Effects of 3-nitrooxypropanol (3-NOP, Bovaer®10) and whole cottonseed on milk production and enteric methane emissions from dairy cows under Swiss management conditions. Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the potential effect and interaction of 3- nitrooxypropanol (3-NOP; Bovaer®) and whole cottonseed (WCS) on lactational performance, and enteric methane (CH4) emission of dairy cows. A total of 16 multiparous cows, including 8 Holstein Friesian (HF) and 8 Brown Swiss (BS) [224 ± 36 d in milk, 26 ± 3.7 kg milk yield], were used in a split-plot design, where the main plot was the breed of cows. Within each subplot, cows were randomly assigned to a treatment sequence in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin Square design with 2 × 2 factorial arrangements of treatments with 4, 24-d periods. The experimental treatments were: 1) Control (basal TMR), 2) 3-NOP (60 mg/kg TMR DM), 3) WCS (5% TMR DM), and 4) 3-NOP + WCS. The treatment diets were balanced for ether extract, crude protein, and NDF contents (4%, 16%, and 43% of TMR DM, respectively). The basal diets were fed twice daily at 0800 and 1800 h. Dry matter intake (DMI) and milk yield were measured daily, and enteric gas emissions were measured (using the GreenFeed system) during the last 3 d of each 24-d experimental period when animals were housed in tie stalls. There was no difference in DMI on treatment level, whereas the WCS treatment increased ECM yield and milk fat yield. There was no interaction of 3-NOP and WCS for any of the enteric gas emission parameters, but 3-NOP decreased CH4 production (g/d), CH4 yield (g/kg DMI), and CH4 intensity (g/kg ECM) by 13, 14 and 13%, respectively. Further, an unexpected interaction of breed by 3-NOP was observed for different enteric CH4 emission metrics: HF cows had a greater CH4 mitigation effect compared with BS cows for CH4 production (g/d; 18 vs. 8%), CH4 intensity (g/kg MY; 19% vs. 3%) and CH4 intensity (g/kg ECM; 19 vs. 4%). Hydrogen production was increased by 2.85 folds in HF and 1.53 folds in BS cows receiving 3-NOP. Further, there was a 3-NOP ' Time interaction for both breeds. In BS cows, 3-NOP tended to reduce CH4 production by 18% at around 4 h after morning feeding but no effect was observed at other time points. In HF cows, the greatest mitigation effect of 3-NOP (29.6%) was observed immediately after morning feeding and it persisted at around 23% to 26% for 10 h until the second feed provision, and 3 h thereafter, in the evening. In conclusion, supplementing 3-NOP at 60 mg/kg DM to a high fiber diet resulted in 18 to 19% reduction in enteric CH4 emission in Swiss Holstein Friesian cows. The lower response to 3-NOP by BS cows was unexpected and has not been observed in other studies. These results should be interpreted with caution due to low number of cows per breed. Lastly, supplementing WCS at 5% of DM improved ECM and milk fat yield but did not enhance CH4 inhibition effect of 3-NOP of dairy cows.

Abstract
Improving the mechanical properties of wound dressings and achieving personalized automatic real-time in situ deposition are important for accelerating wound management and repair. In this study, we report a self-designed automatic in situ deposition device based on solution blow spinning (SBS) to prepare poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) composite (PLGA/PLLA) nanofibrous membranes for wound dressing at a short distance. Polymer solution and in situ deposition conditions, including air pressure, spinning distance, solvent extrusion rate, and spinning rate, were optimized using orthogonal experiments and characterized via dynamic mechanical analysis. The microscopic morphology and physical properties of the prepared PLGA/PLLA composite nanofibrous membranes show that their strength, adhesion, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), water retention, water absorption, degradation, and other properties were sufficient for wound-dressing applications. To investigate the possibility of a biomedical wound-dressing material, tannic acid (TA) was incorporated into the PLGA/PLLA composite nanofibrous membranes. The resultant PLGA/PLLA/TA composite nanofibrous membranes exhibited good biocompatibility and exceptional antibacterial properties against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. A pilot animal study illustrated the potential of this in situ deposition of PLGA/PLLA/TA composite nanofibrous membranes across multiple applications in wound healing/repair by reducing wound scar tissue formation and fibroblast overactivation.

Abstract
Recently a dark matter-electron (DM-electron) paradigm has drawn much attention. Models beyond the standard halo model describing DM accelerated by high energy celestial bodies are under intense examination as well. In this Letter, a velocity components analysis (VCA) method dedicated to swift analysis of accelerated DM-electron interactions via semiconductor detectors is proposed and the first HPGe detector-based accelerated DM-electron analysis is realized. Utilizing the method, the first germanium based constraint on sub-GeV solar reflected DM-electron interaction is presented with the 205.4 kg·day dataset from the CDEX-10 experiment. In the heavy mediator scenario, our result excels in the mass range of 5-15 keV/c^{2}, achieving a 3 orders of magnitude improvement comparing with previous semiconductor experiments. In the light mediator scenario, the strongest laboratory constraint for DM lighter than 0.1 MeV/c^{2} is presented. The result proves the feasibility and demonstrates the vast potential of the VCA technique in future accelerated DM-electron analyses with semiconductor detectors.

Abstract
Idesia polycarpa, belonging to the Flacourtiaceae family, is a tall deciduous tree, widely distributed in some Asian countries. It is famous for its high yield of fruit known as oil grape, which is rich of linoleic acid and linolenic acid, and so on. To provide evidences for its safe use as food, subchronic toxicity of I. polycarpa fruit oil and no observed adverse effect level were performed in male and female specific pathogen-free Wistar rats. Based on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development guidelines, the oil was orally administered to rats by gavage at 0, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0mL/kg.bw/day for 90 days, followed by a 28-day recovery period. The results showed that no sign of oil-related toxicity, clinically or histologically, was observed in both male and female rats. Although there was a slight increase or decrease in some indicators such as hematology, serum chemistry, and so on, those changes were all within the normal ranges, and as presented in the 90-day study, the oil exhibited no toxic effect compared to the control rats. I. polycarpa might be a potential excellent and healthy vegetable oil resource.

Abstract
Photodetectors with a broad-band response range are widely used in many fields and are regarded as pivotal components of the modern miniaturized electronics industry. However, commercial broad-band photodetectors composed of traditional bulk semiconductor materials are still limited by complex preparation techniques, high costs, and a lack of mechanical strength and flexibility, which are difficult to satisfy the increasing demand for flexible and wearable optoelectronics. Therefore, researchers have been devoted to finding new strategies to obtain flexible, stable, and high-performance broad-band photodetectors. In this work, a novel self-assembled BiGaSeAs composite superlattice-structured nanowire was developed with a simple chemical vapor deposition method for easy fabrication. After the device assembling, the photodetector showed outstanding performance in terms of obvious Ion/Ioff (13.9), broad-band photoresponse (365-940 nm), excellent responsivity (1007.67 A/W), high detectivity (9.38 × 109 Jones), and rapid response (21 and 23 ms). The formation of microheterojunctions among various materials inside the nanowires also contributed to their extended broad-spectrum response and outstanding detection ability. These results indicate that the BiGaSeAs nanowires have potential applications in the field of flexible and wearable electronics.

Abstract
3-Methylindole (Skatole), a degradation product of tryptophan produced by intestinal microbial activity, significantly contributes to odor nuisance. Its adverse effects on animal welfare, human health, and environmental pollution have been noted. However, it is still unclear whether the intestinal microbiota mediates the impact of selenium (Se) on skatole production and what the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. A selenized glucose (SeGlu) derivative is a novel organic selenium compound. In this study, a diverse range of dietary SeGlu-treated levels, including SeGlu-deficient (CK), SeGlu-adequate (0.15 mg Se per L), and SeGlu-supranutritional (0.4 mg Se per L) conditions, were used to investigate the complex interaction of SeGlu on intestinal microbiome and serum metabolome changes in male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. The study showed that SeGlu supplementation enhanced the antioxidant ability in rats, significantly manifested in the increases of the activity of catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), while no change in the level of malonaldehyde (MDA). Metagenomic sequencing analysis verified that the SeGlu treatment group significantly increased the abundance of beneficial microorganisms such as Clostridium, Ruminococcus, Faecalibacterium, Lactobacillus, and Alloprevotella while reducing the abundance of opportunistic pathogens such as Bacteroides and Alistipes significantly. Further metabolomic analysis revealed phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan biosynthesis changes in the SeGlu treatment group. Notably, the biosynthesis of indole, a critical pathway, was affected by SeGlu treatment, with several crucial enzymes implicated. Correlation analysis demonstrated strong associations between specific bacterial species - Treponema, Bacteroides, and Ruminococcus, and changes in indole and derivative concentrations. Moreover, the efficacy of SeGlu-treated fecal microbiota was confirmed through fecal microbiota transplantation, leading to a decrease in the concentration of skatole in rats. Collectively, the analysis of microbiota and metabolome response to diverse SeGlu levels suggests that SeGlu is a promising dietary additive in modulating intestinal microbiota and reducing odor nuisance in the livestock and poultry industry.

Abstract
In modern rare-event search experiments such as neutrino experiments and dark matter search experiments, radon is one of the most important radiation backgrounds since it can emanate from nearly all the materials containing radium and migrate freely in the experiment system. To support the China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX) at China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL), a series of high-sensitivity radon detection systems with different electrostatic collection chambers were designed, and radon in nitrogen as well as boil-off liquid nitrogen was measured after accurate calibration and enrichment. Results showed that the calibration factors were 2.1 ± 0.2 (counts/h)/(Bq/m3), 21.1 ± 0.7 (counts/h)/(Bq/m3), 186.2 ± 2.2 (counts/h)/(Bq/m3), 387 ± 7 (counts/h)/(Bq/m3) and the 90% confidence level detection limits were 27.22 mBq/m3, 1.89 ∼ 3.06 mBq/m3, 0.41 ∼ 0.68 mBq/m3, 0.44 mBq/m3 for CJPL-HR2, CJPL-HR20, CJPL-HR140 and CJPL-HR300 measurement systems, respectively. Combined with an enrichment system consisting of twenty g CarboACT activated charcoals in a cold trap, the lower level detection limit (LLD) of typical No.1 CJPL-HR140 could reach 1.8 μBq/m3 with three days' enrichment time and three days' measurement time at 20 L/min sampling flowrate. For verification and application, the radon activity concentrations in nitrogen were 0.6 ∼ 1.9 mBq/m3 with an average of 1.1 ± 0.1 mBq/m3.While in boil-off liquid nitrogen, the radon activity concentrations ranged from 0.04 to 0.62 mBq/m3, and they were significantly lower in old-decayed liquid nitrogen compared to newly-filled liquid nitrogen, with a nearly five-fold decrease.

Abstract
Previously, we used secondary electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (SESI-MS) to investigate the diurnal patterns and signal intensities of exhaled (EX) volatile fatty acids (VFA) of dairy cows. The current study aimed to validate the potential of an exhalomics approach for evaluating rumen fermentation. The experiment was conducted in a switchback design, with 3 periods of 9 d each, including 7 d for adaptation and 2 d for sampling. Four rumen-cannulated original Swiss Brown (Braunvieh) cows were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 diet sequences (ABA or BAB): (A) low starch (LS; 6.31% starch on a dry matter basis) and (B) high starch (HS; 16.2% starch on a dry matter basis). Feeding was once per day at 0830 h. Exhalome (with the GreenFeed System), and rumen samples were collected 8 times to represent every 3 h of a day, and EX-VFA and ruminal (RM)-VFA were analyzed using SESI-MS and HPLC, respectively. Furthermore, the VFA concentration in the gas phase (HR-VFA) was predicted based on RM-VFA and Henry's Law (HR) constants. No interactions were identified between the types of diets (HS vs. LS) and the measurement methods on daily average VFA profiles (RM vs. EX or HR vs. EX), suggesting a consistent performance among the methods. Additionally, when the 3-h interval VFA data from HS and LS diets were analyzed separately, no interactions were observed between methods and time of day, indicating that the relative daily pattern of VFA molar proportions was similar regardless of the VFA measurement method used. The results revealed that the levels of acetate sharply increased immediately after feeding, trailed by an increase in the acetate:propionate ratio and a steady increase for propionate (2 h after feeding the HS diet, 4 h for LS), and butyrate. This change was more pronounced for the HS diet than the LS diet. However, there was no overall diet effect on the VFA molar proportions, although the measurement methods affected the molar proportions. Furthermore, we observed a strong positive correlation between the levels of RM and EX acetate for both diets (HS: r = 0.84; LS: r = 0.85), RM and EX propionate (r = 0.74), and RM and EX acetate:propionate ratio (r = 0.80). Both EX-VFA and RM-VFA exhibited similar responses to feeding and dietary treatments, suggesting that EX-VFA could serve as a useful proxy for characterizing RM-VFA molar proportions to evaluate rumen fermentation. Similar relationships were observed between RM-VFA and HR-VFA. In conclusion, this study underscores the potential of exhalomics as a reliable approach for assessing rumen fermentation. Moving forward, research should further explore the depth of exhalomics in ruminant studies to provide a comprehensive insight into rumen fermentation metabolites, especially across diverse dietary conditions.

Abstract
The efficiency of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is currently limited by poor light adsorption, rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers, and ineffective surface reaction rate. Although heterojunctions with innovative morphologies and structures can strengthen built-in electric fields and maximize the separation of photogenerated charges. However, how to rational design of novel multidimensional structures to simultaneously improve the above three bottleneck problems is still a research imperative. Herein, a unique Cu2O─S@graphene oxide (GO)@Zn0.67Cd0.33S Three dimensional (3D) hollow heterostructure is designed and synthesized, which greatly extends the carrier lifetime and effectively promotes the separation of photogenerated charges. The H2 production rate reached 48.5 mmol g-1 h-1 under visible light after loading Ni2+ on the heterojunction surface, which is 97 times higher than that of pure Zn0.67Cd0.33S nanospheres. Furthermore, the H2 production rate can reach 77.3 mmol g-1 h-1 without cooling, verifying the effectiveness of the photothermal effect. Meanwhile, in situ characterization and density flooding theory calculations reveal the efficient charge transfer at the p-n 3D hollow heterojunction interface. This study not only reveals the detailed mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution in depth but also rationalizes the construction of superior 3D hollow heterojunctions, thus providing a universal strategy for the materials-by-design of high-performance heterojunctions.

Abstract
AIMS The crosstalk between ferroptosis and neuroinflammation considerably impacts the pathogenesis of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI). Neutral polysaccharide from Gastrodia elata (NPGE) has shown significant effects against oxidative stress and inflammation. This study investigated the potential effects of NPGE on CIRI neuropathology. METHODS The effects of NPGE were studied in a mouse model of ischemic stroke (IS) and in oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R)-induced HT22 cells. RESULTS NPGE treatment decreased neurological deficits, reduced infarct volume, and alleviated cerebral edema in IS mice, and promoted the survival of OGD/R-induced HT22 cells. Mechanistically, NPGE treatment alleviated neuronal ferroptosis by upregulating GPX4 levels, lowering reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and Fe2+ excessive hoarding, and meliorating GSH levels and SOD activity. Additionally, it inhibited neuroinflammation by down-regulating the level of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, NLRP3, and HMGB1. Meanwhile, NPGE treatment alleviated ferroptosis and inflammation in erastin-stimulated HT22 cells. Furthermore, NPGE up-regulated the expression of NRF2 and HO-1 and promoted the translocation of NRF2 into the nucleus. Using the NRF2 inhibitor brusatol, we verified that NRF2/HO-1 signaling mediated the anti-ferroptotic and anti-inflammatory properties of NPGE. CONCLUSION Collectively, our results demonstrate the protective effects of NPGE and highlight its therapeutic potential as a drug component for CIRI treatment.

[A real-world study on the features of postpartum hepatitis flares in pregnant women with chronic HBV infection]. Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical features of postpartum hepatitis flares in pregnant women with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted. Patients who met the enrollment criteria were included. Liver function and HBV virology tests were collected from pregnant women with chronic HBV infection at delivery, 6, 24, 36, and 48 weeks after delivery through the hospital information and test system. Additionally, antiviral therapy types and drug withdrawal times were collected. Statistical analysis was performed on all the resulting data. Results: A total of 533 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria were included, with all patients aged (29.5±3.7) years old. A total of 408 cases received antiviral drugs during pregnancy to interrupt mother-to-child transmission. There was no significant difference in the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT, z = -1.981, P = 0.048), aspartate aminotransferase (AST, z = -3.956, P < 0.001), HBV load (z = -15.292, P < 0.001), and HBeAg (z = -4.77, P < 0.001) at delivery in patients who received medication and those who did not. All patients ALT, AST, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, and albumin showed an upward trend within six weeks after delivery. A total of 231 cases developed hepatitis within 48 weeks after delivery. Among them, 173 cases first showed ALT abnormalities within six weeks postpartum. Conclusion: Hepatitis flare incidence peaked six weeks after delivery or six weeks after drug withdrawal in pregnant women with chronic HBV infection.

Ni is a promising B-site doping element capable of improving the oxygen carrier performance of SrFeO3 perovskite. In this work, the effect of Ni doping on the formation and migration of oxygen vacancies in SrFe1-xNixO3-δ (x = 0, 0.0625, 0.125, 0.1875, and 0.25) is investigated using density functional theory calculations. Our results show that the oxygen vacancies formed from Ni-O-Fe chains exhibit lower formation energy (Ef) compared to those from Fe-O-Fe chains in each doping system. Additionally, Ef generally decreases with an increase of Ni content. This Ni-promoted formation of VO is attributed to three factors: weakened Ni-O bonding, the closure of O-2p states to the Fermi level by Ni-O hybridization, and Ni3+ decreasing the positive charges to be compensated by VO formation. Due to these multiple advantages, a modest Ni doping of x = 0.25 can induce a higher PO2 and a lower T comparted to the relatively larger Co doping of x = 0.5, thermodynamically. Kinetically, Ni-doping appears to be a disadvantage as it hinders oxygen migration, due to a higher oxygen migration barrier through SrSrNi compared to the SrSrFe pathway. However, the overall oxygen ion conduction would not be significantly influenced by hopping through a nearby pathway of SrSrFe with a low migration barrier in a system doped with a small amount of Ni. In a word, a small amount of Ni doping has an advantage over Co doping in terms of enhancing the oxygen carrier performance of the parent SrFeO3 system.

Abstract
AIMS Cell death, except for cuproptosis, in gliomas has been extensively studied, providing novel targets for immunotherapy by reshaping the tumor immune microenvironment through multiple mechanisms. This study aimed to explore the effect of cuproptosis on the immune microenvironment and its predictive power in prognosis and immunotherapy response. METHODS Eight glioma cohorts were included in this study. We employed the unsupervised clustering algorithm to identify novel cuproptosis clusters and described their immune microenvironmental characteristics, mutation landscape, and altered signaling pathways. We verified the correlation among FDX1, SLC31A1, and macrophage infiltration in 56 glioma tissues. Next, based on multicenter cohorts and 10 machine learning algorithms, we constructed an artificial intelligence-driven cuproptosis-related signature named CuproScore. RESULTS Our findings suggested that glioma patients with high levels of cuproptosis had a worse prognosis owing to immunosuppression caused by unique immune escape mechanisms. Meanwhile, we experimentally validated the positive association between cuproptosis and macrophages and its tumor-promoting mechanism in vitro. Furthermore, our CuproScore exhibited powerful and robust prognostic predictive ability. It was also capable of predicting response to immunotherapy and chemotherapy drug sensitivity. CONCLUSIONS Cuproptosis facilitates immune activation but promotes immune escape. The CuproScore could predict prognosis and immunotherapy response in gliomas.

Abstract
Propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) are the most common solvents used in electronic cigarette liquids. No long-term inhalation toxicity assessments have been performed combining conventional and multi-omics approaches on the potential respiratory effects of the solvents in vivo. In this study, the systemic toxicity of aerosol generated from a ceramic heating coil-based e-cigarette was evaluated. First, the aerosol properties were characterized, including carbonyl emissions, the particle size distribution, and aerosol temperatures. To determine toxicological effects, rats were exposed, through their nose only, to filtered air or a propylene glycol (PG)/ glycerin (VG) (50:50, %W/W) aerosol mixture at the target concentration of 3 mg/L for six hours daily over a continuous 28-day period. Compared with the air group, female rats in the PG/VG group exhibited significantly lower body weights during both the exposure period and recovery period, and this was linked to a reduced food intake. Male rats in the PG/VG group also experienced a significant decline in body weight during the exposure period. Importantly, rats exposed to the PG/VG aerosol showed only minimal biological effects compared to those with only air exposure, with no signs of toxicity. Moreover, the transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic analyses of the rat lung tissues following aerosol exposure revealed a series of candidate pathways linking aerosol inhalation to altered lung functions, especially the inflammatory response and disease. Dysregulated pathways of arachidonic acids, the neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, and the hematopoietic cell lineage were revealed through integrated multi-omics analysis. Therefore, our integrated multi-omics approach offers novel systemic insights and early evidence of environmental-related health hazards associated with an e-cigarette aerosol using two carrier solvents in a rat model.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study will focus on 4T1 cells, a murine mammary adenocarcinoma cell line, as the primary research subject. We aim to investigate the inhibitory effects and mechanisms of propranolol on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer cells, aiming to elucidate this phenomenon at the miRNA level. METHODS In this study, the EMT inhibitory effect of propranolol was observed through in vitro and animal experiments. For the screening of potential target miRNAs and downstream target genes, second-generation sequencing (SGS) and bioinformatics analysis were conducted. Following the screening process, the identified target miRNAs and their respective target genes were confirmed using various experimental methods. To confirm the target miRNAs and target genes, Western Blot (WB), reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and immunofluorescence experiments were performed. RESULTS In this study, we found that propranolol significantly reduced lung metastasis in 4T1 murine breast cancer cells (p < 0.05). In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that propranolol inhibited the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) as evidenced by Western Blot analysis (p < 0.05). Through next-generation sequencing (SGS), subsequent bioinformatics analysis, and PCR validation, we identified a marked downregulation of miR-499-5p (p < 0.05), suggesting its potential involvement in mediating the suppressive effects of propranolol on EMT. Overexpression of miR-499-5p promoted EMT, migration, and invasion of 4T1 cells, and these effects were not reversed or attenuated by propranolol (Validated via Western Blot, wound healing assay, transwell migration, and invasion assays, p < 0.05). Sox6 was identified as a functional target of miR-499-5p, with its downregulation correlating with the observed EMT changes (p < 0.05). Silencing Sox6 or overexpressing miR-499-5p inhibited Sox6 expression, further promoting the processes of EMT, invasion, and migration in 4T1 cells. Notably, these effects were not alleviated by propranolol (validated via Western Blot, wound healing assay, transwell migration, and invasion assays, p < 0.05). The direct interaction between miR-499-5p and Sox6 mRNA was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter gene assay. CONCLUSION These results suggest that propranolol may have potential as a therapeutic agent for breast cancer treatment by targeting EMT and its regulatory mechanisms.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical changes in levels of the new clinical marker serum hepatitis B virus (HBV) pregenomic RNA (pgRNA) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) with long-term antiviral therapy. Methods: 100 CHB cases who were initially treated with nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) at Peking University First Hospital were included. The levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), HBV DNA, hepatitis B e-antigen (HBeAg), and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) during the follow-up period were measured. The TaqMan-based real-time quantitative PCR method was used to detect serum HBV pgRNA levels. The independent sample t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to compare continuous variables between groups, while Pearson's χ (2) test and Fisher's exact test were used to compare categorical variables. Results: HBV pgRNA levels decreased significantly in patients who developed virological responses at 48 weeks (n = 54) during subsequent treatment compared to those who did not (n = 46). The HBV pgRNA level was lower in HBeAg-positive patients than in HBeAg-negative patients (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). Patients with higher HBV DNA and HBeAg-positivity levels at baseline had a higher HBV pgRNA level following antiviral therapy. There was no statistically significant difference in HBV pgRNA levels in patients with different HBV pgRNA levels at baseline after antiviral therapy. There was no correlation between serum HBV pgRNA and HBsAg at baseline, but there was a correlation after long-term antiviral therapy, while there was a weak correlation between HBV pgRNA and HBsAg at the fifth and ninth years of antiviral therapy (r = 0.262, P = 0.031; r = 0.288, P = 0.008). Conclusion: HBV pgRNA levels were higher with higher HBV activity in CHB patients with long-term antiviral therapy.

Abstract
Background The association between body weight perception and intuitive eating among undergraduate students in China remains insufficiently understood. In the present study, we were aimed to examine the correlation between body weight perception, body image, and intuitive eating and determine whether the link between body weight perception and intuitive eating was influenced by body image. Methods A total of 1,050 undergraduate students completed the survey. Participants provided self-reported demographic details and completed two structured scales. The Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults (BESAA) and the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2) were employed to assess body image and intuitive eating. Analysis of the mediation model was conducted using version 4.1 of the PROCESS Macro. Results with a value of p less than 0.05 were deemed statistically significant. Results The average age of the participants was 20.08 years (SD = 1.64). Among the students, 837 (79.7%) were female, and 212 (20.3%) were male. Body image (r = -0.429, p < 0.001) and intuitive eating (r = -0.313, p < 0.001) exhibited significant negative associations with body weight perception. Furthermore, body image showed a significant positive correlation with intuitive eating (r = 0.318, p < 0.001). Significant mediating effects of body image were identified concerning intuitive eating and body weight perception in the right weight (95% bootstrap CI = 0.007, 0.040) and overweight groups (95% bootstrap CI = -0.048, -0.009). The indirect effects of body image constituted 12.19% and 15.33% of the total effects of intuitive eating in these two groups. Conclusion Although the indirect effects were not substantial, these outcomes shed light on the partial understanding of how body weight perception impacted intuitive eating via body image. Importantly, our findings emphasized the significance of body image and body weight perception, offering a novel insight for prospective interventions targeting undergraduate students.

Abstract
CONTEXT Molecular dynamics simulations are performed to clarify the deformation mechanism of β-HMX crystal in the [Formula: see text] space group setting under uniaxial compression. Nanoscale shear bands whose internal structure is regular enough to form twin with parent structure were found under high strain rate loading in the [010] direction. These deformation twins are formed by the change of lattice orientation due to atomic translation under shear stress, with [Formula: see text] (or [Formula: see text] twin planes and [Formula: see text] (or [Formula: see text] twin directions. Molecular rotation can significantly reduce the activation barrier of twin systems; meanwhile, the change of lattice direction is accomplished by a serial of fractional translation steps. Our results implicate that these factors, such as decreasing the activation energy barrier of twin systems via molecular rotation and new twin systems introducing shear bands, should be considered via applying the crystal plasticity model to investigate the hot spot formation in energetic explosive crystals. METHODS All simulations were carried out with the MD code package LAMMPS. The non-reactive and flexible molecular force field proposed by Smith and Bharadwaj was adopted to simulate the uniaxial compression of the monoclinic β-HMX molecular crystal in the [Formula: see text] space group setting on (010) plane along [010] direction. In addition, the Shake algorithm was used to constrain all C-H bonds to the equilibrium length. Two methods, i.e., the Von Mises strain and the relative displacements of molecules, were applied to analyze the structure of twin type shear bands of β-HMX during compression. Visualization analysis for atomistic simulations was performed by using OVITO.

Abstract
Female fecundity declines in a nonlinear manner with age during the reproductive years, even as ovulatory cycles continue, which reduces female fertility, disrupts metabolic homeostasis, and eventually induces various chronic diseases. Despite this, the aging-related cellular and molecular changes in human ovaries that occur during these reproductive years have not been elucidated. Here, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of human ovaries is performed from different childbearing ages and reveals that the activation of the pyroptosis pathway increased with age, mainly in macrophages. The enrichment of pyroptotic macrophages leads to a switch from a tissue-resident macrophage (TRM)-involve immunoregulatory microenvironment in young ovaries to a pyroptotic monocyte-derived macrophage (MDM)-involved proinflammatory microenvironment in middle-aged ovaries. This remolded ovarian immuno-microenvironment further promotes stromal cell senescence and accelerated reproductive decline. This hypothesis is validated in a series of cell and animal experiments using GSDMD-KO mice. In conclusion, the work expands the current understanding of the ovarian aging process by illustrating a pyroptotic macrophage-involved immune mechanism, which has important implications for the development of novel strategies to delay senescence and promote reproductive health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Periodontitis and hepatitis virus infection significantly impact individuals' well-being and are prevalent public health concerns globally. Given the current scarcity of large-scale cross-sectional epidemiological studies, this study seeks to enrich the evidence base by examining the link between these two conditions. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning the years 2003-2018. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the association between periodontitis and hepatitis virus infection, adjusting for the potential confounding factors. Subsequently, a stratified analysis was conducted to explore the relationship between periodontitis and hepatitis virus infection based on age, gender, race, marital status, alcohol consumption, smoking status, and the presence of chronic diseases. RESULTS In this study, which included 5755 participants, there was a positive association between hepatitis virus infection and periodontitis (odds ratio [OR]: 2.609 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.513, 4.499]). Furthermore, a significant association was observed between moderate periodontitis and hepatitis virus infection (OR: 2.136 [95% CI: 1.194, 3.822]), and this association was even stronger for severe periodontitis (OR: 3.583 [95% CI: 1.779, 7.217]). Importantly, this positive association between hepatitis virus infection and periodontitis was consistent across different subgroups. CONCLUSIONS This study presents evidence of a significant association between periodontitis and hepatitis virus infection. These findings highlight the crucial importance of integrating periodontal health and liver health considerations into public health interventions. Further research is necessary to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and develop targeted interventions for effectively managing periodontitis and hepatitis virus infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Poor sleep quality will have adverse effects on physical and mental health, quality of life and other aspects of middle-aged and older adults. Sleep quality is affected by many factors. Whether the sleep quality measures of the participants had changed in the previous or subsequent time period is not easily taken into account. Moreover, there have been no studies on this topic in Chinese middle-aged and older adults. The objective of this study was to mitigate the bias of sleep quality assessment, and analyze the association between personality traits and sleep quality in Chinese middle-aged and older adults. METHODS The data came from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). A total of 6031 participants aged ≥ 45 years were included in this study. Personality characteristics were evaluated based on the scores of each dimension of Big Five personality traits. Sleep duration and sleep perception were used as indicators to measure sleep quality. Logistic models were used to analyze the relationship between personality traits and sleep duration or sleep perception, respectively. RESULTS 4.5% of the participants had abnormal sleep duration, and 14.4% had a pessimistic sleep perception. Conscientiousness was rated the highest among the personality traits (3.97 ± 0.6). Participants with higher scores for extraversion personality traits had more normal sleep duration (OR = 0.77, 95% CI: 0.64-0.93) and more optimistic sleep perception (OR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.76-0.96). Using the Internet and feeling unwell in the past week have a moderating effect on the impact of conscientiousness personality characteristics on sleep duration or sleep perception, respectively (but not overall sleep quality). In addition, participants with a spouse or no recent physical discomfort tended to have a normal sleep duration and a more optimistic sleep perception. CONCLUSIONS The higher the score of extraversion personality traits, the better the overall sleep quality of middle-aged and older adults. Having a spouse and feeling unwell were the important factors affecting their sleep quality. Specific personality traits intervention should be carried out for middle-aged and older adults with poor sleep quality to make their personality traits are closer to extraversion. In addition, middle-aged and older adults without spouses should be encouraged to marry or remarry. We will strengthen health management and medical expenditures for middle-aged and older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is known to be associated with chronic low-grade inflammation and endometrial dysfunction. Chronic endometritis (CE) is a type of local inflammation that can contribute to endometrial dysfunction in infertile women. Some clinicians recommend screening for CE in women at high risk, such as those with endometrial polyps. However, it is still uncertain whether there is a relationship between PCOS and CE, as well as whether women with PCOS require enhanced screening for CE. This study was to assess the incidence of CE among infertile women with PCOS by hysteroscopy combined with histopathology CD138 immunohistochemical staining of endometrium. METHODS A total of 205 patients in the PCOS group and 4021 patients in the non-PCOS group from July 2017 to August 2022 were included in this retrospective study. After nearest-neighbor 1:4 propensity score matching (PSM), 189 PCOS patients were matched with 697 non-PCOS patients. Basic information was recorded. The CE incidence was compared. The risk factors affecting CE incidence were also analyzed. RESULTS No significantly higher CE incidence in infertile women with PCOS were found either in total analysis or after PSM (P = 0.969; P = 0.697; respectively). Similar results were discovered in the subgroup of Body Mass Index (BMI) (P = 0.301; P = 0.671; P = 0.427; respectively) as well as the four PCOS phenotypes (P = 0.157). Intriguingly, the incidence of CE increased as BMI increased in the PCOS group, even though no significant differences were found (P = 0.263). Multivariate logistic regression showed that age, infertility duration, infertility type, PCOS, and obesity were not the independent risk factors affecting CE incidence. CONCLUSION The incidence of CE in PCOS patients did not significantly increase compared to non-PCOS patients. Similarly, no significant differences in the incidence of CE were observed among different PCOS phenotypes. The current evidence does not substantiate the need for widespread CE screening among PCOS women, potentially mitigating the undue financial and emotional strain associated with such screenings.

Abstract
Kagome lattice provides a distinctive platform to investigate various correlated electron orders. Recently, an unconventional charge density wave (CDW) with novel chirality is observed in the kagome metalAV3Sb5(A= K, Rb, Cs), and the origin of which is still unclear. Here, using a tight-binding model and the mean-field method, we calculate the electron order in the quasi-two-dimensional kagome lattice with 1/3 electron filling, and show that the chiral CDW emerges under a set of parameters withC6rotational symmetry but without mirror symmetry. Physically, the reason why we choose this set of parameters is based on the possible tangential distortion of the kagome lattice. Our results provide a fresh insight to understand the microscopic origin of the unconventional CDW inAV3Sb5.

Abstract
Background Death education has been confirmed to be an effective method to enhance nursing students' attitudes and coping abilities toward death. However, integrated Narrative Pedagogy into the death education to explore educational effectiveness is still limited. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of a death education based on Narrative Pedagogy in a palliative care course on the attitude toward death, coping with death, and attitude toward caring for the dying among undergraduate nursing students in China. Methods The study was designed as a pre-post intervention study with a quasi-experimental design. All the participants received 6 class hours of death education which was designed in a palliative care course. The death education includes preparation, presentation, discussion, reflection, and practice of the narrative materials. Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R), Coping with Death Scale (CDS), and Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying-Form B (FATCOD-Form B) were used to measure outcomes. Results Sixty undergraduate nursing students who consented. There were statistically significant increases in the mean score of neutral acceptance and approach acceptance in the DAP-R, CDS, and FATCOD-Form B before and after the intervention. Conclusion This death education integrated Narrative Pedagogy which indicated to improve attitude toward death, competence to cope with death, and attitude toward the care of dying patients. The findings assist teachers in understanding the importance and urgency of death education, as well as providing a favorable approach to death education. However, the long-term effectiveness still needs to study in further.

Abstract
Understanding charge transport among metal particles with sizes of approximately 1 nm poses a great challenge due to the ultrasmall nanosize, yet it holds great significance in the development of innovative materials as substitutes for traditional semiconductors, which are insulative and unstable in less than ∼10 nm thickness. Herein, atomically precise gold nanoclusters with well-defined compositions and structures were investigated to establish a mathematical relation between conductivity and interparticle distance. This was accomplished using high-pressure in situ resistance characterizations, synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), and the Murnaghan equation of state. Based on this precise correlation, it was predicted that the conductivity of Au25(SNap)18 (SNap: 1-naphthalenethiolate) solid is comparable to that of bulk silver when the interparticle distance is reduced to approximately 3.6 Å. Furthermore, the study revealed the coexisting, competing tunneling, and incoherent hopping charge transport mechanisms, which differed from those previously reported. The introduction of conjugation-structured ligands, tuning of the structures of metal nanoclusters, and use of high-pressure techniques contributed to enhanced conductivity, and thus, the charge carrier types were determined using Hall measurements. Overall, this study provides valuable insight into the charge transport in gold nanocluster solids and represents an important advancement in metal nanocluster semiconductor research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder. Pyridostigmine (PYR), an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor, has been shown to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in several animal models for inflammation-associated conditions. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of PYR on pristane-induced (PIA) in Dark Agouti (DA) rats. METHOD DA rats were intradermally infused with pristane to establish the PIA model, which was treated with PYR (10 mg/kg/day) for 27 days. The effects of PYR on synovial inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut microbiota were evaluated by determining arthritis scores, H&E staining, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and biochemical assays, as well as 16S rDNA sequencing. RESULTS Pristane induced arthritis, with swollen paws and body weight loss, increased arthritis scores, synovium hyperplasia, and bone or cartilage erosion. The expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in synovium was higher in the PIA group than in the control group. PIA rats also displayed elevated levels of malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, superoxide dismutase, and catalase in plasma. Moreover, sequencing results showed that the richness, diversity, and composition of the gut microbiota dramatically changed in PIA rats. PYR abolished pristane-induced inflammation and oxidative stress, and corrected the gut microbiota dysbiosis. CONCLUSION The results of this study support the protective role of PYR in PIA in DA rats, associated with the attenuation of inflammation and correction of gut microbiota dysbiosis. These findings open new perspectives for pharmacological interventions in animal models of RA.

Abstract
This work investigated the existence and influence of residual plural scattering in electron magnetic chiral dichroism (EMCD) spectra. A series of low-loss, conventional core-loss, and q-resolved core-loss spectra at Fe-L2,3 edges were detected from areas of different thicknesses in a plane-view sample of Fe/MgO (001) thin film. It reveals by comparison that there remains noticeable plural scattering in q-resolved spectra acquired at two particular chiral positions after deconvolution, and the residual scattering is more significant in thicker areas than thinner ones. Accordingly, the orbital-to-spin moment ratio extracted from EMCD spectra, which is the difference between the two q-resolved spectra after deconvolution, would be in principle increased with increasing sample thickness. The randomly fluctuated moment ratios displayed in our experiments are greatly attributed to a slight and irregular variation of local diffraction conditions due to the bending effect and imperfect epitaxy in detected areas. We suggest EMCD spectra should be acquired from sufficiently thin samples to minimize the plural scattering effect in originally detected spectra before any deconvolution. In addition, great care should be taken for slight misorientation and imperfect epitaxy when performing EMCD investigation on epitaxial thin films using a nano beam.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the influence of restrictive and liberal red blood cell suspension (RBCs) transfusions on the prognosis of premature infants and to analyze the influencing factors to provide a reference for the transfusion strategy of preterm infants. METHODS Retrospective analysis was conducted on 85 cases of anemic premature infants treated in our center, including 63 cases in the restrictive transfusion group and 22 in the liberal transfusion group. RESULTS RBCs transfusions were effective in both groups, and there were no statistically significant differences in post-transfusion hemoglobin and hematocrit between the two groups (P > 0.05). The outcome events: the duration of ventilatory support was statistically prolonger in the restrictive group compared with the liberal group (P < 0.001); however, the differences in mortality, the increased weight before discharge, and length of stay in the hospital within the two groups were not statistically significant (P = 0.237, 0.36 and 0.771, respectively). Univariate survival analysis showed that age, birth weight, Apgar 1 min and Apgar 10 min scores were the influencing factors for death, with P values of 0.035, 0.004, <0.001, and 0.013, respectively; COX regression analysis showed that Apgar 1 min score was an independent factor of the survival time of preterm infants (P = 0.002). CONCLUSION Compared with the restrictive transfusion group, liberal transfusion patients presented a shorter duration of ventilatory support, which is more beneficial to the prognosis of premature infants.

Abstract
To address the challenges associated with nonlinearity, non-stationarity, susceptibility to redundant noise interference, and the difficulty in extracting fault feature signals from rolling bearing signals, this study introduces a novel combined approach. The proposed method utilizes the variational mode decomposition (VMD) and K-singular value decomposition (K-SVD) algorithms to effectively denoise and enhance the collected rolling bearing signals. Initially, the VMD method is employed to separate the overall noise into intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), reducing the noise content within each IMF. To optimize the mode component, K, and the penalty factor, α, in VMD, an improved arithmetic optimization algorithm (IAOA) is employed. This ensures the selection of optimal parameters and the decomposition of the signal into a set of IMFs, forming the original dictionary. Subsequently, the signals are decomposed into multiple IMFs using VMD, and an original dictionary is constructed based on these IMFs. K-SVD is then applied to the original dictionary to further reduce the noise in each IMF, resulting in a denoised and enhanced signal. To validate the efficacy of the proposed method, rolling bearing signals collected from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and thrust bearing test rigs were utilized. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach in denoising and enhancing the rolling bearing signals.

Abstract
Pathological conditions in diabetic feet cause surface temperature variations, which can be captured quantitatively using infrared thermography. Thermal images captured during recovery of diabetic feet after active cooling may reveal richer information than those from passive thermography, but diseased foot regions may exhibit very small temperature differences compared with the surrounding area, complicating plantar foot segmentation in such cold-stressed active thermography. In this study, we investigate new plantar foot segmentation methods for thermal images obtained via cold-stressed active thermography without the complementary information from color or depth channels. To better deal with the temporal variations in thermal image contrast when planar feet are recovering from cold immersion, we propose an image pre-processing method using a two-stage adaptive gamma transform to alleviate the impact of such contrast variations. To improve upon existing deep neural networks for segmenting planar feet from cold-stressed infrared thermograms, a new deep neural network, the Plantar Foot Segmentation Network (PFSNet), is proposed to better extract foot contours. It combines the fundamental U-shaped network structure, a multi-scale feature extraction module, and a convolutional block attention module with a feature fusion network. The PFSNet, in combination with the two-stage adaptive gamma transform, outperforms multiple existing deep neural networks in plantar foot segmentation for single-channel infrared images from cold-stressed infrared thermography, achieving an accuracy of 97.3% and 95.4% as measured by Intersection over Union (IOU) and Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) respectively.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The histopathologic diagnosis of colorectal sessile serrated lesions (SSLs) and hyperplastic polyps (HPs) is of low consistency among pathologists. This study aimed to develop and validate a deep learning (DL)-based logical anthropomorphic pathology diagnostic system (LA-SSLD) for the differential diagnosis of colorectal SSL and HP. METHODS The diagnosis framework of the LA-SSLD system was constructed according to the current guidelines and consisted of 4 DL models. Deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) 1 was the mucosal layer segmentation model, DCNN 2 was the muscularis mucosa segmentation model, DCNN 3 was the glandular lumen segmentation model, and DCNN 4 was the glandular lumen classification (aberrant or regular) model. A total of 175 HP and 127 SSL sections were collected from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University during November 2016 to November 2022. The performance of the LA-SSLD system was compared to 11 pathologists with different qualifications through the human-machine contest. RESULTS The Dice scores of DCNNs 1, 2, and 3 were 93.66%, 58.38%, and 74.04%, respectively. The accuracy of DCNN 4 was 92.72%. In the human-machine contest, the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the LA-SSLD system were 85.71%, 86.36%, and 85.00%, respectively. In comparison with experts (pathologist D: accuracy 83.33%, sensitivity 90.91%, specificity 75.00%; pathologist E: accuracy 85.71%, sensitivity 90.91%, specificity 80.00%), LA-SSLD achieved expert-level accuracy and outperformed all the senior and junior pathologists. CONCLUSIONS This study proposed a logical anthropomorphic diagnostic system for the differential diagnosis of colorectal SSL and HP. The diagnostic performance of the system is comparable to that of experts and has the potential to become a powerful diagnostic tool for SSL in the future. It is worth mentioning that a logical anthropomorphic system can achieve expert-level accuracy with fewer samples, providing potential ideas for the development of other artificial intelligence models.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Radiation therapy (RT) is indispensable for managing thoracic carcinomas. However, its application is limited by radiation-induced lung injury (RILI), one of the most common and fatal complications of thoracic RT. Nonetheless, the exact molecular mechanisms of RILI remain poorly understood. MATERIALS/METHODS To elucidate the underlying mechanisms, various knockout (KO) mouse strains were subjected to 16 Gy whole-thoracic RT. RILI was assessed by qRT-PCR, ELISA, histology, western blot, immunohistochemistry, and CT examination. To perform further mechanistic studies on the signaling cascade during the RILI process, pulldown, CHIP, and rescue assays were conducted. RESULTS We found that the cGAS-STING pathway was significantly upregulated after irradiation exposure in both the mouse models and clinical lung tissues. Knocking down either cGAS or STING led to attenuated inflammation and fibrosis in mouse lung tissues. NLRP3 is hardwired to the upstream DNA-sensing cGAS-STING pathway to trigger of the inflammasome and amplification of the inflammatory response. STING deficiency suppressed the expressions of the NLRP3 inflammasome and pyroptosis-pertinent components containing IL-1β, IL-18, and cleaved caspase-1. Mechanistically, interferon regulatory factor 3, the essential transcription factor downstream of cGAS-STING, promoted the pyroptosis by transcriptionally activating NLRP3. Moreover, we found that RT triggered the release of self-dsDNA in the bronchoalveolar space, which is essential for the activation of cGAS-STING and the downstream NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis. Of note, Pulmozyme, an old drug for the management of cystic fibrosis, was revealed to have the potential to mitigate RILI by degrading extracellular dsDNA and then inhibiting the cGAS-STING-NLRP3 signaling pathway. CONCLUSION These results delineated the crucial function of cGAS-STING as a key mediator of RILI, and described a mechanism of pyroptosis linking cGAS-STING activation with the amplification of initial RILI. These findings indicate that the dsDNA-cGAS-STING-NLRP3 axis might be potentially amenable to therapeutic targeting for RILI.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) To analyze the effect of cisplatin cycles on the clinical outcomes of patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). MATERIALS/METHODS This study included 749 patients with LACC treated with CCRT between January 2011 and December 2015. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the optimal cut-off of cisplatin cycles in predicting clinical outcomes. Clinicopathological features of the patients were compared using the Chi-square test. Prognosis was assessed using log-rank tests and Cox proportional hazard models. Toxicities were compared among different cisplatin cycle groups. RESULTS Based on the ROC curve, the optimal cut-off of the cisplatin cycles was 4.5 (sensitivity, 64.3%; specificity, 54.3%). The 3-year overall, disease-free, loco-regional relapse-free, and distant metastasis-free survival for patients with low-cycles (cisplatin cycles < 5) and high-cycles (≥ 5) were 81.5% and 89.0% (P < 0.001), 73.4% and 80.1% (P = 0.024), 83.0% and 90.8% (P = 0.005), and 84.9% and 86.8% (P = 0.271), respectively. In multivariate analysis, cisplatin cycles were an independent prognostic factor for overall survival. In the subgroup analysis of high-cycle patients, patients who received over five cisplatin cycles had similar overall, disease-free, loco-regional relapse-free, and distant metastasis-free survival to patients treated with five cycles. Acute and late toxicities were not different between the two groups. CONCLUSION Cisplatin cycles were associated with overall, disease-free, and loco-regional relapse-free survival in LACC patients who received CCRT. Five cycles appeared to be the optimal number of cisplatin cycles during CCRT.

Abstract
Inhibition of T cell infiltration dampens antitumor immunity and causes resistance to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy. By in vivo CRISPR screening in B16F10 melanoma in female mice, here we report that loss of melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) in melanoma cells activates antitumor T cell response and overcomes resistance to ICB. Depletion of MC1R from another melanocytic melanoma model HCmel1274 also enhances ICB efficacy. By activating the GNAS-PKA axis, MC1R inhibits interferon-gamma induced CXCL9/10/11 transcription, thus impairing T cell infiltration into the tumor microenvironment. In human melanomas, high MC1R expression correlates with reduced CXCL9/10/11 expression, impaired T cell infiltration, and poor patient prognosis. Whereas MC1R activation is restricted to melanoma, GNAS activation by hotspot mutations is observed across diverse cancer types and is associated with reduced CXCL9/10/11 expression. Our study implicates MC1R as a melanoma immunotherapy target and suggests GNAS-PKA signaling as a pan-cancer oncogenic pathway inhibiting antitumor T cell response.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Caprini Risk Score (CRS) is a validated predictive instrument for venous thrombosis. Previous investigators have shown that a high CRS is associated with a higher risk of mortality from thrombotic diseases. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the association between the CRS and prognosis of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). METHODS Secondary analysis of data from a retrospective cohort study was conducted. Patients were classified into 3 CRS-based categories (CRS ≤ 2, CRS = 3-4, and CRS ≥ 5, indicating low, medium, and high, respectively). Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression models were used to assess the prognosis of patients with ACS. All-cause mortality and cardiac mortality were the end points. RESULTS Two hundred fifty-four patients (12.8%) died during follow-up. Multivariate Cox regression models identified CRS as an independent risk factor for all-cause mortality among patients with ACS (CRS = 3-4 vs CRS ≤ 2, hazard ratio: 3.268, 95% confidence interval: 1.396-7.647, P = .006; CRS ≥ 5 vs CRS ≤ 2, hazard ratio: 4.099, 95% confidence interval: 1.708-9.841, P = .002). Pearson correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between CRS and fibrinogen level ( r = 0.486, R2 = 0.765, P < .001) as well as D-dimer level ( r = 0.480, R2 = 0.465, P < .001). CONCLUSION The CRS is a useful prognostic assessment instrument for patients with ACS, and the risk stratification of patients with ACS can be achieved based on their CRS at admission.

Background The high multimorbidity and lower socioeconomic status (SES) of older adults, can lead to catastrophic health expenditures (CHEs) for older adults' households. However, whether widowed older adults will bear such a financial burden has yet to be explored. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of multimorbidity patterns and SES on CHE in Chinese widowed older adults. Methods Data was obtained from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). This is a cross-sectional study. A total of 1,721 widowed participants aged 60 years and older were enrolled in the study. Latent class analysis was performed based on 14 self-reported chronic diseases to identify multimorbidity patterns. The logistic model and Tobit model were used to analyze the influence of multimorbidity patterns and SES on the incidence and intensity of CHE, respectively. Results About 36.72% of widowed older adults generated CHE. The incidence and intensity of CHE were significantly higher in the cardiovascular class and multisystem class than in the minimal disease class in multimorbidity patterns (cardiovascular class, multisystem class, and minimal disease class). Among SES-related indicators (education, occupation and household per capita income), respondents with a middle school and above education level were more likely to generate CHE compared to those who were illiterate. Respondents who were in the unemployed group were more likely to generate CHE compared to agricultural workers. In addition, respondents aged 70-79 years old, geographically located in the east, having other medical insurance, or having fewer family members are more likely to generate CHE and have higher CHE intensity. Conclusion Widowed older adults are at high risk for CHE, especially those in the cardiovascular and multisystem disease classes, and those with low SES. Several mainstream health insurances do not provide significant relief. In addition, attention should be paid to the high-risk characteristics associated with CHE. It is necessary to carry out the popularization of chronic disease knowledge, improve the medical insurance system and medical service level, and provide more policy preferences and social support to widowed older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Malnutrition is associated with a high risk of mortality in adults with ischemic stroke (IS). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between malnutrition and the risk of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) as only a few studies examined the relationship between malnutrition and the risk of SAP in IS. METHODS Patients were included from emergency departments of five tertiary hospitals in the REtrospective Multicenter study for Ischemic Stroke Evaluation (REMISE) study from January 2020 to December 2020. Malnutrition was defined according to the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT), Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), and Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) systems. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to explore the association between malnutrition and risk of SAP. RESULTS We enrolled 915 patients with IS, 193 (14.75%), 495 (54.1%), and 148 (16.2%) of whom were malnourished according to the PNI, CONUT, and GNRI scores, respectively. SAP occurred in 294 (32.1%) patients. After adjusting for confounding influencing factors in the logistic regression analysis, malnutrition (moderate and severe risk vs. absent malnutrition) was independently associated with an increased risk of SAP based on the PNI (odds ratio [OR], 5.038; 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.435-10.421, P < 0.001), CONUT (OR, 6.941; 95% CI 3.034-15.878, P < 0.001), and GNRI (OR, 2.007; 95% CI 1.186-3.119, P = 0.005) scores. Furthermore, adding malnutrition assessment indices to the A2DS2 score significantly improved the ability to predict SAP by analysis of receiver operating characteristic curves and net reclassification improvement. CONCLUSION Malnutrition was notably prevalent in patients with IS and independently associated with an increased risk of SAP. Further studies are required to identify the effect of interventions on malnutrition to reduce the risk of SAP.

Abstract
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition for patients. Biomarkers can be used for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognostic assessment of sepsis. In recent years, new biomarkers for sepsis have been discovered, and more than 250 biomarkers have been identified so far. The complexity of the sepsis process and the increased sensitivity of various detection techniques will lead to the emergence of new biomarkers. However, there is still a lack of specific diagnostic biomarkers and effective therapeutic approaches for sepsis in clinical practice. Therefore, the search for reliable biomarkers and the evaluation of the role of biomarkers in sepsis will undoubtedly aid in clinical decision-making. This article reviews the advances on research of sepsis biomarkers in order to improve understanding of current biomarkers of sepsis, and provide reference for the application of biomarkers in clinical diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of sepsis.

Abstract
Hydrogen, as the smallest atom and a key component of water, can penetrate into materials in various forms (e.g., atoms, molecules), which has significant effects on their properties; hence, the diffusion behavior of hydrogen has aroused widespread attention. One of the major compositions in the Earth's interior is MgO. Thus, the diffusion behavior of hydrogen in MgO under high pressure is vital for understanding the water cycle in the Earth's interior. However, the hydrogen diffusion behavior in MgO under high pressure is still poorly understood. Herein, the hydrogen diffusion behaviors in MgO with increasing pressure are systematically investigated in the framework of first-principles methods. Our results show that separated H atoms tend to converge to form H2 molecules, and H2 molecules tend to gather together. The energy barriers of both H and H2 diffusion in MgO increase with pressure. Notably, our results illustrate that hydrogen prefers to diffuse in solid MgO in its molecular state even under high pressure. Furthermore, the attempt frequency of hydrogen in MgO increases with temperature, while it decreases with pressure. This study will deepen our understanding of hydrogen diffusion behavior in MgO under high pressure and provide guidance for studies on particle diffusion in solid materials under extreme conditions.

Early strategy vs. late initiation of renal replacement therapy in adult patients with acute kidney injury: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The optimal time to start renal replacement therapy (RRT) for acute kidney injury (AKI) remains controversial. We aim to compare the effects of early vs. delayed RRT initiation on clinical outcomes in adult patients with AKI. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, ClinicalTrials.gov, and the International Clinical Trial registry platform were systematically searched from inception to 7 August 2022. The review included randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing early and delayed initiation of RRT in AKI patients. The selected primary outcomes were short-term and long-term mortality. Secondary outcomes included RRT dependency, intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay, hospital length of stay, mechanical ventilator-free days, vasoactive agents-free days, RRT-free days, and adverse events. RESULTS Overall, 15 RCTs, including 5,625 patients, were analyzed. Early RRT showed no survival benefit when compared to the delayed therapy (28-or 30-day mortality: RR, 1.01, 95% CI: 0.94-1.08, p = 0.87; 60-day mortality: RR, 0.87, 95% CI: 0.71-1.06, p = 0.16; 90-day mortality: RR, 1.00, 95% CI: 0.88-1.13, p = 0.97; in-hospital mortality: RR, 1.05, 95% CI: 0.88-1.24, p = 0.58; ICU mortality: RR, 1.00, 95% CI: 0.91-1.10, p = 0.98). The delayed RRT did not lead to a higher risk of RRT dependency, ICU, or hospital length of stay than the early RRT. Similarly, early initiation of RRT did not lead to longer ventilator-free, vasoactive agent-free, and RRT-free days. However, early RRT initiation was associated with more adverse events. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggested that early RRT initiation was not associated with survival benefits or better clinical outcomes and increased the risk of RRT-associated adverse events. Current evidence does not support the use of early RRT for AKI patients without urgent indications.

Abstract
Pelargonidin (PG), a derivative of anthocyanins, has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Herein, the protective effect and the mechanism of PG in counteract the osteoarthritis (OA) progression were needed to further evaluate. In the current study, C57BL/6 mice was induced by destabilization of medial meniscus (DMM) surgery to establish the OA model. Primary chondrocytes were acquired from the knee cartilage of newborn mice. Then, PG was administrated to OA mice and IL-1β-stimulated chondrocytes to evaluate its protective effects, respectively. Results uncovered that no conspicuous cytotoxic effects were observed when chondrocytes were treated with PG at a concentration lower than 40 μM for 24-72h. Thus, 10 μM, 20 μM, and 40 μM PG were chosen for subsequent experiments in vitro. Then, we observed that 10, 20, and 40 μM PG reduced the levels of IL-6, TNF-α, COX-2 and iNOS in chondrocytes. In line, PG inhibited the IL-1β-induced ECM catabolism in chondrocytes, as evidenced by deepening toluidine blue staining, increased expression of Collagen II, and decreased expressions of ADAMTS5 and MMP13. Moreover, PG also reduced the IL-1β-stimulated p-p65 overexpression and nuclear translocation of p65 in chondrocytes. In vivo, Safranin O/Fast green and HE staining showed that articular cartilage surface morphology was basically smooth and complete after PG treatment for 8 weeks. Similarly, OARSI scores and MMP13 expression were apparently decreased, whereas Aggrecan expression was elevated in PG-treated mice 8 weeks after DMM surgery. In conclusion, PG can effectively ameliorate inflammatory reactions and cartilage degeneration via suppressing the NF-κB pathway, thereby restraining the OA progression.

Abstract
Gastric cancer is a malignant epithelial neoplasm of the stomach, including adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, gastroblastoma and neuroendocrine neoplasms, without gastric metaplastic carcinoma. We describe a 69-year-old male patient with gastric cancer who presented with a novel, biphasic histologic morphology with one component consisting of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma and the other component consisting of chondromyxoid matrix with adenocarcinoma transition to, between the two components without a spindle cell component. The histological morphology of this case is similar to matrix-producing metaplastic breast carcinoma. Therefore, we diagnose this case as gastric carcinoma with chondromyxoid matrix similar matrix-producing metaplastic breast carcinoma.

Abstract
Selenium (Se), a well-known antioxidant, is important for male fertility and sperm quality. The gut microbiota is involved in vital activities and cross-talk between reproduction and the gut axis. It is still unclear whether the gut microbiota mediates the impact of selenium on semen quality, and what the underlying mechanisms may be. A selenized glucose (SeGlu) derivative is a novel organic Se compound. After 7 days of acclimation, the Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats (230 g, 6 weeks) were divided into three drinking groups: deionized water group (CK), SeGlu 0.15 group (0.15 mg Se per L), and SeGlu 0.4 group (0.4 mg Se per L). All animals were euthanized 30 days post-treatment. Serum and intratesticular testosterone and semen parameters were measured. Metagenomic and non-targeted metabolomic approaches were used to study the effects of SeGlu on the gut microbiota and serum metabolites of rats. In both the SeGlu 0.15 Group and the SeGlu 0.4 Group, we found a significant increase in seminiferous epithelium thickness. While the SeGlu 0.4 Group had a tendency to increase with insignificant difference, the SeGlu 0.15 Group significantly improved the sperm viability, survival rate, and seminal plasma fructose. SeGlu had no effect on intratesticular testosterone levels, or abnormal sperm counts. Measured serum testosterone levels using ELISA and LC-MS, which showed a decreasing trend. ELISA did not reveal significant differences, but LC-MS indicated a significant decrease in SeGlu 0.4 group. Meanwhile, the SeGlu 0.15 Group reduced the abundance of harmful bacteria such as Rikenella, Barnesiella, Tenacibaculum, and Aeromonas while increasing the abundance of beneficial microbiota such as Intestinimonas, Christensenella, Coprococcus, and Butyrivibrio. Linear discriminant analysis Effect Size (LEfSe) identified the SeGlu 0.15 group's feature genera as Roseburia, Clostridium, Ruminococcus, and Eubacterium. Serum metabolites showed that the SeGlu 0.15 Group increased 5 beta-androstane-3,17-dione while decreasing estrone and 2-methoxyestradiol (2-MeOE2). In conclusion, the SeGlu 0.15 Group can significantly alter the levels of several sex hormones in serum, improve the quality of rats' sperm, and reduce harmful bacterial colonization. SeGlu 0.15 may be used as an effective dietary supplement.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Natural products play a critical role in drug development and is emerging as a potential source of biologically active metabolites for therapeutic intervention, especially in cancer therapy. In recent years, there is increasing evidence that many natural products may modulate autophagy through various signaling pathways in cervical cancer. Understanding the mechanisms of these natural products helps to develop medications for cervical cancer treatments. AIM OF THE STUDY In recent years, there is increasing evidence that many natural products may modulate autophagy through various signaling pathways in cervical cancer. In this review, we briefly introduce autophagy and systematically describe several classes of natural products implicated in autophagy modulation in cervical cancer, hoping to provide valuable information for the development of cervical cancer treatments based on autophagy. MATERIALS AND METHODS We searched for studies on natural products and autophagy in cervical cancer on the online database and summarized the relationship between natural products and autophagy modulation in cervical cancer. RESULTS Autophagy is a lysosome-mediated catabolic process in eukaryotic cells that plays an important role in a variety of physiological and pathological processes, including cervical cancer. Abnormal expression of cellular autophagy and autophagy-related proteins has been implicated in cervical carcinogenesis, and human papillomavirus infection can affect autophagic activity. Flavonoids, alkaloids, polyphenols, terpenoids, quinones, and other compounds are important sources of natural products that act as anticancer agents. In cervical cancer, natural products exert the anticancer function mainly through the induction of protective autophagy. CONCLUSIONS The regulation of cervical cancer autophagy by natural products has significant advantages in inducing apoptosis, inhibiting proliferation, and reducing drug resistance in cervical cancer.

Abstract
Microplastics (MPs) and antibiotics are emerging pollutants in aquatic environments. MPs can absorb antibiotics, resulting in compound pollution. Batch adsorption experiments were used to investigate the adsorption behavior of CIP on polylactic (PLA) and polyethlene (PE) under various environmental conditions. After a lengthy aging process, both MPs underwent significant physicochemical changes. The equilibrium adsorption capacities of aged PLA and PE were 0.382 mg/g and 0.28 mg/g, respectively, which increased by 18.06% and 75% compared to pristine PLA and PE. The sorption capacity of MPs increased when the pH of the solution approached the dissociation constant (6.09, 8.74) of CIP. When the salinity of the solution was 3.5%, the adsorption capacity of MPs was reduced by more than 65%. The adsorption capacity of MPs rapidly decreased when 20 mg/L fulvic acid was added. Because norfloxacin (NOR) competes for adsorption sites on the microplastic, CIP adsorption is inhibited. Based on the adsorption models, FTIR, and XPS spectra, we demonstrated that the process was monolayer adsorption, with chemical and physical mechanisms including hydrogen bonding, π-π conjugation, ion exchange, and electrostatic interactions controlling it. Thus, PLA and PE microplastics may be a potential vector for CIP in water, and their interaction is mainly influenced by the physicochemical properties of the MPs and environmental factors.

Following the publication of the above paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that the α‑tubulin protein bands shown in Fig. 2A on p. 689 were strikingly similar to data appearing in different form in the following paper: Tian R, Li Y and Gao M: Shikonin causes cell‑cycle arrest and induces apoptosis by regulating the EGFR‑NF‑κB signalling pathway in human epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells. Biosci Rep 35: e00189, 2015. Moreover, there were a pair of overlapping data panels shown in the cell invasion and migration assay data in Fig. 5B on p. 692, one identified instance of western blot data being shared between Figs. 3D and 4F, and a pair of overlapping data panels in Fig. 5D, such that all these data, which were intended to have shown the results from differently performed experiments, may have been derived from a smaller number of original sources. Owing to the fact that the contentious data in the above article were already under consideration for publication prior to its submission to International Journal of Molecular Medicine and an overall lack of confidence in the presented data, the Editor has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. Abstract
BackgroundInflammation and thrombosis are involved in the development of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). Our aim was to evaluate the predictive value of a novel, simplified, thrombo-inflammatory prognostic score (TIPS) that combines both inflammatory and thrombus biomarkers in the early phase of ischemic stroke (IS).MethodsThe study population consisted of 897 patients with a first diagnosis of IS admitted to the emergency department of five tertiary hospitals in China. Of these, the data from 70% of patients was randomly selected to derive the model and the other 30% for model validation. A TIPS of “2” was indicative of high inflammation and thrombosis biomarkers and “1” of one biomarker, with “0” indicative of absence of biomarkers. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the association between TIPS and SAP.ResultsThe TIPS was an independent predictor of SAP and 90-day mortality, with the incidence of SAP being significantly higher for patients with a high TIPS. The TIPS provided superior predictive value for SAP than clinical scores (A2DS2) and biomarkers currently used in practice, for both the derivation and validation sets. Mediation analysis revealed that TIPS provided a predictive value than either thrombotic (NLR) and inflammatory (D-dimer) biomarkers alone.ConclusionThe TIPS score may be a useful tool for early identification of patients at high-risk for SAP after IS.

Abstract
The construction of heterojunction photocatalysts is an effective method to improve photocatalytic efficiency since the potential gradient and built-in electron field established at the junction could enhance the efficiency of charge separation and interfacial charge transfer. Nevertheless, heterojunction photocatalysts with strong built-in electron fields remain difficult to build since the two adjacent constitutes must be satisfied with an appropriate band alignment, redox potential, and carrier concentration gradient. Here, an efficient charge transfer-induced doping strategy is proposed to enhance the heterojunction built-in electron field for stable and efficient photocatalytic performance. Carrier transfer tests show that the rectification ratio of the n-TiO2-X/n-BiOI heterojunction is significantly enhanced after being coated with graphene oxide (GO). Consequently, both the hydrogen production and photodegradation performance of the GO composite heterojunction are considerably enhanced compared with pure TiO2-X, BiOI, and n-TiO2-X/n-BiOI. This work provides a facile method to prepare heterojunction photocatalysts with a high catalytic activity.

Abstract
A model of the Li-diffused inactive layer in P-type high purity germanium detectors is built to describe the transportation of charge carriers and calculate the charge collection efficiency therein. The model is applied to calculate charge collection efficiency of a P-type point-contact germanium detector used in rare event physics experiments and validated in another P-type semi-planar germanium detector. The calculated charge collection efficiency curves are well consistent with measurements for both detectors. Effects of the Li doping processes on the charge collection efficiency are discussed based on the model. This model can be easily extended to other P-type germanium detectors, for instance, the P-type broad-energy Ge detector, and the P-type inverted-coaxial point-contact detector.

Abstract
Spintronics is one of the main topics in condensed matter physics, in which half-metallicity and giant magnetoresistance are two important objects to achieve. In this work, we study the spin dependent transport properties of zigzag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNR) with asymmetric edge hydrogenation and different magnetic configurations using the non-equilibrium Green's function method combined with density functional calculations. Our results show that when the magnetic configurations of the electrodes change from parallel to antiparallel, the currents in the tunnel junction change substantially, resulting in a high conductance state and a low conductance state, with the tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) ratio larger than 1 × 105% achieved. In addition, in the parallel magnetic configurations, an ideal bipolar spin filtering effect is observed, making it flexible to switch the spin polarity of current by reversing the bias direction. All these features originate from the spin semiconducting behavior of the asymmetrically hydrogenated ZGNRs. The findings suggest that asymmetric edge hydrogenation provides an important way to construct multi-functional spintronic devices with ZGNRs.
