Abstract
Background Aging individuals are vulnerable to various Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs). Different behaviors are closely related to a decreased risk of suffering from NCDs: sufficient Physical Activity (PA) (e.g., at least 150 mins Moderate-to-vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA) per week) and a healthy daily diet (e.g., at least five portions of Fruit and Vegetable Intake (FVI), 5-6 taels (189.0-226.8 g) Meat, Fish, Egg and Alternatives (MFEA)). Traditional face-to-face interventions were effective in behavior change. However, it was revealed to be resource-intensive and limited transfer due to poor self-regulation skills outside of face-to-face sessions. Thus, eHealth could be a supplement for older adults outside traditional face-to-face settings. The blended approach combining these two interventions might optimize the intervention effects on lifestyle behavior initiation and maintenance, but little research can be found among Hong Kong older adults. Therefore, the study aims to test a blended intervention to promote PA, diet, and health outcomes among Hong Kong community-dwelling older adults. Methods This study will adopt a 10-week three-arm randomized controlled trial. The blended group will receive weekly (1) two 60-min face-to-face sessions with one for PA and one for diet, and (2) two web-based sessions with one for PA and one for diet. The face-to-face group will receive the same intervention content as the face-to-face sessions in the blended group. The control condition will receive a biweekly telephone call. The outcomes will include MVPA (minutes/week), FVI (portions/day), MFEA consumption (taels/day), social-cognitive factors (self-efficacy, planning, social support, action control), physical health outcomes (clinical indicators, senior physical fitness), mental health outcomes (depression, loneliness) and health-related quality of life. Data collection will be implemented at the pre-test, post-test, and 3-month follow-up test. Discussion This is the first study evaluating a blended intervention promoting multiple health behaviors among Hong Kong community-dwelling older adults. If the effect of the blended intervention is superior to the traditional face-to-face group and the control group, it will enrich lifestyle intervention approaches and can be applied to older adults, helping them obtain health benefits. Abstract
Blended-care, a psychosocial intervention combining traditional, face-to-face therapy with digital mental health tools, has shown potential for improving therapeutic processes, fostering patient engagement, and augmenting clinical outcomes. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the development and effectiveness of blended-care interventions tailored for adults diagnosed with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders or other conditions with psychotic features. Our search strategy spanned three electronic databases (PsycINFO, Web of Science, and PubMed) in accordance with the reporting guidelines outlined by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. We identified 11 papers, each examining the use of one of eight distinct blended-care interventions. Significantly, the majority of these papers (10/11, 91 %) examined these interventions exclusively within controlled research environments, demonstrating both acceptability and favourable impacts on symptomatology and recovery (e.g., 0.22 ≤ Cohen's ds ≤ 1.00). Only one intervention was examined in research settings and real-world conditions, and the shift resulted in low real-world uptake (e.g., only 50 % of practitioners were able to engage at least one of their clients with the intervention) and an inability to reproduce positive changes in clinical outcomes. Additional research is needed to determine the viability of successfully developing and implementing blended-care interventions for psychosis in real-world conditions. An exploration of the developmental processes that could facilitate the transition from research settings to routine clinical practice is vital.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Blended psychotherapy (bPT) combines face-to-face psychotherapy with digital interventions to enhance the effectiveness of mental health treatment. The feasibility and effectiveness of bPT have been demonstrated for various mental health issues, although primarily for patients with higher levels of functioning. OBJECTIVE This scoping review aims to investigate the feasibility, adherence, and effectiveness of bPT for the treatment of patients with severe mental illnesses (SMIs). METHODS Following the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines, we conducted searches in PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, and PsycArticles for studies published until March 23, 2023. RESULTS Out of 587 screened papers, we incorporated 25 studies encompassing 23 bPT interventions, involving a total of 2554 patients with SMI. The intervention formats and research designs exhibited significant variation. Our findings offer preliminary evidence supporting the feasibility of bPT for SMI, although there is limited research on adherence. Nevertheless, the summarized studies indicated promising attrition rates, spanning from 0% to 37%, implying a potential beneficial impact of bPT on adherence to SMI treatment. The quantity of evidence on the effects of bPT for SMI was limited and challenging to generalize. Among the 15 controlled trials, 4 concluded that bPT interventions were effective compared with controls. However, it is noteworthy that 2 of these studies used the same study population, and the control groups exhibited significant variations. CONCLUSIONS Overall, our review suggests that while bPT appears promising as a treatment method, further research is necessary to establish its effectiveness for SMI. We discuss considerations for clinical implementation, directions, and future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Individuals with hoarding disorder, especially those with problems around acquiring, typically demonstrate a lack of motivation and awareness of their problematic behaviours. Since acquiring behaviours are important targets in interventions for hoarding, effective strategies for increasing motivation in this population are required to enhance the acceptability and efficacy of these interventions. METHODS The aim of the current study was to evaluate the ability of a brief online motivational intervention to reduce acquiring in a community sample of high acquirers (N = 159). Participants were randomly assigned to either a motivational interviewing protocol (n = 73) or progressive muscle relaxation control condition (n = 86). Readiness to change and motivation to acquire was measured via self-report, and acquiring behaviour was measured using a modified version of the Preston Acquisition Decision Making Task (to increase ecological validity). RESULTS In both conditions, participants' readiness and motivation to change increased over time. Contrary to hypotheses, the magnitude of this improvement did not significantly differ between conditions. Furthermore, conditions did not perform differently on the behavioural measure of acquiring. LIMITATIONS Insufficient dose of the intervention may have precluded any differences being observed between conditions. CONCLUSIONS Results underscore the need to better address the problem of lowered motivation in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Antisocial behavior during adolescence can have long-lasting negative effects and leads to high societal costs. Forensic Outpatient Systemic Therapy (Forensische Ambulante Systeem Therapie; FAST) is a promising treatment for juveniles aged 12-21 showing severe antisocial behavior. The intensity, content and duration of FAST can be adjusted to the needs of the juvenile and their caregiver(s), which is considered crucial for effective treatment. Next to the regular version of FAST (FASTr), a blended version (FASTb) in which face-to-face contacts are replaced by minimally 50% online contacts over the duration of intervention was developed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The current study will investigate whether FASTb is equally effective as FASTr, and through which mechanisms of change, for whom, and under which conditions FASTr and FASTb work. METHODS A randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be carried out. Participants (N = 200) will be randomly assigned to FASTb (n = 100) or FASTr (n = 100). Data collection will consist of self-report questionnaires and case file analysis, and include a pre-test at the start of the intervention, a post-test immediately after the intervention, and a six month follow-up. Mechanisms of change will be investigated using monthly questionnaires of key variables during treatment. Official recidivism data will be collected at two-year follow-up. DISCUSSION This study aims to improve the effectiveness and quality of forensic mental health care for juveniles with antisocial behavior by studying the effectiveness of blended care, which has not been studied before in treatment of externalizing behavior. If found to be at least as effective as face-to-face treatment, blended treatment can help meet the urgent need for more flexible and efficient interventions in this field. In addition, the proposed study aims to unravel what works for whom, knowledge urgently needed in mental health care for juveniles with severe antisocial behavior. TRIAL REGISTRATION This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov on 07/11/2022, registration number NCT05606978.

Abstract
Hoarding disorder is characterized by difficulty parting with possessions due to strong urges to save the items, leading to the excessive accumulation of items. High clutter levels result in varied personal, social, and legal consequences. Specialized treatments, including individual, virtual, and group cognitive and behavioral therapies, community-based interventions, and peer support approaches have shown preliminary effectiveness. Animal, attachment, and neurobiological models are expanding our understanding of the etiological bases of the disorder. Specialized populations such as children, older adults, and involuntary patients are highlighted as requiring special consideration for intervention and risk mitigation. Directions for future research are identified.

Abstract
An increasing number of studies are blending face-to-face interventions and electronic health (eHealth) interventions to jointly promote physical activity (PA) and diet among people. However, a comprehensive summary of these studies is lacking. This study aimed to synthesize the characteristics of blended interventions and meta-analyze the effectiveness of blended interventions in promoting PA, diet, and weight-related outcomes among adults. Following the PRISMA guidelines, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, Embase, and Web of Science were systematically searched to identify eligible articles according to a series of inclusion criteria. The search was limited to English language literature and publication dates between January 2002 and July 2022. Effect sizes were calculated as standardized mean difference (SMD) for three intervention outcomes (physical activity, healthy diet, and weight-related). Random effect models were used to calculate the effect sizes. A sensitivity analysis and publication bias tests were conducted. Of the 1561 identified studies, 17 were eligible for the systematic review. Studies varied in participants, intervention characteristics, and outcome measures. A total of 14 studies were included in the meta-analyses. There was evidence of no significant publication bias. The meta-analyses indicated that the blended intervention could lead to a significant increase in walking steps (p < 0.001), total PA level (p = 0.01), and diet quality (p = 0.044), a significant decrease in energy intake (p = 0.004), weight (p < 0.001), BMI (p < 0.001), and waist circumferences (p = 0.008), but had no influence on more moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) or fruit and vegetable intake among adults, compared with a control group. The study findings showed that blended interventions achieve preliminary success in promoting PA, diet, and weight-related outcomes among adults. Future studies could improve the blended intervention design to achieve better intervention effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Behavioral addictions are a public health problem that causes harm to both individuals and society. Internet-based interventions offer potential benefits over face-to-face therapy for the treatment of behavioral addictions, including their accessibility, perceived anonymity, and low costs. We systematically reviewed the characteristics and effectiveness of these interventions. METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted in: PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. A standardized methodological quality assessment was performed on all identified studies via the Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP) Quality Assessment Tool. RESULTS Twenty-nine studies were assessed in this systematic review. Between them, considerable heterogeneity was noted in various study characteristics, including screening tools, inclusion criteria, and outcome measures. Attrition rates also ranged widely (9-89%), as did study quality, with three of the 29 studies rated strong, 12 moderate, and 14 weak methodologically. Twenty-two studies focused on gambling disorder, most revealing significant within-group effects for the assessed intervention on gambling-related symptoms and four of these studies identified significant between-group effects. Behavioral addictions studied in the remaining studies included gaming disorder, internet use disorder, hoarding disorder, and pornography use disorder, revealing generally-promising, albeit limited results. CONCLUSIONS Internet-based interventions seem promising at reducing gambling problems, but too few studies have been published, to date, for conclusions to be drawn for other behavioral addictions. Internet-based interventions targeting other behavioral addictions - like gaming disorder, internet use disorder, hoarding disorder, and pornography use disorder - remain under-examined, warranting considerable additional research to assess their effectiveness.

Abstract
Abstract
Hoarding disorder (HD) is characterised by excessive acquisition and distress associated with discarding objects, resulting in significant clutter. At present, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) represents the strongest evidence base for treating HD, although some limitations exist. Little research has examined the effectiveness of remote-CBT interventions for HD in older adults. This case study focuses on Mary, an older female adult presenting with clinically significant hoarding behaviours which severely impact her daily functioning and quality of life. Assessment and intervention followed a structured CBT approach. Despite the complicating factor of COVID-19, Mary responded well to a remote-CBT intervention, with progress indicators suggesting modest improvements in personal, social and occupational functioning. These findings support the use of remote-CBT for HD in both reducing frequency and intensity of hoarding behaviours and improving wellbeing.

Abstract
Individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) commonly receive non-evidence based, ineffective treatments. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) has been demonstrated to be the gold standard treatment for treating SAD. Scalable web-based CBT programs ensure evidence-based treatment procedures, but low treatment adherence remains problematic. This study aimed to test whether adding group sessions to a fully automated web-based CBT program, Overcome Social Anxiety (OSA), would increase treatment adherence. A total of 69 participants were provided access to a web-based program, and randomly allocated to three conditions: 1) An experimental condition involving an addition of three online group psychoeducation sessions; 2) a placebo condition involving an addition of three online progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) group sessions, or 3) a control condition where participants did not receive group sessions. Adherence was operationalised as number of OSA modules completed. Treatment adherence significantly differed between the conditions. On average, participants assigned to the placebo condition completed significantly more of the program compared to those in the control condition. Further, all conditions produced a significant improvement in BFNE and QOLS. No significant difference in treatment efficacy was found between groups on the SIAS, BFNE or QOLS. The current results indicate PMR can improve treatment adherence for scalable social anxiety interventions.

Abstract
We carried out a case study with a group of female victims of gender violence (n = 39) with the objective of evaluating a blended psychotherapeutic intervention. The results show that blended therapies with mobile text messages combined with face-to-face group therapies significantly improved the health of these women. Mood states and the symptoms of depression were measured with a PHQ-9 personal health questionnaire and evolved positively. In the group of women (n = 39) the scores improved from an initial 13.5 (SD = 7.2, range 3-34) to 6.0 at the end of the period of messages (SD = 5.2, range 0-18), which was a significant difference (t (39) = 2.02; p = 0.000). Most of the women stated that the messages had helped them improve their mood (91.6%) and their general health (83.3%), which made them feel more connected to their social environment (80.6%). We observed that adherence to medication for each woman improved. With mixed therapies and mobile phones, social service professionals can incorporate technology into daily practices and offer personalized attention and daily counseling to victims of gender-based violence.

Abstract
Hoarding disorder is characterized by difficulty parting with possessions because of strong urges to save the items. Difficulty discarding often includes items others consider to be of little value and results in accumulation of a large number of possessions that clutter the home. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with exposure and response prevention and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor medications traditionally used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder are generally not efficacious for people with hoarding problems. A specialized CBT approach for hoarding has shown progress in reaching treatment goals and has been modified to be delivered in group, peer-facilitated, and virtual models. Research on hoarding remains in the early phases of development. Animal, attachment, and genetic models are expanding. Special populations, such as children, older adults, and people who do not voluntarily seek treatment need special consideration for intervention. Community-based efforts aimed at reducing public health and safety consequences of severe hoarding are needed.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with exposure and response prevention is the first-line treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders such as body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). We review here recent developments in CBT and related therapies in treating OCD and related disorders. RECENT FINDINGS Superiority of CBT over medications in treating OCD is being questioned by some recent meta-analyses, nonetheless CBT continues to be the mainstay of treatment. Web-based therapies have been shown to be beneficial in treating at least mild-to-moderately ill patients. Mindfulness-based CBT, intensive residential treatment and Bergen 4-day concentrated exposure are also proving to be useful in treating OCD. Large well designed studies have demonstrated the efficacy CBT over supportive therapy in treating BDD. Research on the efficacy of CBT in treating hoarding disorder is accumulating. SUMMARY Efficacy of web-based CBT has a potential public health importance in that CBT may now become accessible to all and benefit at least mild-to-moderately ill patients who form most of the clinically ill sample. Similarly, efficacy of Bergen 4-day concentrated exposure will have a huge public health implication if the findings can be replicated in other centers across the world.

Abstract
Psychological treatment for hoarding problems has historically been associated with poor outcomes. When treated as a subgroup of obsessive-compulsive disorder, individuals with hoarding beliefs were less likely to respond to treatment than individuals exhibiting other obsessive-compulsive beliefs and behaviours. When treated as its own disorder using cognitive behavioural therapy, individuals report approximately 25% improvement in symptoms on average. However, less than a third of people experience clinically meaningful change. Further, changes in functioning and quality of life are not routinely assessed. In this paper, we review the current conceptualization and treatment of hoarding problems to shed light on how treatment for hoarding disorder may be improved. Utilizing a harm reduction approach before administering treatment may be important to ensure the safety of individuals. Research should test whether treatment outcomes improve by including strategies that enhance a client's interpersonal functioning and ability to regulate emotions (i.e., based on dialectal behaviour therapy and mentalization-based treatments), especially while discarding and organizing belongings. We should also use modern learning theory to improve the delivery of exposure activities.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Researchers are increasingly investigating how technology could be used to improve the efficacy of treatment for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive (OC) spectrum disorders. A broad range of technologies, disorders and therapeutic processes have been examined in the literature. This review summarizes the evidence for using technology in clinical interventions for anxiety and OC-spectrum disorders and highlights research gaps that should be addressed to improve the evidence base. METHODS A scoping review was conducted based on systematic searches of three databases. Broadly, the criteria included interventions that had integrated technology into clinical contexts to enhance treatment for anxiety and OC-spectrum disorders. All records were double-screened by two reviewers, and data were extracted on the characteristics of interventions, symptom outcomes, and implementation factors. RESULTS Searches returned 2,475 studies, of which 117 were eligible for inclusion in this review. Although almost all studies reported pre-post-symptom reductions, only one quarter of the controlled studies demonstrated additive effect of technology-based interventions in between-group analyses. We noted a trend in underreporting implementation factors. CONCLUSIONS Technology-based interventions can improve the efficacy of treatment for anxiety and OC-spectrum disorders, but there are challenges to achieving this goal. Based on a review of the included studies, we provide four specific recommendations to improve the quality and likelihood of success of future research projects. PRACTITIONER POINTS Technology-based adjuvants are unlikely to improve the efficacy of treatment for anxiety or OC-spectrum disorders based on their novelty or convenience alone. A subset of studies gives hope that specific innovations can improve treatment when targeting a therapeutic process that has been problematic. Clinicians seeking to improve the efficacy of their treatment should first define client-specific therapeutic factors (e.g., homework compliance) that could be leveraged, then apply a specific innovation to address this factor.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chatbots have been used in the last decade to improve access to mental health care services. Perceptions and opinions of patients influence the adoption of chatbots for health care. Many studies have been conducted to assess the perceptions and opinions of patients about mental health chatbots. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no review of the evidence surrounding perceptions and opinions of patients about mental health chatbots. OBJECTIVE This study aims to conduct a scoping review of the perceptions and opinions of patients about chatbots for mental health. METHODS The scoping review was carried out in line with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) extension for scoping reviews guidelines. Studies were identified by searching 8 electronic databases (eg, MEDLINE and Embase) in addition to conducting backward and forward reference list checking of the included studies and relevant reviews. In total, 2 reviewers independently selected studies and extracted data from the included studies. Data were synthesized using thematic analysis. RESULTS Of 1072 citations retrieved, 37 unique studies were included in the review. The thematic analysis generated 10 themes from the findings of the studies: usefulness, ease of use, responsiveness, understandability, acceptability, attractiveness, trustworthiness, enjoyability, content, and comparisons. CONCLUSIONS The results demonstrated overall positive perceptions and opinions of patients about chatbots for mental health. Important issues to be addressed in the future are the linguistic capabilities of the chatbots: they have to be able to deal adequately with unexpected user input, provide high-quality responses, and have to show high variability in responses. To be useful for clinical practice, we have to find ways to harmonize chatbot content with individual treatment recommendations, that is, a personalization of chatbot conversations is required.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Emotion regulation has been identified as an important transdiagnostic factor relevant to the treatment of mental health disorders. Many empirically validated psychotherapeutic treatments incorporate elements targeting emotion regulation. Most of these treatment approaches are conceptualized as standard face-to-face treatments not as blended treatments, which include an internet-based intervention. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to examine, for the first time, a new internet-based intervention-REMOTION-that will be provided transdiagnostically, as an add-on to psychotherapy, to provide a blended treatment format. METHODS A total of 70 participants will be assigned (1:1 allocation ratio) to either the intervention group (REMOTION + psychotherapy) or the treatment-as-usual group that receives psychotherapy alone. To maximize external validity, a typical outpatient treatment sample of patients diagnosed with a range of disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, and adjustment disorder will be recruited from a university outpatient clinic. Patients with bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, or acute suicidality will be excluded from the study. The feasibility and potential effectiveness of the intervention will be examined by assessing data at baseline, 6 weeks (post), and 12 weeks (follow-up). The primary outcome is general symptom severity, assessed with the Brief Symptom Inventory. Secondary outcomes are emotion regulation, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, health related quality of life, well-being, and a variety of feasibility parameters. Quantitative data will be analyzed on an intention-to-treat basis. RESULTS Participant recruitment and data collection started in February 2020, and as of November 2020, are ongoing. Results for the study are expected in 2022. CONCLUSIONS This pilot randomized controlled trial will inform future studies using transdiagnostic blended treatment. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine immediate and long-term effectiveness of an adjunctive Internet intervention for depression in a large sample of patients undergoing routine psychotherapy. METHOD The current study evaluated a subgroup of patients from the Evident trial, a randomized investigation of a 12-week minimally guided Internet intervention (Deprexis) for the treatment of mild to moderate depression. 340 adults (mean age = 43.3 years; 71.7 % female) of the original sample received routine outpatient psychotherapy during the trial period, resulting in a standard psychotherapy group (n = 174) and an augmented therapy group (n = 166). Outcomes were assessed at baseline, post-treatment and 6-month follow-up. RESULTS Intention-to-treat analyses indicated that combined treatment led to a greater reduction in symptoms of depression (effect size d = 0.32; p = .002), improved therapeutic progress (d = 0.36; p = .003), and higher mental health-related quality of life (d = 0.34; p = .004). There was no intervention effect on physical health-related quality of life. The same pattern was found at 6-month follow-up, and adjunctive treatment also resulted in increased rates of clinical improvement. Treatment success was independent from therapeutic orientation of combined face-to-face therapy. CONCLUSION Results indicate that the adjunctive use of the investigated intervention can produce additional and lasting effects in routine outpatient psychotherapy for mild to moderate levels of depression. The study adds to the ongoing evidence on augmented effects of blended treatment. Future studies should investigate different types of blends in diverse populations by means of change-sensitive assessment strategies.

Abstract
PURPOSE There is a paucity of interventions for young adults who have parents with a mental health or substance use issue. The 6-week mi.spot (supportive, preventive, online, and targeted) professionally moderated, online intervention fills this gap. The purpose of this study was to present evidence of the acceptability, safety, and preliminary effectiveness of this intervention. METHODS In response to social media advertising, 31 young people aged 18-25 years participated in mi.spot. Intervention effectiveness was examined via a single-group pre, post, and 6-week follow-up study design, measuring primary changes in depression, anxiety, stress, and psychological well-being and secondary changes in coping, self-efficacy, social connectedness, attribution of responsibility, help-seeking, and mental health literacy. Acceptability and safety were determined by system use and participants' self-reports. RESULTS Over the 6 weeks of the intervention, 28 (90.3%) of 31 participants used one or more components of the mi.spot intervention. Significant improvements were reported in depression and stress from preintervention to 6-week postintervention. Trend improvements were evident in well-being, social connection, and coping. No change was reported in general help-seeking, social connectedness, mental health literacy, self-efficacy, or attribution. No safety violations were reported. Participants reported mi.spot to be safe and acceptable. CONCLUSIONS mi.spot appears to be safe and acceptable and shows promise as an effective online intervention to improve the mental health and well-being of young adults with parents with mental health and/or substance use issues.

Abstract
This article gives an overview of current research on internet interventions in the field of mental health. As a result of COVID-19, the implementation of internet interventions has been given a boost in the mental health sectors of several countries all over the world. With regard to these developments, a definition of internet interventions is provided and the current state of research on different formats, treatment contents, and settings of internet interventions is discussed. Current research on the therapeutic alliance in internet interventions and possible negative effects is also described. The review closes with lessons learned from the past decades of research on internet interventions along with possible implications and future directions.
