Abstract
Human-centred design (HCD) is an approach to problem-solving that prioritises understanding and meeting the needs of the end-users. Researchers and designers practice empathic listening as users share their perspectives, thereby enabling a variety of stakeholders to cocreate effective solutions. While a valuable and, in theory, straightforward process, HCD in practice can be chaotic: Practitioners often struggle to navigate an excess of (often conflicting) ideas and to strike a balance between problem-understanding and problem-solving. In this practice paper, we outline our own experiences with HCD, which ultimately resulted in the development of a successful video-based intervention to bolster vaccine confidence in the Philippines. We highlight the use of 'radical circles' to overcome roadblocks and navigate tensions. Radical circles entail groups of individuals with divergent opinions and identities engaging in critical analysis of a given idea, actively challenging standard ways of thinking, and ultimately, generating solutions. Employing radical circles enabled us to innovate and adapt to new perspectives that emerged along the non-linear HCD pathway. Our incorporation of radical circles into HCD methodology demonstrates its potential as a powerful complementary step in the meaning-making process. In our view, radical circles could enrich HCD processes and provide a solution to design overcrowding, leading to meaningful, transformative and successful interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Digital technologies are present in every phase of a drug lifecycle, from drug design and development to its dispensing and use. However, given the rapid development and implementation of digital solutions, their monitoring, evaluation, and risk assessment are limited and lacking. OBJECTIVE This research is aiming to identify potential errors, quantify and prioritize associated risks in the context of certain technologies used in pharmaceutical care, as well as define corrective measures to improve patient safety and the quality of pharmaceutical care. METHODS A 10-member multidisciplinary team conducted Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify critical risks, their causes and effects, along with developing corrective measures within the selected digital health components: Telepharmacy, mHealth, Artificial intelligence (AI), and Software infrastructure and systems. Critical risks were determined by calculating risk priority numbers (RPNs) from severity, occurence, and detectability scores. RESULTS This study identified 42 risks regarding the 4 components. After calculating RPNs and the threshold RPN (RPN=30), 8 critical risks were identified. Corrective measures were proposed for these failure modes, after which the risks were re-evaluated (RPN sum was reduced from 414 to 156). The risk with the highest RPN value was Internet/identity fraud, while the rest included inadequate and incomplete data entry and management, flawed implementation, human and technology errors, and lack of transparency, personalization and infrastructure. For the critical risks, 42 different causes were recognized on a system, technological and individual level while their effects were discussed in terms of patient safety and business management in pharmacies. CONCLUSION Digitalization of pharmaceutical practice promises greater effectiveness of pharmaceutical care, but in order to achieve this, efforts, resources and initiatives must be directed toward timely identification of problems, appropriate monitoring, and building adequate infrastructure that can support safe implementation of digital tools and services despite the swift development of innovations.

Abstract
Despite increased attention to, and frameworks conceptualizing person-centered care, systematic, organizational, and provider-level barriers continue to discourage the development and delivery of person-centered care (PCC) in pharmacy practice and beyond. This commentary describes existing pharmacy-specific literature related to PCC, barriers to PCC within the context of pharmacy practice, and potential solutions to increase person-centeredness in pharmacy services. Literature to substantiate and describe barriers and potential solutions was identified from 2008 to 2023, a period where the emphasis on PCC in pharmacy practice dramatically increased. Overall, pharmacy-specific literature was identified describing four key barriers to PCC. Several potential solutions were identified, including: using innovative and theory-informed approaches to collecting individual need and preference information, employing processes and equipping providers to facilitate trust, changing organizational culture, and aligning quality metrics and financial incentives with PCC. Identified solutions may be used to address individual, organizational, and systematic barriers to promote PCC.

Abstract
Objectives: Community-led monitoring (CLM) is an emerging approach that empowers local communities to actively participate in data collection and decision-making processes within the health system. The research aimed to explore stakeholder perceptions of CLM data and establish a CLM Data Value Chain, covering data collection and its impact. Methods: Qualitative data were collected from stakeholders engaged in health programs in South Africa. Data analysis involved a collaborative workshop that integrated elements of affinity diagramming, thematic analysis, and the systematic coding process outlined in Giorgi's method. The workshop fostered joint identification, co-creation of knowledge, and collaborative analysis in developing the data value chain. Results: The findings showed that CLM data enabled community-level analysis, fostering program advocacy and local collaboration. It enhanced program redesign, operational efficiency, and rapid response capabilities. Context-specific solutions emerged through the CLM Data Value Chain, promoting sustainable and efficient program implementation. Conclusion: CLM is a powerful tool for improving program implementation, quality, and advocacy in South African healthcare. It strengthens accountability, trust, and transparency by involving local communities in data-driven decision-making. CLM addresses context-specific challenges and tailors interventions to local needs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION People with Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) have a heightened sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) and are advised to wear photoprotective clothing including a visor covering the face and neck. Photoprotective visors are homemade and predominately worn by children with decreasing frequency as age increases. To improve upon the current design and efficacy we were tasked with developing a prototype visor to meet patients' needs. METHODS Adopting a codesign methodology, patients' experiences of wearing a visor and patient and carer views of emerging prototypes were explored during interviews. A thematic analysis was conducted in parallel with data collection and themes were interpreted into design cues; desirable attributes of a visor that would counteract the negative user experiences and meet the requirements described by patients and carers. The design cues guided the iterative development of prototypes by academic engineers. RESULTS Twenty-four interviews were conducted with patients and carers. Thematic analysis resulted in the following five themes: Being safe from UVR exposure; self-consciousness; temperature effects; acoustic difficulties; and material properties. The following design cues were developed from the themes respectively; materials and design with high UVR protection; ability to customise with own headwear; ventilation to reduce steaming up; acoustic functionality to enable hearing and speech; foldable, portable, and easy to put on and take off. CONCLUSIONS It is important to understand people's experiences of using medical devices to improve their safety, efficiency and user satisfaction. The user experience themes and design cues, informed the iterative development of low fidelity visor prototypes as part of a codesign process. These design cues and responses to the prototypes are guiding commercial manufacturing and regulatory approval. The visor can then be prescribed to patients, providing an equitable service of care.

Abstract
OUR ISSUE Researchers often design interventions or experiences to meet the needs of a specific user. However, the user's perspective is often excluded in the process, which can minimize effectiveness due to a lack of understanding about the user, their perspective, and/or their needs. User experience (UX) research methods offer an opportunity to capture additional information about the user that can inform the design of these solutions. METHODOLOGICAL LITERATURE REVIEW UX research became prominent during the 1990s to describe the complexity of human interactions with technological solutions. UX research methods emerged in other disciplines as strategies for describing user perspectives, needs, challenges, and potential impact of proposed solutions-these may be useful in health professions education research. OUR RECOMMENDATIONS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS Those interested in UX research methods should define the user, establish focused research questions, and select applicable strategies cognizant of time and resource constraints. UX research often requires a clear outline of research activities, how they address the questions, and techniques to engage representative users for data collection. Researchers can optimize data collection by creating inclusive spaces that emphasize active listening. Researchers should compile insights regularly and remember UX research emphasizes an iterative approach to design. POTENTIAL IMPACT UX research can support deeper insights into users, their perspectives, their needs, and offers opportunities to co-construct solutions with their experiences in mind. These methods may help educators design impactful experiences that better achieve targeted outcomes in collaboration with their users (e.g., learners, faculty, teams).

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Communicating the risks associated with nicotine and tobacco use to adolescents can be challenging, especially with the current tobacco market's attempt to capture the attention of youths. Text message interventions have emerged to address the need to improve tobacco risk communication. This article informs the design of a message library for tobacco risk communication that is based on the transtheoretical model and addresses the risk of multiple tobacco products. METHODS We draw findings from this study from two phases. Phase 1 involved six remote focus group discussions (n = 25) and an in-depth interview, and Phase 2 involved online ideation sessions (n = 11) that led to the current version of the messages. We conducted the study within a larger project for the design and testing of a tobacco prevention program. With thematic analysis and the affinity mapping technique, two research team members identified repeated topics and relevant quotes to organize them into themes and subthemes. RESULTS In Phase 1, thematic analysis revealed four major themes: 1) Adolescents' gap in tobacco knowledge, 2) Social influence and popularity, 3) Attitude toward marketing, and 4) Text message framing preferences. During Phase 2, participants generated 1-to-7 iterations of the original messages. Votings and discussions resulted in a library of 306 messages under 7 sections, categorized based on the processes of change from the transtheoretical model. CONCLUSION The current study presents key insights crucial for developing and evaluating a library of tobacco prevention text messages that is scientifically valid and successfully resonates with today's adolescents. Our future plan is to go beyond this initial message development and vet the message library by adolescents and expert reviewers in tobacco risk communication. Future research may consider developing messages that are tailored based on gender, ethnicity, and other factors that are predictive of tobacco use.

Abstract
Patient self-reported satisfaction is commonly used as an assessment of service experience and quality for community pharmacy services. This commentary discusses alternative foundational approaches to evaluating service experience and quality in patient-centered care. It describes historical and recent literature pertaining to the development and use of satisfaction measures for service design and patient experience assessment. It then highlights potential limitations of patient satisfaction as an assessment tool for patient-centeredness and patient experience identified in the pharmacy literature, which include criticisms that use of patient satisfaction may compromise accuracy in measuring quality due to factors such as patients having poor knowledge of and low expectations for quality and having a predisposition toward rating satisfaction highly when experiencing no-cost and/or unfamiliar services. Moreover, satisfaction measurements may change based on service exposure, with patient preferences for service offerings changing with increased service exposure and variation in patient-specific and environmental factors. After discussing limitations and criticism of patient self-reported satisfaction, we introduce alternative assessments methods which may facilitate more accurate assessments of patient experience and patient-centered pharmacy services such as patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs), patient-reported experience measures (PREMs), and human-centered design techniques such as journey mapping, prototyping, and user testing to design and assess patient-centered pharmacy services. These alternative assessments are rooted in, or related to preferred implementation science approaches to establishing, evaluating, and sustaining pharmacy services.

Abstract
Design thinking is an approach to problem solving that focuses on a solution to a problem. This systematic approach can be applied to practice-based research or implementation projects in your practice setting. It may be useful for starting new projects as well as revisiting past projects that may not have yielded meaningful results. The design-thinking process begins with identifying a problem or knowledge gap and then the steps include: (1) understanding the problem, (2) observing the problem, (3) defining the problem, (4) brainstorming possible solutions, (5) prototyping the best solution, and (6) testing the solution.

Embedded pragmatic clinical trials (ePCTs) are conducted during routine clinical care and have the potential to increase knowledge about the effectiveness of interventions under real world conditions. However, many pragmatic trials rely on data from the electronic health record (EHR) data, which are subject to bias from incomplete data, poor data quality, lack of representation from people who are medically underserved, and implicit bias in EHR design. This commentary examines how the use of EHR data might exacerbate bias and potentially increase health inequities. We offer recommendations for how to increase generalizability of ePCT results and begin to mitigate bias to promote health equity.

Abstract
Background Past research has shown that Australians affected by miscarriage want a website specific to both miscarriage and their local region that is accessible, comprehensive, evidence-based and informed by experts. The aim of this study was to design, develop and evaluate the Miscarriage Australia website using human centered design. Methods A four stage human centered design approach was used to develop the Miscarriage Australia website which aimed to: (1) Understand the issue and why users need a website; (2) Define users' specific needs; (3) Design solutions to meet those needs; and (4) Evaluate the design by testing with end users. Across the four stages, various types of data and data analysis were developed and utilized including interviews, desktop research, development of personas and tone of voice, followed by usability testing. Process and content were guided by designers, developers and an expert advisory committee of key stakeholders. Results Analysis and synthesis of user research across Stages 1 and Stage 2 found 11 key themes pertaining to user's miscarriage experiences and support needs. Using the themes, common experiences, goals, motivations and behaviors of users were identified and similar user types grouped and used to inform the development of two personas. Using the personas and user research findings, design elements (Stage 3) including the "tone of voice guidelines" were developed recommending the Miscarriage Australia website be calm, empathetic, hopeful and authoritative. The tone of voice guidelines guided branding and over 100 pages of content was informed by the research team and reviewed by a 13-member Expert Clinical Advisory Committee over two rounds to ensure it was evidence based and reflected best practice. Using a contextual inquiry approach, usability testing was undertaken with 8 end users to test a low fidelity mockup and high-fidelity prototype of the website. Overall, end users reported the website was highly acceptable in terms of the design, content, layout, language and terminology, describing it in line with the intended tone of voice. Users reported the website was easy to use and navigate and provided useful and appropriate content and resources. Minor areas for improvement included slight changes to specific images, improved links for navigating sections, and a title change to one section heading. Conclusion The Miscarriage Australia website was successfully implemented and commended by users as meeting their needs. As a result of using human centered design, the Miscarriage Australia website provides an ideal template or blueprint on how to develop a successful and useful digital resource for users, particularly around sensitive women's health issues.

Abstract
Community pharmacists have become increasingly exposed to opioid use disorders in recent decades. However, both pharmacist training and traditional practice environments have not been adequate to prepare the pharmacist for both the patient care needs and regulatory barriers of patients experiencing opioid use disorders (OUD). As a result, there is a need to increase pharmacists' awareness of both the overall patient experience as they navigate their OUD and the role of the community pharmacy as a touchpoint within that experience. To this end, a Community-Centered Patient Journey in Drug Addiction Treatment journey map was developed with expert insights, clinical experience, and in-depth interviews (conducted in spring of 2021) with 16 participants enrolled in licensed opioid treatment programs in Tennessee. Patients, policymakers, clinicians, and academic researchers were involved in the map development. Lived experiences of key informants were captured via in-depth interviews. A consensus decision-making approach was used throughout the patient journey map development process. The final patient journey map illustrates a non-linear pathway, describes the central role of the patient's community, and emphasizes three major "pain points" within the system (access, adherence, and affordability). Future research should investigate the impact of such a journey map on pharmacy personnel's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors.

Abstract
Background Innovative program designs and strategies are needed to support the widespread uptake of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs in the post-COVID19 era. We combined user-centered design (UCD) and implementation science (ImS) principles to design a novel telehealth-enhanced hybrid (home and clinic-based) CR (THCR) program. Methods As part of a New York Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH) quality improvement initiative (March 2020-February 2022), we designed a THCR program using an iterative 3 step UCD process informed by the Theoretical Domains Framework and Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research to: 1) identify user and contextual barriers to CR uptake (stakeholder interviews), 2) design an intervention prototype (design workshops and journey mapping), and 3) refine the prototype (usability testing). The process was optimized for usability and implementation outcomes. Results Step 1: Semi-structured interviews with stakeholders (n = 9) at 3 geographically diverse academic medical centers revealed behavioral (e.g., self-efficacy, knowledge) and contextual (e.g., social distancing guidelines, physical space, staffing, reimbursement) barriers to uptake. Step 2: Design workshops (n = 20) and journey-mapping sessions (n = 3) with multi-disciplinary NYPH stakeholders (e.g., digital health team, CR clinicians, creative director) yielded a THCR prototype that leveraged NYPH's investment in their remote patient monitoring (RPM) platform to optimize feasibility of home-based CR sessions. Step 3: Usability testing with CR clinicians (n = 2) administering and CR patients (n = 3) participating in home-based sessions revealed usability challenges (e.g., RPM devices/exercise equipment usability; Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity/syncing; patient safety/knowledge and protocol flexibility). Design workshops (n = 24) and journey-mapping sessions (n = 3) yielded design solutions (e.g., onboarding sessions, safety surveys, fully supervised remote sessions) and a refined THCR prototype. Conclusion Combining UCD and ImS methods while engaging multi-disciplinary stakeholders in an iterative process yielded a theory-informed telehealth-enhanced hybrid CR program targeting user and contextual barriers to real-world CR implementation. We provide a detailed summary of the process, and guidance for incorporating UCD and ImS methods in early-stage intervention development. THCR may shrink the evidence-to-practice gap in CR implementation. A future hybrid type I effectiveness-implementation trial will determine its feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Levels of stress and burnout continue to rise amongst healthcare workers. In addition to systemic and institution-level changes to healthcare practice environments, well-being interventions, resources, and support to assist healthcare providers are necessary. Meditation practices like Heart Rhythm Meditation (HRM) may provide benefits to healthcare workers, but healthcare worker experiences with HRM are not well understood. OBJECTIVE To explore healthcare worker experiences with HRM using a journey mapping approach. METHODS An exploratory cross-sectional online survey was administered between May and July of 2020 to a purposeful sample of 25 healthcare workers currently practicing HRM. Surveys consisted of 5 open-ended and 36 multiple-choice items mapped to five journey mapping domains: Discover, Search, Assess, Decide, Assist. Descriptive statistics for survey items were generated in addition to a visual representation of a Persona and associated journey map for HRM. Content analysis was performed on open-ended responses using a general inductive approach to code responses and identify representative quotes. RESULTS Twenty surveys were completed for a response rate of 80%. The majority of respondents identified as women (n = 14). From the journey mapping output, the overall emotional experience score was an 8.2/10, suggesting respondents had positive experiences with HRM. Open-ended comments suggest that HRM provides important benefits to the personal and professional lives of healthcare workers. A small number of participants reported challenges like feeling difficult emotions during HRM practice. CONCLUSION Mapping the healthcare worker journey with HRM identified generally positive experiences with personal and professional benefits. While experiences were largely positive, HRM elicited difficult emotions from some individuals, suggesting that appropriate resources and support are required when considering HRM and other meditation forms.

Abstract
Objective To develop a nurse-to-family telehealth intervention for pediatric inter-facility transfers using the human-centered design approach. Methods We conducted the inspiration and ideation phases of a human-centered design process from July 2022 to December 2022. For the inspiration phase, we conducted a qualitative cross-sectional case study design over 3 months. We used thematic analysis with the framework approach of parent and provider interviews. Five team members individually coded transcripts and then met to discuss memos, update a construct summary sheet, and identify emerging themes. The team adapted themes into "How Might We" statements. For the ideation phase, multidisciplinary stakeholders brainstormed solutions to the "How Might We" statements in a design workshop. Workshop findings informed the design of a nurse-to-family telehealth intervention, which was iteratively revised over 2 months based on stakeholder feedback sessions. Results We conducted interviews with nine parents, 11 nurses, and 13 physicians. Four themes emerged supporting the promise of a nurse-to-family telehealth intervention, the need to effectively communicate the intervention purpose, the value of a user-friendly workflow, and the essentiality of ensuring that diverse populations equitably benefit from the intervention. "How Might We" statements were discussed among 22 total workshop participants. Iterative adaptations were made to the intervention until feedback from workshop participants and 67 other stakeholders supported no further improvements were needed. Conclusion Human-centered design phases facilitated stakeholder engagement in developing a nurse-to-family telehealth intervention. This intervention will be tested in an implementation phase as a feasibility and pilot trial.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Informal caregiving is becoming increasingly important in dementia care, but causes a considerable burden on caregivers which impacts their wellbeing. We aimed to develop and pilot test a digital monitoring tool (REsilience Monitor for INformal caregivers in Dementia [REMIND]) for wellbeing and resilience of informal caregivers to provide timely support and thereby prevent their overburden and eventually crises admissions of persons with dementia. METHODS A human-centered design method based on co-creation with informal caregivers and professionals was used to design REMIND. During co-creation meetings and in-between sprint sessions, a point of focus was formulated, and a prototype was created. Case manager-caregiver duos pilot-tested REMIND for 3 months. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to determine usability and acceptability. Thematic analysis was applied to the transcripts. RESULTS Informal caregivers and professionals with varying backgrounds participated in three co-creation meetings. Defined point of focus was to develop a tool that is able to provide insight into the experienced burden of informal caregivers. The REMIND prototype consisted of weekly questions about wellbeing and resilience for informal caregivers and a dashboard with answers for case managers. Eight case managers and 13 informal caregivers considered REMIND easy-to-use. Informal caregivers mentioned that REMIND stimulated self-reflection. Case managers appreciated the tool's ability to gain insight in the actual wellbeing of informal caregivers. CONCLUSIONS The REMIND tool developed in co-creation with end-users potentially increases insight in actual wellbeing of informal caregivers for both caregivers and case managers. A long-term (controlled) follow-up study is needed to evaluate REMIND's impact on caregiver burden and crisis admissions.

Abstract
The Life Goals (LG) application is an evidence-based self-management tool intended to help individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) by aligning symptom coping strategies with personal goals. The program has traditionally been offered in-person or via the web, but has recently been translated into an individualized, customizable mobile intervention to improve access to care and reduce provider burden. The LG app previously showed acceptability with ease of use and satisfaction with user interface, but less success in encouraging self-management. To better understand patient needs, our team conducted semi-structured interviews with 18 individuals with BD who used the LG app for 6 months. These interviews also investigated participant interest in sharing LG app data with their provider through an online dashboard. Using affinity mapping, a collaborative, qualitative data analysis technique, our team identified emerging common themes in the interviews. Through this process, team members identified 494 pieces of salient information from interviews that were mapped and translated into three main findings: (1) many participants found Mood Monitoring and LG modules helpful/interesting and stated the app overall had positive impacts on their mental health, (2) some components of the app were too rudimentary or impersonal to be beneficial, and (3) feedback was mixed regarding future implementation of an LG provider dashboard, with some participants seeing potential positive impacts and others hesitating due to perceived efficacy and privacy concerns. These findings can help researchers improve app-based interventions for individuals with BD by increasing app usage and improving care overall.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a chronic, complex, heterogeneous disease that affects millions and lacks both diagnostics and treatments. Big data, or the collection of vast quantities of data that can be mined for information, have transformed the understanding of many complex illnesses, such as cancer and multiple sclerosis, by dissecting heterogeneity, identifying subtypes, and enabling the development of personalized treatments. It is possible that big data can reveal the same for ME/CFS. OBJECTIVE This study aims to describe the protocol for the You + ME Registry, present preliminary results related to participant enrollment and satisfaction, and discuss the limitations of the registry as well as next steps. METHODS We developed and launched the You + ME Registry to collect longitudinal health data from people with ME/CFS, people with long COVID (LC), and control volunteers using rigorous protocols designed to harmonize with other groups collecting data from similar groups of people. RESULTS As of September 30, 2021, the You + ME Registry had over 4200 geographically diverse participants (3033/4339, 69.9%, people with ME/CFS; 833/4339, 19.2%, post-COVID-19 people; and 473/4339, 10.9%, control volunteers), with an average of 72 new people registered every week. It has qualified as "great" using a net promotor score, indicating registrants are likely to recommend the registry to a friend. Analyses of collected data are currently underway, and preliminary findings are expected in the near future. CONCLUSIONS The You + ME Registry is an invaluable resource because it integrates with a symptom-tracking app, as well as a biorepository, to provide a robust and rich data set that is available to qualified researchers. Accordingly, it facilitates collaboration that may ultimately uncover causes and help accelerate the development of therapies. Abstract
Purpose People living with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) are living longer than ever and facing the new "luxury" of the challenges of aging. While research is slowly expanding and addressing T1D physiology with regards to aging, there is little research addressing specific challenges and barriers to optimal care by those aging with T1D. To address this gap, this study employed human-centered design research to explore the gaps and barriers to care faced by people aging with T1D. Methods Researchers employed human-centered design methods of needfinding and user interviews and facilitated participatory workshops. In total, 27 people with T1D (PWT1D), 5 loved ones (partners of PWT1D), and 7 healthcare providers (HCPs) were engaged. Results Design artifacts were developed, including user personas that help visually articulate the different experiences of PWT1D and their unique needs as they age, as well as a prototype diabetes-specific advance directive that could be further refined to specifically aid those with Type 1 diabetes who are aging and requiring more interactions with the healthcare system. Initial user testing with people with T1D as well as healthcare providers demonstrated the need for such a diabetes advance directive tool or document. Conclusion This work supports the conclusion that additional focus and scientific enquiry should be given to the needs of people aging with Type 1 diabetes, with a goal of improving the experience of all people with T1D when interacting with their care providers or with the healthcare system as a whole.

Abstract
Human-computer interaction (HCI) has contributed to the design and development of some efficient, user-friendly, cost-effective, and adaptable digital mental health solutions. But HCI has not been well-combined into technological developments resulting in quality and safety concerns. Digital platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) have a good potential to improve prediction, identification, coordination, and treatment by mental health care and suicide prevention services. AI is driving web-based and smartphone apps; mostly it is used for self-help and guided cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression. Interactive AI may help real-time screening and treatment in outdated, strained or lacking mental healthcare systems. The barriers for using AI in mental healthcare include accessibility, efficacy, reliability, usability, safety, security, ethics, suitable education and training, and socio-cultural adaptability. Apps, real-time machine learning algorithms, immersive technologies, and digital phenotyping are notable prospects. Generally, there is a need for faster and better human factors in combination with machine interaction and automation, higher levels of effectiveness evaluation and the application of blended, hybrid or stepped care in an adjunct approach. HCI modeling may assist in the design and development of usable applications, and to effectively recognize, acknowledge, and address the inequities of mental health care and suicide prevention and assist in the digital therapeutic alliance.
