Abstract
Objective: To provide appropriate treatment for patients, early diagnosis of the primary
origin of skeletal metastases of unknown primary origin is important. This
study aimed to assess the examination strategy effective for identifying the
primary origin of skeletal metastases of unknown primary origin. Methods: Sixty-one patients with skeletal metastases of unknown primary origin were
reviewed. The primary origin was examined via physical examination, blood
test including tumor markers, chest radiography, thoracoabdominal computed
tomography scan, positron emission tomography–computed tomography scan,
metastatic lesion biopsy, and other assessments. Examination methods
considered effective for the diagnosis of the primary origin in a specific
type of cancer were investigated. Results: The lung was the most common primary origin site, followed by the lymph
nodes, prostate, and breast. Meanwhile, biopsy was the most effective
examination, followed by positron emission tomography–computed tomography
scan and thoracoabdominal computed tomography scan. Blood tests are useful
for detecting hematological malignancies and prostate cancer. Computed
tomography scans can be used to identify cancers in the lung, breast, and
kidney, which are the common primary origins. Forty-one (67.2%) of the 61
patients with skeletal metastases of unknown primary origin were diagnosed
via the first four steps, that is, physical examination, blood test, chest
radiography, and thoracoabdominal computed tomography scan. Finally, two
patients were diagnosed with skeletal metastases of unknown primary
origin. Conclusion: The examination steps used in this study, including physical examination,
blood test including tumor markers, chest radiography, thoracoabdominal
computed tomography scan, positron emission tomography–computed tomography
scan, biopsy, and other assessments were effective in determining the
primary origin of skeletal metastases of unknown primary origin during the
initial visit.

Abstract
Evidence for uterine cancer prevention, diagnosis, and special issues from the Uterine Cancer Evidence Review Conference is summarized. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognized the need for educational materials for clinicians on the prevention and early diagnosis of gynecologic cancers. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists convened a panel of experts in evidence review from the Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology and content experts from the Society of Gynecologic Oncology to review relevant literature, best practices, and existing practice guidelines as a first step toward developing evidence-based educational materials for women's health care clinicians about uterine cancer. Panel members conducted structured literature reviews, which were then reviewed by other panel members and discussed at a virtual meeting of stakeholder professional and patient advocacy organizations in January 2021. This article is the evidence summary of the relevant literature and existing recommendations to guide clinicians in the prevention, early diagnosis, and special considerations of uterine cancer. Substantive knowledge gaps are noted and summarized to provide guidance for future research.

Abstract
Cancer is a major disease with a high mortality rate worldwide. In many countries, cancer is considered to be the second most common cause of death after cardiovascular disease. The clinical management of cancer continues to be a challenge as conventional treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, have limitations due to their toxicity profiles. Unhealthy lifestyle and poor dietary habits are the key risk factors for cancer; having a healthy diet and lifestyle may minimize the risk. Epidemiological studies have shown that a high fruit and vegetable intake in our regular diet can effectively reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancers due to the high contents of antioxidants and phytochemicals. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that phytochemicals exert significant anticancer effects due to their free radical scavenging capacity potential. There has been extensive research on the protective effects of phytochemicals in different types of cancers. This review attempts to give an overview of the etiology of different types of cancers and assesses the role of phytonutrients in the prevention of cancers, which makes the present review distinct from the others available.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Clinically, a major challenge of multiple nodule localization is puncture-related pneumothorax, which may hamper the successful localization. This study aims to investigate and compare the efficacy and safety of the simultaneous and sequential patent blue dye (PBD) injections for identifying multiple pulmonary nodules during preoperative CT-guided localization. Materials and Methods: Sixty-one consecutive patients with multiple pulmonary nodules who underwent preoperative CT-guided localization with PBD injections between January 2020 and December 2020 were retrospectively enrolled. Of these patients, 31 patients with 64 nodules who underwent simultaneous injections were designated as the simultaneous group; the remaining 30 patients with 63 nodules who underwent sequential punctures were designated as the sequential group. The clinical and radiological features, technical information, pathological results, and procedure-related variables and complications of the two groups were reviewed and analyzed. Results: The localization success rate of the simultaneous group was higher than that of the sequential group (100% [64/64] vs. 93.7% [59/63], p = 0.041). The incidences of pneumothorax (32.3 vs. 33.3%, p = 0.929) and pulmonary hemorrhage (6.3 vs. 3.0%, p = 1) were not significantly different between the two groups, and all cases were minor, which did not require further intervention. Additionally, a significantly lower radiation dose (2.7 vs. 3.5 mSv, p = 0.001) and a shorter procedure time (20.95 vs. 25.28 min, p = 0.001) were observed in the simultaneous group than in the sequential group. Conclusions: Compared with the sequential method, simultaneous PBD injections may improve the localization success rate with a shorter procedure time and less radiation exposure if the patient with multiple pulmonary nodules can be approached in a single position. Further prospective studies are needed to validate these results.

Abstract
Background: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is a marker of injury and disease as it is expressed extensively in numerous cell types and tissues. Moreover it is released during tissue breakdown, and is elevated in cancerous tissues. However, the clinical significance and prognostic value of LDH as a tumor marker have been subject to considerable discussion. Objective: In this study, clinical serum LDH data from patients with cervical cancer (CC), CC microarray data, and RNA-seq data were integrated to assess the expression of LDH in CC. Methods: A total of 204 patients with newly diagnosed CC and 204 age-matched healthy controls were included to evaluate serum LDH levels in CC and non-cancer samples. External microarrays and RNA-seq datasets were collected for the differential expression analysis of LDH in CC and non-cancer tissue samples. Kaplan-Meier survival curves of the prognostic value of LDH for CC were plotted for RNA-seq data. Functional enrichment analysis was performed for the genes co-expressed with LDH. Results: The data from our in-house clinical cases as well as the data extracted from microarrays and RNA-seq databases demonstrated significant overexpression of LDH in CC samples. Elevated LDH expression levels were associated with poor overall survival in CC patients. The genes co-expressed with LDH were significantly correlated with the biological processes and pathways, associated with nuclear division, the condensed chromosome, protein serine/threonine kinase activity, and the cell cycle. Conclusion: In conclusion, LDH upregulation might serve as a therapeutic and prognostic biomarker for CC.

Abstract
The expanding use of the phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) faces challenges in the context of using International Classification of Diseases billing codes for phenotype definition, imbalanced study population ethnicity, and constrained application of the results in research. We performed a PheWAS utilizing 136 deep phenotypes corroborated by comprehensive health check-ups in a Korean population, along with trans-ethnic comparisons through using the UK Biobank and Biobank Japan Project. Meta-analysis with Korean and Japanese population was done. The PheWAS associated 65 phenotypes with 14,101 significant variants (P < 4.92 × 10-10). Network analysis, visualization of cross-phenotype mapping, and causal inference mapping with Mendelian randomization were conducted. Among phenotype pairs from the genotype-driven cross-phenotype associations, we evaluated penetrance in correlation analysis using a clinical database. We focused on the application of PheWAS in order to make it robust and to aid the derivation of biological meaning post-PheWAS. This comprehensive analysis of PheWAS results based on a health check-up database will provide researchers and clinicians with a panoramic overview of the networks among multiple phenotypes and genetic variants, laying groundwork for the practical application of precision medicine.

Abstract
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality, and early detection is key to improving survival. However, there are no reliable blood-based tests currently available for early-stage lung cancer diagnosis. Here, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing of different early-stage lung cancers and found that lipid metabolism was broadly dysregulated in different cell types, with glycerophospholipid metabolism as the most altered lipid metabolism-related pathway. Untargeted lipidomics was carried out in an exploratory cohort of 311 participants. Through support vector machine algorithm-based and mass spectrum-based feature selection, we identified nine lipids (lysophosphatidylcholines 16:0, 18:0, and 20:4; phosphatidylcholines 16:0-18:1, 16:0-18:2, 18:0-18:1, 18:0-18:2, and 16:0-22:6; and triglycerides 16:0-18:1-18:1) as the features most important for early-stage cancer detection. Using these nine features, we developed a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (MS)-based targeted assay using multiple reaction monitoring. This target assay achieved 100.00% specificity on an independent validation cohort. In a hospital-based lung cancer screening cohort of 1036 participants examined by low-dose computed tomography and a prospective clinical cohort containing 109 participants, the assay reached more than 90.00% sensitivity and 92.00% specificity. Accordingly, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization MS imaging confirmed that the selected lipids were differentially expressed in early-stage lung cancer tissues in situ. This method, designated as Lung Cancer Artificial Intelligence Detector, may be useful for early detection of lung cancer or large-scale screening of high-risk populations for cancer prevention.

Abstract
PURPOSE Smoking after a cancer diagnosis is linked to cancer-specific and all-cause mortality, among other adverse outcomes. Yet, 10%-20% of US cancer survivors are current smokers. Implementation of evidence-based tobacco treatment in cancer care facilities is widely recommended, yet rarely accomplished. This study focuses on the early outcomes of a population-based tobacco treatment program integrated within an National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center. METHODS AND MATERIALS The sample consists of 26,365 patients seen at the cancer center during the first 18 months of program implementation. The study is a retrospective chart review of patients' tobacco use and, among current users, patients' treatment referral response. RESULTS More than 99% of patients were screened for tobacco use. Current (past month) use was observed in 21.05% of patients; cigarettes were the most popular product. Only 17.22% of current users accepted a referral for tobacco treatment; among current users who declined, the majority were not ready to quit (65.84%) or wanted to quit on their own (27.01%). Multiple demographic variables were associated with tobacco use and treatment referral response outcomes. CONCLUSION Despite cancer diagnosis presenting a teachable moment for tobacco cessation, patients with cancer may not be ready to quit or engage with treatment. Clinically proven strategies to increase motivation, prompt quit attempts, and encourage treatment use should be key components of tobacco treatment delivery to patients with cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine women's journeys with gynecologic cancer from before diagnosis through death and identify elements of their healthcare experience that warrant improvement. METHODS This exploratory study used longitudinal progress notes data from a multispecialty practice in Northern California. The sample included women with stage IV gynecological cancer diagnosed after 2011 and who died before 2018. Available progress notes from prior to diagnosis to death were qualitatively analyzed. RESULTS We identified 32 women, (median age 61 years) with mostly uterine (n=17) and ovarian (n=9) cancers and median survival of 9.2 months (min:2.9 and max:47.5). Sixteen (50%) received outpatient palliative care and 18 (56%) received hospice care. The analysis found wide variation in documentation about communication about diagnosis, prognosis, goals of care, stopping treatment, and starting hospice care. Challenges included escalating/severe symptoms, repeated urgent care/emergency department/hospital encounters, and lack of or late access to palliative and hospice care. Notes also illustrated how patient background and goals influenced care trajectory and communication. Documentation styles varied substantially, with palliative care notes more consistently documenting conversations about goals of care and psychosocial needs. CONCLUSION This analysis of longitudinal illness experience of women with advanced gynecological cancer suggests that clinicians may want to (1) prioritize earlier discussion about goals of care; (2) provide supplemental support to patients with higher needs, possibly through palliative care or navigation; and (3) write notes to enhance patient understanding now that patients may access all notes.

Abstract
Fluorescence probes with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property are fascinating and vital in biological fields due to their bright fluorescence in the solid state. In contrast, traditional AIE materials are obscured by the off-target effects and lack of spatial and temporal control. Photoactivatable materials with AIE characteristics, whose physicochemical behaviors can be remotely activated by light, provide great potential in biochemical information acquisition with high spatial and temporal resolution. By using AIE-featured photoactivatable fluorescence probes, accurate analysis of the targets of interest is possible. For example, where, when, and to what extent a process is started or stopped by manipulating the non-invasive light accurately. Thus, many researchers are enthusiastic about developing AIE-featured photoactivatable materials and mainly focus on developing novel molecules by rational molecular structure design, and exploring advanced applications by appropriate molecular functionalization. In this review, the recent achievements of photoactivatable materials with AIE characteristics from the aspects involving inherent mechanism of photoactivity, molecular design strategy, and the corresponding applications in biological fields, are summarized. The biological applications are highlighted and discussed, including photoactivatable bioimaging, diagnosis, and photo-controlled therapy. Finally, the challenges and prospects of the AIE-featured photoactivatable materials are also outlined and discussed.

Abstract
Tumor redox stimulus-responsive nanoparticulate drug delivery systems (nano-DDSs) have attracted considerable attention due to their thermodynamically stable microstructures and well-controlled drug release properties. However, drug-loading nanoparticle conformation and redox-triggered drug release mechanisms at the molecular level remain unclear. Herein, doxorubicin-conjugated polymers were constructed using disulfide bonds as linkages (PEG-SS-DOX), which loaded photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6). We integrated multiple scale dynamic simulations (density functional theory (DFT) calculation, atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations) to elucidate the assembly/drug release dynamic processing. First, it was revealed that the emergence of the calculated bond flexible angle of disulfide bonds facilitated the assembly behavior and improved the stability of conformation. Sorted by the binding model, hydrogen bonding accounted for the major interactions between polymers and photosensitive drugs. DPD simulations were further delved into to acquire knowledge regarding the drug-free self-aggregation and Ce6-loaded assembly mechanism. The results show that nano-assembly conformation not only depended on the concentration of polymers, but also were associated with the polymer-drug ratio. Different from dicarbon bond-bridging polymers, disulfide bonds would contribute to the breakage of the polymer and the rapid release of DOX and Ce6. Our findings provide deep insights into the influence of redox-responsive chemical linkages and offer theoretical guidance to the rational design of specific stimulus-responsive nano-DDSs for cancer therapy.

Abstract
Objectives Our study is aimed at exploring the knowledge and personal practice of breast cancer screening among female community pharmacists in Jordan. Methods A cross-sectional survey was carried out using a nonrandom sample selection method for pharmacists in community pharmacies. Results A total of 551 female pharmacists completed the questionnaire. The mean age of pharmacists was 29.1 ± 7.3 years (range 21–67), and most have bachelor degrees in pharmacy (89.1%). The mean score of knowledge of breast cancer signs and symptoms was 4.2 ± 1.5 out of 6 points (range 0–6). The mean score of knowledge of risk factors was 7.6 ± 1.9 out of 12 points (ranging from 2–12). The mean score for knowledge of screening guidelines was 2.8 ± 0.9 out of 4 points (range 0–4). Overall, 452 pharmacists (85.8%) had acceptable knowledge while 75 pharmacists (14.2%) had poor knowledge of breast cancer. Pharmacists surveyed were aware of the different screening methods of breast cancer. The percentage of pharmacists who has performed breast self-examination (BSE), clinical breast examination (CBE), and mammography was 46.6%, 16.5%, and 5.4%, respectively. The most common reason for the lack of BSE and CBE performance was the absence of breast symptoms. Not being at the age recommended for mammography was the most common reason for not undergoing this screening method. Knowledge and practice of screening methods were influenced by age, years of experience, geographic region, personal history of breast cancer, and educational level among community pharmacists. Conclusions This study revealed some gaps in the knowledge of breast cancer among female community pharmacists. The practice of the different screening methods was suboptimal, and variable reasons were indicated for the low uptake of these screening methods. Community pharmacists need to practice preventive behaviors to a satisfactory level to encourage women in the community to adopt similar behavior.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to compare the downstream costs and healthcare utilization associated with using low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) for lung cancer screening in patients with and without Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). METHODS Based on data from IBM MarketScan Commercial Claims Databases (2014-2018), we have identified four study cohorts: ADRD and non-ADRD patients who went through LDCT screening; ADRD and non-ADRD patients without LDCT screening. Annually healthcare utilization and cost were grouped into outpatient, inpatient, and pharmacy. We used difference-in-differences (DID) models to estimate the downstream healthcare utilization and cost associated with LDCT screening in both ADRD and non-ADRD population. We used a difference-in-difference-in-differences (DDD) model to explore whether LDCT screening was associated with higher downstream cost and healthcare utilization in ADRD population than non-ADRD population. RESULT Compared to individuals without LDCT screening, LDCT screening was associated with increased outpatient visits (2.1, 95% CI 0.7, 3.4) and outpatient cost ($2301.0, 95% CI 296.2, 4305.8) in the ADRD population and increased outpatient visits (0.6, 95% CI 0.1, 1.1) in the non-ADRD population within 1 year after screening. Compared with the non-ADRD population, LDCT screening was found to be associated with an additional 1.5 (95% CI 0.2, 2.8) outpatient visits, 0.7 (95% CI 0.1, 1.3) days of inpatient stays, and $4,960.4 (95% CI 532.7, 9388.0) in overall healthcare costs within 1-year after LDCT in the ADRD population (all p < .5). CONCLUSION The downstream cost and healthcare utilization associated with LDCT screening were found to be higher in the ADRD population compared to the average population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Trial on five plasma biomarkers (CA125, HE4, OPN, leptin, prolactin) and their possible role in differentiating benign from malignant ovarian tumors. METHODS In this unicentric prospective trial preoperative blood samples of 43 women with ovarian masses determined for ovarian surgery were analyzed. 25 patients had pathologically confirmed benign, 18 malignant ovarian tumors. Blood plasma was analyzed for CA125, HE4, OPN, leptin, prolactin and MIF by multiplex immunoassay analysis. Each single protein and a logistical regression model including all the listed proteins were tested as preoperative predictive marker for suspect ovarian masses. RESULTS Plasma CA125 was confirmed as a highly accurate tumor marker in ovarian cancer. HE4, OPN, leptin and prolactin plasma levels differed significantly between benign and malignant ovarian masses. With a logistical regression model a formula including CA125, HE4, OPN, leptin and prolactin was developed to predict malignant ovarian tumors. With a discriminatory AUC of 0.96 it showed to be a highly sensitive and specific diagnostic test for a malignant ovarian tumor. CONCLUSIONS The calculated formula with the combination of CA125, HE4, OPN, leptin and prolactin plasma levels surpasses each single marker in its diagnostic value to discriminate between benign and malignant ovarian tumors. The formula, applied to our patient population was highly accurate but should be validated in a larger cohort. TRIAL REGISTRATION Clinical Trials.gov under NCT01763125 , registered Jan. 8, 2013.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common cancer worldwide. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are recently identified as important gene regulators with critical roles in cancer biology. In this study, we focus on the effect of circ_0000376 targeting miR-384 on malignant phenotypes of NSCLC cells. METHODS Circ_0000376 and miR-384 expression in NSCLC tissue samples were measured using qRT-PCR. The association between pathological parameters and the circ_0000376 expression was analyzed as well. Human NSCLC cell lines A549 and NCI-H460 were used as cell models. CCK-8 and BrdU assay were used to assess the effect of circ_0000376 on NSCLC cell line proliferation and drug sensitivity. Transwell assay was conducted to detect the effect of circ_0000376 on migration and invasion. Further, luciferase reporter assay was employed to validate the targeting of miR-384 by circ_0000376. RESULTS Circ_0000376 expression in NSCLC clinical samples was up-regulated and this was linked to unfavorable pathological parameters. Circ_0000376 markedly accelerated the proliferation and metastasis, and enhanced chemoresistance of NSCLC cells. Mechanically, circ_0000376 overexpression could bind with miR-384 and repress its expression. CONCLUSIONS Circ_0000376 is a newly discovered oncogenic circRNA in NSCLC, and can be potentially regarded as a diagnostic biomarker and therapy target.

Abstract
Non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which accounts for ~85% of all lung cancer cases, is commonly diagnosed at an advanced stage and has a high patient mortality rate. Despite the increasing availability of treatment strategies, the prognosis of patients with NSCLC remains poor, with a low 5‑year survival rate. This poor prognosis may be associated with the tumor heterogeneity of NSCLC, as well as its acquisition and intrinsic resistance to therapeutic drugs. It has been suggested that combination therapy with telomerase inhibition may be an effective strategy for the treatment of drug‑sensitive and drug‑resistant types of cancer. Telomerase is the key enzyme for cell survival, and ~90% of human cancers maintain telomeres by activating telomerase, which is driven by the upregulation of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT). Several mechanisms of telomerase reactivation have been described in a variety of cancer types, including TERT promoter mutation, epigenetic modifications via a TERT promoter, TERT amplification, and TERT rearrangement. The aim of the present study was to comprehensively review telomerase activity and its association with the clinical characteristics and prognosis of NSCLC, as well as analyze the potential mechanism via which TERT activates telomerase and determine its potential clinical application in NSCLC. More importantly, current treatment strategies targeting TERT in NSCLC have been summarized with the aim to promote discovery of novel strategies for the future treatment of NSCLC.

Abstract
Background The growth of electronic medical records and use of patient portals have allowed for patients and health care providers to communicate via email and direct messaging between health care visits. Email patient-provider communication (PPC) may enhance traditional face-to-face PPC by allowing patients to ask questions, receive clear explanations, engage in shared decision-making, and confirm their understanding between in-person visits. Despite increasing trends in the use of email PPC since the early 2000s, few studies have evaluated associations between email PPC and the uptake of preventive services. Objective The objective of this study was to determine associations between the use of email PPC and the likelihood of undergoing breast, cervical, and colon cancer screenings among adults who have received health care in the past 12 months. Methods Secondary, cross-sectional data from the 2011-2015 National Health Interview Survey were combined and analyzed. For each cancer screening, inclusion criteria were based on the age of screening recommendations and prior history of cancer diagnosis (n=35,912 for breast, n=48,512 for cervical, and n=45,884 for colon). The independent variable was whether adults used email PPC in the past 12 months (yes or no). The dependent variables were whether (1) women (aged ≥40 years) received a mammogram in the past 12 months; (2) women (aged 21-65 years) received a Pap test in the past 12 months; and (3) individuals (aged ≥50 years) received a colon cancer screening in the past 12 months. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted. Results Adults who reported receiving all three cancer screenings in the past 12 months were more likely to be non-Hispanic White; be married or living with a partner; have a bachelor’s degree or higher education level; have health insurance coverage; and perceive their health as excellent, very good, or good (all P<.001). Men were more likely to receive colon cancer screenings than women (P<.001). Multivariable logistic regression models showed women who used email to communicate with their health care providers had greater odds of receiving breast (odds ratio [OR] 1.32, 95% CI 1.20-1.44) and cervical (OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.02-1.20) cancer screenings than women who did not use email PPC. Adults who used email to communicate with their health care providers had 1.55 times greater odds (95% CI 1.42-1.69) of receiving a colon cancer screening than those who did not use email PPC. Conclusions Our results demonstrate that email PPC is a marker of increased likelihood of adults completing age-appropriate cancer screenings, particularly breast, cervical, and colon cancer screenings. More research is needed to examine other factors related to the reasons for and quality of email PPC between patients and health care providers and determine avenues for health education and intervention to further explore this association.

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer, a highly malignant disease, is characterized by rapid progression and early metastasis. Although the integrative treatment of pancreatic cancer has made great progress, the prognosis of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer remains extremely poor. In recent years, with the advancements in tumor immunology, immunotherapy has become a promising remedy for pancreatic cancer. Natural killer (NK) cells are the key lymphocytes in the innate immune system. NK cell function does not require antigen pre-sensitization and is not major histocompatibility complex restricted. By targeting tumors or virus-infected cells, the cells play a key role in immune surveillance. Although several questions about NK cells in pancreatic cancer still need to be further studied, there are extensive theories supporting the clinical application prospects of NK cell immunotherapy in pancreatic cancer. Since very few studies have evaluated the role of NK cells in pancreatic cancer, this review provides a comprehensive update of the role of NK cells in pancreatic cancer immunotherapy.

Abstract
There is a growing literature on the association between neighborhood contexts and cancer survivorship. To understand the current trends and the gaps in the literature, we aimed to answer the following questions: To what degree, and how, has cancer survivorship research accounted for neighborhood-level effects? What neighborhood metrics have been used to operationalize neighborhood factors? To what degree do the neighborhood level metrics considered in cancer research reflect neighborhood development as identified in the Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) guidelines? We first conducted a review guided by PRISMA extension for scoping review of the extant literature on neighborhood effects and cancer survivorship outcomes from January 2000 to January 2021. Second, we categorized the studied neighborhood metrics under six main themes. Third, we assessed the findings based on the LEED-ND guidelines to identify the most relevant neighborhood metrics in association with areas of focus in cancer survivorship care and research. The search results were scoped to 291 relevant peer-reviewed journal articles. Results show that survivorship disparities, primary care, and weight management are the main themes in the literature. Additionally, most articles rely on neighborhood SES as the primary (or only) examined neighborhood level metric. We argue that the expansion of interdisciplinary research to include neighborhood metrics endorsed by current paradigms in salutogenic urban design can enhance the understanding of the role of socioecological context in survivorship care and outcomes.

Abstract
Pluronic polymers (pluronics) are a unique class of synthetic triblock copolymers containing hydrophobic polypropylene oxide (PPO) and hydrophilic polyethylene oxide (PEO) arranged in the PEO-PPO-PEO manner. Due to their excellent biocompatibility and amphiphilic properties, pluronics are an ideal and promising biological material, which is widely used in drug delivery, disease diagnosis, and treatment, among other applications. Through self-assembly or in combination with other materials, pluronics can form nano carriers with different morphologies, representing a kind of multifunctional pharmaceutical excipients. In recent years, the utilization of pluronic-based multi-functional drug carriers in tumor treatment has become widespread, and various responsive drug carriers are designed according to the characteristics of the tumor microenvironment, resulting in major progress in tumor therapy. This review introduces the specific role of pluronic-based polymer drug delivery systems in tumor therapy, focusing on their physical and chemical properties as well as the design aspects of pluronic polymers. Finally, using newer literature reports, this review provides insights into the future potential and challenges posed by different pluronic-based polymer drug delivery systems in tumor therapy.

Abstract
Currently, multidrug resistance (MDR) is one of the major reasons for failure in clinical cancer chemotherapy. Overexpression of the ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which significantly increases the efflux of anticancer drugs from tumor cells, enhances MDR. In the past few decades, four generations of P-gp inhibitors have appeared. However, they are limited in clinical application due to their severe toxic side effects. As a P-gp inhibitor and carrier for loading chemotherapy agents, TPGS has received increasing attention due to its advantages and unique properties of reversing MDR. TPGS is an amphipathic agent that increases the solubility of most chemotherapy drugs and decreases severe side effects. In addition, TPGS is an excellent carrier with P-gp-inhibiting ability. In this review, we summarize the latest articles on TPGS-based nanodelivery systems to prevent MDR.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Breast and cervical cancers are screen-detectable; yet, challenges exist with ensuring uptake of mammography and Pap smear. Family, a central factor in developing knowledge to carry out health promotion behaviors, may be an asset to improving intention to screen among non-adherent women from underrepresented minority groups. We explored familial cancer; communication; and breast and cervical screening intention among non-adherent Black, Latina, and Arab women in the United States who participated in a randomized controlled trial of the Kin KeeperSM Cancer Prevention Intervention study. The intervention was a culturally-targeted breast and cervical cancer literacy tool for Black, Latina, and Arab women, consisting of two family-focused education sessions on the cancers, their screening guidelines, and risk-reducing health-related behaviors. METHODS For this secondary analysis, we assessed family cancer history, family communication, and screening intention for breast and cervical cancer in age-eligible, non-adherent participants. Descriptive statistics examined sample characteristics of the intervention and control groups. Odds ratios were estimated from logistic regression modeling to assess the intervention and sample characteristic effects on screening intention. RESULTS Of the 516 participants, 123 and 98 were non-adherent to breast and cervical cancer screening, respectively. The intervention (OR = 1.95 for mammography; OR = 1.62 for Pap smear) and highly communicative (OR = 2.57 for mammography; OR = 3.68 for Pap smear) families reported greater screening intention. Family history of cancer only increased screening intention for mammography (OR = 2.25). CONCLUSION Family-focused approaches supporting communication may increase breast and cervical cancer screening intention among non-adherent, underrepresented minority groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate the association between postdiagnostic dairy intake and survival among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS This study analyzed data from the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS). Postdiagnostic dairy intake and other dietary and lifestyle factors were obtained from validated questionnaires. Individual dairy items including milk, cheese, yogurt, and so on were reported, and total, high-fat, and low-fat dairy intakes were derived. RESULTS A total of 1753 eligible CRC cases were identified until 2012, from which 703 deaths were documented after a median follow-up time of 8.2 y, and 242 were due to CRC. Overall, when comparing those who consumed 21+ servings/wk with <7 servings/wk, postdiagnostic total dairy intake did not show significant associations with CRC-specific mortality (HR: 1.35; 95% CI: 0.85, 2.13) or overall mortality (HR: 1.28; 95% CI: 0.98, 1.67). However, high-fat dairy, including whole milk and cream cheese, was positively associated with overall mortality (HR: 1.33; 95% CI: 1.08, 1.65) but not significantly with CRC-specific mortality (HR: 1.31; 95% CI: 0.91, 1.90) when comparing those who consumed 10.5+ servings/wk with <3.5 servings/wk. For the same comparison, low-fat dairy, including skim or nonfat milk and cottage cheese, was inversely associated with overall mortality (HR: 0.74; 95% CI: 0.59, 0.92) but not CRC-specific mortality (HR: 0.91; 95% CI: 0.63, 1.29). CONCLUSIONS Total dairy products intake did not show significant association with CRC-specific or overall mortality. However, high intake of high-fat dairy products was associated with increased mortality, whereas low-fat dairy was associated with lower risk of overall mortality.

Abstract
Background Considering the high morbidity and mortality of lung cancer and the high incidence of pulmonary nodules, clearly distinguishing benign from malignant lung nodules at an early stage is of great significance. However, determining the kind of lung nodule which is more prone to lung cancer remains a problem worldwide. Methods A total of 480 patients with pulmonary nodule data were collected from Shandong, China. We assessed the clinical characteristics and computed tomography (CT) imaging features among pulmonary nodules in patients who had undergone video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy from 2013 to 2018. Preliminary selection of features was based on a statistical analysis using SPSS. We used WEKA to assess the machine learning models using its multiple algorithms and selected the best decision tree model using its optimization algorithm. Results The combination of decision tree and logistics regression optimized the decision tree without affecting its AUC. The decision tree structure showed that lobulation was the most important feature, followed by spiculation, vessel convergence sign, nodule type, satellite nodule, nodule size and age of patient. Conclusions Our study shows that decision tree analyses can be applied to screen individuals for early lung cancer with CT. Our decision tree provides a new way to help clinicians establish a logical diagnosis by a stepwise progression method, but still needs to be validated for prospective trials in a larger patient population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Challenges can exist when framing the decision question in a cost-effectiveness analysis, particularly when there is disagreement among experts on relevant comparators. Using prostate cancer screening and recent developments in risk stratification, early-detection biomarkers, and diagnostic technologies as a case study, we report a modified Delphi approach to handle decision-question uncertainty. METHODS The study involved two rounds of anonymous online questionnaires to identify the prostate cancer screening strategies that international researchers, clinicians and decision makers felt important to consider in a cost-effectiveness model. Both purposive and snowball sampling were used to recruit experts. The questionnaire was based on a review of the literature and was piloted for language, comprehension and ease of use prior to dissemination. In Round 1, respondents indicated their preferred screening strategy (including no screening) through a series of multiple-choice questions. The responses informed a set of 13 consensus statements, which respondents ranked their agreement with on a 9-point Likert scale (Round 2). Consensus was considered reached if > 70% of participants indicated agreement and < 15% indicated disagreement. RESULTS Twenty participants completed Round 1 and 17 completed Round 2. Consensus was shown towards comparing no formal screening, age-based, and risk-based strategies. The risk-based approaches included screening only higher-risk men, using shorter screening intervals for higher-risk men, screening higher-risk men at an earlier age, and tailoring screening intervals based on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level at a previous test. There was agreement that inclusion of MRI in the pathway should be considered, but disagreement on the inclusion of new biomarkers. CONCLUSION In disease areas where technologies are rapidly evolving, a modified Delphi approach provides a useful tool to identify relevant comparators in an economic evaluation.

Abstract
Background & objectives: Breast cancer remains the most common malignancy among women worldwide. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to play critical roles in tumour initiation and progression. This study was aimed to evaluate the potential role of lncRNA highly upregulated in liver cancer (HULC) in breast cancer. Methods: The expression of HULC was evaluated in breast cancer patients and cell lines using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Small interfering RNA-based knockdown was also employed to study the potential role of HULC in breast cancer cell lines including ZR-75-1, MCF7 and MDA-MB-231. Results: HULC was significantly upregulated in tumour tissues compared to non-tumoural margins (P<0.001). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis demonstrated the biomarker potential of HULC (ROCAUC=0.78, P<0.001). The HULC knockdown induced apoptosis and suppressed cellular migration in breast cancer cell lines. Interpretation & conclusions: Our results indicated that HULC was upregulated in breast cancer and might play a role in tumourigenesis. The HULC may have a potential to be exploited as a new biomarker and therapeutic target in breast cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare outcomes of symptomatic and asymptomatic women with endometrial cancer and a preoperative diagnosis of an endometrial polyp. DESIGN An Israel Gynecologic Oncology Group multi-center retrospective cohort study. METHODS Of 635 patients with endometrial cancer and a preoperative diagnosis of an endometrial polyp who underwent surgery between 2002 and 2014 in one of 11 centers in Israel were divided into two groups according to the presence of bleeding symptoms. Outcome measures included recurrence-free survival, disease-specific survival and overall survival. Survival data were plotted according to the method of Kaplan and Meier and compared using the log-rank test. RESULTS There were 513 symptomatic and 122 asymptomatic women with endometrial cancer and a preoperative diagnosis of an endometrial polyp. The median follow-up was 52 months (range 12-120 months). There were no differences between patients who experienced bleeding and those who did not in 5-year recurrence-free survival (85.2 % vs. 85.7 %; p=0.83, respectively), disease-specific survival (88.2 % vs. 89.2 %; p=0.71, respectively), or overall survival (80.2% vs. 78.4 %; p=0.97, respectively). CONCLUSION The diagnosis of endometrial cancer in patients with asymptomatic endometrial polyps is not associated with improved outcomes as compared with patients with bleeding. In the absence of factors indicating a high risk of endometrial cancer, clinical and sonographic follow-up is the advised management strategy for these patients.

Abstract
Introduction: This study assesses whether women with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) risk behavior have higher Papanicolaou (Pap), human papillomavirus (HPV), and HIV testing, and whether the level of selected variables associated with HIV risk behavior correlate with greater testing. Association between HIV risk situations and HPV vaccination is also evaluated. Methods: A cross-sectional assessment was performed in women at age 18 years and older completing the 2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey. Independent variables considered and adjusted for, included age, race/ethnicity, marital status, education, annual household income, smoking status, and health care status. Results: Prevalence of a Pap test in the past 3 years was 66.2%, of HPV test in the past 5 years was 40.2%, and of HIV test ever was 41.9%. HIV risk situations applied to 4.9% women (15.2% in ages 18-24, 7.2% in 25-44, 1.9% in 45-64, and 0.6% in 65 years and older). Adjusted odds (95% confidence interval) of a Pap, HPV, or HIV test according to HIV risk behavior status were 1.5 (1.3-1.8), 1.6 (1.4-1.8), and 2.6 (2.3-2.9), respectively. The positive association between HIV risk behavior and Pap testing depends on marital status. HIV risk behavior significantly correlates with several variables, which, in turn, correlate with testing. There was no association between HIV risk behavior and HPV vaccination. Conclusions: Women with HIV risk behavior are more likely to pursue Pap, HPV, and HIV testing. The significant positive associations are largest for HIV testing and smallest for Pap testing, after adjustment for the selected variables. HIV risk behavior is not associated with HPV vaccination.

Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the performance of readout-segmented echo-planar imaging DWI (rs-EPI DWI) in detecting and characterizing breast cancers in a large Chinese cohort with comparison to dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI). Methods: The institutional review board approved this retrospective study with waived written informed consent. A total of 520 women (mean age, 43.1- ± 10.5-years) were included from July 2013 to October 2019. First, the ability of rs-EPI DWI in detecting breast lesions identified by DCE-MRI was evaluated. The lesion conspicuity of rs-EPI-DWI and DCE-MRI was compared using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. With pathology as a reference, the performance of rs-EPI DWI and DCE-MRI in distinguishing breast cancers was evaluated and compared using the Chi-square test. Results: Of 520 women, 327/520 (62.9%) patients had 423 lesions confirmed by pathology with 203 benign and 220 malignant lesions. The rs-EPI DWI can detect 90.8% (659/726) (reader 1) and 90.6% (663/732) (reader 2) of lesions identified by DCE-MRI. The lesion visibility was superior for DCE-MRI than rs-EPI-DWI (all p < 0.05). With pathology as a reference, the sensitivities and specificities of rs-EPI DWI in diagnosing breast cancers were 95.9% (211/220) and 85.7% (174/203) for reader 1 and 97.7% (215/220) and 86.2% (175/203) for reader 2. No significant differences were found for the performance of DCE-MRI and rs-EPI DWI in discriminating breast cancers (all p > 0.05). Conclusions: Although with an inferior lesion visibility, rs-EPI DWI can detect about 90% of breast lesions identified by DCE-MRI and has comparable diagnostic capacity to that of DCE-MRI in identifying breast cancer.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy due to the late diagnoses at advanced stages, drug resistance and the high recurrence rate. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop new techniques to diagnose and monitor ovarian cancer patients. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy has great potential in the diagnosis of this disease, as well as the real-time monitoring of cancer development and chemoresistance. As a noninvasive, simple and convenient technique, it can not only distinguish the molecular differences between normal and malignant tissues, but also be used to identify the characteristics of different types of ovarian cancer. FTIR spectroscopy is also widely used in monitoring cancer cells in response to antitumor drugs, distinguishing cells in different growth states, and identifying new synthetic drugs. In this paper, the applications of FTIR spectroscopy for ovarian cancer diagnosis and other works carried out so far are described in detail.

Abstract
Sulfur mustard (SM) is a blister chemical warfare agent with severe cytotoxicity and genotoxicity. It can extensively alkylate important macromolecules in organisms, such as proteins, DNA, and lipids, and produce a series of metabolites, among which the characteristic ones can be used as biomarkers. The exact toxicological mechanisms of SM remain unclear but mainly involve the DNA lesions induced by alkylation and oxidative stress caused by glutathione depletion. Various methods have been used to analyze DNA damage caused by SM. Among these methods, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) technology stands out and makes it possible to observe damage in view of biomarkers induced by SM. Sample preparation is critical for detection by LC-MS/MS and mainly includes DNA isolation, adduct hydrolysis, and adduct purification. Moreover, optimization of chromatographic conditions, selection of MS transitions, and quantitative strategies are also essential. SM-DNA adducts are generally considered to be N7-HETEG, O6-HETEG, N7-BisG, and N3-HETEA. This article proposes some other possibilities of SM-DNA adducts for the identification of SM genotoxicity.

Abstract
Women identified with an increased risk of breast cancer due to mutations in cancer susceptibility genes or a familial history of breast cancer undergo tailored screening with the goal of detecting tumors earlier, when potential curative interventions are still possible. Ideally, screening would identify signs of carcinogenesis even before a tumor is detectable by imaging. This could be achieved by timely signaling of altered biomarker levels for precancerous processes in liquid biopsies. Currently, the Nipple Aspirate Fluid (NAF) and the Trial Early Serum Test BREAST cancer (TESTBREAST), both ongoing, prospective, multicenter studies, are investigating biomarkers in liquid biopsies to improve breast cancer screening in high-risk women. The NAF study focuses on changes over time in miRNA expression levels both in blood and NAF samples, whereas the TESTBREAST study analyzes changes in protein levels in blood samples at sequential interval timepoints. These within-subject changes are studied in relation to later occurrence of breast cancer using a nested case-control design. These longitudinal studies face their own challenges in execution, such as hindrances in logistics and in sample processing that were difficult to anticipate. This article offers insight into those challenges and concurrently aims to provide useful strategies for the set-up of similar studies.See related commentary by Sauter, p. 429.

Abstract
Introduction: Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among Vietnamese females. By detecting precancerous cells, Pap test screening plays a critical role in the fight against cervical cancer. The present study aims to investigate health-related factors associated with receipt of Pap test among Vietnamese females living in rural Vietnam, particularly examining the correlation between awareness level of the Pap test and the receiving of Pap test. Methods: Anderson’s Behavioral Model of Health Services Use was utilized as the present study’s theoretical framework. A self-administrated questionnaire was completed among 193 females residing in Quantri City, Vietnam. Results: Only 15.5% (N=30) of participants in our sample have had a Pap test. Pap test awareness (OR = 18.38, p<.001) was a strong predictor of Pap test receipt. Participants who had heard about Pap test were 18.38 times more likely to take a Pap test compared to those who had no prior knowledge. Besides the awareness, variables including employment (OR = .18, p<.05), and health insurance coverage (OR = 10.75, p<.05) were significantly associated with Pap test uptake. Conclusion: Findings from the present study suggests interventions should be provided through public health efforts to enhance awareness of Pap test by aiming at increasing primary prevention of cervical cancer, especially among Vietnamese women living in rural areas, in order to reduce cancer health disparities.

Abstract
Oropharyngeal, cervical, vulvar, and anal cancers share a common risk factor of HPV infection. HPV vaccination is currently recommended at age 11 or 12 to prevent new HPV infections for all genders with catch-up vaccination recommened up to age 26. Despite the known effectiveness of HPV vaccination to prevent HPV-related cancer, there is continued low uptake in the United States; only 40% of eligible persons were vaccinated in 2018, though rates are 70% among teenagers. Current American Cancer Society cancer screening guidelines recommend cervical cancer screening, but do not have specific recommendations for screening for other HPV-related cancers. Oropharyngeal cancer precursors have yet to be identified, and there are currently no routine screening tests for oropharyngeal cancer recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and American Cancer Society recommend cervical cancer screening for women at average risk up to age 65, and screening guidelines do not currently differ by HPV vaccination status. Primary HPV DNA testing was first approved for cervical cancer screening in 2016 and was shown to be superior for cervical cancer prevention. Vulvar and anal cancer precursors have been identified, but optimal screening remains unclear. Examination of the anal canal and perianus is best performed by trained clinicians using high-resolution anoscopy, and effectiveness of using high-resolution anoscopy to detect and treat anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions to prevent cancer is actively being researched. Current multistep approaches to control HPV-related malignancies include HPV vaccination coupled with cervical cancer screening or surveillance for oropharyngeal, vulvar, and anal cancers.

Abstract
Chinese Americans have among the lowest rates of up-to-date cancer screening in the United States. Fatalistic health beliefs are also common in this population and can lead to decreased healthcare utilization. We sought to understand how these fatalistic beliefs are associated with cancer screening behaviors in this underserved population. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 732 Chinese women from the greater Chinatown area of Chicago, Illinois. Surveyed questions included sociodemographic information, self-reported healthcare utilization and cancer screening behaviors. The majority of respondents were older than 50, spoke Chinese, had less than a college education, public or no medical insurance, and an annual income < $20,000. Approximately 20% had never received Papanicolaou or mammogram screening. Fatalistic beliefs were common and associated with increased health-seeking behaviors and appropriate Pap and mammogram screening. In this cohort of Chinese American immigrant women in an urban Chinatown community, fatalistic cancer beliefs were prevalent and associated with increased health-seeking and positive cancer screening behaviors. This previously unreported relationship could be leveraged in improving health outcomes of an underserved population.

Abstract
Background The prognosis for patients with colorectal-cancer liver metastases (CRLM) after curative surgery remains poor and shows great heterogeneity. Early recurrence, defined as tumor recurrence within 6 months of curative surgery, is associated with poor survival, requiring earlier detection and intervention. This study aimed to develop and validate a bedside model based on clinical parameters to predict early recurrence in CRLM patients and provide insight into post-operative surveillance strategies. Material and methods A total of 202 consecutive CRLM patients undergoing curative surgeries between 2012 and 2019 were retrospectively enrolled and randomly assigned to the training (n = 150) and validation (n = 52) sets. Baseline information and radiological, pathological, and laboratory findings were extracted from medical records. Predictive factors for early recurrence were identified via a multivariate logistic-regression model to develop a predictive nomogram, which was validated for discrimination, calibration, and clinical application. Results Liver-metastases number, lymph-node suspicion, neurovascular invasion, colon/rectum location, albumin and post-operative carcinoembryonic antigen, and carbohydrate antigen 19–9 levels (CA19–9) were independent predictive factors and were used to construct the nomogram for early recurrence after curative surgery. The area under the curve was 0.866 and 0.792 for internal and external validation, respectively. The model significantly outperformed the clinical risk score and Beppu’s model in our data set. In the lift curve, the nomogram boosted the detection rate in post-operative surveillance by two-fold in the top 30% high-risk patients. Conclusion Our model for early recurrence in CRLM patients after curative surgeries showed superior performance and could aid in the decision-making for selective follow-up strategies.

Abstract
Over the last 50 years cancer mortality has decreased, the biggest contributor to this decrease has been the widespread adoption of cancer screening protocols. These guidelines are based on large population studies, which often do not capture the non-gender conforming portion of the population. The aim of this review is to cover current guidelines and practice patterns of cancer screening in transgender patients, and, where evidence-based data is lacking, to draw from cis-gender screening guidelines to suggest best-practice screening approaches for transgender patients. We performed a systematic search of PubMed, Google Scholar and Medline, using all iterations of the follow search terms: transgender, gender non-conforming, gender non-binary, cancer screening, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, anal cancer, and all acceptable abbreviations. Given the limited amount of existing literature inclusion was broad. After eliminating duplicates and abstract, all queries yielded 85 unique publications. There are currently very few transgender specific cancer screening recommendations. All the guidelines discussed in this manuscript were designed for cis-gender patients and applied to the transgender community based on small case series. Currently, there is not sufficient to evidence to determine the long-term effects of gender-affirming hormone therapy on an individual’s cancer risk. Established guidelines for cisgender individuals and can reasonably followed for transgender patients based on what organs remain in situ. In the future comprehensive cancer screening and prevention initiatives centered on relevant anatomy and high-risk behaviors specific for transgender men and women are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although potentially curable with early detection and timely treatment, breast cancer (BC) and cervical cancer (CC) remain leading causes of death for Colombian women. Lack of education, complicated administrative processes, and geographic limitations hinder early cancer detection. Today, technological tools permeate the society and could assess user risk, deliver customized information, and provide care coordination. We evaluated the effectiveness of a free mobile application (mApp) to reach women, understand misconceptions, identify users at risk for BC and/or CC, and coordinate screening tests in Cali, Colombia. METHODS The mApp was developed and advertised in four healthcare facility waiting rooms. It used educational, evaluative, and risk factor questions followed by brief explanations to assess the population's knowledge, educate on BC and/or CC, and identify users in need of screening test(s). Women who required screening were navigated and enrolled in the national cancer program. RESULTS From August 2017 to August 2019, 1,043 women downloaded the mApp. BC misconceptions included beliefs that BC can be prevented (87%), obesity does not increase the risk of BC (49%), and deodorant causes BC (17%). CC misconceptions included that pap smears should not be performed while sexually active (64%), vaginal pain is an early sign of CC (44%), and only women contract human papilloma virus (33%). Overall, 29% (303) were identified as at risk and needed a screening test, with 32% (98) successfully screened. DISCUSSION mApps can identify women at risk for BC and/or CC, detect barriers to early cancer detection, and help coordinate screening test(s). This technology has widespread applications and may be useful in other underserved communities.

Abstract
Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) has a poor prognosis and is prone to liver metastasis. The KAI1/CD82 gene inhibits PC metastasis. This study aimed to explore differential metabolites and enrich the pathways in serum samples between PC and liver metastasis nude mouse models stably expressing KAI1/CD82. Methods: KAI1/CD82-PLV-EF1α-MCS-IRES-Puro vector and PANC1 cell line stably expressing KAI1/CD82 were constructed for the first time. This cell line was used to construct 3 PC nude mouse models and 3 liver metastasis nude mouse models. The different metabolites and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) and human metabolome database (HMDB) enrichment pathways were analyzed using the serum samples of the 2 groups of nude mouse models on the basis of untargeted ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry platform. Results: KAI1/CD82-PLV-EF1α-MCS-IRES-Puro vector and PANC1 cell line stably expressing KAI1/CD82 were constructed successfully, and all nude mouse models survived and developed cancers. Among the 1233 metabolites detected, 18 metabolites (9 upregulated and 9 downregulated) showed differences. In agreement with the literature data, the most significant differences between both groups were found in the levels of bile acids (taurocholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid), glycine, prostaglandin E2, vitamin D, guanosine monophosphate, and inosine. Bile recreation, primary bile acid biosynthesis, and purine metabolism KEGG pathways and a series of HMDB pathways (P < .05) contained differential metabolites that may be associated with liver metastasis from PC. However, the importance of these metabolites on PC liver metastases remains to be elucidated. Conclusions: Our findings suggested that the metabolomic approach may be a useful method to detect potential biomarkers in PC.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women and men combined, and it is the second cause of cancer deaths in women after lung cancer. In Lebanon, the same epidemiological profile applies where BC is the leading cancer among Lebanese females, representing 38.2% of all cancer cases. As per the Center for Disease Control, there was a decline in BC mortality rate from 2003 to 2012 reflecting the adoption of national mammographic screening as the gold standard for BC detection by Western countries. The aim of this review study is to summarize current recommendations for BC screening and the available modalities for detecting BC in different countries, particularly in Lebanon. It also aims at exploring the impact of screening campaigns on BC early stage diagnosis in Lebanon. Despite the considerable debates whether screening mammograms provides more harm than benefits, screening awareness should be stressed since its benefits far outweigh its risks. In fact, the majority of BC mortality cases in Western countries are non-preventable by the use of screening mammograms alone. As such, Lebanon adopted a public focus on education and awareness campaigns encouraging early BC screening. Several studies showed the impact of early detection that is reflected by an increase in early stage disease and a decrease in more aggressive stages. Further studies should shed the light on the effect of awareness campaigns on early breast cancer diagnosis and clinical down staging at a national scope; therefore, having readily available data on pre- and post-adoption of screening campaigns is crucial for analyzing trends in mortality of breast cancer origin and reduction in advanced stages diseases. There is still room for future studies evaluating post-campaigns knowledge, attitudes, and practices of women having participated, emphasizing on the barriers refraining Lebanese women to contribute in BC screening campaigns.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a commonly diagnosed cancer. Previous studies investigating the relationship between periodontal disease (PD) and CRC showed controversial conclusions. This meta-analysis is to explore the association between PD and CRC. METHODS Observational studies that explore the association between CRC and PD were included in this meta-analysis. A comprehensive literature search in 7 electronic databases to identify all relevant studies published prior to February 2020. The Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale was used to evaluate the quality each study. The pooled relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to estimate the association between the PD and CRC risk. RESULTS A total of 838 articles were obtained from database searching and 4 articles were obtained from other sources, and 13 articles with 14 studies involving 634,744 participants were included. An association between PD and increased CRC incidence was found, periodontal disease patients were 21% (95%CI, [1.06, 1.38], I2 =83.9%) more likely to develop colorectal cancer than people with healthy oral cavity. But there is no significant association between PD and CRC mortality. The heterogeneity of this meta-analysis was relatively high, I2 was 83.9% (95%CI, [72.7%, 90.5%]), chi-squared of Q test was 62.18, but sensitivity analysis confirmed the stability of the result. Funnel plot, Egger's test and Begg's test found no publication bias of analysis. CONCLUSION The current meta-analysis demonstrates an association between PD and CRC, indicating that early CRC screening is necessary for people with poor oral health, and oral health improvement might be beneficial for reducing CRC risk.

Abstract
Few studies have examined how different qualities and modes (face-to-face vs electronic) of patient-provider communication (PPC) influence cancer screening uptake. Our objective was to determine whether receiving a breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening is influenced by (1) qualities of face-to-face and (2) the use of e-mail PPC. We analyzed Health Information National Trends Survey 4, cycles 1 to 4 data. To assess qualities of face-to-face PPC, adults reported how often physicians spent enough time with them, explained so they understood, gave them a chance to ask questions, addressed feelings and emotions, involved them in decisions, confirmed understanding, and helped them with uncertainty. Adults reported whether they used e-mail PPC. We used multivariable logistic regression to evaluate the odds of receiving cancer screenings based on face-to-face and e-mail PPC. Adults whose health-care providers involved them in decision-making had highest odds of receiving breast (odds ratio [OR] = 1.38; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.11-1.71), cervical (OR = 1.30; 95% CI = 1.06-1.60), and colorectal (OR = 1.25; 95% CI = 1.03-1.51) cancer screenings. No significant associations were observed between e-mail PPC and cancer screenings. More research is needed to explore this association.

Abstract
Rationale and Objectives Evaluate ability of radiological semantic traits assessed on multi-window computed tomography (CT) to predict lung cancer risk. Materials and Methods A total of 199 participants were investigated, including 60 incident lung cancers and 139 benign positive controls. Twenty lung window features and 2 mediastinal window features were extracted and scored on a point scale in three screening rounds. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the association of these radiological traits with the risk of developing lung cancer. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value (PPV) were computed to evaluate the best predictive model. Results Combining mediastinal window-specific features with the lung window features-based model significantly improves performance compared to individual window features. Model performance is consistent both at baseline and the first follow-up scan, with an AUROC increased from 0.822 to 0.871 (p = 0.009) and from 0.877 to 0.917 (p = 0.008), respectively, for single to multi-window feature models. We also find that the multi-window CT based model showed better specificity and PPV, with PPV at the second follow-up scan improved to 0.953. Conclusion We find combining window semantic features improves model performance in identifying cancerous nodules. We also find that lung window features are more informative compared to mediastinal features in predicting malignancy.

Abstract
Malignant tumor represents a major reason for death in the world and its incidence is growing rapidly. Developing the tools for early diagnosis is possibly a promising way to offer diverse therapeutic options and promote the survival chance. Secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1), also called Osteopontin (OPN), has been demonstrated overexpressed in many cancers. However, the specific role of SPP1 in prognosis, gene mutations, and changes in gene and miRNA expression in human cancers is unclear. In this report, we found SPP1 expression was higher in most of the human cancers. Based on Kaplan-Meier plotter and the PrognoScan database, we found high SPP1 expression was significantly correlated with poor survival in various cancers. Using a large dataset of colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), head and neck cancer (HNSC), lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) patients from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) databases, this study identified 22 common genes and 2 common miRNAs. GO, and KEGG paths analyses suggested that SPP1 correlated genes were mainly involved in positive regulation of immune cell activation and infiltration. SPP1-associated genes and miRNAs regulatory networks suggested that their interactions may play a role in the progression of four selected cancers. SPP1 showed significant positive correlation with the immunocyte and immune marker sets infiltrating degrees. All of these data provide strong evidence that SPP1 may promote tumor progress through interacting with carcinogenic genes and facilitating immune cells’ infiltration in COAD, HNSC, LUAD, and LUSC.
