Abstract
It is a well-known fact that dietary fiber is recognized as one of the essential components of a healthy diet. The aim of this paper was to investigate the impact of dietary fiber on the incidence and mortality of various types of cancer, the current evidence in this field, and the biases of this evidence using the meta-meta-analysis method. We identified meta-analyses that particularly focused on the association between dietary fiber consumption and the risk/mortality of cancer. A structured and comprehensive computer literature search was undertaken in the electronic databases PubMed/Medline, Web of Science (WoS), and Scopus. The search yielded a total of 25 papers and 28 reports. In the pooled analysis, higher dietary fiber consumption was associated with a 22% lower cancer risk (OR = 0.78, 95% CI: 0.74-0.83, p < 0.001) and a 17% lower mortality (RR = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.78-0.90, p < 0.001). In the secondary meta-meta-analysis, it was observed that there was an inverse association between dietary fiber intake and digestive tract cancers (OR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.62-0.76) and breast cancer (OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.90-0.94). Taken together, this paper suggests that promoting a high-fiber diet may be an effective strategy for the prevention and management of cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the relation between a diabetes risk reduction diet (DRRD) and ovarian cancer. METHODS We used data from a multicentric case-control study conducted in Italy, including 1031 incident ovarian cancer cases and 2411 controls admitted to hospital centres for acute non-malignant disease. Subjects' diet prior to hospital admission was collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Adherence to the DRRD was measured using a score based on 8 dietary components, giving higher scores for greater intakes of cereal fiber, coffee, fruit, nuts, higher polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acids ratio, lower glycemic index of diet, and lower intakes of red/processed meat, and sweetened beverages/and fruit juices. Higher scores indicated greater adherence to the DRRD. Multiple logistic regression models were fitted to calculate the odds ratios (OR) of ovarian cancer and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) for approximate quartiles of the DRRD score. RESULTS The DRRD score was inversely related to ovarian cancer, with an OR of 0.76 (95%CI: 0.60-0.95) for the highest versus the lowest quartile of the score (p for trend = 0.022). The exclusion of women with diabetes did not change the results (OR = 0.75, 95%CI: 0.59-0.95). Inverse associations were observed in strata of age, education, parity, menopausal status, and family history of ovarian/breast cancer. CONCLUSION Higher adherence to a diet aimed at reducing the risk of diabetes was inversely associated with ovarian cancer. Further evidence from prospective investigations will be useful to support our findings.

Abstract
Given the challenges with achieving effective and durable treatment for epithelial ovarian cancer, primary prevention is highly desirable. Fortunately, decades of research have provided evidence for several strategies that can be deployed to optimize risk reduction. These include surgery, chemoprevention, and lifestyle factor modifications. These broad categories vary in terms of the magnitude of risk reduction possible, the possible short-term and long-term side effects, the degree of difficulty, and acceptability. Thus, the concept of a risk-based model to personalize preventive interventions is advocated to guide discussion between care providers and women at risk. For women with inherited major gene mutations that greatly increase risk of ovarian cancer, surgical approaches have favorable risk to benefit ratios. Chemoprevention and lifestyle factor modifications portend a lower degree of risk reduction but confer lower risk of undesirable side effects. Since complete prevention is not currently possible, better methods for early detection remain a high priority.

Abstract
Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the potential association between dietary fiber intakes and the prevalence of chronic inflammatory airway diseases (CIAD), as well as mortality in participants with CIAD. Methods Data was collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2018, with dietary fiber intakes being calculated as the average of two 24-h dietary reviews and divided into four groups. CIAD included self-reported asthma, chronic bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Through December 31, 2019, mortality was identified from the National Death Index. In cross-sectional studies, multiple logistic regressions were used to assess dietary fiber intakes associated with the prevalence of total and specific CIAD. Dose-response relationships were tested using restricted cubic spline regression. In prospective cohort studies, cumulative survival rates were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using log-rank tests. Multiple COX regressions were used to assess dietary fiber intakes associated with mortality in participants with CIAD. Results A total of 12,276 adults were included in this analysis. The participants had a mean age of 50.70 ± 17.4 years and was 47.2% male. The prevalence of CIAD, asthma, chronic bronchitis, and COPD were 20.1, 15.2, 6.3, and 4.2%, respectively. The median daily consumption of dietary fiber was 15.1 [IQR 10.5, 21.1] g. After adjusting for all confounding factors, linear and negative associations were observed between dietary fiber intakes and the prevalence of total CIAD (OR = 0.68 [0.58-0.80]), asthma (OR = 0.71 [0.60-0.85]), chronic bronchitis (OR = 0.57 [0.43-0.74]) and COPD (OR = 0.51 [0.34-0.74]). In addition, the fourth quartile of dietary fiber intake levels remained significantly associated with a decreased risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 0.47 [0.26-0.83]) compared to the first quartile. Conclusion Dietary fiber intakes were found to be correlated with the prevalence of CIAD, and higher dietary fiber intakes were associated with a reduced mortality in participants with CIAD.

Abstract
Background: The association between the ratio of fiber to carbohydrate (F : C-R) and cancer mortality is not currently well-known. We prospectively evaluated for the first time the aforementioned topic among ovarian cancer (OC) patients. Methods: A total of 703 newly diagnosed OC patients aged 18-79 years were included. Pre-diagnosis diet intake details were collected with a validated food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained until March 31, 2021, based on medical records and the cancer registry. Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) between pre-diagnostic fiber, carbohydrate, and F : C-R intake and OC mortality. Restricted cubic splines were used to analyze the potential nonlinear relationship between F : C-R and OC mortality. Results: During the follow-up period (median: 37.2 months; interquartile: 24.7-50.2 months), we observed 130 (18.49%) OC patients died. The pre-diagnosis higher fiber intake (comparing the highest with the lowest tertile of intake: HR = 0.56, 95% CI = 0.35-0.92; HR per 1 SD increment: 0.78, 95% CI = 0.64-0.96; P trend < 0.05) and higher F : C-R intake (comparing the highest with the lowest tertile of intake: HR = 0.51, 95% CI = 0.31-0.85; HR per 1-SD increment: 0.73; 95% CI = 0.59-0.91; P trend < 0.05) were significantly associated with lower mortality for OC patients, but no evidence of the association between pre-diagnosis carbohydrate intake and OC mortality was observed. We found no evidence of a nonlinear relationship between F : C-R and OC mortality. Significant inverse associations were also observed for subgroup analyses stratified by age at diagnosis, menopausal status, residual lesions, histological type, FIGO stage, and body mass index, although not all associations showed statistical significance. Conclusion: Pre-diagnosis high fiber intake and high F : C-R diet intake were associated with a decreased risk of OC mortality.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the level of evidence on the association between food groups/items consumption and the risk of different cancer sites from the meta-analyses/pooled analyses of observational studies. A systematic search was executed in Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, and Web of Science. The criteria from the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) Expert Report were adopted for evidence grading. In summary, there was convincing evidence for the association between fibre intake and decreased risk of colon and breast cancer. Also, consumption of dairy products, milk, fruits, and fibre was associated with a probable decreased risk of breast cancer. Consumption of whole grains, dairy products, milk, fruits, vegetables, and fibre had a probable inverse association with the incidence risk of gastrointestinal tract cancers. More qualified studies are needed to find reliable findings on the association between various food groups/items consumption and the risk of different cancer sites.

Abstract
Several non-genetic factors have been associated with ovarian cancer incidence or mortality. To evaluate the strength and validity of the evidence we conducted an umbrella review of the literature that included systematic reviews/meta-analyses that evaluated the link between non-genetic risk factors and ovarian cancer incidence and mortality. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and performed a manual screening of references. Evidence was graded into strong, highly suggestive, suggestive or weak based on statistical significance of the random effects summary estimate and the largest study in a meta-analysis, the number of cases, between-study heterogeneity, 95% prediction intervals, small study effects, and presence of excess significance bias. We identified 212 meta-analyses, investigating 55 non-genetic risk factors for ovarian cancer. Risk factors were grouped in eight broad categories: anthropometric indices, dietary intake, physical activity, pre-existing medical conditions, past drug history, biochemical markers, past gynaecological history and smoking. Of the 174 meta-analyses of cohort studies assessing 44 factors, six associations were graded with strong evidence. Greater height (RR per 10 cm 1.16, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.11-1.20), body mass index (BMI) (RR ≥ 30 kg/m2 versus normal 1.27, 95% CI 1.17-1.38) and three exposures of varying preparations and usage related to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) use increased the risk of developing ovarian cancer. Use of oral contraceptive pill reduced the risk (RR 0.74, 95% CI 0.69-0.80). Refining the significance of genuine risk factors for the development of ovarian cancer may potentially increase awareness in women at risk, aid prevention and early detection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Poor diet quality has been associated with an increased risk of cancer. Here, we examine the association between dietary patterns derived with two methods, and combined and site-specific cancer incidence in Canada. SUBJECTS/METHODS Dietary data were obtained from participants enrolled in Alberta's Tomorrow Project, a prospective cohort study, between 2000 and 2008. Principle component analysis (PCA) and reduced rank regression (RRR) were used to derive dietary patterns, and data linkage with the Alberta Cancer Registry was used for incident cancer cases. Cox proportional hazard regressions were used to estimate multivariable-adjusted models for the association between each dietary pattern score with combined and site-specific cancer incidence. RESULTS PCA revealed three dietary patterns ("western", "prudent", and "sugar, fruits, and dairy") and RRR resulted in four patterns ("dietary fiber", "vitamin D", "fructose", and "discretionary fat"). Five cancer sites were included in our site-specific analysis: lung, colon, breast, prostate, and endometrial cancers. The most protective dietary patterns for combined cancer sites were the "Prudent" pattern (HR = 0.82, CI = 0.73-0.92) and the "Dietary fiber" pattern (HR = 0.82, CI = 0.69-0.97). The "Fructose" pattern was associated with increased risk of combined cancers (HR = 1.14, CI = 1.02-1.27). Three dietary patterns were protective against colon cancer ("Prudent", "Dietary fiber", and "Discretionary fats"), and other risk reductions were seen for the "sugar, fruit, and dairy" pattern (lung cancer), and the "Dietary fiber" pattern (prostate cancer). CONCLUSIONS These results support cancer prevention strategies for a diet high in vegetables, fruits, fish, and whole grains. Abstract
Plant polyphenols have an array of health benefits primarily thought to be related to their high content of anti-oxidants. These are commonly undervalued and knowledge of their biological properties have grown exponentially in the last decade. Polyphenol-rich sugarcane extract (PRSE), a natural extract from sugar cane, is marketed as high in anti-oxidants and polyphenols, but its anti-cancer activity has not been reported previously. We show that, PRSE exerts anti-cancer properties on a range of cancer cells including human (LIM2045) and mouse (MC38, CT26) colon cancer cells lines; human lung cancer (A549), human ovarian cancer (SKOV-3), pro-monocytic human leukemia (U937) and to mouse melanoma (B16) cell lines; whereas no effects were noted on human breast (ZR-75-1) and human colon (HT29) cancer cell lines, as well as to human normal colon epithelial cell line (T4056). Anti-proliferative effects were shown to be mediated via alteration in cytokines, VEGF-1 and NF-κB expression.

Abstract
Simple Summary According to a report from International Diabetes Federation, in 2020 approximately 463 million adults (20–79 years) were living with diabetes, the principles of medical nutrition therapy are to decrease the risk of diabetes by encouraging healthy food choices and physical activity. Djulis is a unique traditional pseudo-cereal crop native to Taiwan. The hull of djulis, which is usually considered to be agricultural waste, is disposed of in landfills and causes some environmental problems. In recent years, many studies have investigated the functional properties of djulis hull. The focus has been on the byproducts of djulis, a waste utilization approach, to further develop enriched functional foods. Djulis hull contained dietary fibre 75.21 ± 0.17% dry weight, and insoluble dietary fibre (IDF) reached 71.54 ± 0.27% dry weight. The IDF postponed the adsorption of glucose and reduced the activity of α-amylase. We found that it is a good source of valuable ingredients that contain a high amount of dietary fibre. Furthermore, for patients with T2DM, consuming djulis hull 30 and 60 min before a meal significantly reduced blood glucose content as compared with patients at the same postprandial times who did not consume it. Abstract Djulis (Chenopodium formosanum Koidz.) is a species of cereal grain native to Taiwan. It is rich in dietary fibre and antioxidants and therefore reputed to relieve constipation, suppress inflammation, and lower blood glucose. The aim of this study was to investigate the composition and physicochemical properties of dietary fibre from djulis hull. Meanwhile, determination of the in vivo antidiabetic effect on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) after consuming the djulis hull powder. Djulis hull contained dietary fibre 75.21 ± 0.17% dry weight, and insoluble dietary fibre (IDF) reached 71.54 ± 0.27% dry weight. The IDF postponed the adsorption of glucose and reduced the activity of α-amylase. Postprandial blood glucose levels in patients with T2DM showed three different tendencies. First, the area under the glucose curve was significantly lower after ingesting 10 or 5 g djulis hull powder, which then postponed the adsorption of glucose, but the area under the glucose curve was similar with the two doses. After consuming 10 g djulis hull before 75 g glucose 30 and 60 min after the meal, patients with T2DM had blood glucose values that were significantly lower at the same postprandial times than those of patients who did not consume djulis hull. In short, patients who consumed djulis hull prior to glucose administration had decreased blood glucose level compared with those who did not. Djulis hull may have benefits for patients with T2DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Diet may play an important role in the etiology of ovarian cancer (OC). We aimed to evaluate the strength and credibility of evidence pertaining to dietary risk factors for OC. METHODS We comprehensively searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, CINAHL, JBI Database of Systematic Reviews and Implementation Reports, PROSPERO and EMBASE databases to identify related systematic reviews and meta-analyses of prospective cohort studies. This study had been registered at PROSPERO. The registration number is CRD42020187651. For each association, we estimated the summary effect size using fixed and random effects models, the 95% confidence interval and the 95% prediction interval. We assessed heterogeneity, evidence of small-study effects, and excess significance bias. RESULTS A total of 22 systematic reviews and meta-analyses were included in the present study. These previous reports evaluated 184 individual studies, which proposed a total of 36 associations between dietary factors and OC risk. Out of the 36 associations, there were no strong, highly suggestive and suggestive evidence, only four (black tea, skim/low-fat milk, lactose, and calcium) were determined to be supported by weak evidence. OC risk was inversely associated with intake of black tea or calcium, and positively associated with intake of skim/low-fat milk or lactose. CONCLUSIONS Our studies revealed that four associations between OC risk and dietary factors (black tea, skim/low-fat milk, lactose, and calcium) were supported by weak evidence. The remaining 32 associations were not confirmed. Additional studies are needed to carefully evaluate the relationship between dietary factors and OC risk.

Abstract
PURPOSE It is unclear how dietary intake influences the ovarian cancer. The present paper sets out to systematically review and meta-analyze research on dietary intake to identify cases having high- or low-risk ovarian cancer. METHODS Scopus, PubMed, and Wiley Online Libraries were searched up to the date November 24, 2019. Two reviewers were requested to independently extract study characteristics and to assess the bias and applicability risks with reference to the study inclusion criteria. Meta-analyses were performed to specify the relationship between dietary intake and the risk of ovarian cancer identifying 97 cohort studies. RESULTS No significant association was found between dietary intake and risk of ovarian cancer. The results of subgroup analyses indicated that green leafy vegetables (RR = 0.91, 95%, 0.85-0.98), allium vegetables (RR = 0.79, 95% CI 0.64-0.96), fiber (RR = 0.89, 95% CI 0.81-0.98), flavonoids (RR = 0.83, 95% CI 0.78-0.89) and green tea (RR = 0.61, 95% CI 0.49-0.76) intake could significantly reduce ovarian cancer risk. Total fat (RR = 1.10, 95% CI 1.02-1.18), saturated fat (RR = 1.11, 95% CI 1.01-1.22), saturated fatty acid (RR = 1.19, 95% CI 1.04-1.36), cholesterol (RR = 1.13, 95% CI 1.04-1.22) and retinol (RR = 1.14, 95% CI 1.00-1.30) intake could significantly increase ovarian cancer risk. In addition, acrylamide, nitrate, water disinfectants and polychlorinated biphenyls were significantly associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. CONCLUSION These results could support recommendations to green leafy vegetables, allium vegetables, fiber, flavonoids and green tea intake for ovarian cancer prevention.
