Abstract
Constructing and validating two nomograms to predict the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) correlated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection was the main goal of this study. We constructed predictive models for OS and CSS incidence in HPV infection-associated CSCC using information from 2238 patients in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and screened the variables by LASSO regression, Cox univariate regression, and Cox multifactorial regression models, which were calibrated and validated by internal and external cohorts. Finally, all patients were categorized into intermediate-risk, low-risk, and high-risk groups based on the optimal threshold calculated from the total score. Multivariate analysis showed that HPV infection status, marital status, tumor metastatic stage, surgical status, radiotherapy status, lymph node biopsy, local lymph node dissection, primary tumor status, and bone metastasis were risk factors for OS and CSS. The C index, the time-dependent area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve, and the column-line diagrams of the calibration plot were among the excellent-performance metrics that were effectively displayed. Moreover, the decision curve analysis of the two nomograms consistently revealed their favorable net benefits spanning 1, 2, and 3 years. In addition, the survival curves indicate that each of the two risk classification systems clearly differentiates high, medium, and low risk groups. These meticulously crafted nomograms stand poised to serve as indispensable instruments in clinical practice, empowering clinicians to adeptly communicate with patients regarding their prognostic outlook over the forthcoming 1, 2, and 3 years.

Abstract
Anal HPV infection is particularly prevalent among men who have sex with men (MSM). The purpose of this study was to understand the status and influencing factors of HPV infection in MSM in Urumqi, Xinjiang, in order to provide suggestions for policy formulation. A prospective cohort study was conducted among HIV-negative MSM in Urumqi Xinjiang between April 2016 and June 2023. 824 MSM were recruited. Data were collected anal swab results from self-administered questionnaires and laboratory tests. A Cox regression model was employed to analyze factors associated with HPV infection. The prevalence rates of high-risk HPV and low-risk HPV were 37.99% and 25.97%. Receptive anal intercourse is a well-established risk factor for both incident and persistent HPV infections among MSM. For new high-risk HPV infections, the adjusted hazard ratio is 1.55 (95% CI: 1.28-1.89), and for persistent high-risk HPV infections, the aHR is 1.95 (95% CI: 1.48-2.57). Similarly, for low-risk HPV, receptive anal intercourse increases the risk of incidence (aHR = 1.34, 95% CI: 1.07-1.67) and persistent infection (aHR = 1.64, 95% CI: 1.18-2.29). Seeking sexual partners in bathhouses raised the risk of low-risk HPV infections (aHR = 1.36, 95% CI: 1.05-1.76). Young MSM may face a higher risk of HPV infection. Implementing targeted HPV vaccination catch-up programs for the MSM population in Urumqi could offer significant societal benefits.

Abstract
The epidemiological and clinical aspects of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection in women have been extensively studied. However, there is a lack of information regarding HPV characteristics in males. In this study, we conducted a retrospective and observational study of 3737 consecutive male individuals attending outpatient clinics of Guangdong Women and Children Hospital from 2012 to 2023 in Guangzhou, South China, to determine the age- and genotype-specific prevalence of HPV in men. The results showed the overall prevalence of HPV among men was 42.15% (1575/3737), with variations ranging from 29.55% to 81.31% across distinct diagnostic populations. Low-risk HPV6 (15.47%), HPV11 (8.94%), and high-risk HPV52 (5.51%) were the most common types. The annual HPV prevalence decreased significantly (Z = -3.882, p < .001), ranging from 31.44% to 52.90%. 28.77% (1075/3737) of men manifested infection with a singular HPV type, predominantly identified as a low-risk type. The age-specific distribution of HPV infections revealed distinctive peaks in the < 25 y age group (47.60%, 208/437) and the 40-44 y age group (44.51%, 154/346). Notably, the positive rate of Chlamydia trachomatis was significantly higher among HPV-positive individuals in comparison to HPV-negatives (16.14% vs. 11.25%, p < .05). Our findings reveal a substantial prevalence of HPV infection among outpatient men in Guangzhou, South China. It is recommended to consider the inclusion of HPV vaccination for adolescent males in national immunization schedules, once an adequate supply of vaccines is accessible.

Abstract
Since its Fast-Track approval by the Federal Drug Administration, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has been marked by controversies. Unconfirmed reports of adverse events in both Japan and Denmark led to suspensions of national vaccination programs, which setback the fight against cervical cancer and associated mortality and morbidity. Despite follow-up studies of vaccine adverse reports, additional randomized control trials, and review reports from both the World Health Organization and the European Commission, there is still a great deal of hesitancy around the vaccine. While all three version of the HPV vaccine have been shown to be efficacious and safe, additional ethical dilemmas deserve to be considered as well.

Abstract
Background In this study, we characterized the HPV genotype distribution in a population of 489 adults already positive for HPV DNA. The study population was divided into two groups: 244 HIV-positive (HIV+) men who have sex with men (MSM) undergoing routine anal screening for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and 245 women undergoing routine cervical cancer screening. Acknowledging the fact that women and MSM represent two independent circles of sexual practices, which are-largely-exclusive of each other, we were interested in determining if particular genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV) disproportionately predominate in one of these circles compared to the other. Results HIV+ MSM are significantly more likely to be infected with multiple genotypes at a time, with an odds ratio (OR) of 9.30 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.91-22.1) and a p-value of <0.001. In addition, multivariable-adjusted logistic regression analysis showed that anal swab samples were significantly more likely to harbor lrHPV infections, with an OR of 6.67 (95% CI: 2.42-18.4) and a p-value of <0.001, in particular, HPV 6, with an OR of 8.92 (95% CI: 3.84-20.7) compared to cervical samples of screening women. Conclusion Given the significant impact of recurrent anogenital warts (AGWs) on quality of life and the accompanying predisposition to invasive anal cancer, our data underscore the critical need for HPV vaccination. This includes expanding vaccination eligibility to include both boys and adults within high-risk populations.

Abstract
Purpose To determine how beliefs about various disease outcomes caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection differ among young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (YGBMSM). Methods From 2019 to 2021, we recruited cisgender YGBMSM ages 18-25 in the United States who were unvaccinated against HPV (n = 1,227). Survey items examined three disease outcomes (genital warts, anal cancer, and oropharyngeal cancer) for each of three different beliefs (perceived vulnerability, perceived severity, and worry). Results Participants reported lower perceived vulnerability to and worry about anal cancer and oropharyngeal cancer compared to genital warts (all p < 0.001). Participants also reported greater perceived severity of anal cancer and oropharyngeal cancer compared to genital warts (all p < 0.001). Some patterns of beliefs differed by participant characteristics. Conclusions The beliefs of YGBMSM varied by HPV-related disease outcome. Findings can guide future HPV vaccination communication efforts for YGBMSM by informing how to better frame messages and increase relevance.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection, attributed to 4.5% of all cancers worldwide. Co-infection with the metabolic syndrome (MetS), a common cluster of cardiometabolic risk factors, has been shown to increase the persistence of HPV. The purpose of this study was to estimate the association between HPV and MetS on mortality risk. METHODS Data for the current study was drawn from seven consecutive cycles (2003-2004 to 2015-2016) of the U.S. NHANES. The final analytic sample consisted of 5,101 individuals aged 18-65y with HPV and MetS information with follow-up to Dec. 31st, 2019. Baseline HPV status was assessed by either vaginal swab, penile swab or oral rinse and used to classify participants as: no HPV (n = 1,619), low (n = 1,138), probable (n = 672), and high-risk (n = 1,672; 22% type 16, and 10% type 18) HPV using IARC criteria. MetS was assessed by the Harmonized criteria. RESULTS The average follow-up was 9.4 y with 240 all-cause deaths (no HPV: n = 46 deaths; low-risk: n = 60 deaths; probable: n = 37 deaths, and; high-risk: n = 97 deaths). HPV status alone revealed no associations with mortality in fully adjusted models. Cross-classification into discrete MetS/HPV strata yielded an increased risk of mortality in females with high-risk HPV/MetS relative to the no MetS/no HPV group. CONCLUSIONS In this study, low, probable, and high-risk HPV and MetS were differentially related to mortality risk in men and women. Further work is necessary to separate the temporal, age, vaccination, and sex effects of HPV diagnosis in these relationships using prospective studies with detailed histories of HPV infection and persistence.

Abstract
The International Papillomavirus Conference was held in Washington DC in April 2023 and encompassed wide ranging basic, clinical and public health research relating to animal and human papillomaviruses. This editorial is a personal reflection, it does not attempt to be comprehensive and reports on some key aspects centred on the prospects for immune interventions in prevention and treatment of HPV infections and early precancers with a focus on cervical neoplasia. There is optimism for the future impact of immunotherapy in treating early HPV associated disease. This will depend on developing an appropriate design of vaccines and delivery vehicles which then need to be properly tested in clinical trials that are able to measure a useful clinical endpoint. Thereafter vaccines (prophylactic or therapeutic) still need global access and sufficient uptake to deliver impact and a key and necessary driver is education.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Knowledge on genital type-specific human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence among men is important for prevention of HPV-related cancers and other diseases. Men who have sex with men (MSM) have higher anal prevalence than men who have sex with women only (MSW) but for genital HPV this is unclear. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of type-specific genital HPV prevalence among men, by sexual orientation. METHODS MEDLINE and Embase were used for searching publications reporting on male genital HPV prevalence with data from November 2011 onwards. A random-effects meta-analysis was conducted estimating pooled type-specific and grouped external genital and urethral HPV prevalence. Subgroup analyses were conducted for sexual orientation. RESULTS Twenty-nine studies were eligible. Of those, 13 studies reported prevalence among MSM, 5 among MSW, and 13 studies did not stratify by sexual orientation. The most common genotypes were HPV-6 and HPV-16 for both anatomical locations, although heterogeneity was high. HPV prevalence was similar among studies reporting on MSW, MSM, and men with unknown sexual orientation. CONCLUSIONS Genital HPV is common among men, with HPV-6 and HPV-16 being the most common genotypes. Type-specific HPV genital prevalence appears to be similar among MSM and MSW, which contrasts with earlier findings on anal HPV.

Abstract
Introduction HPV infection is a common risk factor for all anogenital cancers. However, there are important differences in the epidemiology of anogenital cancers and these have not been compared considering diverse epidemiological indicators over a long period of time. To fill this gap, we investigated incidence, mortality, and survival trends of anogenital cancers over a period of three decades. Methods We conducted an observational registry-based study using data from the population-based cancer registry of Granada in southern Spain. We collected data on all incident cases of anogenital cancer (cervical, anal, penile, vulvar, and vaginal cancer) diagnosed between 1985 and 2017. We calculated crude and age-standardized incidence and mortality rates, and 1, 3, and 5-year overall and net survival. We further conducted time-trend analysis calculating annual percent changes (APC) for each cancer site. Results The incidence of anogenital cancers decreased slightly during the past 30 years, with the exception of vulvar cancer, where a slight increase was observed. Mortality decreased significantly for cervical cancer over the study period but increased non-significantly for the remaining cancer sites. Survival rates were similar to those reported in comparable countries and increased for cervical and vulvar cancer. Discussion Cervical cancer was the greatest contributor to the burden of anogenital cancers and showed a marked improvement in all indicators in comparison to the remaining cancer sites.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The epidemiology of human papillomavirus (HPV) in women has been well documented. Less is known about the epidemiology of HPV in men. We aim to provide updated global and regional pooled overall, type-specific, and age-specific prevalence estimates of genital HPV infection in men. METHODS We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of genital HPV infection in the general male population. We searched Embase, Ovid MEDLINE, and the Global Index Medicus for studies published between Jan 1, 1995, and June 1, 2022. Inclusion criteria were population-based surveys in men aged 15 years or older or HPV prevalence studies with a sample size of at least 50 men with no HPV-related pathology or known risk factors for HPV infection that collected samples from anogenital sites and used PCR or hybrid capture 2 techniques for HPV DNA detection. Exclusion criteria were studies conducted among populations at increased risk of HPV infection, exclusively conducted among circumcised men, and based on urine or semen samples. We screened identified reports and extracted summary-level data from those that were eligible. Data were extracted by two researchers independently and reviewed by a third, and discrepancies were resolved by consensus. We extracted only data on mucosal α-genus HPVs. Global and regional age-specific prevalences for any HPV, high-risk (HR)-HPV, and individual HPV types were estimated using random-effects models for meta-analysis and grouped by UN Sustainable Development Goals geographical classification. FINDINGS We identified 5685 publications from database searches, of which 65 studies (comprising 44 769 men) were included from 35 countries. The global pooled prevalence was 31% (95% CI 27-35) for any HPV and 21% (18-24) for HR-HPV. HPV-16 was the most prevalent HPV genotype (5%, 95% CI 4-7) followed by HPV-6 (4%, 3-5). HPV prevalence was high in young adults, reaching a maximum between the ages of 25 years and 29 years, and stabilised or slightly decreased thereafter. Pooled prevalence estimates were similar for the UN Sustainable Development Goal geographical regions of Europe and Northern America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Australia and New Zealand (Oceania). The estimates for Eastern and South-Eastern Asia were half that of the other regions. INTERPRETATION Almost one in three men worldwide are infected with at least one genital HPV type and around one in five men are infected with one or more HR-HPV types. Our findings show that HPV prevalence is high in men over the age of 15 years and support that sexually active men, regardless of age, are an important reservoir of HPV genital infection. These estimates emphasise the importance of incorporating men in comprehensive HPV prevention strategies to reduce HPV-related morbidity and mortality in men and ultimately achieve elimination of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. Abstract
BACKGROUND Routine human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is recommended for young adults, yet many young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (YGBMSM) remain unvaccinated. We report the efficacy of Outsmart HPV, a web-based HPV vaccination intervention for YGBMSM. METHODS From 2019 to 2021, we recruited YGBMSM in the United States who were ages 18-25 and unvaccinated against HPV (n = 1,227). Participants were randomized to receive either: (i) Outsmart HPV content online and monthly interactive text reminders (interactive group); (ii) Outsmart HPV content online and monthly unidirectional text reminders (unidirectional group); or (iii) standard information online about HPV vaccine (control group). Regression models compared study groups on HPV vaccination outcomes. RESULTS Overall, 33% of participants reported initiating the HPV vaccine series and 7% reported series completion. Initiation was more common among participants in the interactive group compared with the control group [odds ratio (OR) = 1.47, 98.3% confidence interval (CI): 1.03-2.11]. Completion was more common among participants in both the interactive group (OR = 3.70, 98.3% CI: 1.75-7.83) and unidirectional group (OR = 2.26, 98.3% CI: 1.02-5.00) compared with the control group. Participants who received Outsmart HPV content reported higher levels of satisfaction with online content compared with the control group. CONCLUSIONS Outsmart HPV is an efficacious and acceptable HPV vaccination intervention for YGBMSM. Future efforts are needed to determine how to optimize the intervention and disseminate it to settings that provide services to YGBMSM. IMPACT Outsmart HPV is a promising tool for increasing HPV vaccination among YGBMSM with the potential for wide dissemination.

Abstract
Introduction and aims Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of HPV infection, the prevalent HPV genotypes in women and men with recurrent genital infections, and the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on the HPV prevention program. Materials and methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in Duhok city, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, between January 2018 and September 2020. We recruited patients from an infectious disease clinic, who were married, were older than 18 years, and agreed to participate in this study. A reverse hybridisation-based assay was used to identify the HPV genotypes prevalent in these patients. Results Among the patients in the study, 20.9% (67/320) tested positive for HPV infection. The HPV prevalence in females was 18.8% (52/276), which was lower than that in males (34.1%,15/44) (p = 0.21). Thirty-six patients (11.3%) were infected with a single HPV genotype, seventeen (5.3%) with two HPV genotypes, eight (2.5%) with three HPV genotypes, and the remaining six (1.8%) with four or more HPV genotypes. The most common genotypes detected among the patients were HPV-6 (7.2%), -11 (3.8%), and -16 (3.4%). The prevalence of all HPV genotype infections was highest and lowest in the 18-25- and 36-45-year age groups, respectively (X 2 = 8.24; p = 0.041). The number of referred patients substantially reduced from 12 patients per month to 1 patient per month during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion HPV infection was common in the study population. The most common genotypes were HPV 6, 11, and 16, against which vaccines are available. Further population-based studies are needed to investigate the prevalence of such an infection.

Abstract
Knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs are important antecedents to HPV vaccination, yet remain suboptimal among young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (YGBMSM). We report the effects of a theoretically-informed, web-based HPV vaccination intervention on these cognitive outcomes. From 2019-2021, we recruited a national sample of YGBMSM ages 18-25 in the United States who were unvaccinated against HPV (n = 1,227). Participants received either standard HPV vaccination information online (control) or population-targeted, individually-tailored content online (Outsmart HPV intervention). Mixed effects models determined if pre-post changes in cognitive outcomes differed between study groups. For five of seven knowledge items about HPV, there were larger pre-post increases among the intervention group than the control group in the percentage of participants who provided correct responses (all statistically significant at p = .05 after Holm's correction). There were also larger pre-post improvements among the intervention group than the control group for most attitudes and beliefs examined, including response efficacy of HPV vaccine (pre-post increases in means: 0.57 vs. 0.38); self-efficacy for the HPV vaccination process (pre-post increases in means: 0.23 vs. 0.10); and intention to get HPV vaccine (pre-post increases in means: 0.70 vs. 0.28) (all statistically significant at p = .05 after Holm's correction). Outsmart HPV is a promising tool for improving key cognitive antecedents to HPV vaccination among YGBMSM, supporting the use of theoretically-informed interventions to affect such outcomes. If efficacious in increasing HPV vaccine uptake in future analyses, this intervention could be utilized in clinical and other healthcare settings that provide services to YGBMSM.

Abstract
The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is one of the most effective public health measures for preventing HPV-related cancers and other diseases. However, vaccination coverage is not at the desired level, especially among men. In this context, we aimed to determine HPV vaccination rates, barriers, and some related demographic and personal factors among male university students in Turkey. We shared an online questionnaire prepared by the authors in line with the relevant literature on social media platforms and included 1723 male university students in this cross-sectional study. Only 4.9% of the students stated that they were vaccinated against HPV, and the most important obstacle to vaccination was not knowing when to be vaccinated (49.5%). Additionally, marital status, sexual orientation, chronic diseases, family history of cervical cancer, and having heard of HPV were significant predictors of HPV vaccination.

Abstract
Objective To estimate the burden of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Treponema pallidum (TP), and human papillomavirus (HPV) infections among people aged 10 to 25 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Methods The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and LILACS databases were searched, as well as documents from regional organizations or national health Institutions. Population-based studies that reported prevalence or incidence of CT, NG, TP, and HPV detected through confirmatory tests in adolescents and young people were included. Two reviewers independently selected studies and extracted data. The quality of studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Pooled estimators were calculated in cases where heterogeneity was <70%; when not feasible, prevalence ranges were reported. Results Out of a total of 3 583 references, 15 prevalence studies complied with the inclusion criteria. Due to substantial heterogeneity (>70%), it was not possible to pool frequency estimators. Among the general population, the prevalence of CT infection ranged between 2.1% and 30.1% (9 studies, 5 670 participants); for NG, prevalence ranged between 0% and 2.9% (8 studies, 5 855 participants); for TP, prevalence varied between 0% and 0.7% (3 studies, 11 208 participants), and for HPV infection, prevalence ranged between 25.1% and 55.6% (8 studies, 3 831 participants). Conclusions Reliable, population-based data on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in adolescents and youth in Latin America and the Caribbean are limited. Additional studies are needed to better understand the burden of STIs in this population. However, given the substantial prevalence of STIs detected, countries need public health policies for prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of STIs in young people.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Although many systematic reviews for the human papillomavirus vaccines cost effectiveness have been published, they vary in perspectives, methods, and quality. We aimed to condense systematically such evidence to facilitate locating, processing, and learning, not only about the consensus of findings but also how models were built and their evolution over time and across settings. METHODS We conducted an umbrella review of cost-effectiveness studies for human papillomavirus vaccines using three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane). Based on their objectives, we classified studies into three groups (human papillomavirus vaccines cost effectiveness, model characteristics, and all-type vaccines, including human papillomavirus vaccines). We used the AMTAR2 to assess the quality of the studies. Additionally, we provided a summary of study findings, discussions, and evidence gaps in the literature. RESULTS Though most studies were critically low quality and had a low quality of reporting, the human papillomavirus vaccine was consistently cost effective in young girls and men who have sex with men. Stratified analyses by rated quality did not change the results. The quality assessment of the reviews did not necessarily reflect the quality assessment of underlying studies. The human papillomavirus vaccine models became more complex over time, capturing more realistic disease transmission with different human papillomavirus strains and herd immunities. CONCLUSIONS Additional evidence is needed for vulnerable populations (e.g., childhood cancer survivors) who are at high risk for human papillomavirus vaccine-related cancers and, therefore, may be more cost effective when receiving human papillomavirus vaccines. Quantifying human papillomavirus vaccine cost effectiveness via meta-analyses is feasible if investigators can increase the homogeneity of their populations.

Human Papillomavirus Prevalence in Urine Samples of Asymptomatic Male Sexual Partners of Women with Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in males is associated with various cancers, including cervical cancer in women and penile and bladder cancers in men. However, there is limited research on the prevalence and prevention of male HPV infection. Moreover, a rapid test that can prevent the increase in HPV infection is needed. In this study, the prevalence of sexually transmitted pathogen (STP) and HPV infection was analyzed using real-time polymerase chain reaction assay in random urine samples collected from asymptomatic male sexual partners of women with sexually transmitted diseases. Among 130 men, 65 (50.0%) had STP and 12 (9.23%) had HPV infection. There was no association between STP and HPV infection. Among 12 cases of HPV infection, three were HPV-16 single infections, six were multiple infections, including HPV-16, and three of other high-risk HPV infections. Our results suggest the need for STP testing, including HPV testing, in sexual partners of high-risk women with sexually transmitted diseases, even in men without clinical symptoms (asymptomatic). Further research should be conducted by diversifying urine samples. We report the most convenient method for HPV detection, and it is expected to be widely applied to prevent sexually transmitted diseases in men and women.

Abstract
The host genetic factors that influence the natural history of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in men are not well known. Our aim was to evaluate the role of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-G polymorphism in oral and genital HPV infection in men. Altogether, 130 men from the Finnish Family HPV Study, with a 6-year follow-up, were included in the analyses. HLA-G alleles were tested by direct sequencing. Oral, urethral, and semen samples were collected and analyzed for 24 different HPV genotypes. Unconditional logistic regression was used to determine associations between HLA-G alleles and genotypes with HPV infection and its outcomes. Overall, eight different HLA-G alleles were identified with 15 different HLA-G genotype combinations. The most common HLA-G allele among the men was G*01:01:01 (86.2%, n = 112) followed by G*01:01:02 (36.2%, n = 47). Allele G*01:01:02 showed to be protective against any- and high-risk (HR) oral HPV (OR range of 0.20–0.24, 95% CI range of 0.06–0.85). Men having allele G*01:01:01 showed a reduced risk for incident (OR 0.30, 95% CI 0.11–0.84) and persistent (OR 0.24, 95% CI 0.08–0.69) oral infections. Allele G*01:01:03 was associated with increased risk for urethral HR-HPV infections (OR 4.94, 95% CI 1.34–18.27). Among self-reported demographic data, genotype G*01:01:01/01:01:03 was associated with an increased risk for oral warts (OR 8.00, 95% CI 1.23–51.89) and allele G*01:03:01 increased the risk of pollen and/or animal allergy (OR 13.59, 95% CI 1.57–117.25). To conclude, HLA-G polymorphism in men largely impacts the outcome of an oral HPV infection and seems to associate with self-reported allergies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES In 2015, a publicly funded human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme was implemented for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) up to age 26 years in British Columbia, Canada. We assessed trends and correlates of HPV vaccine uptake from 2012 to 2019 in a cohort of gbMSM in Vancouver. METHODS We recruited sexually active gbMSM aged ≥16 years using respondent-driven sampling from February 2012 to February 2015 and followed them until July 2019. We evaluated self-reported HPV vaccine trends using mixed-effects logistic regression and identified factors associated with uptake using multivariable mixed-effects Poisson regression. RESULTS A total of 719 participants were recruited and completed the baseline visit, of whom 549 were unvaccinated with at least one follow-up visit. The median age was 33 years and 23% were living with HIV. HPV vaccination increased from 4% in 2012 to 28% in 2019 (p<0.001) among gbMSM >26 years, and from 9% in 2012 to 20% in 2017 (p<0.001) among gbMSM ≤26 years. Vaccination uptake increased after September 2015, following vaccination policy expansion (adjusted rate ratio (aRR)=1.82, 95% CI 1.06 to 3.12). In multivariable models, increased vaccination was associated with age ≤26 years vs ≥45 years (aRR=3.90; 95% CI 1.75 to 8.70), age 27-44 vs ≥45 years (aRR=2.86; 95% CI 1.46 to 5.62), involvement in gay community sports teams (aRR=2.31; 95% CI 1.15 to 4.64) and other groups (aRR=1.71; 95% CI 1.04 to 2.79), awareness of HIV-postexposure prophylaxis (aRR=5.50; 95% CI 1.31 to 23.09), recent sexually transmitted infection testing (aRR=2.72; 95% CI 1.60 to 4.60) and recent sex-work (aRR=2.59; 95% CI 1.08 to 6.19). CONCLUSIONS Although we observed increases in HPV vaccination uptake from 2012, by 2019 HPV vaccination still remained below 30% among gbMSM in Vancouver, BC. Additional interventions are needed to increase vaccine uptake.

Abstract
Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is a manifestation of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection which usually occurs in genital and perianal regions. We report a 46-year-old man with an ulcerative proctitis diagnosed four years earlier, asymptomatic for a long time under azathioprine but without any follow-up for three years. A colonoscopy was performed prior to potential immunosuppressive treatment discontinuation and showed a circumferential "laterally spreading tumour" in the rectum. Surprisingly biopsies revealed a CA with a very focally high-grade intra-epithelial lesion. Azathioprine was stopped and a transanal surgical resection was performed. At guided anamnesis, patient confirmed to be a former active "men who have sex with men". No recurrence of proctitis occurred despite azathioprine discontinuation. A retrospective review of the histological sections suggests that it was, in fact, an intestinal spirochetosis misdiagnosed as inflammatory bowel disease. Involvement of the rectal mucosa by HPV is a rare condition and this may have been promoted by inappropriate immunosuppressive treatment.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus infection is a cause of the development of invasive cervical cancer. Three types of vaccine are currently available to prevent precancerous/cancerous lesions due to persistent infection, which is supported mainly by 7 different high-risk genotypes. The aim of this pilot study was to acquire preliminary data on type-specific prevalence 10 years after the implementation of the HPV vaccination program in Italy, in order to subsequently plan appropriate observational studies in the Italian population. First-voided urine samples were collected from 393 consenting subjects, both females and males, aged 18–40 years, and HPV DNA was detected by PCR amplification of a 450 bp L1 fragment. All amplified products were genotyped by means of the Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) method. The female population was divided into three cohorts (“vaccine-eligible”, “pre-screening” and “screening” cohorts) according to the preventive intervention scheduled by age; males were included in the same three cohorts according to their year of birth. The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 19%, being higher in females than in males (22.1% vs. 13.6%, p = 0.03729). In the female population, 10 years after the start of the national immunization program, we observed a reduction in the prevalence of vaccine types and the number of circulating genotypes, especially in the “vaccine-eligible” cohort. The frequency of HPV vaccine types increased with age, particularly in males in the “pre-screening” and “screening” cohorts. Our study highlights the importance of monitoring HPV infection in both genders, to validate the effect of the HPV vaccination program.

Abstract
Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of condylomata acuminata/HPV and evaluate associated predictors in infected patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional and retrospective study, medical records of patients who attended a public health referral center located in Southern Brazil, Parana, between April 2012 and March 2017 were reviewed. Epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory data were analyzed using the chi-square and odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: The overall prevalence of condylomata acuminata/HPV in 3,447 patients was 33.1% (n = 1,140). Coinfection of condylomata/HPV with other STI was noted in 23.7% (n = 270) of cases. The population was characterized by a high prevalence (43.8%) in patients aged < 20 years, women (37.4%), white (33.3%), educational level with more than 8 years of study (33.7%), widowed (39.2%), heterosexual (36.7%), and ages between 13 and 19 years at first sexual intercourse (41.1%). A significant association was observed between male sex and multiple partners and between male sex and irregular use of condoms (p < 0.001). The predictors associated with HPV infection were the age group of up to 29 years (OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.3–3.7, p < 0.013) and homosexual/bisexual (OR 0.2, 95% CI 0.12–0.66, p = 0.003). Conclusion: The findings showed a high prevalence of condylomata acuminata in a public health center study, with emphasis on the age range below the third decade of life and sexual behavior predictors. These predictors are important for the determination of preventive measures against the transmission of infection and the development of cancer.

Abstract
Background Addressing the burden of HPV-associated diseases among men is increasingly becoming a public health issue. The main objective of this study was to determine HPV prevalence among a healthy community-based Malaysian men. Method This was a cross-sectional study that recruited 503 healthy males from 3 community-based clinics in Selangor, Malaysia. Genital and anal samples were collected from each participant for 14 high risk and 2 low risk HPV DNA detection and genotyping. All participants responded to a set of detailed sociodemographic and sexual behaviour questionnaire. Results The median age at enrolment was 40 years old (IQR: 31–50). The anogenital HPV6/11 prevalence was 3.2% whereas high risk HPV prevalence was 27.1%. The genital HPV prevalence for HPV6/11 was 2.9% while high risk HPV was 18.8%. HPV6/11 prevalence in the anal canal was 1.6% and high risk HPV was 12.7%. HPV 18 was the most prevalent genotype detected in the anogenital area. There was a significant independent association between genital and anal HPV infections. Conclusion Anogenital HPV infection is common among Malaysian men. These findings emphasize the ubiquity of HPV infection and thus the value of population-wide access to HPV prevention.

Abstract
Cancer-related diseases represent the second overall cause of death worldwide. Human papilloma virus (HPV) is an infectious agent which is mainly sexually transmitted and may lead to HPV-associated cancers in both men and women. Almost all cervical cancers are HPV-associated, however, an increasing number of head and neck cancers (HNCs), especially oropharyngeal cancer, can be linked to HPV infection. Moreover, anogenital cancers, including vaginal, vulvar, penial, and anal cancers, represent a subset of HPV-related cancers. Whereas testing and prevention of cervical cancer have significantly improved over past decades, anogenital cancers remain more difficult to confirm. Current clinical trials including patients with HPV-related cancers focus on finding proper testing for all HPV-associated cancers as well as improve the currently applied treatments. The HPV viral oncoproteins, E6 and E7, lead to degradation of, respectively, p53 and pRb resulting in entering the S phase without G1 arrest. These high-risk HPV viral oncogenes alter numerous cellular processes, including DNA repair, angiogenesis, and/or apoptosis, which eventually result in carcinogenesis. Additionally, a comprehensive analysis of gene expression and alteration among a panel of DNA double strand breaks (DSB) repair genes in HPV-negative and HPV-positive HNC cancers reveals differences pointing to HPV-dependent modifications of DNA repair processes in these cancers. In this review, we discuss the current knowledge regarding HPV-related cancers, current screening, and treatment options as well as DNA damage response-related biological aspects of the HPV infection and clinical trials.

Abstract
Background The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted viruses worldwide. HPV infection in men is a serious clinical issue as they could be considered as a reservoir for inadvertently transmitting infection to women. Moreover, genital HPV infection could be a source for anogenital cancers in men. Methods This cross sectional study was conducted from January 2017 to December 2018. Four hundred fifteen asymptomatic men who were visited by specialists, referred to Nilou laboratory in terms of high risk (HR) HPV test testing. HR-HPV genotypes were detected using an approved assay which could discover HPV 16, HPV 18 and a pool of other high risk HPV genotypes as well as 16+ other HR and 18 + other HR (as multiple genotypes). SPSS software was used for statistical analysis. Results The mean age was 33 ± 8.14 years. Specimens were referred to the laboratory by urologists, (n = 132, 32%, 95%CI: 25.0-39.4), dermatologists, (n = 104, 25, 95% CI: 19.1-30.9), gynecologists, (n = 75, 18, 95%CI: 13.3-29.3) and other specialists (n = 104, 25, 95% CI:19.1-30.9). The overall prevalence of other HR HPV, HPV16, HPV18 and multiple genotypes were 54.2% (45/83), 25.3% (21/83), 3.6% (3/83) and 16.8% (14/83), respectively. The frequency of HR-HPV, HPV16 and HPV18 genotypes was the highest among 30-40 years old. Conclusion The prevalence of HR-HPV infection among Iranian asymptomatic males was relatively high. Investigation on HPV infection in men as reservoir and transmission vehicle of HPV in addition to screening in women will improve the national public health provisions and will contribute to the application of infection control measurements at a national level.

Abstract
Background Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men experience several disparities related to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, including high incidence rates of anal cancer. Although the HPV vaccine is currently recommended for young adults, HPV vaccine coverage is modest among young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (YGBMSM). Objective We describe the design and methods for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to rigorously evaluate Outsmart HPV, a population-targeted, individually tailored, Web-based HPV vaccination intervention for YGBMSM. The RCT is designed to determine the efficacy of the intervention, the mechanism by which the intervention has an effect (ie, mediation), and whether efficacy varies by participant characteristics (ie, moderation). Methods Outsmart HPV was previously developed and pilot-tested. This study is a 3-arm prospective RCT that will enroll a projected 1995 YGBMSM who are aged 18 to 25 years, live in the United States, and have not received any doses of the HPV vaccine. Participants will be recruited by means of paid advertisements on social media sites and randomized to receive (1) standard information on the Web about HPV vaccine (control group), (2) Outsmart HPV content on the Web with monthly unidirectional vaccination reminders sent via text messages, or (3) Outsmart HPV content on the Web with monthly interactive vaccination reminders sent via text messages. Participants will complete Web-based surveys at 4 time points during the study: baseline, immediately after engaging with Web-based content, 3 months after randomization, and 9 months after randomization. Primary outcomes will include both HPV vaccine initiation (ie, receipt of 1 or more doses of the HPV vaccine) and completion (receipt of all 3 doses recommended for this age range). We will examine constructs from the intervention’s theoretical framework as potential mediators and demographic and health-related characteristics as potential moderators of intervention effects. Results The institutional review board at The Ohio State University has approved the study. Materials have been developed and finalized for all study groups. Recruitment for the RCT began in fall 2019. Conclusions If shown to be efficacious, Outsmart HPV has the potential to fill an important gap by promoting HPV vaccination among a population at increased risk of HPV infection and HPV-related disease. Abstract
BACKGROUND Papillomavirus (HPV) often occurs in the semen of patients with male accessory gland infection (MAGI). Ultrasound (US) evaluation has been suggested as a promising diagnostic tool for patients with HPV-related MAGI. No data on the spontaneous clearance of HPV-DNA have been reported so far in HPV-related MAGI. PURPOSE The primary aim of the study was to assess the percentage of early HPV-DNA spontaneous clearance in patients with prostatitis. The secondary aim was to evaluate the frequency of spontaneous clearance of HPV-DNA among patients with prostatitis associated with the presence or absence of US abnormalities. METHODS Patients with inflammatory MAGI and at least one suspicious criterion for HPV infection underwent semen HPV-DNA detection and prostate US. The presence of HPV-DNA was further investigated after a 6-month-long follow-up. MAIN RESULTS Eighty patients satisfied the inclusion criteria and were recruited in the study. 69% of patients (55/80) showed HPV-DNA persistence in the semen. Among them, 82% (45/55) was positive for US signs of prostatitis, while they occurred only in 12% (3/25) of those patients with no sign of HPV-DNA persistence (p < 0.001). All patients with persistent high-risk HPV genotype (n = 30) showed at least two US signs of prostatitis. In 73% of patients (22/30), E6 and E7 mRNAs were detected. CONCLUSION US signs of prostatitis more frequently occurred in patients with evidence of HPV-DNA persistence on semen, especially in those with high-risk genotypes. This highlights the importance of US in the framework of HPV-related MAGI.

Abstract
The current evidence regarding the safety and immunogenicity of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations for people living with HIV (PLWH) is unclear. We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases from inception to 23 November 2018. The pooled proportion, relative risk (RR) and the standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Twenty-four studies consisting of 7507 participants were identified. The pooled proportion of adverse events in HIV-infected vaccinees was 60% and the antibody seroconversion rates in HPV-6, -11, -16, -18 subtypes were all above 90%. When compared with the placebo groups, the risk of adverse events was not different except for the injection site reactions (RR: 2.63, 95% CI: 1.72–4.01, p < 0.001), and the level of CD4 was relatively lower (SMD: −0.17, 95% CI: −0.29 to −0.04, p = 0.01) in the HIV-positive vaccinees groups. When compared with HIV-negative vaccinees, the risk of adverse events was not different, but the pooled RR and SMD indicated that antibody seroconversion and geometric mean titer for HPV-18 in HIV-positive groups was lower (RR: 0.91, 95% CI: 0.87–0.95, p < 0.001; SMD: −0.43, 95% CI: −0.62 to −0.24, p < 0.001). The study proves that HPV vaccine is safe and efficacious for PLWH and has important implications for international guidelines and strategies for HPV vaccination.

Abstract
Background The purpose of this study was to assess genital recurrence of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes included in the 9-valent vaccine and to investigate factors associated with recurrence among men in the HPV Infection in Men (HIM) Study. Methods Men were followed every 6 months for a median of 3.7 years. HPV genotypes were detected using Roche linear array. Factors associated with type-specific HPV recurrence (infections occurring after a ≥12-month infection-free period) were assessed. Results In type-specific analyses, 31% of prior prevalent and 20% of prior incident infections recurred. Among prevalent infections, HPV types 52, 45, 16, 58, and 6 and among incident infections, HPV types 58, 52, 18, 16, and 11 had the highest rates of recurrence. New sexual partners (male or female) and frequency of sexual intercourse with female partners were associated with HPV-6, -16, -31, and -58 infection recurrence. In grouped analyses, lifetime and new male sexual partners were associated with recurrence of prior incident infection with any of the 9 HPV types. Conclusions Recurrence of genital HPV infections is relatively common among men and associated with high-risk sexual behavior. Further studies are needed to understand the role of HPV recurrence in the etiology of HPV-associated diseases.

Abstract
HIV infection may increase the risk of persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and complications. Male adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with perinatally-acquired HIV (PHIV) and without HIV in Thailand were matched by age and lifetime number of sexual partners. HPV infection at oral, anal, penile, and scrotal sites was detected by polymerase chain reaction. A total of 49 PHIV and 47 HIV-uninfected male AYAs (median age 18 [17–20] years) were enrolled (June 2013–September 2014). Overall, 18 were men who have sex with men (MSM) (12% of PHIV, 26% of HIV-uninfected AYAs; P = 0.12). Among the PHIV, the median (interquartile range) CD4 cell count was 573 (434–747) cells/mm3and 69% had HIV RNA <40 copies/ml. The prevalence of any HPV infection was 61% in PHIV and 49% in HIV-uninfected AYAs ( P = 0.23) and that of high-risk HPV was 33% in PHIV and 28% in HIV-uninfected AYAs ( P = 0.59). Among those with HPV, 55% had any high-risk HPV type and 28% had HPV-16 and/or HPV-18. In multivariate models, smoking (OR 6.10, 95% CI, 1.19–31.35, P = 0.01) and prior history of STI symptoms (OR 5.01, 95% CI, 1.63–15.40, P = 0.004) were associated with high-risk HPV infection. HPV vaccination in early adolescence presents a valuable but missed prevention opportunity.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with ano-genital and cervical cancer. Persistence of oncogenic HPV genotypes is a requirement for development and progression of malignancies. Although, >70% of women clear incident HPV infections, data on natural history and HPV immunology among men is limited. To evaluate cell-mediated immune responses to natural HPV infections among men, we assessed cytokine responses on PBMCs collected from men with persistent or cleared HPV. Men with HPV clearance and those with HPV persistence had increased odds (6-times and 3-times respectively) of mounting cytokine responses compared to HPV uninfected men. Th1 cytokines IFN-γ (5.1-fold) and IL-2 (4.2-fold) were significantly (p < 0.0001) upregulated among men with HPV clearance compared to HPV uninfected men. Among men with HPV clearance compared to those with persistent HPV infection, only IFN-γ (2.4-fold) and IL-2 (3.0-fold) were significantly (p < 0.0001) upregulated. Th1 cell-mediated cytokine response was associated with natural HPV clearance in men.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is estimated to be the most common sexually transmitted infection. The present systematic review summarizes data regarding the prevalence of HPV and the distribution of subtypes in heterosexual male partners of women, who were diagnosed with any grade of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). METHODS We conducted a systematic review of the literature by Medline and Google Scholar databases using the terms "Human Papillomavirus" or "HPV" plus "men" or "male partners" or "women with CIN". We included original published English-language articles published from 1/1/2000 until 1/1/2018 that had screened male partners of women with CIN using HPV DNA testing. We excluded studies that they overlapped with other included studies or were unrelated to the study subject. RESULTS We included a total of 12 publications, which reported the prevalence of HPV in free-clinical signs male partners of women with CIN. The largest proportion of the studies were from South America (seven studies), and the rest from Europe. The mean age of participants was 35.18 + - 3.47 years. HPV prevalence ranged from 12.9 to 86%; the total HPV prevalence among the studies was 49.1%, while ten out twelve studies (83.3%) demonstrated prevalence > 20%. Between the studies, the distribution of HPV subtypes varied on the basis of the method used, on the population and on the geographic region. A great variety of subtypes were detected, including 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 40, 42, 45, 51, 52, 53, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61, 62, 66, 68, 81 and 83. In six studies the HPV 16 was the most frequent, while in two others the HPV 6 and HPV 83. CONCLUSIONS Until now, there are not precise screening or surveillance guidelines for the management of partners of women with CIN. This population is frequently colonized by various HPV subtypes and therefore need to be screened in an effort to reduce the infection in both sexes. The screening test could include detection/identification of HPV subtypes by a molecular assay, followed by peniscopy only in the positive cases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Physicians are the sole prescribers of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for adults in Canada. This survey of Canadian physicians aimed to explore knowledge, barriers, and preventive practices regarding HPV vaccination. METHOD A survey of general practitioners (GPs) (n = 337) and obstetrician/gynaecologists (OB/GYNs) (n = 81) was conducted in May and June 2016 using an online panel. Demographic data and information pertaining to HPV knowledge, attitudes, and vaccination practices were collected by using a 22-item questionnaire. RESULTS A total of 83% of GPs recommended or administered HPV vaccine to adults. Among physicians, 99% to 100% strongly agreed that vaccination is an important aspect of disease prevention. Physicians were rarely concerned about vaccine safety (5%-11%). Cost was seen as the number one barrier by 92% to 95% of physicians. Physicians rated consumers' understanding of HPV to be low (11%-14%, very good; and 49%-56%, somewhat good knowledge). Among physicians, 60% to 66% of said they routinely discussed HPV vaccination with patients. Female physicians demonstrated greater knowledge of HPV than their male counterparts. CONCLUSION GPs and obstetrician/gynaecologists routinely recommend and administer the HPV vaccine to patients. The majority of physicians showed high levels of knowledge regarding HPV vaccine and associated cancers; however, perceived barriers of cost may limit recommendations for vaccination, particularly among older women or men.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In sub-Saharan Africa, a generation of HIV-1-infected children is approaching the age of sexual debut and becoming at risk for HPV infection and its sequelae. We assessed safety and immunogenicity of the quadrivalent HPV (qHPV) vaccine in HIV-1-infected adolescents. METHODS In an open-label trial among Kenyan, HIV-1-infected adolescents aged 9-14 years, we administered the qHPV vaccine at 0, 2 and 6 months and measured antibody titers to HPV-16, 18, 6 and 11 at month 7 and 12 post-vaccination. Measures of immunogenic response from HIV-1-negative historical cohorts from Africa and HIV-1 positive adolescent cohorts from the USA were used for comparison. RESULTS We enrolled 100 girls and 80 boys with a median age of 12 years and median baseline CD4 cell count of 684 (IQR 478, 935) cells/µL. One hundred and fifty four (86%) were receiving antiretroviral therapy for a median of 4.5 (IQR 2.3, 6.3) years; 110 (71%) had <400 copies of plasma HIV-1 RNA/mL. Of 189 enrolled children, 179 received all three doses. Two hundred and eighty five (64%) of 445 adverse events were injection site reactions; none were greater than grade 2. Of 6 Serious Adverse Events (SAEs), none were considered vaccine related. Seroconversion to HPV-18, 16, 11, 6 at month 7 occurred in 93.3%, 98.3%, 97.2% and 99.6% of vaccine recipients; similar rates have been reported in historical controls. The mean log10 HPV antibody titer measured at month 7 increased with each log10 increase in CD4 by 1.4 (95% CI: 1.1-1.7) for HPV-18; 1.2 (0.9-1.4) for HPV-16; 1.1 (0.8-1.3) for HPV-11; 0.7 (0.5-1.0) for HPV-6 (all p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION Almost all Kenyan HIV-1-infected adolescents mounted an immune response comparable to other immunized populations. HPV antibody titers were higher in those with preserved CD4 cell counts. Longer term-follow up will determine sustainability of the immune response. ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT00557245.

Abstract
Background Differences in human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence among males and females have been reported. Using the 2013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, we evaluated sex differences in prevalence overall and by demographic and sexual behavior characteristics. Methods Self-collected penile and cervicovaginal swabs from participants aged 14-59 were tested for HPV DNA. Prevalences of any HPV and high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) were estimated for sexually experienced males and females. Overall and in models stratified by demographic characteristics and behaviors, prevalence was compared in males and females using prevalence ratios (PR). Results Overall, males had higher prevalence than females of any HPV (PR, 1.14; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.03-1.27) and HR-HPV (PR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.07-1.43). Prevalences were lower among males than females at ages 14-19 and higher at ages 40-49 and 50-59. Sex differences in models stratified by race/ethnicity, poverty, sexual behaviors, and smoking were observed. After adjusting for lifetime sex partners, most sex differences were attenuated, but males had lower prevalences at ages 14-19 and 20-24 and higher HR-HPV prevalence among non-Hispanic blacks. Conclusions Any HPV and HR-HPV prevalences were significantly higher in males; sex differences varied by age group and race/ethnicity. Lifetime partners explained many of the differences by sex.

Abstract
Human papillomaviruses (HPV) infected men causes continued transmission of HPV to women. The prevalence of 15 high-risk HPV strains (HPV16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68) and 6 low-risk HPV strains (HPV6, 11, 42, 43, 44 and CP8304) were evaluated in 935 males with genital warts. Of the 447 (447/935, 47.8%) HPV DNA positive subjects, 230 (24.6%), 356 (38.1%) and 139 (14.9%) were infected by high-risk, low-risk and both high and low-risk HPV respectively. Of the 356 low-risk HPV infected subjects, 333(93.5%) were infected by single HPV strain; 203 (57.0%), 147 (41.3%), 24 (6.7%) and 5 (1.4%) were infected with HPV genotype 6, 11, CP8304 and 44 respectively; population with age ≤ 20 showed the highest infection rate. High-risk HPV are also highly prevalent in our patients, genotype 16, 58, 51, 39, 52 and 53 are the top five prevalent genotypes with infection rates of 27.4%, 18.7%, 14.3%, 13.9%, 12.6% and 12.6% respectively; only 68.3% subjects were sole infection; subjects with 41 ≤ age ≤ 50 showed the highest infection rate. Both high and low-risk HPV are highly prevalent in men with genital warts, its impact on women HPV control and prevention need further evaluation.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a contemporary public health concern because of its association with cervical cancer. Despite evidence about HPV vaccination benefits, debate surrounds whether or not to vaccinate American youth. While no nationwide mandate exists, understanding the behaviors and intentions of future parents may provide insight about our ability to protect the next generation of school-aged youth. The purposes of this study were to examine factors associated with unmarried college students' intentions to: (1) vaccinate their daughters against HPV and (2) give their daughters the choice about whether or not to be vaccinated. Data were analyzed from 1606 college students aged 18-26 using an internet-delivered questionnaire. Two binary logistic regression analyses were performed identifying predictor variables associated with participants' intentions when having daughters in the future to vaccinate them against HPV and whether or not they would let their daughters decide to get the vaccination. Relative to those who did not intend to vaccinate their daughters against HPV, participants who were female (OR 1.55, P = 0.018), sexually active (OR 1.62, P = 0.001), diagnosed with HPV (OR 2.64, P < 0.001), received a flu shot in the past 12 months (OR 1.63, P = 0.002), perceived the HPV vaccine to be safe (OR 1.19, P < 0.001), and supported HPV vaccination mandates for school-aged youth (OR 2.58, P < 0.001) were more likely to report intentions of vaccinating their daughters against HPV. Participants who were sexually active (OR 1.45, P = 0.002) and perceived the HPV vaccine to be safe (OR 1.05, P = 0.012) were more likely to report they would allow their daughters to choose whether to be vaccinated against HPV. Until HPV vaccination mandates are enacted, parental support of vaccines are among the most effective way of increasing vaccine uptake. Identifying HPV vaccination support among future parents has potential to inform parent vaccination education programs related and advocacy for HPV vaccination policies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Effective interventions to promote human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination are needed, particularly among populations at increased risk of HPV-related disease. We developed and pilot tested a web-based intervention, Outsmart HPV, to promote HPV vaccination among young gay and bisexual men (YGBM). METHODS In 2016, we recruited a national sample (n = 150) of YGBM ages 18-25 in the United States who had not received any doses of HPV vaccine. Participants were randomized to receive either standard HPV vaccination information (control) or population-targeted, individually-tailored content (Outsmart HPV intervention). We assessed between group differences in HPV vaccination attitudes and beliefs immediately following the intervention using multiple linear regression. RESULTS There were no differences in HPV vaccination attitudes, beliefs and intentions between groups at baseline. Compared to participants in the control group, intervention participants reported: greater perception that men who have sex with men are at higher risk for anal cancer relative to other men (b = 0.34); greater HPV vaccination self-efficacy (b = 0.15); and fewer perceived harms of HPV vaccine (b = -0.34) on posttest surveys (all p < .05). Overall, intervention participants reported high levels of acceptability and satisfaction with the Outsmart HPV intervention (all > 4.4 on a 5-point scale). CONCLUSIONS Findings from this study provide preliminary support for a brief, tailored web-based intervention in improving HPV vaccination attitudes and beliefs among YGBM. Abstract
Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are the most common type of sexually transmitted infection in men but also related to high-risk cancers. This article considers the epidemiology of HPV in the male military population, the UK vaccination programme and the current UK Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation recommendations. Military men may not benefit from HPV herd immunity and may have a different risk profile; vaccination may in turn reduce the operational burden of HPV-related disease within this population. Military men may benefit from a targeted vaccination programme, and the paper calls for urgent consideration of approaches that could protect them from acquiring HPV.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Penile cancer is rare, and few population-based studies have described changes in time trend. This study aims to determine whether there has been an evolution in incidence and survival of penile cancer over time in France. METHODS Rates of age world-standardized incidence (ASRW) and net survival (NS) between 1989 and 2011 were calculated using data from 16 French cancer registries. Time trend incidence and survival analysis were confined to the eight registries operating throughout the full period. Log-linear Poisson regression analysis was used to estimate the average annual percentage change (AAPC) in incidence rates. The incidence rate for the most recent period was also calculated from all 16 cancer registries operating during 2009-2011. Human papillomavirus (HPV) exposure was deduced from the morphological code. NS was estimated using the Pohar-Perme estimator of the net cumulative rate. RESULTS No significant change in incidence was observed between 1989 and 2011 (AAPC: 0.08%; 95%CI: -1.01%; +1.17%). The incidence increased with age. The ASRW in 16 registries operating in 2009-2011 was 0.59 per 100,000 (95%CI: 0.50-0.68). The proportion of cases potentially linked to HPV was nearly 11% and did not change significantly over time. NS decreased with age but did not change over time (around 65% at 5 years). CONCLUSION Penile cancer remains rare in France, but survival is still low - probably because of delays in diagnosis and limited improvements in care. International clinical trials are needed to develop care recommendations based on an adequate level of evidence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Human papillomavirus (HPV) surveillance is important to monitor the effectiveness of national HPV vaccination programmes. Positivity of HPV in urine in men varies with different sampling methods. We aimed to determine the positivity for detection of HPV-6/11 in urine samples among men in relation to the position of genital warts and circumcision status. METHOD We analysed stored chlamydia-positive urine specimens in young heterosexual men aged less than 25 years attending Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Australia, between 2004 and 2015, for HPV genotypes. Positivity of HPV-6/11 and high-risk genotypes were stratified according to the position of genital warts and circumcision status. Positivity of HPV-6/11 was calculated using diagnosis of warts as the gold standard. Warts were classified as proximal penile warts from suprapubic area to midshaft of penis, and distal penile warts from distal shaft of penis to meatus. RESULTS Of the 934 specimens, 253 (27.1%) men were positive for any HPV and 82 men (8.8%) had genital warts. The ORs of HPV-6/11 detection in urine were 4.63 (95% CI: 1.68 to 12.78) and 40.20 (95% CI: 19.78 to 81.70) times higher among men who had proximal penile warts and distal penile warts, respectively, compared with men who did not have genital warts. Circumcised men were less likely to have high-risk HPV (OR 0.31; 95% CI: 0.14 to 0.65) than uncircumcised men. Uncircumcised men were more likely to have distal penile warts than circumcised men (OR 8.22; 95% CI: 1.34 to 337.46). CONCLUSION Positivity of HPV-6/11 in urine increases greatly in men with distal penile warts. Circumcised men are less likely to have distal penile warts, any HPV or high-risk HPV detected. Urine is likely to be an alternative sampling method for HPV-6/11 surveillance programme in men in countries with low circumcision rates.

Abstract
Research shows that vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the most effective methods for reducing risk for cervical cancer; it also protects against other HPV-related cancers. Controversies exist regarding HPV vaccination in several communities; which may in part explain why although rates of HPV vaccination are increasing nationwide, Los Angeles County (LAC) data show that many adolescents are still not vaccinated. These adolescents remain at high-risk for infection. Using community-based participatory principles, we conducted an environmental scan that included a literature review, the development of a community advisory board, community feedback from HPV community meetings, and interviews with stakeholders to understand attitudes toward HPV vaccination and their impact in follow through with HPV vaccines. Twenty-eight key stakeholders participated in our coalition comprised of community organizations and clinics with strong ties to the local community. This is the only coalition dedicated exclusively to improving HPV vaccine uptake in LAC. Of these, twenty-one participated in an environmental scan via qualitative interviews about HPV vaccination programs, service delivery priorities, and proposed steps to increase HPV vaccination uptake in LAC. The environmental scan revealed targets for future efforts, barriers to HPV uptake, and next steps for improving local HPV vaccination uptake rates. The environmental scan also identified local HPV vaccination interventions and resources. Although LAC has developed important efforts for vaccination, some interventions are no longer being implemented due to lack of funds; others have not been evaluated with sufficient outcome data. The risk for cervical and other HPV-related cancers could be greatly reduced in LAC if a multilevel, multicultural, and multilingual approach is taken to better understand rates of HPV vaccination uptake, particularly among racial/ethnic minorities and LGBTQ youth. Our environmental scan provides guidance on attitudes toward vaccination, and how best to address the needs of LAC families and providers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection is associated with the development of anogenital cancers, particularly in men living with HIV (MLWH). We describe the prevalence of anogenital HPV infection, abnormal anal cytology and anogenital warts (AGWs) in MLWH in Johannesburg, and explore whether HPV infection and receipt of antiretroviral treatment is associated with detection of abnormal anal cytology and AGWs. METHODS We enrolled a cohort of 304 sexually-active MLWH ≥18 years, who completed a questionnaire and physical examination. Genital swabs were collected from all men and intra-anal swabs from 250 (82%). Swabs were tested for HPV DNA and genotypes, and anal smears graded using the Bethesda classification. Factors associated with anogenital disease were assessed by logistic regression models. RESULTS Two thirds were receiving antiretroviral treatment, for a median 33 months (IQR = 15-58) and 54% were HIV-virologically suppressed. Only 5% reported ever having sex with men. Among 283 genital swabs with valid results, 79% had any HPV, 52% had HR-HPV and 27% had >1 HR-HPV infection. By comparison, 39% of the 227 valid intra-anal swabs had detectable HPV, 25% had any HR-HPV and 7% >1 HR infection. While most anal smears were normal (51%), 20% had ASCUS and 29% were LSIL. No cases had HSIL or cancer. Infection with >1 HR type (adjusted OR [aOR] = 2.39; 95%CI = 1.02-5.58) and alpha-9 types (aOR = 3.98; 95%CI = 1.42-11.16) were associated with having abnormal cytology. Prevalence of AGWs was 12%. Infection with any LR type (aOR = 41.28; 95%CI = 13.57-125.62), >1 LR type (aOR = 4.14; 95%CI = 1.60-10.69), being <6 months on antiretroviral treatment (aOR = 6.90; 95%CI = 1.63-29.20) and having a CD4+ count <200 cells/μL (aOR = 5.48; 95%CI: 1.60-18.78) were associated with having AGWs. CONCLUSIONS In this population, anogenital HR-HPV infection and associated low-grade disease is common, but severe anal dysplasia was not detected. Findings reinforce the need for HPV vaccination in men for preventing both AGWs and HR-HPV infection. Given the absence of anal HSILs, however, the findings do not support the use of anal screening programmes in this population.

Abstract
Male human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates remain very low. The study objective was to gain an understanding of the perceptions of HPV disease and acceptance/barriers to HPV vaccine by parents of boys aged 9 to 18 years. An anonymous, written survey was administered from January 1, 2011 to September 30, 2013 in private pediatric offices (PPOs) and public health clinics (PHCs) in Chicago, Illinois. A total of 230 PPO parents (PPOPs) and 286 PHC parents (PHCPs) completed the survey. Despite significant differences ( P < .0001) in education level, socioeconomic status, and HPV disease and vaccine knowledge/awareness between the PPOP and PHCP, there was no difference between PPOP and PHCP who would vaccinate their sons with HPV vaccine. For both groups, health care provider recommendation was the primary influence for vaccination. The major barrier to vaccination was lack of information on HPV disease/vaccine. Health care providers need to proactively discuss and use HPV vaccine in male patients.

Abstract
Background Web-based approaches, specifically social media sites, represent a promising approach for recruiting young gay and bisexual men for research studies. Little is known, however, about how the performance of social media advertisements (ads) used to recruit this population is affected by ad content (ie, image and text). Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different images and text included in social media ads used to recruit young gay and bisexual men for the pilot test of a Web-based human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination intervention. Methods In July and September 2016, we used paid Facebook advertisements to recruit men who were aged 18-25 years, self-identified as gay or bisexual, US resident, and had not received HPV vaccine. A 4x2x2 factorial experiment varied ad image (a single young adult male, a young adult male couple, a group of young adult men, or a young adult male talking to a doctor), content focus (text mentioning HPV or HPV vaccine), and disease framing (text mentioning cancer or a sexually transmitted disease [STD]). Poisson regression determined whether these experimental factors affected ad performance. Results The recruitment campaign reached a total of 35,646 users who viewed ads for 36,395 times. This resulted in an overall unique click-through rate of 2.01% (717/35,646) and an overall conversion rate of 0.66% (241/36,395). Reach was higher for ads that included an image of a couple (incidence rate ratio, IRR=4.91, 95% CI 2.68-8.97, P<.001) or a group (IRR=2.65, 95% CI 1.08-6.50, P=.03) compared with those that included an image of a single person. Ads that included an image of a couple also had a higher conversion rate (IRR=2.56, 95% CI 1.13-5.77, P=.02) than ads that included an image of a single person. Ads with text mentioning an STD had a higher unique click-through rate compared with ads with text mentioning cancer (IRR=1.34, 95% CI 1.06-1.69, P=.01). The campaign cost a total of US $413.72 and resulted in 150 eligible and enrolled individuals (US $2.76 per enrolled participant). Conclusions Facebook ads are a convenient and cost-efficient strategy for reaching and recruiting young gay and bisexual men for a Web-based HPV vaccination intervention. To help optimize ad performance among this population, researchers should consider the importance of the text and image included in the social media recruitment ads.

Abstract
Background: There is evidence of an interaction between HIV and human papillomavirus (HPV) resulting in increased HPV-associated morbidity and cancer mortality among HIV-positive women. This study aims to determine how the natural history of cervical HPV infection differs by HIV status.Methods: A total of 1,320 women (47% were positive for HIV-1 and/or HIV-2) were followed for an average of two years in Senegal, West Africa between 1994 and 2010. Cytology (with a sub-sample of histology) and HPV DNA testing were performed at approximately 4-month intervals yielding data from over 7,900 clinic visits. Competing risk modeling was used to estimate rates for transitioning between three clinically relevant natural history stages: Normal, HPV, and HSIL (high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions). Among HIV-positive women, exploratory univariate analyses were conducted examining the impact of HPV type, infection with multiple HPV types, HIV type, CD4+ count, and age.Results: HIV-positive women had higher rates of progression and lower rates of regression compared with HIV-negative women (i.e., adverse transitions). HIV-positive women had a 2.55 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.69-3.86; P < 0.0001] times higher rate of progression from HPV to HSIL than HIV-negative women (with 24-month absolute risks of 0.18 and 0.07, respectively). Among HIV-positive women, HPV-16/18 infection and CD4+ count <200/mm3 were associated with adverse transitions.Conclusions: Adverse HIV effects persist throughout HPV natural history stages.Impact: In the limited-resource setting of sub-Saharan Africa where cervical cancer screening is not widely available, the high-risk population of HIV-positive women may be ideal for targeted screening.
