Abstract
BACKGROUND The presence of circulating plasma cells (CPCs) is an important laboratory indicator for the diagnosis, staging, risk stratification, and progression monitoring of multiple myeloma (MM). Early detection of CPCs in the peripheral blood (PB) followed by timely interventions can significantly improve MM prognosis and delay its progression. Although the conventional cell morphology examination remains the predominant method for CPC detection because of accessibility, its sensitivity and reproducibility are limited by technician expertise and cell quantity constraints. This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based automated system for a more sensitive and efficient CPC morphology detection. METHODS A total of 137 bone marrow smears and 72 PB smears from patients with at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, were retrospectively reviewed. Using an AI-powered digital pathology platform, Morphogo, 305,019 cell images were collected for training. Morphogo's efficacy in CPC detection was evaluated with additional 184 PB smears (94 from patients with MM and 90 from those with other hematological malignancies) and compared with manual microscopy. RESULTS Morphogo achieved 99.64% accuracy, 89.03% sensitivity, and 99.68% specificity in classifying CPCs. At a 0.60 threshold, Morphogo achieved a sensitivity of 96.15%, which was approximately twice that of manual microscopy, with a specificity of 78.03%. Patients with CPCs detected by AI scanning had a significantly shorter median progression-free survival compared with those without CPC detection (18 months vs. 34 months, p< .01). CONCLUSIONS Morphogo is a highly sensitive system for the automated detection of CPCs, with potential applications in initial screening, prognosis prediction, and posttreatment monitoring for MM patients. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY Diagnosing and monitoring multiple myeloma (MM), a type of blood cancer, requires identifying and quantifying specific cells called circulating plasma cells (CPCs) in the blood. The conventional method for detecting CPCs is manual microscopic examination, which is time-consuming and lacks sensitivity. This study introduces a highly sensitive CPC detection method using an artificial intelligence-based system, Morphogo. It demonstrated remarkable sensitivity and accuracy, surpassing conventional microscopy. This advanced approach suggests that early and accurate CPC detection is achievable by morphology examination, making efficient CPC screening more accessible for patients with MM. This innovative system has the potential to be used in the diagnosis and risk assessment of MM.

Abstract
Nuclear receptors (NRs) are important transcriptional factors that mediate autophagy, preventing podocyte injury and the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). However, the role of nuclear receptor coactivators that are powerful enhancers for the transcriptional activity of NRs in DKD remains unclear. In this study, a significant decrease in Nuclear Receptor Coactivator 3 (NCOA3) is observed in injured podocytes caused by high glucose treatment. Additionally, NCOA3 overexpression counteracts podocyte damage by improving autophagy. Further, Src family member, Fyn is identified to be the target of NCOA3 that mediates the podocyte autophagy process. Mechanistically, NCOA3 regulates the transcription of Fyn in a nuclear receptor, PPAR-γ dependent way. Podocyte-specific NCOA3 knockout aggravates albuminuria, glomerular sclerosis, podocyte injury, and autophagy in DKD mice. However, the Fyn inhibitor, AZD0530, rescues podocyte injury of NCOA3 knockout DKD mice. Renal NCOA3 overexpression with lentivirus can ameliorate podocyte damage and improve podocyte autophagy in DKD mice. Taken together, the findings highlight a novel target, NCOA3, that protects podocytes from high glucose injury by maintaining autophagy.

[Dosimetric analysis of different optimization algorithms for three-dimensional brachytherapy for gynecologic tumors]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the dosimetric difference between manual and inverse optimization in 3-dimensional (3D) brachytherapy for gynecologic tumors. METHODS This retrospective study was conducted among a total of 110 patients with gynecologic tumors undergoing intracavitary combined with interstitial brachytherapy or interstitial brachytherapy. Based on the original images, the brachytherapy plans were optimized for each patient using Gro, IPSA1, IPSA2 (with increased volumetric dose limits on the basis of IPSA1) and HIPO algorithms. The dose-volume histogram (DVH) parameters of the clinical target volume (CTV) including V200, V150, V100, D90, D98 and CI, and the dosimetric parameters D2cc, D1cc, and D0.1cc for the bladder, rectum, and sigmoid colon were compared among the 4 plans. RESULTS Among the 4 plans, Gro optimization took the longest time, followed by HIPO, IPSA2 and IPSA1 optimization. The mean D90, D98, and V100 of HIPO plans were significantly higher than those of Gro and IPSA plans, and D90 and V100 of IPSA1, IPSA2 and HIPO plans were higher than those of Gro plans (P < 0.05), but the CI of the 4 plans were similar (P > 0.05). For the organs at risk (OARs), the HIPO plan had the lowest D2cc of the bladder and rectum; the bladder absorbed dose of Gro plans were significantly greater than those of IPSA1 and HIPO (P < 0.05). The D2cc and D1cc of the rectum in IPSA1, IPSA2 and HIPO plans were better than Gro (P < 0.05). The D2cc and D1cc of the sigmoid colon did not differ significantly among the 4 plans. CONCLUSION Among the 4 algorithms, the HIPO algorithm can better improve dose coverage of the target and lower the radiation dose of the OARs, and is thus recommended for the initial plan optimization. Clinically, the combination of manual optimization can achieve more individualized dose distribution of the plan.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to establish an intelligent segmentation algorithm to count the number of deep medullary veins (DMVs) and analyze the relationship between DMVs and imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). METHODS DMVs on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of patients with CSVD were counted by intelligent segmentation and manual counting. The dice coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were used to evaluate their consistency and correlation. Structural MR images were used to assess imaging markers and total burden of CSVD. A multivariate linear regression model was used to evaluate the correlation between the number of DMVs counted by intelligent segmentation and imaging markers of CSVD, including white matter hyperintensities of the presumed vascular origin, lacune, perivascular spaces, cerebral microbleeds, and total CSVD burden. RESULTS A total of 305 patients with CSVD were enrolled. An intelligent segmentation algorithm was established to calculate the number of DMVs, and it was validated and tested. The number of DMVs counted intelligently significantly correlated with the manual counting method (r = 0.761, P< 0.001). The number of smart-counted DMVs negatively correlated with the imaging markers and total burden of CSVD (P< 0.001), and the correlation remained after adjusting for age and hypertension (P< 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The proposed intelligent segmentation algorithm, which was established to count DMVs, can provide objective and quantitative imaging information for the follow-up of patients with CSVD. DMVs are involved in CSVD pathogenesis and a likely new imaging marker for CSVD.

Abstract
Cuproptosis is an emerging cell death pathway that depends on the intracellular Cu ions. Elesclomol (ES) as an efficient Cu ionophore can specifically transport Cu into mitochondria and trigger cuproptosis. However, ES can be rapidly removed and metabolized during intravenous administration, leading to a short half-life and limited tumor accumulation, which hampers its clinical application. Here, the study develops a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive polymer (PCP) based on cinnamaldehyde (CA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) to encapsulate ES-Cu compound (EC), forming ECPCP. ECPCP significantly prolongs the systemic circulation of EC and enhances its tumor accumulation. After cellular internalization, the PCP coating stimulatingly dissociates exposing to the high-level ROS, and releases ES and Cu, thereby triggering cell death via cuproptosis. Meanwhile, Cu2+-stimulated Fenton-like reaction together with CA-stimulated ROS production simultaneously breaks the redox homeostasis, which compensates for the insufficient oxidative stress treated with ES alone, in turn inducing immunogenic cell death of tumor cells, achieving simultaneous cuproptosis and immunotherapy. Furthermore, the excessive ROS accelerates the stimuli-dissociation of ECPCP, forming a positive feedback therapy loop against tumor self-alleviation. Therefore, ECPCP as a nanoplatform for cuproptosis and immunotherapy improves the dual antitumor mechanism of ES and provides a potential optimization for ES clinical application.

Abstract
Arachidonic acid metabolites are a family of bioactive lipids derived from membrane phospholipids. They are involved in cancer progression, but arachidonic acid metabolite profiles and their related biosynthetic pathways remain uncertain in colorectal cancer (CRC). To compare the arachidonic acid metabolite profiles between CRC patients and healthy controls, quantification was performed using a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based analysis of serum and tissue samples. Metabolomics analysis delineated the distinct oxidized lipids in CRC patients and healthy controls. Prostaglandin (PGE2)-derived metabolites were increased, suggesting that the PGE2 biosynthetic pathway was upregulated in CRC. The qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry analyses showed that the expression level of PGE2 synthases, the key protein of PGE2 biosynthesis, was upregulated in CRC and positively correlated with the CD68+ macrophage density and CRC development. Our study indicates that the PGE2 biosynthetic pathway is associated with macrophage infiltration and progression of CRC tumors.

Abstract
Atypical responses to teacher rewards, discipline and different forms of instructional methods have been identified as potential contributors to disruptive behavior, low school engagement, and academic underachievement in children with elevated callous-unemotional (CU) traits. To date, research on CU traits in schools has relied on interview or questionnaire methods and has predominantly been conducted in Western countries. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the relationships between CU traits and children's responses to teacher rewards, discipline and instructional methods in the Chinese preschool context using classroom observation. Eight teachers (7 females, 1 male; M = 37.66 years) and 116 children (56% girls; M = 5.16 years) from two mainstream Chinese preschools participated in the study. Of the 116 eligible children, the behavior of 108 children from four classes were observed during classroom activities. Findings indicated that CU traits were not related to children's responses to discipline, nor did CU traits moderate the relationship between instructional methods and children's academic engagement. Higher CU traits predicted a greater frequency of one-to-one teacher-child interaction. Our findings offer initial insights into the potential of early school-based interventions in fostering engagement and prosocial behavior among children with CU traits. However, they also highlight the need for additional support for preschool teachers, who face the challenge of managing these high-risk children who appear to require more individual time and attention.

Abstract
Recent research suggests a possible association between midlife obesity and an increased risk of dementia in later life. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Little is known about the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and hippocampal subfield atrophy. In this study, we aimed to explore the associations between BMI and hippocampal subfield volumes and cognitive function in non-demented Chinese older adults. Hippocampal volumes were assessed using structural magnetic resonance imaging. Cognitive function was evaluated using the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). A total of 66 participants were included in the final analysis, with 35 females and 31 males. We observed a significant correlation between BMI and the hippocampal fissure volume in older females. In addition, there was a negative association between BMI and the RBANS total scale score, the coding score, and the story recall score, whereas no significant correlations were observed in older males. In conclusion, our findings revealed sex-specific associations between BMI and hippocampal subfield volumes and cognitive performance, providing valuable insights into the development of effective interventions for the early prevention of cognitive decline.

Abstract
Nonpoint source pollution caused by agricultural activities has long attracted widespread attention from people in society and academia. Many studies have found that human activities not only convey exogenous pollutants into aquifers but also affect the mobilization and transport of geogenic pollutants in aquifers. Geogenic groundwater with high phosphorus concentrations has been found, but it is unclear whether the changes in hydrogeochemical conditions caused by flood irrigation in paddy fields affect the fate of phosphorus. We investigated the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of phosphorus in groundwater under the influence of flood irrigation through laboratory experiments, proved its impact on phosphorus in groundwater, and explored the mechanisms influencing P concentrations. The results show that flood irrigation can increase the release of phosphorus in the aquifer media and greatly increase the phosphorus concentration in the groundwater of the study area, which has a negative impact on groundwater quality. The main mechanism of increase in phosphorus concentration in groundwater involves an increase in the reducibility of the aquifer via flood irrigation; as a result, iron oxides are reductively dissolved and iron-bound phosphorus is released into the groundwater. Changes in pH also result in the dissolution of calcium phosphate minerals and the release calcium-bound phosphorus. This study not only advances the theory of multielement-coupled hydrogeochemistry but also provides a reference for agricultural planning and groundwater pollution prevention and control in rice-growing areas.

Abstract
The electrochemiluminescence (ECL) behavior of a tri(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(ii) (Ru(bpy)32+)/tripropylamine (TPrA) system was investigated in sensor chips with two kinds of integrated two-electrode systems, which included screen-printed electrodes (SPE) and physical vapor deposition (PVD) electrodes. Firstly, under excitation with an optimal transient potential (TP) within 100 ms, the ECL assay could be carried out on the microchips using an Au & Au electrode system, emitting strong and stable light signal. Secondly, on the PVD chip, the ECL intensity initiated by optimal TP was eight times stronger than the peak light signal emitted by the linear sweep voltammetry model. Finally, the logarithmic ECL intensities exhibited a linear increase with the logarithmic concentrations of Ru(bpy)32+ in both the SPE and PVD chips without any reference electrode (RE). Typically, the integration of an interdigital two-electrode system in the microchip significantly enhanced the ECL sensitivity of Ru(bpy)32+ because the large relative area between the working electrode (WE) and counter electrode (CE) achieved a highly efficient mass transfer. This improvement enabled the establishment of a reliable linear relationship across a wide concentration range, spanning from 1 pM to 1 μM (R2 = 0.998). Therefore, the exceptional ECL response of the Ru(bpy)32+/TPrA system on microfluidic chips using a two-electrode system and the TP excitation model has been demonstrated. This suggests that ECL chips without a RE have broad potential for the rapid and sensitive detection of multiple targets.

Abstract
Introduction Food proteins have been recognized as an ideal source to release bioactive peptides with the potential to intervene nutrition related chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity and diabetes. Our previous studies showed that pea protein hydrolysate (PPH) could suppress hepatic glucose production in hepatic cells via inhibiting the gluconeogenic signaling. Thus, we hypothesized that PPH could play the hypoglycemic role in vivo. Methods In the present study, the mice model with type 2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM) was developed by high-fat diet and low dose of streptozotocin injections. PPH was administered orally with a dosage of 1000 mg/kg body weight for 9 weeks, followed by the downstream biomedical analyses. Results The results showed that the 9-week treatment of PPH could reduce fasting blood glucose by 29.6% and improve glucose tolerance in the T2DM mice. The associated mechanisms included suppression of the gluconeogenic pathway, activation of the insulin signaling and modulation of the renin angiotensin system in the liver of the diabetic mice. In addition, the levels of pro-inflammatory markers in both liver and serum were reduced by the PPH treatment. Conclusion The hypoglycemic effect of PPH in T2DM mice was demonstrated in the present study. Findings from this study could provide rationale to incorporate PPH into functional foods or nutraceuticals for glycemic control.

Abstract
Despite numerous studies having reported the effects and mechanisms of antihypertensive peptides including peptides derived from egg white proteins, the role of peptides in a female hypertensive animal model is unknown. On the other hand, the role of epigenetic modulation by peptide treatment has rarely been investigated. This study sought to investigate the effect of egg white protein hydrolysate (EWH) in female spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) as well as to explore the underlying mechanisms from the perspectives of the transcriptome and the profiles of non-coding RNAs. Young (12-14-week-old) female SHRs were orally administered 250 mg per kg body weight (low-dose) or 1000 mg per kg body weight (high-dose) EWH daily for 10 weeks. The blood pressure of the rats was monitored weekly. The mRNA and non-coding RNAs (miRNA, lncRNA, and circRNA) in the aorta were profiled by the high-throughput RNA-seq technique. Differentially expressed (DE) RNAs in the aorta were identified for the construction of the competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks and key molecules were validated by qRT-PCR. The treatment of the high-dose EWH showed a significant effect on reducing blood pressure in female SHRs. Bioinformatic analyses revealed 813, 90, 347 and 869 DE-mRNAs, DE-miRNAs, DE-lncRNAs and DE-circRNAs, respectively. The CNTN5-LncRNA-XR_001835895.1-miR-384-5p was identified as the central network which was validated in the aorta and circulation of female SHRs. The results from this study demonstrated that the treatment with EWH reduced blood pressure via regulating the ceRNA networks in female SHRs, which provided novel insights into the mechanisms of food protein-derived antihypertensive peptides.

Abstract
Streptococcus agalactiae is the major cause of invasive neonatal infections and is a recognized pathogen associated with various diseases in nonpregnant adults. The emergence and spread of antibiotic-resistant S. agalactiae necessitate the development of a novel antibacterial agent. Here, the potential antibacterial activities and mechanisms of ginkgolic acid C15:1 (GA (15:1)) from Ginkgo biloba against clinical S. agalactiae are characterized. The MIC50 and MIC90 values for GA (15:1) against 72 clinical S. agalactiae isolates were 6.25 and 12.5 μM, respectively. GA (15:1) showed a strong bactericidal effect against both planktonic bacteria and bacteria embedded in biofilms as well as significant effectiveness in suppressing the growth of S. agalactiae biofilms. Moreover, GA (15:1) possesses intracellular antibacterial activity and could significantly decrease the bacterial burden in the intraperitoneal infection model of S. agalactiae. Mechanistic studies showed that GA (15:1) triggers membrane damage of S. agalactiae through a unique dual-targeting mechanism of action (MoA). First, GA (15:1) targets phospholipids in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. Second, by using mass-spectrometry-based drug affinity responsive target stability (DARTS) and molecular docking, lipoprotein signaling peptidase II (lspA) was identified as a target protein of GA (15:1), whose role is crucial for maintaining bacterial membrane depolarization and permeabilization. Our findings suggest a potential therapeutic strategy for developing GA (15:1) to combat S. agalactiae infections.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze genioglossus (GG) activation responses to the negative pressure of upper airway cavity during awake and different sleep stages in patients with different obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) graduation. Methods: This prospective cohort study started from August 2019 to January 2021, recruited 42 male OSA patients aged from 21 to 59 (38.77±8.42) years. After completing whole night polysomnography (PSG) and upper airway CT, each subject underwent drug-induced sleep with simultaneous monitoring of genioglossal electromyography (GGEMG) and pressure of epiglottis (Pepi). Subjects were divided into three groups of mild OSA(7 males), moderate OSA(12 males), and severe OSA(23 males). The differences in upper airway CT measurements, parameters of GGEMG and Pepi during awake and induced sleep were compared. Statistical analysis was conducted by SPSS 21.0. Results: There was no significant difference in the GGEMG parameters between the mild and moderate groups. In wakefulness, the peak phasic GGEMG of the severe group was higher than the mild group (t=1.249, P=0.025), with no statistically difference in the corresponding Pepi. In the sleep onset, the GGEMG parameters and Pepi in severe group were higher than the other two groups. Linear regression analysis of the maximum GGEMG and maximum Pepi at the end of obstructive apnea (OA) in all moderate plus severe patients (n=35) was shown nonlinear correlation (r=0.28, P=0.694). The airway length of the glossopharyngeal cavity was linearly correlated with the maximum Pepi of OA (r=0.468, R2=0.219, P=0.005). Conclusions: The individual difference of GG activation in OSA patients is related to the severity of the disease (frequency of respiratory events) and negative pressure stimulation. In moderate and severe OSA patients, GG activity is not in harmony with the corresponding negative pressure stimulation, which may be one of the mechanisms leading to the aggravation of OSA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP) remains one of the major digestive emergencies with increasing health risks. Oral refeeding tolerant (ORT) and enteral tube feeding tolerant (ETFT) are commonly used for nutritional management in HLAP. However, the differences between ORT and ETFT are yet to be characterized. PATIENTS AND METHODS This study included consecutive patients admitted to the Ordos Central Hospital between January 2019 and April 2023, with predefined inclusion criteria. RESULTS A total of 335 HLAP patients were recruited according to the inclusion criteria. 268 patients were diagnosed with moderately severe acute pancreatitis (MSAP), of which 193 were in the OFT group and 75 in the ETFT group. In the ETFT group, abdominal pain and abdominal distension were significantly higher than that in the OFT group. No significant result was identified in the laboratory data. However, the OFT group showed a higher hospitalization and cost, as well as exocrine insufficiency and newly onset diabetes, than the ETFT group. CONCLUSIONS Based on the incidence of HLAP retrieved in this study, MSAP is the major type with increasing clinical value. From the nutritional management sense, patients who received OFT showed higher hospitalization and cost, as well as lower exocrine insufficiency and newly onset diabetes.

Abstract
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the common complications of pulmonary infections. However, nomograms predicting the risk of early-onset AKI in patients with pulmonary infections have not been comprehensively researched. In this study, 3278 patients with pulmonary infection were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) database. These patients were randomly divided into training and validation cohorts, with the training cohort used for model building and the validation cohort used for validation. Independent risk factors for patients with pulmonary infection were determined using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method and forward stepwise logistic regression, which revealed that 11 independent risk factors for AKI in patients with pulmonary infections were congestive heart failure (CHF), hypertension, diabetes, transcutaneous oxygen saturation (SpO2), 24-h urine output, white blood cells (WBC), serum creatinine (Scr), prothrombin time (PT), potential of hydrogen (PH), vasopressor use, and mechanical ventilation (MV) use. The nomogram was then constructed and validated. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values of the nomogram were 0.770 (95% CI = 0.789-0.807) in the training cohort and 0.724 (95% CI = 0.754-0.784) in the validation cohort. High AUC values indicated the good discriminative ability of the nomogram, while the calibration curves and Hosmer-Lemeshow test results indicated that the nomogram was well-calibrated. Improvements in net reclassification index (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) values indicate that our nomogram was superior to the Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS) II scoring system, and the decision-curve analysis (DCA) curves indicate that the nomogram has good clinical application. We established a risk-prediction model for AKI in patients with pulmonary infection, which has good discriminative power and is superior to the SAPS II scoring system. This model can provide clinical reference information for patients with this type of disease in the intensive care unit.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) High grade gliomas (HGGs) are aggressive brain tumors with altered cellular metabolism. HGGs can carry mutations in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle enzyme isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1), conferring distinct biology and improved patient prognosis compared to IDH wildtype (wt) tumors. Using metabolomic analyses of tumor tissue, we previously showed that IDH wt and IDH mutant (IDH mut) tumors have unique metabolomic signatures that correlate with different survival outcomes. Among this cohort of 69 HGG samples, we identified two unique patient tumors that metabolically clustered with IDH mut tumors, but lacked both the IDH mutation and its product 2-hydroxyglutarate. We aimed to discover unique mutations in these two tumors that may impart an IDH mutant-like phenotype in the absence of an IDH1 or IDH2 mutation. MATERIALS/METHODS Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed on frozen tumor samples from two patients diagnosed as glioblastoma (GBM), IDH wt via Agilent v5 + IncRNA platform. Alignment to the hg38 genome and variant calling were completed using an accelerated implementation of GATK's BWA and MuTect2 algorithms from Sentieon. Variants were filtered based on supporting reads and variant allele thresholds, with synonymous variants and common SNPs removed. High-confidence variants were further filtered by membership in the four KEGG pathways associated with IDH1 and IDH2. Identified variants were corroborated with metabolomics data from the two unique IDH wt tumors compared with classical GBM IDH wt, oligodendrogliomas IDH mut and astrocytomas IDH mut to identify putative drivers of an IDH mutant-like metabolomic phenotype in these unique IDH wt tumors. RESULTS Despite the lack of an IDH mutation, one patient survived 45.6 months and the other patient remains alive at last follow up 64 months post diagnosis, much longer than the 16-18-month median survival typical of patients with GBM IDH wt. WES of outlier IDH wt tumor samples revealed 65 unique mutations in the queried KEGG pathways, of which 34 had a variant allele frequency > = 0.15. These variants were processed in Gprofiler, confirming expected enrichment of the carboxylic acid metabolic biologic process, a functional gene set consisting of TCA genes, among these variants (p = 0.002, 3.6-fold enrichment). Accordingly, metabolite levels of intermediates of the TCA cycle, including malate and isocitrate were decreased in the outlier tumor samples compared to classic GBMs IDH wt (p<0.001). Presence of genetic alterations in key variants of the carboxylic acid metabolic biologic process (including ME1, GYP4F3, PTGIS, PFKL, PSPH, AKR1A1, HK2, NOS1) correlated with improved overall survival among GBM patients in the TCGA (p = 0.04). Laboratory validation of these findings in preclinical GBM models is ongoing. CONCLUSION Disruption of the TCA cycle independent of an IDH mutation is associated with favorable survival in GBM. Pharmacologic inhibition of these pathways may be a promising strategy to improve GBM outcomes.

Abstract
CONTEXT We have recently shown that the secreted isoform of endoplasmic reticulum membrane complex subunit 10 (scEMC10) is upregulated in human obesity and that overexpression of scEMC10 promotes, whereas antibody neutralization of circulating scEMC10 prevents diet-induced obesity in mice. OBJECTIVE To explore associations of serum scEMC10 with body mass index (BMI), resting metabolism rate (RMR), and age in humans. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING AND PATIENTS A total of 833 participants from a Chinese physical examination cohort and 191 participants from the Leipzig Obesity Biobank cohort. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Serum scEMC10 concentrations are measured using chemiluminescent immunoassay. RMR is calculated based on measurements from indirect calorimetry with an open-circuit ventilated-hood system. RESULTS In the Chinese physical examination cohort, a J-shaped nonlinear correlation between BMI and serum scEMC10 was identified in participants where underweight, overweight, and obese people all presented higher serum scEMC10 levels than normal weight people. Participants younger than age 30 years old exhibited significantly higher serum scEMC10 levels than those older than 50 years of age. In addition, participants aged 30 to 40 years also had significantly higher serum scEMC10 levels than those aged 50 to 60 years. In the Leipzig Obesity Biobank cohort, we observed a significantly negative correlation between serum scEMC10 and resting energy expenditure after adjusting for BMI. Participants in the highest quartile of serum scEMC10 levels had significantly lower RMR than those in the first quartile. RMR had an independently inverse association with serum scEMC10. CONCLUSIONS Serum scEMC10 levels are negatively associated with age and RMR in humans.

Abstract
Background Cohort studies have shown that older adults with hearing impairment as assessed by self-report or behavioral measures are at higher risk of developing dementia many years later. A fine-grained examination of auditory processing holds promise for more effective screening of older adults at risk of cognitive decline. The auditory mismatch negativity (MMN) measure enables one to gain insights into the neurobiological substrate of central auditory processing. We hypothesized that older adults showing compromised indexes of MMN at baseline would exhibit cognitive decline at the one-year follow-up. Methods We performed cognitive evaluations with the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS; Form A and Form B) in 108 community-dwelling older adults and acquired EEG via the classic passive auditory oddball paradigm at baseline and 12-month follow-up. Results The results showed that young-old adults with future cognitive decline showed a decrease in MMN peak amplitude, accompanied by a forward-shifting latency, whereas in older adults it showed a delay in MMN latency, and unchanged MMN peak amplitude at midline electrodes (Fz, FCz and Cz). Furthermore, the peak amplitude of the MMN decreases with age in older adults aged 70-80 years rather than 60-70 years or > 80 years. Conclusion The altered MMN model exists in different aging stages and it's a promising electrophysiological predictor of cognitive decline in older adults. In addition, further research is needed to determine the neural mechanisms and potential implications of the accelerated decline in MMN in older adults.

Abstract
Innovation in the ionotronics field has significantly accelerated the development of ultraflexible devices and machines. However, it is still challenging to develop efficient ionotronic-based fibers with necessary stretchability, resilience, and conductivity due to inherent conflict in producing spinning dopes with both high polymer and ion concentrations and low viscosities. Inspired by the liquid crystalline spinning of animal silk, this study circumvents the inherent tradeoff in other spinning methods by dry spinning a nematic silk microfibril dope solution. The liquid crystalline texture allows the spinning dope to flow through the spinneret and form free-standing fibers under minimal external forces. The resultant silk-sourced ionotronic fibers (SSIFs) are highly stretchable, tough, resilient, and fatigue-resistant. These mechanical advantages ensure a rapid and recoverable electromechanical response of SSIFs to kinematic deformations. Further, the incorporation of SSIFs into core-shell triboelectric nanogenerator fibers provides outstanding stable and sensitive triboelectric response to precisely and sensitively perceive small pressures. Moreover, by implementing a combination of machine learning and Internet of Things techniques, the SSIFs can sort objects made of different materials. With these structural, processing, performance, and functional merits, the SSIFs prepared herein are expected to be applied in human-machine interfaces.

Abstract
Background The effect of viscous soluble dietary fiber on glucose and lipid metabolism in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains controversial, and the dose-response relationship of its effect on blood glucose and blood lipid level is still unclear. Methods We conducted comprehensive searches in several databases up to 17 January 2023. We conducted a dose-response analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to investigate the effect of viscous dietary fiber on glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with T2DM. Results Statistical significance was observed in the decreases of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) (mean difference) [MD = -0.47; 95%CI: (-0.66, -0.27)], fasting blood glucose (FBG) [MD = -0.93; 95%CI: (-1.46, -0.41)], total cholesterol (TC) [MD = -0.33; 95%CI: (-0.46, -0.21)], and low-density lipoprotein and cholesterol (LDL-C) [MD = -0.24; 95%CI: (-0.35, -0.13)]. Contrarily, no difference was observed regarding the level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) or triglyceride (TG). In addition, the effect on fasting insulin remains unclear. Results from the subgroup analyses showed that an intervention duration longer than 6 weeks had a significant effect on the HbA1c level; a treatment dosage higher than 8.3 g/day had a significant effect on the FBG level. Conclusions Supplementation of viscous dietary fiber is beneficial to control blood glucose and blood lipid in T2DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In China, adolescents account for about a quarter of those treated for mental disorders each year, and adolescent mental health issues have become a social hotspot. Although several epidemiological surveys of mental disorders have been conducted in China, no study has yet focused on the prevalence of mental disorders among adolescents in a certain region of Zhejiang. METHODS In the first stage, 8219 middle school students aged 12-18 years in a city of Zhejiang Province (Shaoxing) were screened with the mental health screening checklist. In the second stage, participants who screened positive were tested with the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Children and Adolescents (MINI-KID) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV). Then, the prevalence of mental disorders were calculated. RESULTS The overall prevalence in this population was 12.4%, with prevalence rates exceeding 20% in both the 17- and 18-year-old age groups. The most common mental disorders were obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) (9.1%) and major depressive disorder (MDD) (8.9%). CONCLUSIONS Mental disorders are common among middle school students, and girls are at higher risk than boys. As the most prevalent mental disorders, OCD and MDD should receive timely attention, especially for upper grade students.

Abstract
Accurate identification and classification of bone marrow (BM) nucleated cell morphology are crucial for the diagnosis of hematological diseases. However, the subjective and time-consuming nature of manual identification by pathologists hinders prompt diagnosis and patient treatment. To address this issue, we developed Morphogo, a convolutional neural network-based system for morphological examination. Morphogo was trained using a vast dataset of over 2.8 million BM nucleated cell images. Its performance was evaluated using 508 BM cases that were categorized into five groups based on the degree of morphological abnormalities, comprising a total of 385,207 BM nucleated cells. The results demonstrated Morphogo's ability to identify over 25 different types of BM nucleated cells, achieving a sensitivity of 80.95%, specificity of 99.48%, positive predictive value of 76.49%, negative predictive value of 99.44%, and an overall accuracy of 99.01%. In most groups, Morphogo cell analysis and Pathologists' proofreading showed high intragroup correlation coefficients for granulocytes, erythrocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, and plasma cells. These findings further validate the practical applicability of the Morphogo system in clinical practice and emphasize its value in assisting pathologists in diagnosing blood disorders.

The identification of sex-specific biomarkers in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from elderly individuals with ischemic stroke. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to identify sex-specific biomarkers for ischemic stroke (IS) prophylaxis in elderly individuals. MATERIALS AND METHODS The GSE22255 dataset for elderly individuals with IS was retrieved from the gene expression omnibus database. Thereafter, gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were performed, as well as gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). Furthermore, protein-protein interactions (PPIs) were explored using the STRING database, and to screen central genes from the Cytoscape PPI network, corresponding to peripheral blood samples from elderly individuals, we used the molecular complex detection plug-in and cytoHubba. Moreover, a Venn diagram was used to visualize the key genes common among elderly women and men with IS. Statistical analysis was also performed, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to evaluate the specificity and sensitivity of the prediction of IS in the elderly. RESULTS Compared with the healthy controls, in elderly women with IS, 511 biological process (BP) terms, 16 molecular function (MF) terms, and 34 KEGG terms were significantly enriched, whereas in the elderly men with IS, 681 BP terms, 12 MF terms, and 44 KEGG terms were enriched. The GSEA revealed 99 and 140 significantly enriched gene sets in elderly women and men with IS, respectively. Furthermore, in the PPI network, 10 hub genes for each sex with high specificity and sensitivity were identified using ROC curves. CONCLUSIONS Ten genes for each sex with significant differential expression were also identified in individuals with IS. The novel sex-specific gene targets may be promising diagnostic or prognostic markers and potential therapeutic targets for IS in the elderly.

The Effect of Cinnamon on Glycolipid Metabolism: A Dose-Response Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials. Nutrients 2023; 15:2983. Abstract
(1) Background: The effect of cinnamon on the regulation of glycolipid levels in type 2 diabetic patients is still controversial, and there is a lack of research on the dose-response relationship between cinnamon and glycolipid indicators in type 2 diabetic patients. (2) Methods: This dose-response meta-analysis was performed to explore the effect of the cinnamon intervention on glycolipid metabolism. We conducted a comprehensive database search for literature published before November 2022. Nonlinear models were used for dose-response relationship analysis. (3) Results: We identified that a cinnamon intervention was effective in controlling triglyceride (TG) levels (mean difference = -7.31; 95%CI: -12.37, -2.25, p = 0.005) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels (mean difference = -6.78; 95%CI: -11.35, -2.22, p = 0.004) in type 2 diabetic patients; however, it also was able to increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (mean difference = 1.53; 95%CI: 1.01, 2.05, p < 0.001). However, the cinnamon intervention had no significant effect on the level of fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), or total cholesterol (TC) levels. We found a significant effect of the cinnamon intervention dose on the TG level (p-nonlinearity = 0.016) and LDL-C (p-nonlinearity = 0.019) in the nonlinear dose-response analysis. In the subgroup analysis, we found a hypoglycemic effect with the cinnamon dose ≤1200 mg (mean difference = -11.1, 95%CI: -14.64, -7.58, p < 0.001). (4) Conclusion: Cinnamon intervention may be beneficial in lowering TG and LDL-C levels while enhancing HDL-C levels, and the dosage of the intervention was an important factor in influencing the TG and LDL-C levels.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the risk and influencing factors of long-term mortality of valvular heart disease (VHD) adults aged 35 years and over in Chinese communities. Methods: A cohort study was carried out. The data of the subjects who underwent echocardiography were collected from the Chinese Hypertension Survey between 2012 and 2015 and survival outcomes were followed up between 2018 and 2019. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were plotted and compared using log-rank test. Cox proportional hazards models were used to analyze the influence of VHD on mortality. Results: During an average follow-up time of (4.6±0.9) years, a total of 23 237 participants (10 881 males and 12 356 females) were pooled into the final analysis from 5 eastern, 5 central, and 4 western provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China, with a mean age of (56.9±13.2) years. Among the included participants, 1 004 had VHD (467 males and 537 females), with a mean age was of (68.1±12.6) years. In the Kaplan-Meier analysis, participants with VHD had a significantly increased risk of all-cause mortality (log-rank χ2=351.82, P<0.001) and cardiovascular mortality (log-rank χ2=284.14, P<0.001) compared with those without VHD. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that compared with those without VHD, the participants with rheumatic VHD had a 45% increased risk of all-cause mortality (HR=1.45, 95%CI: 1.12-1.89) and degenerative VHD increased the risk of cardiovascular mortality by 69% (HR=1.69, 95%CI: 1.19-2.38). The risk factors of cardiovascular mortality for VHD were age 55 years and over (55-<75 years: HR=4.93, 95%CI: 1.17-20.85;≥75 years: HR=11.92, 95%CI: 2.85-49.80) and diabetes mellitus (HR=1.71, 95%CI: 1.00-2.93). Conclusions: VHD is a risk factor of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality among adults aged 35 years and over. Age 55 years and over and diabetes mellitus are adverse prognostic factors for patients with VHD.

Abstract
Endometrial carcinoma (ECa) is the most common malignant gynecological cancer, with an increased incidence and fatality rate worldwide, while the pathogenesis is still largely unknown. In this study, we confirmed that FBXO7, a gene coding FBXO7 E3 ubiquitin ligase, is significantly downregulated and mutated (5.87%; 31/528) in ECa specimens, and the abnormal low expression and mutations of FBXO7 are associated with the occurrence of ECa. We also identify the excessive expression of INF2 protein, a key factor that triggers mitochondrial division by recruiting the DRP1 protein, and the elevated INF2 protein is significantly negatively correlated with the low FBXO7 protein in ECa specimens. Mechanistically, FBXO7 restrains ECa through inhibiting INF2-associated mitochondrial division via FBXO7-mediated ubiquitination and degradation of INF2. Moreover, we found that ECa-associated FBXO7 mutants are defective in the ubiquitination and degradation of INF2, promoting ECa cells proliferation, migration and apoptosis inhibition via inducing mitochondrial hyper-division. In addition, we found that it could reverse FBXO7 deletion or ECa-associated FBXO7 mutants-induced proliferation, migration, apoptosis inhibition and mitochondrial hyper-division of ECa cells by INF2 or DNM1L knockdown, or DRP1 inhibitor Mdivi-1. In summary, our study shows that FBXO7 acts as a novel tumor suppressor in ECa by inhibiting INF2-DRP1 axis-associated mitochondrial division through the ubiquitination and degradation of INF2 while the effect is destroyed by ECa-associated FBXO7 and INF2 mutants, highlights the key role of FBXO7-INF2-DRP1 axis in ECa tumorigenesis and provides a new viewpoint to treat ECa patients with FBXO7 deletion or mutations by targeting INF2-DRP1 axis-associated mitochondrial division.

Abstract
Food protein-derived antihypertensive peptides are a representative type of bioactive peptides. Several models based on partial least squares regression have been constructed to delineate the relationship between the structure and activity of the peptides. Machine-learning-based models have been applied in broad areas, which also indicates their potential to be incorporated into the field of bioactive peptides. In this study, a long short-term memory (LSTM) algorithm-based deep learning model was constructed, which could predict the IC50 value of the peptide in inhibiting ACE activity. In addition to the test dataset, the model was also validated using randomly synthesized peptides. The LSTM-based model constructed in this study provides an efficient and simplified method for screening antihypertensive peptides from food proteins.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Schizophrenia is one of the most common and disabling mental disorders. About 20% of people with schizophrenia do not respond to antipsychotics, which are the mainstay of the treatment for schizophrenia today, and need to seek other treatment options. Magnetic seizure therapy (MST) is one of the novel non-invasive brain stimulation techniques that are being investigated in recent years. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of MST for people with schizophrenia. SEARCH METHODS On 6 March 2022, we searched the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group's Study-Based Register of Trials which is based on CENTRAL, CINAHL, ClinicalTrials.Gov, Embase, ISRCTN, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PubMed, and WHO ICTRP. SELECTION CRITERIA All randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing MST alone or plus standard care with ECT or any other interventions for people with schizophrenia. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: We performed reference screening, study selection, data extraction and risk of bias and quality assessment in duplicate. We calculated the risk ratios (RRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for binary outcomes and the mean difference (MD) and their 95% CIs for continuous outcomes. We used the original risk of bias tool for risk of bias assessment and created a Summary of findings table using GRADE. MAIN RESULTS We included one four-week study with 79 adults in acute schizophrenia, comparing MST plus standard care to ECT plus standard care in this review. We rated the overall risk of bias as high due to high risk of bias in the domains of selective reporting and other biases (early termination and baseline imbalance) and unclear risk of bias in the domain of blinding of participants and personnel. We found that MST and ECT may not differ in improving the global state (n = 79, risk ratio (RR) 1.12, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.73 to 1.70), overall (n = 79, mean difference (MD) -0.20, 95% CI -8.08 to 7.68), the positive symptoms (n = 79, MD 1.40, 95% CI -1.97 to 4.77) and the negative symptoms (n = 79, MD -1.00, 95% CI -3.85 to 1.85) in people with schizophrenia. We found that MST compared to ECT may cause less delayed memory deficit and less cognitive deterioration (n = 79, number of people with a delayed memory deficit, RR 0.63, 95% CI 0.41 to 0.96; n = 79, mean change in global cognitive function, MD 5.80, 95% CI 0.80 to 10.80), but also may improve more cognitive function (n = 47, number of people with any cognitive improvement, RR 3.30, 95% CI 1.29 to 8.47). We found that there may be no difference between the two groups in terms of leaving the study early due to any reason (n = 79, RR 2.51, 95% CI 0.73 to 8.59), due to adverse effects (n = 79, RR 3.35, 95% CI 0.39 to 28.64) or due to inefficacy (n = 79, RR 2.52, 95% CI 0.11 to 60.10). Since all findings were based on one study with high risk of bias and the confidence in the evidence was very low, we were not sure these comparable or favourable effects of MST over ECT were its true effects. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: Due to the paucity of data, we cannot draw any conclusion on the efficacy and tolerability of MST for people with schizophrenia. Well-designed RCTs are warranted to answer the question.

Abstract
Drought is one of the most adverse environmental stresses limiting plant growth and productivity. However, the underlying mechanisms regarding metabolism of non-structural carbohydrates (NSC) in source and sink organs are still not fully elucidated in woody trees. Saplings of mulberry cv Zhongshen1 and Wubu were subjected to a 15-day progressive drought stress. NSC levels and gene expression involved in NSC metabolism were investigated in roots and leaves. Growth performance and photosynthesis, leaf stomatal morphology, and other physiological parameters were also analysed. Under well-watered conditions, Wubu had a higher R/S, with higher NSC in leaves than in roots; Zhongshen1 had a lower R/S with higher NSC in roots than leaves. Under drought stress, Zhongshen1 showed decreased productivity and increased proline, abscisic acid, ROS content and activity of antioxidant enzymes, while Wubu sustained comparable productivity and photosynthesis. Interestingly, drought resulted in decreased starch and slightly increased soluble sugars in leaves of Wubu, accompanied by notable downregulation of starch-synthesizing genes and upregulation of starch-degrading genes. Similar patterns in NSC levels and relevant gene expression were also observed in roots of Zhongshen1. Concurrently, soluble sugars decreased and starch was unchanged in roots of Wubu and leaves of Zhongshen1. However, gene expression of starch metabolism in roots of Wubu was unaltered, but in leaves of Zhongshen1 starch metabolism was more activated. These findings revealed that intrinsic R/S and spatial distribution of NSC in roots and leaves concomitantly contribute to drought resistance in mulberry.

Abstract
Although the potent antibacterial ability of radezolid against Staphylococcus aureus has been widely reported worldwide, its antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity against the S. aureus clinical isolates from China remains elusive. In this study, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of radezolid was determined in S. aureus clinical isolates from China using the agar dilution method, and the relationship between radezolid susceptibility and ST distribution was also investigated. The anti-biofilm activity of radezolid against S. aureus was determined by a crystal violet assay and compared with that of linezolid and contezolid. The quantitative proteomics of S. aureus treated with radezolid was analyzed, and the genetic mutations in radezolid-induced resistant S. aureus were determined by whole-genome sequencing. The dynamic changes in transcriptional expression levels of several biofilm-related genes were analyzed by quantitative RT-PCR. Our data showed that radezolid MIC ranged from ≤0.125 to 0.5 mg/L, which was almost 1/4 × MIC of linezolid against S. aureus, indicating the greater antibacterial activity of radezolid than linezolid. The S. aureus clinical isolates with radezolid MICs of 0.5 mg/L were most widely distributed in ST239 of MRSA and ST7 of MSSA. Moreover, the more robust anti-biofilm activity of radezolid with subinhibitory concentrations (1/8 × MIC and 1/16 × MIC) was demonstrated against S. aureus when compared with that of contezolid and linezolid. Genetic mutations were found in glmS, 23S rRNA, and DUF1542 domain-containing protein in radezolid-induced resistant S. aureus selected by in vitro induction of drug exposure. Quantitative proteomic analysis of S. aureus indicated that the global expression of some biofilm-related and virulence-related proteins was downregulated. Quantitative RT-PCR further confirmed that the expressions of some downregulated biofilm-related proteins, including sdrD, carA, sraP, hlgC, sasG, spa, sspP, fnbA, and oatA, were decreased after 12 h and 24 h of exposure to radezolid. Conclusively, radezolid shows robust antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity against S. aureus clinical isolates from China when compared with contezolid and linezolid.

Abstract
Dissolvable and transient devices are important for environment-friendly disposal and information security. Similar to transient electronic devices, photonic devices use dissolvable metals such as magnesium and zinc to enable tunable plasmonic resonances. However, functional nanostructured substrates made of a common photoresist and a soft substrate are not dissolvable. In this study, we report the large-area, dissolvable polylactic-co-glycolic acid nanostructures formed by nanoimprint lithography and discuss the impact of the imprinting temperature and ambient conditions on the formed nanostructures. The deposition of a thin layer of metal can yield a quasi-3D plasmonic device, and the choice of zinc metal can result in an all-dissolvable device in water over a few days. Consequently, the transmission spectra of these plasmonic devices could be tuned after placement in water. This strategy yields a truly transient nanophotonic device that can be degraded after performing its function for a specific period.

Abstract
Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused several pandemic peaks worldwide due to its high variability and infectiousness, and COVID-19 has become a long-standing global public health problem. There is growing evidence that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) frequently causes multi-organ injuries and more severe neurological manifestations. Therefore, increased awareness of possible neurological complications is beneficial in preventing and mitigating the impact of long-term sequelae and improving the prognostic outcome of critically ill patients with COVID-19. Here, we review the main pathways of SARS-CoV-2 neuroinvasion and the potential mechanisms causing neurological damage. We also discuss in detail neurological complications, aiming to provide cutting-edge basis for subsequent related basic research and clinical studies of diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary pulmonary choriocarcinoma (PPC) is a highly malignant intrapulmonary tumor with a notorious prognosis. Few clinical studies have been undertaken to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of PPC. MATERIAL AND METHODS We systematically conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with PPC in the literature published in PubMed and CNKI databases until March 31, 2022. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. Survival curves were depicted using the Kaplan‒Meier method and compared using the stratified log-rank test. A Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate the prognostic factors. RESULTS A total of 68 patients were included, which consisted of 32 females and 36 males, with an average age of (44.5 ± 16.8) years old, ranging from 19 to 77 years. The clinical characteristics were mostly cough (49.2%), dyspnea (22.2%), hemoptysis (39.7%) and chest pain (39.7%). Kaplan‒Meier analysis showed that sex, age, hemoptysis, metastasis and treatment combining surgery with chemotherapy had a significant effect on survival. There were no effects on other outcomes. Furthermore, univariate and multivariable Cox regression analyses showed that the impact of the treatment combining surgery with chemotherapy on OS showed independent prognostic significance. CONCLUSION PPC is a rare disease that lacks specific clinical features. Early diagnosis with optimal management is a significant goal. Surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy may be the best treatment for PPC.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the prevalence of albuminuria in Chinese residents aged >35 years and its potential association with cardiovascular disease (CVD). Methods: A total of 34 647 Chinese subjects aged ≥35 years were selected by stratified multi-stage random sampling from 2012 to 2015. Data were collected through questionnaires, physical examinations, and laboratory tests. Albuminuria was categorized into 3 types according to urinary albumin-to- creatinine ratio: normal (<30 mg/g), microalbuminuria (MAU, 30-300 mg/g), and macroalbuminuria (≥300 mg/g). Measurement data were expressed as x¯±s, and t-tests were used for comparisons between indicators. Qualitative data were expressed as rate or constituent ratio, and the χ2 test or Kruskal-Wallis test was used to examine differences. Logistic regression was used for multivariate analyses. SAS 9.4 software was used for statistical analyses, and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The prevalence of abnormal albuminuria was 19.1%; the prevalence was 17.2% for MAU and lower in males (13.8%) than females (20.1%, P<0.01). The risk of CVD was higher among subjects with MAU (OR=1.23, 95%CI 1.12-1.35) and macroalbuminuria (OR=1.86, 95%CI 1.50-2.32). When MAU was complicated by hypertension and diabetes mellitus, the CVD risk was 1.76 times higher. Conclusions: The prevalence of MAU is high among Chinese subjects aged 35 years and over. Those with MAU have higher CVD risk, especially those with hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
Optical bound states in the continuum (BIC) are found in various dielectric, plasmonic and hybrid photonic systems. The localized BIC modes and quasi-BIC resonances can result in a large near-field enhancement and a high-quality factor with low optical loss. They represent a very promising class of ultrasensitive nanophotonic sensors. Usually, such quasi-BIC resonances can be carefully designed and realized in the photonic crystal that is precisely sculptured by electron beam lithography or interference lithography. Here, we report quasi-BIC resonances in large-area silicon photonic crystal slabs formed by soft nanoimprinting lithography and reactive ion etching. Such quasi-BIC resonances are extremely tolerant to fabrication imperfections while the optical characterization can be performed over macroscopic area by simple transmission measurements. By introducing lateral and vertical dimension changes during the etching process, the quasi-BIC resonance can be tuned over a wide range with the highest experimental quality factor of 136. We observe an ultra-high sensitivity of 1703 nm per RIU and a figure-of-merit of 65.5 for refractive index sensing. A good spectral shift is observed for detecting glucose solution concentration changes and adsorption of monolayer silane molecules. Our approach involves low-cost fabrication and easy characterization process for large-area quasi-BIC devices, which might enable future realistic optical sensing applications.

Radiation-induced cancer after treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a study from a high prevalence area. Rhinology 2023; 61:77-84. Abstract
BACKGROUND Radiation-induced cancer (RIC) is a late complication in patients who have been treated for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The comparison of index anatomic location, index histological type, and survival of RIC in patients with NPC after different radiotherapy modalities (intensity-modulated radiotherapy [IMRT], 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy [3D-CRT], and conventional 2D radiotherapy) is currently unavailable. METHODOLOGY A total of 38,565 patients with NPC who received curative-intent radiotherapy at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between January 1986 and December 2017 were reviewed. A total of 141 patients who developed RIC and fulfilled the study criteria were included. Categorical variables were compared by the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to evaluate overall survival. Cox proportional hazards models were used to examine the independent significance of RIC treatment. RESULTS Among IMRT, 3D-CRT, and conventional 2D radiotherapy, the incidence of mandible RIC was higher in patients who received 3D-CRT (0.07%) than in those who received IMRT (0%). The proportion of mandible RICs was higher in patients who received 3D-CRT (16.667%) than in those who received IMRT (0%) and conventional 2D radiotherapy (3.529%). Regarding the histological type, the incidence of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) was higher in patients who received conventional 2D radiotherapy (0.266%) than in those who received 3D-CRT (0.175%); patients who received IMRT had a higher proportion of SCC than those who received 3D-CRT/conventional 2D radiotherapy (86.4% vs. 41.7% vs. 74.2%); the incidence of sarcoma was higher in patients who received 3D-CRT (0.175%) than in those who received IMRT (0.025%); and the proportion of sarcoma was higher in patients who received 3D-CRT (41.667%) than in those who received IMRT (6.818%) and conventional 2D radiotherapy (17.647%). Patients who received surgery for RICs had better survival than those who received no surgery (64.49 vs. 12.42 months). In the univariate and multivariate analyses, surgery was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival. CONCLUSIONS Our results have implications for long-term follow-up of RIC, multidisciplinary management, and patient counseling of RIC after nasopharyngeal carcinoma treatment by treating clinicians.

Abstract
This paper is dedicated to reviewing relative research on humanistic caring ability of intern nursing students and proposing strategies to improve humanistic caring ability. Firstly, current paper collected information from both domestic and foreign literature, and then scientific analysis, summary and overview of research results were conducted with regards to humanistic caring ability of interns nursing students. By analyzing the current situation of intern nursing students' humanistic caring ability, and factors that have influence on humanistic caring ability of intern nursing students, the present paper is determined to come up with feasible change methods and form strategic paths. At present, the humanistic care ability of intern nursing students is relatively low. Students, schools, hospitals, and the society all exert influence on the humanistic care ability of intern nursing students. Although scholars' research is different in topics or focus, the conclusions drawn from this research are highly consistent. Nursing humanistic care is the internal quality of nursing staff concerning morality, humanity, and integration of knowledge, concepts, and attitudes. Nursing humanistic care ability includes caring experience ability and caring behavior ability. The necessary psychological characteristics of personality are regarded as a special ability. It is of great significance to promote the quality of nursing and humanistic care ability of intern nursing students who serve as the backup force of nursing talent team. Meanwhile, it is imperative to strengthen the construction of intern nursing students' humanistic care ability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to elucidate the clinical characteristics of alcoholic-hyperlipidemic etiologically complex acute pancreatitis. PATIENTS AND METHODS We reviewed complete data from 233 patients with acute pancreatitis treated in our hospital during the period January 2017-January 2022. They were divided into three groups according to etiology: alcoholic acute pancreatitis (AAP), hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP), and alcoholic-hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis (AHAP). General clinical data, co-morbidities, laboratory results, imaging data, and disease severity were analyzed and compared between groups. RESULTS The proportion of male individuals in the AHAP group was significantly higher than that in the HLAP group (p<0.001). Age of onset was lower and the number of cases with antibiotic use was higher in the AHAP group than in the AAP group (p<0.05). Additionally, the average alcohol intake each time and weekly alcohol intake were also higher in the AHAP group than in the AAP group (p<0.05). Comparison of disease severity (moderate and severe acute pancreatitis, severe acute pancreatitis, and modified computed tomography severity index score) revealed the disease condition to be more severe in the AHAP group than in the AAP and HLAP groups (p<0.05). Accordingly, patients in the AHAP group had longer hospital stays than those in the other two groups (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in alcohol consumption, severity, or length of hospital stay in the AHAP group (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS The clinical characteristics of patients in the AHAP, AAP and HLAP groups were different, and the patients in the AHAP group were more likely to have a moderate to severe disease course, with longer hospital stay. As a new AP classification concept, AHAP would offer high significance for diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

Abstract
To better protect lacustrine ecologies and understand the evolutionary process of lake environments, it is critical to study the interacting mechanisms between lakes and the surrounding groundwater. The Wuliangsu Lake watershed is the largest wetland in the Yellow River basin and is the discharge area of the Hetao Irrigation District (HID), which is one of the three largest agricultural production areas in China. Due to the influence of human activities, the discharge water from the HID has led to the deterioration of the Wuliangsu Lake ecology and the degradation of the lake environment. Based on long-term observation data and water sampling data collected in 2021, a water-salt equilibrium model was used to analyze the recharge rate of groundwater to the lake. The contribution rate of groundwater to lake recharge in the study area was calculated with a Bayesian mixing model by combining D and 18O stable isotope data. Furthermore, the environmental evolutionary process of the lake was also analyzed using the collected water quality data. The results show that channel drainage was the main source of recharge to Wuliangsu Lake, accounting for more than 75%, while groundwater contributed less than 5% of lake recharge. After implementing the ecological water supplement plan, the concentration of various ions in the lake decreased, the concentration of the total dissolved solids (TDS) in the lake decreased from 1.7 g/L in 2016 to 1.28 g/L in 2021, and the ecological environment was improved. The contribution of groundwater to lake recharge was quantitatively analyzed. The results of this study can facilitate the development of vital strategies for preventing the further deterioration of lake water quality and for protecting wetland ecologies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Emerging evidence indicates that epigenetic modulation of gene expression plays a key role in the progression of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). However, the molecular basis for how the altered epigenome modulates transcriptional responses, and thereby disease progression in ADPKD, remains largely unknown. METHODS Kidneys from control and ADPKD mice were examined for the expression of CDYL and histone acylations. CDYL expression and its correlation with disease severity were analyzed in a cohort of patients with ADPKD. Cdyl transgenic mice were crossed with Pkd1 knockout mice to explore CDYL's role in ADPKD progression. Integrated cistromic and transcriptomic analyses were performed to identify direct CDYL target genes. High-sensitivity mass spectrometry analyses were undertaken to characterize CDYL-regulated histone lysine crotonylations (Kcr). Biochemical analysis and zebrafish models were used for investigating CDYL phase separation. RESULTS CDYL was downregulated in ADPKD kidneys, accompanied by an increase of histone Kcr. Genetic overexpression of Cdyl reduced histone Kcr and slowed cyst growth. We identified CDYL-regulated cyst-associated genes, whose downregulation depended on CDYL-mediated suppression of histone Kcr. CDYL assembled nuclear condensates through liquid-liquid phase separation in cultured kidney epithelial cells and in normal kidney tissues. The phase-separating capacity of CDYL was required for efficient suppression of locus-specific histone Kcr, of expression of its target genes, and of cyst growth. CONCLUSIONS These results elucidate a mechanism by which CDYL nuclear condensation links histone Kcr to transcriptional responses and cystogenesis in ADPKD.

Abstract
Background: Previous studies have confirmed that both healthy diets and physical exercise have preventive effects with respect to cognitive decline with aging. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the associations of physical exercise with cognitive impairment differ in community-dwelling older adults with different dietary habits. Methods: In the 2008/2009 wave of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, 14,966 community-dwelling older adults (≥65 years) were included for analyses. Dietary habits (including daily intake of fruits, vegetables, tea, meat, fish, eggs, food made from beans, salt-preserved vegetables, sugar, garlic, milk products, nut products, mushroom or algae, vitamins and medicinal plants) and physical exercise were assessed. Cognitive impairment was evaluated using the Chinese version of the MMSE in the 2008/2009 and 2011/2012 waves. The effect modifications of physical exercise on cognitive impairment by dietary habits were estimated using logistic regression models. Results: Older adults who practiced physical exercise exhibited a trend of decreased probability of cognitive impairment at baseline and follow-up (OR = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.80–1.06, p = 0.273; OR = 0.83, 95% CI = 0.65–1.05, p = 0.123, respectively) compared with those who did not practice physical exercise. When stratified by dietary habits, physical exercise had a protective effect with respect to prevalent cognitive impairment in older adults who ate fruits (OR = 0.74, 95% CI = 0.58–0.94, p = 0.016), ate food made from beans (OR = 0.76, 95% CI = 0.62–0.93, p = 0.007), did not eat sugar (OR = 0.81, 95% CI = 0.68–0.98, p = 0.028) and ate milk products (OR = 0.75, 95% CI = 0.57–0.97, p = 0.030); in the longitudinal analyses, physical exercise had a protective effect with respect to incident cognitive impairment in older adults who ate fruits (OR = 0.63, 95% CI = 0.41–0.98, p = 0.040) and milk products (OR = 0.57, 95% CI = 0.35–0.94, p = 0.027). Fruits, food made from beans and milk products modified the associations of physical exercise with prevalent cognitive impairment (p values for interaction = 0.008, 0.005 and 0.082, respectively). Conclusions: The associations of physical exercise with cognitive impairment could be modified by certain dietary habits. Physical exercise was not found to be significantly protective with respect to cognitive impairment in older adults unless they had specific dietary habits. Thus, dietary habits should be emphasized when investigating the beneficial effects of physical exercise on cognitive function in community-dwelling older adults.

Abstract
Pea protein is considered to be a high quality dietary protein source, but also it is an ideal raw material for the production of bioactive peptides. Although the hypoglycemic effect of pea protein hydrolysate (PPH) has been previously reported, the underlying mechanisms, in particular its effect on the hepatic gluconeogenesis, remain to be elucidated. In the present study, we found that PPH suppressed glucose production in mouse liver cell-line AML-12 cells. Although both of the gluconeogenic and insulin signaling pathways in the AML-12 cells could be regulated by PPH, the suppression of glucose production was dependent on the inhibition of the cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB)-mediated signaling in the gluconeogenic pathway, but not the activation of insulin signaling. Findings from the present study have unveiled a novel role of PPH underlying its anti-diabetic activity, which could be helpful to accelerate the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals using PPH as a starting material.
