Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the socio-economic burden imposed on the Chinese healthcare system during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional study was used to investigate how COVID-19 impacted health and medical costs in China. Data were derived from a subdivision of the Centers for Disease control and Prevention of China. METHODS We prospectively collected information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the designated hospitals to determine the cost of public health care and hospitalisation due to COVID-19. We estimated the resource use and direct medical costs associated with public health. RESULTS The average costs, per case, for specimen collection and nucleic acid testing (NAT [specifically, polymerase chain reaction {PCR}]) in low-risk populations were $29.49 and $53.44, respectively; however, the average cost of NAT in high-risk populations was $297.94 per capita. The average costs per 1000 population for epidemiological surveys, disinfectant, health education and centralised isolation were $49.54, $247.01, $90.22 and $543.72, respectively. A single hospitalisation for COVID-19 in China cost a median of $2158.06 ($1961.13-$2325.65) in direct medical costs incurred only during hospitalisation, whereas the total costs associated with hospitalisation of patients with COVID-19 were estimated to have reached nearly $373.20 million in China as of 20, May, 2020. The cost of public health care associated with COVID-19 as of 20, May, 2020 ($6.83 billion) was 18.31 times that of hospitalisation. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the magnitude of resources needed to treat patients with COVID-19 and control the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health measures implemented by the Chinese government have been valuable in reducing the infection rate and may be cost-effective ways to control emerging infectious diseases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to evaluate the association between sleep duration and obesity and estimate the attributable risk of sleep in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study surveys (CHARLS). METHODS A total of 9061 adults aged 45 years above from CHARLS (2011-2015) were included. The main outcome of this study was incident overweight/obesity specific to general and abdominal obesity. Overweight/obesity was defined as BMI ≥ 23.0 (kg/m2) and BMI≥27.5 (kg/m2), respectively. Abdominal obesity was defined as waist circumference ≥90 cm for men and ≥80 cm for women. Self-reported sleep durations were obtained using a structured questionnaire. We assessed hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) as well as the population attributable fraction (PAF) for associations between sleep duration and obesity. RESULTS 986 and 606 participants were identified as overweight and general obesity respectively, 1253 experienced abdominal obesity events. In multivariable-adjusted models, participants with daytime sleep of 0-30 minutes and more than 30 minutes associated with 30% (HR: 0.70, 95% CI: 0.56-0.87) and 35% (HR: 0.65, 95% CI: 0.55-0.78) decreased incident overweight risk respectively compared to those having no daytime sleep, this association also found among females and middle-aged, not males or elderly. Similarly, 0-30 minutes (HR: 0.68, 95% CI: 0.48-0.96) and more than 30 minutes of daytime sleep (HR: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.59-0.91) were associated with a reduced risk of abdominal obesity, similar results also found among females and middle-aged. Compared with 7-9 hours of nocturnal sleep, people who slept 5-7 hours had a reduced risk of overweight (HR: 0.59, 95% CI=0.47-0.74),but not found in subgroups. The hazard role of long nocturnal sleep for abdominal obesity was only found among elderly (HR: 2.33, 95% CI=1.35-4.04) and males (HR: 2.24, 95% CI=1.17-4.29). Compared with moderate total sleepers (7-9hours/day), participants with short total sleep duration exhibited an elevated risk of overweight (HR: 1.13, 95% CI=1.00-1.28), this also found among middle-aged. The PAF for inadequate total sleep duration (<7 hours/day) was 10.77% for overweight individuals. CONCLUSIONS Insufficient sleep duration was associated with an elevated risk of overweight only detected among middle-aged not elderly and other subgroups specific by age. The risks for abdominal obesity were increased for males and middle-aged with long nocturnal sleep. Daytime sleep may significantly reduce the risk of overweight and abdominal obesity in female and middle-aged individuals. The link between sleep duration and obesity requires further study.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical effect and satisfaction of partially edentulous patients restored with posterior implant-supported single crown by digital impression technique and traditional silicon rubber impression, in order to provide clinical reference. Methods: Sixty-four partially edentulous patients who visited the Department of Prosthodontics, Guanghua School of Stomatology, Hospital of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University between March 2018 and January 2021 were enrolled. There were 31 male and 33 female, and the age of the group of patients was (49.3±13.3) years. The 113 implants placed in this group of patients were divided into digital impression group (n=70) and silicone rubber impression group (n=43) according to different impression techniques, and were restored with screw-retained full zirconia single crown, and the patients were followed up for 3-36 months after treatment. The implant survival rate, upper prosthesis, peri-implant soft tissue status, marginal bone loss and patients satisfaction were recorded to evaluate the clinical effects of two impression techniques in posterior implant-supported single crown. Results: In sixty-four patients, digital impression accounted for 62% (40/64), and silicon rubber impression accounted for 38% (24/64), the survival rate of 113 implants was 100% (113/113). The prevalence of interproximal contact loss, food impaction and mechanical complication of the upper full zirconia single crown restorations were 22.7% (41/181), 8.0% (9/113) and 2.7% (3/113) separately. All the mechanical complications were abutment screw loosening. All patients maintained good oral hygiene status, the incidences of peri-implantitis and peri-implant mucositis were 0.9% (1/113) and 4.4% (5/113) respectively. The marginal bone loss was (0.24±0.11) mm. The median of satisfaction visual analogue scale score in patients was 9-10, but no statistically significant differences of all the above results were observed between the two impression techniques (P>0.05). Conclusions: The clinical effect of partially edentulous patients restored with posterior implant-supported single crown using two different impression techniques is good and the satisfaction of patients is high, but the long-term clinical effect remains to be further observed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate the preventive effect of elastic stockings on deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after orthopedic surgery by literature search and meta-analysis. METHODS PubMed, Embase and Cochrane were selected as the search database platforms to search the literature of randomized controlled trials related to elastic stockings and DVT published from 2008 to date. Revman 5.3.5 software was used for statistical analysis of the data to obtain forest and funnel plots. RESULTS In this study, 90 studies were initially screened and 7 were finally included, covering a total of 3,116 patients. Meta-analysis showed that the 7 studies had statistical heterogeneity (I2=32%, P=0.18), so a random effect model was used. The obtained statistic was [odds ratio (OR) =0.59, 95% confidence interval (CI): (0.34, 1.03)], the statistical effect size was Z=1.84, P=0.07, and the difference was not statistically significant, so a stepwise sensitivity analysis was performed by the exclusion method. One study was excluded, and the remaining 6 showed homogeneity (I2=0%, P=0.46). They were analyzed by subgroup according to the type of operation: ankle surgery or hip and knee arthroplasty. The internal literatures of each subgroup were homogeneous: ankle surgery subgroup (I2=0%, P=0.43), hip and knee arthroplasty subgroup (I2=0%, P=0.88). Therefore, fixed effect mode analysis was used, and the effect size of elastic stockings after ankle surgery was Z=3.65, P=0.0003, while the effect size of elastic stockings in the hip and knee arthroplasty subgroup was Z=1.23, P=0.22. DISCUSSION Elastic stockings had an obvious preventive effect on DVT in patients undergoing ankle surgery, but not in patients undergoing lumbar, knee or spinal surgery. It is necessary to combine anticoagulant drugs and other physical therapies to prevent DVT.

Abstract
Diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) is a crucial enzyme in the triacylglycerol (TAG) biosynthesis pathway. The oleaginous fungus Mortierella alpina can accumulate large amounts of arachidonic acid (ARA, C20:4) in the form of TAG. Therefore, it is important to study the functional characteristics of its DGAT. Two putative genes MaDGAT1A/1B encoding DGAT1 were identified in M. alpina ATCC 32222 genome by sequence alignment. Sequence alignment with identified DGAT1 homologs showed that MaDGAT1A/1B contain seven conserved motifs that are characteristic of the DGAT1 subfamily. Conserved domain analysis showed that both MaDGAT1A and MaDGAT1B belong to the Membrane-bound O-acyltransferases superfamily. The transforming with MaDGAT1A/1B genes could increase the accumulation of TAG in Saccharomyces cerevisiae to 4·47 and 7·48% of dry cell weight, which was 7·3-fold and 12·3-fold of the control group, respectively, but has no effect on the proportion of fatty acids in TAG. This study showed that MaDGAT1A/1B could effectively promote the accumulation of TAG and therefore may be used in metabolic engineering aimed to increase TAG production of oleaginous fungi.

Abstract
The uptake of Co(II) on graphene oxide (GO) by an adsorption process as a function of pH and ionic strength in the absence and presence of humic acid (HA) or fulvic acid (FA) was studied using batch technique. The results indicated that the uptake is strongly dependent on pH but independent of ionic strength. A stimulative effect of HA/FA on Co(II) uptake was found at pH < 7.0, whereas an inhibitory effect was observed at pH > 7.0. Kinetic studies suggest that Co(II) uptake on GO could be described more favorably by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The uptake isotherms can be described better by the Langmuir, Freundlich, and D-R models than by the linear model. The thermodynamic data calculated from the temperature-dependent uptake isotherms suggests that the uptake of Co(II) on GO is spontaneous and endothermic. Results of this work are of great importance for the environmental application of GO in the treatment of Co(II) from wastewater and indicated that GO is promising for the natural attenuation of Co(II) and related metal ions from aqueous solution.

Abstract
PURPOSE Growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenomas (GH-PAs) are common subtypes of functional PAs. Invasive GH-PAs play a key role in restricting poor outcomes. The transcriptional changes in GH-PAs were evaluated. METHODS In this study, the transcriptome analysis of six different GH-PA samples was performed. The functional roles, co-regulatory network, and chromosome location of differentially expressed (DE) genes in invasive GH-PAs were explored. RESULTS Bioinformatic analysis revealed 101 DE mRNAs and 70 DE long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) between invasive and non-invasive GH-PAs. Functional enrichment analysis showed that epithelial cell differentiation and development pathways were suppressed in invasive GH-PAs, whereas the pathways of olfactory transduction, retinol metabolism, drug metabolism-cytochrome P450, and metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450 had an active trend. In the protein-protein interaction network, 11 main communities were characterized by cell- adhesion, -motility, and -cycle; transport process; phosphorus and hormone metabolic processes. The SGK1 gene was suggested to play a role in the invasiveness of GH-PAs. Furthermore, the up-regulated genes OR51B6, OR52E4, OR52E8, OR52E6, OR52N2, MAGEA6, MAGEC1, ST8SIA6-AS1, and the down-regulated genes GAD1-AS1 and SPINT1-AS1 were identified in the competing endogenous RNA network. The RT-qPCR results further supported the aberrant expression of those genes. Finally, the enrichment of DE genes in chromosome 11p15 and 12p13 regions were detected. CONCLUSION Our findings provide a new perspective for studies evaluating the underlying mechanism of invasive GH-PAs.

Abstract
Currently, Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)-a respiratory contagion spreading through expiratory droplets-has evolved into a global pandemic, severely impacting the public health. Importantly, the emerging of immune evasion SARS-CoV-2 variants and the limited effect of current antivirals against SARS-CoV-2 in clinical trials suggested that alternative strategies in addition to the conventional vaccines and antivirals are required to successfully control the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, we propose to use liquid-repellent coatings to prevent the spread of the disease in the absence of effective vaccines, antimicrobial agents, or therapeutics, wherein the deposition and penetration of pathogen droplets are prohibited. We use SARS-CoV-2 as a model pathogen and find that SARS-CoV-2 remnants are reduced by seven orders of magnitude on coated surfaces, yielding a repelling efficacy far outperforming the inactivation rate of disinfectants. The SARS-CoV-2 remnant scales exponentially with the liquid/solid adhesion, uncovering the mechanism and effective means for minimizing pathogen attachment. The antipathogen coating that both repels and inactivates pathogens is demonstrated by incorporating the super-liquid-repellent coating with antipathogen additives. Together with its versatility over a wide range of substrates and pathogens, the novel antipathogen coating is of considerable value for infection control in everyday life as well as during pandemics.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify novel genes associated with self-renewal and pluripotency of mouse embryonic stem cells(mESCs)by integrating multiomics data based on machine learning methods. METHODS We integrated multiomics information of mESCs involving transcriptome, histone modifications, chromatin accessibility, transcription factor binding and architectural protein binding, and compared the signal differences between known stem cell self-renewal and pluripotency genes and other genes.By integrating these multiomics data, we established prediction models based on several machine learning classifiers including random forests and performed 5-fold cross validations. The model was trained using the training dataset containing two thirds of the input samples, and the remaining one third of the input samples were used as the test dataset to assess the performance of the model in independent tests. Finally, the results predicted by the model were validated through gene function annotation and cell function experiments including cell viability assay, colony formation assay and cell cycle analysis. RESULTS Compared with the random genes, the genes known to be associated with self-renewal and pluripotency of mESCs in the multiomics data showed significantly different features.Random forest outperformed the other machine learning algorithms tested on these multiomics data, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.883±0.018 for cross validation and an AUC of 0.880±0.028 for independent test.Based on this model, we identified 893 potential regulatory genes associated wwith self-renewal and pluripotency of mESCs, which were similar to the known genes in functional annotation.Known-down of the predicted novel regulator gene Cct6a resulted in significant decreases in the cell viability of mESCs (P < 0.0001) and the number of cell clones (P < 0.01), significantly increased the number of cells in G1 phase (P < 0.01) and decreasedthe number of S phase cells (P < 0.05).Knockdown of Cct6a also led to failure of positive alkaline phosphatase staining of the mESCs. CONCLUSION Machine learning model based on multiomics data can be used to predict potential self-renewal and pluripotency regulators with high performance.By using this model, we predicted potential self-renewal and pluripotency regulatory genes including Cct6a and applied experimental validation. This model provides new insights into the regulatory mechanism of mESCs and contribute to stem cell research.

Abstract
Intramuscular fat (IMF) content is a critical indicator of pork quality that affects directly the purchasing desire of consumers. However, to measure IMF content is both laborious and costly, preventing our understanding of its genetic determinants and improvement. In the present study, we constructed an accurate and fast image acquisition and analysis system, to extract and calculate the digital IMF content, the proportion of fat areas in the image (PFAI) of the longissimus muscle of 1709 animals from multiple pig populations. PFAI was highly significantly correlated with marbling scores (MS; 0.95, r2 = 0.90), and also with IMF contents chemically defined for 80 samples (0.79, r2 = 0.63; more accurate than direct analysis between IMF contents and MS). The processing time for one image is only 2.31 s. Genome-wide association analysis on PFAI for all 1709 animals identified 14 suggestive significant SNPs and 1 genome-wide significant SNP. On MS, we identified nine suggestive significant SNPs, and seven of them were also identified in PFAI. Furthermore, the significance (-log P) values of the seven common SNPs are higher in PFAI than in MS. Novel candidate genes of biological importance for IMF content were also discovered. Our imaging systems developed for prediction of digital IMF content is closer to IMF measured by Soxhlet extraction and slightly more accurate than MS. It can achieve fast and high-throughput IMF phenotype, which can be used in improvement of pork quality.

Abstract
The etiology of lumbocrural pain is closely related to intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) serve crucial roles in IDD progression. This study investigated the effect of lncRNA H19 on autophagy and apoptosis of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) in IDD. The rat model of IDD was established. Normal NPCs and degenerative NPCs (DNPCs) were cultured in vitro. H19 expression in IDD rat was detected. DNPCs were treated with si-H19 to evaluate autophagy and apoptosis of DNPCs. The binding relationships between H19 and miR-139-3p, and miR-139-3p and CXCR4 were verified. DNPCs were co-transfected si-H19 and miR-139-3p inhibitor. The phosphorylation of NF-κB pathway-related p65 in DNPCs was detected. LncRNA H19 was upregulated in IDD rats. Downregulation of H19 inhibited autophagy and apoptosis of DNPCs. LncRNA H19 sponged miR-139-3p to inhibit CXCR4 expression. si-H19 and miR-139-3p inhibitor co-treatment induced autophagy and apoptosis, and enhanced CXCR4 expression. si-H19 decreased p-p65 phosphorylation, while si-H19 and miR-139-3p inhibitor co-treatment partially elevated p-p65 phosphorylation. In conclusion, lncRNA H19 facilitated the autophagy and apoptosis of DNPCs by the miR-139-3p/CXCR4/NF-κB axis, thereby aggravating IDD. This study may offer new insights for the management of IDD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlation of baseline serum 25(OH) D level with the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and blood glucose control in diabetic patients among the middle-aged and elderly individuals in Chengguan District of Lanzhou, Gansu Province. OBJECTIVE Residents aged 40 to 75 years in Lanzhou were selected from the "REACTION" study conducted in 2011 and had been followed up since 2014. A total of 5044 subjects with complete data from the two surveys were analyzed. Participants were divided into Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 subgroups based on quartiles of serum 25(OH)D level for comparison of the incidence of T2DM and blood glucose control. OBJECTIVE Baseline 25(OH)D level was not found to correlate with FPG, 2h-PG or HbA1c levels among the residents (P>0.05). The participants were followed up for a mean of 3.4±0.6 years, and compared with those in Q1 group, the participants in Q2, Q3 and Q4 groups did not show significantly lowered risk of prediabetes or diabetes regardless of glucose tolerance status. Among the patients with T2DM, the compliance rate of glycemic control after the follow-up was significantly higher than that before the follow-up (63.4% vs 60.6%), and the levels of HbA1c, FPG, and 2h-PG decreased obviously after the follow-up. But compared with Q1 group, Q2, Q3 and Q4 groups showed no significant changes in glycemic control compliance rate or levels of HbA1c, FPG and 2h-PG after the follow-up (P>0.05). OBJECTIVE There is no evidence that baseline 25(OH)D levels are associated with the risk of diabetes and blood glucose control in patients with T2DM.

Background
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading causes of death in China. Since population CVD incidence and risk factor levels vary considerably across regions in China, geo-specific investment in the prevention of CVD could be advantageous. Risk prediction models are an integral part of CVD prevention guidelines and can be used to help guide intervention. However, there is no CVD model generalizable to the various incidence rates, risk-factor levels and composition of CVD in different regions of China.
Purpose
To construct a CVD risk estimation system, which is calibrated to CVD risk in different regions in China, and can be regularly updated in the future using routinely available aggregate level CVD incidence and risk factor data, in response to changing trends with time and divergent CVD rates.
Methods
The risk prediction model used was the WHO CVD score, initially calibrated to predict CVD mortality in the whole of mainland China. Further province-specific recalibration was then completed to give models tailored to the 31 provinces. The recalibration approach used aggregate level province, sex- and age group-specific levels of risk factors and CVD mortality. Risk factor values were estimated using 145 268 participants aged 40-80 years old from the China Chronic Disease and Risk Factors Surveillance, a nationally and provincially representative cross-sectional survey in 2015. Province-specific CVD mortality rates in 2017 were estimated based on published scientific reports, unpublished registry data, and health system administrative data.
Results
Compared with the province-specific models, the China-specific WHO score overestimated mortality risk in some provinces while underestimating risk in others. For example, while the predicted population risk of 10-year CVD mortality was 3.5% in male in both Shanghai and Hebei using the China-specific score (with province-specific observed risk factor values), the province-specific scores gave predicted population risks of 1.1% for Shanghai and 5.5% for Hebei. Accordingly, using the province-specific scores for an individual with the same combination of risk factors, the 10-year risk of CVD mortality differed substantially across provinces. For example, the estimated 10-year risk for a 60 year old, male smoker without diabetes and systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg and total cholesterol 5 mmol/L ranged from 2.4% in Shanghai to 13.2% in Tibet. Similarly, the estimated 10-year risk for a female with the same risk factor profile ranged from 1.5% in Shanghai to 11.5% in Tibet.
Conclusion
We have developed a CVD risk estimation system, which is calibrated to CVD risk in different provinces of China, and can be regularly recalibrated in the future using routinely available information. Application of this approach should help accurately estimate CVD risk in individuals from China, and assist policy makers in making more appropriate decisions about allocation of preventative resources.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Tumor metastasis remains the main cause for the cancer-associated death of human non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Many studies have verified that microRNAs (miRNAs) exert crucial functions in the development of NSCLC. Nevertheless, the functions of miR-139-3p in NSCLC remain unexplored. PATIENTS AND METHODS The quantitative Real Time-PCR (qRT-PCR) assay was applied to assess the level of miR-139-3p and ELAV like RNA binding protein 1 (ELAVL1) in NSCLC tissues and cell lines. The growth of NSCLC cell was analyzed using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium (MTS) assay and colony formation assay. The migration ability and invasiveness of NSCLC cells were analyzed using wound healing and transwell invasion analysis. The expression of ELAVL1 was determined by immunoblotting assay. The growth of NSCLC cell in vivo was assessed using xenograft model. RESULTS We uncovered that miR-139-3p was down expressed in NSCLC. MiR-139-3p repressed NSCLC cell growth, migration as well as invasion in vitro, and suppressed the progression of NSCLC cell in vivo. Mechanistically, ELAVL1 was proved as a downstream target of miR-139-3p. The level of ELAVL1 was upregulated in NSCLC and inversely associated with miR-139-3p level. Immunoblotting assay suggested that ELAVL1 was negatively modulated by miR-139-3p in NSCLC cell. In vivo, miR-139-3p repressed NSCLC cell growth and metastasis. Several recuse assays revealed that ELAVL1 mediated the inhibitory actions of miR-139-3p on the growth and metastatic-related traits of NSCLC cell. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate that miR-139-3p acts as a suppressor in modulating the aggressiveness of NSCLC via regulating ELAVL1.

Abstract
The discrepancy between observations from γ-ray astronomy of the ^{60}Fe/^{26}Al γ-ray flux ratio and recent calculations is an unresolved puzzle in nuclear astrophysics. The stellar β-decay rate of ^{59}Fe is one of the major nuclear uncertainties impeding us from a precise prediction. The important Gamow-Teller strengths from the low-lying states in ^{59}Fe to the ^{59}Co ground state are measured for the first time using the exclusive measurement of the ^{59}Co(t,^{3}He+γ)^{59}Fe charge-exchange reaction. The new stellar decay rate of ^{59}Fe is a factor of 3.5±1.1 larger than the currently adopted rate at T=1.2 GK. Stellar evolution calculations show that the ^{60}Fe production yield of an 18 solar mass star is decreased significantly by 40% when using the new rate. Our result eliminates one of the major nuclear uncertainties in the predicted yield of ^{60}Fe and alleviates the existing discrepancy of the ^{60}Fe/^{26}Al ratio.

Abstract
Cost-effectiveness analysis of screening in epidemiology is essential for public health decision-making. This paper describes the general principles, basic steps involved in implementation, analytic methods and other related issues of Markov model. Based on a practical research case of evaluating the cost-effectiveness of primary open-angle glaucoma screening in a Chinese population, key points in applications of Markov model for cost-effectiveness analysis of screening were discussed in detail, including model development, parameters definition, available software, base case analysis, sensitivity analysis and the interpretation of the results. For better supporting evidence-informed decision making in public health, future studies should be aware of the accuracy of parameters in Markov models and the transparency of the models and results, as well as complying with the relevant reporting standards.

Abstract
Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins (Sousa chinensis) inhabit shallow coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region including southeast China, with at least 6 putative populations identified to date in Chinese waters. However, the connectivity among these populations has not yet been fully investigated. In the present study, we compared and cross-matched photographic catalogs of individual dolphins collected to date in the Pearl River Delta region, Leizhou Bay, Sanniang Bay, and waters southwest of Hainan Island, a total of 3158 individuals, and found no re-sighting of individual dolphins among the 4 study areas. Furthermore, there was a notable difference in the pigmentation pattern displayed by individuals from these 4 regions. We suggest that this may be a phenotypical expression of fine-scale regional differentiation among humpback dolphin groups, possibly distinct populations. Given the considerable conservation management implications it may carry (e.g. definition of management units), further research is much needed.

Abstract
Emerging evidence suggests that dysregulated circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a pivotal role in osteoarthritis (OA). Circ_0045714 is a functional circRNAs, and has been revealed to involve in the process of OA. However, the molecular mechanisms by which circ_0045714 regulates OA progression are not thoroughly elucidated. Circ_0045714 expression was decreased in OA and TNF-α-induced chondrocytes, ectopic overexpression of circ_0045714 abolished TNF-α-induced cell apoptosis, inflammation, extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation promotion and proliferation inhibition. In a mechanical study, circ_0045714 targeted miR-218-5p, and miR-218-5p overexpression reversed the effects of circ_0045714 on TNF-α-induced chondrocytes. Besides that, HRAS was a target of miR-218-5p, and HRAS knockdown attenuated the protective effects of miR-218-5p inhibition on TNF-α-induced chondrocyte dysfunction. Additionally, circ_0045714 could regulate HRAS expression via miR-218-5p in chondrocytes. Up-regulation of circ_0045714 suppressed TNF-α-induced chondrocyte growth inhibition, inflammation, and ECM degradation via miR-218-5p/HRAS axis, suggesting a novel insight into the pathogenesis of OA and the potential protective role of circ_0045714 in the occurrence and development of OA.

Abstract
A pioneering boat-based survey was conducted in 2019, to gather baseline information regarding the presence, composition, relative abundance, and spatial distribution of deep-diving and off-shore cetaceans in the northern South China Sea (SCS). A total of 27 sightings comprising at least 8 cetacean species were recorded during the 13-day survey, including 5 deep-diving species (i.e. Risso's dolphin [Grampus griseus], short-finned pilot whale [Globicephala macrorhynchus], sperm whale [Physeter macrocephalus], Cuvier's beaked whale [Ziphius cavirostris], and an unidentified beaked whale [either the ginkgo-toothed beaked whale, Mesoplodon ginkgodens, or Deraniyagala's beaked whale, Mesoplodon hotaula]), as well as 3 off-shore dolphins (i.e. pantropical spotted dolphin [Stenella attenuate], striped dolphin [Stenella coeruleoalba], and Fraser's dolphin [Lagenodelphis hosei]). With the exception of pantropical spotted dolphins, all other species were sighted and recorded at sea in the northern SCS for the first time. The pantropical spotted dolphin was the most frequently sighted species, comprising 30% of the total sightings. Deep-diving cetaceans were mainly sighted in the northern Xisha Archipelago, whereas off-shore dolphins were distributed across the survey area. The pantropical spotted dolphin was observed in aggregations of more than 100 individuals and nearly all encountered species included calves; these findings suggested that the survey area functions as an important feeding and calving ground for various cetacean species. This pioneering survey provides fundamental information regarding cetacean fauna in the northern SCS and highlights the need to strengthen research and conservation efforts concerning these species.

Abstract
Beaked whales represent around 25% of known extant cetacean species, yet they are the least known of all marine mammals. Identification of many Mesoplodon species has relied on examination of a few stranded individuals. Particularly, the ginkgo-toothed beaked whale (Mesoplodon ginkgodens) and Deraniyagala's beaked whale (Mesoplodon hotaula) are among the least-known of beaked whale species, without confirmed sightings of living individuals to date. We present a sighting of 3 free-ranging individuals of M. ginkgodens/hotaula whale from a dedicated marine mammal vessel survey carried out in the South China Sea in April and May 2019. Photographic data (301 photographs) from the sighting were compared to photos of fresh stranded ginkgo-toothed beaked whale and Deraniyagala's beaked whale from both historical and unpublished records. We found that free-ranging M. ginkgodens and M. hotaula individuals can be easily distinguished from other Mesoplodon species due to differences in melon and gape shapes and coloration patterns. However, accurate at-sea differentiation of M. ginkgodens and M. hotaula may not be possible due to high similarity in both coloration and scarring patterns. In addition to our photo-identification data, we collected what we believe to be the first preliminary descriptions of surfacing behavior and diving patterns of one of these species. Finally, the presence of scars possibly caused by fishing gear or marine litter raises concerns about anthropogenic impacts and conservation of these poorly known species.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the characteristics of HIV-related risk behaviors and needs for prevention services among males who sell sex for money or anything of value (commonly known as money boys or MB), and to provide evidence for the development of targeted interventions. Methods: Using non-probability purposive sampling method and one-on-one interviews. Results: A total of 28 MBs were interviewed, with age range between 20 and 67, and education primarily at junior high school level. Among them 6 were married. Their household registration for residency cut across 15 provinces, and their sexual orientation is diverse. They migrate primarily among tier one cities and provincial capitals. Most enter the trade for economic reasons, relying on clubs and personal networks to find clients, and on word of mouth to obtain knowledge and skills. In addition to their primary clientele of the male homosexual community, 5 out of 28 serve male heterosexuals and 6 out of 28 also serve females. They have some awareness of self protection from diseases, primarily from word of mouth. Nevertheless, over half of them cannot maintain consistent condom use, and 12 out of 28 have a history of illegal drug use. Three of them reported being tested positive for HIV, and all continue to engage in sex work. They prefer their communication messages to be simple and straight-forward. Privacy comes first when they are accessing testing and treatment services. Conclusion: The bridge role of the MB community in transmitting HIV to the general population cannot be ignored, and interventions targeting the MB population need to be strengthened.

Abstract
AIMS To isolate and identify cellulolytic bacteria from yak rumen and further evaluate the effects of the isolates on the silage quality, structural carbohydrates degradation and cellulose convertibility of Napier grass silage. METHODS AND RESULTS Two out of 218 strains were selected based on their most extensive transparent zone and the highest filter paper disintegration rate. The two isolates (JFL12 and JF85) could grow normally at 15-55°C, pH 3·0-7·0 and NaCl (3·0, 6·5%), and were identified as Enterococcus casseliflavus and Enterococcus faecalis by 16S rDNA sequence analysis, respectively. Napier grass was ensiled with no additive control (C), Lactobacillus plantarum (Lp), JFL12, JF85, JFL12 + Lp and JF85 + Lp for 3, 5, 7, 14, 30 and 60 days. All inoculated silages had higher lactic acid content, lower pH, ammonia nitrogen (NH3 -N) and lignocellulose contents than the control silage. Silages treated with JFL12 + Lp and JF85 + Lp had the lowest pH and NH3 -N contents, the highest lactic acid content and lignocellulose degradation among all treatments. The isolates with or without Lp significantly (P < 0·01) increased water soluble carbohydrates (WSC), glucose, fructose and sucrose contents as compared with the control silage. Silages treated with JFL12 + Lp and JF85 + Lp had higher glucose yield and cellulose convertibility than the other silages. CONCLUSIONS Therefore, the application of isolates (JFL12 and JF85) with Lp had synergistic effects on accelerating the degradation of structural carbohydrates and improving the silage quality. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY Napier grass presents difficulty to ensiling due to its low WSC and high structural carbohydrates contents. The screened cellulolytic bacteria could be a candidate strain in improving fermentation quality and structural carbohydrates degradability of ensiled forages.

Abstract
Abstract Objective To explore the association of cardiac disease associated genetic variants and the high incidence of Yunnan sudden unexplained death (YNSUD) in Yi nationality. Methods The genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples collected from 205 Yi villagers from YNSUD aggregative villages (inpatient group) and 197 healthy Yi villagers from neighboring villages (control group). Fifty-two single nucleotide variants (SNVs) of 25 cardiac disease associated genes were genotyped using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). The SPSS 17.0 was used to analyze data. The pathogenicities of variants with differences between the two groups that have statistical significance were predicted by protein function prediction software PolyPhen-2 and SIFT. All villagers from inpatient group were given electrocardiogram (ECG) examination using a 12-lead electrocardiograph. Results The allele frequency and the genotype frequency of missense mutation DSG2 (rs2278792, c.2318G>A, p.R773K) of pathogenic genes of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) in inpatient group was higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Abnormal ECG changes were detected in 71 individuals (34.6%) in the inpatient group, among which 54 individuals carried R773K mutation, including clockwise (counterclockwise) rotation, left (right) axis deviation, ST segment and T wave alteration and heart-blocking. Conclusion Definite pathogenic mutations have not been found in the 52 cardiac disease genes associated SNVs detected in Yi nationality in regions with high incidence of YNSUD. The cause of high incidence of YNSUD in Yi nationality needs further study.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Type 2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease. In 2013, the International Diabetes Federation showed that the total number of diabetic patients aged 20 to 79 years in China was 89 million, and it is expected to increase to 143 million by 2035. The incidence of T2DM and its complications in patients with blood glucose is gradually increasing, and there are low awareness rate, low diagnosis rate and high disability rate, which has become a global public health problem. Microcirculation Dysfunction in Type 2 diabetic mellitus (MDT2DM) plays an important role in the development of diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy and diabetic foot disease. It is 1 of the common etiological mechanisms of diabetic chronic complications. Patients with MDT2DM, serious complications, increase the quality of life of patients with social impact. Diabetic lower extremity microcirculation disease (dlemd) is the main cause of the occurrence, development and difficult healing of diabetic foot. Microvascular disease is microcirculation dysfunction. It has been proved that Shenqi compound prescription can treat T2DM macrovascular disease and microvascular dysfunction. However, due to the lack of evidence and no specific methods or suggestions, it is necessary to conduct a systematic evaluation of Shenqi compound prescription to provide effective evidence for further research. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Thyroid nodules are scattered lesions caused by abnormal local growth of thyroid cells. In recent years, their prevalence rate has been rising gradually, and the probability of cancerations has also been increasing gradually. Therefore, we must pay more attention to them and carry out early intervention. However, at present, most of the intervention measures for patients with thyroid nodules are mainly clinical observation and follow-up, and no clear and effective drug intervention therapy has been proposed. The curative effect of acupuncture on thyroid nodules has been proved clinically. However, as there is no clear mechanism of action, no specific operation methods or Suggestions, it is necessary to make a systematic evaluation of acupuncture therapy, so as to lay a foundation for further research in the future. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The following databases will be searched from their inception to June 2020: Electronic database includes PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Nature, Science online, Chinese Biomedical Database WanFang, VIP medicine information, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). Primary outcomes: Color ultrasound of thyroid and cervical lymph nodes, FT3, FT4, TSH, TGAB, TPOAB, insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR). Data will be extracted by 2 researchers independently, risk of bias of the meta-analysis will be evaluated based on the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. All data analysis will be conducted by data statistics software Review Manager V.5.3. and Stata V.12.0. RESULTS The results of this study will systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapy for patients with thyroid nodule. CONCLUSION Through the systematic review of this study, the evidence of the treatment of thyroid nodule by acupuncture has been summarized so far, so as to provide guidance for further promoting the application of acupuncture therapy in patients with thyroid nodule. Abstract
The silkworm is an economically important insect producing plentiful silk fibre in the silk gland. In this study, we reported a cross-talk between the fat body, silk gland and midgut through a glycine-serine biosynthetic pathway in the silkworm. Amino acid sequence and functional domains of glycine transporter gene BmGT1-L were mapped. Our results indicated that BmGT1-L was specifically expressed in the midgut microvilli and persistently expressed during the feeding stages. RNA interference of BmGT1-L activated glycine biosynthesis, and BmGT1-L overexpression facilitated serine biosynthesis in the BmN4-SID1 cell. In addition, silkworms after FibH gene knock-out or silk gland extirpation showed markedly decreased BmGT1-L transcripts in the midgut and disturbed glycine-serine biosynthesis as silk yield decreased. Finally, BmGT1-L ectopic expression in the posterior silk gland promoted glycine biosynthesis, and enhanced silk yield via increasing fibroin synthesis. These results suggested that cross-talk between tissues can be used for enhancing silk yield in the silkworm.

Abstract
Background Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease condition associated with aging and a frequent cause of primary care consultations. Few longitudinal studies have been conducted to investigate the incidence of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) and to identify its risk factors among the Chinese population. Methods The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) is a nationwide longitudinal survey of persons aged ≥45 years. Symptomatic knee OA was diagnosed when both self-reported knee pain and self-reported physician-diagnosis arthritis existed. Using the national survey data collected from the CHARLS, we estimated the incidence of symptomatic knee OA, taking into account the complex survey design and response rate. We applied weighted logistic regression analysis to identify its risk factors. Results In the 4-year follow-up, the cumulative incidence of symptomatic knee OA among middle-aged and older Chinese adults was 8.5%; the incidence was higher among females (11.2%) than males (5.6%). Female (odds ratio (OR) 1.98 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.65–2.37]), rural area (OR 1.32 [95% CI 1.08–1.60]), and West region (OR 2.33 [95% CI 1.89–2.87]) were associated with a higher risk of incident symptomatic knee OA. Physical activities (OR 0.47 [95% CI 0.29–0.76]) and high education level (OR 0.60 [95% CI 0.41–0.88]) was associated with a lower risk of incident symptomatic knee OA, while histories of heart disease (OR 1.40 [95% CI 1.07–1.82]), kidney disease (OR 1.80 [95% CI 1.35–2.39]), and digestive disease (OR 1.54 [95% CI 1.30–1.82]) were associated with a higher risk of incident symptomatic knee OA. Conclusion The cumulative incidence of symptomatic knee OA over 4 years was relatively high, and varied by province and region. Lack of physical activities was confirmed to be risk factors of incident symptomatic knee OA. The presence of heart disease, kidney disease, and digestive disease may be associated with a higher risk of incident symptomatic knee OA, further research need to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and treatment of severe community-acquired pneumonia(SCAP) caused by Legionella pneumophila with acute respiratory failure and to analyze the risk factors for mortality. Methods: From October 2011 to October 2019, 34 patients were diagnosed with SCAP caused by Legionella pneumophila with acute respiratory failure. There were 25 males and 9 females, aged from 17 to 82 years, with a median age of 61 (48, 69) years. According to the prognosis, the patients were divided into a survival group and a death group for comparative analysis. The survival group included 24 patients, 17 males and 7 females, with a median age of 65 (55, 70) years. There were 10 cases in the death group, 8 males and 2 females, with a median age of 53 (50, 58) years. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used for risk factors of ICU mortality. Results: The median time of admission to ICU was 7 (5, 11) days, the median time of stay in RICU was 12 (7, 22) days, and the PaO(2)/FiO(2) was 134 (91, 216) mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa). Ten patients died during ICU hospitalization, with a mortality of 29%. Sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) of death group was 9 (7, 12), which was significantly higher than that of the survival group [4 (3, 8)], P=0.018. The time from onset of pneumonia symptoms to initiation of targeted treatment of the death group was 10 (7, 14) d, which was significantly longer than that of the survival group of [4 (3, 7) d], P=0.019. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that SOFA score (OR=1.461, 95%CI 1.041-2.051, P=0.028) and the time from onset of pneumonia symptoms to initiation of targeted treatment (OR=1.293, 95%CI 1.029-1.625, P=0.027) were independent risk factors for hospital mortality. Conclusions: The ICU mortality of severe legionella pneumonia was high. Critical organ dysfunctions and delayed initial targeted treatment were related with the increase of ICU mortality.

Abstract
AIM The present study examined the associations between night-time sleep duration, midday napping duration and bedtime, and fasting glucose levels, and whether or not such associations are dependent on gender and age. METHODS This study was a cross-sectional analysis of 172,901 adults aged≥40 years living in mainland China. Sleep duration was obtained by self-reports of bedtime at night, waking-up time the next morning and average napping duration at midday. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG)≥7.0mmol/L was defined as hyperglycaemia. Independent associations between night-time sleep duration, midday naptime duration and bedtime with hyperglycaemia were evaluated using regression models. RESULTS Compared with night-time sleep durations of 6-7.9h, both short (<6h) and long (≥8h) night-time sleep durations were significantly associated with an increased risk of hyperglycaemia in women [odds ratio (OR): 1.12, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01-1.29 and OR: 1.14, 95% CI: 1.08-1.21, respectively], and revealed a U-shaped distribution of risk in women and no significant association in men. Long midday nap durations (≥1h) were significantly but weakly associated with hyperglycaemia (OR: 1.04, 95% CI: 1.01-1.09) compared with no napping without interactions from gender or age, whereas the association between bedtime and fasting glucose levels did vary according to gender and age. CONCLUSION Night-time sleep duration, midday napping duration and bedtime were all independently associated with the risk of hyperglycaemia, and some of the associations between these sleep characteristics and hyperglycaemia were gender- and age-dependent.
