Abstract
Oral diseases, including periodontal disorders, oral cancer, periodontitis, and mucositis are the major challenges for both patients and healthcare providers. These conditions often involve inflammation, oxidative stress, and impaired cellular processes, leading to symptoms ranging from discomfort to severe debilitation. Conventional treatments for such oral diseases exhibit constraints, prompting the investigation of innovative therapeutic approaches. Considering the anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-cancer effects of melatonin, this study was carried out to investigate the potential protective effects of melatonin in mitigating the severity of oral diseases. Studies indicate that melatonin influences the differentiation of periodontal stem cells, inhibits oral cancer progression, reduces inflammation associated with periodontitis, and alleviates the severity of oral mucositis. Melatonin has demonstrated potential efficacy in both preclinical and clinical investigations; however, findings are frequently heterogeneous and contingent upon contextual factors. This review provides a comprehensiveoverview of current state of knowledge in this domain, elucidating the multifaceted role that melatonin may assume in combatingoral diseases. Further research should be directed toward determining the most effective dosing, timing, and administration methods for melatonin-based therapies for oral diseases.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the prognostic effect of pretreatment serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. METHODS A total of 498 patients diagnosed with stage III-IVA nasopharyngeal carcinoma between January 2013 and December 2016 were involved in this study. The X-tile program was used to determine the cut-off value of pretreatment serum SOD activity based on disease-free survival. Kaplan-Meier methods and Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate the impact of serum SOD levels on survival outcomes. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to compare the prognostic value of clinical stage, pretreatment serum SOD level, and the combination of them regarding disease-free survival. RESULTS Based on the X-tile plot, the optimal cutoff value of pretreatment serum SOD activity for disease-free survival was 146.0U/mL. As a dichotomous variable, SOD was significantly higher in non-keratinizing differentiated disease (P = 0.027) and early T stage (P = 0.011). Compared with the lower subset, higher SOD activity predicted an inferior 3-year rates of overall survival (84.6 vs. 94.7%, P < 0.001), distant metastasis-free survival (78.3 vs. 92.8%, P < 0.001) and disease-free survival (78.2 vs. 92.8%, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis verified that the SOD activity was an independent prognostic indicator to predict distant metastasis, disease progression, and death. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the combination was superior to that of clinical stage or SOD alone for disease-free survival (both P < 0.01). CONCLUSION Serological SOD activity before treatment is an important prognostic indicator for patients with stage III-IV non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma undergoing chemoradiation therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Experimental and clinical studies have shown that vitamins A and E can inhibit cancer formation and progression. The unfavourable status of these vitamins can represent risk factors for the disease. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between the nutritional status of vitamins A and E (serum levels and dietary intake) and histopathological outcomes in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (PTC) patients. SUBJECTS/METHODS We applied a cross-sectional study (2017-2018) and quantified retinol (ROH) and α-tocopherol (TOH) serum levels and vitamins dietary intake of 46 PTC patients. Serum vitamins were quantified by high efficiency liquid chromatography and vitamins dietary intake was analyzed by 24-hr dietary recalls. RESULTS Patients with lower ROH serum levels were more likely to present lymph node metastasis and/or angiolymphatic invasion (p = 0.025). In addition, higher vitamin A and vitamin E intake are related to the absence of extrathyroidal extension (p = 0.013) and lymph node metastasis (p = 0.007), respectively. Our findings suggest that a ROH serum level greater than 2.65 μmol/L in PTC patients may be a protective factor against the presence of lymph node metastasis and angiolymphatic invasion. In addition, vitamin A and E intake may protect against extrathyroidal extension and lymph node metastasis. CONCLUSIONS A favourable nutritional status (higher serum levels and/or intake) of vitamin A and E may be associated with less aggressive tumours in PTC patients.

Abstract
Changes in metabolism are mechanisms that are largely implicated in the development, progression, and metastasis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and also in resistance to different anticancer therapies. Identification of biomarkers for differentiation between cancerous and normal epithelium, treatment design and prognosis remain a vital issue in the field of head and neck cancer. The present study analyzed the main biochemical changes that occur in HNSCC tumors by through mechanisms involving oxidative stress. The release of substances reactive to thiobarbituric acid was significantly lower in HNSCC tumor tissue as compared to healthy tissue. The assays related to the lipid profile assays showed changes in membrane biophysics of tumor cells due to an increase in total phospholipids and total cholesterol, as well as an increased activity and expression of the α1 subunit of Na, K-ATPase, which is fundamental in the process of carcinogenesis. The modulation of the antioxidant system was also affected, with a decrease in the catalytic activity of the enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), as well as a reduction of glutathione (GSH) content and an increase in H2O2 content. A reduction in catalase (CAT) activity was observed. The data presented here are in accordance with important findings described by us in a previous study, involving the same individuals, but with a focus on the damage generated in red blood cells, resulting from tumor installation. Therefore, it was possible to conclude that the biochemical alterations found in HNSCC cells are fundamental for transformation and maintenance of the tumor cell and once it is installed, it is also capable of generating injuries in the patients' red blood cells. Our data demonstrate that this could be a promising biomarker for HNSCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) aid in informing treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Nevertheless, little is known about the role of diet on TILs. METHODS Immunohistologic expression of CD4, CD8, CD68, CD103, CD104 and FOXP3 were assessed in tissue microarrays from 233 previously untreated HNSCC patients. Associations between these markers and pretreatment dietary patterns were evaluated using linear regression. Associations between baseline serum carotenoids, tocopherols and TILs were assessed using logistic regression. Cox models evaluated the association between diet and TILs on overall and recurrence-free survival. RESULTS Consumption of a Western dietary pattern was associated with lower CD8+ and FOXP3+ infiltrates (p-value:0.03 and 0.02, respectively). Multivariable logistic regression models demonstrated significantly higher CD8+ (OR:2.21;p-value:0.001) and FOXP3+ (OR:4.26;p-value:<0.0001) among patients with high gamma tocopherol. Conversely, high levels of xanthophylls (OR:0.12;p-value:<0.0001), lycopene (OR:0.36;p-value:0.0001) and total carotenoids(OR:0.31;p-value: <0.0001) were associated with significantly lower CD68+. Among those with high CD4+ (HR:1.77;p-value:0.03), CD68+ (HR:2.42;p-value:0.004), CD103+ (HR:3.64;p-value:0.03) and FOXP3+ (HR:3.09;p-value:0.05), having a high Western dietary pattern increased the risk of overall mortality when compared to a low Western dietary pattern. CONCLUSION Dietary patterns and serum carotenoids may play an important role in modifying TILs, and ultimately, outcome after diagnosis with HNSCC.

Abstract
Hinokitiol, a natural monoterpenoid from the heartwood of Calocedrus formosana, has been reported to have anticancer effects against various cancer cell lines. However, the detailed molecular mechanisms and the inhibiting roles of hinokitiol on adenocarcinoma A549 cells remain to be fully elucidated. Thus, the current study was designed to evaluate the effect of hinokitiol on the migration of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells in vitro. The data demonstrates that hinokitiol does not effectively inhibit the viability of A549 cells at up to a 10 µM concentration. When treated with non-toxic doses (1–5 µM) of hinokitiol, the cell migration is markedly suppressed at 5 µM. Hinokitiol significantly reduced p53 expression, followed by attenuation of Bax in A549 cells. A dose-dependent inhibition of activated caspase-9 and -3 was observed in the presence of hinokitiol. An observed increase in protein expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) -2/-9 in A549 cells was significantly inhibited by hinokitiol. Remarkably, when A549 cells were subjected to hinokitiol (1–5 µM), there was an increase in the activities of antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) from the reduction in cells. In addition, the incubation of A549 cells with hinokitiol significantly activated the cytochrome c expression, which may be triggered by activation of caspase-9 followed by caspase-3. These observations indicate that hinokitiol inhibited the migration of lung cancer A549 cells through several mechanisms, including the activation of caspases-9 and -3, induction of p53/Bax and antioxidant CAT and SOD, and reduction of MMP-2 and -9 activities. It also induces cytochrome c expression. These findings demonstrate a new therapeutic potential for hinokitiol in lung cancer chemoprevention.

Abstract
Melatonin is a molecule secreted by the pineal gland; it is an important regulator of sleep and circadian rhythms. Through multiple interrelated mechanisms, melatonin exhibits various inhibitory properties at different stages of tumor progression. Many studies have explored the oncostatic effects of melatonin on hormone-dependent tumors. In this review, we highlight recent advances in understanding the effects of melatonin on the development of head and neck cancers, including molecular mechanisms identified through experimental and clinical observations. Because melatonin exerts a wide range of effects, melatonin may influence many mechanisms that influence the development of cancer. These include cell proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, extracellular matrix remodeling through matrix metalloproteinases, and genetic polymorphism. Thus, the evidence discussed in this article will serve as a basis for basic and clinical research to promote the use of melatonin for understanding and controlling the development of head and neck cancers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence for the possible effect of vitamin E on head and neck cancers (HNCs) is limited. METHODS We used individual-level pooled data from 10 case-control studies (5959 cases and 12 248 controls) participating in the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE) consortium to assess the association between vitamin E intake from natural sources and cancer of the oral cavity/pharynx and larynx. Adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using unconditional logistic regression models applied to quintile categories of non-alcohol energy-adjusted vitamin E intake. RESULTS Intake of vitamin E was inversely related to oral/pharyngeal cancer (OR for the fifth vs the first quintile category=0.59, 95% CI: 0.49-0.71; P for trend <0.001) and to laryngeal cancer (OR=0.67, 95% CI: 0.54-0.83, P for trend <0.001). There was, however, appreciable heterogeneity of the estimated effect across studies for oral/pharyngeal cancer. Inverse associations were generally observed for the anatomical subsites of oral and pharyngeal cancer and within covariate strata for both sites. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that greater vitamin E intake from foods may lower HNC risk, although we were not able to explain the heterogeneity observed across studies or rule out certain sources of bias.

Abstract
NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) is a phase II enzyme that participates in the detoxification of dopamine-derived quinone molecules and reactive oxygen species. Our prior work using a proteomic approach found that NQO1 protein levels were significantly decreased in stable hepatitis B virus (HBV)-producing hepatoma cells relative to the empty-vector-transfected controls. However, the mechanism and biological significance of the NQO1 suppression remain elusive. In this study we demonstrate that HBV X protein (HBx) induces epigenetic silencing of NQO1 in hepatoma cells through promoter hypermethylation via recruitment of DNA methyltransferase DNMT3A to the promoter region of the NQO1 gene. In HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) specimens, HBx expression was correlated negatively to NQO1 transcripts but positively to NQO1 promoter hypermethylation. Downregulation of NQO1 by HBx reduced intracellular glutathione levels, impaired mitochondrial function, and increased susceptibility of hepatoma cells to oxidative stress-induced cell injury. These results suggest a novel mechanism for HBV-mediated pathogenesis of chronic liver diseases, including HCC.

Abstract
Oxidative stress, a consequence of an imbalance between the formation and inactivation of reactive oxygen species, may be involved in the pathogenesis of many diseases including cancer. To evaluate the magnitude of oxidative stress, a study on the plasma levels of superoxide dismutase, total thiols, ascorbic acid and malondialdehyde (MDA) has been done in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients before the start of any oncological treatment and compared with healthy controls. The specific activity of superoxide dismutase in cancer patients is decreased significantly when compared to the control (p < 0.05). The total thiol and ascorbic acid levels are significantly reduced (p < 0.005) whereas MDA levels are significantly increased in the patients (p < 0.00005). Our findings show that the oxidative stress is elevated in cancer patients as evidenced by elevated levels of lipid peroxidation products and depletion of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants.

Abstract
We have studied the role of systemic oxidative stress for survival of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). Patients with lowest plasma total GSH levels had the lowest 36 months survival. In patients with post-radiotherapy concentrations of plasma total GSH less than median value, about 73% died during the 36 months follow-up compared to about 21% of patients with GSH values above median. Systemic oxidative stress as assessed by low GSH in post-radiotherapy plasma is associated to outcome in HNSCC patients.

Abstract
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) I is an antioxidant protein expressed in proliferating cells. We investigated Prx I as marker for tongue cancer status by correlating clinical features with Prx I expression. Samples from 132 patients with squamous cell carcinoma in the tongue were examined by immunohistochemistry with an anti-Prx I antibody. Correlations between Prx I expression and the clinical features of tumors were statistically determined using univariate and multivariate analyses. Univariate analysis showed Prx I was significantly associated with local recurrence (P=0.033). By multiple logistic regression analysis, Prx I expression was associated with local recurrence (odds ratio: 2.84; 95% confidence interval: 1.09-7.43; P=0.034) and lymph node recurrence (odds ratio: 2.86; 95% confidence interval: 1.02-8.01; P=0.046). Our results suggested that Prx I expression indicates tumors with a high potential for recurrence. Prx I may be used clinically to guide treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS NAD(P)H: quinone oxydoreductase 1 (NQO1) and glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) belong to phase II xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes. GSTP1 inactivation via CpG island hypermethylation in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was previously reported, but the involvement of NQO1 in HCC is not well known. In this study, we assessed the transcription and status of methylation of NQO1 gene in human hepatoma cells and primary human HCC tissues. METHODS NQO1 transcription and DNA hypermethylation in hepatoma cells with or without 5-aza-deoxycytidine (5-Aza-CdR) treatment were investigated by reverse-transcription PCR (RT-PCR), sodium bisulfite sequencing and methylation-specific PCR (MSP). The methylation status of NQO1 and GSTP1, and NQO1 mRNA in 44 HCC cases was also analyzed by MSP and real-time PCR, respectively. RESULTS NQO1 transcription was down-regulated and the CpG island DNA was hypermethylated in Hep3B and HuH6 cells. After treatment with 5-Aza-CdR, NQO1 transcription was restored and CpG island DNA was demethylated in these cells. MSP analysis revealed that NQO1 hypermethylation occurred in 50.0% of HCC. All of the tumors that exhibited lesser amounts of NQO1 mRNA than corresponding non-tumorous tissues showed NQO1 hypermethylation. CONCLUSIONS NQO1 transcription might be inappropriately suppressed by promoter hypermethylation in a subset of HCC, as well as GSTP1 gene.

Abstract
Oxidative DNA damage can generate a variety of cytotoxic DNA lesions such as 8-oxoguanine (8-oxoG), which is one of the most mutagenic bases formed from oxidation of genomic DNA because 8-oxoG can readily mispair with either cytosine or adenine. If unrepaired, further replication of A.8-oxoG mispairs results in C:G to A:T transversions, a form of genomic instability. We reported previously that repair of A.8-oxoG mispairs was defective and that 8-oxoG levels were elevated in several microsatellite stable human colorectal cancer cell lines lacking MutY mutations (human MutY homolog gene, hmyh, MYH MutY homolog protein). In this report, we provide biochemical evidence that the defective repair of A.8-oxoG may be due, at least in part, to defective phosphorylation of the MutY protein in these cell lines. In MutY-defective cell extracts, but not extracts with functional MutY, A.8-oxoG repair was increased by incubation with protein kinases A and C (PKA and PKC) and caesin kinase II. Treatment of these defective cells, but not cells with functional MutY, with phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate also increased the cellular A.8-oxoG repair activity and decreased the elevated 8-oxoG levels. We show that MutY is serine-phosphorylated in vitro by the action of PKC and in the MutY-defective cells by phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate but that MutY is already phosphorylated at baseline in proficient cell lines. Finally, using antibody-isolated MutY protein, we show that MutY can be directly phosphorylated by PKC that directly increases the level of MutY catalyzed A.8-oxoG repair.

Abstract
The antitumor effects of melatonin on diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-initiated and/or phenobarbital (PB)-promoted hepatocarcinogenesis were investigated in male F344 rats. Five-week-old male F344 rats were divided into eight groups. Rats in groups 1-5 were given DEN (100 mg/kg body weight, i.p.) once a week for 3 wk, whereas those in groups 6-8 received vehicle treatment. Groups 1-3 and 7 were given 500 ppm PB in drinking water for 20 wk after DEN or vehicle treatment. Group 2 was given 400 ppm melatonin-containing diet during the initiation phase. Groups 3 and 5 were fed melatonin-containing diet for 20 wk, starting 1 wk after the last dosing of DEN. Group 6 was given melatonin-containing diet alone throughout the experiment (24 wk). Group 8 was treated with vehicle alone. Liver neoplasms were recognized only in DEN-treated groups. The incidences and multiplicities of hepatocellular adenoma and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in group 3 were significantly smaller when compared with group 1 (P < 0.001 or P < 0.002). The average and unit areas of glutathione S-transferase placental form (GST-P)-positive foci of groups 2 and 3 were significantly smaller than those of group 1 (P < 0.001 or P < 0.01). The density and average area of these preneoplastic lesions of group 5 were also smaller than those of group 4 (P < 0.001 or P < 0.005). In addition, the ornithine decarboxylase activity in nonneoplastic liver tissue was reduced by melatonin treatment in both the initiation and postinitiation phases. These results suggest that melatonin has an antitumor-promoting ability in DEN-initiated and PB-promoted hepatocarcinogenesis in rats.

Abstract
The metabolic detoxification capacity may critically regulate the susceptibility of human tissues to cancer development. We used standardized and quantitative, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (StaRT-PCR) and microarray chip techniques to analyze transcript levels of multiple detoxification enzymes in cultured normal human oral keratinocytes (NOK) and the Siman virus 40 T antigen-immortalized oral keratinocyte line SVpgC2a, viewing the latter as a model of a benign tumor state. With good agreement between the 2 methodologies, NOK and SVpgC2a were found to express transcripts for cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs), factors related to CYP induction and enzymes involved in conjugation reactions or detoxification of reactive oxygen. The cell types expressed similar levels of CYP 2B6/7, CYP 2E1, P450 oxidoreductase, the aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator, sulfotransferase 1A1, sulfotransferase 1A3, epoxide hydrolase, glutathione S-transferase M3, glutathione S-transferase pi and catalase, superoxide dismutase 1, glutathione peroxidase 1 and glutathione peroxidase 3. In contrast, SVpgC2a exhibited comparatively higher levels of CYP1A1, 1B1, aryl hydrocarbon receptor, glutathione S-transferase M1, 2, 4, 5, glutathione S-transferase theta 1 and superoxide dismutase 2 and comparatively lower levels of UDP glycosyltransferase 2 and microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1. Some transcripts, e.g., CYP 2A6/7, were not detected by either standard, non quantitative RT-PCR or the above methods, whereas others were barely quantifiable by StaRT-PCR, i.e., were present at 1-10 molecules/10(6) molecules of actin. Overall, the expression analysis demonstrated presence of mRNA for multiple enzymes involved in foreign compound metabolism and detoxification pathways, including several enzymes not previously reported for oral epithelium. Generally, the comparison of NOK from 2 individuals indicated relatively similar transcript levels of these enzymes. In contrast, differences between NOK and SVpgC2a, e.g., for CYP1B1, may reflect alteration caused by immortalization and aid identification of early stage tumor markers in oral epithelium.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Limited information is available on the association of parental consumption of alcohol prior to and during pregnancy with the risk of childhood leukemia, as well as for the potentially modifying role of genetic polymorphisms. METHODS We conducted a population-based, case-control study of 491 incident cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia age 0-9 years and matched on age and sex to 491 healthy controls. Cases were identified at tertiary care centers in the Province of Québec between 1980 and 1993. Each parent was interviewed separately about alcohol consumption habits. We also used a case-only design with 186 cases to estimate interaction odds ratios between prenatal exposure and child DNA variants in the GSTM1 and CYP2E1 genes. RESULTS The adjusted odds ratio for any maternal consumption during pregnancy was 0.7 (95% confidence interval = 0.5-0.9). The interaction odds ratios for the GSTM1 null genotype during third pregnancy trimester was 2.4 (95% confidence interval = 1.1-5.4); the interaction odds ratio for CYP2E1 variant G-1295C (or allele *5) during the nursing period was 4.9 (95% confidence interval = 1.5-16.7). CONCLUSIONS The observed association with maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy could be due to the potential chemopreventive effects of flavonoids found in wine and beer. These possible effects of alcohol may be at least partially genetically determined, although data are preliminary.

Abstract
The fungal strain Humicola lutea 103 produces a naturally glycosylated Cu/Zn SOD. To improve its yield, the effect of an increased concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO) on growth and enzyme biosynthesis by the producer, cultivated in a 3 l bioreactor, was examined. Exposure to a 20% DO level caused a 1.7-fold increase of SOD activity compared to the DO-uncontrolled culture. Maximum enzyme productivity of SOD was approximately 300 x 10(3) U (kg wet biomass)(-1). The novel enzyme was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity. The presence of Cu and Zn were confirmed by atomic absorption spectrometry. The molecular mass of H. lutea Cu/Zn SOD was calculated to be 31870 Da for the whole molecule and 15936 Da for the structural subunits. The N-terminal sequence revealed a high degree of structural homology with Cu/Zn SOD from other prokaryotic and eukaryotic sources. H. lutea Cu/Zn SOD was used in an in vivo model for the demonstration of its protective effect against myeloid Graffi tumour in hamsters. Comparative studies revealed that the enzyme (i) elongated the latent time for tumour appearance, (ii) inhibited tumour growth in the early stage of tumour progression (73-75% at day 10) and (iii) increased the mean survival time of Graffi-tumour-bearing hamsters. Moreover, the fungal Cu/Zn SOD exhibited a strong protective effect on experimental influenza virus infection in mice. The survival rate increased markedly, the time of survival rose by 5.2 d and the protective index reached 86%. The H. lutea SOD protected mice from mortality more efficiently compared to the selective antiviral drug ribavirin and to commercial bovine SOD. In conclusion, our results suggest that appropriate use of the novel fungal SOD, applied as such or in combination with selective inhibitors, could outline a promising strategy for the treatment of myeloid Graffi tumour and influenza virus infection.

Abstract
Previous studies demonstrated that hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) is a tumor promoter in the rat liver epithelial cell line T51B. We investigated the pathway linking H(2)O(2) to tumor promotion. H(2)O(2) can directly induce tyrosine phosphorylation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). H(2)O(2) and epidermal growth factor exerted similar effects on the induction of early growth response genes, disruption of gap junction communication, triggering of calcium inflow, and promotion of transformation. Furthermore, the effect of H(2)O(2) on tumor promotion was blocked by abrogation of EGFR activation. Our results suggested that tumor promotion by H(2)O(2) is mediated mainly through activation of EGFR in T51B cells.

Abstract
This study investigates the applicability of the novel antioxidant protein, peroxiredoxin (Prx) I as a marker for tumor status in oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Samples from 53 patients with SCC in the oral cavity were examined by immunohistochemistry. Correlations between the expression level of Prx I and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), the clinical features of tumors, and their histopathological classifications were statistically analyzed. Cases exhibiting low Prx I expression level included significantly more with larger tumor mass cases (T-category, P=0.004), positive lymph node metastasis (N-category, P=0.015), advanced stage (P=0.002), and poorly differentiated cells (P=0.020). There was no significant difference between Prx I expression and the other indices.
