Molecular structures of M(II) chelates with compartmental (N,N)-, (N,O)- and (N,S)-donor ligands and articulated metal chelate cycles

Molecular structures of variousd-element M(II) ion chelates with compartmental (N,N)-, (N,O)-, and (N,S)-donor atomic ligands forming as a result of complexing with M(II) three or four articulated metal chelate cycles have been systematized and discussed in detail. It has been shown that, on the whole, such metalmacrocyclic compounds, as a rule, have molecular structures with non-coplanar chelate nodes and non-coplanar macrocycles. The review covers the period 2000–2017.

Naked-eye detection of biologically important anions by a new chromogenic azo-azomethine sensor

A new chromogenic azo-azomethine sensor, containing active phenolic sites, has been designed and synthesized via condensation reaction of N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-aminoethyl)-2,2-dimethyl propane-1,3-diamine with 1-(3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenylazo)-4-nitrobenzene. The anion recognition ability of the synthesized receptor was evaluated using UV-Vis spectroscopy and (1)H NMR technique. The anion recognition studies exhibited that the receptor acts as a sensor for biologically important anions such as F(-), AcO(-) and H2PO4(-) over other anions. The binding stoichiometry between sensor and anions was found to be 1:2. (1)H NMR experiment revealed that sensor recognizes anions via H-bonds and subsequent deprotonation to elicit a vivid color change. Interestingly, the sensory system not only let for the naked eye detection without any spectroscopic instrumentation but also helped to discriminate between anions.

Modern spectroscopic technique in the characterization of biosensitive macrocyclic Schiff base ligand and its complexes: inhibitory activity against plantpathogenic fungi

Complexes of the type [M(L)Cl2], where M = Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) have been synthesized with a macrocyclic Schiff base ligand (1,4,5,7,10,11,12,15-octaaza,5,11,16,18-tetraphenyl, 3,4,12,13-tetramethyl cyclo-octadecane) derived from Schiff base (obtained by the condensation of 4-aminoantipyrine and dibenzoyl methane) and ethylenediamine. The ligand was characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, (1)H NMR, EI Mass and molecular modeling studies while the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, electronic and EPR spectral studies. All the complexes are non-electrolyte in nature. The covalency factor (β) and coefficient factor (α) suggest the covalent nature of the complexes. The ligand and its metal complexes have shown antifungal activity with their LD50 values determined by probit analysis against two economically important fungal plant pathogens i.e. Macrophomina phaseolina and Fusarium solani.

Synthesis, molecular modeling and spectroscopic characterization of nickel(II), copper(II), complexes of new 16-membered mixed-donor macrocyclic schiff base ligand incorporating a pendant alcohol function

Complexes of Cu(II) and Ni(II) of the composition [M(L)X] [where M=Ni(II), Cu(II) and X=Cl-, NO3-, CH3COO-] were synthesized with 1,5-dioxo-9,10-diaza-3,ol-tribenzo-(7,6,10,11,14,15) peptadecane, a N2O2 macrocyclic ligand. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements, UV-vis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, EPR and molecular modeling studies. All the complexes are non-electrolyte in nature. On the basis of spectral studies, an octahedral geometry has been assigned for Ni(II) complexes and a tetragonal geometry for Cu(II) complexes.

Electrochemical, catalytic and antimicrobial activity of N-functionalized tetraazamacrocyclic binuclear nickel(II) complexes

The five binuclear nickel(II) complexes have been synthesized by the Schiff base condensation of 1,8-[bis(3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-methyl)benzyl]-l,4,8,11-tetraazacyclo-tetradecane (PC) with appropriate aliphatic diamines and nickel(II) perchlorate. All the five complexes were characterized by elemental and spectral analysis. The electronic spectra of the complexes show three d-d transition in the range of 550-1055 nm due to 3A2g→3T2g(F), 3A2g→3T1g(F) and 3A2g→3T1g(P). These spin allowed electronic transitions are characteristic of an octahedral Ni2+ center. Electrochemical studies of the complexes show two irreversible one electron reduction waves at cathodic region. The reduction potential of the complexes shifts towards anodically upon increasing the chain length of the macrocyclic ring. All the nickel(II) complexes show two irreversible one electron oxidation waves at anodic region. The oxidation potential of the complexes shift towards anodically upon increasing the chain length of the macrocyclic ring. The catalytic activities of the complexes were observed to be increase with increase the macrocyclic ring size. The observed rate constant values for the catalytic hydrolysis of 4-nitrophenyl phosphate are in the range of 5.85×10(-3) to 9.14×10(-3) min(-1). All the complexes were screened for antimicrobial activity.

New asymmetric heptaaza Schiff base macrocyclic complex of Mn(II): Crystal structure, biological and DFT studies

A new asymmetric heptaaza Schiff base macrocyclic bis(pendant donor) manganese(II) complex, [MnL(1)](ClO(4))(2).CH(3)CN (1), has been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods. The antimicrobial activity of 1 and a series of its familiar symmetric heptaaza [15]pydieneN(5), [16]pydieneN(5), and [17]pydieneN(5)-based bis-(2-aminoethyl) pendant armed Schiff base macrocyclic complexes of Mn(II) were tested against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. The results showed that the symmetric heptaaza [16]pydieneN(5), and [17]pydieneN(5)-based Schiff base macrocyclic complexes of Mn(II) had remarkable inhibition zone on the culture of S. aureus and E. coli as compared with standard drugs. The optimized geometry of the prepared complex has been obtained from density functional method, DFT, using B3LYP/6-31G* basis set.

Synthesis and characterisation of Schiff base macrocyclic Pb(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and La(III) complexes by template reaction of (±)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane with metal nitrates and salicylaldehyde derivatives

Eight macrocyclic complexes have been synthesised by template reaction of (±)- trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane with metal nitrates and 1,10-bis(2-formylphenyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraoxadecane or 1,7-bis(2-formylphenyl)-1,4,7-trioxaheptane, and their structures are proposed on the basis of elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, molar conductivity measurements, 1H The complexes NMR and mass spectra. The metal-to-ligand molar ratios are 1:1 in the complexes, which are 1:2 electrolytes for Pb(II), Cd(II) and Zn(II) and 1:3 electrolytes for La(III)

Synthesis, infrared spectra and thermal studies of Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes with 2-aminobenzaldehyde phenylhydrazone "nitrin" ligand

The, nitrin, 2-aminobenzaldehyde phenylhydrazone (2ABPH) was synthesis by refluxing 2-nitrobenzaldehyde with phenylhydrazine in ethanolic solvent. Three transition metal (II) complexes of 2ABPH have been prepared. Elemental analysis, molar conductivity, IR, UV, 1H NMR, and mass spectra, as well as TG/DTG have been used to characterize these complexes. The complexes have the general formula [M(2ABPH)2]Cl2.nH2O, where M=Zn, Cd, and Hg and n=4, 2 and 0 for Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II), respectively. The ligand and its complexes have been studied for their possible biological activity including antibacterial and antifungal activity.
