Abstract
The exploration encompassed the synthesis and characterization of two innovative complexes, namely FePHNS and CuPHNS, employing a diverse array of analytical techniques such as elemental analysis, infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, molar conductivity measurements, magnetic susceptibility assessments, and thermal analysis (TGA). In the spectral domain, infrared spectroscopy substantiated the tridentate ONS coordination of the PHNS ligand to the central metal atom. Thermal analysis offered valuable insights into the distribution and content of water molecules within the complexes. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were harnessed to validate the molecular structures of both the PHNS ligand and its complex entities, providing an intricate comprehension of their quantum chemical parameters. The investigation extended to an evaluation of the in vitro antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant efficacy of the PHNS ligand and its complexes, revealing heightened biological activities for the complexes in comparison to the free PHNS ligand, notably with the CuPHNS complex demonstrating the highest activity, while the PHNS ligand exhibited the lowest. To delve into potential physiological activities, molecular docking studies were conducted, predicting the binding affinity of the compounds to proteins 2vf5 (Glucosamine-6-phosphate synthase in complex with glucosamine-6-phosphate) from Escherichia coli, 3cku (rate oxidase from Aspergillus flavus complexed with its inhibitor 8-azaxanthin and chloride) from Aspergillus flavus, and 5IJT (Crystal structure of Human Peroxiredoxin 2 Oxidized). The ensuing analysis of protein-ligand interactions and binding energies underscored the promising physiological activities of the investigated compounds, warranting further exploration for their potential in novel drug development.

Abstract
The main target of the current framework is the designing and synthesizing of novel iron(III), cobalt(II), and cupper(II) complex compounds emanating from bioactive nucleus, 4-hydroxy-2H-pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline-2,5(6H)-dione ligand, to enhance comprehension as potential antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant alternatives by means of using DFT calculations and molecular docking investigation. Thus, the new complexes had been synthesized and characterized using various analytical techniques, including elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, UV spectroscopy, conductivity, and magnetic testing, as well as thermal analysis. The 4-hydroxy-2H-pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline-2,5(6H)-dione ligand exhibits monobasic bidentate OO donor properties toward the metal core, as shown by its infrared spectroscopic characteristics. The use of thermal analysis techniques allows for the identification and characterization of water molecules present inside the complexes, as well as the determination of their distribution patterns. The molecular structures of free ligand and its metal complex compounds have been verified through the use of density functional theory (DFT) simulations. These simulations also provide a valuable understanding of the quantum chemical characteristics associated with these structures. In vitro experiments were conducted to evaluate the antioxidant, antibacterial, as well as antifungal and the properties of the free ligand and its corresponding complex compounds. DATA revealed that synthesized metal complex compounds have heightened biological efficacy as related to the unbound ligand. Furthermore, molecular docking analysis was done to understand the interactions between the studied compounds and proteins derived from Escherichia coli (pdb ID: 2vf5), Aspergillus flavus (pdb ID: 3cku), and humans (pdb ID: 5IJT), which are considered to be significant in drug design. Lastly, a correlation between in vitro efficacies with molecular docking data was done and analyzed.

Abstract
The present review explores the critical role of oxime and oxime ether moieties in enhancing the physicochemical and anticancer properties of structurally diverse molecular frameworks. Specific examples are carefully selected to illustrate the distinct contributions of these functional groups to general strategies for molecular design, modulation of biological activities, computational modeling, and structure-activity relationship studies. An extensive literature search was conducted across three databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scifinder, enabling us to create one of the most comprehensive overviews of how oximes and oxime ethers impact antitumor activities within a wide range of structural frameworks. This search focused on various combinations of keywords or their synonyms, related to the anticancer activity of oximes and oxime ethers, structure-activity relationships, mechanism of action, as well as molecular dynamics and docking studies. Each article was evaluated based on its scientific merit and the depth of the study, resulting in 268 cited references and more than 336 illustrative chemical structures carefully selected to support this analysis. As many previous reviews focus on one subclass of this extensive family of compounds, this report represents one of the rare and fully comprehensive assessments of the anticancer potential of this group of molecules across diverse molecular scaffolds.

Abstract
Herien, three new Fe(III) (FeAZD), Ni(II) (NiAZD), and Cu(II) (CuAZD) complexes were synthesized and characterized using various physicochemical and spectroscopic approaches. The H2AZD ligand acted as a bi-basic bi-dentate NO ligand in a 1:1 molar ratio. The results revealed that the FeAZD and CuAZD complexes had octahedral geometry, while the NiAZD had a tetrahedral geometry. The optimized geometry, HOMO and LUMO analysis of the ligand and its metal complexes was determined via Density functional theory (DFT) using the B3LYP with 6-311 G(d,p), and LanL2DZ level of theory. The FeAZD, NiAZD and CuAZD had lower energy gap, 7.40, 7.93 and 7.06 eV, respectively, than the free ligand (9.58 eV), which proposed that CuAZD was more active one. The free ligand and its metal complexes were in vitro investigated for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. The results illustrated that the metal complexes had higher antibacterial and antifungal activity than the free ligand. More specifically, the CuAZD demonstrated good antibacterial activity against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, B. cereus, and A. flavus, T. rubrum, and C. albicans, with activity indexes of 72.22%, 65.01%, 77.78%, and 72.22%, 63.16%, 59.09%, and 61.90%, respectively. Also, the metal complexes showed lower MIC (6.25-3.125 ppm) compared to the free ligand (about 50 ppm). Finally, molecular docking was utilized to investigate the ability of the free ligand and its metal complexes to inhibit the growth of E. coli (PDB ID: 5iq9). The results showed that the CuAZD had the highest binding affinity to the receptor, with a more negative docking score of - 7.05 Kcal/mol, and lower inhibition constant (Ki) of 6.90 µM. That is indicating that it may be the most effective at inhibiting the growth of E. coli (PDB ID: 5iq9).

Abstract
Novelmanganese(II), iron(III), cobalt(II), nickel(II), and copper(II) chelates were synthesized and studied using elemental analysis (EA), infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and conductivity, as well as magnetic measurements and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The azo-ligand 1-[(4-nitrophenyl)diazenyl]-2-naphthol (HL) chelates to the metal ions via the nitrogen and oxygen centers of the azo group and the hydroxyl, respectively. The amounts of H2O present and its precise position were identified by thermal analysis. Density functional theory (DFT) was employed to theoretically elucidate the molecular structures of the ligand and the metal complexes. Furthermore, the quantum chemical parameters were also evaluated. The antimicrobial properties were evaluated against a group of fungal and bacterial microbes. Interestingly, the bioactivity of the complexes is enhanced compared to free ligands. Within this context, the CuL complex manifested the lowest activity, whereas the FeL complex had the greatest. Molecular docking was used to foretell the drugs' binding affinity for the structure of Escherichia coli (PDB ID: 1hnj). Protein-substrate interactions were resolved, and binding energies were accordingly calculated.

Abstract
Reactions of 3-formylchromone (L) with Ni(ii) and Co(ii) ions having different anions (acetate, perchlorate, nitrate, and chloride) yielded a series of binary and ternary octahedral complexes with the general formula [ML n L' m X y (S) a ]Z y ·bS, where M = Ni or Co, n = 1-3, L' = auxiliary ligand = 8-hydroxyquinoline or 1,10-phenanthroline, m = 1 or 2, X = acetate or chloride, y = 0 or 2, S = H2O or MeOH, a = 0-2, Z = nitrate or perchlorate and b = 0-1.5. Elemental and thermal analyses and infra-red, electronic, mass, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity measurements were successfully utilized to characterize the structures of the chromone complexes. The chromone ligand acts as a neutral bidentate ligand through its formyl and γ-pyrone oxygen atoms. The obtained complexes were formed with molar ratios 1 : 2 and 1 : 3 M : L for the binary and 1 : 2 : 1 and 1 : 1 : 1 M : L : L' for the ternary complexes. The kinetic parameters of the thermal degradation steps were estimated and explained using the Coats-Redfern equations. The synthesized complexes showed antimicrobial activity with higher activity toward Candida albicans and Bacillus subtilis. Docking studies showed good agreement with the antimicrobial activity. Molecular modeling of the synthesized complexes was performed using Hyperchem at the PM3 level and the calculated structures correlate with the experimental data.

A Schiff base ligand of o-vanillin and 4-aminoazobenzene and its transition metal complexes of Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cu(II), Mn(II), and Zr(IV) were prepared under microwave irradiation as a green approach compared to the conventional method. The structures of new compounds have been characterized and elucidated via elemental and spectroscopic analyses. In addition, magnetic susceptibility, electron spin resonance, and electronic spectra of the synthesized complexes explained their geometrical structures. The thermal stability of Cu(II), Zn(II), and Zr(IV) complexes was studied by thermo-gravimetric analyses (TGA). Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger equations were used to calculate the thermal and dehydration decomposition activities of proposed structures kinetically. Surface morphologies of the solid compounds were imaged by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The particle size of prepared complexes was measured by using a particle size analyzer at a diffraction angle of 10.9°. The geometry structures of the synthesized compounds were verified utilizing electronic spectra, ESR spectrum, and magnetic moment value. The newly synthesized compounds were screened for antimicrobial activity. Also, the anticancer activity of the free Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes were studied against two cell lines: human colon (HCT-116) and human liver cancer cells (HepG-2). The obtained results showed that the Cu(II) complex displayed the highest cytotoxic activity (IC50 = 18 and 22 μg/mL for HepG-2 and HCT, respectively) compared to the free Schiff base ligand.

Abstract
Within the current challenges in medicinal chemistry, the development of new and better therapeutic agents effective against infectious diseases produced by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites stands out. With chemotherapy as one of the main strategies against these diseases focusing on the administration of organic and inorganic drugs, the latter is generally based on the synergistic effect produced by the formation of metal complexes with biologically active organic compounds. In this sense, Schiff bases (SBs) represent and ideal ligand scaffold since they have demonstrated a broad spectrum of antitumor, antiviral, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory activities, among others. In addition, SBs are synthesized in an easy manner from one-step condensation reactions, being thus suitable for facile structural modifications, having the imine group as a coordination point found in most of their metal complexes, and promoting chelation when other donor atoms are three, four, or five bonds apart. However, despite the wide variety of metal complexes found in the literature using this type of ligands, only a handful of them include on their structures tridentate SBs ligands and their biological evaluation has been explored. Hence, this review summarizes the most important antimicrobial activity results reported this far for pincer-type complexes (main group and d-block) derived from SBs tridentate ligands.

Synthesis, X-ray Structure and Biological Studies of New Self-Assembled Cu(II) Complexes Derived from s-triazine Schiff Base Ligand. Molecules 2022; 27:molecules27092989. [PMID: 35566339 PMCID: PMC9106035 DOI: 10.3390/molecules27092989] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/11/2022] [Revised: 05/02/2022] [Accepted: 05/03/2022] [Indexed: 02/04/2023] Open
Abstract
The two ligands 2-(1-(2-(4,6-dimorpholino-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)hydrazono)ethyl)aniline (DMAT) and 2-(1-(2-(4,6-dimorpholino-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)hydrazono)ethyl)phenol (DMOHT) were used to synthesize three heteroleptic Cu(II) complexes via a self-assembly technique. The structure of the newly synthesized complexes was characterized using elemental analysis, FTIR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to be [Cu(DMAT)(H2O)(NO3)]NO3.C2H5OH (1), [Cu(DMOT)(CH3COO)] (2) and [Cu(DMOT)(NO3)] (3). X-ray single-crystal structure of complex 1 revealed a hexa-coordinated Cu(II) ion with one DMAT as a neutral tridentate NNN-chelate, one bidentate nitrate group and one water molecule. In the case of complex 2, the Cu(II) is tetra-coordinated with one DMOT as an anionic tridentate NNO-chelate and one monodentate acetate group. The antimicrobial, antioxidant and anticancer activities of the studied compounds were examined. Complex 1 had the best anticancer activity against the lung carcinoma A-549 cell line (IC50 = 5.94 ± 0.58 µM) when compared to cis-platin (25.01 ± 2.29 µM). The selectivity index (SI) of complex 1 was the highest (6.34) when compared with the free ligands (1.3–1.8), and complexes 2 (0.72) and 3 (2.97). The results suggested that, among those compounds studied, complex 1 is the most promising anticancer agent against the lung carcinoma A-549 cell line. In addition, complex 1 had the highest antioxidant activity (IC50 = 13.34 ± 0.58 µg/mL) which was found to be comparable to the standard ascorbic acid (IC50 = 10.62 ± 0.84 µg/mL). Additionally, complex 2 showedbroad-spectrum antimicrobial action against the microbes studied. The results revealed it to possess the strongest action of all the three complexes against B. subtilis. The MIC values found are 39.06, 39.06 and 78.125 mg/mL for complexes 1–3, respectively.

Abstract
In this work, novel vic-dioxime ligand (LH2 ) containing bound to the N4 -oxime core moiety and its complexes with Cu(II), Ni(II), Ti(IV), VO(IV), and Zn(II) salts have been studied. The structure of the ligand and its complexes were successfully synthesized and characterized using NMR (1 H and 13 C), LC/MS/MS spectrometer, FT-IR and UV/VIS spectroscopy, melting point, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Vic-dioxime ligand (LH2 ) (1) and its metal complexes ([Cu(LH)2 ] (2), [Ni(LH)2 ] (3), [Ti(LH)2 ]Cl2 (4), [VO(LH)2 ] (5), and [Zn(LH)2 ] (6), respectively) were tested for them in-vitro antibacterial and antioxidant activities. According to the metal chelating results of the study, it was determined that compounds (1), (2), (3), and (6) showed very good activity, and especially compound (2), had a stronger metal chelating capacity due to ligand dissociation from the synthesized metal complexes, which then would chelate Fe(II) in the experimental setting. When microorganisms were evaluated in terms of the % viability effect, it was observed that all compounds had activity against C. Albicans and S. Cerevisiae at rates similar to antibiotics.
