Abstract
The use of two-dimensional heterostructure composite as electrode modification material has become a new strategy to improve the electrocatalytic activity and electroactive sites of electrochemical sensor. Herein, a soluble heterostructure, namely rGO-PSS@MXene, was designed and synthesized by integrating poly (sodium p-styrenesulfonate)-functionalized reduced graphene oxide into MXene nanosheets via ultrasonic method. The interactive heterostructure can effectively alleviate the self-stacking of MXene and rGO, endowing them with superior electron transfer capacity and large specific surface area, thereby producing prominent synergistic electrocatalytic effect towards rutin. In addition, the excellent enrichment effect of rGO-PSS@MXene for rutin also plays an important role through the electrostatic and π-π stacking interactions. The electrochemical characteristics of rutin on the sensor were examined in detail and a sensitive sensing method was proposed. Under optimized conditions, the method showed satisfactory linear relationship for rutin in the concentration range of 0.005-10.0 μM, with limit of detection of 1.8 nM (S/N = 3). The quantitative validation results in herbal medicine and commercial Tartary buckwheat tea were highly consistent with the labeled quantity and the results of HPLC determination, respectively, suggesting the sensor possessed excellent selectivity and accuracy. This proposed strategy for rutin determination is expected to expand the application of MXene heterostructure in electrochemical sensors, and is envisioned as a promising candidate for quality monitoring of drugs and foods.

Abstract
The facile fabrication is reported of highly electrochemically active Ti3C2Tx MXene/MWCNT (3D/1D)-modified screen-printed carbon electrode (SPE) for the efficient simultaneous electrochemical detection of paracetamol, theophylline, and caffeine in human blood samples. 3D/1D Ti3C2Tx MXene/MWCNT nanocomposite was synthesized using microwave irradiation and ultrasonication processes. Then, the Ti3C2Tx/MWCNT-modified SPE electrode was fabricated and thoroughly characterized towards its physicochemical and electrochemical properties using XPS, TEM, FESEM, XRD, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and differential pulse voltammetry techniques. As-constructed Ti3C2Tx-MWCNT/SPE offers excellent electrochemical sensing performance with good detection limits (0.23, 0.57, and 0.43 µM) and wide linear ranges (1.0 ~ 90.1, 2.0 ~ 62.0, and 2.0-90.9 µM) for paracetamol, caffeine, and theophylline, respectively, in the human samples. Notably, the non-enzymatic electroactive nanocomposite-modified electrode has depicted a semicircle Nyquist plot with low charge transfer resistance (Rct∼95 Ω), leading to high ionic diffusion and facilitating an excellent electron transfer path. All the above results in efficient stability, reproducibility, repeatability, and sensitivity compared with other reported works, and thus, it claims its practical utilization in realistic clinical applications.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) materials such as MXenes have attracted considerable attention owing to their enormous potential for structural flexibility. Here, we prepared a Mo2TiC2Tx-layered structure from parent Mo2TiAlC2Tx MAX by chemically selective etching of the aluminum layer. The prepared MXene was employed in composite formation with CTAB-grafted multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to have a structure with improved electrochemical performance. The samples were characterized to analyze the structure, morphology, elemental detection, vibrational modes, and surface chemistry, followed by an electrochemical performance of the Mo2TiC2Tx MXene and MWCNTs@Mo2TiC2Tx composite using the GAMRAY Potentiostat under a 1 M KOH electrolyte. The specific capacitance of pristine Mo2TiC2Tx was 425 F g-1, which was enhanced to 1740 F g-1 (almost 4 times) at 5 mV s-1 due to the increase in active surface area and conductive paths between the MXene sheets. The charge storage mechanism was studied by further resolving the cyclic voltammograms. MWCNTs@Mo2TiC2Tx showed much improved electrochemical performance and reaction kinetics, making it an ideal material candidate for supercapacitor applications.

ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES 2024; 16:8016-8023. Abstract
The photoelectrochemical water splitting (PEC-WS) performance of a photoanode consisting of GaN nanowires (NWs) is significantly improved using a Ti3C2-MXene coating as an intermediate layer to promote carrier transfer toward the electrolyte. The maximum current density and applied-bias photon-to-current efficiency of the photoanode comprising GaN NWs coated with Ti3C2-MXene (MGNWs) are measured to be 34.24 mA/cm2 and 14.47% at 1.2 and 0.4 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), respectively. These values are much higher than those of the GaN-NW photoanode without Ti3C2-MXene (4.04 mA/cm2 and 1.95%) and also markedly exceed those of previously reported photoanodes. After 8 days of PEC-WS, the current density was measured to be 31.07 mA/cm2, which corresponds to 97.58% of that measured immediately after the reaction started. Based on the time dependence of the current density, the hydrogen evolution rate over the reaction time is calculated to be 0.58 mmol/cm2·h. The results confirm that the PEC-WS performance of the optimized MGNW photoanode is superior to and more stable than those of previously reported photoanodes.

Abstract
In this work, novel modified electrode (MXene/MIL-101(Cr)/GCE) are manufactured through simple layer-by-layer immobilization procedure. The fabricated electrochemical sensor was utilized for electrochemical sensing of flutamide in biological fluids. The immobilization of both MXene and metal-organic framework (MOF) materials on the electrode surface could improve the electrochemical performance of the modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) towards flutamide due to the synergic effects. The established sensor illustrated the significant sensing ability for the determination of flutamide. The influence of solution pH and volume ratio of MXene/MIL-101(Cr) on electrochemical performance of the modified GCE was researched and optimized. The sensor demonstrated a favorable detection limit of 0.009 μM and a linear range of 0.025-100 μM using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technique. The suggested assay illustrated an excellent sensing efficiency towards flutamide in body fluids with recoveries ranging from 97.7% to 102.5%, which indicates its potential in real matrices. In addition, the MXene/MIL-101(Cr)/GCE was illustrated some advantages including simple preparation, good selectivity and reproducibility, and rapid flutamide detection.

Abstract
Herein, ZIF-67-derived Co and N-doped carbon (Co/NC) particle-modified multilayer MXene (MXene@Co/NC) was developed as remarkable electrode material for carbendazim (CBZ) detection. MXene as a substrate provides an excellent conductive framework and plentiful accessibility sites. Co/NC particles embedding in MXene can not only prevent the interlayer stacking of MXene but also contribute a great deal of metal catalytic active sites and finally improve the adsorption and catalytic properties of the composite. Accordingly, the MXene@Co/NC electrode displays excellent electrocatalytic activity toward CBZ oxidation. Experimental parameters such as pH value, accumulation time, MXene@Co/NC modification volume and constituent materials' mass ratios were optimized. Under optimal conditions, the as-prepared sensor based on MXene@Co/NC holds a broad linearity range from 0.01 μM to 45.0 μM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 3.3 nM (S/N = 3, S means the detection signal, while N represents the noise of the instrument). Moreover, the proposed sensor displays excellent anti-interference ability, superior reproducibility, excellent stability, and successfully achieves actual applications for CBZ detection in a lettuce sample.

Abstract
An electrochemical sensory platform is presented for determination of sumatriptan (SUM) in aqueous solutions and human blood serum. A pencil graphite electrode (PGE) was electrochemically delaminated by cyclic voltammetry technique, and then further modified using nanoparticles of a zinc-based metal-organic framework (Zn(II)-MOF). The fabricated Zn(II)-MOF/EDPGE electrode was utilized for sensitive electrochemical detection of SUM via an electro-oxidation reaction. The Zn(II)-MOF was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by various techniques. The electrochemical delamination of PGE results in a porous substrate, facilitating the effective immobilization of the modifier. The designed sensor benefits from both enhanced surface area and an accelerated electron transfer rate, as evidenced by the chronocoulogram and Nyquist plots. Under optimized conditions, the developed sensor exhibited a linear response for 0.99-9.52 µM SUM solutions. A short response time of 5 s was observed for the fabricated sensor and the detection limit was found to be 0.29 μM. Selectivity of Zn(II)-MOF/EDPGE towards SUM was evaluated by examining the interference effect of codeine, epinephrine, acetaminophen, ascorbic acid, and uric acid, which are commonly found in biological samples. The developed sensor shows excellent performance with recovery values falling within the range of 96.6 to 111% for the analysis of SUM in human blood serum samples.

Abstract
The widespread heavy metal pollution endangers human health; hence, accurate on-site detection and quantification of heavy metal content in the surroundings is a vital step in reversing the harmful effect. Herein, an electrochemical sensor based on flexible cerium metal-organic framework@multi-walled carbon nanotubes/carbon cloth (CeMOF@MWCNTs/CC) was constructed for simultaneous on-site detection of Cd2+ and Pb2+ in food and water samples. The rich carboxyl groups of MWCNTs provided abundant sites for the adsorption of Cd2+ and Pb2+, and the mutual conversion of Ce3+ and Ce4+ in CeMOF facilitated the reduction and reoxidation of metal ions. The prepared electrode showed excellent performance in the simultaneous measurement of Cd2+ and Pb2+, with detection limits of 2.2 ppb and 0.64 ppb, respectively. More importantly, the sensing platform has been successfully used to detect simultaneously Cd2+ and Pb2+ in grain and water samples, and the detection results were consistent with the standard methods, showing great potential in environmental monitoring and food safety.

Abstract
Mycotoxin pollution in agricultural food products endangers animal and human health during the supply chains, therefore the development of accurate and rapid techniques for the determination of mycotoxins is of great importance for food safety guarantee. MXenes-based nanoprobes have attracted enormous attention as a complementary analysis and promising alternative strategies to conventional diagnostic methods, because of their fascinating features, like high electrical conductivity, various surface functional groups, high surface area, superb thermal resistance, good hydrophilicity, and environmentally-friendlier characteristics. In this study, we outline the state-of-the-art research on MXenes-based probes in detecting various mycotoxins like aflatoxin, ochratoxin, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, and other toxins as a most commonly founded mycotoxin in the agri-food supply chain. First, we present the diverse synthesis approaches and exceptional characteristics of MXenes. Afterward, based on the detecting mechanism, we divide the biosensing utilizations of MXenes into two subcategories: electrochemical, and optical biosensors. Then their performance in effective sensing of mycotoxins is comprehensively deliberated. Finally, present challenges and prospective opportunities for MXenes are debated.

Abstract
Sumatriptan is an organic chemical compound from the tryptamine group. It is used as a medicine for migraine attacks and in the treatment of cluster headaches. In this work, a new voltammetric method is proposed for highly sensitive SUM determination, using glassy carbon electrodes modified with carbon black and titanium dioxide suspension. The novelty of the presented work is the usage of the mixture of carbon black and TiO2 as glassy carbon electrode modifier for the first time for SUM determination. The mentioned sensor was characterized by great repeatability and sensitivity of measurements, which resulted in the obtention of a wide range of linearity and a low detection limit. The electrochemical properties of the CB-TiO2/GC sensor was characterized using the LSV and EIS method. The effect of different factors on the SUM peak, such as supporting electrolyte type, preconcentration time and potential, or influence of interferents, were tested using the square wave voltammetry technique. The linear voltammetric response for the analyte was obtained in the concentration range of 5 nmol L-1 to 150 μmol L-1 with a detection limit of 2.9 nmol L-1 for a preconcentration time of 150 s in the 0.1 mol L-1 phosphate buffer pH 6.0. The proposed method was successfully applied for highly sensitive sumatriptan determination in complex matrices, such as tablets, urine, and plasma, with a good recovery parameter (94-105%). The presented CB-TiO2/GC electrode is characterized by great stability, it was used for 6 weeks without significant changes in the SUM peak current. Amperometric and voltammetric measurements of SUM under the flow injection conditions were also performed to indicate the possibility of its fast and accurate determination with a time of single analysis of approx. 30 s.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) MXenes sheet-like micro-structures have attracted attention as an effective electrochemical energy storage material due to their efficient electrolyte/cation interfacial charge transports inside the 2D sheets which results in ultrahigh rate capability and high volumetric capacitance. In this article, Ti3C2Tx MXene is prepared by a combination of ball milling and chemical etching from Ti3AlC2 powder. The effects of ball milling and etching duration on the physiochemical properties are also explored, as well as the electrochemical performance of as-prepared Ti3C2 MXene. The electrochemical performances of 6 h mechanochemically treated and 12 h chemically etched MXene (BM-12H) exhibit an electric double layer capacitance behavior with an enhanced specific capacitance of 146.3 F g-1 compared to 24 and 48 h treated samples. Moreover, 5000-cycle stability tested sample's (BM-12H) charge/discharge show increased specific capacitance due to the termination of the -OH group, intercalation of K+ ion and transformation to TiO2/Ti3C2 hybrid structure in a 3 M KOH electrolyte. Interestingly, a symmetric supercapacitor (SSC) device fabricated in a 1 M LiPF6 electrolyte in order to extend the voltage window up to 3 V shows a pseudocapacitance behavior due to Li on interaction/de-intercalation. In addition, the SSC shows an excellent energy and power density of 138.33 W h kg-1 and 1500 W kg-1, respectively. The ball milling pre-treated MXene exhibited an excellent performance and stability due to the increased interlayer distance between the MXene sheets and intercalation and deintercalation of Li+ ions.

Abstract
Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that exist in body circulation as intercellular message transmitters. Although the potential of tumor-derived exosomes for non-invasive cancer diagnosis is promising, the rapid detection and effective capture of exosomes remains challenging. Herein, a portable electrochemical aptasensor of cubic AuPt dendritic nanocrystals (AuPt DNs)/Ti3C2 assisted in signal amplification, and aptamer CD63 modified graphene oxide (GO) was immobilized on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) as the substrate materials for the direct capture and detection of colorectal carcinoma exosomes. Cubic AuPt DNs/Ti3C2 was synthesized according to a simple hydrothermal procedure, and the AuPt DNs/Ti3C2-Apt hybrid demonstrated an efficient recognition of exosomes. Under optimal conditions, a detection limit of down to 20 exosomes µL-1 was achieved with the linear range from 100 exosomes μL-1 to 5.0 × 105 exosomes μL-1. The proposed immunosensor could be suitable for the analysis of exosomes and has clinical value in the early diagnosis of cancer.

Abstract
Because of their unique physical, chemical, and biological characteristics, conductive nanomaterials have a lot of potential for applications in materials science, energy storage, environmental science, biomedicine, sensors/biosensors, and other fields. Recent breakthroughs in the manufacture of carbon materials, conductive polymers, metals, and metal oxide nanoparticles based electrochemical sensors and biosensors for applications in environmental monitoring by detection of catechol (CC) and hydroquinone (HQ) are presented in this review. To achieve this goal, we first introduced recent works that discuss the effects of phenolic compounds and the need for accurate, inexpensive, and quick monitoring, and then we focused on the use of the most important applications of nanomaterials, such as carbon-based materials, metals, and metal oxides nanoparticles, and conductive polymers, to develop sensors to monitor catechol and hydroquinone. Finally, we identified challenges and limits in the field of sensors and biosensors, as well as possibilities and recommendations for developing the field for better future applications. Meanwhile, electrochemical sensors and biosensors for catechol and hydroquinone measurement and monitoring were highlighted and discussed particularly. This review, we feel, will aid in the promotion of nanomaterials for the development of innovative electrical sensors and nanodevices for environmental monitoring.

Abstract
Today, MXenes with fascinating electronic, thermal, optical, and mechanical features have been broadly studied for biomedical applications, such as drug/gene delivery, photothermal/photodynamic therapy, antimicrobials/antivirals, sensing, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. In this context, various MXene-polymer composites have been designed to improve the characteristics such as physiological stability, sustained/controlled release behaviors, biodegradability, biocompatibility, selectivity/sensitivity, and functionality. Chitosan with advantages of ease of modification, biodegradability, antibacterial activities, non-toxicity, and biocompatibility can be considered as attractive materials for designing hybridized composites together with MXenes. These hybrid composites ought to be further explored for biomedical applications because of their unique properties such as high photothermal conversion efficiency, improved stability, selectivity/sensitivity, stimuli-responsiveness behaviors, and superior antibacterial features. These unique structural, functional, and biological attributes indicate that MXene-chitosan composites are attractive alternatives in biomedical engineering. However, several crucial aspects regarding the surface functionalization/modification, hybridization, nanotoxicological analyses, long-term biosafety assessments, biocompatibility, in vitro/in vivo evaluations, identification of optimization conditions, implementation of environmentally-benign synthesis techniques, and clinical translation studies are still need to be examined by researchers. Abstract
Cancer is most frequently treated with antineoplastic agents (ANAs) that are hazardous to patients undergoing chemotherapy and the healthcare workers who handle ANAs in the course of their duties. All aspects related to hazardous oncological drugs illustrate that the monitoring of ANAs is essential to minimize the risks associated with these drugs. Among all analytical techniques used to test ANAs, electrochemistry holds an important position. This review, for the first time, comprehensively describes the progress done in electrochemistry of ANAs by means of a variety of bare or modified (bio)sensors over the last four decades (in the period of 1982-2021). Attention is paid not only to the development of electrochemical sensing protocols of ANAs in various biological, environmental, and pharmaceutical matrices but also to achievements of electrochemical techniques in the examination of the interactions of ANAs with deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), carcinogenic cells, biomimetic membranes, peptides, and enzymes. Other aspects, including the enantiopurity studies, differentiation between single-stranded and double-stranded DNA without using any label or tag, studies on ANAs degradation, and their pharmacokinetics, by means of electrochemical techniques are also commented. Finally, concluding remarks that underline the existence of a significant niche for the basic electrochemical research that should be filled in the future are presented.

Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes (LM) is one of the most common food-borne pathogens and can induce a series of diseases with a high mortality rate to humans; hence, it is very necessary to develop a highly sensitive method for LM detection. Based on this need, a new sandwich-like electrochemical immunosensing platform was developed herein by preparing carboxyl Ti3C2Tx MXene (C-Ti3C2Tx MXene) as the sensing platform and rhodamine b/gold/reduced graphene oxide (RhB/Au/RGO) as the signal amplifier. The high conductivity and large surface area of C-Ti3C2Tx MXene make it a desirable nanomaterial to fix the primary antibody of LM (PAb), while the prepared Au/RGO/RhB nanohybrid is dedicated to assembling the secondary antibody (SAb) of LM, offering an amplified response signal. Through the use of RhB molecule as the signal probe, the experiments showed that the peak currents of RhB increase along with an increase in the concentration of LM from 10 to 105 CFU mL-1, and an extremely low limit of detection (2 CFU mL-1) was obtained on the basis of the proposed immunosensing platform after optimizing various conditions. Hence, it is confirmed that the developed sandwich-like immunosensor based on C-Ti3C2Tx MXene and RhB/Au/Gr has great application in the detection of LM and other analytes.

Abstract
Development of MXene (Ti3C2Cl2)-based sensing platforms by exploiting their inherent active electrochemistry is highly challenging due to their characteristic poor stability in air and water. Herein, we report a cost-effective methodology to deposit MXene on a conductive graphitic pencil electrode (GPE). MXenes can provide active surface area due to their clever morphology of accordion-like sheets; however, the disposition to stack together limits their potential applications. A task-specific ionic liquid (1-methyl imidazolium acetate) is utilized as a multiplex host material to engineer MXene interface via π-π interactions as well as to act as a selective binding site for biomolecules. The resulting IL-MXene/GPE interface proved to be a highly stable interface owing to good interactions between MXene and IL that inhibited electrode leaching and boosted electron transfer at the electrode-electrolyte interface. It resulted in robust dopamine (DA) oxidation with amplified faradaic response and enhanced sensitivity (9.61 µA µM-1 cm-2) for DA detection. This fabricated sensor demonstrated large linear range (10 µM - 2000 µM), low detection limit (702 nM), high reproducibility, and good selectivity. We anticipate that such platform will pave the way for the development of stable and economically viable MXene-based sensors without sacrificing their inherent properties. Scheme 1 Schematic illustration of the IL-MXene/GPE fabrication and oxidative process towards non-enzymatic dopamine sensor.

Abstract
A novel electrochemical sensor has been fabricated for sensitive determination of zearalenone (ZEA) in food samples based on molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2 QDs) and two-dimensional titanium carbide (2D-Ti3C2Tx MXene) co-modified multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) heterostructure. Physical and electrochemical characterizations reveal that 2D-Ti3C2Tx and MoS2 QDs co-modified MWCNTs yields synergistic signal amplification effect, together with large specific surface area and excellent conductivity for the heterostructure, endowing the developed sensor with high detection performance to ZEA. Under optimized conditions, the sensor shows a wide linear range from 3.00 to 300 ng mL-1 and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.32 ng mL-1, which is far lower than the maximum residue limits (MRLs) settled by the European Commission. In addition, it exhibits excellent selectivity, high reproducibility with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 1.1%, and good repeatability (RSD 1.1%). In real sample analysis recoveries ranged from 94.8 to 105% showing the proposed electrochemical sensor has high potential in practical applications. This work presents an effective and valuable pathway for the use of novel heterostructure in the biosensing field.

Abstract
Since the successful preparation of few-layer transition metal carbides from three-dimensional MAX phases in 2011, MXenes (known as a family of layered transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides) have been intensively studied. Though MXenes have been adopted as active materials in many applications, issues including aggregation and restacking are likely to hamper their potential applications. In order to address these prevailing challenges, the concept of MXene/carbon nanotube (CNT) hybrids was proposed initially in 2015, where CNTs were incorporated as the spacers and conductive additives. Ever since, MXene/CNT hybrids with different architectures have been synthesized by a number of methods and applied in numerous fields. Herein, after the discussion about general synthesis approaches, architectures, and properties of the hybrids, this Review summarized the recent advances in the application of MXene/CNT hybrids in energy storage devices, sensors, electrocatalysis, electromagnetic interference shielding, and water treatment, in which the function of individual components was clarified. In the end, the current research trend in this field were discussed and several technical issues were highlighted along with some suggestions on future research directions.

Abstract
A proof-of-principle concept for free-electrodeposited anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) sensing of Cu2+ is proposed by using Ti3C2Tx MXene/carbon black (Ti3C2Tx@CB) nanohybrids as electrode materials. Owing to the high adsorption and reduction capability of Ti3C2Tx towards Cu2+, Ti3C2Tx MXene enables Cu2+ to be immobilized and self-reduced directly to form Cu0 on the Ti3C2Tx@CB electrode surface. As a result an oxidation peak current appears from the re-oxidation of Cu0 via differential pulse voltammetry. Carbon black (CB) was introduced to prevent Ti3C2Tx Mxene aggregation and improve the related electron transfer as well as enhance their surface area. After optimizing various conditions, a considerable low limit of detection (4.6 nM) and a wide linear range (0.01-15.0 μM) for Cu2+ were achieved at the working potential from - 0.3 V to 0.0 V (vs SCE). Relative standard deviation (RSD) of eight individual Ti3C2Tx@CB electrodes is 3.72%, and the recoveries from tap water sample and lake water sample were in the ranges of 97.0-108% and 104-107%, respectively.

Sensitive detection of H2O2 in the nano- to micromolar range is critical for health monitoring and disease diagnosis. Two-dimensional transition metal carbides or/and nitrides (called MXenes, MXs) have excellent potential applications in the electrochemical field due to their outstanding electrical conductivity and catalytic properties. In this work, Ti3C2Tx (MX) was employed for the construction of a sensitive and enzyme-free electrochemical sensing interface for the detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) through a simple and effective method. Prussian blue (PB) was electrochemically deposited on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Chitosan (CS) and MX were sequentially dripped onto the PB modified GCE surface. The reasonable fabrication of the MX/CS/PB/GCE sensing interface presented good electrochemical sensing performance towards H2O2 with a low limit of detection (4 nM), a wide linear range from 50 nM to 667 μM and good selectivity. The proposed MX/CS/PB/GCE has been proven to monitor H2O2 in food samples and biological samples with recoveries between 94.7% and 100.3%. This work has made a beneficial attempt and research for exploring and expanding the application of MXs in the field of electrochemical sensing.
