Abstract
Sensitive substances have attracted wide attention due to their rich functional activities, such as antibiosis activities, antioxidant activities and prevent disease, etc. However, the low stability of sensitive substances limits their bioavailability and functional activities. Protein-based microcapsules can encapsulate sensitive substances to improve their adverse properties due to their good stability, strong emulsifying ability and wide source. Therefore, it is necessary to fully elaborate and summarize protein-based microcapsules to maximize their potential benefits in nutritional interventions. The focus of this review is to highlight the classification of protein-based microcapsules. In addition, the principles, advantages and disadvantages of preparation methods for protein-based microcapsules are summarized. Some novel preparation methods for protein-based microcapsules are also emphasized. Moreover, the mechanism of protein-based microcapsules that release sensitive substances in vitro is elucidated and summarized. Furthermore, the applications of protein-based microcapsules are outlined. Protein-based microcapsules can effectively encapsulate sensitive substances, which improve their bioavailability, and provide protective effects during storage and gastrointestinal digestion. In addition, microcapsules can improve the sensory quality of food and enhance its stability. Abstract
Nanotechnological drug delivery platforms represent a new paradigm for cancer therapeutics as they improve the pharmacokinetic profile and distribution of chemotherapeutic agents over conventional formulations. Among nanoparticles, lipid-based nanoplatforms possessing a lipid core, that is, lipid-core nanoparticles (LCNPs), have gained increasing interest due to lipid properties such as high solubilizing potential, versatility, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. However, due to the wide spectrum of morphologies and types of LCNPs, there is a lack of consensus regarding their terminology and classification. According to the current state-of-the-art in this critical review, LCNPs are defined and classified based on the state of their lipidic components in liquid lipid nanoparticles (LLNs). These include lipid nanoemulsions (LNEs) and lipid nanocapsules (LNCs), solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) and nanostructured lipid nanocarriers (NLCs). In addition, we present a comprehensive and comparative description of the methods employed for their preparation, routes of administration and the fundamental role of physicochemical properties of LCNPs for efficient antitumoral drug-delivery application. Market available LCNPs, clinical trials and preclinical in vivo studies of promising LCNPs as potential treatments for different cancer pathologies are summarized.

Abstract
Biochar is a low cost, porous and solid material with an extremely high carbon content, various types of functional groups, a large specific surface area and many other desirable characteristics. Thus, it is often used as an adsorbent or a loading matrix. Nano-magnesium oxide is a crystalline material with small particles and strong ion exchangeability. However, due to the high surface chemical energy, it easily forms agglomerates of particles. Therefore, to combine the advantages of biochar and magnesium, metal magnesium nanoparticles can be loaded onto the surface of biochar with different modification techniques, resulting in biochars with low cost and high adsorption performance to be used as an adsorption matrix (collectively referred to as Mg@BC). This review presents the effects of different Mg@BC preparation methods and synthesis conditions and summarizes the removal capabilities and adsorption mechanisms of Mg@BC for different types of pollutants in water. In addition, the review proposes the prospects for the development of Mg@BC to solve various problems in the future.

Abstract
Microwave has been widely used in many fields, including communication, medical treatment and military industry; however, the corresponding generated radiations have been novel hazardous sources of pollution threating human's daily life. Therefore, designing high-performance microwave absorption materials (MAMs) has become an indispensable requirement. Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been considered as one of the most ideal precursor candidates of MAMs because of their tunable structure, high porosity and large specific surface area. Usually, MOF-derived MAMs exhibit excellent electrical conductivity, good magnetism and sufficient defects and interfaces, providing obvious merits in both impedance matching and microwave loss. In this review, the recent research progresses on MOF-derived MAMs were profoundly reviewed, including the categories of MOFs and MOF composites precursors, design principles, preparation methods and the relationship between mechanisms of microwave absorption and microstructures of MAMs. Finally, the current challenges and prospects for future opportunities of MOF-derived MAMs are also discussed.

Abstract
Rapid industrialization and urbanization have produced a lot of hazardous substances in water and wastewater, which has turned into a crucial issue to the environment and the public health. Recently, iron carbon microelectrolysis (IC-ME) has attracted extensive attention in environmental remediation due to its low costs and excellent performance. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of a more systematic review on IC-ME preparation methods, their performance, and the interaction mechanisms of IC-ME in the remediation of wastewater. Herein, this work summarizes the synthetic methods, application of IC-ME materials, and the mechanism of pollutant removal by IC-ME. A variety approaches have been applied to prepare IC-ME materials, and the preparation methods and conditions have a certain influence on the properties of IC-ME materials, thus affecting the performance of pollutant removal. The mechanisms of IC-ME for contaminants removal are very complex, including adsorption, coprecipitation, reduction, surface complexation, and oxidation. Moreover, research vacant fields and problems that existed in the application of IC-ME are proposed. At last, the problems to be addressed to adapt IC to future applications are introduced. This paper reviews and prospects IC-ME wastewater remediation technology, which provides a reference for further scientific research and engineering applications.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Umai is a popular, traditional, native dish of the Melanau ethnic group in Sarawak. It is prepared using thin slices of raw marine fish marinated with calamansi juice and seasoned with other ingredients. The local people believe that the acidity of the citrus juice, along with the use of salt and spice, can slightly cook the fish and remove the fishy smell. The aim of this study was to investigate (i) the different umai handling and preparation practices and (ii) the personal experience of umai consumption among respondents. A purposive sample of 100 umai makers, divided into two equal groups, professionals and nonprofessionals, participated in the study. We found that Spanish mackerel and hairfin anchovy were ranked first and second in the list of species chosen for making umai, with the former mostly preferred by the professional group, as opposed to the latter, which was preferred by the nonprofessional group. Black pomfret was ranked third, where it is equally preferred by both groups. About 20% of respondents would freeze the raw fish chunks prior to preparing umai, as opposed to 26% who would sun dry their fish. Other techniques, such as salting and marinating (using calamansi juice), were also used during the preparation of umai. Most of the respondents indicated that they would consider the umai ready to eat soon after marinating (with all ingredients) the raw fish. One-third of both respondent groups indicated that they would chill the umai dish at 4°C for 30 min before serving. The respondents could not provide any rationale behind these food preparation practices. Overall, this study provides evidence of the different preparation methods for umai. These practices can thus be considered important targets for public health education campaigns seeking to improve food safety surrounding this food group. HIGHLIGHTS

Effect of preparation methods on the performance of CuFe-SSZ-13 catalysts for selective catalytic reduction of NO x with NH 3. J Environ Sci (China) 2019; 81:195-204. Abstract
CuFe-SSZ-13 catalyst showed excellent performance in the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR) for diesel engine exhaust purification. To investigate the effect of preparation methods on NH3-SCR performance, Fe was loaded into one-pot synthesized Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts through solid-state ion-exchange (SSIE), homogeneous deposition precipitation (HDP) and liquid ion-exchange (IE), respectively. Three CuFe-SSZ-13 catalysts showed similar SO2 resistance, which was better than that of Cu-SSZ-13. The improvement was attributed to the protection of Fe species. Hydrothermal stability of three CuFe-SSZ-13 catalysts was significantly different, which was attributed to the state of active species caused by different preparation methods. Compared with the other two catalysts, more active species existed inside the zeolite pores of CuFe-SSZ-13SSIE. During hydrothermal aging, the aggregation of these active species in the pores caused the collapse of catalyst structure, ultimately leading to the deactivation of CuFe-SSZ-13SSIE. In contrast, Fe species was dispersed better on the surface over CuFe-SSZ-13IE, enhancing the hydrothermal stability of catalysts. Consequently, Fe loading effectively improved the resistance of SO2 and H2O over Cu-SSZ-13. For CuFe-SSZ-13, large amounts of active species located inside the zeolite pores are not beneficial for the hydrothermal stability.

Abstract
Thiouracil, 2-sulfanylidene-1H-pyrimidin-4-one, has been used as anti-thyroid, coronary vasodilator, and in congestive heart failure. It was found to cause agranulocytosis and it is suspected to be teratogenic and carcinogenic. Owing to its high frequency of adverse reactions, especially agranulocytosis, its use was abandoned in favor of other, less toxic drugs, such as propylthiouracil and methimazole. Thiouracil refers both to a specific molecule consisting of a sulfated uracil and a family of molecules based upon the structure. An important member of this family is propylthiouracil, which is a thiourea antithyroid drug that acts by blocking the production of thyroid hormones; it also inhibits the peripheral deiodination of thyroxine to tri-iodothyronine. This profile is prepared to discuss and explain physical and chemical properties, proprietary and nonproprietary names of thiouracil and propylthiouracil. It also includes uses and applications, methods of preparation, thermal and spectral behavior and methods of analysis. In addition, metabolism, excretion and pharmacology of propylthiouracil are also discussed.

Abstract
Background Exfoliative cytology performed on oral brush samples can help dentists to decide, whether a given oral lesion is (pre-) malignant. The use of non-invasive brush biopsies as an auxiliary tool in the diagnosis of oral mucosal lesions has gained renewed interest since improvements in cytological techniques such as the development of adjuvant diagnostic tools and liquid-based cell preparation techniques. Methods The aim of this study was to compare the quality of two different preparation techniques (cell collectors): the conventional transfer procedure to glass slides and the so-called liquid-based cytology preparation method. Cell smears were collected from 10 orally healthy individuals (mean age: 24 years) from the palatine mucosa at two different times (baseline and 4 weeks later). Slides of both techniques were stained by Giemsa (n = 40) and May-Gruenwald Giemsa (n = 40). The statistical analysis was performed with Excel. Results On specimen analysis, the liquid-based cytology showed statistically significant improvement compared to conventional glass sides (p < 0.001). Thin layers, which were performed by liquid-based cytology showed significantly better results in the parameters (p < 0.001): uniform distribution, cellular overlapping, cellular disformation, mucus, microbial colonies and debris. The conventional glass slides approach showed more cell overlapping and contamination with extraneous material than thin layers, which were performed by Orcellex® Brush cell collectors. Conclusions Both techniques are diagnostically reliable. The liquid-based method showed an overall improvement on sample preservation, specimen adequacy, visualization of cell morphology and reproducibility. Liquid-based cytology simplifies cell collection due to easier handling and less transfer errors by dentists.

Abstract
The various advantages of organic polymer monoliths, including relatively simple preparation processes, abundant monomer availability, and a wide application range of pH, have attracted the attention of chromatographers. Organic polymer monoliths prepared by traditional methods only have macropores and mesopores, and micropores of less than 50 nm are not commonly available. These typical monoliths are suitable for the separation of biological macromolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids, but their ability to separate small molecular compounds is poor. In recent years, researchers have successfully modified polymer monoliths to achieve uniform compact pore structures. In particular, microporous materials with pores of 50 nm or less that can provide a large enough surface area are the key to the separation of small molecules. In this review, preparation methods of polymer monoliths for high-performance liquid chromatography, including ultra-high cross-linking technology, post-surface modification, and the addition of nanomaterials, are discussed. Modified monolithic columns have been used successfully to separate small molecules with obvious improvements in column efficiency.
