Abstract
Background: Treatment of biliary infection in liver transplant (LT) recipients is a challenge, especially because of ineffectiveness of the antibiotic agents otherwise recommended for non-transplant populations. We aimed to understand the factors underlying the choice of antibiotic therapy. Patients and Methods: A total of 373 bile cultures from LT recipients with biliary complications (n = 127; LT group) and from a non-transplant population that underwent cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis (n = 246; non-transplant group) between January 2009 and December 2018, were investigated. Results: Polymicrobial cultures (13.4% vs. 1.6%; p < 0.001), Enterococcus faecium (26.0% vs. 8.5%; p < 0.001), and Pseudomonas (13.4% vs. 4.1%; p = 0.001) in the LT group, and non-faecium enterococci (3.9% vs. 18.3%; p < 0.001) and Enterobacteriales (40.2% vs. 54.9%; p = 0.007), especially Escherichia (11.0% vs. 29.7%; p < 0.001), in the non-transplant group, showed higher abundance. Most of the antibiotic agents recommended as initial antibiotic therapy for the non-transplant population as per previous guidelines were not effective in LT recipients. The incidences of Enterococcus faecium (14.9% vs. 32.5%; p = 0.029) in the LT recipients with model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score >12 and non-faecium enterococci (8.5% vs. 1.3%; p = 0.042) in those with MELD score ≤12 were higher than those in the other group. The incidence of Enterobacteriales increased over time after LT (p = 0.048) and was similar to that in the non-transplant group after one year of LT. Bile micro-organisms in LT recipients, resistant to most antibiotic agents, especially soon after LT changed over time and became similar to those in the non-transplant group after one year of LT. Conclusions: Antibiotic therapy for biliary infection in LT recipients should be different from that in non-transplant populations, considering clinical factors such as the time interval after LT and MELD score.

Abstract
In this work, a polymeric nickel complex-modified indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode was prepared by a one-step cold-plasma process of acrylic-Ni complex precursors. Also, the work provides the electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol by a polymeric Ni complex-modified electrode prepared by a simple one-step cold-plasma process. The acrylic-Ni complex precursors were synthesized by complexation of nickel (II) chloride, and acrylic acid in a small amount of water; subsequently we added N,N′-methylene-bis-acrylamide as a crosslinking agent to the complex solution. We characterized the prepared polymeric Ni complex-modified (Ni-modified) catalytic electrode by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and electrochemical methods. Electrochemical characterization showed stable redox behavior of Ni(III)/Ni(II) couples. Cyclic voltammetric experiments have shown that electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol can occur on Ni-modified catalytic electrodes, while not observed on bare ITO. As a result, this work provides the simple and easy preparation of electrocatalysts by one-step plasma process for methanol fuel cell.

Abstract
Objectives Early in vitro studies have suggested that hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a potentially useful drug against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections. This study was conducted to determine whether HCQ had a preventive effect on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in rheumatic disease patients who were taking HCQ. Methods We conducted a population-based retrospective cohort study using the records of the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment (HIRA) claim records. The clinical data of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who were tested for SARS-CoV-2 were investigated. We compared the attack rate of COVID-19 between those who underwent HCQ therapy within 14 days before the test for SARS-CoV-2 (HCQ users) and HCQ non-users. Data were analysed using logistic regression models, χ2, and Student's t-tests. Results As of 15th May 2020, 2066 patients with RA or SLE were tested for COVID-19. Among them, 31.4% (649/2066) were treated with HCQ. Most HCQ users (93.7%, 608/649) were taking 200–400 mg/day recommended for the treatment of rheumatic diseases. The attack rate of COVID-19 in the HCQ users (2.3%, 15/649) did not differ from that in the HCQ non-users (2.2%, 31/1417) (p 0.86). Conclusions HCQ prophylactic use at a usual dose did not prevent COVID-19 in patients with rheumatic disease.

Abstract
The severity of COVID-19 ranges from mild to critical diseases. However, limited data have been published on the detailed kinetics of viral load and host immune response throughout the disease course depending on disease severity. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed viral load, antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2, and cytokines/chemokines during the disease course, and identified the factors related to severity. Nasopharyngeal (NP) and plasma specimens were obtained from 31 patients with COVID-19 during hospitalization. Viral RNA in NP specimens was quantified by reverse transcription-PCR. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and cytokines/chemokines in plasma specimens were analyzed by ELISA and cytometric bead array. The viral load in patients with COVID-19 peaked at the early stage of the disease and continuously decreased. Severe and critical cases showed higher viral load and prolonged viral shedding than asymptomatic and mild cases. Whereas plasma IgG was gradually increased and maintained during hospitalization, plasma IgM peaked at 3 weeks after symptom onset and dissipated. The antibody response in severe and critical cases was slightly delayed but stronger than those in others. High levels of interferon (IFN)-α, IFN-γ-induced protein-10, monokine induced by IFN-γ, and interleukin-6 at 5-10 days from symptom onset were associated with the severity of COVID-19. Our data indicate that high viral load in the respiratory tract and excessive production of cytokines and chemokines between 1 and 2 weeks from the symptom onset were significantly associated with the severity of COVID-19.

Abstract
AIM To determine whether irisin, a newly discovered myokine that links exercise-induced and metabolic homeostasis, is able to promote odontogenic differentiation and angiogenesis in human dental pulp cells (HDPCs). METHODOLOGY Cell viability in the presence of irisin was measured. Real-time PCR and Western blot analysis were performed to evaluate the expression levels of irisin, odontogenic and angiogenic markers. The involvement of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and the protein kinase B (Akt) signalling pathway was evaluated by Western blot. To evaluate mineralization nodule formation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and alizarin red S staining were performed. Scratch wound assays were performed to evaluate the effects of irisin on cell migration. The data were analysed using one-way analysis of variance (anova) followed by Tukey post hoc test and Student's t-test. Statistical significance was considered at P < 0.05. RESULTS Irisin significantly promoted odontogenic differentiation as evidenced by formation of mineralized nodules, induction of ALP activity and upregulation of odontogenic and angiogenic markers (P < 0.05). Scratch wound assays revealed that irisin significantly increased migration of HDPCs (P < 0.05). Phosphorylation of both MAPK and Akt was increased by irisin. MAPK and Akt inhibitors inhibited mineralization, cell migration and the increased expression of odontogenic and angiogenic markers. CONCLUSIONS Irisin promoted odontogenic differentiation and mineralization and has the potential for angiogenesis through activation of the MAPK and Akt signalling pathways in HDPCs.

Abstract
Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an emerging threat worldwide. This study aims to assess the serologic profiles and time kinetics of antibodies against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in patients with COVID-19 using two immunoassays. Methods A total of 97 samples serially collected from 17 patients with COVID-19 and 137 negative control samples were analyzed for IgM and IgG against SARS-CoV-2 using the AFIAS COVID-19 Ab (Boditech Med Inc., Chuncheon, Republic of Korea) and the EDI™ Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 ELISA Kit (Epitope Diagnostics, Inc., San Diego, CA). Results With both assays, IgM and IgG rapidly increased after 7 days post symptom onset (PSO). IgM antibody levels reached a peak at 15–35 d PSO and gradually decreased. IgG levels gradually increased and remained at similar levels after 22–35 d. The diagnostic sensitivities of IgM/IgG for ≤14d PSO were 21.4%/35.7~57.1% and increased to 41.2~52.9%/88.2~94.1% at >14 d PSO with specificities of 98.5%/94.2% for AFIAS COVID-19 Ab and 100.0%/96.4% for EDI™ Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 ELISA Kit. Among 137 negative controls, 12 samples (8.8%) showed positive or indeterminate results. Conclusions The antibody kinetics against SARS-CoV-2 are similar to common findings of acute viral infectious diseases. Antibody testing is useful for ruling out SARS-CoV-2 infection after 14 d PSO, detecting past infection, and epidemiologic surveys.

Abstract
We developed a new magnetic resonance indicator for necrotizing fasciitis (MRINEC) algorithm for differentiating necrotizing fasciitis (NF) from severe cellulitis (SC). All adults with suspected NF between 2010 and 2018 in a tertiary hospital in South Korea were enrolled. Sixty-one patients were diagnosed with NF and 28 with SC. Among them, 34 with NF and 15 with SC underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The MRINEC algorithm, a two-step decision tree including T2 hyperintensity of intermuscular deep fascia and diffuse T2 hyperintensity of deep peripheral fascia, diagnosed NF with 94% sensitivity (95% confidence interval (CI), 80–99%) and 60% specificity (95% CI, 32–84%). The algorithm accurately diagnosed all 15 NF patients with a high (≥8) laboratory risk indicator for necrotizing fasciitis (LRINEC) score. Among the five patients with an intermediate (6–7) LRINEC score, sensitivity and specificity were 100% (95% CI, 78–100%) and 0% (95% CI, 0–84%), respectively. Finally, among the 29 patients with a low (≤5) LRINEC score, the algorithm had a sensitivity and specificity of 88% (95% CI, 62–98%) and 69% (95% CI, 39–91%), respectively. The MRINEC algorithm may be a useful adjuvant method for diagnosing NF, especially when NF is suspected in patients with a low LRINEC score.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We conducted a longitudinal study to evaluate changes in the clinical presentation and epidemiology of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) in an academic, US medical center. METHODS Consecutive patients with monomicrobial SAB were enrolled from January 1995 to December 2015. Each person's initial bloodstream S. aureus isolate was genotyped using spa typing. Clonal complexes (CCs) were assigned using Ridom StaphType software. Changes over time in both the patient and bacterial characteristics were estimated with linear regression. Associations between genotypes or clinical characteristics and complications were estimated using multivariable regression models. RESULTS Among the 2348 eligible participants, 54.2% had an implantable, foreign body of some type. This proportion increased significantly during the 21-year study period, by 0.96% annually (P = .002), as did comorbid conditions and acquisition outside of the hospital. Rates of any metastatic complication also significantly increased, by 0.94% annually (P = .019). Among the corresponding bloodstream S. aureus isolates, spa-CC012 (multi-locus sequence type [MLST] CC30), -CC004 (MLST CC45), -CC189 (MLST CC1), and -CC084 (MLST CC15) all significantly declined during the study period, while spa-CC008 (MLST CC8) significantly increased. Patients with SAB due to spa-CC008 were significantly more likely to develop metastatic complications in general, and abscesses, septic emboli, and persistent bacteremia in particular. After adjusting for demographic, racial, and clinical variables, the USA300 variant of spa-CC008 was independently associated with metastatic complications (odds ratio 1.42; 95% confidence interval 1.02-1.99). CONCLUSIONS Systematic approaches for monitoring complications of SAB and genotyping the corresponding bloodstream isolates will help identify the emergence of hypervirulent clones and likely improve clinical management of this syndrome.

Abstract
Cystatin C (CysC) may estimate renal function more accurately than serum creatinine (SCr). The clinical impact of renal dose adjustment of cefepime according to CysC rather than SCr has remained uncertain. We investigated the efficacy and safety of CysC-guided cefepime dosing compared with SCr-guided dosing in hospitalized patients with pneumonia. All adults hospitalized with pneumonia between July 2016 and December 2018 who used cefepime for at least 3 days were enrolled. Mortality, acute kidney injury (AKI), cefepime-induced encephalopathy (CIE), and Clostridium difficile infection were compared between the CysC-guided and SCr-guided groups. One hundred and ninety patients were divided into two groups: 129 and 61 received cefepime based on CysC and SCr, respectively. In-hospital mortality did not significantly differ between the groups (12% versus 31%; hazard ratio (HR) 0.74; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.31-1.77; p = 0.50). CysC-guided cefepime dosing decreased the risk of AKI (13% versus 61%; HR 0.18; 95% CI, 0.07-0.44; p < 0.001) and CIE (2% versus 11%; HR 0.11; 95% CI, 0.03-0.47; p = 0.003) compared with SCr-guided dosing. There was no significant difference in the risk of Clostridium difficile infection. CysC-guided dosing of cefepime was associated with decreased risk of the cefepime-associated morbidities including AKI and CIE without increasing mortality among the hospitalized patients with pneumonia.

Abstract
Background/purpose Due to the pneumatization of the maxillary sinus, the sinus floor augmentation is often performed to implant placement in the maxillary posterior region. The aim was to perform radiographic and histomorphometric evaluation after placement of mixed allografts (cortical freeze-dried bone allograft [FDBA] 50%:cancellous FDBA 50%) during sinus floor augmentation. Materials and methods In 37 patients, anorganic bovine bone (ABB, sites = 16), mineralized cancellous bone allograft (MCBA, sites = 15), and mixed allografts (Mixed AG, sites = 20) were placed during sinus floor elevation via the lateral approach (LSFE), at total 51 sites with residual alveolar bone height (RBH) < 5 mm. Cone-beam computed tomography images were obtained before LSFE (T0), after surgery (T1), and 6 months after surgery (T2) for radiographic analysis. After a 6-month healing period, core biopsies were harvested and histomorphometric analysis was performed. Results The mean augmented bone height (ABH) of ABB, MCBA, and mixed AG groups after surgery was similar (13.86 ± 4.19 mm, 13.99 ± 4.07 mm, and 14.20 ± 3.12 mm, respectively; P > 0.05). The mean ABH of ABB, MCBA, and mixed AG groups after 6 months was similar (13.72 ± 4.55 mm, 11.83 ± 3.31 mm, and 12.53 ± 2.97 mm, respectively; P > 0.05). In the ABB, MCBA, and mixed AG groups, the proportion of newly formed bone (NB) was similar (36.13 ± 10.01%, 39.26 ± 10.72%, and 31.27 ± 18.31%, respectively; P > 0.05). Conclusion This result demonstrated that mixed AG led to sufficient bone augmentation and histologically comparable NB formation as compared to ABB and MCBA for sinus floor augmentation.

Abstract
Diagnoses based on oral fluid biomarkers have been introduced to overcome limitations of periodontal probe-based diagnoses. Diagnostic ability of certain biomarkers for periodontitis have been identified and widely studied, however, such studies targeting gingivitis is scarce. The aims of this study were to determine and compare the efficacies and accuracies of eight biomarkers in diagnosing gingivitis with the aid of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), bleeding on probing (BOP), gingival index (GI), and plaque index (PI) were examined in 100 participants. Gingival crevicular fluid was collected using paper points, and whole-saliva samples were collected using cotton roll. Samples were analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits for the different biomarkers. The levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-8, MMP-9, lactoferrin, cystatin C, myeloperoxidase (MPO), platelet-activating factor, cathepsin B, and pyridinoline cross-linked carboxyterminal telopeptide of type I collagen were analyzed. MPO and MMP-8 levels in saliva were strongly correlated with gingivitis, with Pearson’s correlation coefficients of 0.399 and 0.217, respectively. The area under the curve (AUC) was largest for MMP-8, at 0.814, followed by values of 0.793 and 0.777 for MPO and MMP-9, respectively. The clinical parameters of GI and PI showed strong correlations and large AUC values, whereas PD and CAL did not. MMP-8 and MPO were found to be effective for diagnosing gingivitis. Further investigations based on the results of this study may identify clinically useful biomarkers for the accurate and early detection of gingivitis.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Implant-supported prostheses have typically been retained by cement or screws, each of which has advantages and disadvantages. Two new types of prosthesis with complementary advantages and disadvantages have been proposed: the screw- and cement-retained prosthesis, which combines cement and screw retention, and the antiloosening inner-post screw (ALIPS) type, which uses lateral screws. Both esthetic and functional factors should be considered for anterior prostheses; however, clinical studies of the complication rates of these designs are lacking. PURPOSE The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to evaluate the complications of dental implant-supported restorations with various prosthetic types in the anterior region and to analyze other factors that affect complications. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study included 51 patients who had 83 implants placed in the anterior region by a single clinician between August 2009 and December 2016. Surgical and prosthetic features were recorded, and implant complications were analyzed. RESULTS There were 45 (55.4%) cement-retained implants, 5 (6.0%) screw- and cement-retained prosthesis implants, and 32 (38.6%) ALIPS-retained implants. Peri-implant mucositis was observed most frequently in the ALIPS type (21.9%), but the biological complications did not differ significantly with the prosthetic type. The most common mechanical complication was loss of retention in the cement type of prosthesis (30.4%) and screw loosening in the ALIPS type (43.8%). Implant complications varied with position (maxilla or mandible) and implantation timing (period from tooth extraction to implant placement). CONCLUSIONS The complications of implants placed in the anterior region were affected by different factors but did not differ significantly with the type of the retention.

Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of conventional sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched (SLA) surface coated with a pH buffering solution based on surface wettability, blood protein adhesion, osteoblast affinity, and platelet adhesion and activation. Methods Titanium discs and implants with conventional SLA surface (SA), SLA surface in an aqueous calcium chloride solution (CA), and SLA surface with a pH buffering agent (SOI) were prepared. The wetting velocity was measured by the number of threads wetted by blood over an interval of time. Serum albumin adsorption was tested using the bicinchoninic acid assay and by measuring fluorescence intensity. Osteoblast activity assays (osteoblast adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, mineralization, and migration) were also performed, and platelet adhesion and activation assays were conducted. Results In both the wetting velocity test and the serum albumin adsorption assay, the SOI surface displayed a significantly higher wetting velocity than the SA surface (P=0.000 and P=0.000, respectively). In the osteoblast adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization tests, the mean values for SOI were all higher than those for SA and CA. On the osteoblast migration, platelet adhesion, and activation tests, SOI also showed significantly higher values than SA (P=0.040, P=0.000, and P=0.000, respectively). Conclusions SOI exhibited higher hydrophilicity and affinity for proteins, cells, and platelets than SA. Within the limits of this study, it may be concluded that coating an implant with a pH buffering agent can induce the attachment of platelets, proteins, and cells to the implant surface. Further studies should be conducted to directly compare SOI with other conventional surfaces with regard to its safety and effectiveness in clinical settings.

Abstract
Purpose To overcome several drawbacks of chemically-crosslinked collagen membranes, modification processes such as ultraviolet (UV) crosslinking and the addition of biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) to collagen membranes have been introduced. This study evaluated the efficacy and biocompatibility of BCP-supplemented UV-crosslinked collagen membrane for guided bone regeneration (GBR) in a rabbit calvarial model. Methods Four circular bone defects (diameter, 8 mm) were created in the calvarium of 10 rabbits. Each defect was randomly allocated to one of the following groups: 1) the sham control group (spontaneous healing); 2) the M group (defect coverage with a BCP-supplemented UV-crosslinked collagen membrane and no graft material); 3) the BG (defects filled with BCP particles without membrane coverage); and 4) the BG+M group (defects filled with BCP particles and covered with a BCP-supplemented UV-crosslinked collagen membrane in a conventional GBR procedure). At 2 and 8 weeks, rabbits were sacrificed, and experimental defects were investigated histologically and by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Results In both micro-CT and histometric analyses, the BG and BG+M groups at both 2 and 8 weeks showed significantly higher new bone formation than the control group. On micro-CT, the new bone volume of the BG+M group (48.39±5.47 mm3) was larger than that of the BG group (38.71±2.24 mm3, P=0.032) at 8 weeks. Histologically, greater new bone area was observed in the BG+M group than in the BG or M groups. BCP-supplemented UV-crosslinked collagen membrane did not cause an abnormal cellular reaction and was stable until 8 weeks. Conclusions Enhanced new bone formation in GBR can be achieved by simultaneously using bone graft material and a BCP-supplemented UV-crosslinked collagen membrane, which showed high biocompatibility and resistance to degradation, making it a biocompatible alternative to chemically-crosslinked collagen membranes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The prognostic value of dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging on nonenhancing T2 high-signal-intensity lesions in patients with glioblastoma has not been thoroughly elucidated to date. We evaluated the temporal change and prognostic value for progression-free survival of dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging-derived pharmacokinetic parameters on nonenhancing T2 high-signal-intensity lesions in patients with glioblastoma before and after standard treatment, including gross total surgical resection. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study included 33 patients who were newly diagnosed with glioblastoma and treated with gross total surgical resection followed by concurrent chemoradiation therapy and adjuvant chemotherapy with temozolomide in a single institution. All patients underwent dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging before surgery as a baseline and after completion of maximal surgical resection and concurrent chemoradiation therapy. On the whole nonenhancing T2 high-signal-intensity lesion, dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging-derived pharmacokinetic parameters (volume transfer constant [K trans], volume of extravascular extracellular space [v e], and blood plasma volume [vp ]) were calculated. The Cox proportional hazards regression model analysis was performed to determine the histogram features or percentage changes of pharmacokinetic parameters related to progression-free survival. RESULTS Baseline median K trans, baseline first quartile K trans, and posttreatment median K trans were significant independent variables, as determined by univariate analysis (P < .05). By multivariate Cox regression analysis including methylation status of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase, baseline median K trans was determined to be the significant independent variable and was negatively related to progression-free survival (hazard ratio = 1.48, P = .003). CONCLUSIONS Baseline median K trans from nonenhancing T2 high-signal-intensity lesions could be a potential prognostic imaging biomarker in patients undergoing gross total surgical resection followed by standard therapy for glioblastoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Attempts have been made to quantify the microvascular leakiness of glioblastomas and use it as an imaging biomarker to predict the prognosis of the tumor. The purpose of our study was to evaluate whether the extraction fraction value from DSC-MR imaging within nonenhancing FLAIR hyperintense lesions was a better prognostic imaging biomarker than dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging parameters for patients with glioblastoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 102 patients with glioblastoma who received a preoperative dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging and DSC-MR imaging were included in this retrospective study. Patients were classified into the progression (n = 87) or nonprogression (n = 15) groups at 24 months after surgery. We extracted the means and 95th percentile values for the contrast leakage information parameters from both modalities within the nonenhancing FLAIR high-signal-intensity lesions. RESULTS The extraction fraction 95th percentile value was higher in the progression-free survival group of >24 months than at ≤24 months. The median progression-free survival of the group with an extraction fraction 95th percentile value of >13.32 was 17 months, whereas that of the group of ≤13.32 was 12 months. In addition, it was an independent predictor variable for progression-free survival in the patients regardless of their ages and genetic information. CONCLUSIONS The extraction fraction 95th percentile value was the only independent parameter for prognostic prediction in patients with glioblastoma among the contrast leakage information, which has no statistically significant correlations with the DCE-MR imaging parameters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Calcium phosphate (CaP)-coated surface showed enhanced contact osteogenesis around dental implant and finally accelerate osseointegration in early healing phase. PURPOSE The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to compare the peri-implant marginal bone level around uncoated and CaP-coated sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched (SLA) surface implants during the first year after placement. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was performed upon 34 patients with randomized and double-blinded design. Clinical and radiographic examinations were performed immediately after implant placement, at re-entry after 3 months, and after 12 months to evaluate the initial stability and change in the marginal bone level. The distance from the implant shoulder to the top of the bone-to-implant contact was defined as the marginal bone level, and its alteration was measured at 1 year after implant installation. RESULTS None of the implants failed, and most of them showed a marginal bone loss of less than 1 mm. Small changes in the bone level were noted at all sites in the control and test groups, and there were no clinically significant differences in the changes in the marginal bone. CONCLUSION Both CaP-coated and uncoated SLA surface implants showed comparably successful marginal bone stability without any complications during the first year after placement.

Abstract
The aim of this case report is to report clinical, radiologic, and histologic healing outcomes following functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) to manage maxillary sinusitis after lateral sinus augmentation. Three patients who underwent lateral sinus augmentation developed maxillary sinusitis after 3 to 4 weeks. Pharmacologic interventions were performed, but the patients' symptoms did not resolve. The patients were referred to an otorhinolaryngologist and underwent FESS without the removal of bone substitute material or implants. The patients' symptoms disappeared completely after FESS. The implants were osseointegrated successfully and have functioned well to date (between 4 months and 7 years after definitive prosthesis delivery). No pathologic change was noted clinically or radiologically after FESS. However, biopsy specimens demonstrated some new bone formation with varying degrees of fibrotic change and tissue density, which is not compatible with the clinical and radiologic observations. FESS without intraoral debridement may be sufficient to resolve maxillary sinusitis after lateral sinus augmentation; this may not lead to favorable histologic healing in the augmented sinus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is no consensus on the optimal treatment of T1b gallbladder cancer (GBC) due to the lack of evidence and the difficulty of anatomy and pathological standardization. METHODS A total of 272 patients with T1b GBC who underwent surgical resection at 14 centers with specialized hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgeons and pathologists in Korea, Japan, Chile, and the United States were studied. Clinical outcomes including disease-specific survival (DSS) rates according to the types of surgery were analyzed. RESULTS After excluding patients, the 237 qualifying patients consisted of 90 men and 147 women. Simple cholecystectomy (SC) was performed in 116 patients (48.9%) and extended cholecystectomy (EC) in 121 patients (51.1%). The overall 5-year DSS was 94.6%, and it was similar between SC and EC patients (93.7% vs. 95.5%, P = 0.496). The 5-year DSS was similar between SC and EC patients in America (82.3% vs. 100.0%, P = 0.249) as well as in Asia (98.6% vs. 95.2%, P = 0.690). The 5-year DSS also did not differ according to lymph node metastasis (P = 0.688) or tumor location (P = 0.474). CONCLUSIONS SC showed similar clinical outcomes (including recurrence) and survival outcomes as EC; therefore, EC is not needed for the treatment of T1b GBC.

Abstract
Background To evaluate gingival inflammation from fixed-dose combinations of vitamin C, vitamin E, lysozyme and carbazochrome (CELC) in the treatment of chronic periodontitis following scaling and root planing. Methods One hundred patients were randomly assigned to receive CELC (test) or placebo (control) for the first 4 weeks at a 1:1 ratio, and both groups received CELC for the remaining 4 weeks. Primary outcome was the mean change in the gingival index (GI) after 4 weeks. Secondary outcomes included mean change in GI after 8 weeks and plaque index, probing depth, clinical attachment level, and VAS at 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Results Ninety-three patients completed the study. The GI in the test group significantly decreased after 4 weeks (p < 0.001) and 8 weeks (p < 0.001). The mean change from baseline in GI significantly decreased in the test group compared to the control group after 4 weeks (p = 0.015). In the GEE model adjusting for age, gender and visits, the test group showed 2.5 times GI improvement compared to the control group (p = 0.022). Conclusions Within the study, CELC showed a significant reduction in gingival inflammation compared with a placebo. Other parameters, however, were similar between groups.
