Abstract
Given their increasing environmental and health harms, it is crucial to develop green and sustainable techniques for scavenging antibiotics represented by oxytetracycline (OTC) from wastewater. In the present work, a structurally simple lanthanum-calcium dual crosslinked carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS-La3+-Ca2+) aerogel was innovatively synthesized for adsorptive removal of OTC. It was found that CMCS and La3+ sites collaboratively participated in OTC elimination, and OTC removal peaked over the wide pH range of 4-7. The process of OTC sorption was better described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Redlich-Peterson model, and the saturated uptake amount toward OTC was up to 580.91 mg/g at 303 K, which was comparable to the bulk of previous records. The as-fabricated composite also exerted exceptional capture capacity toward OTC in consecutive adsorption-desorption runs and high-salinity wastewater. Amazingly, its packed column continuously ran for over 60 h with a dynamic uptake amount of 215.21 mg/g until the adsorption was saturated, illustrating its great potential in scale-up applications. Mechanism studies demonstrated that multifarious spatially-isolated reactive sites of CMCS-La3+-Ca2+ cooperatively involved in OTC capture via multi-mechanisms, such as n-π EDA interaction, H-bonding, La3+-complexation, and cation-π bonding. All the above superiorities endow it as a promising adsorbent for OTC-containing wastewater decontamination.

Abstract
Organosulfur compounds (OSCs) in garlic-processing wastewater are decomposed and generated to toxic and harmful substances with unpleasant odors under anaerobic conditions. Herein, were report the successful development of novel copper-based metal organic framework (Cu-MOF) adsorbents with high adsorption capacities for OSCs in aqueous media. Defect-rich Cu-MOF-X samples, with particle sizes between 360 and 750 nm, synthesized hydrothermal in the presence of acetic acid (where X denotes the molar ratio of acetic acid relative to the pentadentate MOF linker H4PPYD). OSC adsorption experiments using allicin, ajoene and 2-ethenyl-4H-1,3-dithiine (2-VDT) showed that Cu-MOF-200 delivered fast adsorption kinetics and high OSC adsorption capacities (149.02-171.33 mg g-1) owing to the pore accessibility and range of adsorption sites in the MOF. FT-IR, Raman, and XPS analyses, together with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, verified the strong yet reversible adsorption of OSCs in Cu-MOF-200. Results guide the development of improved adsorbents for OSC capture from garlic-processing wastewater.

Abstract
A novel porous polydimethylsiloxane/bimetallic ZnCo-MOF carbonization (PDMS/ZnCo-MOF@C) sponge was successfully fabricated, followed by its utilization in GC-MS for the high efficiency extraction and determination of volatile compounds in cumin. The PDMS/ZnCo-MOF@C sponge exhibits outstanding properties with a considerable adsorption capacity, high surface area, and large pore volume and has shown potential as an ideal adsorbent for the separation and preconcentration of trace volatile compounds. The effect of different parameters on the extraction efficiency were investigated. Excellent analytical performances were achieved for the representative compounds (β-pinene, p-cymene, γ-terpinene, cuminaldehyde, and linalyl acetate), including wide linearity (2.31-440.1 ng) with high correlation coefficients (R2 ≥ 0.9979), low LODs (1.02-3.11 ng) and LOQs (2.45-7.08 ng), and satisfactory precision (intra-day RSDs ≤ 2.89% and inter-day RSDs ≤ 4.14%). The optimal method was applied for the analysis of cumin from different regions and 44 volatile compounds were identified. The correlation between the different regions of cumin and volatile compounds was explored using multivariate statistical analysis. These results demonstrated that PDMS/ZnCo-MOF@C is an efficient, simple and sensitive material for use in the pretreatment technique for the determination of the volatile compounds in aromatic plants.

Abstract
Chlorination is a versatile technique to combat water-borne pathogens. Over the last years, there has been continued research interest to abate the formation of chlorinated disinfection by-products (DBPs). To prevent hazardous DBPs in drinking water, it is decided to diminish organic precursors, among which humic acids (HA) resulting from the decomposition and transformation of biomass. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) such as zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) have recently received tremendous attention in water purification. Herein, customized ZIF-67 MOFs possessing various physicochemical properties were prepared by changing the cobalt source. The HA removal by ZIF-67-Cl, ZIF-67-OAc, ZIF-67-NO3, and ZIF-67-SO4 were 85.6%, 68.9%, 86.1%, and 87.4%, respectively, evidently affected by the specific surface area. HA uptake by ZIF-67-SO4 indicated a removal efficiency beyond 90% in 4 90% after 60 min mixing the solution with 0.3 g L-1 ZIF-67-SO4. Notably, an acceptable removal performance (∼72.3%) was obtained even at HA concentrations up to 100 mg L-1. The equilibrium data fitted well with the isotherm models in the order of Langmuir> Hill > BET> Khan > Redlich-Peterson> Jovanovic> Freundlich > and Temkin. The maximum adsorption capacity qm for HA uptake by ZIF-67-SO4 was 175.89 mg g-1, well above the majority of adsorbents. The pseudo-first-order model described the rate of HA adsorption by time. In conclusion, ZIF-67-SO4 presented promising adsorptive properties against HA. Further studies would be needed to minimize cobalt leaching from the ZIF-67-SO4 structure and improve its reusability safely, to ensure its effectiveness and the economy of adsorption system.

Improvement of the specific surface area of biochar by calcium-precipitated nanoparticles synthesized by microbial induction as a template skeleton: Removal mechanism of tetracycline in water. JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT 2023; 348:119279. Abstract
The template method is an effective means to improve the specific surface area and porosity of biochar, but the synthesis of template agents and the way they are integrated with biomass materials still need further development. Therefore, the free Pseudomonas sp. Y1 was used to synthesize calcium-precipitated nanoparticles (CPN) on sludge as a fused template skeleton to enlarge the surface area of sludge biochar facilitating the adsorption of tetracycline (TC) in this work. The modified biochar (FBC) showed excellent specific surface area (448.55 m2 g-1) and porosity (0.0053 cm³ g-1), stable morphological structure, abundant active functional groups, and appreciable adsorption capacity (65.43 mg g-1) based on several characterization and adsorption experiments. Moreover, the adsorption model postulated that the removal of TC is mainly a chemisorption-based heat-trapping, disordered multilayer interaction. In detail, this process involved the joint contribution from electrostatic interactions, ligand exchange, hydrogen bonding, π-π bonding, complexation, and pore filling. Meanwhile, the adaptability and stability of FBC were examined by pH and coexisting substances. This template skeleton induced by microorganisms can provide new insight into the modification of biochar with the template method.

Abstract
Subalpine meadow soil with high moisture and humus content is a unique soil type in the Zoige Plateau. Oxytetracycline and copper are common soil contaminants which interact to form compound pollution. Oxytetracycline's adsorption on natural subalpine meadow soil and its components (humin and the soil without iron and manganese oxides) was studied in the laboratory with and without the presence of Cu2+. The effects of temperature, pH and Cu2+ concentration were documented in batch experiments, allowing deduction of the main sorption mechanisms. The adsorption process had two phases: one rapid, taking place in the first 6 h, and another slower, reaching equilibrium at around 36 h. The adsorption kinetics were pseudo-second-order, and the adsorption isotherm conformed to the Langmuir model at 25 °C. Higher concentrations oxytetracycline increased the adsorption, but higher temperature did not. The presence of Cu2+ had no effect on the equilibrium time, but the amount and rate adsorbed were much greater with Cu2+ concentration increased (except for the soil without iron and manganese oxides). The amounts adsorbed with/without Cu2+ were in the order the humin from subalpine meadow soil (7621 and 7186 μg/g) > the subalpine meadow soil (7298 and 6925 μg/g) > the soil without iron and manganese oxides (7092 and 6862 μg/g), but the difference among those adsorbents was slight. It indicates that humin is a particularly important adsorbent in the subalpine meadow soil. The amount of oxytetracycline adsorbed was greatest at pH 5-9. In addition, Surface complexation through metal bridging was the most important sorption mechanism. Cu2+ and oxytetracycline formed positively-charged complex that was adsorbed and then formed a ternary complex "adsorbent-Cu(II)-oxytetracycline", in which Cu2+ acted as a bridge. These findings provide a good scientific basis for soil remediation, and for assessing environmental health risks.

Abstract
The pollution problem of oxytetracycline (OTC) from wastewater becomes more serious, so an efficient, economical, and green adsorption material is urgently explored. In this study, the multilayer porous biochar (OBC) was prepared by coupling carbon nanotubes with iron oxide nanoparticles synthesized by Aquabacterium sp. XL4 to modify corncobs under medium temperature (600 °C) conditions. The adsorption capacity of OBC could reach 72.59 mg g-1 after preparation and operation parameters were optimized. In addition, various adsorption models suggested that OTC removal resulted from the combined effect of chemisorption, multilayer interaction, and disordered diffusion. Meanwhile, the OBC was fully characterized and exhibited a large specific surface area (237.51 m2 g-1), abundant functional groups, stable crystal structure, high graphitization, and mild magnetic properties (0.8 emu g-1). The OTC removal mechanisms mainly included electrostatic interactions, ligand exchange, π-π bonding reactions, hydrogen bonds, and complexation. pH and coexistence substance experiments revealed that the OBC possesses a wide pH adaptation range and excellent anti-interference ability. Finally, the safety and reusability of OBC were confirmed by repeated experiments. In summary, OBC as a biosynthetic material shows considerable potential for application in the field of purifying new pollution from wastewater.

Abstract
Antibiotics are life-saving medications for treating bacterial infections; however it has been discovered that resistance developed by bacteria against these incredible agents is the primary contributing factor to rising global mortality rates. The fundamental cause of the emergence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria is the presence of antibiotic residues in various environmental matrices. Although antibiotics are present in diluted form in environmental matrices like water, consistent exposure of bacteria to these minute levels is enough for the resistance to develop. So, identifying these tiny concentrations of numerous antibiotics in various and complicated matrices will be a crucial step in controlling their disposal in those matrices. Solid phase extraction, a popular and customizable extraction technology, was developed according to the aspirations of the researchers. It is a unique alternative technique that could be implemented either alone or in combination with other approaches at different stages because of the multitude of sorbent varieties and techniques. Initially, sorbents are utilized for extraction in their natural state. The basic sorbent has been modified over time with nanoparticles and multilayer sorbents, which have indeed helped to accomplish the desired extraction efficiencies. Among the current traditional extraction techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, protein precipitation, and salting out techniques, solid-phase extractions (SPE) with nanosorbents are most productive because, they can be automated, selective, and can be integrated with other extraction techniques. This review aims to provide a broad overview of advancements and developments in sorbents with a specific emphasis on the applications of SPE techniques used for antibiotic detection and quantification in various matrices in the last two decades.

Abstract
Benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers (BUVSs) that are added to pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) have raised global concerns because of their high toxicity. An efficient method to monitor its pollution level is urgently imperative. Here, a nitrogen-doped metal-organic framework (MOF) derived porous carbon (UiO-66-NH2/DC) was prepared and integrated into polyvinylidene fluoride mixed matrix membrane (PVDF MMM) as an adsorbent for the first time. The hydrophobic UiO-66-NH2/DC with a pore size of 162 Å exhibited outstanding extraction performance for BUVSs, which solves the problem of difficult enrichment of large-size and hydrophobic targets. Notably, the density functional theory simulation was employed to reveal the structure of the derived carbon material and explored the recognition and enrichment mechanism (synergy of π-π conjugation, hydrogen bond, coordination, hydrophobic interaction and mesoporous channel) of BUVSs by UiO-66-NH2/DC-PVDF MMM. And then, an influential method based on dispersive membrane extraction (DME) coupled with ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) was developed for the simultaneous analysis of four BUVSs in environmental water samples. The validated method benefited from the high sensitivity (the limits of detection within 0.25-1.40 ng/L), accuracy (recoveries of 71.9-102.8% for wastewater) and rapidity (50 min to enrich 9 samples). This study expands the application prospects of porous carbon derived from MOF for sample pretreatment of pollutants in water.

Abstract
The ubiquitous presence of contaminants in water poses a major threat to the safety of ecosystems and human health, and so more materials or technologies are urgently needed to eliminate pollutants. Polymer materials have shown significant advantages over most other adsorption materials in the decontamination of wastewater by virtue of their relatively high adsorption capacity and fast adsorption rate. In recent years, "green development" has become the focus of global attention, and the environmental friendliness of materials themselves has been concerned. Therefore, natural polymers-derived materials are favored in the purification of wastewater due to their unique advantages of being renewable, low cost and environmentally friendly. Among them, natural plant gums show great potential in the synthesis of environmentally friendly polymer adsorption materials due to their rich sources, diverse structures and properties, as well as their renewable, non-toxic and biocompatible advantages. Natural plant gums can be easily modified by facile derivatization or a graft polymerization reaction to enhance the inherent properties or introduce new functions, thus obtaining new adsorption materials for the efficient purification of wastewater. This paper summarized the research progress on the fabrication of various gums-based adsorbents and their application in the decontamination of different types of pollutants. The general synthesis mechanism of gums-based adsorbents, and the adsorption mechanism of the adsorbent for different types of pollutants were also discussed. This paper was aimed at providing a reference for the design and development of more cost-effective and environmentally friendly water purification materials.
