Abstract
BACKGROUND Disrupted cellular communication, inflammatory responses and mitochondrial dysfunction are consistently observed in late-life depression (LLD). Exosomes (EXs) mediate cellular communication by transporting molecules, including mitochondrial DNA (EX-mtDNA), playing critical role in immunoregulation alongside tumor necrosis factor (TNF). Changes in EX-mtDNA are indicators of impaired mitochondrial function and might increase vulnerability to adverse health outcomes. Our study examined EX-mtDNA levels and integrity, exploring their associations with levels of TNF receptors I and II (TNFRI and TNFRII), and clinical outcomes in LLD. METHODS Ninety older adults (50 LLD and 40 controls (HC)) participated in the study. Blood was collected and exosomes were isolated using size-exclusion chromatography. DNA was extracted and EX-mtDNA levels and deletion were assessed using qPCR. Plasma TNFRI and TNFRII levels were quantified by multiplex immunoassay. Correlation analysis explored relationships between EX-mtDNA, clinical outcomes, and inflammatory markers. RESULTS Although no differences were observed in EX-mtDNA levels between groups, elevated levels correlated with poorer cognitive performance (r = -0.328, p = 0.002) and increased TNFRII levels (r = 0.367, p = 0.004). LLD exhibited higher deletion rates (F(83,1) = 4.402, p = 0.039), with a trend remaining after adjusting for covariates (p = 0.084). Deletion correlated with poorer cognitive performance (r = -0.335, p = 0.002). No other associations were found. LIMITATION Cross-sectional study with a small number of participants from a specialized geriatric psychiatry treatment center. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that EX-mtDNA holds promise as an indicator of cognitive outcomes in LLD. Additional research is needed to further comprehend the role of EX-mtDNA levels/integrity in LLD, paving the way for its clinical application in the future.

Abstract
Depression is a common mental disorder and its pathogenesis is not fully understood. However, more and more evidence shows that mitochondrial dynamics dysfunction may play an important role in the occurrence and development of depression. Mitochondria are the centre of energy production in cells, and are also involved in important processes such as apoptosis and oxidative stress. Studies have found that there are abnormalities in mitochondrial function in patients with depression, including mitochondrial morphological changes, mitochondrial dynamics disorders, mitochondrial DNA damage, and impaired mitochondrial respiratory chain function. These abnormalities may cause excessive free radicals and oxidative stress in mitochondria, which further damage cells and affect the balance of neurotransmitters, causing or aggravating depressive symptoms. Studies have shown that mitochondrial dynamics dysfunction may participate in the occurrence and development of depression by affecting neuroplasticity, inflammation and neurotransmitters. This article reviews the effects of mitochondrial dynamics dysfunction on the pathogenesis of depression and its potential molecular pathway. The restorers for the treatment of depression by regulating the function of mitochondrial dynamics were summarized and the possibility of using mitochondrial dynamics as a biomarker of depression was discussed.

Abstract
Background: Little is known about the prevalence of cellular senescence among immune cells (i.e., immune cells expressing senescence markers, iSCs) nor is there a gold-standard to efficiently measure iSCs. Major depressive disorder (MDD) in older adults has been associated with many hallmarks of senescence in whole blood, leukocytes, and plasma, supporting a strong connection between iSCs and MDD. Here, we investigated the prevalence and phenotype of iSCs in older adults with MDD. Using a single-cell phenotypic approach, circulating immune cells were examined for iSC biomarkers and their relationship to depression and inflammation. Results: PBMCs from older adults with MDD (aged 69.75 ± 5.23 years) and healthy controls (aged 71.25 ± 8.8 years) were examined for immune subset distribution and senescence biomarkers (i.e., lack of proliferation, senescence-associated heterochromatin foci (SAHF), and DNA damage). Dual-expression of SAHF and DNA damage was categorized by low, intermediate, and high expression. A significant increase in the number of high expressing total PBMCs (p = 0.01), monocytes (p = 0.008), a trending increase in the number of high expressing CD4 T cells (p = 0.06) was observed overall in those with MDD. There was also a significantly lower proportion of intermediate expressing cells in monocytes and CD4 T cells in MDD (p = 0.01 and p = 0.05, respectively). Correlation analysis revealed associations between iSCs and mRNA expression of factors related to SASP and immune cell function. Conclusion: MDD is associated with increased senescent cell biomarkers in immune cell populations delineated by distinct levels of SAHF and DNA damage. Inflammatory markers might serve as potent indicators of iSC burden in MDD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess the correlation between the circulating cell-free mitochondria DNA and inflammation factors in noninfectious disease by meta-analysis of data from eligible studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS Through a comprehensive searching of pubmed, embase, web of science, cochrane from establishment of the database to October 31, 2022, studies were selected that investigated the association of circulating cell free mitochondria DNA with inflammatory factors in non-infectious diseases. Studies that met the inclusion criteria and were published in English or Chinese were included. Data of each correlation coefficients were extracted from the paper and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Sensitivity and heterogeneity tests were carried out for each data. RESULTS A total of 660 articles were retrieved and 22 were included in this meta-analysis, including 2600 patients. A fixed effects model was employed to examine ISS and IL-8, others were analyzed using random effects models. The correlation coefficient between mtDNA and ISS score was 0.37 (95%CI = [0.232;0.494]), p<0.0001, heterogeneity I2 = 46%, p = 0.11). The correlation coefficients between mtDNA and inflammatory factors are as follows: TNFα, 0.405 [(95%CI = [0.253;0.538], p<0.0001, heterogeneity I2 = 77%, p = 0.0001]. IL-6, 0.469 [(95%CI = [0.296;0.612]), p = 0.0001, heterogeneity I2 = 93%, p<0.0001]. CRP, 0.333[(95%CI = [0.149;0.494]), p = 0.005, heterogeneity I2 = 85%, p<0.0001]. IL-8, 0.343[(95%CI = [0.233;0.524]), p = 0.001, heterogeneity I2 = 50%, p = 0.09]. PCT, 0.333 [(95%CI = [0.06;0.64]), p = 0.09,heterogeneity I2 = 64%,p = 0.06]. There were no significant publication bias for TNFα, IL-6 and CRP. CONSLUSION Circulating cell free mtDNA was moderate positively correlated with the expression of inflammatory factors and the degree of trauma.

Abstract
Circulating cell-free mitochondrial DNA (ccf-mtDNA) is a biomarker of cellular injury or cellular stress and is a potential novel biomarker of psychological stress and of various brain, somatic, and psychiatric disorders. No studies have yet analyzed ccf-mtDNA levels in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), despite evidence of mitochondrial dysfunction in this condition. In the current study, we compared plasma ccf-mtDNA levels in combat trauma-exposed male veterans with PTSD (n = 111) with those who did not develop PTSD (n = 121) and also investigated the relationship between ccf mt-DNA levels and glucocorticoid sensitivity. In unadjusted analyses, ccf-mtDNA levels did not differ significantly between the PTSD and non-PTSD groups (t = 1.312, p = 0.191, Cohen's d = 0.172). In a sensitivity analysis excluding participants with diabetes and those using antidepressant medication and controlling for age, the PTSD group had lower ccf-mtDNA levels than did the non-PTSD group (F(1, 179) = 5.971, p = 0.016, partial η2 = 0.033). Across the entire sample, ccf-mtDNA levels were negatively correlated with post-dexamethasone adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) decline (r = -0.171, p = 0.020) and cortisol decline (r = -0.149, p = 0.034) (viz., greater ACTH and cortisol suppression was associated with lower ccf-mtDNA levels) both with and without controlling for age, antidepressant status and diabetes status. Ccf-mtDNA levels were also significantly positively associated with IC50-DEX (the concentration of dexamethasone at which 50% of lysozyme activity is inhibited), a measure of lymphocyte glucocorticoid sensitivity, after controlling for age, antidepressant status, and diabetes status (β = 0.142, p = 0.038), suggesting that increased lymphocyte glucocorticoid sensitivity is associated with lower ccf-mtDNA levels. Although no overall group differences were found in unadjusted analyses, excluding subjects with diabetes and those taking antidepressants, which may affect ccf-mtDNA levels, as well as controlling for age, revealed decreased ccf-mtDNA levels in PTSD. In both adjusted and unadjusted analyses, low ccf-mtDNA levels were associated with relatively increased glucocorticoid sensitivity, often reported in PTSD, suggesting a link between mitochondrial and glucocorticoid-related abnormalities in PTSD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Mitochondrial dysfunction is implicated in the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders. Levels of circulating cell-free mitochondrial DNA (cf-mtDNA) are observed to be altered in depression. However, the few studies that have measured cf-mtDNA in depression have reported conflicting findings. This study examined cf-mtDNA and depressive symptoms in low-active adults who smoke. METHODS Participants were adults 18 to 65 years old ( N = 109; 76% female) with low baseline physical activity and depressive symptoms recruited for a smoking cessation study. Self-report measures assessed depression severity, positive and negative affect, and behavioral activation. Blood was collected and analyzed for cf-mtDNA. Relationships between depressive symptoms and cf-mtDNA were examined with correlations and linear regression. RESULTS Levels of cf-mtDNA were associated with categorically defined depression (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale score >15), lower positive affect, and decreased behavioral activation ( p < .05). Relationships remained significant after adjustment for age, sex, and nicotine dependence. In a linear regression model including all depressive symptom measures as predictors, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale group and lower positive affect remained significant. CONCLUSIONS This work suggests that mitochondrial changes are associated with depressive symptoms in low-active adults who smoke. Higher levels of cf-mtDNA in association with depression and with lower positive affect and decreased behavioral activation are consistent with a possible role for mitochondrial function in depressive symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mitochondrial dysfunction leading to disturbances in energy metabolism has emerged as one of the risk factors in the pathogenesis of depression. Numerous studies have identified alterations in the content of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in peripheral blood and cerebrospinal fluid of individuals with depression. Researchers have sought to establish a clear association between mtDNA and depression. Consequently, we conducted a comprehensive meta-analysis to assess the existing evidence regarding the impact of mtDNA on depression. METHODS This study conducted a thorough search of the following databases up to March 13, 2023: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, the Web of Science, Wanfang Database, SINOMED, the China Science and Technology Journal Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The meta-analysis was carried out using RevMan (version 5.4) and Stata (version 16.0) software. In addition, publication bias was assessed with funnel plots, Begg's test and Egger's test. RESULTS Our analysis included data from 10 articles, including 12 studies for further examination. A total of 1400 participants were included in this study, comprising 709 (including 300 males and 409 females) patients with depression and 691 (including 303 males and 388 females) healthy controls. The average age of depressed patients was (42.98 ± 2.55) years, and the average age of healthy people was (41.71 ± 2.6) years. The scales used to assess outcomes are Hamilton-rating scale for Depression(4 articles), Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale(3 articles), and Mini-Internatioal Neuropsychiatric Interview (1 articles). The meta-analysis revealed significantly higher levels of mtDNA in circulating blood samples and skin fibroblasts of individuals with depression in comparison to healthy controls [standardized mean difference(SMD) = 0.42, 95% confidence intervals(CI): 0.16, 0.67]. CONCLUSIONS Our study concludes that there is a significant (p < 0.05) increase in mtDNA levels in serum, plasma, and cerebrospinal fluid in individuals with depression. These findings suggest that mtDNA could serve as a potential biomarker for diagnosing depression. REGISTRATION NUMBER PROSPERO CRD42023414285.

Abstract
Extracellular Genomic Materials (EGMs) are the nucleic acids secreted or released from all types of cells by endogenous or exogenous stimuli through varying mechanisms into the extracellular region and inevitably to all biological fluids. EGMs could be found as free, protein-bound, and/ or with vesicles. EGMs can potentially have immunophenotypic and/or genotypic characteristics of a cell of origin, travel to distant organs, and interact with the new microenvironment. To achieve all, EGMs might bi-directionally transit through varying membranes, including the blood-brain barrier. Such ability provides the transfer of any information related to the pathophysiological changes in psychiatric disorders in the brain to the other distant organ systems or vice versa. In this article, many aspects of EGMs have been elegantly reviewed, including their potential in diagnosis as biomarkers, application in treatment modalities, and functional effects in the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders. The psychiatric disorders were studied under subgroups of Schizophrenia spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, and an autism spectrum disorders. EGMs provide a robust and promising tool in clinics for prognosis and diagnosis. The successful application of EGMs into treatment modalities might further provide encouraging outcomes for researchers and clinicians in psychiatric disorders.

Abstract
Common mental disorders (CMDs) such as depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorders account for 40% of the global burden of disease. In most psychiatric disorders, both diagnosis and monitoring can be challenging, frequently requiring long-term investigation and follow-up. The discovery of better methods to facilitate accurate and fast diagnosis and monitoring of psychiatric disorders is therefore crucial. Circulating nucleic acids (CNAs) are among these new tools. CNAs (DNA or RNA) can be found circulating in body biofluids, and can be isolated from biological samples such as plasma. They can serve as biomarkers for diagnosis and prognoses. They appear to be promising for disorders (such as psychiatric disorders) that involve organs or structures that are difficult to assess. This review presents an accurate assessment of the current literature about the use of plasma and serum cell-free DNA (cfDNA) as biomarkers for several aspects of psychiatric disorders: diagnosis, prognosis, treatment response, and monitor disease progression. For each psychiatric disorder, we examine the effect sizes to give insights on the efficacy of CNAs as biomarkers. The global effect size for plasma nuclear and mitochondrial cfDNA studies was generally moderate for psychiatric disorders. In addition, we discuss future applications of CNAs and particularly cfDNA as non-invasive biomarkers for these diseases.

Abstract
Adolescence is often a challenging time in which psychiatric issues have a strong connection to mental health disorders later in life. The early identification of the problems can reduce the burden of disease. To date, the effective identification of adolescents at risk of developing mental health problems remains understudied. Altogether, the interaction between circulating cell-free mtDNA (ccf-mtDNA) and inflammatory cytokines in adolescents is insufficiently understood regarding experienced mental health difficulties. Our study selected the participants based on the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire (SDQ) score using the cut-off points of 3 and 18 for the low and the high score groups, respectively. The answers of the SDQ at the age of 12.2-15.7 years contributed to the investigation of (i) whether ccf-mtDNA units are associated with cytokines, and (ii) if an interaction model for predicting risk of mental health issues is observed. We discovered a sex-specific correlation between the screened markers associated with mental health problems in the low and high SDQ score groups among the male participants and in the low SDQ score group among the female participants. The mitochondrial MT-ND4 and MT-CO1 genes correlated significantly with interleukin-12p70 (IL-12p70) in males and with monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) in females. Due to the nature of the explorative study, the studied markers alone did not indicate statistical significance for the prediction of mental health problems. Our analysis provided new insight into potential plasma-based biomarkers to predict mental health issues.

Abstract
The cell-free DNA (cfDNA) levels are known to increase in biological fluids in various pathological conditions. However, the data on circulating cfDNA in severe psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (BD), and depressive disorders (DDs), is contradictory. This meta-analysis aimed to analyze the concentrations of different cfDNA types in schizophrenia, BD, and DDs compared with healthy donors. The mitochondrial (cf-mtDNA), genomic (cf-gDNA), and total cfDNA concentrations were analyzed separately. The effect size was estimated using the standardized mean difference (SMD). Eight reports for schizophrenia, four for BD, and five for DDs were included in the meta-analysis. However, there were only enough data to analyze the total cfDNA and cf-gDNA in schizophrenia and cf-mtDNA in BD and DDs. It has been shown that the levels of total cfDNA and cf-gDNA in patients with schizophrenia are significantly higher than in healthy donors (SMD values of 0.61 and 0.6, respectively; p < 0.00001). Conversely, the levels of cf-mtDNA in BD and DDs do not differ compared with healthy individuals. Nevertheless, further research is needed in the case of BD and DDs due to the small sample sizes in the BD studies and the significant data heterogeneity in the DD studies. Additionally, further studies are needed on cf-mtDNA in schizophrenia or cf-gDNA and total cfDNA in BD and DDs due to insufficient data. In conclusion, this meta-analysis provides the first evidence of increases in total cfDNA and cf-gDNA in schizophrenia but shows no changes in cf-mtDNA in BD and DDs. Increased circulating cfDNA in schizophrenia may be associated with chronic systemic inflammation, as cfDNA has been found to trigger inflammatory responses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The bidirectional relationship between sleep disturbances and depression is well documented, yet the biology of sleep is not fully understood. Mitochondria have become of interest not only because of the connection between sleep and metabolism but also because of mitochondria's involvement in the production of reactive oxygen species, which are largely scavenged during sleep. METHODS Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of eight accelerometry-derived sleep measures were performed across both the autosomal and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) among two severity levels of depression in UK Biobank participants. We calculated SNP heritability for each of the sleep measures. Linear regression was performed to test associations and mitochondrial haplogroups. RESULTS Variants included in the GWAS accounted for moderate heritability of bedtime (19.6%, p = 4.75 × 10-7), sleep duration (16.6%, p = 8.58 × 10-6) and duration of longest sleep bout (22.6%, p = 4.64 × 10-4). No variants passed genome-wide significance in the autosomal genome. The top hit in the severe depression sample was rs145019802, near GOLGA8B, for sleep efficiency (p = 1.17 × 10-7), and the top hit in the broad depression sample was rs7100859, an intergenic SNP, and nap duration (p = 1.25 × 10-7). Top mtDNA loci were m.12633C > A of MT-ND5 with bedtime (p = 0.002) in the severe sample and m.16186C > T of the control region with nap duration (p = 0.002) in the broad sample. CONCLUSION SNP heritability estimates support the involvement of common SNPs in specific sleep measures among depressed individuals. This is the first study to analyze mtDNA variance in sleep measures in depressed individuals. Our mtDNA findings, although nominally significant, provide preliminary suggestion that mitochondria are involved in sleep.

Abstract
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is characterized by psychological and physiological manifestations contributing to the disease severity and outcome. In recent years, several lines of evidence have suggested that individuals with MDD have an elevated risk of age-related adverse outcomes across the lifespan. This review provided evidence of a significant overlap between the biological abnormalities in MDD and biological changes commonly observed during the aging process (i.e., hallmarks of biological aging). Based on such evidence, we formulate a mechanistic model showing how abnormalities in the hallmarks of biological aging can be a common denominator and mediate the elevated risk of age-related health outcomes commonly observed in MDD. Finally, we proposed a roadmap for novel studies to investigate the intersection between the biology of aging and MDD, including the use of geroscience-guided interventions, such as senolytics, to delay or improve major depression by targeting biological aging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Major depressive disorder (MDD) involves peripheral low-grade pro-inflammatory activity. This multi-biomarker case-control study characterises the proinflammatory status in MDD beyond C-reactive protein (CRP) and Interleukin (IL)-6 levels through investigating concomitant alterations of immunoregulatory biomolecules. METHODS In 20 female MDD patients and 24 non-depressed women, circulating levels of CRP, IL-6, cortisol, selected endocannabinoids (ECs; anandamide [AEA], 2-arachidonylglycerol [2-AG]), and N-acylethanolamines (NAEs), as well as circulating cell-free mitochondrial DNA (ccf-mtDNA) were measured. RESULTS We found higher serum CRP and plasma AEA levels in MDD and a positive association of CRP and AEA levels with current depressive symptoms. Blood levels of cortisol, ccf-mtDNA, 2-AG, and NAEs did depend on MDD diagnosis nor correlated with the severity of current depressive symptoms. CRP correlated positively with AEA, and AEA showed positive associations with 2-AG and NAE levels. CONCLUSIONS In this study, female MDD outpatients with mild to moderate disorder severity did not substantially differ from non-depressed controls in the resting levels of multiple immunoregulatory markers in peripheral blood. Instead of investigating resting levels, future research on the role of inflammatory activity in MDD should focus on investigating the reactivity of pathways modulating the immune system upon exposure to physical and psychosocial stressors.

Abstract
Objectives Associations between cognitive decline and depression have been inconclusive. We examined 1) whether sleep quality mediates these relationships and 2) which factor of sleep quality mediates these relationships. Methods This study utilized baseline data from the 2018 West China Health and Aging Trend study (WCHAT), a large cohort data-set that including participants aged over 50 years old. We defined depression using the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15). Cognitive status was measured using the Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ) and sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). Direct relationships between cognitive decline, sleep quality and depression were assessed using multiple linear regression. Mediation models and structural equation model (SEM) pathway analysis were used to test the mediating role of specific aspects of sleep (e.g., quality, duration) in the relationship between cognitive decline and depression. Results Of 6828 participants aged 50 years old or older, the proportion of depression was 17.4%. Regression analysis indicated a total association between cognitive scores (β = 0.251, 95% CI 0.211 to 0.290, p < 0.001) and depression status. After adjusted PSQI scores, the association between cognitive scores and depression status was still significant (β = 0.242, 95% CI 0.203 to 0.281, p < 0.001), indicating a partial mediation effect of sleep quality. Mediation analysis verified sleep quality partially mediate the associations between cognitive decline and depression (indirect effect estimate = 0.0308, bootstrap 95% CI 0.023 to 0.040; direct effect estimate = 0.3124, bootstrap 95% CI 0.269 to 0.350). And daytime dysfunction had a highest mediation effect with a proportion of mediation up to 14.6%. Conclusions Sleep quality partially mediated the relationship between cognitive decline and depression. Daytime dysfunction had a highest mediation effect. Further research is necessary to examine the effects of sleep quality on the relationship of cognitive decline and depression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the circulating cell-free mitochondrial DNA (ccf-mtDNA) levels, a marker of cellular stress and damage, in older adults with late-life depression (LLD) and frailty. We hypothesize that individuals with both frailty and LLD will have higher ccf-mtDNA levels than individuals with either condition in isolation. METHODS Fifty-three older adults (Never Depressed+Robust (reference group, n = 16), LLD+Robust (n = 9), Never Depressed+Prefrail/Frail (n = 5), and LLD+Prefrail/Frail (n = 23)) were included in the study. DNA was extracted from EDTA plasma samples, and ccf-mtDNA was quantified by RT-PCR. RESULTS We found a statistically significant difference in the levels of ccf-mtDNA across groups (F(3,49) = 3.07, p = 0.036), with individuals in the LLD+Prefrail/Frail group showing the highest levels of ccf-mtDNA. CONCLUSION The coexistence of LLD and frailty is associated with increased markers of cellular damage and stress (i.e., ccf-mtDNA). Our results suggest that these conditions may share cellular stress and mitochondrial dysfunction phenomena as a common biological mechanism, offering potential future opportunities for geroscience-guided interventions for these conditions.

Abstract
Ammonia nitrogen has been one of the key pollution indicators along the Chinese coastline for quite a few years. Our previous studies have proved that ammonia nitrogen is harmful for Ruditapes philippinarum clam in several aspects. Environmental concentrations of ammonia nitrogen were found to significantly decrease ATP contents and disturb ATP metabolism, in addition to reducing the potential across the mitochondrial membrane in clam gill tissues. Accordingly, mitochondrion is considered as one of the target organelles of ammonia nitrogen toxicity in clams. However, there is a lack of direct evidence to prove it. In order to reveal detail information of ammonia nitrogen toxicity on clam mitochondria and screen the related biomarker to indicate ammonia nitrogen pollution, mitochondrial parameters in gill tissues including swelling, mtDNA copy number and marker enzyme (succinic dehydrogenase, SDH) activity were measured after the clams were exposed to 0.1 mg/L and 0.5 mg/L ammonia nitrogen for 3 days and 21 days, respectively. Moreover, adverse effects of ammonia nitrogen exposure on clam mitochondrial ultra-structures, mitochondrial swelling and division were also discriminated under transmission electron microscope (TEM). Final results showed that ammonia nitrogen exposure to both concentrations significantly induced mitochondrial swelling, reduced the number of mitochondria and messed their normal structure, decreased the number of mtDNA copies and down-regulated SDH activity, all in a concentration and duration dependent manner. So, the present study helps us to better understand the structural damage of ammonia nitrogen on mitochondria in clam gill cells and provides fundamental data for ammonia nitrogen control in aquaculture.
