Abstract
INTRODUCTION With the premise that the demanding educational process and associated factors could influence the work-related quality of life (WRQoL) of dental students, this study aimed to investigate the influence of diverse sociodemographic and health-related factors, clinical education status, and sleep quality on the WRQoL of dental students. MATERIALS AND METHODS A three-part questionnaire was administered to a group of preclinical and clinical dental students studying in different classes. The first part of the questionnaire included various sociodemographic and health-related questions. In the second part, the multidimensional 23-item WRQoL scale, with established validity and reliability, was applied to evaluate the WRQoL of the students. The last part of the questionnaire included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, comprising 19 items. General linear models were created to predict subscale scores using sociodemographic and health-related characteristics, as well as univariate significant independent variables. RESULTS It was observed that the majority of the participants (78.2%) had poor sleep quality. Being clinical dental students had a significant and positive effect on the stress at work domain of WRQoL (p = .006), while it had a significant and negative effect on the home-work interface domain (p < .001). The decrease in sleep quality had a significant and negative effect on all domains of WRQoL (p < .05) except for the stress at work domain. CONCLUSIONS Clinical education status, regular smoking, and sleep quality significantly affect different domains of dental students' WRQoL. Changes in these factors should be considered in approaches to increasing students' WRQoL.

Abstract
Sleep deprivation is a critical issue that affects workers in numerous industries, including construction. It adversely affects workers and can lead to significant concerns regarding their health, safety, and overall job performance. Several studies have investigated the effects of sleep deprivation on safety and productivity. Although the impact of sleep deprivation on safety and productivity through cognitive impairment has been investigated, research on the association of sleep deprivation and contributing factors that lead to workplace hazards and injuries remains limited. To fill this gap in the literature, this study utilized machine learning algorithms to predict hazardous situations. Furthermore, this study demonstrates the applicability of machine learning algorithms, including support vector machine and random forest, by predicting sleep deprivation in construction workers based on responses from 240 construction workers, identifying seven primary indices as predictive factors. The findings indicate that the support vector machine algorithm produced superior sleep deprivation prediction outcomes during the validation process. The study findings offer significant benefits to stakeholders in the construction industry, particularly project and safety managers. By enabling the implementation of targeted interventions, these insights can help reduce accidents and improve workplace safety through the timely and accurate prediction of sleep deprivation.

Abstract
Subjective cognitive complaints (SCCs) are a crucial modifiable risk factor for dementia. There is increasing interest in the association between SCC and sleep disturbance; however, the effects of sleep disturbance on SCC development among community-dwelling elderly individuals in Japan remain unclear. We aimed to cross-sectionally investigate the association between SCC and sleep disturbance, with adjustment for multiple factors related to cognitive decline, among 241 community-dwelling elderly persons without cognitive impairment. The measures were SCCs (Kihon Checklist-Cognitive Function, KCL-CF), sleep disturbance (Japanese version of the Athens Insomnia Scale, AIS-J), general cognitive function (Mini-Mental State Examination), and depressive symptoms (five-item version of the Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS-5]). The following data were collected: sex, age, educational history, whether the participants had visited a medical institution for diseases (hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, heart disease), and the presence/absence of established risk factors (hearing loss, history of head injury, drinking habits, smoking habits, social isolation, and physical inactivity and activity). Based on the KCL-CF, 96 and 145 participants were considered to have and lack SCCs, respectively. On logistic regression analysis, the AIS-J score and smoking history were significantly associated with SCCs. Our findings suggest that sleep disturbance is associated with SCC development among community-dwelling elderly people in Japan. Evaluating and managing sleep disturbances can be important in preventing SCCs and dementia.

Abstract
Introduction The use of natural products for the treatment of sleep disturbances is increasing owing to the side effects and limitations of traditional sleep therapy. Moreover, recent studies have shown a significant correlation between sleep quality and gut microbiota composition. This study aimed to assess the impact of LTC-022, a commercially available dietary supplement containing Lactium and L-theanine, on enhancing sleep quality. Methods Forty participants experiencing sleep discomfort were enrolled in a double-blind randomized controlled trial, wherein they received LTC-022 or a placebo orally for 8 weeks. The effects of treatment on sleep quality were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Insomnia Severity Index. To comprehensively evaluate changes in sleep patterns, various parameters were evaluated, including the time in bed (TIB), total sleep time (TST), sleep onset latency (SOL), sleep efficiency (SE), wake after sleep onset (WASO) counts, and bedtime. These parameters were derived from daily sleep logs recorded over the 8-week study period, categorized into weekdays and weekends. Stool samples were analyzed for microbiome composition. The V4 region of bacterial 16S rRNA genes was amplified using specific primers (515F and 806R) and targeted for analysis. Microbial diversity, including operational taxonomic units, the Shannon and Chao indices, the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio, and the variety of bacterial taxa, was assessed. Results No significant differences were observed in sleep quality and insomnia scale characteristics between the two groups. In-depth analysis using sleep diaries showed that WASO counts after 8 weeks and bedtime after 4 weeks showed significant differences between the LTC-022 and control groups. In the LTC-022 group, significant differences were observed in the increase in TST, decrease in SOL, increase in SE, decrease in WASO counts, and earlier bedtime. Microbiome analysis revealed that the abundance of the genera Blautia and Ruminococcus increased in fecal samples from the LTC-022 group. Conclusion These results suggest that continuous LTC-022 intake has a beneficial effect on maintaining sleep duration and an appropriate bedtime. Additionally, changes in the gut microbiota may be linked to changes in sleep patterns resulting from the consumption of Lactium and L-theanine. Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients receiving home parenteral nutrition (HPN) frequently report disrupted sleep. However, there are often inconsistencies between objectively measured and questionnaire-derived sleep measures. We compared sleep measures estimated from wrist actigraphy and self-report in adults receiving HPN. METHODS In this secondary analysis, we pooled data from two sleep-related studies enrolling adults receiving habitual HPN. We compared measures from 7-day averages of wrist actigraphy against comparable responses to a sleep questionnaire. Sleep measures included bedtime, wake time, time in bed, total sleep time, and sleep onset latency (SOL). Spearman correlation coefficients, Bland-Altman plots, and linear regression models for each set of sleep measures provided estimates of agreement. RESULTS Participants (N = 35) had a mean age of 52 years, body mass index of 21.6 kg/m2 , and 77% identified as female. Correlation coefficients ranged from 0.35 to 0.90, were highest for wake time (r = 0.90) and bedtime (r = 0.74), and lowest for total sleep time (r = 0.35). Actigraphy overestimated self-reported bedtime, wake time, and total sleep time and underestimated self-reported time in bed and SOL. Regression coefficients indicated the highest calibration for bedtime and wake time and lower calibration for time in bed, total sleep time, and SOL. CONCLUSION We observed strong-to-moderate agreement between sleep measures derived from wrist actigraphy and self-report in adults receiving HPN. Weaker correlations for total sleep time and SOL may indicate low wrist actigraphy sensitivity. Low-quality sleep resulting from sleep disruptions may have also contributed to an underreporting of perceived sleep quantity and lower concordance.

Abstract
Background Particulate air pollution and residential greenness are associated with sleep quality in the general population; however, their influence on maternal sleep quality during pregnancy has not been assessed. Objective This cross-sectional study investigated the individual and interactive effects of exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution and residential greenness on sleep quality in pregnant women. Methods Pregnant women (n = 4933) enrolled in the Korean Children's Environmental Health Study with sleep quality information and residential address were included. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The average concentrations of PM (PM2.5 and PM10) during pregnancy were estimated through land use regression, and residential greenness in a 1000 m buffer area around participants' residences was estimated using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI1000-m). Modified Poisson regression models were used to estimate the associations between PM and NDVI and poor sleep quality (PSQI >5) after controlling for a range of covariates. A four-way mediation analysis was conducted to examine the mediating effects of PM. Results After adjusting for confounders, each 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 and PM10 exposure was associated with a higher risk of poor sleep quality (relative risk [RR]: 1.06; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01, 1.11; and RR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.06, 1.13, respectively), and each 0.1-unit increase in NDVI1000-m was associated with a lower risk of poor sleep quality (RR: 0.97; 95% CI: 0.95, 0.99). Mediation analysis showed that PM mediated approximately 37%-56% of the association between residential greenness and poor sleep quality. Conclusions This study identified a positive association between residential greenness and sleep quality. Furthermore, these associations are mediated by a reduction in exposure to particulate air pollution and highlight the link between green areas, air pollution control, and human health.

Abstract
Objective We investigated maternal and paternal sleep evolution from 3 to 36 months postpartum, their interrelations and predictors in the SEPAGES cohort. Methods Sleep information (night sleep duration [NSD], weekend daytime sleep duration [DSD] and subjective sleep loss [SSL]) was collected by self-administered questionnaires at 3, 18, 24 and 36 months postpartum in the SEPAGES French cohort that included 484 mothers and 410 fathers. Group-based multi-trajectory modelling was used to identify maternal, paternal and couple sleep multi-trajectory groups among 188 couples reporting sleep data for at least 2 time points. Multinomial logistic regression was used to assess associations between parental sleep multi-trajectories and early characteristics such as sociodemographic, chronotypes, child sex, birth seasonality or breastfeeding duration. Results We identified three maternal (M1-M3), paternal (F1-F3) and couple (C1-C3) sleep multi-trajectory groups with similar characteristics: a group with short NSD and high SSL prevalence (M1, F2, C2), a group with long NSD but medium SSL prevalence (M2, F3, C3) and a group with long NSD and low SSL prevalence (M3, F1, C1). Mothers with the shortest NSD (M1) were less likely to have a partner with long NSD (F2). As compared with long NSD and low SSL prevalence (C1), couples with short NSD and high SSL prevalence (C2) were less likely to have had a first child born in the autumn and fathers in C2 had a later chronotype. Conclusion We identified distinct sleep multi-trajectory groups for mothers, fathers and couples from 3- to 36-month postpartum. Sleep patterns within couples were homogeneous.

BACKGROUND The high prevalence of poor sleep quality (PSQ) in the general population leads to negative health outcomes. Since estimates of PSQ prevalence in the Chinese general population vary widely, this meta-analysis aimed to refine these estimates and to identify moderating factors. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was undertaken in both international (PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and EMBASE) and Chinese (Wanfang, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases) databases from inception to 23 November 2023. Studies were required to have used standard scales such as the Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The pooled prevalence of PSQ and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random-effects model. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses were performed to identify sources of heterogeneity. RESULTS In 32 studies with a combined 376,824 participants, the pooled prevalence of PSQ was 19.0% (95% CI 15.8-22.8%; range 6.6-43.6%). Across 22 studies that reported PSQI data, the pooled mean score was 4.32 (95%CI 3.82-4.81; SD = 0.502). The pooled mean sleep duration across 8 studies was 7.62 (95% CI 7.23-8.00; SD = 0.194) hours. Subgroup analyses showed that lower education (Q = 4.12, P = 0.042), living in less developed regions (Q = 60.28, P < 0.001), and lower PSQI cutoff values (Q = 9.80, P = 0.007) were significantly associated with PSQ. Meta-regression analyses showed that study quality was inversely associated with estimated PSQ prevalence (β = - 0.442, P = 0.004). LIMITATIONS Although measures such as subgroup and meta-regression analyses were performed, substantial heterogeneity remained. Information related to sleep quality, such as comorbid physical diseases or psychiatric disorders, substance use, occupational types, and employment status, were not reported in most studies. CONCLUSION One in five people in the general population of China may have PSQ and people with lower education or living in western regions may be more susceptible.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate self-reported sleep duration, sleep timing, sleep status and influencing factors in the Chinese population. METHODS This web-based cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2022, covering 31 provinces (91%) in China. 11,000 questionnaires were collected, of which 8970 were valid for analysis. Self-reported sleep habits, problems and quality were investigated. Good or fair sleep ratings, enough duration, regular, with no sleep disturbances and <30 min sleep latency was defined as a composite variable: 'Good sleep'. Factors influencing sleep patterns and 'Good sleep' were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS Most participants sleep less than 7 h per night (55.13%), usually go to bed at 10-12 pm (47.99%), wake up at 6-8 am (49.86%), and take less than 30 min to fall asleep (66.30%) with regular sleep schedule (76.01%). Only 12.36% have 'Good sleep'. In the past 3 months, 46.80% of the participants reported symptoms of insomnia, and 21.54% had snoring problems. Among the adults, the young, males, college students, freelancers, and those who resided in urban areas and pandemic-free areas slept later, and the northerners woke up earlier. The adults with low-moderate and moderate income and the minors at elementary and middle school slept earlier and woke up earlier. Mid-aged adults who often napped at noon were more likely to have 'Good sleep' than any other age group, and urban dwellers with the same habit were more likely to have 'Good sleep' than people dwelled in other regions. While people who slept late, woke up too early or too late, slept too little or too much, resided at GMT 7-8 area or pandemic area, had high income, or took up some occupations (entrepreneurs/individuals, professionals, manual and non-manual workers, housewives) were less likely to get a 'Good sleep'. CONCLUSIONS The national survey provided a sleep profile of the Chinese population. Both socio-economic status and personal sleep hygiene habits had an impact on 'Good sleep'.

Abstract
Poor sleep quality is prevalent among members of the military but rates of poor sleep quality vary between studies. This study examined the global prevalence of poor sleep quality in military personnel and veterans as well as possible moderators of prevalence differences between studies. PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and PsycINFO were systematically searched from their inception dates to September 1, 2022. Studies were included if they were conducted on military personnel and/or veterans and prevalence estimates of poor sleep quality could be generated from assessments with standardized tools. A random-effects model was used to calculate the pooled prevalence and its 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Fifty-nine studies (N = 28,100) were included for analysis with sample sizes ranging from 14 to 8481. Two studies were rated as "high quality" (3.39%), while 57 were rated as "moderate quality" (96.61%). The overall pooled prevalence of poor sleep quality in military personnel and veterans was 69.00% (95% CI: 62.33-75.30%); pooled rates were 57.79% (95% CI: 49.88-65.50%) and 82.88% (95% CI: 74.08-90.21%) for active duty personnel and veterans, respectively. Subgroup analyses indicated study region, study design, sampling method, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index cut-off values, and service type moderated prevalence of poor sleep quality. Meta-regression analyses indicated sample size, mean age, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) were associated with prevalence differences between studies. Poor sleep quality was more common in both active duty military personnel and veterans who were older and those who reported PTSD or depression. Regular monitoring of sleep quality and sleep hygiene should be promoted in this population. More relevant studies in middle- and low-income countries should also be conducted.

Abstract
Introduction Deteriorated sleep quality is a predisposing factor and symptom of affective disorders (AD). It is important to investigate factors driving the relationship between sleep and AD, such as personality traits. Previous research has shown that personality traits such as the Dark Triad personality traits (DT) narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy are associated with sleep problems and AD. The current study examined the moderating influence of the DT in the relationship between AD [versus healthy controls (HC)] and sleep quality. Methods Data of 657 individuals (267 HC, 390 AD; 483 female, 166 male, eight diverse; Mage = 34.87, SDage = 13.86) were collected in an online survey, which administered the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Short Dark Triad questionnaire. Results Moderation analyses controlling for age and gender revealed that Machiavellianism (b = -0.76, p < 0.05, R2 = 0.35) and psychopathy (b = -1.15, p < 0.05, R2 = 0.35), but not narcissism (b = -0.20, p = 0.620, R2 = 0.35), had a negative effect on sleep quality. Specifically, this effect is more pronounced in the HC group, but sleep quality is generally worse in AD. Conclusion Our findings indicate that Machiavellianism and psychopathy should be considered in the prevention and treatment of AD-associated sleep problems. Particularly, monitoring these traits could help to implement timely measures for the prevention of sleep problems, such as psychoeducation and sleep hygiene. The results highlight the role of personality in the aetiopathogenesis of AD and require further differentiation to examine the underlying pathways between the DT, sleep, and AD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disorders are a common syndrome and could affect the life quality of the older adults. AIMS This study aimed to investigate the association between nutritional status and sleep quality in the Chinese community-dwelling older adults. METHODS A total of 2,878 participants ≥ 65 years old from the Yiwu Elderly Cohort were included in the study. Nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short Form (MNA-SF). Participants were categorized as subjects with malnutrition, at risk of malnutrition or well-nourished based on their MNA-SF score. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to identify sleep disorders. PSQI score ≥ 6 was categorized as poor sleep quality. RESULTS Among the 2,878 participants (mean age 72.71 ± 5.79 years, 50.3% men), 31.5% (n = 906) were classified as having sleep disorders, and 25.5% were identified as malnutrition or at risk of malnutrition. We found a significantly relationship between nutritional status and sleep quality in older adults, and the results showed well-nourished decreased the risk of sleep disorders (OR = 0.32, 95% CI = 0.13, 0.75). And well-nourished status was significantly associated with less daytime dysfunction, adequate sleep duration, and good subjective sleep quality (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION There was a close association of nutritional status and sleep quality in older adults. We should pay more attention to the nutritional status of older people with sleep problems, as well as the sleep quality of older adults with malnutrition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep deprivation is known to be a risk factor for premenstrual syndrome and primary dysmenorrhea in adults. However, it has rarely been investigated in adolescents. The aim of this study was to investigate whether sleep pattern, duration, and quality independently affect premenstrual syndrome and primary dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. An additional purpose was to investigate the sleep status in Korean adolescent girls during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS A cross-sectional survey study was conducted in 519 high school girls aged 15 to 18 years in Gyeonggido, South Korea, in 2021 during the COVID-19 lockdown. Menstrual pain intensity and menstrual symptoms were assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS) and Cox menstrual symptom scale (CMSS), respectively. Premenstrual syndrome was assessed by the premenstrual symptoms screening tool (PSST). Sleep was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The known risk factors of dysmenorrhea, including menstrual and lifestyle characteristics and stress, were assessed as covariates. RESULTS During the pandemic, approximately 68% of girls slept 7 h or less, while about 60% reported poor sleep quality. Additionally, 64% of participants had a bedtime later after 1AM, and 34% woke up later after 8AM. Late bedtime significantly affected VAS (P = 0.05), CMSS severity and frequency (both P < 0.01), and PSST symptom (P < 0.01). Waking up late affected CMSS severity (P < 0.05), PSST symptom (P = 0.05), and PSST function (P < 0.05). However, the significance of these effects disappeared after controlling for covariates. Sleeping less than 5 h affected CMSS frequency (P < 0.05) and PSST symptoms (P < 0.001). After controlling for covariates, the significance of the effect on PSST symptom remained (P < 0.05). General sleep quality and PSQI components, including subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep disturbance, use of sleeping medication, and daytime dysfunction, significantly affected CMSS frequency and severity and PSST symptom after controlling for covariates (P < 0.05, P < 0.01, or P < 0.001). The multiple regression analysis revealed that among sleep characteristics, sleep quality was the most important risk factor of premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea. CONCLUSION Our study result heightens the importance of healthy sleep hygiene, especially sleep quality in the management of premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls.

Abstract
The effect of Pilates on dysmenorrhea has been little studied. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Pilates on menstrual pain and symptoms, premenstrual syndrome, and risk factors of dysmenorrhea. Thirty young women with primary dysmenorrhea were randomly assigned into a Pilates group (PG; n = 15) and a waitlist control group (CG; n = 15). The Pilates was performed twice a week for 12 weeks. Menstrual pain and symptoms were measured by visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Cox menstrual symptom scale (CMSS), respectively. Premenstrual syndrome was assessed using the premenstrual symptoms screening tool (PSST). Additionally, back flexibility, hip muscle strength, sleep duration and quality, perceived stress, state-trait anxiety, and depression were evaluated. The VAS, CMSS severity and frequency, and PSST symptoms and functional impairments decreased in the PG compared to the CG (p < 0.001 or p < 0.01) with large effect sizes. Back flexibility and the strength of hip flexors, hip extensors, and hip abductors significantly increased in the PG compared to the CG (all p < 0.01) with large effect sizes. Sleep quality (p < 0.01) and stress (p < 0.05) improved in the PG. Sleep duration, anxiety, and depression did not change in either group. In conclusion, the 12-week Pilates intervention ameliorates dysmenorrhea, partly mediated by improved physical function and sleep quality.

Abstract
Introduction Poor sleep quality can predict poor health and is associated with mortality risk. Many factors are associated with sleep quality such as gender, health, education, socioeconomic status, and stress. The objective of this study was to estimate the magnitude of poor sleep quality among visitors of Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCCs) in Al-Ahsa and to identify factors associated with poor sleep quality. Methods This is an analytical cross-sectional study. A multistage cluster sampling technique was used to recruit 461 visitors to PHCCs in Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. A structured questionnaire was administered through face-to-face interviews. The questionnaire includes demographics, a validated Arabic version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Arabic version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), the Arabic version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2), the Arabic version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-2 (GAD-2), the Arabic version of Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), and a translated Mobile Related Sleep Risk Factors (MRSRF). Univariate analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test for continuous data, the chi-square test (χ²) or Fishers's exact test (as appropriate) for categorical data, and logistic regression for multivariable analysis. A P-value of less than or equal to 0.05 was considered significant. Results The study included 433 participants, with 72.5% of them being poor sleepers (PSQI global score of over 5). The highest percentage of poor sleepers was found among those aged 18 - 28 years (81.7%), with no significant difference between genders (p = 0.676). The study's multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that poor sleep is associated with smoking four hours before bedtime (OR = 2.9, CI = 1.2 - 6.7), consuming caffeine (drinks or pills) three hours before sleep (OR = 2.3, CI = 1.23 - 4.12) or immediately before bedtime (OR = 3.2, CI = 1.02 - 9.9), using mobile phones right before bedtime (OR = 2.6, CI = 1.5 - 4.5), having anxiety (OR = 5.8, CI = 1.3 - 26.2), and depression symptoms (OR = 6.5, CI = 2.9 - 14.5), among other risk factors. Conclusion The prevalence of poor sleep quality in our sample was notably high at 72.5%. Many factors are strongly associated with poor sleep quality including experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Longitudinal studies are needed to explore this crucial health issue further. Healthcare providers in Al-Ahsa should pay particular attention while assessing patients who suffer from sleep disturbance by screening them for depression and anxiety and raising public awareness of the importance of good quality sleep and the factors that affect it.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alopecia areata (AA) is common non-scarring hair loss disease. Sleep distrubance has been regarded as a triggering or aggravating factor for AA. However, objective evaluation of sleep disturbance and its clinical effect on AA has not been clearly demonstrated. OBJECTIVE This study investigated objective sleep evaluation tool for AA patients and their clinical correlation. METHODS Patients presenting with new-onset AA or recurrences of pre-existing AA were included, and those who reported sleep disturbance in the preliminary survey were designated as the sleep disturbance group (SD group). Sleep quality was investigated for them using three self-administered questionnaires: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and Epworth Sleep Scale (ESS). Demographic information and clinical features of AA were analyzed according to sleep quality. RESULTS A total of 400 participants were enrolled, and 53 were categorized into the SD group. The incidence of stressful events was significantly higher in the SD group (54.7%) than in the non-SD group (25.1%) (p<0.001). Based on the PSQI, 77.3% of participants were objective poor sleepers (score of 5 or more), and they showed a significantly higher incidence of stressful events compared to good sleepers (p=0.019). The proportion of poor sleepers was significantly lower in patients with mild AA (S1) than in those with moderate to severe AA (S2~S5) (p=0.045). CONCLUSION This study demonstrated a positive correlation among stress, SD, and AA. The degree of SD was objectively represented by the PSQI score, showing different scores according to AA severity.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Transgender persons can use gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) to align their physical appearance with their identified gender. Many transgender persons report poor sleep, but the effects of GAHT on sleep are unknown. This study examined the effects of a 12 months of GAHT use on self-reported sleep quality and insomnia severity. METHODS A sample of 262 transgender men (assigned female at birth, started masculinizing hormone use) and 183 transgender women (assigned male at birth, started feminizing hormone use), completed self-report questionnaires on insomnia (range 0-28), sleep quality (range 0-21) and sleep onset latency, total sleep time and sleep efficiency before start of GAHT and after 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of GAHT. RESULTS Reported sleep quality showed no clinically significant changes after GAHT. Insomnia showed significant but small decreases after 3 and 9 months of GAHT in trans men (-1.11; 95%CI: -1.82; -0.40 and -0.97; 95%CI: -1.81; -0.13, respectively) but no changes in trans women. In trans men, reported sleep efficiency decreased by 2.8% (95%CI: -5.5%; -0.2%) after 12 months of GAHT. In trans women, reported sleep onset latency decreased by 9 min (95%CI: -15; -3) after 12 months of GAHT. CONCLUSIONS These findings show that 12 months of GAHT use did not result in clinically significant changes in insomnia or sleep quality. Reported sleep onset latency and reported sleep efficiency showed small to modest changes after 12 months of GAHT. Further studies should focus on underlying mechanisms by which GAHT could affect sleep quality.

Abstract
There has been a significant decline in worker productivity at construction sites globally owing to the increase in accidents and fatalities due to unsafe behavior among workers. Although many studies have explored the incidence of unsafe behaviors among construction workers, limited studies have attempted to evaluate the causal factors and to determine the root causes. An integrative interpretive structural modeling analysis of the interrelationships that exist between these causal factors established from relevant literature was conducted in this study to determine the root factors hence bridging this gap. Fifteen causal factors were identified through literature review, and the nature of interrelationships between them was determined using interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and a Cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC) analysis. Data was obtained from a purposively selected cohort of experts using semi-structured interviews. The emergent data was subsequently analyzed using the ISM and MICMAC analysis to ascertain the interrelationships between the causal factors. The results of the study showed that age, sleep quality, degree of interaction and workers' skillsets were the root causes of unsafe behavior among construction workers. Besides engendering the establishment of the root causes of unsafe behavior among construction workers, the results of this study will facilitate the prioritization of appropriate solutions for tackling the menace.

Abstract
Despite the growing awareness of poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in family caregivers of people with dementia (PWD), their relationship has rarely been explored with population-based samples. The current cross-sectional study aimed to determine the detrimental impact of informal dementia caregiving on HRQoL by using nationally representative population-based samples from the Korean Community Health Survey. Demographics, socioeconomic, and physical and mental health-related characteristics as well as HRQoL measured by the Korean version of the European Quality of Life Questionnaire Five Dimension (EQ-5D) were compared between 9563 family caregivers of PWD and 186,165 noncaregivers. Caregivers had lower index scores and higher frequency of some/extreme problems in all five dimensions of the EQ-5D compared with noncaregivers. Logistic regression adjusting for potential confounding factors found that caregivers had a higher frequency of poor HRQoL (lowest quartile of EQ-5D index) than noncaregivers (adjusted odds ratio [95% confidence interval] = 1.46 [1.39-1.53]). Compared to noncaregivers, caregivers had a higher frequency of some/extreme problems in each dimension of the EQ-5D: mobility (1.30 [1.21-1.40]), self-care (1.62 [1.46-1.80]), usual activity (1.39 [1.29-1.51]), pain/discomfort (1.37 [1.31-1.45]), and anxiety/depression (1.51 [1.42-1.61]). A one-to-one propensity score matching analysis confirmed that poor HRQoL was more frequently found in caregivers compared to noncaregivers (1.38 [1.29-1.48]). Our results indicated that family caregivers of PWD are significantly associated with overall poor HRQoL, underscoring the detrimental impact of informal dementia caregiving on HRQoL. Given the high frequency of poor HRQoL in dementia caregivers and the important recognition of its serious consequences on physical and mental health, clinicians should take into consideration efficient interventions to improve health and HRQoL for family caregivers of PWD.

Abstract
We evaluated the pre- and postoperative sleep quality of patients with newly diagnosed papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) who underwent thyroid surgery, and investigated the factors associated with persistent poor sleep quality. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), Epworth sleepiness scale, and Stanford sleepiness scale were used to estimate sleep quality and daytime sleepiness. Face-to-face surveys were conducted preoperatively, and 1, 4, and 10 months after thyroid surgery. The PSQI was administered during a telephone interview about after 5 years after surgery. Forty-six patients (mean age 47.3 ± 10.1 years) with PTC (11 males, 35 females) were included in this study. Twenty-one participants underwent lobectomy and 25 underwent total thyroidectomy. Preoperatively, 35 (76.1%) patients showed poor sleep quality. PSQI scores at postoperative 1, 4, and 10 months were significantly lower than preoperative scores (p < 0.001). Postoperative 5-year PSQI scores decreased significantly compared to the preoperative scores (p < 0.001). Patients newly diagnosed with PTC suffered from sleep disturbance before and after surgery for at least 10 months, recovering to a comparable rate of sleep disturbance with the general population by 5 years after surgery. Higher preoperative PSQI score was at risk for prolonged poor sleep quality in patients with PTC.

Abstract
Background Shift work that interferes with normal sleep patterns, is known to be a cause of sleep disturbance and has been studied through various occupational groups. However, it is not known which shift type is better for sleep health. Methods This study included 568 firefighters. Sleep quality was evaluated using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Sleep quality was categorized into 2 groups; good quality (≤ 5 points) and poor quality (≥ 6 points). Demographic variables, depression, anxiety, type of shift, and job were collected by self-reported questionnaires. The χ2 test, t-test, and multiple logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate the effect of shift type on the sleep quality of firefighters. Results Three hundred thirty-seven firefighters (59.3%) have poor sleep quality. Compared to day workers, the odds ratios (ORs) of poor sleep quality were 2.169 (95% confidence interval: 1.137-4.134) in 6-day cycle, 2.161 (1.150-4.062) in 9-day cycle, 1.805 (1.087-2.997) in 21-day cycle, and 1.485 (0.718-3.069) in 3-day cycle. The ORs of poor sleep quality were 1.697(1.021-2.823) in fire suppression and 2.325 (1.213-4.455) in emergency medical service compared to administration. Conclusions All shift work type except for the 3-day cycle was associated with poor sleep quality compared to day work.

Abstract
Approximately 21% of the workers in developing and developed countries are shift laborers. The laborer's work shifts can affect personal life and sleep standards, adversely impacting laborers and their manage. This study assesses the impact of various shift plans (seven evenings/7 days, fixed-night or fixed-day, and backup shifts) on shift laborers, considering four shift schedules. Most laborers were on rotational shifts, whereas others were on a permanent day, permanent night, and standby shifts. In a cross-sectional study, 45 development laborers from the National Construction firm were enlisted. Bio-wearable sensors were provided to monitor sleep. Participants were approached and asked to complete a survey bundle comprising the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS). Differences in sleep models were estimated using a Fitbit watch at various shift schedules. The average age of laborers who participated in the study was 37.5 years, and their average experience in the construction company was 6.5 years. The average total sleep time was 346 ± 46 min. The rotational shift laborers yielded the minimum total sleep time compared to the average PSQI and ESS scores of 7.66 ± 1.3 and 6.94 ± 3.4, respectively. Fifteen shift laborers (33.33%) were affected by a sleeping disorder in the present experimental investigation, and 30 participants had inadequate standards of sleep based on the PSQI scores. Poor sleep quality and duration among construction shift laborers decrease productivity at work. Additional studies are expected to assess sleep-related issues affecting construction shift laborers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The difference in epidemiological characteristics of breast cancer (BC) across countries is valuable for BC management and prevention. The study evaluated the up-to-date burden, trends, and risk factors of BC in China, Japan and South Korea during 1990-2019 and predicted the BC burden until 2034. METHODS Data on incident cases, deaths, disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) and age-standardized rate (ASR) of BC were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. Trend analysis and prediction until 2034 were conducted by estimated annual percentage change and a Bayesian age-period-cohort model, respectively. Besides, the attributable burden to BC risk factors was also estimated. RESULTS In 2019, the number of BC incident cases, deaths and DALYs in China were 375,484, 96,306 and 2,957,453, respectively. The ASR of incidence increased, while that of death and DALYs decreased for Chinese females and Japanese and South Korean males during 1990-2019. High body-mass-index (BMI) was the largest contributor to Chinese female BC deaths and DALYs, while alcohol use was the greatest risk factor for Japanese and South Korean as well as Chinese males. The incident cases and deaths were expected to continue increase during 2020-2034 (except for Japanese female incident cases). CONCLUSIONS China had the greatest burden of BC among the three countries. Incident cases and deaths of BC were projected to increase over the next 15 years in China, particularly among Chinese males. Effective prevention and management strategies are urgently necessary for BC control in China.

Abstract
Recently, there has been a rise in the number of spouses becoming primary caregivers to patients with dementia. This study identifies the mediating effects of depression and sleep quality on the relationship between perceived stress and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among primary caregiving spouses of patients with severe dementia through a secondary data analysis of the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Data from 229 primary caregiving spouses of patients with severe dementia were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman’s rank correlation or Pearson’s correlation analysis, and the lavaan R package, version 0.6-9. The association between perceived stress status (PSS) and the European Quality of Life Five Dimension (EQ-5D) index was highly significant. The direct effect of PSS observed in the model was nullified with both the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index as mediators, which implies that they mediate the effect of PSS on caregivers’ EQ-5D indexes. The mediation model accounted for 33.2% of the variance in the EQ-5D index of caregivers. The results suggest the need to develop an intervention to improve sleep quality and manage depression to mitigate a decline in HRQoL for these caregivers.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the association between blood glucose control and subjective cognitive decline in adult patients with diabetes. Using the 2018 data from the community health survey, we included 18,789 patients with diabetes aged ≥50 years who had complete responses recorded. Blood glucose control was the independent variable, and subjective cognitive decline was the dependent variable. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the association between blood glucose control and subjective cognitive decline. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that blood glucose control was inversely associated with subjective cognitive decline in patients with diabetes. Patients with uncontrolled blood glucose levels had higher odds of subjective cognitive decline than those with controlled blood glucose levels (odds ratio = 1.22; 95% confidence interval: 1.10, 1.34). Our findings suggest that patients with diabetes may demonstrate subjective cognitive decline if their blood glucose levels are not well-controlled.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES To date, few studies have assessed sleep problems among women residing in Subarctic regions. Therefore, the aim of this large-scale population-based study was to assess the prevalence of severe sleep problems and associated factors among Icelandic women, living at 63-66°N. METHODS Participants were 29 681 women (18-69 years old) who took part in the Icelandic Stress-And-Gene-Analysis study in 2018-2019. Background information, health-related behavior, and mental health symptoms were assessed with an online questionnaire. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess severe sleep problems during the past month. Adjusting for age, marital status, number of children, education, personal income, work schedule, region, and response period, we used modified Poisson log-linear models to obtain prevalence ratios (PRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS Overall, 24.2% of women reported severe sleep problems (PSQI >10). Women responding in the winter presented with an overall higher prevalence of severe sleep problems, compared to those responding in the summer (PR 1.21; 95% CI, 1.15 to 1.28). Severe sleep problems were more prevalent among young and late-midlife women, those who were single, had children, socio-economic challenges, worked shifts, and flexible hours. Furthermore, obesity, suboptimal health behaviors, excessive screen time, and mental health problems were associated with severe sleep problems. CONCLUSION Severe sleep problems are more common among women in Subarctic regions than elsewhere, particularly during winter. These findings motivate the development of preventive strategies and interventions for women in the Subarctic who suffer from sleep problems.

Abstract
Sleep characteristics vary between populations. Detrimental sleep habits have cognitive consequences leading to daytime functioning debilitation. Until now no study has been done to investigate sleep characteristics in Iran thoroughly. In this study, we aimed to evaluate Iranians’ sleep characteristics and their association with daytime functioning. We conducted a population-based study from January 2017 to May 2019 on people more than 18 years old who lived in 11 urban destricts and 3 rural areas of Tehran, Iran. We randomly selected the participants using a multistage random stratified clustered sampling method. We obtained the participants’ demographic and anthropometric characteristics and details of bedtime, sleep duration, sleep onset latency, wake-up time and sleep impact on daytime functioning. Logistic regression model was used to assess the relationship between sleep characteristics) and daytime functioning. In total, 1830 people with a mean age of 40.83 years participated in the study. The gender distribution of the participants was even, and 70.98% of them were married. After adjusting for age and sex, the following three factors had a significant impact on daytime functioning: bedtime, sleep onset latency, and sleep duration. (OR = 1.12, P < 0.038, OR = 1.01, P < 0.011, and OR = 0.99, P = 0.01, respectively). We also found that longer sleep onset latency (P = 0.004) and shorter sleep durations (P = 0.029) significantly interfere with daytime functioning. Iranians’ sleep characteristics, especially their sleep duration and sleep onset latency, are associated with their daytime function. Interventions on people’s sleep hygiene are warranted to promote healthier sleep behaviors among Iranians, considering the high impact of current sleep characteristics on their daily lives.

Abstract
Introduction/Aim: The use of macronutrient and micronutrient foods is associated with the duration of sleep. This study aimed to determine the effect of zinc supplements on the sleep quality of older adults. Methods: The current parallel randomized clinical trial study was performed using a convenience sampling method. One hundred and fifty older adults who met the inclusion criteria were assigned to intervention and control group. The participants in the intervention group received a daily dose of 30 mg zinc supplementation pill for 70 days and the control group did not receive any supplement. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Serum zinc level in both groups was measured through the auto-analysis method. The questionnaire was completed and the serum level of zinc was measured twice, before the intervention and 70 days after the intervention. Results: Both groups were homogeneous in terms of demographic variables, sleep quality, and serum zinc level before the intervention. Of all, 73.3% of older adults in the intervention group and 74.7% of older adults in the control group had poor sleep quality. Sleep quality in the intervention group, as compared with the control group, significantly improved after the intervention. Furthermore, serum zinc levels in older adults in the intervention group, as compared with the control group, significantly increased after the intervention. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is recommended to utilize zinc supplementation as a new therapeutic approach for improving sleep quality in older adults.

Background and Objective It is widely known that poor sleep quality is closely related to depression, but there are limited studies on the mediating factors.Methods Based on national health survey data, the relationship between sleep quality and depressive symptoms was explored, and structural equations were drawn to determine whether emotional regulation activities, such as regular breakfast, regular exercise, smoking, and drinking contribute to poor sleep quality-induced depression.Results There was a significant correlation between poor sleep quality and depressive symptoms. Regular breakfast tended to mediate between poor sleep quality and depression the most, followed by smoking, drinking, and regular exercise.Conclusions Several emotional regulation activities including regular breakfast, can play a protective role in the process leading to poor sleep quality-induced depression. A follow-up study is required to examine the clinical aspect of how regular breakfast can prevent the process of poor sleep quality to depression.

Abstract
Background Sleep problems increase the risk of premature illness and death. We evaluated the association between sedentary time and sleep quality among South Korean adults. Methods The data of adults (aged ≥ 19 years) from the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey were analyzed. Sedentary time, which included hours spent sitting or lying down daily, was categorized into four standardized groups. Poor sleep quality was defined using the global cutoff point (> 5 points) of the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the association between sedentary time (≤ 3.9, 4.0–5.9, 6.0–7.9, and ≥ 8 hours /day) and sleep quality, by sex. Results Of the 224,118 participants, 35,784/100,454 men (35.6%) and 58,271/123,664 women (47.1%) had poor sleep quality. Compared with ≤ 3.9 h/day, sedentary times 4.0–5.9, 6.0–7.9, and ≥ 8 h/day were associated with worse sleep quality among men (odds ratio [OR]: 1.12, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.08–1.16; OR: 1.19, 95% CI: 1.14–1.25; OR: 1.30, 95% CI: 1.25–1.34, respectively) and women (OR: 1.06, 95% CI: 1.03–1.10; OR: 1.12, 95% CI: 1.08–1.16; OR: 1.22, 95% CI: 1.18–1.26, respectively). In subgroup analyses of sleep quality, subjective sleep quality, latency, disturbance, use of sleeping medication, and daytime dysfunction showed a strong dose-response relationship with increasing sedentary time in both sexes. Conclusions Regardless of sex, the longer the sedentary time, the stronger the association with poor sleep quality. Nationwide efforts are required to recommend standards for sedentary time and develop evidenced-based healthy behavior guidelines.

Abstract
Previous studies have documented cognitive impairments, psychological stress, and depressive symptoms in family caregivers of people with dementia (PWD), which could be attributed to their sleep disturbances. Notwithstanding the increasing recognition of poor sleep quality and sleep disturbances in family caregivers of PWD, their association has not been tested yet using population-representative samples. We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study using population-based data from the 2018 Korean Community Health Survey. Sociodemographic, mental health-related, and physical health-related variables as well as sleep quality evaluated by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were compared between 2537 cohabitating caregivers of PWD, 8864 noncohabitating caregivers of PWD, and 190,278 non-caregivers. Two sets of multivariable logistic regressions were conducted to examine the associations between dementia caregiving and poor sleep quality in cohabitating and noncohabitating caregivers versus noncaregivers. Both cohabitating and noncohabitating caregivers had higher global PSQI scores and higher prevalence of poor sleep quality (PSQI score > 5) than did noncaregivers. Multivariable logistic regressions adjusted for potential confounders revealed that cohabitating caregivers (odds ratio (OR) 1.26, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.15-1.38) and noncohabitating caregivers (OR 1.15, CI 1.10-1.21) were significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Our results showed that both cohabitating and noncohabitating caregivers of PWD experienced overall poorer sleep quality compared to noncaregivers, indicating the deleterious effect of dementia caregiving on sleep quality, regardless of living arrangements. Given the high prevalence of poor sleep quality in family caregivers of PWD and the increasing awareness of the serious health consequences of poor-quality sleep, physicians should consider active sleep interventions to promote health and wellbeing not only for the dementia patients but also for family caregivers.

Abstract
Purpose There are few large studies evaluating the association between sleep quality and the risk of falls. We aimed to determine the independent effect of poor sleep quality on an increased risk of falls using a large-sample dataset. Methods We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study using population-based data from the 2018 Korean Community Health Survey on 201,700 participants. Sociodemographic, mental health-related, and physical health-related variables as well as sleep quality evaluated by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were compared between 2499 fallers who have experienced at least one fall during the past 12 months and 199,201 non-fallers. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify sleep quality variables significantly associated with an increased risk of falls. Results Fallers had poorer sleep quality (PSQI score >5) and higher scores for global PSQI and individual PSQI components than did non-fallers (all p < 0.001). Multivariable logistic regression adjusted for potential confounders including socioeconomic, physical health-related, and mental health-related variables showed that an increased risk of falls was associated with poor sleep quality (odds ratio [OR] 1.30, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.19–1.42). Subgroup analyses by age revealed that poor sleep quality was significantly associated with an increased risk of falls in all three adult age groups. Multivariable logistic regression using the seven PSQI components revealed that an increased risk of falls was associated with short sleep duration (OR 1.14, CI 1.09–1.20), increased sleep disturbances (OR 1.30, CI 1.16–1.46), and increased daytime dysfunctions (OR 1.21, CI 1.08–1.13). Conclusion Poor sleep quality caused by short sleep duration may be a principal risk factor of falls in adult populations. Increased sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunctions may also contribute to an increased risk of falls. Our results have clinical and public health perspectives that increasing sleep duration and reducing daytime dysfunctions and sleep disturbances could mitigate unintentional falls.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Subjective reports of patients with insomnia often show a discrepancy with their objective assessments of sleep. We aimed to assess subjective-objective sleep discrepancy in subjects with insomnia disorder as well as the psychological factors associated with the discrepancy. METHODS This study is a secondary analysis of the baseline data of a randomized controlled study on 110 adults aged 18 years to 59 years with insomnia disorder. Subjective reports on sleep and the objective measures acquired by an overnight polysomnography were used to measure the sleep discrepancy. Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale (SAPS), Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), beck anxiety inventory (BAI), and Global Assessment of Recent Stress (GARS) were used to evaluate the psychological factors associated with the sleep discrepancy. RESULTS Mean total sleep time (TST) discrepancy of the participants was -81.65±97.41 minutes. Multivariable logistic regression analyses revealed that age (adjusted OR=1.07, 95% CI=1.01-1.13, p=0.027), years of education (adjusted OR=0.69, 95% CI=0.48-0.91, p=0.017), and smartphone addiction proneness (adjusted OR=1.14, 95% CI=1.04-1.27, p=0.008) were independent predictors of TST misperception. Mean sleep onset latency (SOL) discrepancy of the participants was 41.28±45.01 minutes. Only anxiety was an independent predictor of SOL misperception (adjusted OR=1.16, 95% CI=1.05-1.31, p=0.006). CONCLUSION The present study provides empirical evidence to increase our understanding of the various factors that are associated with subjective-objective sleep discrepancy. Screening insomnia patients with smartphone addiction proneness may help predict the potential discrepancy between the patients' subjective reports and objective measures of sleep duration.

Abstract
Sleep in women and men have been studied in several studies with higher prevalence of sleep complaints in women compared with men. Several factors can affect sleep and could be argued to contribute to sex and gender differences in general sleep. There are no differences in guidelines when measuring sleep in women but several sleep assessment tools have been validated or compared between sexes. Because there is still a lack of knowledge on sleep measurements in women, the present review aimed to produce an overview of the current knowledge of objective and subjective sleep measurements in women.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of this study was to identify the association between cohabitation status and sleep quality in family members of people with dementia (PwDs). Methods Data of 190 365 participants aged ≥19 years from the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey were analyzed. Participants were categorized according to their cohabitation status with PwDs. Multiple logistic regression and ordinal logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the relationship between the cohabitation status of PwDs’ relatives and sleep quality measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and PSQI subscales. Results Compared to participants without PwDs in their families, both cohabitation and non-cohabitation with PwDs were associated with poor sleep quality (cohabitation, male: odds ratio [OR],1.28; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.08 to 1.52; female: OR, 1.40; 95% CI, 1.20 to 1.64; non-cohabitation, male: OR, 1.14; 95% CI, 1.05 to 1.24; female: OR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.14 to 1.33). In a subgroup analysis, non-cohabiting family members showed the highest odds of experiencing poor sleep quality when the PwD lived alone (male: OR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.14 to 1.91; female: OR, 1.58; 95% CI, 1.24 to 2.01). Cohabiting male and female participants had higher odds of poor subjective sleep quality and use of sleeping medications than non-cohabiting male and female participants, respectively. Conclusions The residence of PwDs and cohabitation status may contribute to poor sleep quality among PwDs’ family members. The circumstances faced by cohabiting and non-cohabiting family members should be considered when evaluating sleep quality in family members of PwDs, and appropriate interventions may be needed to improve sleep quality in both cohabiting and non-cohabiting family members.

Abstract
This study examines gender differences in sleep problems among older adults in India, China, Ghana, Mexico, Russia, and South Africa. We used data on 33,929 individuals (50+ years) from the WHO-SAGE. Results showed significant gender differences in the prevalence of sleep problems with the largest difference in Russia followed by India. Regression results showed higher odds of sleep problems among women in India, China, Russia, and South Africa. Age, low back pain, depression, and poor self-rated health were significantly associated with sleep problems. This research confirms significant gender differences in sleep problems among the older population in middle-income countries.

Abstract
Sleep is being emphasized as a factor that improves mental health and quality of life. Here, we aimed to investigate the association between the quality and duration of sleep and subjective cognitive decline in the Korean population. We used the 2018 Korean Community Health Survey data that are nationwide representative data collected by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sleep quality was measured using the Korean version of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The study population comprised 206,719 individuals aged 19 years and over. We used multiple logistic regression for the analysis. Individuals of both sexes with poor sleep quality were more likely to experience subjective cognitive decline compared with the reference group (good sleep quality) (men, odds ratio (OR) = 1.97 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.86-2.09]; women, OR = 1.75 [95% CI 1.67-1.84]). U-shape associations were found between sleep duration and subjective cognitive decline. Additionally, the presence of depressive symptom or stress and health-related behaviors, including smoking, drinking, and not walking, were high-risk factors for subjective cognitive decline. Our results indicate that poor sleep quality might contribute to subjective cognitive decline in the Korean population. We suggest the implementation of intervention measures for poor sleep behaviors to prevent cognitive decline.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Poor sleep quality predicts poor quality of life, poor self-rated health, and chronic diseases and mental disorders among older adults. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is the most widely used self-report measure of sleep quality in older adults. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess internal reliability, face validity, content validity and internal consistency of the Slovenian version of the PSQI (PSQI-SLO) for sleep quality in older adults. METHODS A cross-sectional study was used to evaluate content and face validity as well as reliability (ɑ, ω and item-total correlations). Residents of 13 nursing homes and community-dwelling older adults from all regions of Slovenia were sampled. A total of 831 participants aged 65 years and older participated in the study between March and August 2019. RESULTS All items were successfully translated to Slovenian. A minor cultural adaptation was made to improve the clarity of the meaning of all items. None of the items had an item content validity index (I-CVI) score lower than 0.50. Kappa indices were excellent for half of the items and good for the remainder. Internal consistency agreed with prior research (ɑ = 0.74). Intraclass correlation coefficient for global PSQI-SLO was 0.62 (p < 0.001). The total score of PSQI-SLO (8.09 ± 3.64 (95%, CI = 7.85-8.34)) was expected and comparable. Fifty-eight and four tenths' per cent (95%, CI = 55%-62%) had at least one chronic disease and 40% (95%, CI = 37%-42%) lived in a nursing home. CONCLUSIONS PSQI-SLO showed adequate internal consistency and test-retest reliability, and adequate construct and criterion validity. The instrument can be important in assessing older adults' subjective sleep quality in nursing homes, home environment and clinical settings.

Abstract
Evidence has shown that stressful life events are associated with sleep quality, yet studies on employees are scarce. In the present study, we explored the association between stressful life events and sleep quality in Chinese governmental employees. The cross-sectional data on 10,994 Chinese governmental employees aged 20-60 years were derived from a cohort study on chronic diseases of governmental employees in Hunan Province, China. Logistic regression models were used to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (OR) and the 95% confidence interval (CI). Of the participants, 3517 (32.0%) reported poor sleep quality in the past month. Participants who experienced more than two life events in the past year were associated with 3 times (OR: 3.681, 95%CI:3.287-4.123) greater likelihood of poor sleep quality. Negative life events, but not positive life events, were significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Regarding the types of events, economic-related life events were associated with poor sleep quality only in employees aged 20-35 years. Regarding the specific life events, work stress, job dissatisfaction, pregnancy or wife pregnancy,quality in Chinese governmental employees. discord with spouse's parents, separation from spouse due to work, bad relationship between spouse, unsatisfied sex life, misunderstood, blamed, false accusation or argument, and lifestyle changes were significantly associated with poor sleep quality. When stratified by sex, age and occupational position, the association of specific events and sleep quality were different. The present study showed that cumulative life events, negative life events and several specific events were significantly associated with poor sleep quality on Chinese governmental employees.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine whether perceived environmental pollution is associated with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) or SCD-related functional difficulties. We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from a nationwide sample of 191,054 individuals aged ≥19 years from the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey. Perceived air, water, soil, noise, and green space pollution was assessed. To investigate the dose-response effect of the amount of perceived environmental pollution, we determined whether an increasing number of types of perceived environmental pollution also increased the odds of having SCD or SCD-related functional difficulties. Among the 191,054 individuals, the prevalence of SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties was 17.7% (N = 33,853) and 2.2% (N = 4139), respectively. Perception of air, soil, or noise pollution was significantly associated with SCD. However, the perception of any type of environmental pollution was not significantly associated with SCD-related functional difficulties. With regard to a dose-response effect, individuals perceiving a greater number of types of environmental pollution had significantly higher odds of SCD or SCD-related functional difficulties. This association was notably more evident in the younger age group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND Perceived environmental pollution may play a significant role in understanding environmentally induced health-related symptoms. This study aimed to determine whether perceived environmental pollution is associated with poor sleep quality. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from a nationwide sample of 162,797 individuals aged ≥19 years from the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was used for assessing sleep quality. Five types of perceived environmental pollutants involving air, water, soil, noise, and green space were assessed. We investigate the association between perceived environmental pollution and poor sleep quality. We also investigated whether an increasing number of perceived environmental pollutants magnified the odds of poor sleep quality. RESULTS The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 42.7% (n = 69,554), and 15.6%, 10.1%, 11.9%, 23.0%, and 11.5% reported perceived environmental pollution concerning air, water, soil, noise, and green space, respectively. A perception of air, soil, or noise pollution was significantly associated with poor sleep quality. In addition, those perceiving a greater number of environmental pollutants had significantly higher odds of poor sleep quality. Notably, this association was magnified in individuals living in rural areas. CONCLUSIONS Perceived environmental pollution was significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Our results suggest that a more comprehensive exposure to environmental pollution may not only have a worse effect on health outcomes including sleep quality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine whether chewing difficulty is associated with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and related functional difficulties by body mass index. DESIGN A population-based cross-sectional study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS A nationwide sample of 54,004 individuals aged ≥65 years from the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey. MEASUREMENTS SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties were measured using the cognitive decline module of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Chewing difficulty was assessed based on a self-report questionnaire from an oral health-related behaviors interview survey. BMI was calculated from objective values by measuring height and weight through a physical meter. RESULTS Among the 54,004 individuals, the prevalence of SCD in underweight, overweight, and obesity group was 33.6% (n = 806), 30.3% (n = 9,691), and 28.7% (n=5,632) respectively. Chewing difficulty was associated with SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties. This association was more pronounced in underweight (BMI: <18.5 kg/m2) people [underweight: (odds ratio [OR] = 1.68, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.48-1.92); normal weight: OR = 1.13, 95% CI 1.04-1.22; obese: OR = 1.15, 95% CI 1.05-1.27]. Similar trends were demonstrated for SCD-related functional difficulties (underweight: OR = 1.53, 95% CI 1.17-2.01; normal weight: OR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.15-1.63; obese: OR = 1.50, 95% CI 1.22-1.86). CONCLUSIONS Chewing difficulty was associated with SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties in older people. Our results suggest that underweight status may play roles in the associations between chewing difficulty and SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Although women commonly report deterioration of sleep quality postpartum, this relationship has been less studied in East Asian countries. This study investigated the association between recent experience of childbirth and sleep quality in South Korean women and additionally examined how healthy practice behavior interplays in the stated relationship. METHODS Data from the 2018 Community Health Survey were used. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). Women who responded to have given birth in the past year were categorized as having a recent experience of childbirth. The general characteristics of the study population were investigated using chi-square test. The association between the dependent and independent variables was analyzed using multivariate logistic regression analysis. RESULTS Of a total of 41,708 study participants, 16,877 (40.5%) individuals reported poor sleep quality. Poor sleep quality was more common in women with a recent experience of childbirth (48.4%) than those without (40.0%). Compared to individuals without a recent experience of childbirth, those with such an experience were more likely to show poor sleep quality (OR 1.50, 95% CI 1.34-1.68). Such differences were reduced in individuals with a healthy lifestyle. CONCLUSION Recent experience of childbirth was associated with higher likelihoods of poor sleep quality in women. The degree of risks found was reduced in individuals practicing a healthy lifestyle habit. The findings infer the need to monitor and address sleep-related disturbances commonly reported among postpartum women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE : Fear, anxiety, depression and sleep deprivation are common mental health disorders in COVID-19 disease. We aimed to analyse the risk for healthcare providers during COVID-19 pandemic in a university hospital. METHODS Anesthesiologists, nurses and nurse anesthetists were invited to fill out the survey. The survey was consist of questions from ''The Fear of COVID-19 Scale'', ''Patient Health Questionnaire'' and ''Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index'' (PSQI). Each question was worth a point. RESULTS The data of 208 participants were analyzed. Mean age was 29 ± 7.748 years, 72.1% were male, 67.3% were nurses, 62% were working in intensive care units, 38% were in hospital wards, 62% of all participants were living alone. Moderate depression was the most frequently detected outcome (n = 90, 43.3%). Mean The Fear of COVID-19 Scale for all participants was 18.56 ± 7.731. The mean PSQI of patients was 6.18 ± 4.356 with a 45.7% rate of poor sleep quality. PSQI was found significantly higher in nurses (7.1 ± 4.7, p = 0.000). Nurses were the group with the highest deterioration in sleep quality (53.6%, p = 0.003). The rate of moderate-to-severe depressive symptoms was significantly higher in intensive care unit nurses and physicians (p = 0.018). PSQI score was found significantly higher in intensive care unit nurses and physicians than hospital ward co-workers (7.02 ± 4.59 vs. 4.81 ± 3.57 respectively, p = 0.001). A significant positive correlation was observed between PSQI and The Fear of COVID-19 Scale total score in all patients (p < 0.005). CONCLUSION Depression, anxiety, fear and sleep disorders may occur in healthcare workers during COVID-19 outbreak. Intensive care unit nurses were at highest risk.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify the associations between sleep quality, sleep duration and nutritional status in older adults. METHODS Data from a total of 6792 community-dwellings adults aged 50 and over from the baseline of the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study were analyzed. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). PSQI scores >5 were categorized as poor sleep quality. Duration of sleep was classified as <6 h, 6-7 h, 7-8 h, 8-9 h and ≥9 h. The Mini Nutritional Assessment Short Form (MNA-SF) was used to assess nutritional status and a score <12 was identified as indicating a risk of malnutrition. Logistic regression models were used to explore the associations. RESULTS Of 6792 participants (mean age 62.4 ± 8.3 years, 62.5 % women), 1831 (27.0 %) were at risk of malnutrition. The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 47.1 %. In the logistic regression model adjusted for potential confounders, poor sleep quality was significantly associated with a risk of malnutrition (OR = 1.62, 95 %CI = 1.44, 1.82). Sleep durations of less than 6 h and of more than 9 h were shown to increase the odds of malnutrition risk (OR = 1.42, 95 %CI = 1.16, 1.73 and OR = 1.24, 95 %CI = 1.05, 1.47, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Sleep disorders were significantly associated with malnutrition risk among older adults. Our results highlight the importance of good sleep quality and enough sleep in order to maintain good nutritional status in older adults.
