Abstract
Green pesticides, derived from natural sources, have gained wider attention as an alternative to synthetic pesticides for managing polyphagous pests, such as Spodoptera litura. In this study, the methanolic flower extract of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis (Mx-Na-t) was subjected to chemical screening, and 3-hydroxy-1,2-dimethyl-4(1H)-pyridone (3H-dp) and tyrosol (Ty-ol) were identified as the major derivatives. The toxic effects of Mx-Na-t (500 ppm) were highest in third-instar S. litura larvae (96.4%), while those of 3H-dp and Ty-ol (5 ppm) were highest in second-instar larvae (76.5% and 81.4%, respectively). The growth and development of S. litura larvae and pupae were significantly reduced by all three treatments. Fecundity rates were also reduced by all treatments [from 1020 eggs (control) to 540 eggs by Mx-Na-t treatment, 741 eggs by 3H-dp treatment, and 721 eggs by Ty-ol treatment]. The extract and its active constituents decreased adult emergence and slowed total larval development in a dose-dependent manner. A decrease was noted in the major gut enzymes of young S. litura larvae exposed to Mx-Na-t, 3H-dp, and Ty-ol. Moreover, midgut tissues of fourth-instar larvae were severely damaged by Mx-Na-t (250 ppm), 3H-dp (2.5 ppm), and Ty-ol (2.5 ppm); the treatments induced structural damage to the epithelial cells and gut lumen. The earthworm Eisenia fetida was used to assess nontarget toxicity. Compared with cypermethrin, the phytochemicals exhibited minimal effects on the earthworm's detoxifying enzymes superoxide dismutase and catalase after 14 days of treatment. Moreover, in silico predictions using BeeTox and ProTox-II indicated little or no toxicity of 3H-dp and Ty-ol toward honey bees and other nontarget species.

Abstract
Tyrosol is a natural phenolic compound with potent antioxidant properties in the field of food manufacturing. However, the low lipophilicity of tyrosol limited its application. Therefore, the construction of tyrosol laurate (Tyr-L) could effectively overcome the limitations of tyrosol. In this work, four ionic liquids (ILs) were applied for TYr-L preparation. Among them, the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([Bmim]HSO4) showed the best catalytic performance. The maximum TYr-L yield was achieved (94.24 ± 1.23 %) under the optimal conditions (reaction temperature 119 °C, substrate ratio 1:6.7, IL dosage 9.2 %, and reaction time 12 h). The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were also evaluated and it was found that Ea, ΔH, ΔS, and ΔG were 80.81 kJ·mol-1, 77.63 kJ·mol-1, -82.08 J·(mol·K)-1, and 109.89 kJ·mol-1, respectively. The acidic [Bmim]HSO4 demonstrated excellent reusability and stability, even after 6 cycles. Furthermore, TYr-L showed superior ABTS radical scavenging ability, which could be further applied in various industrial processes.

Abstract
Three new compounds, 4,5,6,7-tetramethoxy-3-benzoylbenzofuran (1), 4-hydroxy-3,5,6-trimethoxydihydrochalcone-2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2) and 2-hydroxy-3,4,5,6-tetramethoxyphenylethyl benzoate (3) along with five known flavonoids were isolated from the dichloromethane fraction of the stems of Fissistigma acuminatissimum Merr.'s ethanol extracts. The compounds were obtained by chromatographic methods and the structure elucidation was completed primarily on the basis of spectroscopic analyses, all of these compounds were isolated from F. acuminatissimum for the first time. All the fractions and compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activity against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) production in RAW264.7 cells in vitro. The dichloromethane fraction showed the most potent inhibition(38.2%) at 60 μg/mL, compound 1 (70.2%) and 3 (65.2%) showed significant inhibition at 10 μM.

Abstract
To develop the medicinal and edible plant resources of Althaea officinalis Linn in Europe and other places, this study concentrated on the bioactive ingredients of its different extracts. The phytochemical compositions of MeOH extracts were evaluated by UPLC-DAD-ESI-Q-TOF-MSn analysis. The in vitro antioxidant properties, enzymes inhibitory effects and nitric oxide (NO) production inhibitory activities of fractions obtained from the aerial parts of Althaea officinalis (APAO) were evaluated. The results identified 76 compounds, including 8 phenolic acids, 17 flavonoids, 6 coumarins, 9 triterpenes and 11 alkaloids. Fr. C-2 of APAO was found to have the highest TPC (175.8 ± 1.5 mg GAE/g) and TFC (466.9 ± 5.0 mg RE/g) with the highest antioxidant capacity in DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP and β-carotene bleaching assays. Fr. A showed noticeable inhibition of α-glucosidase with an IC50 value of 3.8 ± 0.1 μg/mL. However, Fr. B displayed stronger inhibitory activity on 5-lipoxygenase than quercetin, with the IC50 value of 8.4 ± 1.6 μg/mL. In addition, Fr. B also possessed potent inhibitory activities on NO production toward LPS-activated RAW 264.7 Cells with an IC50 value of 15.7 ± 1.6 μg/mL. Our findings suggest that different Althaea officinalis extracts may be considered sources of phenolic and flavonoid compounds with high potential as natural antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents and blood sugar regulators. In addition, they can also be used in food and nutraceutical products with enhanced bioactivities.

Abstract
Phenols are widespread in nature, being the major components of several plants and essential oils. Natural phenols' anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, pharmacological and nutritional properties are, nowadays, well established. Hence, given their peculiar biological role, numerous studies are currently ongoing to overcome their limitations, as well as to enhance their activity. In this review, the functionalization of selected natural phenols is critically examined, mainly highlighting their improved bioactivity after the proper chemical transformations. In particular, functionalization of the most abundant naturally occurring monophenols, diphenols, lipidic phenols, phenolic acids, polyphenols and curcumin derivatives is explored.
