Abstract
Aim: Nurses are well-qualified to deliver integrative complementary therapy interventions, a holistic approach to assist individuals experiencing anxiety and stress. Self-regulated, controlled breathing exercises (a clinical approach) are reported to decrease anxiety and increase stress tolerance. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness of breathing exercise interventions on the psychological and physiologic outcomes of anxiety and stress among adults and assess the state of the science in the post-COVID-19 population. Methods: A systematic review was conducted, and four scientific databases were searched: PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, and Web of Science. Inclusion criteria included: (1) peer-reviewed studies, (2) adults over 18, (3) breathing exercise interventions, and (4) anxiety or stress as outcomes. Results: Out of 309 studies identified, 19 were included. Twelve reported significant improvements in anxiety and nine reported significant improvements in stress following varying breathing exercise interventions (p < .05). No adverse events were reported. Conclusions: Breathing exercises were found to be effective in reducing anxiety and stress in adults, however, there continues to be limited evidence that includes large randomized controlled trials. Breathing exercises are a holistic care approach that can be safely implemented by nurses to decrease symptomatology among adults, including the post-COVID population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted global healthcare systems, particularly in managing critically ill mechanically ventilated patients. This study aims to assess the feasibility of robotic-assisted mobilization in COVID-19 patients. DESIGN Randomized controlled pilot study. SETTING Four COVID-19 specialized ICUs at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin (March 2021 to February 2022). PATIENTS Twenty critically ill COVID-19 patients expected to require greater than 24 hours of ventilation. INTERVENTIONS A 5-day intervention phase with bid robotic-assisted mobilization greater than or equal to 20 minutes and follow-up at day 180, compared with standard care. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS Intervention sessions were conducted in 98.9% according to protocol, with one session missing due to staff shortage. Primary outcome was the mobilization level measured with the ICU Mobility Scale (IMS) and Surgical ICU Optimal Mobilization Score (SOMS), assessed until day 5 or extubation. Safety events were recorded during mobilization. The median IMS and SOMS were 0 (0-0.16) and 1 (1-1.03) in the intervention group, and 0 (0-0.15) ( p = 0.77) and 0.8 (0.65-1.20) ( p = 0.08) in the standard care group, respectively. Significant secondary outcomes included average number of mobilization sessions (intervention: 8.5 [7.75-10] vs. standard care: 4.5 [3.5-5]; p = 0.001), total mobilization time (intervention: 232.5 min [187.25-266.5 min] vs. standard care: 147.5 min [107.5-167.5 min]; p = 0.011), and healthcare providers per session (intervention: 2 [2-2] vs. standard care: 1 [1-1.4]; p = 0.001) during intervention. Four safety events (hypertension and agitation, n = 2 each) in the intervention group and none in the standard care group were reported. CONCLUSIONS Robotic-assisted mobilization in mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients appears to be safe and feasible.

Abstract
In the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, understanding the intricate mechanisms of the body's response to infection and inflammation has become a priority for the medical and research communities. It has been proven that during COVID-19 infection, molecules are secreted-namely organokines, which may directly or indirectly play a role in the pathophysiology of COVID-19. The objective of this study was to scrutinize the potential correlation between the levels of selected myokines (myostatin, agrin, irisin, and myonectin) and the duration of rehabilitation in post-COVID-19 patients. Additionally, the study aimed to investigate whether there is a correlation between the levels of these myokines and the length of hospitalization during COVID-19 treatment. The study was conducted at the Rehabilitation Hospital in Szczecin (Poland). Patients in the study participated in a comprehensive rehabilitation program following COVID-19 treatment. In order to assess the effectiveness of rehabilitation, the following tests were performed: a 6 min walk test with an assessment of exercise tolerance (Borg scale), an assessment of dyspnea severity (mMRC scale), a spirometric assessment of respiratory function, a measurement of arm strength, and an assessment of fatigue using the Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS). Myokine levels were measured using commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) according to the manufacturer's instructions. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistica 13.1 software. Lower concentrations of irisin and myonectin and higher concentrations of myostatin correlated with longer rehabilitation time. Baseline levels of specific myokines in post-COVID-19 patients could play a crucial role in anticipating the duration of rehabilitation. The duration of hospitalization for the infection may influence myokine levels in patients recovering from COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Long-term consequences after COVID-19 include physical complaints, which may impair physical recovery and quality of life. DESIGN We assessed body composition and physical ability in patients 12 months after COVID-19. Consecutively recruited patients recovering from mild to severe COVID-19 were assessed using bioelectrical impedance analysis, 6-min-walk test, additional scales for physical performance and health-related quality of life. RESULTS Overall physical recovery was good (i.e., Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended ≥7 in 96%, Modified Rankin Scale ≤1 in 87%, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group ≤1 in 99%). Forty-four percent of the 69 patients experienced a significant body mass index increase in the year after COVID-19 (≥1 kg/m 2 ), whereas skeletal muscle mass index was reduced in only 12%. Patients requiring intensive care treatment ( n = 15, 22%) during acute COVID-19 more often had a body mass index increase ( P = 0.002), worse 6-min-walk test-performance ( P = 0.044), and higher body fat mass ( P = 0.030) at the 1-yr follow-up when compared with patients with mild ( n = 22, 32%) and moderate ( n = 32, 46%) acute COVID-19. Body mass index increase was also more frequent in patients who had no professional rehabilitation ( P = 0.014). CONCLUSIONS Although patients with severe COVID-19 had increased body mass index and body fat and performed worse in physical outcome measures 1 yr after COVID-19, overall physical recovery was satisfying. Translating these findings to variants beyond the Alpha strain of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus needs further studies.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has placed unparalleled pressure on many countries' healthcare systems, impacting the delivery of health and nursing care services. Despite the growing number of missed care studies during the pandemic, a broader perspective is essential when designing theory-driven strategies to improve nursing care delivery. This review aimed to synthesize evidence of missed nursing care during the COVID-19 pandemic in acute care settings through a systematic review and narrative synthesis. An electronic search of articles published since the emergence of the pandemic was conducted using 5 databases (Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsycINFO). A total of 470 articles were identified during the initial search, and 10 articles were included in the review. The sample sizes of the studies ranged from 37 to 536 nurses. Results of the content analysis were grouped into 5 categories: (1) prevalence of missed care, (2) frequency of missed care, (3) reasons for missed care, (4) nurses' and organizational variables contributing to missed care, and (5) work environment elements contributing to missed care. The review's findings revealed a shift in the nature of missed nursing care during the pandemic, with an emphasis on nursing care tasks vital for the recovery of patients with COVID-19. Despite the unique circumstances brought about by the pandemic, an inadequate nursing workforce continued to be identified as the primary reason for missed care, consistent with the pre-pandemic period.

Abstract
Estimates of 10-49% of patients may experience ongoing symptoms after COVID-19, including dyspnea. Respiratory muscle strength training has been used to reduce dyspnea in other respiratory diseases, thus, it may be a viable option for individuals with post-COVID-19 symptoms. The objective of this review was to evaluate the evidence for the effectiveness of respiratory muscle strength training for individuals with post-COVID-19 dyspnea. A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. CINAHL, Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and Scopus databases were searched from 2020-2023. Eleven articles met the inclusion criteria. Pulmonary measures were improved in all but one study, and dyspnea, physical capacity and quality of life measures achieved statistical significance. Outcomes improved following respiratory muscle strength training as a standalone intervention, or with aerobic and peripheral muscle strength training.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the role of physiotherapists in assisting patients suspected to have or diagnosed with COVID-19 hospitalized in intensive care units in Brazil regarding technical training, working time, care practice, labor conditions and remuneration. METHODS An analytical cross-sectional survey was carried out through an electronic questionnaire distributed to physiotherapists who worked in the care of patients with COVID-19 in Brazilian intensive care units. RESULTS A total of 657 questionnaires were completed by physiotherapists from the five regions of the country, with 85.3% working in adult, 5.4% in neonatal, 5.3% in pediatric and 3.8% in mixed intensive care units (pediatric and neonatal). In intensive care units with a physiotherapists available 24 hours/day, physiotherapists worked more frequently (90.6%) in the assembly, titration, and monitoring of noninvasive ventilation (p = 0.001). Most intensive care units with 12-hour/day physiotherapists (25.8%) did not apply any protocol compared to intensive care units with 18-hour/day physiotherapy (9.9%) versus 24 hours/day (10.2%) (p = 0.032). Most of the respondents (51.0%) received remuneration 2 or 3 times the minimum wage, and only 25.1% received an additional payment for working with patients suspected to have or diagnosed with COVID-19; 85.7% of them did not experience a lack of personal protective equipment. CONCLUSION Intensive care units with 24-hour/day physiotherapists had higher percentages of protocols and noninvasive ventilation for patients with COVID-19. The use of specific resources varied between the types of intensive care units and hospitals and in relation to the physiotherapists' labor conditions. This study showed that most professionals had little experience in intensive care and low wages.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate possible persistent performance deficits after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in elite athletes. METHODS A prospective cohort study in three Belgian professional male football teams was performed during the 2020 - 2021 season. Participants were submitted to strength, jump, and sprint tests and an aerobic performance test (the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery test (YYIR)). These tests were repeated at fixed time intervals throughout the season. Assessment of SARS-CoV-2 infection was performed by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test before each official game. RESULTS Of the 84 included participants, 22 were infected with SARS-CoV-2 during follow-up. At the first testing after infection (52.0 ± 11.2 days after positive PCR testing) significantly higher percentages of maximal heart rate (%HRmax) were seen - within the isolated group of infected players- during (p = .006) and after the YYIR (2 min after, p = .013), compared to pre-infection data. This increase in %HRmax was resolved at the second YYIR testing after infection (127.6 ± 33.1 days after positive PCR testing). Additionally, when comparing the first test after infection in formerly infected to non-infected athletes, significantly higher %HRmax were found during (p < .001) and after the YYIR test (p < .001),No significant deficits were found for the jump, muscular strength or sprint tests. Aerobic performance seems compromised even weeks after infection. Simultaneously, anaerobic performance seemed to be spared. Because of the potential detrimental effects on the immune system, caution might be advised with high-intensity exposure until aerobic performance is restored.KEY MESSAGESElite football players' aerobic performance seems to be affected for weeks after they return to sports after a SARS-CoV-2 infection.Similarly, anaerobic performance tests showed no discernible changes between both before and after SARS-CoV-2 infections.Regular YYIR testing is recommended to monitor aerobic performance after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Abstract
This study investigated the prevalence and the potential risk factors for anxiety and depression among physiotherapists during the pandemic. Physiotherapists answered a web-based questionnaire including 1) sociodemographic, professional and clinical information; 2) psychosocial demands; and 3) two validated questionnaires to measure anxiety and depression. Binary logistic regression identified the risk factors by means of odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). In 417 participants, there was a high prevalence of anxiety (48.2%) and depression (53.0%). The risk factors for anxiety were female sex (OR 2.07; 95%CI 1.01-4.24), worsening in sleep patterns (OR 3.78; 95%CI 1.92-7.44), moderate (OR 2.24; 95%CI 1.00-5.00) and extreme concern about financial issues (OR 3.47; 95%CI 1.57-7.65), and extreme loneliness (OR 3.47; 95%CI 1.71-7.07). The risk factors for depression were female sex (OR 2.16; 95%CI 1.03-4.55), low family income (OR 2.43; 95%CI 1.21-4.89), worsening in sleep patterns (OR 5.97; 95%CI 3.02-11.82), extreme concern about financial issues (OR 2.61; 95%CI 1.15-5.94), and extreme loneliness (OR 4.38; 95%CI 2.00-9.63). This study found a high prevalence of anxiety and depression in the studied population and identified risk factors for both.

Abstract
It is estimated that at least 10% of people who have had COVID-19 will experience ongoing symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and cognitive disturbances. Pulmonary exercise has demonstrated improved dyspnea outcomes in other respiratory conditions. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of a home-based pulmonary rehabilitation program in post-COVID-19 survivors who continue to experience dyspnea. This was a longitudinal, single group pilot study in which 19 patients received a home-based expiratory muscle strength training program over 12 weeks. Outcomes measured at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks included pulmonary symptoms, functional performance, thoracic expansion, forced expiratory volume, and expiratory resistance measures. Significant improvements were found in pulmonary symptoms (p < .001), functional performance (p = .014), and progressive expiratory resistance capabilities (p < .001). A home-based pulmonary program may be an inexpensive strategy for post-COVID-19 survivors who continue to experience dyspnea.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges to global healthcare systems regarding the care of acute patients and the delivery of rehabilitation programs to post-acute or chronic patients. Patients who survive severe forms of COVID-19 often report incomplete healing and long-term symptoms. The need of these patients for rehabilitation has been recognized as a public health problem. In this context, the application of tele-rehabilitation has been explored to reduce the burden on healthcare systems. The purpose of this narrative review is to present an overview of the state of the art regarding the application of remote motor rehabilitation programs for paucisymptomatic acute and post-acute COVID-19 patients, with a focus on the motor aspects of tele-rehabilitation. Following an extensive search on PubMed, the Web of Science, and Scopus, specific studies have been reviewed and compared in terms of study objectives and participants, experimental protocols and methods for home-based interventions, functional assessment, and rehabilitation outcomes. Overall, this review suggests the feasibility and the effectiveness of tele-rehabilitation as a promising tool to complement face-to-face rehabilitation interventions. However, further improvements are needed to overcome the limitations and the current lack of knowledge in the field.

Abstract
Previous studies have reported on associations between immobility syndrome and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, little is known about the aggravation of this syndrome in older patients negative for COVID-19 infection amidst behavior restriction due to a clustered COVID-19 infection. Patients hospitalized one month before a clustered COVID-19 infection occurred in our hospital were recruited. Rehabilitation therapy was suspended for 25 days during behavior restriction. The ability of daily living of the patients was evaluated with the functional independence measure and Barthel index. Chronological changes in the functional independence measure and Barthel index scores were evaluated monthly, beginning one month before the clustered COVID-19 infection to one month after re-initiation of rehabilitation therapy. Patients with minimum scores in the functional independence measure (18) and Barthel index (0) prior to the clustered COVID-19 infection were excluded. Functional independence measure scores of 73 older patients and the Barthel index scores of 48 patients were analyzed. The mean total functional independence measure score amidst the behavior restriction significantly changed from 36.3 to 35.1 (p = 0.019), while statistical significance was not detected in the mean motor subtotal (from 21.6 to 20.9 with p = 0.247) or cognitive subtotal functional independence measure scores (from 14.6 to 14.2 with p = 0.478). During the behavior restriction, the mean Barthel index scores declined from 25.8 to 23.2 without statistical significance (p = 0.059). Behavior restriction due to a clustered COVID-19 infection may aggravate immobility syndrome in older patients who are negative for COVID-19.

Abstract
The worldwide pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus has impacted all healthcare systems. One potential sequela experienced by hospitalized coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) survivors includes muscle weakness with a reduction in strength and, consequently, a possible increase in frailty. The aim of this clinical trial was to evaluate the efficacy of adding an online therapeutic exercise program for 8 weeks to the medical prescriptions on functional variables in patients hospitalized due to COVID-19. A randomized controlled trial including 70 previously hospitalized COVID-19 survivors was conducted. Patients were randomly allocated to an experimental (n = 35) or control (n = 35) group. Both groups received regular prescriptions provided by their medical doctors. The experimental group also received a live online therapeutic exercise program for 8 weeks (3 sessions/week). Handgrip strength, gait speed, lower-extremity strength, balance, and frailty were assessed at baseline, at the end of the program, and one month after the end of the intervention. The repeated measures analysis of variance revealed significant Group*Time interactions for all the outcomes: (handgrip dominant: F = 17.395, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.24; handgrip non-dominant: F = 33.197, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.33; 4 m walk test (4WT): F = 13.039, p = 0.001, η2 = 0.16; short physical performance battery (SPPB): F = 26.421, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.28; the five chair-raise test (5CRT): F = 5.628, p = 0.004, η2 = 0.08; FRAIL scale: F = 11.249, p = 0.001, η2 = 0.14): patients in the experimental group experienced greater improvements in all outcomes than those assigned to the control group. This study revealed that the addition of an online exercise program for 8 weeks obtained greater improvements in handgrip strength, gait speed, lower-extremity strength, balance, and frailty in a sample of previously hospitalized COVID-19 survivors than application of just usual medical prescription.

Abstract
Many clinical practice recommendations indicate rehabilitation as essential for patients with sequelae of severe or critical COVID-19 and suggest the prompt initiation of a multicomponent rehabilitation program focused on aerobic and endurance training. However, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding aerobic exercise are lacking. Therefore, we aimed to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the addition of aerobic training to standard rehabilitation in subjects with subacute COVID-19. Participants were 32/214 patients with the sequelae of severe or critical COVID-19 in the acute phase who were eligible and agreed to participate in the study (eligibility = 15%, recruitment = 100%). After randomization and assessment with functional and strength tests, all the participants underwent an inpatient-tailored rehabilitation program (50 min/day, 5 days/week, 10 sessions); in addition, the experimental group performed a low- to moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (30 min/day, 10 sessions). No dropouts or severe adverse events were reported, with an attendance rate of 95.6%. Most of the secondary outcomes significantly improved in both groups, but the improvement in the Functional Independence Measure and Cumulated Ambulation Score-Italian version was significantly greater in the experimental group (at least, p < 0.05). This RCT showed that aerobic exercise is feasible and safe in subacute COVID-19. Moreover, it appears to be beneficial and useful in improving patients' independence and mobility.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is seriously endangering human health worldwide. This study finds effective intervention modalities of physical activity on COVID-19 through a narrative review. METHODS In this study, 41 papers were selected for a narrative literature review after a comprehensive database search from 20 December 2019, to 30 August 2022. RESULTS 41 articles meet the established criteria, and in this review, we comprehensively describe recent studies on exercise and COVID-19, including the impact and recommendations of exercise on COVID-19 prevention, patients with COVID-19, and noninfected populations. CONCLUSIONS The literature suggests that physical activity (PA) contributes to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19, can promote recovery of physical function, alleviate post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, and improve patients' psychological well-being. It is recommended to develop appropriate exercise prescriptions for different populations under the guidance of a physician.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly threatened healthcare systems worldwide. The worst-hit population has been represented by older people with underlying chronic comorbidities, while children and adolescents developed mild or asymptomatic forms of the disease. However, certain medical conditions (i.e., obesity, respiratory, or neurological or immune disorders) may increase the risk for poor health outcomes even in young and middle-aged people. Beyond the direct negative effects of the infection, the pandemic posed several health challenges through an increase in psycho-social issues (i.e., anxiety, depression, fatigue, sleep alterations, loneliness, reduced assistance, and loss of income). Accordingly, the pandemic is negatively impacting the accumulation of the functional reserves of each individual, starting from early life. With the long-term effects of the pandemic to be seen in the coming years, clinicians must be prepared to manage such high clinical complexity of people they encounter, through the implementation of multidimensional and multidisciplinary interventions.

Abstract
Background: Patients recovered from COVID-19 often suffer from the sequelae of the disease, which can hinder the patients’ activity in daily living. Early recognition of the patients at risk of prolonged hospitalization and impaired physical functioning is crucial for early intervention. We aim to identify the predictors of prolonged hospitalization and impaired activity in daily living in this study. Methods: COVID-19 patients hospitalized in a medical center were divided into two groups according to the Barthel index three months after discharge and the median length of hospital stay, respectively. Chi-square test and Mann–Whitney U test were performed to check the differences between the two groups in patient characteristics as well as hematology tests at the emergency department, the intensive care unit mobility scale (ICUMS), and the medical research council sum score (MRCSS). Logistic regression and the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were further performed for the factors with significant differences between the two groups. Results: Both ICUMS and MRCSS showed significant differences between the groups. The ICUMS had an odds ratio of 0.61 and the MRCSS of 0.93 in predicting a Barthel index score less than 100 three months after discharge. The MRCSS had an odds ratio of 0.82 in predicting a prolonged length of hospital stay. Conclusion: Both ICUMS and MRCSS upon admission are predictive of a Barthel index score of less than 100 three months after discharge. On the other hand, only MRCSS has predictive value of a prolonged hospitalization.

Abstract
It is now more than 2 years since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected people around the globe, particularly older persons, who are at the highest risk of severe disease. In addition, many of those who survive will have symptoms that persist after the initial infection. COVID-19 infection severely affects function and mobility through its impact on the musculoskeletal system. This article focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on physical activity in older people and subsequent effects and implications for function and quality of life.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a worldwide pandemic illness that is impacting the cardiovascular, pulmonary, musculoskeletal, and cognitive function of a large spectrum of the worldwide population. The available pharmacological countermeasures of these long-term effects of COVID-19 are minimal, while myriads of non-specific non-pharmacological treatments are emerging in the literature. In this complicated scenario, particular emphasis should be dedicated to specific exercise interventions tailored for subjects and athletes recovering from COVID-19. Specific guidelines on adapted physical activity in this critical population are unavailable so far, therefore, in this position statement of the Società Italiana di Scienze Motorie e Sportive (SISMeS) the members of the steering committee of the research group Attività Motoria Adattata, Alimentazione, Salute e Fitness have indicated the adapted physical activity approaches to counteract the long-term effects of the COVID-19, both in good health people and athletes.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to several pioneering scientific discoveries resulting in no effective solutions with the exception of vaccination. Moderate exercise is a significant non-pharmacological strategy, to reduce the infection-related burden of COVID-19, especially in patients who are obese, elderly, and with additional comorbidities. The imbalance of T helper type 1 (Th1) or T helper type 2 (Th2) cells has been well documented among populations who have suffered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and who are at maximum risk of infection and mortality. Moderate and low intensity exercise can benefit persons at risk from the disease and survivors by favorable modulation in Th1/Th2 ratios. Moreover, in COVID-19 patients, mild to moderate intensity aerobic exercise also increases immune system function but high intensity aerobic exercise may have adverse effects on immune responses. In addition, sustained hypoxia in COVID-19 patients has been reported to cause organ failure and cell death. Hypoxic conditions have also been highlighted to be triggered in COVID-19-susceptible individuals and COVID-19 survivors. This suggests that hypoxia inducible factor (HIF 1α) might be an important focus for researchers investigating effective strategies to minimize the effects of the pandemic. Intermittent hypoxic preconditioning (IHP) is a method of exposing subjects to short bouts of moderate hypoxia interspersed with brief periods of normal oxygen concentrations (recovery). This methodology inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory factors, activates HIF-1α to activate target genes, and subsequently leads to a higher production of red blood cells and hemoglobin. This increases angiogenesis and increases oxygen transport capacity. These factors can help alleviate virus induced cardiopulmonary hemodynamic disorders and endothelial dysfunction. Therefore, during the COVID-19 pandemic we propose that populations should engage in low to moderate exercise individually designed, prescribed and specific, that utilizes IHP including pranayama (yoga), swimming and high-altitude hiking exercise. This would be beneficial in affecting HIF-1α to combat the disease and its severity. Therefore, the promotion of certain exercises should be considered by all sections of the population. However, exercise recommendations and prescription for COVID-19 patients should be structured to match individual levels of capability and adaptability.

Abstract
Although coronavirus disease 2019 can cause immobility syndrome in the patients positive for coronavirus disease 2019 and the survivors of coronavirus disease 2019, it is not described in elderly patients who are not positive for coronavirus disease 2019. A 90-year-old female with motor weakness of the lower extremities was admitted in the chronic care hospital. She had rehabilitation therapy for independent ambulation and toilet activities. Though she complained of irregular pulse related to atrial fibrillation during rehabilitation therapy, the symptom disappeared within a few minutes. Her ambulation and toilet activities became better with rehabilitation therapy. However, three weeks after initiating rehabilitation therapy, a cluster of coronavirus disease 2019 infections occurred. The patient was not infected, but rehabilitation therapy was discontinued for 25 days. The patient exhibited ambulation difficulty with shortness of breath and persistent irregular pulse, especially when rehabilitation therapy was reinitiated. These symptoms did not appear while the patient was outside of rehabilitation therapy. At the time of writing, she started to recover her declined ambulation with rehabilitation therapy, but was still dependent in toileting. Immobility syndrome in elderly patients negative for coronavirus disease 2019 can be aggravated following the occurrence of a low-level cluster of coronavirus disease 2019 infections. Medical workers should, therefore, always consider this hidden risk and should plan an adequate program in the early period of rehabilitation therapy for the elderly patients.

Abstract
Critically ill patients that stay in Intensive Care Units (ICU) for long periods suffer from Post-Intensive Care Syndrome or ICU Acquired Weakness, whose effects can decrease patients' quality of life for years. To prevent such issues and aiming at shortening intensive care treatments, Early Mobilisation (EM) has been proposed as an encouraging technique: the literature includes numerous examples of the benefits of EM on the prevention of post-operative complications and adverse events. However, the appropriate application of EM programmes entails the use of scarce resources, both human and technical. Information and Communication Technologies can play a key role in reducing cost and improving the practice of EM. Although there is rich literature on EM practice and its potential benefits, there are some barriers that must be overcome, and technology, i.e., the use of sensors, robotics or information systems, can contribute to that end. This article reviews the literature and analyses on the use of technology in the area of EM, and moreover, it proposes a smart health-enhanced scenario.

Abstract
Background Coronavirusdisease 2019 (COVID‐19) pneumosepsis survivors are at a high risk of developing intensive care unit (ICU)–acquired weakness (ICUAW) because of high incidence of acute respiratory distress syndrome and the common need for prolonged invasive ventilation. It remains unknown whether regular postpneumosepsis physical rehabilitation strategies are suitable for this extraordinary patient category. Methods We retrospectively compared the physical recovery of COVID‐19 and non‐COVID pneumosepsis ICU survivors during post‐ICU hospitalization, defined as the difference in performance on the Medical Research Council Sum‐Score (MRC‐SS), Chelsea Critical Care Physical Assessment tool (CPAx), and percentage of predicted handgrip strength (POP‐HGS). An analysis of covariance model was built using age, sex, Barthel index, body mass index, admission Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation II score, adequacy of protein delivery during ICU stay, and ward length of stay as covariates. Results Thirty‐five COVID‐19 ICU patients could be compared with 21 non‐COVID pneumosepsis ICU survivors. All patients scored ≤48 on the MRC‐SS at ICU discharge, indicating ICUAW. When controlling for covariates, COVID‐19 patients performed worse on all physical assessments upon ICU discharge, but had improved more at hospital discharge on the MRC‐SS (ɳ2 = 0.214, P =.002) and CPAx (ɳ2 = 0.153, P =.011). POP‐HGS remained lower in COVID‐19 patients throughout hospital stay. Conclusion COVID‐19 ICU survivors are vulnerable to ICUAW, but they show better tendency towards physical rehabilitation than non‐COVID pneumosepsis ICU survivors during the post‐ICU hospitalization period regarding MRC‐SS and CPAx. COVID‐19 ICU patients might benefit from early, more intensive physical therapy.

Abstract
Patients with severe coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) are at high risk of developing ICU-acquired weakness and disuse syndrome. Although their medical management may include prolonged deep sedation for pulmonary protection and ventilator management, we aim for early mobilization of these patients with COVID-19. We present the case of a 71-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and COVID-19 pneumonia. Passive range of motion training and sitting on the edge of the bed were started in the ICU while the patient was under deep sedation. His activities of daily living eventually improved to where he could independently walk to the toilet without respiratory distress. Patients with severe COVID-19 who require mechanical ventilation are at risk of muscle weakness and exercise intolerance. These patients require rehabilitation therapy, beginning in the acute phase of illness, to recover their physical function. Although validation with a larger cohort is necessary, our results suggest that patients with COPD and COVID-19 pneumonia should undergo rehabilitation concurrently with status-driven changes in respiratory management.
