Abstract
Placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) is the rarest form of gestational trophoblastic diseases. We report a 40-year-old woman who presented initially after a year of secondary infertility with prolonged menstrual flow. Her last pregnancy ended in a suction dilation and curettage at 8 weeks' gestation for a missed abortion. A hysterosalpingogram revealed a solid 5 x 4.5 cm filling defect impinging on the endometrial cavity suggestive of a submucosal leiomyoma. A vaginal sonogram confirmed the findings. The patient underwent a laparotomy for excision of the 5-cm friable, necrotic mass that was performed by curetting. Pathologic examination of the specimen revealed sheets of intermediate trophoblastic cells characterized by large polyhedral cells and positive human placental lactogen staining consistent with PSTT. The patient eventually underwent total abdominal hysterectomy 4 weeks later with no evidence of residual tumor on histologic examination.

Abstract
NZB mice develop an age-related malignant expansion of a subset of B cells, B-1 cells, with autocrine production of IL-10. IL-10, a pleiotropic cytokine with anti-inflammatory properties, is a potent growth and survival factor for malignant B cells. To further examine the in vivo requirement for IL-10 in the development and expansion of malignant B-1 clones in NZB mice, we developed a strain of homozygous IL-10 knockout (KO) mice on an NZB background. The NZB IL-10 KO mice develop peritoneal B-1 cells with approximately the same frequency as heterozygous and wild-type littermates. In contrast, the development of malignant B-1 cells in the peripheral blood and spleen, observed in wild-type NZB, rarely occurred in the NZB IL-10 KO. Phenotypic analysis of surface marker expression in splenic B cells indicated that, in contrast to the NZB with malignant B-1 splenic lymphoma, the surface marker expression of NZB IL-10 KO splenic B cells indicated that the majority of the B cells were typical B-2 cells. In the absence of IL-10, spontaneously activated B cells and antiapoptotic gene expression were reduced and lymphoma incidence was decreased. These results indicate that IL-10 is a critical factor for the progression of this B-cell malignant disease.

Abstract
HYPOTHESIS Graduated surgeons have differences in concerns when comparisons are made between fellows and practicing surgeons, practicing surgeons and residents, and male and female surgeons. DESIGN AND SETTING A survey was distributed to surgeons who graduated from 17 New England residency programs from 1993 to 1996, consisting of 9 demographic questions and 33 items coded on a Likert-type scale (with scores from 1 [least concerning] to 5 [most concerning]). PARTICIPANTS Surgical fellows and practicing surgeons recently graduated from general surgical residency programs in New England who had participated in a previous study as residents. INTERVENTION Distribution and completion of the survey. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Personal and career-oriented concerns of recently graduated surgical residents. RESULTS Personal issues continue to rank high for graduated residents, but the areas of greatest concern became more financially and career oriented. The top concerns of fellows were personal finances (mean score, 3.2), child rearing (mean score, 3.1), salary (mean score, 3.1), postponing family plans (mean score, 3.0), availability of role models (mean score, 2.9), and number of work hours (mean score, 2.8). The top concerns of practicing surgeons were salary (mean score, 3.2), personal finances (mean score, 3.1), number of referrals (mean score, 3.0), support for research (mean score, 2.7), child rearing (mean score, 2.7), and availability of role models (mean score, 2.7). Differences existed between men and women for child rearing, initiating personal relationships, maintaining personal relationships, maternity leave, and promotional advancement. Women were more concerned than men. CONCLUSIONS Assistance with career planning and job selection during the residency years should be enhanced to diminish the concerns about financial issues and the availability of role models after graduation. Many of the concerns among male and female graduates are still reflective of larger societal expectations, but some, such as promotional advancement, may be attenuated through guidance and mentoring of residents before job selection.

Abstract
Ovarian development, follicular growth and atresia require mechanisms regulating proliferation and death of ovarian cells including theca-interstitial (T-I) cells. Transforming growth factors-alpha and -beta (TGF-alpha and TGF-beta) are well recognized local modulators of T-I function. This study was performed to evaluate the effects of TGF-alpha and TGF-beta on ovarian T-I cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. T-I cells from immature Sprague-Dawley rats were purified and incubated in chemically defined media. Proliferation was assessed by [3H]thymidine incorporation assay and by cell counting. Steroidogenically active cells were identified histochemically by detection of 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3beta-HSD) activity. DNA was extracted and apoptosis was identified by detection of internucleosomal DNA cleavage producing the characteristic 'ladder pattern' of low-molecular weight (LMW) DNA following agarose gel electrophoresis. Quantification of apoptosis was carried out with the aid of 3'-end labeling of DNA fragments with [32P]-dideoxy-ATP. TGF-alpha and TGF-beta stimulated [3H]thymidine incorporation by 2.2- to 3.1-fold and 1.7- to 3.4-fold respectively (P<0.005). A combination of TGF-alpha and TGF-beta produced a synergistic increase in DNA synthesis by 6.7-fold (at 1 ng/ml of each TGF-alpha and TGF-beta; P<0.001) and tenfold (at 10 ng/ml of each TGF-alpha and TGF-beta; P<0.001). Cell counting revealed that TGF-alpha increased the total number of cells 2.8-fold and TGF-beta 2.8-fold. The combination of TGF-alpha and TGF-beta increased the total cell count 3.2-fold, compared with control (P<0.05). The percentage of the steroidogenically active cells was 37+/-9% (mean+/-s.e.m. ) in the control cultures, 50+/-5% in the presence of TGF-alpha, 42+/-8% in the presence of TGF-beta, and 47+/-13% in the presence of both TGF-alpha and TGF-beta. TGF-alpha decreased apoptosis by 63+/-14% (P=0.02) while TGF-beta had no statistically significant effect. TGF-alpha in combination with TGF-beta produced the greatest inhibition of apoptosis by 73+/-8% (P=0.01). These findings demonstrate that TGF-alpha and -beta stimulate proliferation of both steroidogenically active and inactive T-I cells. Furthermore, TGF-alpha alone and in combination with TGF-beta protects T-I cells from apoptotic death. These effects of TGFs may be important in physiologic maintenance of ovarian mesenchymal growth and homeostasis as well as in pathophysiologic conditions associated with excessive growth of the T-I compartment, such as polycystic ovary syndrome.

Abstract
Schistosomal cholecystitis is a rare entity with less than 10 cases described in the medical literature [1-3]. It is unclear whether schistosomal eggs deposited in the wall of the gallbladder trigger a clinically manifest acute cholecystitis, since most of the cases described were also found to have concomitant gallstones. Herein, we report a patient who developed acute schistosomal granulomatous acalculous cholecystitis. The clinical presentation, chronology of events and pathological findings strongly support the association between cholecystitis and schistosomal infection.

Abstract
To determine the feasibility and effectiveness of antidepressive treatments for post-stroke depression in elderly medical inpatients, MEDLINE was searched for potentially relevant articles published from January 1987 to August 1997 using the keywords "depression or depressive disorder" (exploded) and "aged." Thirteen reports met the following inclusion criteria: (1) published in English or French; (2) minimum age criterion of 55 and over or mean age 65 and over; (3) post-stroke subjects admitted to a medical, geriatric, or rehabilitation service; (4) used accepted criteria for depression; (5) examined treatment(s) for depression; and (6) reported outcomes as a depression diagnosis and/or symptom level. Data were abstracted independently from each article by two reviewers. The limited evidence suggests contraindications to treatment of 83% of a group to receive a heterocyclic antidepressant compared with 11% of a group to receive a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI); rates of discontinuation and study completion are similar for heterocyclics, SSRIs and psychostimulants. All of the treatments appear to be at least modestly effective in the short term.

Abstract
Cucumber vein yellowing virus (CVYV) is widespread in cucurbits in the Middle East. CVYV has filamentous particles and is transmitted by Bemisia tabaci by the semi-persistent mode. It has not yet been assigned to a specific genus or family. Ultramicroscopic observations revealed numerous cylindrical cytoplasmic inclusions in melon and cucumber cells infected by CVYV isolates from Israel and Jordan. Depending on the section orientation, the inclusions appeared as pinwheels or as bundles. In addition, a 1.9 kb DNA fragment was amplified by RT-PCR from CVYV-infected plant extracts using primers designed to detect all potyvirids. Sequence comparisons with the amplified fragment indicated that CVYV is more closely related to Sweet potato mild mottle virus than to any other virus in the family Potyviridae: These results suggest that CVYV can be considered as a tentative new member of the genus Ipomovirus:, family Potyviridae:

Abstract
Usher syndrome type 1 (USH1) is an autosomal recessive sensory defect involving congenital profound sensorineural deafness, vestibular dysfunction and blindness (due to progressive retinitis pigmentosa)1. Six different USH1 loci have been reported. So far, only MYO7A (USH1B), encoding myosin VIIA, has been identified as a gene whose mutation causes the disease. Here, we report a gene underlying USH1C (MIM 276904), a USH1 subtype described in a population of Acadian descendants from Louisiana and in a Lebanese family. We identified this gene (USH1C), encoding a PDZ-domain-containing protein, harmonin, in a subtracted mouse cDNA library derived from inner ear sensory areas. In patients we found a splice-site mutation, a frameshift mutation and the expansion of an intronic variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR). We showed that, in the mouse inner ear, only the sensory hair cells express harmonin. The inner ear Ush1c transcripts predicted several harmonin isoforms, some containing an additional coiled-coil domain and a proline- and serine-rich region. As several of these transcripts were absent from the eye, we propose that USH1C also underlies the DFNB18 form of isolated deafness.

Abstract
Numerous mutant G protein-coupled receptors with diminished or no function have been described that are naturally occurring or that are the product of gene manipulation. It has largely been assumed that receptor mutants do not affect the function of the wild-type receptor; however, the occurrence of G protein-coupled receptor dimerization suggests the possibility that an intermolecular interaction between mutant and wild-type receptors can occur. We have shown previously that the D2 dopamine receptor (D2DR) exists as dimers in cell lines and brain tissue. In this study, we demonstrated that mutant D2DR can modulate the function of the wild-type D2DR. While attempting to elucidate the structure of the D2DR dimer, we demonstrated that nonfunctional D2DR substitution and truncation mutants antagonized wild-type D2DR function. Furthermore, from analyses of this interaction between the receptor mutants and the D2DR, using photoaffinity labeling, we provide evidence that the D2DR is oligomeric in the cell.

Abstract
The recently discovered neuropeptide orphanin FQ (OFQ), and its opioid receptor-like (ORL1) receptor, exhibit structural features suggestive of the micro, kappa, and delta opioid systems. The anatomic distribution of OFQ immunoreactivity and mRNA expression has been reported recently. In the present analysis, we compare the distribution of orphanin receptor mRNA expression with that of orphanin FQ binding at the ORL1 receptor in the adult rat central nervous system (CNS). By using in vitro receptor autoradiography with (125)I-[(14)Tyr]-OFQ as the radioligand, orphanin receptor binding was analyzed throughout the rat CNS. Orphanin binding sites were densest in several cortical regions, the anterior olfactory nucleus, lateral septum, ventral forebrain, several hypothalamic nuclei, hippocampal formation, basolateral and medial amygdala, central gray, pontine nuclei, interpeduncular nucleus, substantia nigra, raphe complex, locus coeruleus, vestibular nuclear complex, and the spinal cord. By using in situ hybridization, cells expressing ORL1 mRNA were most numerous throughout multiple cortical regions, the anterior olfactory nucleus, lateral septum, endopiriform nucleus, ventral forebrain, multiple hypothalamic nuclei, nucleus of the lateral olfactory tract, medial amygdala, hippocampal formation, substantia nigra, ventral tegmental area, central gray, raphe complex, locus coeruleus, multiple brainstem motor nuclei, inferior olive, deep cerebellar nuclei, vestibular nuclear complex, nucleus of the solitary tract, reticular formation, dorsal root ganglia, and spinal cord. The diffuse distribution of ORL1 mRNA and binding supports an extensive role for orphanin FQ in a multitude of CNS functions, including motor and balance control, reinforcement and reward, nociception, the stress response, sexual behavior, aggression, and autonomic control of physiologic processes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the prognosis of depression in elderly community and primary care populations. METHOD MEDLINE and PsycINFO were searched for potentially relevant articles published from January 1981 to November 1996 and from January 1984 to November 1996, respectively. The bibliographies of relevant articles were searched for additional references. Twelve studies met the following five inclusion criteria: original research, published in English or French, study population of community residents or primary care patients, subjects' mean age 60 years and over, and reported affective state as an outcome. The validity of the studies was assessed according to the criteria for prognostic studies described by the Evidence-Based Medicine Working Group. Information about the population, proportion of depressed subjects detected and treated by primary care physicians, length of follow-up, outcomes, and prognostic factors was systematically abstracted from each report. RESULTS All of the studies had some methodologic limitations. A meta-analysis of outcomes at 24 months estimated that 33% of subjects were well, 33% were depressed, and 21% had died. There was statistically significant heterogeneity in the outcomes across studies. The length of follow-up and lower age limit for enrollment explained part of the heterogeneity for the percent well but not for the other outcomes. Physical illness, disability, cognitive impairment, and more severe depression were associated with worse outcomes but inconsistently so. CONCLUSIONS Depression in elderly community and primary care populations has a poor prognosis, is perhaps chronic or relapsing or both, and is probably undertreated. Despite the methodologic limitations of the studies and this meta-analysis, these findings seem to support efforts to develop detection and treatment programs for depression in these populations.

Abstract
The parabrachial nucleus (PB) is a major relay of noxious and non-noxious visceral sensory information from the nucleus of the solitary tract, spinal cord, and spinal trigeminal nucleus to the forebrain. The nucleus of the solitary tract, spinal cord, and trigeminal dorsal horns contain many enkephalin- and dynorphin-immunoreactive neurons that project to the PB. To study the role of mu-opioid receptors in relaying these inputs, we examined the distribution of mu-opioid receptor immunoreactivity in the PB. The most intense staining was in the external lateral parabrachial subnucleus (PBel), including dendrites extending from the PBel into the lateral crescent subnucleus. Because the Pbel is a major source of projections to the amygdala, we combined retrograde tracing from the central nucleus of the amygdala with immunohistochemistry for mu-opioid receptors. These experiments showed that mu-opioid receptors are expressed by Pbel neurons that project to the amygdala, including those Pbel neurons whose dendrites extend into the lateral crescent subnucleus. These results indicate that mu-opioid receptors in the PB may mediate or modulate nociceptive information relayed to the amygdala from medullary or spinal cord neurons that terminate not only in the Pbel, but also in the adjacent lateral crescent parabrachial subnucleus.

Abstract
Orphanin FQ (OFQ) is the endogenous agonist of the opioid receptor-like receptor (ORL-1). It and its precursor, prepro-OFQ, exhibit structural features suggestive of the opioid peptides. A cDNA encoding the OFQ precursor sequence in the rat recently has been cloned, and the authors recently generated a polyclonal antibody directed against the OFQ peptide. In the present study, the authors used in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry to examine the distribution of OFQ peptide and mRNA in the central nervous system of the adult rat. OFQ immunoreactivity and prepro-OFQ mRNA expression correlated virtually in all brain areas studied. In the forebrain, OFQ peptide and mRNA were prominent in the neocortex endopiriform nucleus, claustrum, lateral septum, ventral forebrain, hypothalamus, mammillary bodies, central and medial nuclei of the amygdala, hippocampal formation, paratenial and reticular nuclei of the thalamus, medial habenula, and zona incerta. No OFQ was observed in the pineal or pituitary glands. In the brainstem, OFQ was prominent in the ventral tegmental area, substantia nigra, nucleus of the posterior commissure, central gray, nucleus of Darkschewitsch, peripeduncular nucleus, interpeduncular nucleus, tegmental nuclei, locus coeruleus, raphe complex, lateral parabrachial nucleus, inferior olivary complex, vestibular nuclear complex, prepositus hypoglossus, solitary nucleus, nucleus ambiguous, caudal spinal trigeminal nucleus, and reticular formation. In the spinal cord, OFQ was observed throughout the dorsal and ventral horns. The wide distribution of this peptide provides support for its role in a multitude of functions, including not only nociception but also motor and balance control, special sensory processing, and various autonomic and physiologic processes.

Abstract
A C6 glioma cell line stably transfected with the human kappa opioid receptor (kappaOR) was used to characterize receptor binding and G protein activation via the kappaOR by a comprehensive series of opioid ligands. The ligand-binding affinity for [3H]5alpha,7alpha, 8beta(-)-N-methyl-N-(7-Cl-pyrrolidinyl)-1-oxaspiro(4, 5)dec-8-yl)benzene acetamide (U69593) was similar to that observed in monkey brain membranes and was 10-fold lower in the presence of sodium and GDP. Both peptide and nonpeptide agonists maximally stimulated [35S]GTPgammaS binding. The stimulation of [35S]GTPgammaS binding was blocked by pretreatment of cells with pertussis toxin. Partial stimulation of [35S]GTPgammaS binding via the kappaOR was observed for several ligands that are antagonists at the mu opioid receptor, suggesting an additional mechanism of drug action. The ability of isomers of tifluadom and levallorphan to stimulate [35S]GTPgammaS binding indicates that the chiral carbon of levallorphan, a benzomorphan derivative, imparts a greater degree of stereoselectivity than does the chiral carbon in the benzodiazepine derivative tifluadom. In addition, (-)tifluadom, the less potent isomer of tifluadom, which is also a gamma-aminobutyric acidA receptor agonist, stimulated [35S]GTPgammaS binding. In contrast, d-pentazocine, (+)SKF10047, (+)cyclazocine, and d-ethylketocyclazocine displayed no agonist activity. kappaOR-selective antagonist norbinaltorphimine competitively inhibited the stimulation of [35S]GTPgammaS binding by the active isomers of ethylketocyclazocine, cyclazocine, and nalorphine to the same degree, indicating that all three ligands are eliciting an effect via the kappaOR. The results suggest that these cells express a homogeneous population of kappaOR, and that their [35S]GTPgammaS-binding properties make them an excellent means to assess kappaOR efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Feeding a high cholesterol diet to dogs causes a reduction in gallbladder smooth muscle contractility with a consequent stasis. Gallbladder stasis is an important link between the hepatic secretion of cholesterol saturated bile and the formation of cholesterol gallstones. METHODOLOGY In this study we tried to localize the probable site of gallbladder smooth muscle dysfunction in a well established animal model of cholesterol gallstone disease. Adult male dogs were fed either a high or low cholesterol diet (control group). Strips of gallbladder smooth muscle for tension development were stimulated with two groups of agonists and dose response curves were plotted for all agonists used. RESULTS The forces developed in response to the first group of agonists, the cell membrane-active agonists, e.g. acetylcholine, cholecystokinin, and potassium chloride were decreased in high cholesterol fed dogs with an increased cholesterol saturation of bile when compared to the control group. On the other hand, the contractile response showed non-significant differences between the test and the control group on using the second group of agonists that bypass the intact sarcolemmal membrane and stimulate directly either the contractile mechanism, e.g. barium, or the intracellular signal transduction pathways e.g. aluminum fluoride. CONCLUSION We conclude that the smooth muscle defect responsible for disordered gallbladder contractility in high cholesterol fed dogs most probably involves the sarcolemmal membrane.

Abstract
Usher syndrome (USH) is an autosomal-recessive disease characterized by neurosensory deafness and progressive retinitis pigmentosa. So far, three clinical types of Usher syndrome have been defined, and are caused by defects at more than eight loci. We report the linkage analysis of seven Lebanese families with Usher syndrome, two with type I (USH1) and five with type II (USH2). We demonstrate that one family is linked to the USH1C locus, a rare form of USH1 only reported in the French Acadian population. Linkage analysis of the five USH2 families with recently mapped loci allowed us to reduce the USH2A candidate region to a very small interval flanked by D1S2646/D1S2629 and D1S2827. Furthermore, haplotype comparison between the different families suggests a founder effect for the USH2A mutation among the different Lebanese ethnic groups, while a genetic heterogeneity is noted for Usher syndrome type I.

Abstract
Prolonged hyperglycemia results in a number of diabetic complications, including retinopathy. Pericyte degeneration is one of the earliest histological changes observed in the development of diabetic retinopathy. Increased free radicals generated under hyperglycemia could damage the retina, which abounds in polyunsaturated fatty acids. In the current study, a severalfold increase in thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances was found in rat retina cultured in hyperglycemic medium, which decreased significantly when trolox, an amphipathic antioxidant, was included in the medium. To examine the contribution of oxidative stress in vivo, diabetic rats were fed trolox (0.4% in the diet) during the course of the experiments. After 5 mo of hyperglycemia, whole mounts of retinal vessels were prepared and endothelial cells (E) and pericytes (P) were counted. The ratio of E/P in the retinas obtained from normal rats, diabetic rats, and diabetic rats fed trolox were 1.74 +/- 0.186, 3.78 +/- 0.47, and 2.32 +/- 0.24, respectively. A significant restoration of pericytes by trolox suggests the involvement of oxidative injury during pericyte loss in diabetic retinopathy.

Abstract
The ability of endogenous opioids to activate G proteins was measured in membranes from C6 rat glioma cells stably expressing a cloned rat mu receptor. Peptides representing each of the three known families of endogenous opioids (enkephalins, endorphins and dynorphins) were studied, as well as two recently discovered endogenous opioids, endomorphin-1 and -2, which are thought to represent a fourth family of endogenous opioid peptides. Stimulation of guanosine-5'-O-(3-[35S]thio)triphosphate ([35S]GTP gamma S) binding to membranes was used as a measure of G protein activation. It was possible to differentiate high efficacy compounds such as Tyr-D-Ala-Gly-(Me)Phe-Gly-ol from lower-efficacy agonists such as morphine or meperidine. Met- and leu-enkephalin, beta endorphin and dynorphin A were all found to have high efficacy at the mu receptor, as were the peptide fragments beta endorphin-1(1-27) and dynorphin A-(1-13). Endomorphin-1 and -2 were found to be partial agonists, capable of both stimulating [35S]GTP gamma S binding and antagonizing the stimulation produced by the higher-efficacy agonist Tyr-D-Ala-Gly-(Me)Phe-Gly-ol. Binding affinities for the opioid agonists at the cloned mu receptor were measured by the displacement of radiolabeled antagonist. It was found that the Ki values closely matched the EC50 values for [35S]GTP gamma S binding stimulation, indicating that a large receptor reserve does not exist for the complete activation of G proteins in this system.

Abstract
The periaqueductal gray (PAG) and rostral ventromedial medulla (RVM) are important brain stem pain modulating regions. Recent evidence suggests that kappa opioids antagonize the effects of mu opioids in the RVM. However, the anatomical relationship between mu and kappa opioid receptors in PAG and RVM is not well characterized. This study examined relationships between mu and kappa opioid receptor immunoreactivity (IR) and mRNA in PAG and RVM. Brain slices were processed for either immunocytochemistry or in situ hybridization. We found considerable anatomical overlap of mu and kappa opioid IR and mRNA in the RVM and PAG. These results provide an anatomical basis for recent behavioral and electrophysiological findings in RVM, and suggest modulatory interactions between mu and kappa opioids in PAG.

Abstract
A series of opioid ligands utilizing the 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) fluorophores 4,4-difluoro-5,7-dimethyl-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene++ +-3-propionic acid or 4,4-difluoro-5-(4-phenyl-1,3-butadienyl)-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza- s-indacene-3-propionic acid were synthesized and characterized for their ability to act as a suitable fluorescent label for the mu opioid receptor. All compounds displaced the mu opioid receptor binding of [3H]Tyr-D-Ala-Gly-(Me)Phe-Gly-ol in monkey brain membranes with high affinity. The binding of fluorescent ligands to delta and kappa receptors was highly variable. 5,7-Dimethyl-BODIPY naltrexamine, "6-BNX," displayed subnanomolar affinities for the mu and kappa opioid receptors (Ki 0.07 and 0.43 nM, respectively) and nanomolar affinity at the delta (Ki 1.4 nM) receptor. Using fluorescence spectroscopy, the binding of 6-BNX in membranes from C6 glioma cells transfected with the cloned mu opioid receptor was investigated. In these membranes containing a high receptor density (10-80 pmol/mg protein), 6-BNX labeling was saturable, mu opioid specific, stereoselective (as determined with the isomers dextrorphan and levorphanol), and more than 90% specific. The results describe a series of newly developed fluorescent ligands for the mu opioid receptor and the use of one of these ligands as a label for the cloned mu receptor. These ligands provide a new approach for studying the structural and biophysical nature of opioid receptors.
