Abstract
Emerging technology in the new era of sensors to detect and quantify neurological reaction-based research has demanded the development of sensors for the neurotransmitter dopamine (DA). In recent decades, electrochemical sensors have offered rapid and sensitive detection of DA, but the presence of interfering compounds, such as uric acid (UA) and ascorbic acid (AA), poses a great threat to the development of DA sensors. Additionally, reusing traditional methods leads to challenges like prolonged preparation and expensive instruments. This research work offers a nanohybrid two-dimensional (2D) paper-like graphene oxide (GO) and three-dimensional (3D) cerium oxide nanosphere (CeONS) heterostructure composite (G-CeONS) created via stoichiometric synthesis for the non-enzymatic detection of DA oxidation in the presence of other complex biological compounds. The constructed G-CeONS nanohybrid composite enables enhanced selectivity and sensitivity towards DA detection through its interfacial engineering. The heterostructure formation of a 2D nanosheet draped over 3D nanospheres exhibits a wide linear concentration range of 100-30 800 nM with a low detection limit of 20.98 nM. Further investigation of the real-time performance on human saliva and DA injections afforded prominent results. In addition, the synergetic effect of G-CeONS improves DA detection accuracy and reliability towards enabling transformational neurochemical and medicinal applications.

Abstract
This paper introduces a quantitative method for dopamine determination. The method is based on a molecularly imprinted polypyrrole (e-MIP)-modified screen-printed electrode, with differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) as the chosen measurement technique. The dopamine molecules are efficiently entrapped in the polymeric film, creating recognition cavities. A comparison with bare and non-imprinted polypyrrole-modified electrodes clearly demonstrates the superior sensitivity, selectivity, and reproducibility of the e-MIP-based one; indeed, a sensitivity of 0.078 µA µM-1, a detection limit (LOD) of 0.8 µM, a linear range between 0.8 and 45 µM and a dynamic range of up to 350 µM are achieved. The method was successfully tested on fortified synthetic and human urine samples to underline its applicability as a screening method for biomedical tests.

Abstract
The detection of dopamine is of great significance for human health. Herein, Pd nanoparticles were loaded on Cu nanoplates (Pd/Cu NPTs) by a novel liquid phase reduction method. A novel dopamine (DA) electrochemical sensor based on the Pd NPs/Cu/glass carbon electrode (Pd/Cu NPTs/GCE) was constructed. This sensor showed a wide linear range of 0.047 mM to 1.122 mM and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.1045 μM (S/N = 3) for DA. The improved performance of this sensor is attributed to the obtained tiny Pd nanoparticles which increase the catalytic active sites and electrochemical active surface areas (ECSAs). Moreover, the larger surface area of two-dimensional Cu nanoplates can load more Pd nanoparticles, which is another reason to improve performance. The Pd/Cu NPTs/GCE sensor also showed a good reproducibility, stability, and excellent anti-interference ability.

Abstract
A novel electrochemical biosensor was developed for the detection of epinephrine (EP) by immobilizing double-strand DNA (dsDNA) bound with copper ions on a gold electrode (Cu2+/dsDNA/MCH/AuE). The electrochemical behavior of EP at Cu2+/dsDNA/MCH/AuE was examined, and the results demonstrated a significant enhancement in the electrocatalytic oxidation peak current of EP due to the formation of a stable G-Cu(II)-G sandwich structure between Cu2+ and guanine at the modified electrode. The modification process of the electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and differential pulse voltammetry. A study on the effect of pH in phosphate buffer solution on the electrochemical oxidation of EP indicated that the catalytic oxidation process was pH-dependent. A plot of catalytic current versus EP concentration exhibited a dual-linear relationship within two ranges: 1.0-12.5 μM and 12.5-1000.0 μM, with correlation coefficients of 0.995 and 0.997, respectively. The limit of detection was determined to be 47 nM (S/N = 3). According to the calculated Hill coefficient (0.99), it can be concluded that the electrocatalytic process followed the Michaelis-Menten kinetic mechanism. The maximum catalytic current Im was 25 μA, while the apparent Michaelis-Menten constant Km was 1.425 mM. These findings indicated excellent electrocatalytic activity of the modified electrode towards oxidation of EP. The developed biosensor successfully detected EP in spiked mouse serum as well as epinephrine hydrochloride injection with high selectivity, sensitivity, stability, and accuracy.

Abstract
A novel nitrogen-doped ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) pore-embedded growth Pt-Ru-Fe nanoparticles (Pt1-Ru7.5-Fex@N-OMCs) composite was designed and synthesized for the first time. SBA-15 was used as a template, and dopamine was used as a carbon and nitrogen source and metal linking reagent. The oxidative self-polymerization reaction of dopamine was utilized to polymerize dopamine into two-dimensional ordered SBA-15 template pores. Iron porphyrin was introduced as an iron source at the same time as polymerization of dopamine, which was introduced inside and outside the pores using dopamine-metal linkage. Carbonization of polydopamine, nitrogen doping and iron nanoparticle formation were achieved by one-step calcination. Then the templates were etched to form Fex@N-OMCs, and finally the Pt1-Ru7.5-Fex@N-OMCs composites were stabilized by the successful introduction of platinum-ruthenium nanoparticles through the substitution reaction. The composite uniformly embeds the transition metal nanoparticles inside the OMC pores with high specific surface area, which limits the size of the metal nanoparticles inside the pores. At the same time, the metal nanoparticles are also loaded onto the surface of the OMCs, realizing the uniform loading of metal nanoparticles both inside and outside the pores. This enhances the active sites of the composite, promotes the mass transfer process inside and outside the pores, and greatly enhances the electrocatalytic performance of the catalyst. The material shows high electrocatalytic performance for adrenaline, which is characterized by a wide linear range, high sensitivity and low detection limit, and can realize the detection of actual samples.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA), which are vital components in human metabolism, cause several health problems if they are present in altered concentrations; thus, the determination of DA and UA is essential in real samples using selective sensors. In the present study, graphite carbon paste electrodes (CPE) were fabricated using ZnO/carbon quantum dots (ZnO/CQDs) and employed as electrochemical sensors for the detection of DA and UA. These electrodes were fully characterized via different analytical techniques (XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, and EDS). The electrochemical responses from the modified electrodes were evaluated using cyclic voltammetry, square wave voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the present electrode has exhibited high sensitivity towards DA, recognizing even at low concentrations (0.12 μM), and no inference was observed in the presence of UA. The ZnO/CQD electrode was applied for the simultaneous detection of co-existing DA and UA in real human urine samples and the peak potential separation between DA and UA was found to be greatly associated with the synergistic effect originated from ZnO and CQDs. The limit of detection (LOD) of the electrode was analyzed, and compared with other commercially available electrodes. Thus, the ZnO/CQD electrode was used to detect DA and UA in real samples, such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells.

Abstract
A new nanocomposite consisting of lanthanum ferrite nanoparticles (LaFeO3 NPs) integrated with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was fabricated via facile sonochemical approach. The engineered nanocomposite was applied to simultaneously determine acetaminophen (ACP) and dopamine (DA) in a binary mixture. The LaFeO3 NPs@CNT probe possesses several advantages such as superior conductivity, large surface area, and more active sites, improving its electrocatalytic activity towards ACP and DA. Under optimized conditions, the anodic peak currents (Ipa) linearly increased with increasing concentration of ACP and DA in the range 0.069-210 µM and 0.15-210 µM, respectively. The sensitivity of LaFeO3 NPs@CNTs/glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for detecting ACP and DA is 7.456 and 5.980 μA·μM-1·cm-2, respectively. The detection limits (S/N = 3) for ACP and DA are 0.02 μM and 0.05 μM, respectively. Advantages of LaFeO3 NPs@CNTs/GCE for the detection of ACP and DA include wide linear ranges, low-detection limits, good selectivity, and long-term stability. The as-fabricated electrode was applied to determine ACP and DA in pharmaceutical formulations and human serum samples with recoveries ranging from 97.7 to 103.3% and an RSD that did not exceed 3.7%, confirming the suitability of the proposed sensor for the determination of ACP and DA in real samples. This study not only presents promising opportunities for enhancing the sensitivity and stability of electrochemical sensors used in the detection of bioanalytes but also significantly contributes to the progress of unique and comprehensive biochemical detection methodologies.

Abstract
Small biomolecules play a critical role in the fundamental processes that sustain life and are essential for the proper functioning of the human body. The detection of small biomolecules has garnered significant interest in various fields, including disease diagnosis and medicine. Electrochemical techniques are commonly employed in the detection of critical biomolecules through the principle of redox reactions. It is also a very convenient, cheap, simple, fast, and accurate measurement method in analytical chemistry. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are a unique type of metal-organic framework (MOF) composed of porous crystals with extended three-dimensional structures. These frameworks are made up of metal ions and imidazolate linkers, which form a highly porous and stable structure. In addition to their many advantages in other applications, ZIFs have emerged as promising candidates for electrochemical sensors. Their large surface area, pore diameter, and stability make them ideal for use in sensing applications, particularly in the detection of small molecules and ions. This review summarizes the critical role of small biomolecules in the human body, the standard features of electrochemical analysis, and the utilization of various types of ZIF materials (including carbon composites, metal-based composites, ZIF polymer materials, and ZIF-derived materials) for the detection of important small biomolecules in human body fluids. Lastly, we provide an overview of the current status, challenges, and future outlook for research on ZIF materials.

Abstract
A novel aptasensor has been designed for quantitative monitoring of epinephrine (EP) based on cerium metal-organic framework (CeMOF) loaded gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The aptamer, specific to EP, is immobilized on a flexible screen-printed electrode modified with AuNPs@CeMOF, enabling highly selective binding to the target biomolecule. Under optimized operational conditions, the peak currents using voltammetric detection measured at voltage of 83 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl) for epinephrine exhibit a linear increase within concentration in the range 1 pM-10 nM. Following this detection strategy, a boasted limit of detection of 0.3 pM was achieved, surpassing the sensitivity of most reported methods. The developed biosensor showcased exceptional performance in detection of EP in spiked serum sample, with remarkable recovery range of 95.8-113% and precision reflected by low relative standard deviation (RSD) ranging from 2.23 to 6.19%. These results indicate the potential utility of this biosensor as a valuable clinical diagnostic tool. Furthermore, in vitro experiments were carried out using the presented biosensor to monitor the release of epinephrine from PC12 cells upon extracellular stimulation with K+ ions.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) plays an essential role in dopaminergic neuronal behavior and disease. However, current detection methods for discriminating the secretion of DA are hampered by the limitations of the requirement for bulky instrumentation and non-intuitive signals. Herein, we have controllably and proportionately integrated molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with titanium dioxide (TiO2) to prepare MoS2@TiO2 nanocomposites (MoS2@TiO2 NCs) via a facile synthesis method. MoS2@TiO2 NCs with a certain reactant mass ratio have shown a significant enhancement in peroxidase-like activity with superiority of the nanocomposite structure compared to single MoS2 or natural enzyme. The method for catalyzing the decomposition of H2O2 by MoS2@TiO2 NCs and competition for hydroxyl radicals (˙OH) between the chromogenic agent and DA enable a sensitive, specific, and colorimetric DA analysis with a low detection limit of 0.194 μM and a wide linear detection range (0.8 to 100 μM). Because of the favorable detection performance, we were encouraged to explore and finally realize the visual detection of cellular DA secretion that is stimulated in a High-K+ neurocyte environment. Collectively, this method will provide a promising strategy for basic research in neuroscience with its portable, sensitive, and naked-eye detectable performance.

Abstract
A sensitive and selective electrochemical dopamine (DA) sensor has been developed using gold nanoparticles decorated marimo-like graphene (Au NP/MG) as a modifier of the glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Marimo-like graphene (MG) was prepared by partial exfoliation on the mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB) through molten KOH intercalation. Characterization via transmission electron microscopy confirmed that the surface of MG is composed of multi-layer graphene nanowalls. The graphene nanowalls structure of MG provided abundant surface area and electroactive sites. Electrochemical properties of Au NP/MG/GCE electrode were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry techniques. The electrode exhibited high electrochemical activity towards DA oxidation. The oxidation peak current increased linearly in proportion to the DA concentration in a range from 0.02 to 10 μM with a detection limit of 0.016 μM. The detection selectivity was carried out with the presence of 20 μM uric acid in goat serum real samples. This study demonstrated a promising method to fabricate DA sensor-based on MCMB derivatives as electrochemical modifiers.

Recent applications and chiral separation developments based on stationary phases in open tubular capillary electrochromatography (2019–2022). J Pharm Anal 2023; 13:323-339. Abstract
Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) plays a significant role in chiral separation via the double separation principle, partition coefficient difference between the two phases, and electroosmotic flow-driven separation. Given the distinct properties of the inner wall stationary phase (SP), the separation ability of each SP differs from one another. Particularly, it provides large room for promising applications of open tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC). We divided the OT-CEC SPs developed over the past four years into six types: ionic liquids, nanoparticle materials, microporous materials, biomaterials, non-nanopolymers, and others, to mainly introduce their characteristics in chiral drug separation. There also added a few classic SPs that occurred within ten years as supplements to enrich the features of each SP. Additionally, we discuss their applications in metabolomics, food, cosmetics, environment, and biology as analytes in addition to chiral drugs. OT-CEC plays an increasingly significant role in chiral separation and may promote the development of capillary electrophoresis (CE) combined with other instruments in recent years, such as CE with mass spectrometry (CE/MS) and CE with ultraviolet light detector (CE/UV).

Abstract
A sensitive and selective photoluminescent sensor based on the highly charged monoruthenium(II) complex was designed to detect dopamine (DA) in aqueous samples. Two novel highly charged cationic ruthenium(II) complexes [Ru(bpy)2(bpy-N)]X4 (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, bpy-N = 4,4'-bis[N,N,N-triethyl-(methylamino)]-2,2'-bipyridine, X- = [PF6]- (1a) or Cl- (1b) and [Ru(bpy)(bpy-N)2]X6 (X- = [PF6]- (2a) or Cl-(2b)) can be assembled with anionic surfactant sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS), leading to an enhancement of photoluminescence intensity. Upon addition of DA to the system, the photoluminescence intensity of the assembled system was quenched due to the energy transfer effect. It exhibited a wide linear range (0.1-50 μM) and low detection limit (10 nM). The sensor demonstrated a high selectivity toward DA, especially in the presence of adrenaline (Adr) and norepinephrine (NE), whose structures are similar to DA in biological systems. With the merits of simple operation, obvious phenomenon and fast response speed, the sensor had a potential application prospect in human urine sample.

Direct and Sensitive Detection of Dopamine Using Carbon Quantum Dots Based Refractive Index Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor. NANOMATERIALS 2022; 12:nano12111799. Abstract
Abnormality of dopamine (DA), a vital neurotransmitter in the brain’s neuronal pathways, causes several neurological diseases. Rapid and sensitive sensors for DA detection are required for early diagnosis of such disorders. Herein, a carbon quantum dot (CQD)-based refractive index surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor was designed. The sensor performance was evaluated for various concentrations of DA. Increasing DA levels yielded blue-shifted SPR dips. The experimental findings revealed an excellent sensitivity response of 0.138°/pM in a linear range from 0.001 to 100 pM and a high binding affinity of 6.234 TM−1. The effects of varied concentrations of DA on the optical characteristics of CQD thin film were further proved theoretically. Increased DA levels decreased the thickness and real part of the refractive index of CQD film, according to fitting results. Furthermore, the observed reduction in surface roughness using AFM demonstrated that DA was bound to the sensor layer. This, in turn, explained the blue shift in SPR reflectance curves. This optical sensor offers great potential as a trustworthy solution for direct measurement due to its simple construction, high sensitivity, and other sensing features.

Abstract
A unique approach based on Molecular Immobilization and Resonant Raman Amplification by Complex-Loaded Enhancers (MIRRACLE) on copper (II)-chitosan-modified SERS-active metallic nanostructured substrates is proposed for sensitive and rapid determination of the catecholamines (CA) dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. The ternary (CA)2Cu(4AAP)2 complexes were characterized by the appearance of new absorbance bands at 555, 600, and 500 nm for dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, respectively. The new absorbance band matched with a broad surface plasmon resonance band of utilized silver nanoparticles: 450-600 nm, and 633 excitation wavelength. We observed enhancement factors up to 3.6·106 due to the additional resonant enhancement. The multiplexing capabilities of quantitative spectral unmixing for Raman spectra of a group of CAs, which differ by only either hydroxy or methyl group, at the fingerprint region were successfully demonstrated with the direct classic least squares model. The achieved nM limits of detection with only 1.5 mW laser power and analysis of spiked human blood plasma samples proved the possibility of the multiplex determination of the catecholamines at the level of reference concentrations in the blood of healthy people as well as promise for the future facilitation in the precision diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumors and neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract
A novel molecularly imprinted sensor was developed for the voltammetric determination of adrenaline (AD). MXene/carbon nanohorn (MXene/CNH) composite with good electric conductivity and enormous accessible active sites was firstly introduced as catalytic substrate. Subsequently, molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) film was fabricated in mixed solutions containing hydroxymethyl-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (functional monomer) and AD (template) through electro-polymerization process. A molecularly imprinted sensor was formed after removing the template. The morphology and elemental composition of the prepared composites were studied by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to investigate the electrochemical performance of the molecularly imprinted sensors. Under optimized conditions, the designed sensor displays a wide linear range from 1.0 nM to 60.0 μM and a low limit of detection of 0.3 nM. The developed sensor also presents good selectivity, reproducibility and long-term stability, and satisfactory feasibility in practical sample analysis. MXene/carbon nanohorns decorated with conductive molecularly imprinted poly(hydroxymethyl-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) was proposed for highly sensitive and selective detection of adrenaline.

Abstract
A simple, cost-effective system was developed for dopamine (DA) detection using green synthesized 1-6 nm honey-based carbon quantum dots (H-CQDs) exhibiting bluish green fluorescence. The H-CQDs exhibited emission at 445 nm, with a quantum yield of ∼44%. The H-CQDs were used as a probe for electron transfer based DA detection and changes in H-CQD color in the presence of DA. The H-CQDs were formed with polar functional groups and were highly soluble in aqueous media. In the fluorometric mode, the proposed system demonstrated high specificity toward DA and effective limit of detection (LOD) values of 6, 8.5, and 8 nM in deionized (DI) water, male geriatric plasma, and female geriatric plasma, respectively, in the linear range 100 nM-1000 μM. In the colorimetric mode, the color changed within 5 min, and the LOD was 163 μM. A colorimetric sensor array system was used to precisely detect DA with a smartphone-integrated platform using an in house built imaging application and an analyzer app. Additionally, no additives were required, and the H-CQDs were not functionalized. More importantly, the H-CQDs were morphologically and analytically characterized before and after DA detection. Because the sensor array-based system allows high specificity DA detection in both DI water and geriatric plasma, it will play an important role in biomedical applications.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) is a critical biomarker for a variety of neurological diseases. Methods for simple and rapid DA detection are crucial for clinical diagnosis and treatments for those diseases. In this work, we developed a novel pretreatment-free method for dopamine detection using carbon dots as a turn-on fluorescent probe synthesized in situ. The aminosilane-functionalized carbon dots (SiCDs) were produced in a mild condensation reaction between N-[3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine (AEATMS) and dopamine, which were directly used for probing of dopamine. The prepared SiCDs exhibited green fluorescence with excitation/emission maximum at 380/495 nm, the intensity of which can be measured to quantify the DA present in the reaction mixture. The linear range of the assay was between 0.1 and 100 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 56.2 nM. The probe is of good selectivity and the recoveries of the developed method were in the range of 101.77-119.91% with RSDs within 3.67% in human serum sample tests. The SiCDs were also synthesized within MN9D cells under 37 °C and generated bright fluorescence, which can probe the DA's distribution in the cells. The described method exhibit potential in DA detection and live-cell imaging for its feature of facility, inexpensiveness, and sensitivity.

Abstract
For a healthy life, the human biological system should work in order. Scheduled lifestyle and lack of nutrients usually lead to fluctuations in the biological entities levels such as neurotransmitters (NTs), proteins, and hormones, which in turns put the human health in risk. Dopamine (DA) is an extremely important catecholamine NT distributed in the central nervous system. Its level in the body controls the function of human metabolism, central nervous, renal, hormonal, and cardiovascular systems. It is closely related to the major domains of human cognition, feeling, and human desires, as well as learning. Several neurological disorders such as schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease are related to the extreme abnormalities in DA levels. Therefore, the development of an accurate, effective, and highly sensitive method for rapid determination of DA concentrations is desired. Up to now, different methods have been reported for DA detection such as electrochemical strategies, high-performance liquid chromatography, colorimetry, and capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry. However, most of them have some limitations. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was widely used in biosensing. However, its use to detect NTs is still growing and has fascinated impressive attention of the scientific community. The focus in this concise review paper will be on the principle of SPR sensors and its operation mechanism, the factors that affect the sensor performance. The efficiency of SPR biosensors to detect several clinically related analytes will be mentioned. DA functions in the human body will be explained. Additionally, this review will cover the incorporation of nanomaterials into SPR biosensors and its potential for DA sensing with mention to its advantages and disadvantages.

Abstract
Facile and effective detection of dopamine (DA) plays a significant role in current clinical applications. Substantially, special optical nanomaterials are important for fabricating easy-to-control, cheap, selective, and portable fluorescence DA sensors with superior performance. Herein, carbon dots (CDs) prepared from melting method were applied as signal to establish a simple but effective fluorescence strategy for DA determination based on the enzymatic activity of acid phosphatase (ACP), which induces DA to form polydopamine (pDA). The formed pDA caused by the enzymatic oxidization of ACP toward DA can interact with CDs through the inner filter effect. Such behavior effectively quenched the CDs' fluorescence. The degree of fluorescence quenching of CDs was positively correlated with the DA content. Under the optimized reaction conditions, the proposed fluorescence method exhibited a comparable analytical performance with other DA sensors with good selectivity. Furthermore, this method has been successfully applied to detect DA in DA hydrochloride injection and human serum samples. It shows that this method features potential practical application value and is expected to be used in clinical research.

Abstract
Nowadays, several neurological disorders and neurocrine tumours are associated with dopamine (DA) concentrations in various biological fluids. Highly accurate and ultrasensitive detection of DA levels in different biological samples in real-time can change and improve the quality of a patient's life in addition to reducing the treatment cost. Therefore, the design and development of diagnostic tool for in vivo and in vitro monitoring of DA is of considerable clinical and pharmacological importance. In recent decades, a large number of techniques have been established for DA detection, including chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, spectroscopic approaches, and electrochemical (EC) methods. These methods are effective, but most of them still have some drawbacks such as consuming time, effort, and money. Added to that, sometimes they need complex procedures to obtain good sensitivity and suffer from low selectivity due to interference from other biological species such as uric acid (UA) and ascorbic acid (AA). Advanced materials can offer remarkable opportunities to overcome drawbacks in conventional DA sensors. This review aims to explain challenges related to DA detection using different techniques, and to summarize and highlight recent advancements in materials used and approaches applied for several sensor surface modification for the monitoring of DA. Also, it focuses on the analytical features of the EC and optical-based sensing techniques available.

Abstract
Four CeO2 nanomaterials with the morphologies of a nanoplate (CeO2-p), a nanocube (CeO2-c), a porous triangular microplate (CeO2-t), and of a porous hierarchical rod-stacked nanobundle (CeO2-b) were synthesized using a hydrothermal method. They were characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopies, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Electrochemical characterizations reveal the tuning of their morphology and the presence of exposed crystal planes of CeO2 that can be realized by changing the alkali sources. Among these materials, the CeO2-b features the largest specific surface and lowest electron transfer resistance towards the redox probe Fe(CN)63-/4-. The best voltammetric response to dopamine and epinephrine is thus achieved by using the Nafion-CeO2-b coated electrode. A sensitive and selective method was developed that can voltammetrically detect dopamine (with a peak near 0.13 V vs. SCE), and epinephrine (with a peak near 0.25 V vs. SCE). The detection limits are 2.9 and 0.67 nM, respectively. Graphical abstractSchematic representation of morphology tailoring of CeO2 and electrochemical sensing of dopamine and epinephrine on these CeO2 samples with different morphologies.

Abstract
This paper demonstrates a new and simplified configuration for capillary electrophoresis-amperometric detection (CE-AD) using a paper microfluidic chip incorporating inexpensive wax printing and screen printing based methods and then used for electrophoretic separation and simultaneous in-channel amperometric detection of three clinically relevant neurochemicals in a single run without using any decouplers. Detection of neurochemicals e.g., dopamine, epinephrine and serotonin is crucial for early prediction of neurological disorders including Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, dementia, as well as progressive neuro-psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, as well as certain cardiovascular diseases. The plasma concentrations of such neurochemicals are as important as those present in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and can be useful for rapid and convenient biosensing. However, simultaneous detection of such neurochemicals in a complex mixture such as human serum requires their separation prior to detection. With the developed microchip, separation and detection of the neurochemicals were exhibited within 650 seconds without pre-treatment and the procedure was validated with spiked fetal bovine serum samples. Beside this, the developed paper microfluidic chip has potential to be integrated in point-of-care diagnosis with onsite detection ability. Moreover, the use of a straight channel capillary, a screen-printed carbon electrode without decoupler, in-channel amperometric detection and low sample volume requirements (2 μL) are shown as additional advantages. This paper demonstrates a simplified configuration for capillary electrophoresis-amperometric detection using paper microfluidic chip for separation and simultaneous detection of three clinically relevant neurochemicals without using any decouplers.![]()

Abstract
Background:
The unnatural levels of dopamine (DA) result in serious neurological disorders
such as Parkinson’s disease. Electrochemical methods which have the obvious advantages of
simple operation and low-cost instrumentation were widely used for determination of DA. In order to
improve the measurement performance of the electrochemical sensor, molecular imprinting technique
and graphene have always been employed to increase the selectivity and sensitivity.
Methods:
An electrochemical sensor which has specific selectivity to (DA) was proposed based on the
combination of a molecular imprinting polymer (MIP) with a graphene (GR) modified gold electrode.
The performance and effect of MIP film were investigated by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV)
and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in the solution of 5.0 ×10-3 mol/L K3[Fe(CN)6] and K4[Fe(CN)6] with
0.2 mol/L KCl at room temperature.
Results:
This fabricated sensor has well repeatability and stability, and was used to determine the dopamine
of urine. Under the optimized experiment conditions, the current response of the imprinted
sensor was linear to the concentration of dopamine in the range of 1.0×10-7 ~ 1.0×10-5 mol/L, the linear
equation was I (µA) = 7.9824+2.7210lgc (mol/L) with the detection limit of 3.3×10-8 mol/L.
Conclusion:
In this work, a highly efficient sensor for determination of DA was prepared with good
sensitivity by GR and great selectivity of high special recognization ability by molecular imprinting
membrane. This proposed sensor was used to determine the dopamine in human urine successfully.

Abstract
Biogenic amines (BAs) are bioactive endogenous compounds which play a significant physiological role in many cell processes like cell proliferation and differentiation, signal transduction and membrane stability. Likewise, they are important in the regulation of body temperature, the increase/decrease of blood pressure or intake of nutrition, as well as in the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins, hormones and alkaloids. Additionally, it was confirmed that these compounds can be considered as useful biomarkers for the diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of several neuroendocrine and cardiovascular disorders, including neuroendocrine tumours (NET), schizophrenia and Parkinson's Disease. Due to the fact that BAs are chemically unstable, light-sensitive and possess a high tendency for spontaneous oxidation and decomposition at high pH values, their determination is a real challenge. Moreover, their concentrations in biological matrices are extremely low. These issues make the measurement of BA levels in biological matrices problematic and the application of reliable bioanalytical methods for the extraction and determination of these molecules is needed. This article presents an overview of the most recent trends in the quantification of BAs in human samples with a special focus on liquid chromatography (LC), gas chromatography (GC) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) techniques. Thus, new approaches and technical possibilities applied in these methodologies for the assessment of BA profiles in human samples and the priorities for future research are reported and critically discussed. Moreover, the most important applications of LC, GC and CE in pharmacology, psychology, oncology and clinical endocrinology in the area of the analysis of BAs for the diagnosis, follow-up and monitoring of the therapy of various health disorders are presented and critically evaluated.

Abstract
An innovative method is validated for the analysis of ertapenem sodium by capillary electrophoresis using potassium phosphate buffer 10 mM pH 7 and 15 kV voltage, in the concentration range of 70 to 120 μg mL−1. Ertapenem had a migration time of 3.15 minutes and the linearity curve was y = 2281.7 x - 24495 with a R2 = 0.9994. Thus, we propose a routine analysis method that meets the principles of green analytical chemistry for the routine analysis of ertapenem sodium by capillary electrophoresis.

Abstract
Dopamine is a metabolite that plays a key role in the human body and in biomedical and diagnostic applications. Thus, the concentration of this analyte has been considered in various diseases in therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). In the present study, for the first time, a photoprotein inhibition assay strategy was developed by utilizing aequorin for the direct detection of dopamine as a receptor and reporter simultaneously. The results showed that bioluminescence emission of aequorin was effectively quenched by increasing concentration of dopamine at the range of 1 nM to 100 μM with a detection limit of 53 nM. The viability of this method for the monitoring of dopamine in spiked biological fluids was also established and it was successfully applied for the direct determination of dopamine in a blood serum and urine without preliminary treatment with satisfactory quantitative recovery 90-95% and 82-93%, respectively. The structural investigation using circular dichroism, fluorescence spectroscopy, and docking simulation indicated that, changes in the microenvironment of aromatic residues were significant, while minor conformational alterations of the protein were observed. It seems dopamine inhibits bioluminescence activity with specific binding to the residues involved in the light production.

Abstract
We report on a chemiluminescence (CL) system based on simultaneous enhancing effect of Si-doped carbon dots (Si-CDs) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) on HCO3--H2O2 reaction. The possible CL mechanism is investigated and discussed. Excited-state Si-CDs was found to be the final emitting species, which are probably produced via electron and hole injection by oxy-radicals. The effect of several other heteroatom-doped CDs and undoped CDs was also investigated and compared with Si-CDs. Furthermore, it was found that catecholamines such as dopamine, adrenaline and noradrenaline remarkably diminish the CL intensity of Si-CD-HCO3--H2O2-CTAB system. By taking advantage of this fact, a sensitive probe was designed for determination of dopamine, adrenaline and noradrenaline with a limit of detection of 0.07, 0.60 and 0.01 μM, respectively. The method was applied to the determination of catecholamines in human plasma samples.
