and fiber specification; therefore, it is considered as a promising candidate gene that may influence porcine growth and meat quality traits. Nevertheless, the association of Six1 with these processes and the mechanisms regulating its expression remain unclear. The objectives of this study were to identify variant sites of Six1 in different pig breeds, conduct association analysis to evaluate the relationship between polymorphisms of these variants and porcine production traits in Pietrain × Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire commercial pigs, and explore the potential regulatory mechanisms of Six1 affecting production traits. A total of 12 variants were identified, including 10 single- nucleotide variations (SNVs), 1 insertion- deletion (Indel), and 1 (AC)n microsatellite. Association analysis demonstrated that the SNV, g.1595A>G, was significantly associated with meat color (redness, a*); individuals with the G allele had greater a* values (P < 0.05). Moreover, our results demonstrated that the (AC)n polymorphism in the Six1 promoter was significantly associated with weaning weight (P < 0.05), carcass weight (P < 0.05), and thoracic and lumbar back fat (P < 0.01).In addition, we found that the (AC)n variant was closely related with Six1 expression levels and demonstrated this polymorphism on promoter activity by in vitro experiments. Overall, this study provides novel evidence for elucidating the effects of Six1 on porcine production traits as promising candidate and describes two variants with these traits, which are potential reference markers for pig molecular breeding. In addition, our data on the relationship between porcine Six1 expression and the polymorphic (AC)n microsatellite in its promoter may facilitate similar studies in other species.

Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of restoring the balance in the coronal and sagittal planes and to evaluate clinical outcomes in the treatment of severe adult degenerative scoliosis patients using staged lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) and percutaneous transpedicle screw fixation (pTSF). Methods: A retrospective analysis was made on 13 patients with severe adult degenerative scoliosis treated with staged surgery in Ruijin Hospital between May, 2014 and July, 2015. The operation data were collected, including operation time, estimated blood loss, and complications. Preoperative and postoperative standing anteroposterior and lateral lumbar radiographs were obtained by EOS image system in all patients for measurement of sagittal and coronal plane alignment. All patients were available for at least 24 months of following-up (18-32 months). Paired sample t test was used to compare the parameters of each group pre- and post-operation. Results: All of the 13 patients received LLIF with staged transpedicle screw fixation. Mean operation time was (231±48) minutes and (155±33) minutes for two-stage surgery. Mean blood loss was (253±80) ml during one-stage LLIF surgery and (326±99) ml during two-stage pTSF surgery. The interval between two surgical procedures was from 7 to 42 days (mean 14 days). In the coronal plane, the mean Cobb angle of curves was 43.1°±7.3° preoperatively, and it was 11.4°±4.0°after one-stage LLIF (t=10.16, P<0.001) and 5.5°±1.9° after two-stage pTSF (t=6.14, P<0.001). In the sagittal plane, lumbar lordosis (LL) changed after each procedure was as follows: LLIF from 16.8°±8.4° to 30.1°±6.8° (t=5.21, P<0.001) and PSF to 37.1°±4.0° (t=5.04, P<0.001). Sagittal vertical axis (SVA) was reduced from (10.5±2.4) cm to (5.3±2.1) cm after one-stage LLIF (t=8.52, P<0.001) and to (3.1±1.5) cm after two-stage pTSF (t=5.51, P<0.001). In the spino-pelvic parameter, pelvic incidence(PI)-LL mismatch decreased from 33.6°±9.6° to 17.8°±4.5° (t=5.31, P<0.001) after LLIF and to 9.9°±3.7° after pTSF (t=4.68, P<0.001). The visual analogue scale (VAS) of low back pain and leg pain and the Oswestry dability Index (ODI) improved significantly at the last follow-up (t=10.42, 8.94, 19.20, all P<0.01). Conclusions: LLIF significantly improves segmental and coronal plane alignment in patients with degenerative lumbar scoliosis, and these patients can be effectively corrected by staged minimally invasive surgery.

Abstract
Mounting evidence indicates that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a critical role in tumorigenesis. LncRNA LINC00313 has been found to be up-regulated and associated with poor prognosis in lung cancer. However, the potential role and clinical value of LINC00313 in human papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) remain elusive and therefore require examination. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of LINC00313 in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). We found its expression was significantly up-regulated in PTC tissues and cell lines and that this up-regulation correlated with poor prognosis. In vitro experiments indicated that down-regulation of LINC00313 inhibited proliferation and the migratory and colony-forming abilities of PTC cells. Moreover, silencing LINC00313 induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in the PTC cells. In addition, mechanism studies showed that LINC00313 down-regulates miR-4429 expression, and that miR-4429 over-expression can abrogate the oncogenic role of LINC00313 in PTC cells. In summary, our data revealed that LINC00313 acts as an oncogene in PTC via sponging miR-4429, and this suggests that LINC00313 may be successfully applied as a therapeutic target in PTC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM The exact constellation of body composition characteristics among metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO) and nonobese (MUNO) children and adolescents remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to identify the major body composition determinants of metabolically unhealthy phenotypes among Chinese children and adolescents. METHODS AND RESULTS We used data from a cross-sectional survey in 2015 that included 1983 children and adolescents aged 6-18 years. Subjects were classified into two phenotypes based on a combination of body mass index (BMI) and metabolic syndrome components. Body composition was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Among all boys and among adolescent boys, those with MUNO phenotypes displayed significantly higher indices of body composition except for fat mass (FM) percentage and trunk-to-legs FM ratio compared with the metabolically healthy nonobese phenotype (all P < 0.05). MUO individuals had higher arm FM, lean body mass (LBM), and trunk lean mass compared to metabolically healthy obese individuals (all P < 0.05). Visceral fat mass (VFM) and BMI were the major independent determinants of MUNO (VFM, 6- to 9-year-old boys, OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 1.00-1.03, P = 0.021; BMI, 6- to 9-year-old girls, OR = 1.90, 95% CI = 1.31-2.84, P = 0.001; and adolescent boys, OR = 1.34, 95% CI = 1.23-1.44, P < 0.001). LBM was the major independent predictor of MUO among adolescent boys (OR = 1.90, 95% CI = 1.03-1.17, P = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS Among children and adolescents, the metabolically unhealthy phenotype was associated with excess of body composition, but with significant differences observed based on age and sex. VFM and LBM derived by DXA can predict the metabolically unhealthy phenotype effectively in specific sex and age groups.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the alteration of plasma metabolomic profiles, screen the new serum markers of multidrug resistant epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), and investigate the mechanism. Methods: The serum of 132 cases with cisplatin-resistant EOC, cisplatin-sensitive EOC, benign ovarian cyst and healthy donors were collected. Differentially plasma metabolic profiles were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The significantly different metabolites of each group were screened by using principal component analysis. Then compounds that played a key role in cisplatin resistance were identified by using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The relationships between these compounds and clinical characteristics and prognosis were analyzed. Results: LC-MS/MS identified 25 800 metabolic compounds. According to the descending dimension algorithm by principal component analysis, six compounds which were the biggest contributor to grouping were identified. The identified results of NMR showed that the serum level of C16 Sphinganine was lower while Dodemorph was higher in the EOC than those of the normal control. Compared to the cisplatin sensitive group, cisplatin resistant group exhibited a specific metabolic trait characterized by upregulation of 1-Monopalmitin, Ricinoleic acid methyl ester, Polyoxyethylene (600) mono-ricinoleate/Glycidyl stearate and downregulation of Calycanthidine. The four components were all associated with fatty acid metabolism, and the combinational diagnostic sensitivity of these biomarkers for cisplatin-resistance was 86.50% and the specificity was 81.80%, the area of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.93. Conclusions: The metabolic signatures of normal control, benign ovarian cyst, cisplatin sensitivity and cisplatin resistance can be clearly separated from each other by LC-MS/MS technology. The combinational four biomarkers including Calycanthidine, 1-Monopalmitin, Ricinoleic acid methl ester and Polyoxyethylene (600) mono-ricinoleate/Glycidyl stearate are more sensitive and specific for the diagnosis of cisplatin resistant EOC, and may provide the potentially predict markers of chemotherapeutic response in metabolic level. The fatty acid metabolism may participate in the cisplatin resistant progression of EOC.

Implications of Autophagy and Oxidative Stress in Trastuzumab-Mediated Cardiac Toxicities. AUSTIN PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACEUTICS 2017; 2:1005. Abstract
Trastuzumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody directed against human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), remains the standard of care as part of adjuvant therapy for patients diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancers. Despite high therapeutic efficacy, trastuzumab-based regimens can cause serious cardiotoxic side effects. Effective mitigation of cardiotoxic risk relies on thorough understanding of molecular mechanisms of cardiotoxicity induced by trastuzumab. Among the probable mechanisms responsible for trastuzumab-mediated cardiotoxicity, generation of free radicals causing oxidative stress has garnered notable attention in recent years. More recently, role of autophagy in trastuzumab-induced cardiomyopathy was explored. Trastuzumab-mediated HER2 signaling dysregulation activated Erk/mTOR signaling cascade resulting in autophagy inhibition. Consequently, autophagy impairment leads to massive accumulation of damaged mitochondria and free radicals causing oxidative stress and toxicity in cardiomyocytes. This review will discuss recent advances in understanding the mechanism of oxidative stress and highlight the role of autophagy in trastuzumab-mediated cardiac dysfunctions.

Evolution of the Reactor Antineutrino Flux and Spectrum at Daya Bay. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2017; 118:251801. Abstract
The Daya Bay experiment has observed correlations between reactor core fuel evolution and changes in the reactor antineutrino flux and energy spectrum. Four antineutrino detectors in two experimental halls were used to identify 2.2 million inverse beta decays (IBDs) over 1230 days spanning multiple fuel cycles for each of six 2.9 GW_{th} reactor cores at the Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power plants. Using detector data spanning effective ^{239}Pu fission fractions F_{239} from 0.25 to 0.35, Daya Bay measures an average IBD yield σ[over ¯]_{f} of (5.90±0.13)×10^{-43} cm^{2}/fission and a fuel-dependent variation in the IBD yield, dσ_{f}/dF_{239}, of (-1.86±0.18)×10^{-43} cm^{2}/fission. This observation rejects the hypothesis of a constant antineutrino flux as a function of the ^{239}Pu fission fraction at 10 standard deviations. The variation in IBD yield is found to be energy dependent, rejecting the hypothesis of a constant antineutrino energy spectrum at 5.1 standard deviations. While measurements of the evolution in the IBD spectrum show general agreement with predictions from recent reactor models, the measured evolution in total IBD yield disagrees with recent predictions at 3.1σ. This discrepancy indicates that an overall deficit in the measured flux with respect to predictions does not result from equal fractional deficits from the primary fission isotopes ^{235}U, ^{239}Pu, ^{238}U, and ^{241}Pu. Based on measured IBD yield variations, yields of (6.17±0.17) and (4.27±0.26)×10^{-43} cm^{2}/fission have been determined for the two dominant fission parent isotopes ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu. A 7.8% discrepancy between the observed and predicted ^{235}U yields suggests that this isotope may be the primary contributor to the reactor antineutrino anomaly.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identified differentially expressed proteins associated with platinum resistance in platinum resistance epithelial oarian cancer(EOC)patients in serum and investigate their clinical value. METHODS A total of 106 patients withoverian tumor in affiliated tumor hospital of Guangxi Medical University from August 1998 to September 2013 were enrolled in this study, which include 52 cases od platinum-sensitive(PTS), 44 cases of platinum-resistant(PTR)and 10 cases of benign ovarian cyst(BOC). Thirty-three cases of normal women proceeded physical examination in our hospital in 2008 were chosen as control group(NC). Four groups of patients serum samples of 4 groups were collected and preserved.(1)Differentially express level of serum proteins of 10 cases of every group(PTS & PTR vs NC, PTS & PTR vs BOC, PTS vs PTR)were identified with isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitative(iTRAQ)based quantitative proteomic approach and then was subjected to bioinformatics analysis.(2)Proteins that played a important role in multidrug resistance were validated by western blot(WB)and ELISA in 44 PTR patients, 52 PRS patients and 33 NC women.(3)Pearson correlation analysis was used to explain the relationship between proteins and clinical pathological parameters of PTR individuals. Kaplan-Meier method was supposed to explore serum biomarkers associated with clinical prognosis data. Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were used to determine the diagnostic value of the markers. RESULTS (1)Based on the result of bioinformatics analysis, 56 proteins, 39 proteins and 62 proteins were identified respectively among PTS & PTR vs NC, PTS & PTR vs BOC, PTS vs PTR. It showed that C6 and CNTN1 have a positive seletion effect among Asians and BCHE among Europeans through searching Haplotter database. CRP, FN1, S100A9, TF, ALB, VWF, APOC2, APOE, CD44, F2, GPX3 and ACTB proein were further verified related with platinum resistance by taking intersection analysis in the COREMINE database and TCGA.(2)The expression level of SERPINA1 protein in serum of PTR group, PTS group and NC groupwere 41.7±9.2, 32.8±6.6 and 14.2±3.6 respectively using WB assay, and(816±246),(686±205)and(756 ± 244)μg/μl respectively using ELISA; the expression level of ORM1 protein in PTR, PTS and NC serum were 37.9±7.0, 27.0±22.5 and 21.7±2.6 respectively using WB assay, and(221±35),(174±23)and(157±18)μg/μl respectively using ELISA; the expression level of FN1 protein in PTR, PTS and NC serum were 30.3±11.4, 18.2±5.2, 23.7±3.9 respectively by WB assay, and(71±13),(62±13),(69±13)ng/μl respectively by ELISA; the expression level of GPX3 protein in PTR, PTS and NC serum were 1.2±0.3, 2.2± 0.3, 1.6±0.3 respectively WB assay. The expression of each protein by using western blot method and ELISA method had the same trend as that using iTRAQ technology.(3)Pearson correlation analysis showed, the expression of SERPINA1, FN1 and ORM1 had a positive correlation with recurrence and death of PTR patients(P <0.01, P <0.05), but was negatively correlated with progress free survival of PTR patients(P <0.05). Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that clinical stage, initial treatment outcomes, the express level of SERPINA1, FN1 and ORM1 were significantly related with progression-free survival(P <0.05), the initial treatment outcomes was related with overall survival(P=0.027). The overall predictive accuracy of each protein was reflected by the area under the ROC curve(AUC), FN1 ORM1 and SERPINA with ROC areas of 0.679, 0.910 and 0.666 respectively. The diagnosis value of ORM1 protein in ovarian cancer patients with platinum resistance performance is significantly higher than that of FN1 and SERPINA1 protein(P=0.000) CONCLUSIONS: The differentially express level of FN1, SERPINA1 and ORM1 between PTS and PTR play a essential role in measuring subtle changes in response to platinum-based chemotherapy and may be involved in biological processes of platinum resistance. ORM1 has higher diagnostic efficiency of platinum resistance in ovarian cancer patients. It may be a promising candidate biomarker for screening and diagnosis of ovarian cancer patients with platinum resistance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The use of tube feeding for elderly patients with poor nutritional intake is a ubiquitous method of feeding. This systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out to compare nutritional benefits of enteral feeding versus oral feeding in long-term care facilities. SETTING Databases including the Cochrane Library, ProQuest, PubMed, EMBASE, EBSCO, Web of Science and Google Scholar through April 2014 using keywords including enteral feeding, tube feeding or oral feeding combined with long term care facilities or nursing home. PARTICIPANTS Eight articles, with 841 participants were included in meta-analysis and 13 articles were included in systematic review. The elderly had to live in long-term care institutions and could not be on any mechanically assisted ventilation systems or be in any type of post-operative status. MEASUREMENTS The three investigators extracted and appraised data using the same study design, baseline characteristics, and outcomes, independently. RESULTS Following a systematic review, 13 articles out of 8218 original research articles were selected for this analysis. Meta-analysis of tube-fed patients found lower levels of hemoglobin (Weighted Mean Difference (WMD -0.21g/dl; 95% CI -0.42 to -0.01; p=0.04) and creatinine (WMD -0.08g/dl; 95% CI -0.17 to 0.00, p=0.05). Moreover, the results showed that there were no benefits regarding body mass index (BMI), albumin, dietary intake of proteins, total calories and fat. CONCLUSIONS The results show that tube feeding does not increase patients' nutrients absorption to improve nutritional status. Instead, these results indicate that oral feeding is better regarding some nutritional biochemical parameters.

Abstract
This work investigated the effect of static magnetic field (SMF) on Bacillus atrophaeus endospore germination. Germination was triggered by L-alanine in 1.3-T SMF and characterized by ion release, Ca2+ -dipicolinic acid release, and water influx. These events were monitored by electrical conductivity, Tb-DPA fluorescence, and optical density, respectively. Culturability of endospore germinated in SMF exposure was evaluated by CFU enumeration. Results indicated that 1.3-T SMF failed to significantly affect endospore germination and culturability, suggesting that the three aforementioned processes were not sensitive to SMF. Abstract
Searches for a light sterile neutrino have been performed independently by the MINOS and the Daya Bay experiments using the muon (anti)neutrino and electron antineutrino disappearance channels, respectively. In this Letter, results from both experiments are combined with those from the Bugey-3 reactor neutrino experiment to constrain oscillations into light sterile neutrinos. The three experiments are sensitive to complementary regions of parameter space, enabling the combined analysis to probe regions allowed by the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector (LSND) and MiniBooNE experiments in a minimally extended four-neutrino flavor framework. Stringent limits on sin^{2}2θ_{μe} are set over 6 orders of magnitude in the sterile mass-squared splitting Δm_{41}^{2}. The sterile-neutrino mixing phase space allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE experiments is excluded for Δm_{41}^{2}<0.8 eV^{2} at 95% CL_{s}.

Abstract
This Letter reports an improved search for light sterile neutrino mixing in the electron antineutrino disappearance channel with the full configuration of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. With an additional 404 days of data collected in eight antineutrino detectors, this search benefits from 3.6 times the statistics available to the previous publication, as well as from improvements in energy calibration and background reduction. A relative comparison of the rate and energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos in the three experimental halls yields no evidence of sterile neutrino mixing in the 2×10^{-4}≲|Δm_{41}^{2}|≲0.3 eV^{2} mass range. The resulting limits on sin^{2}2θ_{14} are improved by approx imately a factor of 2 over previous results and constitute the most stringent constraints to date in the |Δm_{41}^{2}|≲0.2 eV^{2} region.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate and compare the anterior corneal asphericity after small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)and femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis(FS-LASIK). METHODS In this case-control study, 45 subjects who underwent SMILE operation comprised the study group, and 33 subjects with FS-LASIK operation comprised the control group. The asphericity coefficient Q-value of the right eyes in both groups was measured at diameters of 6, 7, 8 and 9 mm, respectively, before surgery and at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 6 months following surgery. The correlation between the variation of Q-value and the central cutting depth was analyzed. RESULTS The Q-value of anterior corneal surface was 0.85 ± 0.31, 0.80±0.28, 0.69±0.25 and 0.51±0.23 after SMILE, and 1.13±0.56, 1.01±0.47, 0.80±0.39 and 0.51±0.31 after FS-LASIK at 1 week. In both groups, the Q-value was significantly different before and after surgery(P< 0.05); there were interaction effects between the operation method and time; the difference between the two groups at 6-mm and 7-mm diameters was statistically significant(P<0.05). The variation of the Q-value before and after operation(ΔQ)showed significant difference(P6mm=0.004, P7mm=0.014)between the two groups at 6-mm and 7-mm diameters. The cap diameter of the SMILE group was smaller than that of the FS-LASIK group, but the cutting depth was larger. There was no correlation between ΔQ and the cap/disc diameter. It showed a linear relationship(P<0.05)between ΔQ and the central cutting depth at all examined diameters in the two groups, and the relation degree in the FS-LASIK group was superior to the SMILE group. CONCLUSIONS Both SMILE and FS-LASIK operations can change the negative Q-value of the anterior corneal surface to the positive. The impact of SMILE on the asphericity is smaller than that of FS-LASIK. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2016, 52: 681-685).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate changes in posterior corneal elevation after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and related factors. METHODS Retrospective case series study. Eighty-three eyes of 44 myopic patients undergoing SMILE were examined with the Pentacam preoperatively, and at 1 day, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. Posterior corneal elevation at the corneal apex and 0°, 45°, 90°, 135°, 180°, 225°, 270° and 325° points of the 2 mm and 6 mm diameter (total, 17 points) was analyzed. RESULTS The changes in posterior corneal elevation at 1 day, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months were(-1.72±2.59), (-0.98±2.37), (-0.45±1.81) and (-0.25±2.20) μm, respectively, at the corneal apex. The results were statistically significant (t=6.07, 3.75, 6.07; P<0.05), except 6 months. The changes in posterior corneal elevation were (-1.42±2.06),(-0.69±1.86), (-0.30±1.50) and(-0.22±1.58) μm, respectively, in the 2 mm circle. The results of 1 day and 1 month were statistically significant (t=6.28, 6.28, P<0.05). The changes in posterior corneal elevation were (1.48±1.47),(0.98±1.32),(0.90±1.31) and (0.90±1.16) μm, respectively, in the 6 mm circle .The results were totally statistically significant (t=6.28, 6.28, P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences between 1 month and 1 day postoperatively in the corneal apex, 2 mm and 6 mm circles. The changes were (0.75±2.55),(0.73±1.97) and(-0.50±1.60) μm. There were statistically significant differences between 3 months and 1 month postoperatively in the corneal apex and 2 mm circle. The changes were (0.53±2.22) and (0.39±1.80) μm. No significant change was found in the 6 mm circle. Between postoperative 6 months and 3 months, there were no statistically significant differences. The spherical equivalent, intraocular pressure, ablation depth, residual bed thickness, corneal hysteresis, and corneal resistance factor had no obvious correlation with the changes in posterior corneal elevation. CONCLUSIONS After SMILE, the surrounding cornea was slightly forward, while the central posterior cornea was slightly backwards, and returned gradually. The spherical equivalent, intraocular pressure, ablation depth, residual bed thickness, corneal hysteresis, and corneal resistance factor had no obvious correlation with the changes in posterior corneal elevation. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Complex vertebral confluence aneurysms remain clinically challenging despite the rapid technological advances in endovascular technology. Therefore, animal confluence aneurysm models are urgently needed for the preclinical development of related medical devices and training clinicians. This study aimed to establish canine confluence aneurysm model and evaluate hemodynamics in this model. MATERIALS AND METHODS According to the shape and regional blood flow of vertebrobasilar junction (VBJ) aneurysms, confluence aneurysm was introduced in 9 dogs by microsurgical technique. We partially anastomosed right common carotid artery (CCA) and left CCA (end to side anastomosis) to create inverted Y-junction of arteries and, then, sutured a harvested segment of external jugular vein to the notch of anastomosis to simulate confluence aneurysm. These animals were examined by 3D digital subtraction angiography (DSA) 4 weeks after surgery. Geometry parameters of the aneurysm, surrounding vasculature and specific double inlet profiles were analyzed by simulating computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in these animals. RESULTS Aneurysms were successfully established in all animals, including 8 complete and 1 partially thrombosed aneurysms. No neurological defects or death were observed. Geometric and hemodynamic parameters in these surgically introduced confluence aneurysm animals are similar to those reported for human VBJ aneurysms. CONCLUSIONS This study documents a protocol to successfully establish confluence aneurysm models in dogs. This model may be useful in preclinical studies targeting various complex vertebral confluence aneurysms.

The interaction of serum testosterone levels and androgen receptor CAG repeat polymorphism on the risk of erectile dysfunction in aging Taiwanese men. Andrology 2015. Abstract
Testosterone has been found to play important roles in men's sexual function. However, the effects of testosterone can be modulated by androgen receptor (AR) CAG repeat polymorphism. It could also contribute to the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED). The aim of this study is to evaluate the interaction of serum testosterone levels and AR CAG repeat polymorphism on the risk of ED in aging Taiwanese men. This cross-sectional data of Taiwanese men older than 40 years were collected from a free health screening held between August 2010 and August 2011 in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan. All participants completed a health questionnaires included five-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) and the International Prostate Symptoms Score, received a detailed physical examination and provided 20 cm3 whole blood samples for biochemical and genetic evaluation. The IIEF-5 was used to evaluate ED. Serum albumin, total testosterone (TT), and sex hormone-binding globulin levels were measured. Free testosterone level was calculated. AR gene CAG repeat polymorphism was determined by direct sequencing. Finally, 478 men with the mean age of 55.7 ± 4.8 years were included. When TT levels were above 330 ng/dL, the effect of testosterone level on erectile function seemed to reach a plateau and a significantly negative correlation between AR CAG repeat length and the score of IIEF-5 was found (r = -0.119, p = 0.034). After adjusting for other covariates, the longer AR CAG repeat length was still an independent risk factor for ED in subjects with TT above 330 ng/dL (p = 0.006), but not in TT of 330 ng/dL or below. In conclusion, both serum testosterone levels and AR CAG repeat polymorphism can influence erectile function concomitantly. In subjects with normal TT concentration, those with longer AR CAG repeat lengths have a higher risk of developing ED.

Abstract
We conducted a case-control study in a Chinese population to assess whether 5 common single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the vascular endothelial growth factor gene (VEGF) affect the risk of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The study population included 266 RCC patients who were newly diagnosed and histologically confirmed to have RCC as well as 532 cancer-free controls. Genotyping of VEGF -2578C/A, -1156G/A, +1612G/A, +936C/T, and -634G/C was conducted by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. RCC patients were more likely to have higher body mass index, and have a habit of tobacco smoking as well as suffer from diabetes. Conditional logistic regression analyses showed that individuals with the AA genotype and A allele of -2578C/A significantly increased the risk of RCC when compared with the CC genotype. Individuals carrying the CT and TT geno-types of +936C/T were correlated with an increased risk of RCC compared to the CC genotype. The T allele of +936C/T was associated with an increased risk of RCC. The -2578C/A and +936C/T polymorphisms in the VEGF gene may play a role in the etiology of RCC.

Abstract
Giant cell tumour (GCT) of the spine is rarely encountered in daily clinical practice. Most of the tumours occur at the sacrum instead of at the spine above the sacrum, which has been reported to account for 1.3-9.3% of all spine GCTs. This article is a review of our radiological experience of the diagnosis of spine GCT above the sacrum based on 34 patients at a single institution. The purpose of this pictorial review is to highlight the imaging findings of GCT and to provide clues that may distinguish it from other, more common neoplasms.

Salmonella L-forms: formation in human bile in vitro and isolation culture from patients' gallbladder samples by a non-high osmotic isolation technique. Clin Microbiol Infect 2015; 21:470.e9-16. Abstract
Bacterial L-forms have always been considered as osmotic-pressure-sensitive cell-wall-deficient bacteria and isolation culture of L-forms must use media with high osmotic pressure. However, isolation culture of stable L-forms formed in humans and animals is very difficult because they have adapted to the physiological osmotic pressure condition of the host. We use a non-high osmotic isolation technique to isolate stable L-forms of Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi A from bile-inducer cultures in vitro and from patients' gallbladder specimens. Multiplex PCR assay for Salmonella-specific genes and nucleotide sequencing are used to identify the Salmonella L-forms in stable L-form isolates. Using this method, we confirmed that Salmonella Paratyphi A and Salmonella Typhi cannot be isolated from bile-inducer cultures cultured for 6 h or 48 h, but the L-forms can be isolated from 1 h to 45 days. In the 524 gallbladder samples, the positive rate for bacterial forms was 19.7% and the positive rate for Salmonella spp. was 0.6% by routine bacteriological methods. The positive rate for bacterial L-forms was 75.4% using non-high osmotic isolation culture. In the L-form isolates, the positive rate of Salmonella invA gene was 3.1%. In these invA-positive L-form isolates, four were positive for the invA and flic-d genes of Salmonella Typhi, and ten were positive for the invA and flic-a genes of Salmonella Paratyphi A.
