Abstract
Here, the aim was to evaluate the protective effect of Lactobacillus plantarum-derived postbiotics, i.e., LP-cs, on acute alcoholic liver injury (ALI). After preincubation with LP-cs, HL7702 human hepatocytes were treated with alcohol, and then the cell survival rate was measured. C57BL/6 male mice were presupplemented with or without LP-cs and LP-cs-loaded calcium alginate hydrogel (LP-cs-Gel) for 3 weeks and given 50% alcohol gavage to establish the mouse model of ALI, LP-cs presupplementation, and LP-cs-Gel presupplementation. The histomorphology of the liver and intestines; the levels of serum AST, ALT, lipid, and SOD activity; liver transcriptomics; and the metagenome of intestinal microbiota were detected in all mouse models. In vitro, LP-cs significantly increased the survival rate of alcohol-treated cells. In vivo, presupplementation with LP-cs and LP-cs-Gel restored the levels of serum AST, ALT, and SOD activity, as well as TC and TG, after acute alcohol intake. In the LP-cs-presupplemented mice, the genes involved in fatty acid metabolic processes were upregulated and the genes involved in steroid biosynthesis were downregulated significantly as compared with the ALI mice. LP-cs significantly increased the abundance of intestinal microbiota, especially Akkermansia muciniphila. In conclusion, LP-cs ameliorates ALI by protecting hepatocytes against oxidative damage, thereby, improving lipid metabolism and regulating the intestinal microbiota. The effect of LP-cs-Gel is similar to that of LP-cs.

Abstract
Epothilones are a kind of 16-member macrolides with strong anticancer activity, which was produced by Sorangium cellulosum. Epothlione D shows better drug resistance and safety than taxol in clinical trials. However, the low yield of epothilone D in Sorangium cellulosum and thereof toxicity limited the application of epothilone D. In this study, the epoK gene in gene cluster for epothilone was firstly inactivated by the employment of TALEN gene knockout system. The qRT-PCR analysis and sequencing were performed to confirm the gene deletion of epoK, resulting in the epothilone D yield improvement by 34.9±1.6% and the decrease of epothilone B yield by 34.2±2.5%, which was demonstrated by LC-MS analysis. This study would lay a foundation for the yield improvement of epothilones D, B and thereof derivatives in S. cellulosum by genetic engineering, thus promoting the applications of epothilones in the field of anticancer.

Abstract
Resveratrol (RES) has been found to have immunological enhancement effects on Oreochromis niloticus. In O. nilocticus, the liver, spleen and kidney act as immune target tissues, while intestine works for nutrition sensing organ. In the present study, we determined RES administration on these immune tissues transcriptomic response in genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT), and further analyzed the relationship between transcriptomic response and intestinal microbiota. As results, hepatic hemosiderin and intestinal goblet cells significantly increased with RES addition. Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathways associated with herpes simplex virus 1 infection, calcium signaling pathway, cell adhesion molecules, apoptosis, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/peroxisome proliferators-activated receptors (PPAR) signaling pathways were enriched. In particular, the differentially enriched genes (DEGs) associated pathways were present in different sampling tissues, times, and comparisons, interestingly, the PPAR signaling pathway was enriched with increasing time of RES addition. The assembled DEGs presented verified expression in the kidney, liver, spleen, and intestine tissues, and fabp6 was highly expressed in the intestine. Serial DEGs of fatty acid-binding proteins (fabp7, fabp7a, fabp10a) decreased in the liver and kidney, and fabp6 significantly increased in the spleen. With time, the pathways of energy metabolism, glycan biosynthesis, and metabolism decreased and increased in the intestinal metagenome. Some Candidatus branches significantly increased (C. cerribacteria and C. harrisonbacteria) and while others decreased (C. glodbacteria, etc.), whereas C. verstraetearchaeota fluctuated with RES addition. slc27a6 and dbi were negatively correlated with bacteria involved in the lipid, energy, and carbohydrate metabolism pathways. The present study suggests that RES supplementation affected lipid metabolism in immune-related organs may be related to the PPAR signaling pathway.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the demographic and anatomic characteristics, as well as perioperative and follow-up results of fenestration and parallel techniques for the endovascular repair of complex aortic diseases. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 67 consecutive patients underwent endovascular treatment for complex aortic diseases including abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), thoracoabdominal aneurysm (TAAA), aortic dissection, or prior endovascular repair with either fenestrated and parallel endovascular aortic repair (f-EVAR or ch-EVAR) at a single institute from 2013 to 2021. Choices of intervention were made by the disease' emergency, patients' general condition, the anatomic characteristics, as well as following the recommendation from the devices' guidelines. Patients' clinical demographics, aortic disease characteristics, perioperative details, and disease courses were discussed. Short- and mid-term follow-up results were obtained and analyzed. Endpoints were aneurysm-related and unrelated mortality, branch instability, and renal function deterioration. RESULTS Totally, 34 and 27 patients received f-EVAR and ch-EVAR, while 6 patients received a combination of both. Fenestrated endovascular aortic repair was conducted mainly in AAA affecting visceral branches and TAAA, whereas ch-EVAR was normally utilized for infrarenal AAA. Regarding the average number of reconstructed arteries per patient, there was a significant difference among f-EVAR, ch-EVAR, and the combination group (mean = 2.3 ± 0.9, 1.4 ± 0.6, 3.5 ± 0.5, p<0.001). Primary technical success was achieved in 28 (82.4%), 22 (81.5%), and 3 (50.0%) patients for each group. Besides operational time (5.77 ± 2.58, 4.47 ± 1.44, p=0.033), no significant difference was observed for blood transfusion, intensive care unit (ICU) or hospital stay, blood creatinine level, 30-day complications, or follow-up complications between patients undergoing f-EVAR or ch-EVAR. Patients receiving combination of both techniques had a higher rate of blood transfusion (p=0.044), longer operational time (p=0.008) or hospital stay (p=0.017), as well as more stent occlusion (p=0.001), endoleak (p=0.004) at short-term and a higher rate of endoleak (p=0.023) at mid-term follow-up. CONCLUSION In conclusion, this study demonstrated that f-EVAR and ch-EVAR techniques had acceptable perioperative and follow-up results and should be considered viable alternatives when encountering complex aortic diseases. CLINICAL IMPACT This study sought to investigate the baseline and pathological characteristics, as well as perioperative and follow-up results of f-EVAR and ch-EVAR at a single Chinese institution. F-EVAR (mostly physician-modified f-EVAR) was applied in patients with a wide range of etiologies and disease types, while ch-EVAR was preferred for AAA in older patients with an average higher ASA grade. Our experience suggested acceptable safety and efficacy both for techniques, and no significant difference was observed between the two groups regarding any short or mid-term adverse events.

Abstract
Here, the aim was to investigate the role of circulating oxidized mitochondrial DNA (ox-mtDNA) in metabolic syndrome (MetS)-associated chronic inflammation and evaluate the effect of Mito-Quinone (MitoQ)-based antioxidant therapy on inflammation. A total of 112 MetS patients and 111 healthy control individuals (HCs) were recruited. Peripheral blood was collected, and mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were separated. In a preclinical study, MitoQ, a mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant, was administered to Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats fed a high-fat diet (HFD). In vitro, H2O2- or MitoQ-treated HUVECs served as the oxidative or antioxidative cell models to detect the cell-free ox-mtDNA level. Plasma or cell-free ox-mtDNA levels were measured by qPCR. Additionally, THP-1 cells were incubated with plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from MetS patients and HCs or cell-free ox-mtDNA to detect TLR9-NF-κB pathway activation. Plasma ox-mtDNA levels and TLR9 expression levels in PBMCs were increased in MetS patients. In vivo, HFD-fed rats showed elevated plasma ox-mtDNA and TLR9 expression levels in cardiac-residing immune cells, but MitoQ administration attenuated these increases. In vitro, a significant lower level of cell-free ox-mtDNA was detected in MitoQ-treated cells, compared with H2O2-treated cells. Coincubation of plasma cfDNA from MetS patients or cell-free ox-mtDNA and THP-1 cells increased TLR9-NF-κB p65 expression, and promoted IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-8 secretion in THP-1 cells. In conclusion, increased circulating ox-mtDNA contributes to chronic inflammation in MetS by activating the TLR9-NF-κB pathway. MitoQ-based antioxidant therapy effectively alleviates inflammation by reducing ox-mtDNA release.

Abstract
Effective antiviral therapy can significantly improve the long-term prognosis of HBV-related decompensated patients, and re-compensation may be achieved in part of the patients. To explore the re-compensation of ascites after HBV suppression and the risk factors, the clinical outcomes of 196 consecutive patients with HBV-related first decompensated cirrhosis of ascites treated with nucleos(t)ide analogue (NUC) were analyzed retrospectively. Among these patients, the median serum HBV DNA level was 5.0 (IQR, 3.0-6.0) log10 IU/mL before treatment. Most patients were given NUC with high barrier to resistance including ETV (152), TDF (1) and TAF (1). Initial combination of LAM plus ADV and LdT plus ADV was used in 41 patients and 1 patients, respectively. After NUC treatment, the percentage of patients with ascites regression was 77.6%, 81.4%, 70.5%, 93.8%, 80.8% at 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 months, respectively (P<0.001). The distribution of ascites severity showed that the patients' ascites improved, with the proportion of no ascites and mild ascites gradually increased. The proportion of re-compensation of ascites defined as negative HBV DNA, improved liver function and ascites regression (off diuretics) was 59.7%, 70.0%, 52.3%, 59.4%, 46.2% at 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 months (P<0.001). The rate of ascites regression was higher in viral response (VR) cohort when compared with that in non-VR cohort. Univariate and multivariable analysis showed that level of serum ALT (OR:0.988, 95%CI, p=0.029) and load of serum HBV DNA (OR:0.78895%CI, p=0.044) at baseline were risk factors of re-compensation of ascites. This study demonstrated that antiviral therapy could reverse decompensation of ascites in HBV-related first decompensated cirrhosis and the level of ALT and HBV DNA were risk factors of ascites re-compensation.

Abstract
Background The Shanghai COVID-19 epidemic is an important example of a local outbreak and of the implementation of normalized prevention and disease control strategies. The precise impact of public health interventions on epidemic prevention and control is unknown. Methods We collected information on COVID-19 patients reported in Shanghai, China, from January 30 to May 31, 2022. These newly added cases were classified as local confirmed cases, local asymptomatic infections, imported confirmed cases and imported asymptomatic infections. We used polynomial fitting correlation analysis and illustrated the time lag plot in the correlation analysis of local and imported cases. Analyzing the conversion of asymptomatic infections to confirmed cases, we proposed a new measure of the conversion rate (C r ). In the evolution of epidemic transmission and the analysis of intervention effects, we calculated the effective reproduction number (R t ). Additionally, we used simulated predictions of public health interventions in transmission, correlation, and conversion analyses. Results (1) The overall level of R t in the first three stages was higher than the epidemic threshold. After the implementation of public health intervention measures in the third stage, R t decreased rapidly, and the overall R t level in the last three stages was lower than the epidemic threshold. The longer the public health interventions were delayed, the more cases that were expected and the later the epidemic was expected to end. (2) In the correlation analysis, the outbreak in Shanghai was characterized by double peaks. (3) In the conversion analysis, when the incubation period was short (3 or 7 days), the conversion rate fluctuated smoothly and did not reflect the effect of the intervention. When the incubation period was extended (10 and 14 days), the conversion rate fluctuated in each period, being higher in the first five stages and lower in the sixth stage. Conclusion Effective public health interventions helped slow the spread of COVID-19 in Shanghai, shorten the outbreak duration, and protect the healthcare system from stress. Our research can serve as a positive guideline for addressing infectious disease prevention and control in China and other countries and regions.

Abstract
Transport is essential in cross-regional culturing of juvenile fish. Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) often exhibit decreased vitality and are susceptible to disease after transportation. To study the effects of transport stress on juvenile largemouth bass, juveniles (average length: 8.42 ± 0.44 cm, average weight 10.26 ± 0.32 g) were subjected to a 12 h simulated transport, then subsequently, allowed to recover for 5 d. Liver and intestinal tissues were collected at 0, 6 and 12 h after transport stress and after 5 d of recovery. Oxidative and immunological parameters and the gut microbiome were analyzed. Hepatocytic vacuolization and shortened intestinal villi in the bass indicated liver and intestinal damage due to transport stress. Superoxide dismutase, lysozyme and complement C3 activities were significantly increased during transport stress (p < 0.05), indicating that transport stress resulted in oxidative stress and altered innate immune responses in the bass. With the transport stress, the malondialdehyde content first increased, then significantly decreased (p < 0.05) and showed an increasing trend in the recovery group. 16S rDNA analysis revealed that transport stress strongly affected the gut microbial compositions, mainly among Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Cyanobacteria and Spirochaetes. The Proteobacteria abundance increased significantly after transport. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes functional analysis revealed that most gut microbes played roles in membrane transport, cell replication and repair. Correlation analyses demonstrated that the dominant genera varied significantly and participated in the measured physiological parameter changes. With 5 days of recovery after 12 h of transport stress, the physiological parameters and gut microbiome differed significantly between the experimental and control groups. These results provide a reference and basis for studying transport-stress-induced oxidative and immune mechanisms in juvenile largemouth bass to help optimize juvenile largemouth bass transportation.

Abstract
BACKGROUD Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is 1 of the common malignancy with a poor prognosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on bioinformatics, the fatty acid metabolism model of LUAD was developed. We downloaded LUAD transcriptome data from the cancer genome atlas and gene expression omnibus databases. We used bioinformatics methods to construct a fatty acid metabolism-related predictive risk model to predict the prognosis of LUAD. We further explored the relationship between prognostic models and survival and immunity. RESULTS We identified 17 prognosis-related fatty acid-associated genes and constructed prognostic models. In the the cancer genome atlas cohort, the prognosis was worse in the high-risk score group compared to the low-risk score group. The ROC curve confirmed its accuracy. Subsequently, we used the gene expression omnibus database to confirm the above findings. There were differences in immune infiltrating cell abundance and immune function between the high-risk score group and low-risk score group. The immune dysfunction and exclusion (TIDE) based algorithm showed that the low-risk score group was more suitable for the immune treatment. CONCLUSION Fatty acid metabolic patterns can deepen the understanding of the immune microenvironment of LUAD and be used to guide the formulation of immunotherapy protocols.

Abstract
Objective To explore the results of hypertension improvement and renal function preservation after renal artery aneurysm (RAA) repair. Methods This study retrospectively analyzed the change in blood pressure (BP) and renal outcomes of 59 RAA patients throughout either open or endovascular operations and follow-up at a large center. Patients were grouped according to the difference in their BP at the last follow-up vs. their baseline value. Logistic regression was conducted to explore risk factors for perioperative BP relief and long-term hypertension reonset. Previous studies of RAA with records of BP, blood creatinine level, or GFR/eGFR results are reviewed. Results Hypertension was observed in 62.7% (37/59) of the patients included. Postoperative BP declined from 132.20 ± 16.46/79.92 ± 9.64 mmHg to 122.41 ± 11.17/71.10 ± 9.82 mmHg, while eGFR changed from 108.17 ± 24.73 to 98.92 ± 23.87 ml/min/1.73 m2. The median follow-up was 854 [IQR: 1,405] days. Both open and endovascular techniques significantly relieved hypertension and did not impair renal function much. Lower preoperative systolic BP (SBP) was significantly associated with hypertension relief (OR = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.70-0.99). Among patients with normal BP after the operation, higher postoperative SBP was significantly associated with new-onset hypertension (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.01-1.29). Literature review indicated that renal function usually remained normal at follow-up, whereas relief of hypertension varied. Conclusion Patients with lower preoperative SBP were likely to benefit more from the operation, while higher postoperative SBP indicated a higher chance of hypertension reonset. Creatinine level and eGFR generally remained stable regardless of operation type.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The goal of this study was to establish an optimized metabolic panel by combining serum and urine biomarkers that could reflect the malignancy of cancer tissues to improve the non-invasive diagnosis of esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC). METHODS Urine and serum specimens representing the healthy and ESCC individuals, together with the paralleled ESCC cancer tissues and corresponding distant non-cancerous tissues were investigated in this study using the high-resolution 600 MHz 1H-NMR technique. RESULTS We identified distinct 1H NMR-based serum and urine metabolic signatures respectively, which were linked to the metabolic profiles of esophageal-cancerous tissues. Creatine and glycine in both serum and urine were selected as the optimal biofluids biomarker panel for ESCC detection, as they were the overlapping discriminative metabolites across serum, urine and cancer tissues in ESCC patients. Also, the were the major metabolites involved in the perturbation of "glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism", the significant pathway alteration associated with ESCC progression. Then a visual predictive nomogram was constructed by combining creatine and glycine in both serum and urine, which exhibited superior diagnostic efficiency (with an AUC of 0.930) than any diagnostic model constructed by a single urine or serum metabolic biomarkers. DISCUSSION Overall, this study highlighted that NMR-based biofluids metabolomics fingerprinting, as a non-invasive predictor, has the potential utility for ESCC detection. Further studies based on a lager number size and in combination with other omics or molecular biological approaches are needed to validate the metabolic pathway disturbances in ESCC patients.

Abstract
COVID-19 and its impact on society have raised concerns about scaling up mechanical ventilation (MV) systems and the energy consequences. This paper attempted to combine MV and portable air cleaners (PACs) to achieve acceptable indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy reduction in two scenarios: regular operation and mitigating the spread of respiratory infectious diseases (RIDs). We proposed a multi-objective optimization method that combined the NSGA-II and TOPSIS techniques to determine the total equivalent ventilation rate of the MV-PAC system in both scenarios. The concentrations of PM2.5 and CO2 were primary indicators for IAQ. The modified Wells-Riley equation was adopted to predict RID transmissions. An open office with an MV-PAC system was used to demonstrate the method's applicability. Meanwhile, a field study was conducted to validate the method and evaluate occupants' perceptions of the MV-PAC system. Results showed that optimal solutions of the combined system can be obtained based on various IAQ requirements, seasons, outdoor conditions, etc. For regular operation, PACs were generally prioritized to maintain IAQ while reducing energy consumption even when outdoor PM2.5 concentration was high. MV can remain constant or be reduced at low occupancies. In RID scenarios, it is possible to mitigate transmissions when the quanta were < 48 h-1. No significant difference was found in the subjective perception of the MV and PACs. Moreover, the effects of infiltration on the optimal solution can be substantial. Nonetheless, our results suggested that an MV-PAC system can replace the MV system for offices for daily use and RID mitigation. Abstract
Background The issue of whether a stroke is causally related to gastrointestinal disorders was still not satisfactorily understood. Therefore, we investigated if there is a connection between stroke and the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorders, including peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Methods We applied two-sample Mendelian randomization to investigate relationships with gastrointestinal disorders. We obtained genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data of any stroke, ischemic stroke, and its subtypes from the MEGASTROKE consortium. From the International Stroke Genetics Consortium (ISGC) meta-analysis, we acquired GWAS summary information on intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), including all ICH, deep ICH, and lobar ICH. Several sensitivity studies were performed to identify heterogeneity and pleiotropy, while inverse-variance weighted (IVW) was utilized as the most dominant estimate. Results No evidence for an effect of genetic predisposition to ischemic stroke and its subtypes on gastrointestinal disorders were found in IVW. The complications of deep ICH are a higher risk for PUD and GERD. Meanwhile, lobar ICH has a higher risk of complications for PUD. Conclusion This study provides proof of the presence of a brain-gut axis. Among the complications of ICH, PUD and GERD were more common and associated with the site of hemorrhage.

Abstract
Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) can cause severe hemorrhagic fever in humans and is mainly transmitted by ticks. There is no effective vaccine for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) at present. We developed three DNA vaccines encoding CCHFV nucleocapsid protein (NP), glycoprotein N-terminal (Gn) and C-terminal (Gc) fused with lysosome-associated membrane protein 1 (LAMP1) and assessed their immunogenicity and protective efficacy in a human MHC (HLA-A11/DR1) transgenic mouse model. The mice that were vaccinated three times with pVAX-LAMP1-CCHFV-NP induced balanced Th1 and Th2 responses and could most effectively protect mice from CCHFV transcription and entry-competent virus-like particles (tecVLPs) infection. The mice vaccinated with pVAX-LAMP1-CCHFV-Gc mainly elicited specific anti-Gc and neutralizing antibodies and provided a certain protection from CCHFV tecVLPs infection, but the protective efficacy was less than that of pVAX-LAMP1-CCHFV-NP. The mice vaccinated with pVAX-LAMP1-CCHFV-Gn only elicited specific anti-Gn antibodies and could not provide sufficient protection from CCHFV tecVLPs infection. These results suggest that pVAX-LAMP1-CCHFV-NP would be a potential and powerful candidate vaccine for CCHFV.

Abstract
Dendrobium officinale (D. officinale) has remarkable medicinal functions and high economic value. The shade-avoidance response to far-red light importantly affects the D. officinale productivity. However, the regulatory mechanism of miRNAs involved in the far-red light-avoidance response is unknown. Previous studies have found that, in D. officinale, 730 nm (far-red) light can promote the accumulation of plant metabolites, increase leaf area, and accelerate stem elongation. Here, the effects of far-red light on D. officinale were analysed via RNA-seq. KEGG analysis of miRNA target genes revealed various far-red light response pathways, among which the following played central roles: the one-carbon pool by folate; ascorbate and aldarate; cutin, suberine and wax biosynthesis; and sulfur metabolism. Cytoscape analysis of DE miRNA targets showed that novel_miR_484 and novel_miR_36 were most likely involved in the effects of far-red light on the D. officinale shade avoidance. Content verification revealed that far-red light promotes the accumulation of one-carbon compounds and ascorbic acid. Combined with qPCR validation results, the results showed that miR395b, novel_miR_36, novel_miR_159, novel_miR_178, novel_miR_405, and novel_miR_435 may participate in the far-red light signalling network through target genes, regulating the D. officinale shade avoidance. These findings provide new ideas for the efficient production of D. officinale.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate depression and anxiety and related factors among patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). METHODS This cross-sectional study included patients underwent MHD in 3/2022 at Jinshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University. Depression and anxiety levels of patients were assessed using Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), respectively. SF-36 was used to assess patients' quality of life. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the variables associated with the scores of BDI/BAI. RESULTS A total of 103 patients were included, 71 cases (68.93%) and 38 cases (36.89%) with depression and anxiety, respectively. The scores of almost all domains of the SF-36 showed a declining trend with increasing depression or anxiety among patients on MHD. Higher Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) (β =0.066, 95%CI: 0.016-0.116, P = 0.010), lower educational status (β = - 0.139, 95%CI: - 0.243- -0.036, P = 0.009), and number of oral medications (β =0.177, 95%CI: 0.031-0.324, P = 0.018) were significantly associated with higher BDI scores. Longer dialysis duration (β =0.098, 95%CI: 0.003-0.193, P = 0.044) and number of oral medications (β =4.714, 95%CI: 1.837-7.590, P = 0.002) were significantly associated with higher BAI scores. CONCLUSIONS Depression and anxiety may be likely to occur among patients undergoing MHD and impact their quality of life. Higher CCI, lower educational status and usage of multiple oral medications may be associated with depression, whereas longer dialysis duration and multiple oral medications may be associated with anxiety in MHD patients.

Abstract
Electrochemically converting nitrate ions back to ammonia can not only eliminate water pollution but also obtain valuable ammonia without a serious carbon footprint, and is thus deemed as an efficient supplement to the traditional Haber-Bosch process. Currently reported catalysts can achieve a single electrode reaction in the electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction. However, the bifunctionality of a single catalyst for both cathodic and anodic reactions has not yet been reported. Herein, we report Fe-doped layered α-Ni(OH)2 with expanded interlayer spacing as an efficient bifunctional catalyst for the nitrate reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction. The expanded interlayer spacing facilitates in situ electrochemical potassium ion intercalation between layers. In situ Raman spectroscopy characterization confirms that both the nitrate reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction are confined between layers and are triggered by the accumulation of potassium ions. The obtained α-Ni0.881Fe0.119(OH)2 nanosheets deliver an ammonia yield rate of 8.1 mol gcat.-1 h-1 with a NO3--to-NH3 faradaic efficiency of 97.5% at the cathode. The overpotential of oxygen generation at 10 mA cm-2 is reduced to 254 mV at the anode. As a bifunctional catalyst in overall electrolysis, the current density of α-Ni0.881Fe0.119(OH)2 reaches 24.8 mA cm-2 at a voltage of 2.0 V and performs continuously for 50 h with a current retention of 80.2%.

Abstract
Mo-Si-B alloys have attracted considerable research interest during the last several decades due to their high melting points, excellent high-temperature strength and relatively good oxidation resistance. However, insufficient room-temperature fracture toughness and high-temperature oxidation resistance restrain their further application. Generally, a sufficient volume fraction of BCC-Mo solid-solution phase, providing the ductility, and a high Si content, responsible for the formation of passive oxide scales, is difficult to achieve simultaneously in this ternary system. Recently, macroalloying of Ti has been proposed to establish a novel phase equilibrium with a combination of enough BCC phase and intermetallic compounds that contain a large amount of Si. In this article, the development history from the ternary Mo-Si-B to the quaternary Mo-Ti-Si-B system was reviewed. It was found that the constitution phases could be easily tailored by changing the Ti content. In this regard, better performance of mechanical properties and oxidation resistance can be obtained through proper alloy design. In-depth understanding of the advantages of the quaternary alloys over their ternary ancestors may contribute to bringing about a new concept in designing novel ultra-high-temperature structural materials.

Abstract
BackgroundRetirement can substantially affect one's lifestyle and self-identity. However, little research has focused on how pre-retirement conditions are associated with retirement adjustment.MethodThis study utilized data from 1989 to 2015 Taiwan Longitudinal Study on Aging. A total of 1,471 cases who experienced retirement between waves and completed the subsequent four year and eight year follow-up surveys after retirement were included for analyses. High life satisfaction and low depressive symptoms represented good retirement adjustment. Multiple regression analysis was applied to test the hypothesized relationships. ResultsThe findings were as follows: 1. Retirees experienced increased depressive symptoms and worsened family relationships when transiting from pre-retirement to post-retirement.2. High cognition functioning, ideal family relationships and sufficient financial resources before retirement were consistently associated with few depressive symptoms and high life satisfaction, both at four and eight year follow-ups. 3. Of the 10 different leisure activities investigated, physically active leisure activities such as walking and participating group exercise before retirement predicted few depressive symptoms and high life satisfaction four years after retirement, but not eight year follow-up. DiscussionCognitive functioning, financial status, and family relationship before retirement can significantly affect both short-term (four years) and long-term (eight years) retirement adjustment, whereas physically active leisure activities only link to short-term retirement adjustment. At policy level, pre-retirement financial security should be addressed and well-prepared. At practitioner level, maintaining ideal cognition level, positive family relationship, and engaging physically active leisure activities should be the central intervention target when serving employees who are approaching retirement.

Abstract
Long intergenic noncoding ribonucleic acid (lncRNA) 460 is reportedly associated with carcinogenesis and progression in various types of cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying its action in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) remain unclear. LINC00460 mRNA expression was analysed using data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. Cell growth, migration, and invasion were evaluated using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU), transwell migration and invasion assays after inducing LINC00460 knockdown. A xenograft tumour model was used to determine the effects of LINC00460 on tumour growth and metastasis in vivo. To examine the interaction between LINC00460 and ELAVL1, RNA pulldown and RNA immunoprecipitation assays were performed. LINC00460 was found to be significantly upregulated in CSCC tissues and cell lines. Functionally, LINC00460 knockdown inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in vitro. Consistent with this, when LINC00460 expression decreased, CSCC tumorigenesis and metastasis in vivo were inhibited. Mechanistically, LINC00460 binds to embryonic lethal abnormal vision like RNA binding protein 1 (ELAVL1) and enhances its stability by inhibiting the β-transducin repeats-containing protein (β-TrCP)-mediated ubiquitination of ELAVL1. Moreover, the effect of LINC00460 silencing on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of CSCC cells could be reversed by overexpressing ELAVL1. Our findings demonstrated that LINC00460 plays a critical role in regulating ELAVL1 function. This highlights the potential targets for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of CSCC.

Abstract
Hantaan virus (HTNV) is the etiological pathogen of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome in East Asia. There are currently no effective therapeutics approved for HTNV and other hantavirus infections. We found that griffithsin (GRFT), an algae-derived lectin with broad-spectrum antiviral activity against various enveloped viruses, can inhibit the growth and spread of HTNV. In vitro experiments using recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV) with HTNV glycoproteins as a model revealed that the GRFT inhibited the entry of rVSV-HTNV-G into host cells. In addition, we demonstrated that GRFT prevented authentic HTNV infection in vitro by binding to the viral N-glycans. In vivo experiments showed that GRFT partially protected the suckling mice from death induced by intracranial exposure to HTNV. These results demonstrated that GRFT can be a promising agent for inhibiting HTNV infection.
