Abstract
Due to numerous bioactive constituents, both bee pollen (BP) and bee bread (BB) represent valuable food supplements. The transformation of BP into BB is a complex biochemical in-hive process that enables the preservation of the pollen's nutritional value. The aim of this study was to determine the depth of the honeycomb cells in which bees store pollen and to provide a spectral insight into the chemical changes that occur during the BP-to-BB transformation process. This study was carried out on three experimental colonies of Apis mellifera carnica, from which fresh BP was collected using pollen traps, while BB samples were manually extracted from the cells two weeks after BP sampling. The samples were analyzed using infrared (FTIR-ATR) spectroscopy, and the depth of the cells was measured using a caliper. The results showed that the average depth of the cells was 11.0 mm, and that the bees stored BB up to an average of 7.85 mm, thus covering between ⅔ and ¾ (71.4%) of the cell. The FTIR-ATR analysis revealed unique spectral profiles of both BP and BB, indicating compositional changes primarily reflected in a higher water content and an altered composition of the carbohydrate fraction (and, to a lesser extent, the lipid fraction) in BB compared to BP.

Abstract
The increasing worries by the inadequate use of energy and the preservation of nature are promoting an increasing interest in the production of biolubricants. After discussing the necessity of producing biolubricants, this review focuses on the production of these interesting molecules through the use of lipases, discussing the different possibilities (esterification of free fatty acids, hydroesterification or transesterification of oils and fats, transesterification of biodiesel with more adequate alcohols, estolides production, modification of fatty acids). The utilization of discarded substrates has special interest due to the double positive ecological impact (e.g., oil distillated, overused oils). Pros and cons of all these possibilities, together with general considerations to optimize the different processes will be outlined. Some possibilities to overcome some of the problems detected in the production of these interesting compounds will be also discussed.

Abstract
Lipase is one of the essential enzymes from the hydrolase family, which can be produced from multiple sources like bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals. Due to the various industrial applications, it is necessary to produce and purify lipase cost-effectively. The present study is concerned with the techno-economic analysis of the production and purification of lipase using Bacillus subtilis. In the lab experiment, a purification fold of 1347.5 was achieved with 50% recovery upon purification. The experimental data fit into a model, simulate, and economically assess a more extensive industrial setup Using SuperPro designer. Annual production of 64 batches with 26.4 kg of lipase produced per batch, and a total yearly operating cost of $16,021,000, with a payback time of around 1.37 years, were retrieved upon simulating experimental data. This study indicates the potential of the used bacteria for industrial lipase production with its techno-economic feasibility.

Abstract
Lipases are used for the synthesis of different compounds in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. Most of the reactions are carried out in non-aqueous media and often at elevated temperature, requiring the use of organic solvent-tolerant thermostable lipases. However, most known lipases are not stable in the presence of organic solvents and at elevated temperature. In this study, an organic solvent-tolerant thermostable lipase was obtained from Brevibacillus sp. SHI-160, a moderate thermophile isolated from a hot spring in the East African Rift Valley. The enzyme was optimally active at 65°C and retained over 90% of its activity after 1 h of incubation at 70°C. High lipase activity was measured in the pH range of 6.5 to 9.0 with an optimum pH of 8.5. The enzyme was stable in the presence of both polar and non-polar organic solvents. The stability of the enzyme in the presence of polar organic solvents allowed the development of an efficient downstream processing using an alcohol-salt-based aqueous two-phase system (ATPS). Thus, in the presence of 2% salt, over 98% of the enzyme partitioned to the alcohol phase. The ATPS-recovered enzyme was directly immobilized on a solid support through adsorption and successfully used to catalyze a transesterification reaction between paranitrophenyl palmitate and short-chain alcohols in non-aqueous media. This shows the potential of lipase SHI-160 to catalyze reactions in non-aqueous media for the synthesis of valuable compounds. The integrated approach developed for enzyme production and cheap and efficient downstream processing using ATPS could allow a significant reduction in enzyme production costs. The results also show the potential of extreme environments in the East African Rift Valley as sources of valuable microbial genetic resources for the isolation of novel lipases and other industrially important enzymes.

Abstract
Despite the advancements made in improving the quality of plant-based meat substitutes, more work needs to be done to match the texture, appearance, and flavor of real meat. This review aims to cover the sensory quality constraints of plant-based meat analogs and provides fermentation as a sustainable approach to push these boundaries. Plant-based meat analogs have been observed to have weak and soft textural quality, poor mouth feel, an unstable color, and unpleasant and beany flavors in some cases, necessitating the search for efficient novel technologies. A wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, as well as fungi like Fusarium venenatum and Neurospora intermedia, have improved the product texture to mimic fibrous meat structures. Additionally, the chewiness and hardness of the resulting meat analogs have been further improved through the use of Bacillus subtilis. However, excessive fermentation may result in a decrease in the final product's firmness and produce a slimy texture. Similarly, several microbial metabolites can mimic the color and flavor of meat, with some concerns. It appears that fermentation is a promising approach to modulating the sensory profiles of plant-derived meat ingredients without adverse consequences. In addition, the technology of starter cultures can be optimized and introduced as a new strategy to enhance the organoleptic properties of plant-based meat while still meeting the needs of an expanding and sustainable economy.

Abstract
In current study, lipase from a thermotolerant Bacillus subtilis TTP-06 was purified in a stepwise manner by using ammonium sulfate precipitation and column chromatography. Thenceforth, it was subjected to sodium dodecyl sulfate- and native-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to check the homogeneity of the purified enzyme. The ideal substrate concentration, pH, temperature, reaction duration and lipase specificity were identified. With a yield of 11.02%, purified lipase displayed activity of 8.51 U/mg. Thenceforward, the homogeneously purified enzyme was considered to be a homo-dimer of 30 kDa subunits. Enzyme had Km and Vmax value of 9.498 mM and 19.92 mol mg-1 min-1, respectively. Additionally, the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) method was used to investigate the purified lipase and estimate its 3-D structure, which revealed a catalytic triad of serine, aspartate and histidine.

Abstract
A significant bottleneck for the industrial application of lipases stems from their poor stability in the presence of commercial triglycerides. This is mainly due to the inactivating effect of the products of triglyceride oxidation (PTO), which are usually produced when oils and fats, being imported from far countries, are stored for long periods. In this study, the immobilization of a lipase from Candida rugosa on chitosan hydrogels has been carried out following two alternative approaches based on the enzyme adsorption and entrapment to increase the lipase stability under the operating conditions that are typical of oleochemical transformations. The effect of model compounds representing different classes of PTO on a lipase has been studied to optimize the enzyme immobilization method. Particular attention has been devoted to the characterization of the inactivating effect of PTO in nonaqueous media, which are adopted for most industrial applications of lipases.

Abstract
Circular RNAs have been extensively studied in eukaryotes, but their presence and/or biological functionality in bacteria are unclear. Here, we show that a regulatory noncoding RNA (DucS) exists in both linear and circular conformation in Bacillus altitudinis. The linear forms promote B. altitudinis tolerance to H2O2 stress, partly through increased translation of a stress-responsive gene, htrA. The 3' end sequences of the linear forms are crucial for RNA circularization, and formation of circular forms can decrease the levels of the regulatory linear cognates. Bioinformatic analysis of available RNA-seq datasets from 30 bacterial species revealed multiple circular RNA candidates, distinct from DucS, for all the examined species. Experiments testing for the presence of selected circular RNA candidates in four species successfully validated 7 out of 9 candidates from B. altitudinis and 4 out of 5 candidates from Bacillus paralicheniformis; However, none of the candidates tested for Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli were detected. Our work identifies a dual-conformation regulatory RNA in B. altitutidinis, and indicates that circular RNAs exist in diverse bacteria. However, circularization of specific RNAs does not seem to be conserved across species, and the circularization mechanisms and biological functionality of the circular forms remain unclear.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare and explore the potential of two distinct lipases at industrial levels after their production using wheat bran substrate in solid-state fermentation. Lipases from Candida albicans (C. albicans) and Acremonium sclerotigenum (A. sclerotigenum) were characterized to assess their compatibility and suitability for use in laundry detergents. The effects of pH, temperature, metal ions, inhibitors, organic solvents, and various commercially available detergents on these lipases were studied in order to compare their activity and stability profiles and check their stain removal ability. Both lipases remained stable across the wide pH (7-10) and temperature (30-50 °C) ranges. C. albicans lipase exhibited optimum activity (51.66 U/mL) at pH 7.0 and 37 °C, while A. sclerotigenum lipase showed optimum activity (52.12 U/mL) at pH 8.0 and 40 °C. The addition of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions enhanced their activities, while sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) reduced their activities. Lipase from both strains showed tolerance to various organic solvents and considerable stability and compatibility with commercially available laundry detergents (>50%); however, A. sclerotigenum lipase performed slightly better. Characterization of these crude lipases showed nearly 60% relative activity after incubation for 2 h in various detergents, thus suggesting their potential to be employed in the formulation of laundry detergents with easy and efficient enzyme production. The production of thermostable and alkaline lipases from both strains makes them an attractive option for economic gain by lowering the amount of detergent to be used, thus reducing the chemical burden on the environment.

Abstract
Lipase is a kind of industrial enzyme preparation with various catalytic abilities and is widely used in food, energy, medicine and other fields. To increase lipase and enzyme cocktail activity through solid-state fermentation, the novel strain Penicillium sp. Y-21 was obtained through ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) mutation from the novel strain Y, which was isolated from soils. Solid-state fermentation by strain Y-21 using agricultural byproducts was carried out in tray bioreactors. The optimum culture composition for enzyme cocktail fermentation was soybean meal 20 g, 3% (w/w) glucose, 1% (w/w) peptone, 5% (w/w) lard, 0.04% (w/w) CaCl2, 0.04% (w/w) FeCl3, 28 °C for 72 h. The enzyme cocktail produced by strain Y-21 is a kind of multienzyme complex, containing xylanase, glucanase, acidic protease, pectinase, cellulase and lipase, and their enzymatic activities (unit: U g-1) were 8000, 6000, 8000, 2000, 3000 and 120, respectively. During the fermentation process, the lipase coding genes pel, pha, and p12 were also studied and amplified from the RNA of Penicillium sp. Y-21 by RT-PCR. The results showed that the pel gene played an important role in enzyme production. Afterwards, an enzyme cocktail can be added to chicken feed as an additive, which improves animal growth and feed efficiency.

Abstract
Extremophiles possess unique cellular and molecular mechanisms to assist, tolerate, and sustain their lives in extreme habitats. These habitats are dominated by one or more extreme physical or chemical parameters that shape existing microbial communities and their cellular and genomic features. The diversity of extremophiles reflects a long list of adaptations over millions of years. Growing research on extremophiles has considerably uncovered and increased our understanding of life and its limits on our planet. Many extremophiles have been greatly explored for their application in various industrial processes. In this review, we focused on the characteristics that microorganisms have acquired to optimally thrive in extreme environments. We have discussed cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in stability at respective extreme conditions like thermophiles, psychrophiles, acidophiles, barophiles, etc., which highlight evolutionary aspects and the significance of extremophiles for the benefit of mankind.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The lipase gene lipSR1 isolated from oil-contaminated soil exhibits high hydrolytic activity for short-chain fatty acid substrates. A single calcium ion is required to anchor the lid of LipSR1 in an open conformation by coordination with two aspartate residues and three other residues in the lid. The lid of LipSR1 is anchored by Ca2+, which is coordinated by side-chain carboxyl oxygens of Asp153 and Asp157, carbonyl oxygens of Thr118 and Ser144, and the side chain of Gln120. RESULTS D157A, D153R, Q120A, S144A, and T118A mutants were produced by site-directed mutagenesis in this study. Analyses of hydrolytic activity and thermostability showed that the properties of D157A, D153R, Q120A, and S144A were almost lost, suggesting that Asp157, Asp153, Gln120, and Ser144 are important residues for LipSR1. However, the catalytic performance of T118A was clearly maintained. Moreover, the thermostability of mutant T118A was higher than that of wild-type LipSR1. CONCLUSIONS These results indicated that mutation of threonine at position 118 improved the stability of the enzyme at high temperature.

Abstract
Hydrolases are enzymes that have found numerous applications in various industrial sectors spanning from pharmaceuticals to foodstuff and beverages, consumers' products such as detergents and personal care, textiles, and even for biodiesel production and environmental bioremediation. Self-assembling and gelling short peptides have been designed for their mimicry so that their supramolecular organization leads to the creation of hydrophobic pockets for catalysis to occur. Catalytic gels of this kind can also find numerous industrial applications to address important global challenges of our time. This concise review focuses on the last 5 years of progress in this fast-paced, popular field of research with an eye towards the future.

Abstract
The ability to site-selectively modify equivalent functional groups in a molecule has the potential to streamline syntheses and increase product yields by lowering step counts. Enzymes catalyze site-selective transformations throughout primary and secondary metabolism, but leveraging this capability for non-native substrates and reactions requires a detailed understanding of the potential and limitations of enzyme catalysis and how these bounds can be extended by protein engineering. In this review, we discuss representative examples of site-selective enzyme catalysis involving functional group manipulation and C-H bond functionalization. We include illustrative examples of native catalysis, but our focus is on cases involving non-native substrates and reactions often using engineered enzymes. We then discuss the use of these enzymes for chemoenzymatic transformations and target-oriented synthesis and conclude with a survey of tools and techniques that could expand the scope of non-native site-selective enzyme catalysis.

Abstract
Scientific mapping using bibliometric data network analysis was applied to analyze research works related to lipases and their industrial applications, evaluating the current state of research, challenges, and opportunities in the use of these biocatalysts, based on the evaluation of a large number of publications on the topic, allowing a comprehensive systematic data analysis, which had not yet been conducted in relation to studies specifically covering lipases and their industrial applications. Thus, studies involving lipase enzymes published from 2018 to 2022 were accessed from the Web of Science database. The extracted records result in the analysis of terms of bibliographic compatibility among the articles, co-occurrence of keywords, and co-citation of journals using the VOSviewer algorithm in the construction of bibliometric maps. This systematic review analysis of 357 documents, including original and review articles, revealed studies inspired by lipase enzymes in the research period, showing that the development of research, together with different areas of knowledge, presents good results related to the applications of lipases, due to information synchronization. Furthermore, this review showed the main challenges in lipase applications regarding increased production and operational stability; establishing well-defined evaluation criteria, such as cultivation conditions, activity, biocatalyst stability, type of support and reactor; thermodynamic studies; reuse cycles; and it can assist in defining goals for the development of successful large-scale applications, showing several points for improvement of future studies on lipase enzymes.

Abstract
The proportion of approved chiral drugs and drug candidates under medical studies has surged dramatically over the past two decades. As a consequence, the efficient synthesis of enantiopure pharmaceuticals or their synthetic intermediates poses a profound challenge to medicinal and process chemists. The significant advancement in asymmetric catalysis has provided an effective and reliable solution to this challenge. The successful application of transition metal catalysis, organocatalysis, and biocatalysis to the medicinal and pharmaceutical industries has promoted drug discovery by efficient and precise preparation of enantio-enriched therapeutic agents, and facilitated the industrial production of active pharmaceutical ingredient in an economic and environmentally friendly fashion. The present review summarizes the most recent applications (2008-2022) of asymmetric catalysis in the pharmaceutical industry ranging from process scales to pilot and industrial levels. It also showcases the latest achievements and trends in the asymmetric synthesis of therapeutic agents with state of the art technologies of asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
Polyglycerol fatty acid esters (PGFAEs) are gaining interest in several industrial sectors due to their excellent surfactant properties and their wide range of hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) values. Moreover, they can be prepared from renewable resources, i.e., fatty acids and glycerol. In this study, polyglycerol-2 stearic acid esters (PG2SAEs) were synthesized by the enzymatic esterification of polyglycerol-2 (PG2) and stearic acid (SA) using the immobilized lipase Novozym 435 as a biocatalyst in a solvent-free system. Reaction conditions, i.e., temperature (80 °C), reactant ratio (1:1.8), and enzyme loading (2.7% w/w), were finely optimized; furthermore, biocatalyst recycling was studied by assessing the residual activity of the lipase after each reaction cycle, up to 20 times. The composition of the enzymatically synthesized products (E) was roughly evaluated by chromatographic methods and mass spectrometry and compared with that of the esters obtained by acid-catalyzed esterification (C). Then, the surfactant properties of the prepared polyglycerol-based surfactants were investigated by interfacial tension studies. Specifically, the emulsifying capacity and stability and the rheological behavior of O/W emulsions prepared in the presence of E were deeply investigated in comparison with those of the chemically synthesized and commercially available product C.

Abstract
The cold adapted microorganisms, psychrophiles/psychrotolerants, go through several modifications at cellular and biochemical levels to alleviate the influence of low temperature stress conditions. The low temperature environments depend on these cold adapted microorganisms for various ecological processes. The ability of the microorganisms to function in cold environments depends on the strategies directly associated with cell metabolism, physicochemical constrains, and stress factors. Pseudomonas is one among such group of microorganisms which is predominant in cold environments with a wide range of ecological and biotechnological applications. Bioformulations of Pseudomonas spp., possessing plant growth promotion and biocontrol abilities for application under low temperature environments, are well documented. Further, recent advances in high throughput sequencing provide essential information regarding the prevalence of Pseudomonas in rhizospheres and their role in plant health. Cold adapted species of Pseudomonas are also getting recognition for their potential in biodegradation and bioremediation of environmental contaminants. Production of enzymes and bioactive compounds (primarily as an adaptation mechanism) gives way to their applications in various industries. Exopolysaccharides and various biotechnologically important enzymes, produced by cold adapted species of Pseudomonas, are making their way in food, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. The present review, therefore, aims to summarize the functional versatility of Pseudomonas with particular reference to its peculiarities along with the ecological and biotechnological applications.

Abstract
Pseudomonas sp. D01, capable of growing in tributyrin medium, was isolated from the gut microbiota of yellow mealworm. By using in silico analyses, we discovered a hypothesized esterase encoding gene in the D01 bacterium, and its encoded protein, EstD04, was classified as a bacterial hormone-sensitive lipase (bHSL) of the type IV lipase family. The study revealed that the recombinant EstD04-His(6x) protein exhibited esterase activity and broad substrate specificity, as it was capable of hydrolyzing p-nitrophenyl derivatives with different acyl chain lengths. By using the most favorable substrate p-nitrophenyl butyrate (C4), we defined the optimal temperature and pH value for EstD04 esterase activity as 40 °C and pH 8, respectively, with a catalytic efficiency (kcat/Km) of 6.17 × 103 mM-1 s-1 at 40 °C. EstD04 demonstrated high stability between pH 8 and 10, and thus, it might be capably used as an alkaline esterase in industrial applications. The addition of Mg2+ and NH4+, as well as DMSO, could stimulate EstD04 enzyme activity. Based on bioinformatic motif analyses and tertiary structural simulation, we determined EstD04 to be a typical bHSL protein with highly conserved motifs, including a triad catalytic center (Ser160, Glu253, and His283), two cap regions, hinge sites, and an oxyanion hole, which are important for the type IV enzyme activity. Moreover, the sequence analysis suggested that the two unique discrete cap regions of EstD04 may contribute to its alkali mesophilic nature, allowing EstD04 to exhibit extremely distinct physiological properties from its evolutionarily closest esterase.

Abstract
Endemic medicinal plants that grow at altitudes in northern Chile have been traditionally used for therapeutic applications by Aymara doctors. Several studies have analyzed the biological properties of these plants for therapeutic purposes. The aim was to characterize at molecular and biochemical levels the bacteria that live in the rhizosphere and roots from endemic medicinal plants that grow between 3681-5104 m.a.s.l. in the province of Parinacota. Thirty-nine bacteria were isolated from nine medicinal plants under our laboratory conditions. These bacteria were characterized by Gram stain, hydrolase production, plant-growth promotion, anti-fungal and antibacterial activities, and 16S rDNA sequencing. A phylogenetic study revealed the presence of three major phyla, Actinomycetota (46.2%), Bacillota (43.6%), and Pseudomonadota (10.3%). The rhizobacteria strains associated with the Aymara medicinal plant exhibited several interesting biological activities, such as hydrolytic enzymes, plant-growth-promoting traits, and antibacterial and antifungal properties, indicating their potential for developing new bio-based products for agricultural or clinical applications. These results are promising and highlight the need to point toward the search for explanations of the bio-molecular basis of the therapeutic effects of medicinal plants.

Abstract
Chiral motifs of 2,3-dihydro-1,4 benzodioxane are extensively utilized in diverse medicinal substances and bioactive natural compounds, exhibiting significant biological activities. Notable examples of such therapeutic agents include prosympal, dibozane, piperoxan, and doxazosin. In this work, using 1,4-benzodioxane-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester as the substrate, after screening 38 CALB covariant residues, we found that mutants A225F and A225F/T103A can catalyze the kinetic resolution of the substrate. The effect of temperature, cosolvent, and cosolvent concentration on kinetic resolution was investigated, revealing that the best results were achieved at 30 °C with 20% n-butanol as a cosolvent, resulting in an optimal resolution (e.e.s 97%, E = 278) at 50 mM substrate concentration. Structure analysis showed that mutation sites 225 and 103 are not among the sites that interact directly with the substrate, which means that covariant amino acids that interact remotely with the substrate also regulate enzyme catalysis. This research may provide us with a new strategy for enzyme evolution.

Abstract
Aiming to reduce the toxicity and operational costs often associated to chemical processes, the enzymatic synthesis is applied herein as a sustainable route for producing polyesters. The use of NADES' (Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents) components as a source of monomers for the synthesis of polymers through lipase-catalyzed esterification in an anhydrous medium is detailed for the first time. Three NADES composed by glycerol and an organic base, or acid, were used to produce polyesters, through polymerization reactions catalyzed by Aspergillus oryzae lipase. High polyester conversion rates (above 70 %), containing at least 20 monomeric units (glycerol:organic acid/base (1 : 1)), were observed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) analysis. The NADES monomers' capacity for polymerization, along with their non-toxicity, cheap cost, and simplicity of production, sets up these solvents as a greener and cleaner approach for the synthesis of high value-added products.

Abstract
The Bacillaceae family members are considered to be a good source of microbial factories for biotechnological processes. In contrast to Bacillus and Geobacillus, Anoxybacillus, which would be thermophilic and spore-forming group of bacteria, is a relatively new genus firstly proposed in the year of 2000. The development of thermostable microbial enzymes, waste management and bioremediation processes would be a crucial parameter in the industrial sectors. There has been increasing interest in Anoxybacillus strains for biotechnological applications. Therefore, various Anoxybacillus strains isolated from different habitats have been explored and identified for biotechnological and industrial purposes such as enzyme production, bioremediation and biodegradation of toxic compounds. Certain strains have ability to produce exopolysaccharides possessing biological activities including antimicrobial, antioxidant and anticancer. This current review provides past and recent discoveries regarding Anoxybacillus strains and their potential biotechnological applications in enzyme industry, environmental processes and medicine.

Abstract
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a principal food for more than half of the world's people. Rice is predominantly consumed as white rice, a refined grain that is produced during the rice milling process which removes the bran and germ and leaves the starchy endosperm. Rice bran is a by-product produced from the rice milling process, which contains many bioactive compounds, for instance, phenolic compounds, tocotrienols, tocopherols, and γ-oryzanol. These bioactive compounds are thought to protect against cancer, vascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. Extraction of rice bran oil also generates various by-products including rice bran wax, defatted rice bran, filtered cake, and rice acid oil, and some of them exert bioactive substances that could be utilized as functional food ingredients. However, rice bran is often utilized as animal feed or discarded as waste. Therefore, this review aimed to discuss the role of rice bran in metabolic ailments. The bioactive constituents and food product application of rice bran were also highlighted in this study. Collectively, a better understanding of the underlying molecular mechanism and the role of these bioactive compounds exerted in the rice bran would provide a useful approach for the food industry and prevent metabolic ailments.

Abstract
Biocatalysis can improve current bioprocesses by identifying or improving enzymes that withstand harsh and unnatural operating conditions. Immobilized Biocatalyst Engineering (IBE) is a novel strategy integrating protein engineering and enzyme immobilization as a single workflow. Using IBE, it is possible to obtain immobilized biocatalysts whose soluble performance would not be selected. In this work, Bacillus subtilis lipase A (BSLA) variants obtained through IBE were characterized as soluble and immobilized biocatalysts, and how the interactions with the support affect their structure and catalytic performance were analyzed using intrinsic protein fluorescence. Variant P5G3 (Asn89Asp, Gln121Arg) showed a 2.6-fold increased residual activity after incubation at 76 °C compared to immobilized wild-type (wt) BSLA. On the other hand, variant P6C2 (Val149Ile) showed 4.4 times higher activity after incubation in 75 % isopropyl alcohol (36 °C) compared to Wt_BSLA. Furthermore, we studied the advancement of the IBE platform by performing synthesis and immobilizing the BSLA variants using a cell-free protein synthesis (CFPS) approach. The observed differences in immobilization performance, high temperature, and solvent resistance between the in vivo-produced variants and Wt_BSLA were confirmed for the in vitro synthesized enzymes. These results open the door for designing strategies integrating IBE and CFPS to generate and screen improved immobilized enzymes from genetic diversity libraries. Furthermore, it was confirmed that IBE is a platform that can be used to obtain improved biocatalysts, especially those with an unremarkable performance as soluble biocatalysts, which wouldn't be selected for immobilization and further development for specific applications.

Abstract
Industrialization and other human activity represent significant environmental hazards. Toxic contaminants can harm a comprehensive platform of living organisms in their particular environments. Bioremediation is an effective remediation process in which harmful pollutants are eliminated from the environment using microorganisms or their enzymes. Microorganisms in the environment often create a variety of enzymes that can eliminate hazardous contaminants by using them as a substrate for development and growth. Through their catalytic reaction mechanism, microbial enzymes may degrade and eliminate harmful environmental pollutants and transform them into non-toxic forms. The principal types of microbial enzymes which can degrade most hazardous environmental contaminants include hydrolases, lipases, oxidoreductases, oxygenases, and laccases. Several immobilizations, genetic engineering strategies, and nanotechnology applications have been developed to improve enzyme performance and reduce pollution removal process costs. Until now, the practically applicable microbial enzymes from various microbial sources and their ability to degrade multipollutant effectively or transformation potential and mechanisms are unknown. Hence, more research and further studies are required. Additionally, there is a gap in the suitable approaches considering toxic multipollutants bioremediation using enzymatic applications. This review focused on the enzymatic elimination of harmful contaminants in the environment, such as dyes, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, plastics, heavy metals, and pesticides. Recent trends and future growth for effectively removing harmful contaminants by enzymatic degradation are also thoroughly discussed.

Abstract
Multiple sequence alignments of three lipase isoforms from the filamentous fungus, Cordyceps militaris, have revealed that the deduced protein from their common sequence belongs to the Candida rugosa lipase-like group. To express the protein in its active form, recombinant lipase from C. militaris (rCML) was extra cellularly expressed in Pichia pastoris X-33 after removing its signal peptide. Purified rCML was a stable monomeric protein with a molecular mass of 90 kDa, and was highly N-mannosylated compared to the native protein (69 kDa). The catalytic efficiency (kcat/Km) of rCML was greater than the native protein (1244.35 ± 50.88 and 1067.17 ± 29.07 mM-1·min-1, respectively), yet they had similar optimal pH values and temperatures (40 °C and pH 7.0-7.5), and showed preferences for Tween esters and short-chain triacylglycerols. Despite its monomeric conformation, interfacial activation was not observed for rCML, unlike the classical lipases. From the structural model of rCML, the binding pocket of rCML was predicted as a funnel-like structure consisting of a hollow space and an intramolecular tunnel, which is typical of C. rugosa lipase-like lipases. However, a blockage shortened the tunnel to 12-15 Å, which endows strict short-chain selectivity towards triacylglycerols and a perfect match for tricaproin (C6:0). The limited depth of the tunnel may enable accommodation of triacylglycerols with medium-to-long-chain fatty acids, which differentiates rCML from other C. rugosa lipase-like lipases with broad substrate specificities.

Abstract
A state-of-the-art strategy for the determination of lipase activity in pancreatic preparations using flow injection analysis (FIA) with electrochemical detection (FIA-ED) is described. The procedure is based on the enzymatic reaction of a specific substrate (1,3-dilinoleoyl-glycerol) with lipase from porcine pancreas and determination of enzymatically formed linoleic acid (LA) at +0.4 V by applying a cobalt (II) phthalocyanine-multiwalled carbon-nanotubes modified carbon paste electrode (Co(II)PC/MWCNT/CPE). In order to get a high-performance analytical method, sample preparation, flow system, and electrochemical conditions were optimized. Under optimized conditions the lipase activity of porcine pancreatic lipase was calculated to be 0.47 units per mg lipase protein based on the definition that 1 unit hydrolyses 1 microequivalent linoleic acid from 1,3-dilinoleoyl-glycerol per 1 min at pH 9 and 20 °C (kinetic measurement: 0-25 min). Moreover, the developed procedure was shown to be easily adaptable for the fixed-time assay (incubation time 25 min) as well. In this case, linear correlation between flow signal and lipase activity was found in the range from 0.8 to 18 U L-1. LOD and LOQ were determined to be 0.3 U L-1 and 1 U L-1, respectively. The kinetic assay was further preferred for the determination of lipase activity in commercially available pancreatic preparations. The lipase activities of all preparations obtained by the present method were found to be in good correlation with those obtained by the titrimetric method and declared by manufacturers.

Abstract
Based on the high nutrients of oat and the demand of health-conscious consumers for value-added and functional foods, fermented oat beverages have great market prospects. This review summarizes the applicable strains, processing techniques and health benefits of fermented oat beverages. Firstly, the fermentation characteristics and conditions of the applicable strains are systematically described. Secondly, the advantages of pre-treatment processes such as enzymatic hydrolysis, germination, milling and drying are summarized. Furthermore, fermented oat beverages can increase the nutrient content and reduce the content of anti-nutritional factors, thereby reducing some risk factors related to many diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. This paper discusses the current research status of fermented oat beverages, which has academic significance for researchers interested in the application potential of oat. Future studies on fermenting oat beverages can focus on the development of special compound fermentation agents and the richness of their taste.

Abstract
The application of enzyme-based therapies has received significant attention in modern drug development. Lipases are one of the most versatile enzymes that can be used as therapeutic agents in basic skin care and medical treatment related to excessive sebum production, acne, and inflammation. The traditional formulations available for skin treatment, such as creams, ointments or gels, are widely applied; however, their use is not always accompanied by good drug penetration properties, stability, or patient adherence. Nanoformulated drugs offer the possibility of combining enzymatic and small molecule formulations, making them a new and exciting alternative in this field. In this study polymeric nanofibrous matrices made of polyvinylpyrrolidone and polylactic acid were developed, entrapping lipases from Candida rugosa and Rizomucor miehei and antibiotic compound nadifloxacin. The effect of the type of polymers and lipases were investigated, and the nanofiber formation process was optimized to provide a promising alternative in topical treatment. Our experiments have shown that entrapment by electrospinning induced two orders of magnitude increase in the specific enzyme activity of lipases. Permeability investigations indicated that all lipase-loaded nanofibrous masks were capable of delivering nadifloxacin to the human epidermis, confirming the viability of electrospinning as a formulation method for topical skin medications.

Abstract
Bacteria residing in contaminated waste soil degrade and utilize organic and inorganic material as a source of nutrients as well as reduce environmental contamination through their enzymatic machinery. This enzymatic potential of indigenous bacteria can be exploited at industrial level through detailed screening, characterization, optimization and purification. In present study, diversity and enzymatic potential of indigenous bacteria was investigated through qualitative and quantitative screening methods from unexplored contaminated soil waste sites in Faisalabad. Shannon diversity (H') index revealed that twenty-eight soil samples from four contaminated sites were highly diverse of amylase, protease and lipase producing bacteria. Maximum protease producing bacteria were detected in fruit waste (1.929 × 107), whereas amylase and lipase producing bacteria were found in industrial (1.475 × 107) and (5.38 × 106), in household waste soil samples. Most of the indigenous bacterial isolates showed potential for multiple enzymes. An isolate OC5 exhibited capability for amylase production and optimization at a wider range of cultural conditions; pH (6-8), temperature (25 °C, 37 °C, 45 °C), incubation time (24-72 h), and NaCl concentrations 0.5-13%, using (1%) starch and lactose as substrates. An isolate OC5 was identified by molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis showed 99% sequence similarity with Bacillus spp. ANOVA was used to analyzed all data statistically. This study enhances the importance of initial screening and reporting of industrially potent indigenous bacteria from unexplored contaminated waste soils. In future, indigenous bacteria in contaminated wastes may be good candidates to solve various environmental pollution problems.

Abstract
Microbial lipases expedite the hydrolysis and synthesis of long-chain acyl esters. They are highly significant commercial biocatalysts to biotechnologists and organic chemists. The market size of lipase is anticipated to reach $590 million by 2023. This is all owing to their versatility in properties, including stability in organic solvents, interfacial activation in micro-aqueous environments, high substrate specificity, and activity in even non-aqueous milieu. Lipases are omnipresent and synthesized by various living organisms, including animals, plants, and microorganisms. Microbial lipases are the preferred choice for industrial applications as they entail low production costs, higher yield independent of seasonal changes, easier purification practices, and are capable of being genetically modified. Microbial lipases are employed in several common industries, namely various food manufactories (dairy, bakery, flavor, and aroma enhancement, etc.), leather tanneries, paper and pulp, textiles, detergents, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, biodiesel synthesis, bioremediation and waste treatment, and many more. In recent decades, circumspection toward eco-friendly and sustainable energy has led scientists to develop industrial mechanisms with lesser waste/effluent generation, minimal overall energy usage, and biocatalysts that can be synthesized using renewable, low-cost, and unconventional raw materials. However, there are still issues regarding the commercial use of lipases which make industrialists wary and sometimes even switch back to chemical catalysis. Industrially relevant lipase properties must be further optimized, analyzed, and explored to ensure their continuous successful utilization. This review comprehensively describes the general background, structural characteristics, classifications, thermostability, and various roles of bacterial lipases in important industries.

Abstract
Cavities are created by hydrophobic interactions between residue side chain atoms during the folding of enzymes. Redesigning cavities can improve the thermostability and catalytic activity of the enzyme; however, the synergistic effect of cavities remains unclear. In this study, Rhizomucor miehei lipase (RML) was used as a model to explore volume fluctuation and spatial distribution changes of the internal cavities, which could reveal the roles of internal cavities in the thermostability and catalytic activity. We present an inside out cavity engineering (CE) strategy based on computational techniques to explore how changes in the volumes and spatial distribution of cavities affect the thermostability and catalytic activity of the enzyme. We obtained 12 single-point mutants, among which the melting temperatures (Tm) of 8 mutants showed an increase of more than 2°C. Sixteen multipoint mutations were further designed by spatial distribution rearrangement of internal cavities. The Tm of the most stable triple variant, with mutations including T21V (a change of T to V at position 21), S27A, and T198L (T21V/S27A/T198L), was elevated by 11.0°C, together with a 28.7-fold increase in the half-life at 65°C and a specific activity increase of 9.9-fold (up to 5,828 U mg-1), one of the highest lipase activities reported. The possible mechanism of decreased volumes and spatial rearrangement of the internal cavities improved the stability of the enzyme, optimizing the outer substrate tunnel to improve the catalytic efficiency. Overall, the inside out computational redesign of cavities method could help to deeply understand the effect of cavities on enzymatic stability and activity, which would be beneficial for protein engineering efforts to optimize natural enzymes. IMPORTANCE In the present study, R. miehei lipase, which is widely used in various industries, provides an opportunity to explore the effects of internal cavities on the thermostability and catalytic activity of enzymes. Here, we execute high hydrostatic pressure molecular dynamics (HP-MD) simulations to screen the critical internal cavity and reshape the internal cavities through site-directed mutation. We show that as the global internal cavity volume decreases, cavity rearrangement can improve the stability of the protein while optimizing the substrate channel to improve the catalytic efficiency. Our results provide significant insights into understanding the mechanism of action of the internal cavity. Our strategy is expected to be applied to other enzymes to promote increases in thermostability and catalytic activity.

Abstract
There is a growing trend to produce lipase from microorganisms owing to their commercial demand in various industries. Bacillus cereus has been shown to have extracellular lipase activity and high growth rates. This study explains the purification of microbial lipase to homogeneity by dialysis, precipitation and chromatography. The purified enzyme with 56kDa relative molecular mass exhibited the highest activity at 60°C (95.56U/ml) and pH 7 (124.50U/ml). The enzyme activity was highly promoted in the presence of K+ (136.17U/ml) and Zn++(133.07 U/ml), and SDS did not affect the enzyme activity, whereas in the company of triton X100 activity of lipase is maximum (23.90 U/ml). The enzyme activity was enhanced by using almond oil (120.00 U/ml) as a substrate. We deduce cheaper protocols for producing extracellular lipase via simple laboratory techniques, which could be a good insight for its production at the commercial level.

Abstract
Potent lipase-producing and halotolerant Bacillus altitudinis Ant19 strain was screened and isolated from Antarctic soil. The isolate showed broad-range lipase activity against different lipid substrates. Presence of lipase activity was confirmed by PCR amplification and sequencing of the lipase gene from Ant19. The study attempted to establish the use of crude extracellular lipase extract as cheap alternative to purified enzyme by characterizing the crude lipase activity and testing it in certain practical applications. Crude lipase extract from Ant19 showed high stability at 5-28 ℃ (> 97%), while lipase activity was noted in a wide temperature range of 20-60 ℃ (> 69%), with optimum activity at 40 ℃ (117.6%). The optimum lipolytic activity was noted at pH 8 with good activity and stability in alkaline conditions (pH 7-10). Moreover, the lipase activity was substantially stable in various solvents, commercial detergents, and surfactants. It retained 97.4% activity in 1% solution of commercial Nirma detergent. Besides, it was non-regiospecific, and active against substrates having different fatty acid chain lengths with preference for shorter chain length. Further, the crude lipase enhanced the oil stain removal efficiency of commercial detergent from 52 to 77.9%, while 66% oil stain was removed using crude lipase alone. Immobilization process improved the storage stability of crude lipase for 90 days. In our knowledge, it is the first study on characterization of lipase activity from B. altitudinis, which has promising applications in various fields.

Abstract
It is well-known that enzymes are molecules particularly susceptible to pH and temperature variations. Immobilization techniques may overcome this weakness besides improving the reusability of the biocatalysts. Given the strong push toward a circular economy, the use of natural lignocellulosic wastes as supports for enzyme immobilization has been increasingly attractive in recent years. This fact is mainly due to their high availability, low costs, and the possibility of reducing the environmental impact that can occur when they are improperly stored. In addition, they have physical and chemical characteristics suitable for enzyme immobilization (large surface area, high rigidity, porosity, reactive functional groups, etc.). This review aims to guide readers and provide them with the tools necessary to select the most suitable methodology for lipase immobilization on lignocellulosic wastes. The importance and the characteristics of an increasingly interesting enzyme, such as lipase, and the advantages and disadvantages of the different immobilization methods will be discussed. The various kinds of lignocellulosic wastes and the processing required to make them suitable as carriers will be also reported.

Exogenous Penicillium camemberti Lipase Preparation Exerts Prebiotic-like Effects by Increasing Cecal Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus Abundance in Rats. FERMENTATION-BASEL 2023. Abstract
Penicillium camemberti is used in cheese production; however, its health benefits remain to be elucidated. We previously found that supplemental Aspergillus-derived lipase preparation exerts a strong bifidogenic effect in rats fed a high-fat diet. This study investigated the effects of the feeding of a diet containing a 0.2% or 0.4% Penicillium camemberti-derived lipase preparation (PCL) for two weeks on the cecal microbiota in rats. According to 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis, both PCL supplements significantly (p < 0.05) affected the cecal microbial community. At the genus level, supplemental 0.4% PCL significantly increased the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Collinsella (127-fold, 6-fold, and 193-fold increase, respectively). The abundance of these bacteria in the 0.2% PCL group was between that of the control and 0.4% PCL groups. Notably, the effects of supplemental 0.4% PCL on modulating the abundance of these bacteria matched the effects observed in studies on typical prebiotic oligosaccharides. PICRUSt analysis revealed that PCL supplements significantly modulated the relative abundance of bacterial genes associated with 27 metabolic pathways, some of which were similar to those reported for prebiotic oligosaccharides. This study provides the first evidence indicating that supplemental PCL exerts prebiotic-like effects by modulating the abundance of the gut microbiota.

Abstract
Most of the lipolytic enzymes (carboxylesterases, EC 3.1.1.1 and triacylglycerol acylhydrolases, EC 3.1.1.3) originate from bacteria and form a large group of functionally important enzymes that are also well known for their use in multiple biotechnology sectors. Rapid and increasing amount of bacterial lipolytic enzymes being discovered and characterized led to a necessity to classify them. More than twenty years ago bacterial lipolytic enzymes were originally classified into eight families and six true lipase sub-families based on the differences in their amino acid sequences and biochemical properties. Later, this classification was comprehensively updated to 19 families with eight subfamilies, and more recently, employing deeper comparative analysis methods, classification expanded to 35 families and 11 subfamilies. Bacterial lipolytic enzymes that cannot be classified into currently existing families are still being discovered. This work provides site-directed mutagenesis and differential scanning fluorimetry based investigation of catalytic function-related amino acids of previously discovered and characterized EstAG1 carboxylesterase from Staphylococcus saprophyticus AG1. Experimental results obtained in this work revealed that EstAG1 carboxylesterase can be placed into a new family of bacterial lipolytic enzymes.

Abstract
Leather is one of the widely traded commodities globally. It is a strategically important sector for the economic and industrial development of the country. However, the leather industry is perceived as a highly polluting industry. It produces huge amounts of solid and liquid wastes, and if these wastes are not properly treated and disposed of, then it tends to deteriorate the quality of soil and water, as well as cause emanations of smell and noxious gases into the surrounding. The current paper provides information about industrial leather enzymes, primarily collagenase, tannase, and lecithinase. In this study, enzymes such as collagenase, tannase, and lecithinase had a pivotal role in leather industries and their action in the bioremediation of leather effluents was further analysed and docked with a diverse range of compounds (ligands), with an optimal binding affinity score was determined. All interactions between protein ligands were depicted, which will help us with future research. Furthermore, this method can be tested practically, and other parameters can be studied in the future. Further, applications of enzymes and their hydrolyse by-products have also been highlighted in a variety of industries, including the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, agricultural, medical, and food sectors. Subsequently, this finding provides an innovative and broader goal for various sectors in terms of sustainability, stabilisation, and identifying research gaps that can guide modern industries and research scientists.

Abstract
Lipases are versatile biocatalysts and are used in different bioconversion reactions. Microbial lipases are currently attracting a great amount of attention due to the rapid advancement of enzyme technology and its practical application in a variety of industrial processes. The current review provides updated information on the different sources of microbial lipases, such as fungi, bacteria, and yeast, their classical and modern purification techniques, including precipitation and chromatographic separation, the immunopurification technique, the reversed micellar system, aqueous two-phase system (ATPS), aqueous two-phase flotation (ATPF), and the use of microbial lipases in different industries, e.g., the food, textile, leather, cosmetics, paper, and detergent industries. Furthermore, the article provides a critical analysis of lipase-producing microbes, distinguished from the previously published reviews, and illustrates the use of lipases in biosensors, biodiesel production, and tea processing, and their role in bioremediation and racemization.

Abstract
Lamb meat is an important export commodity, however chilled vacuum-packed (VP) lamb has approximately half the shelf-life of beef under the same storage conditions. This makes the industry more vulnerable to financial losses due to long shipping times and unexpected spoilage. Understanding the spoilage mechanisms of chilled VP lamb in relation to VP beef is important for developing effective strategies to extend the shelf-life of lamb. This review has discussed various key factors (i.e., pH, fat, and presence of bone) that have effects on microbial spoilage of VP lamb contributing to its shorter shelf-life relative to VP beef. A range of bacterial organisms and their metabolisms in relevance to lamb spoilage are also discussed. The data gap in the literature regarding the potential mechanisms of spoilage in VP red meat is highlighted. This review has provided the current understanding of key factors affecting the shelf-life of VP lamb relative to VP beef. It has also identified key areas of research to further understand the spoilage mechanisms of VP lamb. These include investigating the potential influence of fat and bone (including bone marrow) on the shelf-life, as well as assessing changes in the meat metabolome as the spoilage microbial community is developing using an integrated approach. Such new knowledge would aid the development of effective approaches to extend the shelf-life of VP lamb.

Abstract
Oleaginous diatoms accumulate lipids of biotechnological interest when exposed to nutrient stress conditions such as nitrogen starvation. While accumulation mechanisms are well-known and have been engineered to improve lipid production, degradation mechanisms remain poorly investigated in diatoms. Identifying lipid-degrading enzymes is the initial step to understanding the catabolic processes. In this study, an in silico screening of the genome of Phaeodactylum tricornutum led to the identification of 57 putative triacylglycerol lipases (EC 3.1.1.3) grouped in 4 families. Further analysis revealed the presence of conserved domains and catalytic residues of lipases. Physico-chemical characteristics and subcellular localization predictions highlighted that a majority of these putative proteins are hydrophilic and cytosolic, suggesting they could be recruited to lipid droplets directly from the cytosol. Among the 57 identified putative proteins, three lipases were identified as possibly involved in lipophagy due to a potential vacuolar localization. The expression of the mRNA corresponding to the 57 proteins was then searched in 3 transcriptomic datasets obtained under nitrogen starvation. Nine genes were highly regulated and were considered as encoding enzymes with a probable important function in lipid catabolism. A tertiary structure prediction of these nine candidates yielded eight functional 3D models. Among those, two downregulated enzymes, Phatr3_J54974 and Phatr3_EG00720, were highlighted as good targets for future functional genomics and purification studies to investigate their role in lipid degradation.

Abstract
The production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and fine chemicals is accelerating due to the advent of novel microreactors and new materials for immobilizing customized biocatalysts that permit long-term use in continuous-flow reactors. This work studied the scalability of a tunable U-shape magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)-based microreactor. The reactor consisted of a polytetrafluoroethylene tube (PTFE) of various inner diameters (ID = 0.75 mm, 1.50 mm, or 2.15 mm) and six movable permanent magnets positioned under the tube to create reaction chambers allowing the fluid reaction mixture to flow through and above the enzyme-loaded MNPs anchored by permanent magnets. The microreactors with various tube sizes and MNP capacities were tested with the preparative scale kinetic resolution of the drug-like alcohols 4-(3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2(1H)-yl)butan-2-ol (±)-1a and 4-(3,4-dihydroquinolin-1(2H)-yl)butan-2-ol (±)-1b, utilizing Lipase B from Candida antarctica immobilized covalently onto MNPs, leading to highly enantioenriched products [(R)-2a,b and (S)-1a,b]. The results in the U-shape MNP flow reactor were compared with reactions in the batch mode with CaLB-MNPs using similar conditions. Of the three different systems, the one with ID = 1.50 mm showed the best balance between the maximum loading capacity of biocatalysts in the reactor and the most effective cross-section area. The results showed that this U-shaped tubular microreactor might be a simple and flexible instrument for many processes in biocatalysis, providing an easy-to-set-up alternative to existing techniques.

Abstract
Waste oil pollution and the treatment of oily waste present a challenge, and the exploitation of microbial resources is a safe and efficient method to resolve these problems. Lipase-producing microorganisms can directly degrade waste oil and promote the degradation of oily waste and, therefore, have very significant research and application value. The isolation of efficient oil-degrading strains is of great practical significance in research into microbial remediation in oil-contaminated environments and for the enrichment of the microbial lipase resource library. In this study, Acinetobacter junii WCO-9, an efficient oil-degrading bacterium, was isolated from an oil-contaminated soil using olive oil as the sole carbon source, and its enzyme activity of ρ-nitrophenyl decanoate (ρ-NPD) decomposition was 3000 U/L. The WCO-9 strain could degrade a variety of edible oils, and its degradation capability was significantly better than that of the control strain, A junii ATCC 17908. Comparative pan-genome and lipid degradation pathway analyses indicated that A. junii isolated from the same environment shared a similar set of core genes and that the species accumulated more specific genes that facilitated resistance to environmental stresses under different environmental conditions. WCO-9 has accumulated a complete set of oil metabolism genes under a long-term oil-contamination environment, and the compact arrangement of abundant lipase and lipase chaperones has further strengthened the ability of the strain to survive in such environments. This is the main reason why WCO-9 is able to degrade oil significantly more effectively than ATCC 17908. In addition, WCO-9 possesses a specific lipase that is not found in homologous strains. In summary, A. junii WCO-9, with a complete triglyceride degradation pathway and the specific lipase gene, has great potential in environmental remediation and lipase for industry.

Abstract
Enzymatic treatment of food and vegetable waste (FVW) is an eco-friendly approach for producing industrially relevant value-added products. This review describes the sources, activities and potential applications of crucial enzymes in FVW valorization. The specific roles of amylase, cellulase, xylanase, ligninase, protease, pectinase, tannase, lipase and zymase enzymes were explained. The exhaustive list of value-added products that could be produced from FVW is presented. FVW valorization through enzymatic and whole-cell enzymatic valorization was compared. The note on global firms specialized in enzyme production reiterates the economic importance of enzymatic treatment. This review provides information on choosing an efficient enzymatic FVW treatment strategy, such as nanoenzyme and cross-linked based enzyme immobilization, to make the process viable, sustainable and cheaper. Finally, the importance of life cycle assessment of enzymatic valorization of FVW was impressed to prove this approach is a better option to shift from a linear to a circular economy.

Abstract
Yarrowia lipolytica possesses natural and engineered traits that make it a good host for the industrial bioproduction of chemicals, fuels, foods, and pharmaceuticals. In recent years, academic and industrial researchers have assessed its potential, developed synthetic biology techniques, improved its features, scaled its processes, and identified its limitations. Both publications and patents related to Y. lipolytica have shown a drastic increase during the past decade. Here, we discuss the characteristics of this yeast that make it suitable for industry and the remaining challenges for its wider use at large scale. We present evidence herein that shows the importance and potential of Y. lipolytica in bioproduction such that it may soon be one of the preferred choices of industry.

Abstract
According to the "interfacial activation" mechanism, constructing a sufficient interface is the key strategy for lipase-catalytic system designing. Based on the "infinite interface in finite three-dimensional space" logic, in the current study, poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA)-polybutyl methacrylate (PBMA) hybrid gels were prepared by a two-step crosslinking strategy, subsequently constructed as lipase-interfacial catalytic systems. The results confirm that the PDMA-PBMA hybrid gels with "networks in pores" structures could swell both the aqueous phase and organic phase. The balance between water swelling and isooctane swelling, hybrid gel space (height control), and the lipase entry manner significantly affect the interface construction and consequently the catalytic efficiency. The enzyme-substrate contact rate affected by swelling leads to three catalytic stages. Considering the spatial barrier and distribution of lipases, a potential high-performance lipase reactor can be assembled from small-size, lamellar-like, and porous hybrid gels. The reactors also show good time storage and low temperature tolerance.

Abstract
Nanomaterials have many advantages over bulk materials, including enhanced surface-to-volume proportion as well as magnetic traits. It has been a steady rise in research with using nanomaterials in various biomedical fields in the past few decades. Constructing nanomaterials has emerged as a leading research primary concern in order to discover specialized biomedical applications. Since, their advantageous properties including chemical stability, non-toxicity, bio - compatibility, relatively high magnetization, and strong magnetic vulnerability, nanoparticles of iron oxide had already influenced implementations in different biomedical fields. Nanomaterials can be divided up into four nanomaterials such as metallic nanomaterials, bimetallic or alloy nanomaterials, metal oxide nanomaterials, as well as magnetic nanomaterials. Hence, the purpose of this review is to conduct such in discussion on emerging advancements in nanomaterials for biomedical, with such a special emphasis upon those options of nanomaterials including metallic nanomaterials: Au and Ag, bimetallic nanomaterials: Fe-Co and Fe-Pt, and metal oxides: TiO2 and CeO2. Securing this information gap will result in a better comprehension of the contribution of nanomaterial type and subsequent huge-scale applications in aspects of both their potential and challenges.
