Abstract
The global energy crisis has spurred a shift from conventional to clean and sustainable energy sources. Biomass derived from microalgae is emerging as an alternative energy source with diverse applications. Despite the numerous advantages of microalgae, large-scale biomass harvesting is not economical and convenient. Self-flocculation is considered an effective phenomenon facilitated by extracting the flocculating substances from microalgae that assist aggregation of algal cells into flocs. A novel cellulose-based bioflocculant has been synthesized from sewage water grown Chlorella sorokiniana and Scenedesmus abundans for harvesting application. The produced bioflocculant amounted to 38.5% and 19.38% of the dry weight of S. abundans and C. sorokiniana, respectively. Analysis via FTIR, XRD, and FESEM-EDX revealed the presence of cellulose hydroxyapatite (HA) in algae-derived cellulose. Harvesting efficiencies of 95.3% and 89.16% were attained for S. abundans and C. sorokiniana, respectively, at a dosage of 0.5 g/L. Furthermore, the bioflocculant was recovered, enabling its reuse with recovery efficiencies of 52% and 10% for S. abundans and C. sorokiniana, respectively. This simple and efficient approach has the potential to replace other harvesting methods, thereby contributing to the economic algal biofuel production.

Abstract
Most of the dyes used in various industries are non-biodegradable and carcinogenic in nature. Therefore, elimination of dyes from textile wastes is mandatory to safeguard the life of human, aquatic animals and aquatic plants. In this connection an effective and eco-friendly hydrogel was synthesized from acrylamide, cellulose, clay, and copper salt abbreviated as AMPS(PHE-Ce)/MC-Cu. The fabricated hydrogel was used as sorbent and catalyst for the adsorption and catalytic reduction of basic blue 3. SEM analysis showed granular texture with small holes or cracks which is basic criteria for an adsorbent surface. The results showed that the BET surface area and the Langmuir surface area were, respectively, 27.87 and 40.32 m2/g. The FTIR analysis confirmed the synthesis of hydrogel, as is evident from peaks at 3500, 3439, 2996, 2414, and 1650 cm-1, which indicated the presence of OH or NH, -C-O-C-, CH3, (C[bond, double bond]O), C-N bonds correspondingly. Thermal stability was confirmed by TGA analysis where weight loss in three stages has been observed. The presence of copper was confirmed through EDX (5.02%) indicating the incorporation of cupper nanoparticles in hydrogel surface. The high adsorption capability of 1590 mg/g as recorded for basic blue-3 dye indicates it to be an efficient adsorbent. The swelling behavior characterized by Fickian diffusion up to 7898% clearly indicated significant swelling. Pseudo 2nd-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm models were more fit in unfolding kinetics and isothermal data indicating chemisorption with monolayer sorption as evident from the high R2 values (0.999) of each model. Thermodynamics considerations indicated that the adsorption process is endothermic with a positive enthalpy value of 1371.32 Jmol-1. The positive entropy value of 19.70 J/mol.K signifies a higher degree of disorder at the solid-liquid interface. The findings provided a valuable insights into the hydrogel's capacity to adsorb cationic dyes and reduce them catalytically, pointing towards its potential applications in addressing environmental challenges.

Abstract
This study aims to solve the problem of cadmium heavy metal ion pollution caused by the abuse of chemical fertilizers and activities such as mining, which pose a serious threat to the plant growth environment. We successfully synthesized DMAPAA (N-(3-(Dimethyl amino) propyl) acrylamide)/DMAPAAQ (N, N-Dimethyl amino propyl acrylamide, methyl chloride quaternary) hydrogels via free radical polymerization. Subsequently, we conducted experiments on this hydrogel for growing vegetables under cadmium stress conditions in aqueous solutions and soil. The cadmium capture capacity of DMAPAA/DMAPAAQ hydrogels under different cadmium ion concentrations and pH values was evaluated by using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP). The research results show that under the condition of pH = 7.3, the cadmium capture capacity of DMAPAA/DMAPAAQ hydrogels is the greatest. We used the Langmuir model to fit the adsorption data, and the correlation coefficient was as high as 0.96, indicating that the model fits well. The application of the hydrogels promoted the growth of vegetables in soil under cadmium stress conditions. The results showed that when the added amount of hydrogel was 4%, the dry weight of the vegetables was the largest. In addition, when the added amount of cadmium was 500 mg/kg and the added amount of hydrogel was 4%, the absorption of cadmium by the vegetables decreased to an undetectable level. In summary, the hydrogel successfully synthesized in this study can be effectively used to immobilize cadmium ions in soil while positively promoting the growth and yield of vegetables. This achievement has practical significance for solving the problem of heavy metal ion pollution.

Abstract
Herein, NaP and LTA zeolites were successfully synthesised from woody biomass ash with alkali fusion-assisted hydrothermal method by altering the NaOH/ash ratio, crystallisation time and crystallisation temperature. In order to reduce the synthesis costs, NaP zeolite was synthesised with no additional source of aluminium and silicon. The synthesised zeolites were utilized for the monocomponent and simultaneous adsorption of Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) ions. The maximum adsorbed amount of metals had the trend Pb(II) > Cu(II) > Cd(II) > Zn(II) for both NaP and LTA zeolite. The kinetic data fit well to the pseudo-second order model indicating that chemisorption is the rate-limiting step. The isotherm data were well described with Sips and Redlich-Peterson models indicating a non-ideal heterogeneous adsorption process. Maximum adsorption capacity of NaP zeolite was 42.9 mg/g for Cu(II) and 117.3 mg/g for Cd(II), while LTA had 140.1 mg/g and 223.5 mg/g for Cu(II) and Cd(II) ions, respectively.

Abstract
Alginate-chitosan/hydroxyapatite (Alg-Cs/HAP) beads were prepared as adsorbent to remove methylene blue (MB) and copper ions from an aqueous solution using a batch system. FTIR, TGA, point of zero charge (pHpzc), SEM, XRD, and BET analysis were used to characterize the elaborated material. The effect of several parameters such as initial pH value, adsorbent dose, temperature, contact time, and initial pollutant concentration were also investigated. The obtained results showed that Alg-Cs/HAP exhibit excellent adsorption properties for Cu (II) and MB removal, with high adsorption capacities of copper ions (208.34 mg/g) and methylene blue (454.54 mg/g). The kinetic of the adsorption process is correlated with the pseudo-first-order for methylene blue and the pseudo-second-order for copper ions. The equilibrium data for MB dye fitted the Freundlich isotherm model, thus implying that the adsorption process consists of multilayer adsorption as well as interactions between the adsorbate and the adsorbent. The equilibrium data for copper ions corresponds closely with the Langmuir model which suggests that the adsorbed molecules occur over a monolayer. Various thermodynamic parameters such as the standard Gibbs energy (ΔG°), standard enthalpy (ΔH°), and standard entropy (ΔS°) were calculated. All results indicated that Alg-Cs/HAP material has a good potential for the treatment of wastewater.

Abstract
The simultaneous removal of Cu, Pb and Fe from water bodies has been targeted in this work with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (low, medium, and high molecular weight) derivative and with cyclic desorption efficacy target. For a varied range of adsorbent loading (0.2-2 g L-1), initial concentration (187.7-563.1 mg L-1 for Cu, 5.2-15.6 mg L-1 for Pb, and 61.85-185.55 mg L-1 for Fe), and resin contact time (5 to 720 min), batch adsorption-desorption studies were conducted. After first adsorption-desorption cycle, the optimum absorption capacity was 6.85 mg g-1 for Pb, 243.90 mg g-1 for Cu, and 87.72 mg g-1 for Fe for the high molecular weight chitosan grafted polyvinyl alcohol resin (HCSPVA). The alternate kinetic and equilibrium models were analyzed along with the interaction mechanism between metal ions and functional groups. The cyclic desorption studies were carried out with simple eluent systems such as HCl, HNO3, H2SO4, KOH, and NaOH. The experiments revealed that the HCSPVA derivative has been an impressive, reusable, and effective sorbent for the mitigation of Pb, Fe, and Cu in complex wastewater systems. This is due to its easy synthesis, excellent adsorption capacity, quick sorption rate, and remarkable regeneration capabilities.

Abstract
Deferasirox (DFX) is an iron-chelating agent effective in treating various kinds of cancers, which inhibits iron metabolism in cancer cells. The recent study aimed to prepare an injectable thermosensitive hydrogel based on lignocellulose and agarose containing deferasirox-loaded polypyrrole nanoparticles for local drug delivery in a combined chemo-photothermal therapy by laser light irradiation. Polypyrrole nanoparticles containing DFX were made by the emulsification method and optimized. Thermosensitive hydrogels were prepared by quaternary ammonium substituted agarose and TMPO-oxidized lignocellulose at different ratios, and the optimal hydrogel was selected based on gelation time, gelation temperature, and injectability. DFX- loaded polypyrrole nanoparticles were then added to the hydrogel, and the drug release, rheology test, injectability, degradation, and swelling percent, as well as cytotoxicity, and photothermal properties, were studied on B16F10, human melanoma cells. The hydrogel with 2 % anionic lignocellulose and 0.5 % cationic agarose showed the shortest gelation time and the highest mechanical strength. It transferred from a liquid state at 4 °C into a semisolid form at 37 °C with a gelation time of 10.3 min. The nanoparticles loaded in hydrogel showed dose-dependent cytotoxicity. The cytotoxic dose of the drug was reduced by laser light irradiation.

Abstract
Water is a vital resource that is required for social and economic development. A rapid increase in industrialization and numerous anthropogenic activities have resulted in severe water contamination. In particular, the contamination caused by heavy metal discharge has a negative impact on human health and the aquatic environment due to the non-biodegradability, toxicity, and carcinogenic effects of heavy metals. Thus, there is an immediate need to recycle wastewater before releasing heavy metals into water bodies. Hydrogels, as potent adsorbent materials, are a good contenders for treating toxic heavy metals in wastewater. Hydrogels are a soft matter formed via the cross-linking of natural or synthetic polymers to develop a three-dimensional mesh structure. The inherent properties of hydrogels, such as biodegradability, swell-ability, and functionalization, have made them superior applications for heavy metal removal. In this review, we have emphasized the recent development in the synthesis of hydrogel-based adsorbent materials. The review starts with a discussion on the methods used for recycling wastewater. The discussion then shifts to properties, classification based on various criteria, and surface functionality. In addition, the synthesis and adsorption mechanisms are explained in detail with the understanding of the regeneration, recovery, and reuse of hydrogel-based adsorbent materials. Therefore, the cost-effective, facile, easy to modify and biodegradable hydrogel may provide a long-term solution for heavy metal removal.

Abstract
The modification of chitosan represents a challenging task in obtaining biopolymeric materials with enhanced removal capacity for heavy metals. In the present work, the adsorption characteristics of chitosan modified with carboxyl groups (CTS-CAA) towards copper (II) and zinc (II) ions have been tested. The efficacy of the synthesis of CTS-CAA has been evaluated by studying various properties of the modified chitosan. Specifically, the functionalized chitosan has been characterized by using several techniques, including thermal analyses (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry), spectroscopies (FT-IR, XRD), elemental analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The kinetics and the adsorption isotherms of CTS-CAA towards both Cu (II) and Zn (II) have been determined in the aqueous solvent under variable pH. The obtained results have been analyzed by using different adsorption models. In addition, the experiments have been conducted at variable temperatures to explore the thermodynamics of the adsorption process. The regeneration of CTS-CAA has been investigated by studying the desorption process using different eluents. This paper reports an efficient protocol to synthesize chitosan-based material perspective as regenerative adsorbents for heavy metals.

Abstract
Cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin are three kinds of biopolymer in lignocellulosic biomass, and the utilization of the three biopolymers to synthesize hydrogel adsorbent could protect the environment and enhance the economic value of the biomass. A novel hydrogel adsorbent was prepared using cellulose, lignin, and hemicellulose of wheat straw by a one-pot method, and the adsorbent showed excellent adsorption performance for copper(II) ions. Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis showed that the prepared straw-biopolymer-based hydrogel had porous structure, and cellulose fibrils had crosslinked with lignin and hemicellulose by poly(acrylic acid) chains. The effects of contact time, initial concentration, and temperature on the copper(II) ion removal using the prepared hydrogels were investigated, and the obtained results indicated that the adsorption kinetics conformed to the pseudo-second-order and Elovich equation models and the adsorption isotherm was in accord with the Freundlich model. The adsorption thermodynamics study indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and accompanied by heat. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed that the adsorption behavior resulted from ion exchange. The prepared hydrogel based on cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin could be used for water treatment and soil remediation because of its high performances of excellent heavy metal ion removal and water retention.

Abstract
Finding affordable and environment-friendly options to decontaminate wastewater generated with heavy metals and dyes to prevent the depletion of accessible freshwater resources is one of the indispensable challenges of the 21st century. Adsorption is yet to be the most effective and low-cost wastewater treatment method used for the removal of pollutants from wastewater, while naturally derived adsorbent materials have garnered tremendous attention. One promising example of such adsorbents is hydrogels (HGs), which constitute a three-dimensional polymeric network of hydrophilic groups that is highly capable of adsorbing a large quantity of metal ions and dyes from wastewater. Although HGs can also be prepared from synthetic polymers, natural polymers have improved environmental benignity. Recently, cellulose-based hydrogels (CBHs) have been extensively studied owing to their high abundance, biodegradability, non-toxicity, and excellent adsorption capacity. This review emphasizes different CBH adsorbents in the context of dyes and heavy metals removal from wastewater following diverse synthesis techniques and adsorption mechanisms. This study also summarizes various process parameters necessary to optimize adsorption capacity followed by future research directions.

Abstract
Nowadays, people over the world face severe water scarcity despite the presence of several water sources. Adsorption is considered as the most efficient technique for the treatment of water containing biological, organic, and inorganic contaminants. For this purpose, materials from various origins (clay minerals, modified clays, zeolites, activated carbon, polymeric resins, etc.) have been considered as adsorbent for contaminants. Despite their cheapness and valuable properties, the use of clay minerals as adsorbent for wastewater treatment is limited due to many factors (low surface area, regeneration, and recovery limit, etc.). However, clay mineral can be used to enhance the performance of polymeric materials. The combination of clay minerals and polymers produces clay-polymers nanocomposites (CPNs) with advanced properties useful for pollutants removal. CPNs received a lot of attention for their efficient removal rate of various organic and inorganic contaminants via flocculation and adsorption ability. Three main classes of CPNs were developed (exfoliated nanocomposites (NCs), intercalated nanocomposites, and phase-separated microcomposites). The improved materials can be explored as novel and cost-effective adsorbents for the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants from water/wastewater. The literature reported the ability of CPNs to remove various pollutants such as bacteria, metals, phenol, tannic acid, pesticides, dyes, etc. CPNs showed higher adsorption capacity and efficient water treatment compared to the individual components. Moreover, CPNs offered better regeneration than clay materials. The present paper summarizes the different types of clay-polymers nanocomposites and their effective removal of different contaminants from water. Based on various criteria, CPNs future as promising adsorbent for water treatment is discussed.

Abstract
In this paper, a new nanobiomaterial, alendronate hydroxyapatite (AL-HAP), was synthesized by the conventional co-precipitation method with alendronate (AL) as dopant, and applied in the removal of heavy metal contaminants for the first time. The characterization results showed that the crystallinity of the AL-HAP nanocomposite biomaterials after doping has been greatly deteriorated, and the pore volume and pore size increased. When the doping amount of AL was 10 %, the maximum adsorption capacity of AL-HAP for Pb2+, Cd2+ and Cu2+ can reach 1431.8, 469 and 226.6 mg/g, respectively, which was much higher than that reported in other literature. Meanwhile, the adsorption mechanism of AL-HAP for heavy metal ions was discussed from both the views of experimental and Multiwfn program theoretical calculation based on density functional theory (DFT). Quantitative molecular surface analysis was carried out for the first time to study the minimum points and the positions of electrostatic potential (ESP) and average local ionization energy(ALIE), as well as the exact values, giving more accurate and reliable analysis conclusions for the reaction sites and binding mode. In addition, the independent gradient model (IGM) method was also firstly applied to investigate the interactions between AL and HAP or AL-HAP nanocomposite with metal ions. AL-HAP is a potential adsorption material for heavy metal wastewater treatment and soil remediation because of its advantages such as convenient synthesis, excellent adsorption performance and no secondary pollution.

Abstract
Copper is one of the most toxic heavy metals which must be eliminated from aqueous environments, according to the environmental standards. Carbohydrate biopolymers are promising candidates for synthesizing copper-adsorbent composites. It is due to unique properties such as having potential adsorptive functional sites, availability, biocompatibility and biodegradability, formability, blending capacity, and reusability. Different types of copper-adsorbent carbohydrate biopolymers like chitosan and cellulose with particular focus on the synthesizing and modification approaches have been tackled in this review. Composites, functionality and morphological aspects of the biopolymer adsorbents have also been surveyed. Further progress in the fabrication and application of biopolymer adsorbents would be achievable with special attention to some critical challenges such as the process economy, copolymer and/or (nano) additive selection, and the physicochemical stability of the biopolymer composites in aqueous media.

Abstract
In this paper, a simple chemical precipitation method was proposed to obtain zoledronate functionalized hydroxyapatite (zole-HAP) hybrid nano- biomaterials (zole-HAP-HNBM) which were firstly applied to adsorption. The characterizations of materials verified that the addition of zoledronate declined the crystallinity and transformed the morphology of HAP from short rod shape to microsphere, changed micro structure of the hybrid nanobiomaterial. Adsorption experiments carried out under different conditions showed that adsorption capacity of the nanobiomaterial, enhanced by the addition of zoledronate in preparation, which is equal to 1460.14 mg/g on Pb2+ and 226.33 mg/g on Cu2+ in optimum qualifications, was elevated more than the reported values in many literatures. At last, the sorption mechanisms of HAP and zole-HAP for Pb2+and Cu2+ were probed by experiments and Multifwn program calculation in details. It suggested that the dominant sorption mechanisms of HAP for Pb2+ were ion exchange and dissolution-precipitation rather than surface complexation, while besides the dissolution-precipitation mechanism, surface complexation may contribute more in the adsorption process of 10zole-HAP for Pb2+. Once considering HAP and 10zole-HAP, removal mechanisms of Cu2+ could involve surface complexation and ion exchange.

Abstract
In an attempt to overcome such threats posed by water pollution, various processes ranging from physical, chemical as well as biological were applied to get rid of wastewater pollutants. The simplicity, high efficiency and cheapness of an adsorption process make it the most widely used among various other processes. Adsorbents with different properties were used in the adsorption process but this paper was focused on reviewing various articles published by numerous researchers on the isolation of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), a popular carbohydrate polymer from lignocellulosic biomass and utilization of MCC based materials as effective adsorbents for the successful removal of dyes and heavy metals from synthetic wastewater. The sudden interest on MCC and MCC-based materials as adsorbents cannot be separated from their excellent properties such as renewability, biodegradability, biocompatibility, economic value, non-toxicity, high mechanical properties and surface area. Upon comparison with established adsorbents reported from literature, MCC-based materials performed excellently well in the adsorption of dyes and heavy metals with Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second order reported mostly as the best fit models for the generated equilibrium and kinetic data, respectively pointing at the distribution of adsorption sites to be homogeneous as well as the formation of monolayer adsorbate on their surfaces. The various thermodynamic studies reported further revealed the adsorption processes of both dyes and heavy metals onto MCC-based materials to be entropy driven processes, spontaneous, and endothermic. Finally, future research was suggested to focus on optimization to enhance the performance of the MCC-based adsorbents, carrying out the adsorption on real wastewater instead of synthetic ones as well as expanding the range of adsorbates to include other contaminants such as chlorophenols, herbicides, pesticides and others in addition to dyes and heavy metals.

Abstract
Contaminant removal from water involves various technologies among which adsorption is considered to be simple, effective, economical, and sustainable. In recent years, nanocomposites prepared by combining clay minerals and polymers have emerged as a novel technology for cleaning contaminated water. Here, we provide an overview of various types of clay-polymer nanocomposites focusing on their synthesis processes, characteristics, and possible applications in water treatment. By evaluating various mechanisms and factors involved in the decontamination processes, we demonstrate that the nanocomposites can overcome the limitations of individual polymer and clay components such as poor specificity, pH dependence, particle size sensitivity, and low water wettability. We also discuss different regeneration and wastewater treatment options (e.g., membrane, coagulant, and barrier/columns) using clay-polymer nanocomposites. Finally, we provide an economic analysis of the use of these adsorbents and suggest future research directions.

Abstract
Abstract
In the present study, the potential of synthesized mixed cellulose, alginate and hydroxyapatite beads for the efficient removal of Ni (II) and Cu (II) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated. Cellulose, alginate and hydroxyapatite are known for their individual adsorption capacity. Beads were prepared in different ratios of these materials. The prepared beads were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). FTIR and XRD analysis showed characteristic peaks assigned to cellulose, alginate and hydroxyapatite. Thermal stability was observed to increase with increase of hydroxyapatite percentage in beads. SEM images showed increased surface porosity and roughness with the increase of cellulose percentage. The prepared beads were used for the removal of Ni (II) and Cu (II) ions from aqueous solutions and the process was optimized with respect to pH, contact time, adsorbent dose and initial concentration of metal ions. The values of the coefficient of determination (R2) of the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption model indicated that the adsorbed Cu (II) and Ni (II) ions form monolayer coverage on the adsorbent surface. In kinetic analysis, Pseudo-second-order model fitted the kinetic experimental data well, as it showed high R2 value; above 0.9990.

Abstract
In the present work, polymer-coated multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was prepared via RAFT method. First, a novel trithiocarbonate-based RAFT agent was prepared attached chemically into the surface of MWCNT. In addition, the RAFT co-polymerization of acrylic acid and acrylamide monomers was conducted through the prepared RAFT agent. In the next age, the surface morphology and chemical properties of the prepared components were fully examined by using FTIR, 1HNMR, SEM, TEM, XRD and TGA/DTG techniques. Finally, the modified MWCNT composite was employed as an excellent adsorbent for the adsorption of copper (II) ions. The results indicated that ion adsorption basically relies on adsorbing time, solution pH, initial copper concentration, and adsorbent dosage. Further, the adsorption kinetics and isotherm analysis demonstrated that the adsorption mode was fitted with the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir isotherm models, respectively. Based on the results of thermodynamic study, the ion adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. Finally, based on the experimental results, the surface functionalized MWCNT with hydrophilic groups could be successfully used as a promising selective adsorbent material in wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Polyglycerol-based hydrogels from biodegradable raw materials were synthesized by crosslinking reactions of polyglycerol with citric and fatty acids. Three hydrogels were studied varying molar ratios of crosslinking agent. It was found that crosslink amount, type, and size play a crucial role in swelling, thermal, mechanical, and stimuli-responsive properties. The hydrogels absorption capacity changed in response to temperature and pH external stimuli. The hydrogel with the highest swelling capacity absorbed more than 7 times its own weight at room temperature and pH 5. This material increased 14 times its own weight at pH 10. Creep-recovery tests were performed to study the effect of crosslinking agent on mechanical properties. Deformation and percentage of recovery of synthesized hydrogels were obtained. Formation of hydrogels was confirmed using FTIR, and physicochemical properties were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC), and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). This paper aims to give a contribution to biobased hydrogel knowledge from chemical, physicochemical, and mechanical point of view.

Abstract
Fe3O4/hydroxyapatite/graphene quantum dots (Fe3O4/HAP/GQDs) nanocomposite was synthesized and used as a novel magnetic adsorbent. This nanocomposite was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and magnetization property. The Fe3O4/HAP/GQDs was applied to pre-concentrate copper residues in Thai food ingredients (so-called "Tom Yum Kung") prior to determination by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry. Based on ultrasound-assisted extraction optimization, various parameters affecting the magnetic solid-phase extraction, such as solution pH, amount of magnetic nanoparticles, adsorption and desorption time, and type of elution solvent and its concentration were evaluated. Under optimal conditions, the linear range was 0.05-1500ngmL-1 (R2>0.999), limit of detection was 0.58ngmL-1, and limit of quantification was 1.94ngmL-1. The precision, expressed as the relative standard deviation of the calibration curve slope (n=5), for intra-day and inter-day analyses was 0.87% and 4.47%, respectively. The recovery study of Cu for real samples was ranged between 83.5% and 104.8%. This approach gave the enrichment factor of 39.2, which guarantees trace analysis of Cu residues. Therefore, Fe3O4/HAP/GQDs can be a potential and suitable candidate for the pre-concentration and separation of Cu from food samples. It can easily be reused after treatment with deionized water.

Abstract
Significant efforts have been made to develop highly efficient adsorbents to remove radioactive Co(II) ion pollutants from medical and industrial wastewaters. In this study, amide group functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (CNT-CONH2) imprinted in the network of sodium alginate containing hydroxyapatite, and new nanocomposite beads were synthesized. Then, they were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The prepared nanocomposite beads were used as an adsorbent of Co(II) ions from an aqueous solution. The presence and distribution of Co(II) ions in the surface of the nanocomposite beads was confirmed using FESEM, EDS and metal mapping analysis. The effect of various experimental conditions such as time, pH, and initial concentration of the adsorbate solution and temperature on the adsorption capacity of the nanocomposite beads were explored. The maximum Co(II) ions adsorption capacity of the prepared nanocomposite beads with the largest surface area of 163.4m(2)g(-1) was 347.8mgg(-1) in the optimized condition. The adsorption mechanism followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Furthermore, the Freundlich appears to produce better fit than the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Finally, thermodynamic studies suggest that endothermic adsorption process of Co(II) ions is spontaneous and thermodynamically favorable.

Abstract
Significant efforts have been made to develop composite membranes with high adsorption efficiencies for water treatment. In this study, a carboxymethyl cellulose-graft-poly(acrylic acid) membrane was synthesized in the presence of silica gel, which was used as an inorganic support. Then, different amounts of bentonite were introduced to the carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) grafted networks as a multifunctional crosslinker, and nanocomposite membranes were prepared. The nanocomposite membranes were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, which revealed their compositions and surface morphologies. The novel synthesized nanocomposite membranes were utilized as adsorbents for the removal of crystal violet (CV) and cadmium (Cd (II)) ions, which were selected as representatives of a dye and a heavy metal, respectively. We explored the effects of various parameters, such as time, pH, temperature, initial concentration of adsorbate solution and amount of adsorbent, on membrane adsorption capacity. Furthermore, the kinetic, adsorption isotherm models and thermodynamic were employed for the description of adsorption processes. The maximum adsorption capacities of membranes for CV and Cd (II) ions were found to be 546 and 781 mg g(-1), respectively. The adsorption of adsorbate ions by all types of nanocomposite membranes followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model and was best fit with the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The results indicated that the synthesized nanocomposite membrane is an efficient adsorbent for the removal of cationic dye and metal contaminants from aqueous solution during water treatment.
