Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Adult patients with ischemic Moyamoya disease are advised to undergo selective revascularization surgery based on cerebral hemodynamics. The purpose of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of arterial spin-labeling MR imaging using Hadamard-encoded multiple postlabeling delays for the detection of reduced CBF in such patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-seven patients underwent brain perfusion SPECT and pseudocontinuous arterial spin-labeling MR imaging using standard postlabeling delay (1525 ms) and Hadamard-encoded multiple postlabeling delays. For Hadamard-encoded multiple postlabeling delays, based on data obtained from the 7 sub-boluses with combinations of different labeling durations and postlabeling delays, CBF corrected by the arterial transit time was calculated on a voxel-by-voxel basis. Using a 3D stereotaxic template, we automatically placed ROIs in the ipsilateral cerebellar hemisphere and 5 MCA territories in the symptomatic cerebral hemisphere; then, the ratio of the MCA to cerebellar ROI was calculated. RESULTS The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for detecting reduced SPECT-CBF ratios (<0.686) was significantly greater for the Hadamard-encoded multiple postlabeling delays-CBF ratios (0.885) than for the standard postlabeling delay-CBF ratios (0.786) (P = .001). The sensitivity and negative predictive value for the Hadamard-encoded multiple postlabeling delays-CBF ratios were 100% (95% confidence interval, 100%-100%) and significantly higher than the sensitivity (95% CI, 44%-80%) and negative predictive value (95% CI, 88%-97%) for the standard postlabeling delay-CBF ratio, respectively. CONCLUSIONS ASL MR imaging using Hadamard-encoded multiple postlabeling delays may be applicable as a screening tool because it can detect reduced CBF on brain perfusion SPECT with 100% sensitivity and a 100% negative predictive value in adult patients with ischemic Moyamoya disease.

Abstract
PROBLEM/CONDITION Adults are at risk for illness, hospitalization, disability and, in some cases, death from vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly influenza and pneumococcal disease. CDC recommends vaccinations for adults on the basis of age, health conditions, prior vaccinations, and other considerations. Updated vaccination recommendations from CDC are published annually in the U.S. Adult Immunization Schedule. Despite longstanding recommendations for use of many vaccines, vaccination coverage among U.S. adults remains low. REPORTING PERIOD August 2017-June 2018 (for influenza vaccination) and January-December 2018 (for pneumococcal, herpes zoster, tetanus and diphtheria [Td]/tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis [Tdap], hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and human papillomavirus [HPV] vaccination). DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is a continuous, cross-sectional national household survey of the noninstitutionalized U.S. civilian population. In-person interviews are conducted throughout the year in a probability sample of households, and NHIS data are compiled and released annually. NHIS's objective is to monitor the health of the U.S. population and provide estimates of health indicators, health care use and access, and health-related behaviors. Adult receipt of influenza, pneumococcal, herpes zoster, Td/Tdap, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and at least 1 dose of HPV vaccines was assessed. Estimates were derived for a new composite adult vaccination quality measure and by selected demographic and access-to-care characteristics (e.g., age, race/ethnicity, indication for vaccination, travel history [travel to countries where hepatitis infections are endemic], health insurance status, contacts with physicians, nativity, and citizenship). Trends in adult vaccination were assessed during 2010-2018. RESULTS Coverage for the adult age-appropriate composite measure was low in all age groups. Racial and ethnic differences in coverage persisted for all vaccinations, with lower coverage for most vaccinations among non-White compared with non-Hispanic White adults. Linear trend tests indicated coverage increased from 2010 to 2018 for most vaccines in this report. Few adults aged ≥19 years had received all age-appropriate vaccines, including influenza vaccination, regardless of whether inclusion of Tdap (13.5%) or inclusion of any tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine (20.2%) receipt was measured. Coverage among adults for influenza vaccination during the 2017-18 season (46.1%) was similar to the estimate for the 2016-17 season (45.4%), and coverage for pneumococcal (adults aged ≥65 years [69.0%]), herpes zoster (adults aged ≥50 years and aged ≥60 years [24.1% and 34.5%, respectively]), tetanus (adults aged ≥19 years [62.9%]), Tdap (adults aged ≥19 years [31.2%]), hepatitis A (adults aged ≥19 years [11.9%]), and HPV (females aged 19-26 years [52.8%]) vaccination in 2018 were similar to the estimates for 2017. Hepatitis B vaccination coverage among adults aged ≥19 years and health care personnel (HCP) aged ≥19 years increased 4.2 and 6.7 percentage points to 30.0% and 67.2%, respectively, from 2017. HPV vaccination coverage among males aged 19-26 years increased 5.2 percentage points to 26.3% from the 2017 estimate. Overall, HPV vaccination coverage among females aged 19-26 years did not increase, but coverage among Hispanic females aged 19-26 years increased 10.8 percentage points to 49.6% from the 2017 estimate. Coverage for the following vaccines was lower among adults without health insurance compared with those with health insurance: influenza vaccine (among adults aged ≥19 years, 19-49 years, and 50-64 years), pneumococcal vaccine (among adults aged 19-64 years at increased risk), Td vaccine (among all age groups), Tdap vaccine (among adults aged ≥19 years and 19-64 years), hepatitis A vaccine (among adults aged ≥19 years overall and among travelers aged ≥19 years), hepatitis B vaccine (among adults aged ≥19 years and 19-49 years and among travelers aged ≥19 years), herpes zoster vaccine (among adults aged ≥60 years), and HPV vaccine (among males and females aged 19-26 years). Adults who reported having a usual place for health care generally reported receipt of recommended vaccinations more often than those who did not have such a place, regardless of whether they had health insurance. Vaccination coverage was higher among adults reporting ≥1 physician contact during the preceding year compared with those who had not visited a physician during the preceding year, regardless of whether they had health insurance. Even among adults who had health insurance and ≥10 physician contacts during the preceding year, depending on the vaccine, 20.1%-87.5% reported not having received vaccinations that were recommended either for all persons or for those with specific indications. Overall, vaccination coverage among U.S.-born adults was significantly higher than that of foreign-born adults, including influenza vaccination (aged ≥19 years), pneumococcal vaccination (all ages), tetanus vaccination (all ages), Tdap vaccination (all ages), hepatitis B vaccination (aged ≥19 years and 19-49 years and travelers aged ≥19 years), herpes zoster vaccination (all ages), and HPV vaccination among females aged 19-26 years. Vaccination coverage also varied by citizenship status and years living in the United States. INTERPRETATION NHIS data indicate that many adults remain unprotected against vaccine-preventable diseases. Coverage for the adult age-appropriate composite measures was low in all age groups. Individual adult vaccination coverage remained low as well, but modest gains occurred in vaccination coverage for hepatitis B (among adults aged ≥19 years and HCP aged ≥19 years), and HPV (among males aged 19-26 years and Hispanic females aged 19-26 years). Coverage for other vaccines and groups with Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices vaccination indications did not improve from 2017. Although HPV vaccination coverage among males aged 19-26 years and Hispanic females aged 19-26 years increased, approximately 50% of females aged 19-26 years and 70% of males aged 19-26 years remained unvaccinated. Racial/ethnic vaccination differences persisted for routinely recommended adult vaccines. Having health insurance coverage, having a usual place for health care, and having ≥1 physician contacts during the preceding 12 months were associated with higher vaccination coverage; however, these factors alone were not associated with optimal adult vaccination coverage, and findings indicate missed opportunities to vaccinate remained. PUBLIC HEALTH ACTIONS Substantial improvement in adult vaccination uptake is needed to reduce the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases. Following the Standards for Adult Immunization Practice (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/adults/for-practice/standards/index.html), all providers should routinely assess adults' vaccination status at every clinical encounter, strongly recommend appropriate vaccines, either offer needed vaccines or refer their patients to another provider who can administer the needed vaccines, and document vaccinations received by their patients in an immunization information system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In June 2019, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended discontinuing the routine use of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) among adults aged ≥65 years and instead recommended PCV13 be used based on shared clinical decision making (SCDM). OBJECTIVES We wanted to assess among primary care physicians (1) knowledge and attitudes regarding the new SCDM PCV13 recommendation and (2) how the new recommendation will affect their likelihood of recommending PCV13 to adults aged ≥65 years. DESIGN This was done by mail and internet-based survey, which was conducted October 2019 through January 2020. The study was carried out on a nationally representative sample of general internists (GIMs) and family physicians (FPs). RESULTS The response rate was 64% (617/968, GIM 57%, FP 71%). Only 41% of respondents were aware of the SCDM PCV13 recommendation in adults aged ≥65 years; 76% agreed (37% "Strongly," 39% "Somewhat") that their patients aged ≥65 years will get confused by having a SCDM recommendation for PCV13 and a routine recommendation for the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23); 60% agreed (18% "Strongly," 42% "Somewhat") that they were unsure of what points to emphasize when having a SCDM conversation with an adult aged ≥65 years about receiving PCV13. Just over 50% reported they would be less likely to recommend PCV13 for adults aged ≥65 years as a result of the new recommendation, but 42% reported that their recommendation for PCV13 would not change. CONCLUSIONS Word of the new ACIP recommendation for PCV13 for adults aged ≥65 years needs to be further disseminated. Investigation into why some physicians do not plan to change their recommendations is warranted.

Abstract
Adults aged ≥65 years are at increased risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 and were identified as a priority group to receive the first COVID-19 vaccines approved for use under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the United States (1-3). In an evaluation at 24 hospitals in 14 states,* the effectiveness of partial or full vaccination† with Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines against COVID-19-associated hospitalization was assessed among adults aged ≥65 years. Among 417 hospitalized adults aged ≥65 years (including 187 case-patients and 230 controls), the median age was 73 years, 48% were female, 73% were non-Hispanic White, 17% were non-Hispanic Black, 6% were Hispanic, and 4% lived in a long-term care facility. Adjusted vaccine effectiveness (VE) against COVID-19-associated hospitalization among adults aged ≥65 years was estimated to be 94% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 49%-99%) for full vaccination and 64% (95% CI = 28%-82%) for partial vaccination. These findings are consistent with efficacy determined from clinical trials in the subgroup of adults aged ≥65 years (4,5). This multisite U.S. evaluation under real-world conditions suggests that vaccination provided protection against COVID-19-associated hospitalization among adults aged ≥65 years. Vaccination is a critical tool for reducing severe COVID-19 in groups at high risk.

Abstract
The selection of low-radioactive construction materials is of utmost importance for the success of low-energy rare event search experiments. Besides radioactive contaminants in the bulk, the emanation of radioactive radon atoms from material surfaces attains increasing relevance in the effort to further reduce the background of such experiments. In this work, we present the 222 Rn emanation measurements performed for the XENON1T dark matter experiment. Together with the bulk impurity screening campaign, the results enabled us to select the radio-purest construction materials, targeting a 222 Rn activity concentration of 10 μ Bq / kg in 3.2 t of xenon. The knowledge of the distribution of the 222 Rn sources allowed us to selectively eliminate problematic components in the course of the experiment. The predictions from the emanation measurements were compared to data of the 222 Rn activity concentration in XENON1T. The final 222 Rn activity concentration of ( 4.5 ± 0.1 ) μ Bq / kg in the target of XENON1T is the lowest ever achieved in a xenon dark matter experiment.

Abstract
Psittacosis is typically a mild febrile respiratory illness caused by infection with the bacterium Chlamydia psittaci and usually transmitted to humans by infected birds (1). On average, 11 psittacosis cases per year were reported in the United States during 2000-2017. During August-October 2018, the largest U.S. psittacosis outbreak in 30 years (82 cases identified*) occurred in two poultry slaughter plants, one each in Virginia and Georgia, that shared source farms (2). CDC used C. psittaci real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to test 54 human specimens from this outbreak. This was the largest number of human specimens from a single outbreak ever tested for C. psittaci using real-time PCR, which is faster and more sensitive than commercially available serologic tests. This represented a rare opportunity to assess the utility of multiple specimen types for real-time PCR detection of C. psittaci. C. psittaci was detected more frequently in lower respiratory specimens (59% [10 of 17]) and stool (four of five) than in upper respiratory specimens (7% [two of 28]). Among six patients with sputum and nasopharyngeal swabs tested, C. psittaci was detected only in sputum in five patients. Cycle threshold (Ct) values suggested bacterial load was higher in lower respiratory specimens than in nasopharyngeal swabs. These findings support prioritizing lower respiratory specimens for real-time PCR detection of C. psittaci. Stool specimens might also have utility for diagnosis of psittacosis.

Abstract
We report on a search for nuclear recoil signals from solar ^{8}B neutrinos elastically scattering off xenon nuclei in XENON1T data, lowering the energy threshold from 2.6 to 1.6 keV. We develop a variety of novel techniques to limit the resulting increase in backgrounds near the threshold. No significant ^{8}B neutrinolike excess is found in an exposure of 0.6 t×y. For the first time, we use the nondetection of solar neutrinos to constrain the light yield from 1-2 keV nuclear recoils in liquid xenon, as well as nonstandard neutrino-quark interactions. Finally, we improve upon world-leading constraints on dark matter-nucleus interactions for dark matter masses between 3 and 11 GeV c^{-2} by as much as an order of magnitude.

Abstract
A kinematically complete quasifree (p,pn) experiment in inverse kinematics was performed to study the structure of the Borromean nucleus ^{17}B, which had long been considered to have a neutron halo. By analyzing the momentum distributions and exclusive cross sections, we obtained the spectroscopic factors for 1s_{1/2} and 0d_{5/2} orbitals, and a surprisingly small percentage of 9(2)% was determined for 1s_{1/2}. Our finding of such a small 1s_{1/2} component and the halo features reported in prior experiments can be explained by the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum, revealing a definite but not dominant neutron halo in ^{17}B. The present work gives the smallest s- or p-orbital component among known nuclei exhibiting halo features and implies that the dominant occupation of s or p orbitals is not a prerequisite for the occurrence of a neutron halo.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Invasive group B Streptococcus (iGBS) isolates with mutations in the pbp2x gene that encodes penicillin binding protein 2x can have reduced beta-lactam susceptibility (RBLS) when susceptible by Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) criteria. We assessed the emergence and characteristics of RBLS strains in US iGBS isolates. METHODS We analyzed iGBS isolates from 8 multistate population-based surveillance sites from 1998 to 2018. During 1998-2014, phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by broth microdilution; criteria for 6 antibiotics were used to identify RBLS, followed by whole-genome sequencing (WGS). WGS for all isolates was added in 2015; we used phenotypic and genotypic results of >2000 isolates to validate phenotypic RBLS criteria and genotypic predictions. Since 2016, WGS has been used to screen for RBLS with broth microdilution confirmation of predicted RBLS isolates. RESULTS Of 28 269 iGBS isolates, 28 (0.1%) were nonsusceptible by CLSI criteria; 137 (0.5%) met RBLS criteria. RBLS isolates were detected in all Active Bacterial Core surveillance sites. The RBLS proportion increased, especially since 2013 (odds ratio, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.03-1.32); the proportion that were nonsusceptible remained stable. CONCLUSIONS The RBSL proportion was low but increasing among US iGBS isolates. Ongoing monitoring is needed to detect emerging threats to prevention and treatment of GBS infections.

Abstract
Public health travel restrictions (PHTR) are crucial measures during communicable disease outbreaks to prevent transmission during commercial airline travel and mitigate cross-border importation and spread. We evaluated PHTR implementation for US citizens on the Diamond Princess during its coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Japan in February 2020 to explore how PHTR reduced importation of COVID-19 to the United States during the early phase of disease containment. Using PHTR required substantial collaboration among the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, other US government agencies, the cruise line, and public health authorities in Japan. Original US PHTR removal criteria were modified to reflect international testing protocols and enable removal of PHTR for persons who recovered from illness. The impact of PHTR on epidemic trajectory depends on the risk for transmission during travel and geographic spread of disease. Lessons learned from the Diamond Princess outbreak provide critical information for future PHTR use.

Abstract
An immunocompetent adult with asthma developed severe human metapneumovirus (HMPV) illness complicated by group A Streptococcus coinfection, progressing to acute respiratory distress syndrome and shock. Several coworkers had less severe HMPV infection. HMPV can cause severe respiratory illness in healthy adults and should be considered as a potential cause of community respiratory outbreaks.

Abstract
Background In the United States, approximately 30,000 invasive group B Streptococcus (iGBS) infections occur annually; beta-lactam antibiotics (BL) are the first choice for prevention in young infants and treatment in all age groups. We obtained phenotypic and genotypic data for iGBS isolates from U.S. population-based surveillance sites to describe the emergence and characteristics of strains with reduced beta-lactam susceptibility (RS) over a 20-year period. Methods We analyzed RS iGBS isolates from eight Active Bacterial Core surveillance sites from 1998–2017. Through 2014, minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) for six BL were determined by broth microdilution, followed by whole genome sequencing (WGS) of RS isolates exceeding pre-defined breakpoints (Table 1). In 2015, WGS and MIC testing were performed for all isolates. After 2015, all isolates underwent WGS. MIC testing was continued on approximately 25% of isolates; otherwise, only those with modified penicillin binding protein (PBP) 2x transpeptidase amino acid sequence types or suboptimal WGS (< 1 % of isolates) underwent MIC testing. Clinical information on RS cases was abstracted from medical charts. Results Of 26,058 out of 27,269 iGBS isolates (95.6%) tested to date, 107 (0.4%) exhibited RS, increasing from 0% in 1998 to a peak of 1.1% in 2016 (P< 0.05 for trend) (Figure 1). Seven (6.5%) RS strains were from infants aged < 90 days; the rest were from adults aged ≥30 years (Table 2). RS strains consisted of 52 PBP2x types with diverse susceptibility patterns (Table 1). Seven RS strains (6.5%) had wild-type (non-modified) PBP2x; all met the RS criteria based on a single cephalosporin with a confirmed (repeated) MIC value at the break point (Table 1). Compared to non-RS strains, RS strains were more common in patients who presented with cellulitis and osteomyelitis and with underlying conditions such as diabetes or chronic skin breakdown (Table 2). Of 82 (85.4%) patients with RS strains and additional clinical information, 8.3% had known prior GBS infection; 26.8% had known BL exposure in the preceding year. ![]()

Conclusion Preliminary results show that RS increased in recent years; strains RS to penicillin and ampicillin remain low. Background
In June 2019, the U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices changed the recommendation for routine PCV13 use in immunocompetent adults aged ≥65, including those with certain chronic medical conditions (CMC); PCV13 is now recommended based on shared clinical decision-making. Adults with CMC continue to be at increased risk for pneumococcal disease. We assessed the cost-effectiveness of adding PCV13 to the recommended PPSV23 dose for adults aged ≥19 years with CMC.
Methods
We used a probabilistic model following a cohort of 19-year-old U.S. adults. We used Monte Carlo simulation to estimate the impact on program, medical, and non-medical costs (in 2017 U.S. dollars [$] using the societal perspective), and pneumococcal disease burden when administering PCV13 in series with PPSV23. Table 1 shows vaccine effectiveness (VE) assumptions for the base case. We performed one-way sensitivity analyses assuming higher PCV13 VE against serotype 3 disease.

Results
In the base-case scenario, adding a dose of PCV13 upon CMC diagnosis cost $689,299 per QALY. Results of one-way sensitivity analyses are presented in Table 2.

Conclusion
Adding PCV13 in series with PPSV23 for adults 19 years or older with CMC was not cost-saving. Results were sensitive to assumptions on PCV13 VE against serotype 3 disease.

Abstract
Autoimmune neutropenia (AIN) in childhood is characterized by chronic neutropenia and positivity for anti-neutrophil antibodies, resulting in the excessive destruction of neutrophils. In this study, we investigated the involvement of regulatory T cells (Tregs ) in the pathogenesis of AIN in childhood. Tregs have been classified into three subpopulations based on the expressions of CD45RA and forkhead box protein 3 (FoxP3): resting Tregs , activated Tregs and non-suppressive Tregs . The frequency of activated Tregs (CD4+ CD25+ FoxP3high CD45RA- T cells) as well as that of total Tregs (CD4+ CD25+ FoxP3+ T cells) in peripheral blood was significantly decreased in patients with AIN. Analysis of the T cell receptor (TCR)-Vβ repertoire of CD4+ T cells revealed skewed usages in patients with AIN compared with that observed in age-matched control subjects. Regarding T cell subsets, the use of four of 24 TCR-Vβ families in Tregs and one in conventional T cells were increased in patients with AIN. The number of patients with AIN who showed skewed usages of TCR-Vβ family in conventional and Tregs was significantly higher than that reported in control subjects. When the preference between Tregs and conventional T cells in each TCR-Vβ family was individually compared, different use was prominently observed in the TCR-Vβ 9 family in patients with AIN. These results suggest that the quantitative abnormalities of Tregs and the skew of the TCR-Vβ repertoire in CD4+ T cells, including Tregs and conventional T cells, may be related to autoantibody production through a human neutrophil antigen-reactive T cell clone.

Abstract
The formation of a dineutron in the ^{11}Li nucleus is found to be localized to the surface region. The experiment measured the intrinsic momentum of the struck neutron in ^{11}Li via the (p,pn) knockout reaction at 246 MeV/nucleon. The correlation angle between the two neutrons is, for the first time, measured as a function of the intrinsic neutron momentum. A comparison with reaction calculations reveals the localization of the dineutron at r∼3.6 fm. The results also support the density dependence of dineutron formation as deduced from Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations for nuclear matter.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, and histoplasmosis cause various symptoms and syndromes, which may present similarly to other infections such as bacterial or viral community-acquired pneumonia, influenza, and tuberculosis. METHODS We used the IBM® MarketScan® Research Databases to identify adult outpatients with International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnosis codes during 2016-2017 for blastomycosis; coccidioidomycosis; histoplasmosis; pneumonia (viral, bacterial, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and unspecified pneumonia); influenza; tuberculosis; and other lower and upper respiratory infections. We compared symptoms on and in the 90 days before diagnosis between patients with these diagnosis codes. RESULTS Fever was less common in blastomycosis (2.6%), histoplasmosis (5.3%) and coccidioidomycosis (9.4%) than in influenza (18.5%) or pneumonia (12.6%-16.3%) patients. Fungal diseases resembled bacterial, viral, and unspecified pneumonias for many pulmonary symptoms. However, cough was more common with coccidioidomycosis (31.4%) and less common with histoplasmosis (14.0%) and blastomycosis (13.1%) vs. influenza (20.2%). Although less frequent, solitary pulmonary nodule (5.2%-14.4%), enlarged lymph nodes (3.7%-9.0%), hyperhidrosis (<2%), and erythema nodosum (<2%) were particularly suggestive of fungal diseases. CONCLUSIONS Despite limitations inherent in administrative coding, this analysis of symptom codes across disease types suggests that fungal diseases may be difficult to clinically distinguish from other causes of pneumonia except when certain uncommon symptoms are present. Healthcare providers caring for patients with pneumonia, especially if non-responsive to conventional treatment, should consider fungal diseases as possible etiologies.

Abstract
Pain and discomfort are common problems for patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. We have demonstrated that cortical excitation propagation in the somatosensory and insular cortices (IC) induced by electrical stimulation of the periodontal ligament (PDL) is facilitated 1 d after experimental tooth movement (ETM). However, it is necessary to examine ETM-induced changes in neural responses at a single-cell level to understand the mechanisms of cortical plastic changes, in which excitatory glutamatergic and inhibitory GABAergic neurons are intermingled to form cortical local circuits. We performed in vivo 2-photon Ca2+ imaging by loading the Ca2+ indicator Oregon Green BAPTA with the astrocyte marker sulforhodamine. We focused on the IC region that exhibited the largest neural response to maxillary PDL (mxPDL) stimulation using a VGAT-Venus transgenic rat that expresses venus fluorescent protein in GABAergic neurons and discerned changes in the neural activities of each cortical neuronal subtype before and during ETM treatment of the maxillary incisor and first molar. Notably, 1 d after ETM treatment (1d-ETM), the number of neurons responding to mxPDL stimulation increased from 47.6% to 64.2% in excitatory neurons and from 44.5% to 66.2% in inhibitory neurons. On the other hand, only 3% to 4% of excitatory and inhibitory neurons responded to mandibular molar PDL (mbPDL) stimulation in control rats, and the 1d-ETM group showed significant increases in excitatory (14.0%) and inhibitory neurons (22.5%) responding to mbPDL stimulation. Interestingly, most mbPDL-responding neurons also responded to mxPDL stimulation. The population of excitatory and inhibitory neurons that responded only to mxPDL stimulation was comparable between the control and 1d-ETM groups. The facilitative responses in the 1d-ETM group had almost recovered 7 d after ETM treatment. These results suggest that ETM induces parallel increases in PDL-responding neurons and changes some insensitive neurons to respond to both mxPDL and mbPDL stimulation.

Abstract
We performed the first direct mass measurements of neutron-rich scandium, titanium, and vanadium isotopes around the neutron number 40 at the RIKEN RI Beam Factory using the time-of-flight magnetic-rigidity technique. The atomic mass excesses of ^{58-60}Sc, ^{60-62}Ti, and ^{62-64}V were measured for the first time. The experimental results show that the two-neutron separation energies in the vicinity of ^{62}Ti increase compared to neighboring nuclei. This shows that the masses of Ti isotopes near N=40 are affected by the Jahn-Teller effect. Therefore, a development of Jahn-Teller stabilization appears below the Cr isotopes, and the systematics in Sc, Ti, and V isotopes suggest that ^{62}Ti is located close to the peak of the Jahn-Teller effect.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the respiratory disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was first identified in Wuhan, China and has since become pandemic. In response to the first cases identified in the United States, close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases were investigated to enable early identification and isolation of additional cases and to learn more about risk factors for transmission. Close contacts of nine early travel-related cases in the United States were identified and monitored daily for development of symptoms (active monitoring). Selected close contacts (including those with exposures categorized as higher risk) were targeted for collection of additional exposure information and respiratory samples. Respiratory samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Four hundred four close contacts were actively monitored in the jurisdictions that managed the travel-related cases. Three hundred thirty-eight of the 404 close contacts provided at least basic exposure information, of whom 159 close contacts had ≥1 set of respiratory samples collected and tested. Across all actively monitored close contacts, two additional symptomatic COVID-19 cases (i.e., secondary cases) were identified; both secondary cases were in spouses of travel-associated case patients. When considering only household members, all of whom had ≥1 respiratory sample tested for SARS-CoV-2, the secondary attack rate (i.e., the number of secondary cases as a proportion of total close contacts) was 13% (95% CI: 4-38%). The results from these contact tracing investigations suggest that household members, especially significant others, of COVID-19 cases are at highest risk of becoming infected. The importance of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers is also underlined. Isolation of persons with COVID-19, in combination with quarantine of exposed close contacts and practice of everyday preventive behaviors, is important to mitigate spread of COVID-19.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
There are numerous reports that social and emotional skills in early childhood have profound influence on lifelong health. The aim of this research is to determine the relation between the lifestyle and the social and emotional skills among children in present day Japan.
Methods
The object of analysis was a total of 110 parents of kindergarten students (56 boys, 48 girls,6 gender unknown) from 3 kindergartens in central Okinawa Island. The survey was conducted in mid-December 2019. Regarding the content of the survey, parents were asked to answer on a five-point scale, based on their subjective opinion, how good is their child, as compared to other children, in each of the 9 sub-scales of the social and emotional skills proposed in the 2015 OECD report, namely “perseverance,” “self-control,” “passion for goals,” “sociability,” “respect,” “caring,” “self-esteem,” “optimism,” “confidence.” Additionally, other question items were set, mainly to ask about the child's own lifestyle.
Results
The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis are following. As for “achieving goals:” 3 items for perseverance - “there are few likes and dislikes about food (OR:2.67, 95%CI:1.03~6.94, p=.043),” “Time for playing games on smartphone is determined (OR:3.21, 95%CI:1.19~8.68, p=.021),” “Eat more fruits (OR:3.03, 95%CI:1.24~8.26, p=.016),” are statistically significant. Conclusions
It became clear that the acquisition of social and emotional skills during early childhood generally involves regular lifestyle and “discipline” at home as a whole. Besides, it is important for parent and child to do various activities together, including those aiming to increase cognitive skills. This study is considered to be a powerful evidence for the development of future intervention programme, aimed at acquiring social and emotional skills in early childhood.
