Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are used as novel adsorption materials owing to their large surface area and tunable pore size. However, the lack of selectivity considerably limits their application. Consequently, designing functionalized MOFs with specific recognition abilities is essential for enhancing their adsorption performance. Herein, we synthesized a functionalized NH2-UiO-66 composite modified by molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP@NH2-UiO-66) via a one-step polymerization process in which NH2-UiO-66 and MIP were formed simultaneously. Results demonstrate that MIP@NH2-UiO-66 effectively recognized sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in complex matrices. The adsorption equilibrium was reached in only 30 min, and this fast SMX adsorption on MIP@NH2-UiO-66 was described by the Avrami kinetic model, which indicates a spontaneous and exothermic adsorption process. Within the pH range of 3.0-10.0, MIP@NH2-UiO-66 exhibited an optimal binding capacity for SMX, and the maximum adsorption of SMX was 68.36 mg g-1 at 25°C, which exceeded those of existing adsorption materials (< 60.10 mg g-1). Additionally, MIP@NH2-UiO-66 was regenerated for ∼17 cycles compared to less than eight cycles for the other adsorbents. MIP@NH2-UiO-66 effectively removed 90.58%-99.60% of SMX from river water, rainwater, soil, sediment, chicken, pork, and milk samples, with a relative standard deviation of less than 4.43%. The superior adsorption of SMX on MIP@NH2-UiO-66 was primarily driven by the synergistic effects of the imprinting sites, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic forces. The one-step polymerization method substantially simplified the synthesis process and reduced the costs, which are promising factors for the synthesis of MOFs with high selectivity.

Abstract
Luteolin is one of the bioactive components from the compound Anoectochilus roxburghii (Wall.) Lindl. oral liquid (CAROL), which was reported to have excellent hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory activities. However, the enrichment and quantitation of luteolin from CAROL is challenging due to the low content and complex aqueous matrix. In this study, a bifunctional monomer surface molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as cores was prepared for the selective adsorption of luteolin from the aqueous system CAROL. Compared with conventional MIPs, this unique nanocomposite adsorbent (MOF@MIPs) has the advantages of short kinetic equilibrium time, good selectivity, and high adsorption capacity in aqueous solution. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of MOF@MIPs for luteolin was 36.99 mg/g. After adsorption enrichment of luteolin from CAROL using MOF@MIPs, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was applied to analyze the target. The corresponding linearity range for analyte was 10-6000 ng/mL with good linearity (R2 =0.9992), and the added recoveries varied from 85.70 % to 99.25 %. The present method has been successfully employed for the analysis of luteolin in five different batches of CAROL. Notably, we found no significant difference in the content of luteolin between these batches, which proved that the composition was stable between batches. The novel structure MIPs are suitable for the specific recognition of template molecules in aqueous solution. Therefore, this study provides a technical reference for the special identification and determination of trace components in complex samples, while the novel MOF@MIP nanocomposite can also provide valuable references for the extraction and purification methods of specific substances in traditional Chinese medicine and expand the application environment of MIPs material.

Abstract
The escalating use of pesticides on fruits and vegetables has raised concerns about potential health risks. Therefore, we developed a superhydrophilic resin/graphene oxide (SR/GO) with rich adsorption interactions using an eco-friendly synthetic approach. SR/GO demonstrated excellent hydrophilicity, ensuring optimal contact with aqueous sample matrices. The multiple adsorption interactions, including π-π conjugation, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic adsorption, facilitated multi-pesticide residue co-extraction. The synthesized SR/GO was applied to a miniaturized centrifugation-accelerated pipette-tip extraction method, coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography. The optimized method exhibited low consumption (15.0 mg adsorbent), and high efficiency, with low detection limits (1.4-2.9 ng g-1) and high recoveries (75.3-113.0%). Water-compatible SR/GO, along with a miniaturized extraction process, showcases a potent analytical approach for pesticide residue analysis in fruits and vegetables. The significance of this method lies in its ability to ensure agricultural and food safety by using a low-cost and efficient multi-pesticide residue analytical strategy.

Abstract
This work presents the use of photoactive molecularly imprinted nanoparticles (MINs) to promote antibiotic degradation under visible light irradiation. Prototype MINs for the model antibiotic tetracycline (TC) were developed using molecular dynamics simulations to predict the TC-binding capacity of seven pre-polymerization mixtures. The studied formulations contained varying proportions of functional monomers with diverse physicochemical profiles, namely N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), N-tert-butylacrylamide (TBAM), acrylic acid (AA), and (N-(3-aminopropyl)methacrylamide hydrochloride) (APMA) and a constant ratio of the cross-linker N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (BIS). Two monomer formulations showed markedly higher TC-binding capacities based on template-monomer interaction energies. These mixtures were used to synthesize photoactive MINs by high-dilution radical polymerization, followed by the EDC/NHS conjugation with the organic photosensitizer toluidine blue. MINs showed higher TC-binding capacities than non-imprinted nanoparticles (nINs) of identical composition. MINs and nINs exhibited photodynamic activity under visible light irradiation, as confirmed by singlet oxygen generation experiments. TC degradation was evaluated in 50 μmol L-1 solutions placed in microplate wells containing immobilized nanoparticles and irradiated with white LED light (150 W m-2) for 1 h at room temperature. Degradation followed pseudo-zero-order kinetics with accelerated profiles in MIN-containing wells. Our findings suggest a key role of molecularly imprinted cavities in bringing TC closer to the photosensitizing moieties, minimizing the loss of oxidative potential due to reactive oxygen species diffusion. This degradation strategy can potentially extend to any organic pollutants for which MINs can be synthesized and opens valuable opportunities for exploring novel applications for molecularly imprinted materials.

Abstract
A 3D printed device covered with Zn/Co-ZIF-derived carbon allows the on-site extraction of fluoroquinolones (FQs) from wastewater, avoiding the sample transportation to the laboratory, and the subsequent elution, separation and determination using an on-line flow system based on sequential injection analysis (SIA) coupled to HPLC-FL. Several parameters that affect the extraction efficiency and desorption were optimized including the sorption phase immobilization technique on the 3D device, extraction time, pH effect, sample volume as well as the type of eluent, eluent volume, and flow rate. Under optimum conditions, detection limits of 3-9 ng L-1 were achieved for norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, danofloxacin, enrofloxacin and difloxacin. The precision expressed as relative standard deviation (%RSD, n = 3), showed intraday and interday ranges of 1.5-5.3% and 2.8-5.7%, respectively, demonstrating a good precision of the proposed methodology. To assess matrix effects and accuracy of the proposed method in real samples, recovery studies were performed without and with FQs spiked at different concentrations (0.5-10 μg L-1) to wastewater samples, showing good recoveries in the range of 91-104%. The results allow to confirm the applicability of MOF-derived carbons as adsorbents for on-site extraction, and the satisfactory separation and quantification of FQs by a SIA-HPLC-FL on-line system after their desorption with small eluent volumes.

Abstract
Food allergy can lead to severe allergic reactions that are potentially fatal for human, hence the detection of food allergens such as ovalbumin (OVA) is important. In this study, a poly(caffeic acid)-coated epitope molecularly imprinted polymer (EMIP) was prepared by chelation and autoxidation of caffeic acid with hexamethylenediamine. EMIP has not only imprinted cavities highly matched with OVA in size and spatial structure, but also externally abundant hydrophilic groups, resulting in few non-specific binding and good hydrophilicity. With high specificity, significant paramagnetism, and great reusability, EMIP can distinguish OVA from other proteins and selectively enrich OVA in egg white samples, which opens up a promising route to the determination of allergens in food products.

Abstract
A zwitterionic magnetic microporous organic network (MMON-SO3H-NH2) with numerous amino and sulfonic acid ion-pare binding sites was designed and synthesized for efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of fluoroquinolones (FQs) from meat samples. The core-shell MMON-SO3H-NH2 offered large specific surface area, rapid magnetic responsiveness, good stability, and multiple binding sites for FQs. The density functional theory and independent gradient model evaluations confirmed hydrogen bonding, π-π and ion-pair interactions between MMON-SO3H-NH2 and FQs. Under the optimal conditions, the established MMON-SO3H-NH2-MSPE-HPLC-UV method gave wide linear range (0.15-1000 μg L-1), low limits of detection (0.05-4.5 μg L-1) and limits of quantitation (0.15-13 μg L-1), and high enrichment factors (82.1-99.6) using 3 mg of adsorbent. This work demonstrates that the preparation of zwitterionic MONs is an efficient way to promote the extraction performance of MONs for zwitterionic targets and provides an effective sample pretreatment method for enriching and monitoring FQs in complex food matrices.

Abstract
Effective capture of quinolones (QNs) in animal-derived food is a vital procedure for food safety monitoring. However, the lack of adsorption specificity and difficult to recycle in complex substrate conditions have been major problems for most of the adsorbents. In this work, a magnetic Fe3O4/MOF/COF composite (named Fe3O4@NH2-MIL-125@TpPa-SO3H) was successfully synthesized with good magnetic responsiveness and conspicuous affinity towards QNs. The Fe3O4/MOF/COF composite was used as a magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbent for pretreatment and determination of QNs in meat samples. Under optimal MSPE conditions in combination with high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometer (HPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS), the proposed method had good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9978) from 0.01 to 100ng g-1, low limits of detection (0.0016 to 0.0940ng g-1), good precision with relative standard deviations lower than 5.8%. This method was effectively applied to the detection of 17 QNs in the spiked pork, chicken and beef samples with satisfactory recoveries from 83.9 to 106.2%. The separation selectivity mainly due to the π-π interaction, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic attraction between QNs and the sulfonic acid and amino functional groups of the composite. After verification, the stability and reusability of the composite meet the requirements of complex matrix sample pretreatment. The developed MSPE method based on the magnetic Fe3O4/MOF/COF composite provided an ideal sample pretreatment alternative for determining trace QNs in complex matrixes with selectivity, simplicity, rapidity, and efficiency.

Abstract
Herein, we prepared a carboxyl functionalized magnetic covalent organic framework (Fe3O4@iCOF-COOH) by combining multivariate synthetic strategy with post-synthetic modification. It was used as an adsorbent for magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of six fluoroquinolones (FQs), and showed good absorption performance at neutral pH. Carboxyl groups are found to be crucial for the adsorption of fluoroquinolones. The adsorption mechanism was primarily attributed to strong hydrogen bonding, π-π interaction as well as potential hydrophobic effect. The optimal extraction conditions are sample pH at 6.0, adsorbent dosage of 3 mg, eluent of 1.0 mL methanol solution containing 7.5% ammonia, and extraction/desorption time of 30 min. Under the optimized conditions, the Fe3O4@iCOF-COOH was used as an adsorbent for MSPE of FQs in milk, an analytical method was established by combining with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV). The limits of detection (LODs) and limit of quantification (LOQs) were 1.24-4.58 ng⋅mL-1 and 4.12-15.3 ng⋅mL-1, respectively. The recoveries of target FQs in spiked milk were 68.4-105%. This work provides a new way to prepare covalent organic framework based adsorbents for solid phase extraction, and can be readily extended to other type of adsorbents.

Abstract
To solve the problems of unstable adsorption performance and high organic solvent consumption of traditional molecular imprinting materials, we developed a water-resistant and highly adsorptive molecularly imprinted sulfamethazine polymer (MIP) through a novel synthetic strategy consisting of the application of mixed functional monomers combined with hydrophobic crosslinkers. The results showed that the imprinting factor of the prepared MIP was increased from 0.93 to 4.38, and that the relative selection coefficient k' was 5.59. With the application of the material to be developed as a solid-phase extraction (SPE) filler for sulfonamides (SAs) in milk combined with UPLC-MS/MS, the validated method showed a sensitive quantification limit (0.89 µg/kg), a steady recovery (95.55%-97.97%) and an excellent precision (0.08%-2.92% RSD). Moreover, after 5 times usage, the recovery rate of MIP-SPE was still above 90%. Therefore, the prepared materials showed high performance of molecular adsorption and were water-resistant, which was also considered an excellent filler of SPE for SAs extraction in food or other fields.

Abstract
Recently, there has been a global focus on effectively treating emerging contaminants (ECs) in water bodies. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are the primary technology used for ECs removal. However, the low concentrations of ECs make it difficult to overcome the interference of background substances in complex water quality, which limits the practical application of AOPs. To address this limitation, many researchers are developing new catalysts with preferential adsorption. Molecular imprinting technology (MIT) combined with conventional catalysts has been found to effectively enhance the selectivity of catalysts for the targeted catalytic degradation of pollutants. This review presents a comprehensive summary of the progress made in research on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) in the selective oxidation of ECs in water. The preparation methods, principles, and control points of novel MIP catalysts are discussed. Furthermore, the performance and mechanism of the catalysts in photocatalytic oxidation, electrocatalytic oxidation, and persulfate activation are analyzed with examples. The possible ecotoxicological risks of MIP catalysts are also discussed. Finally, the challenges and prospects of applying MIP catalysts in AOP are presented along with proposed solutions. This review provides a better understanding of using MIP catalysts in AOPs to target the degradation of ECs.

Abstract
Antibiotics are life-saving medications for treating bacterial infections; however it has been discovered that resistance developed by bacteria against these incredible agents is the primary contributing factor to rising global mortality rates. The fundamental cause of the emergence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria is the presence of antibiotic residues in various environmental matrices. Although antibiotics are present in diluted form in environmental matrices like water, consistent exposure of bacteria to these minute levels is enough for the resistance to develop. So, identifying these tiny concentrations of numerous antibiotics in various and complicated matrices will be a crucial step in controlling their disposal in those matrices. Solid phase extraction, a popular and customizable extraction technology, was developed according to the aspirations of the researchers. It is a unique alternative technique that could be implemented either alone or in combination with other approaches at different stages because of the multitude of sorbent varieties and techniques. Initially, sorbents are utilized for extraction in their natural state. The basic sorbent has been modified over time with nanoparticles and multilayer sorbents, which have indeed helped to accomplish the desired extraction efficiencies. Among the current traditional extraction techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, protein precipitation, and salting out techniques, solid-phase extractions (SPE) with nanosorbents are most productive because, they can be automated, selective, and can be integrated with other extraction techniques. This review aims to provide a broad overview of advancements and developments in sorbents with a specific emphasis on the applications of SPE techniques used for antibiotic detection and quantification in various matrices in the last two decades.

Abstract
The abuse and residues of antibiotics have a great impact on the environment and organisms, and their determination has become very important. Due to their low contents, varieties and complex matrices, effective recognition, separation and enrichment are usually required prior to determination. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), a kind of highly selective polymer prepared via molecular imprinting technology (MIT), are used widely in the analytical detection of antibiotics, as adsorbents of solid-phase extraction (SPE) and as recognition elements of sensors. Herein, recent advances in MIPs for antibiotic residue analysis are reviewed. Firstly, several new preparation techniques of MIPs for detecting antibiotics are briefly introduced, including surface imprinting, nanoimprinting, living/controlled radical polymerization, and multi-template imprinting, multi-functional monomer imprinting and dummy template imprinting. Secondly, several SPE modes based on MIPs are summarized, namely packed SPE, magnetic SPE, dispersive SPE, matrix solid-phase dispersive extraction, solid-phase microextraction, stir-bar sorptive extraction and pipette-tip SPE. Thirdly, the basic principles of MIP-based sensors and three sensing modes, including electrochemical sensing, optical sensing and mass sensing, are also outlined. Fourthly, the research progress on molecularly imprinted SPEs (MISPEs) and MIP-based electrochemical/optical/mass sensors for the detection of various antibiotic residues in environmental and food samples since 2018 are comprehensively reviewed, including sulfonamides, quinolones, β-lactams and so on. Finally, the preparation and application prospects of MIPs for detecting antibiotics are outlined.

Abstract
Caffeic acid (CA) is an efficient antioxidant found in wine and in plants and can be extracted from the by-products of the food industry. A molecularly imprinted polymer specific to caffeic acid (CA-MIP) was prepared by radical polymerization using N-phenylacrylamide as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker, and azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator, in the presence of CA as the template molecule. The rebinding activities between the polymers and CA were promoted by an indirect method and characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) using a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE). It is a fast method, which only requires simple and portable instrumentation. The polymer showed a high selectivity toward CA and a good repeatability. CA-MIP was then applied in wine samples spiked with CA, and the results were compared to those obtained by a chromatographic method. With a limit of detection of 0.06 mM in wine, the recovery values confirmed that the method is suitable for further applications.

Abstract
A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) is a synthetic polymer that has characteristics such as natural receptors which are able to interact and bind to a specific molecule that is used as a template in the MIP polymerization process. MIPs have been widely developed because of the need for more selective, effective, and efficient methods for sample preparation, identification, isolation, and separation. The MIP compositions consist of a template, monomer, crosslinker, initiator, and porogenic solvent. Generally, MIPs are only synthesized using one type of monomer (mono-functional monomer); however, along with the development of MIPs, MIPs began to be synthesized using two types of monomers to improve the performance of MIPs. MIPs used for identification, separation, and molecular analysis have the most applications in solid-phase extraction (SPE) and as biochemical sensors. Until now, no review article has discussed the various studies carried out in recent years in relation to the synthesis of dual-functional monomer MIPs. This review is necessary, as an improvement in the performance of MIPs still needs to be explored, and a dual-functional monomer strategy is one way of overcoming the current performance limitations. In this review article, we discuss the techniques commonly used in the synthesis of dual-functional monomer MIPs, and the use of dual-functional monomer MIPs as sorbents in the MI-SPE method and as detection elements in biochemical sensors. The application of dual-functional monomer MIPs showed better selectivity and adsorption capacity in these areas when compared to mono-functional monomer MIPs. However, the combination of functional monomers must be selected properly, in order to achieve an effective synergistic effect and produce the ideal MIP characteristics. Therefore, studies regarding the synergistic effect of the MIP combination still need to be carried out to obtain MIPs with superior characteristics.

Abstract
The widespread use of quinolones in humans and animals has become a major threat to public health. In this study, a simple, rapid, sensitive, and high throughput method based on automatic solid-phase extraction and isotope dilution ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry was described for the determination of trace quinolones in environmental water. The proposed automated solid-phase extraction method was initially optimized, and the optimum experimental conditions found were 1 L water sample with 0.5 g/L Na2EDTA (pH 3) extracted and enriched by CNW Poly-Sery HLB cartridge at a flow rate of 50 mL/min and eluted by 8 mL of methanol. The linearity of the method ranged from 0.05 to 100 μg/L for 15 quinolones, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.9993 to 0.9999. The limits of detection were in the low ng/L level, ranging from 0.005 to 0.051 ng/L. Finally, the optimized method was applied for determining trace levels of 15 quinolones in Wahaha pure water, tap water, river water, and seawater samples with good recoveries of 93 %-119 % and satisfactory relative standard deviations of 0.1 %-13.9 %. Fourteen quinolones were detected, and ofloxacin was the predominant congener in river water and seawater.

Abstract
In this work, the preparation and evaluation of water-compatible molecularly imprinted polymers for triazines using 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid as comonomers is described. Four sets of molecularly imprinted and non-imprinted polymers for propazine were prepared at varying monomer molar ratios (from 4:0 to 1:3), and evaluated for the recognition of several triazines directly in aqueous media. The evaluation was performed by loading 1 mL of an aqueous solution containing 500 ng of each selected triazine, washing with 500 μL of acetonitrile, and eluting with 500 μL of methanol followed by 2 × 500 μL of a solution of methanol containing 10% of acetic acid. Final determinations were performed by high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection. Improvement in molecular recognition of triazines in water was obtained on those molecularly imprinted polymers incorporating 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate in 3:1 or 2:2 molar ratios, being the former selected as optimum providing recoveries for propazine up to 80%. A molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction protocol was developed to ensure that triazines-selective recognition takes place inside selective binding sites in pure water media. Finally, the developed method was successfully applied to the determination of the selected triazines in environmental waters providing limits of detection from 0.16 and the 0.5 μg/L concentration range.

Abstract
In this study, ecofriendly and economic carboxy-terminated plant fibers (PFs) were used as adsorbents for the effective in-syringe solid phase extraction (IS-SPE) of fluoroquinolone (FQ) residues from water. Based on the thermal esterification and etherification reaction of cellulose hydroxy with citric acid (CA) and sodium chloroacetate in aqueous solutions, carboxy groups grafted onto cotton, cattail, and corncob fibers were fabricated. Compared with carboxy-terminated corncob and cotton, CA-modified cattail with more carboxy groups showed excellent adsorption capacity for FQs. The modified cattail fibers were reproducible and reusable with relative standard deviations of 3.2%–4.2% within 10 cycles of adsorption-desorption. A good extraction efficiency of 71.3%–80.9% was achieved after optimizing the extraction condition. Based on carboxylated cattail, IS-SPE coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography with a photodiode array detector was conducted to analyze FQs in environmental water samples. High sensitivity with limit of detections of 0.08–0.25 μg/L and good accuracy with recoveries of 83.8%–111.7% were obtained. Overall, the simple and environment-friendly modified waste PFs have potential applications in the effective extraction and detection of FQs in natural waters. Plant fibers were functionalized by green methods. The bio-adsorbents were applied for the extraction of fluoroquinolones. The higher carboxy content in fibers improved extraction performance. Carboxylated cattail was efficient in the adsorption of fluoroquinolones in environmental waters.

Abstract
Computer simulations are widely used for the selection of conditions for the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers and can rapidly reduce the experimental cycle time and save labor and materials. In this paper, estrone molecularly imprinted polymers (E1-MIPs) are designed at the M062X/6-311+G(d,p) level with itaconic acid (IA) as the functional monomer. The imprinted molar ratio between E1 and IA was optimized, cross-linkers and solvents were screened, and the nature of interactions between E1 and IA was explored. The simulated results showed that pentaerythritol triacrylate was the best cross-linker. Meanwhile, when the imprinted molar ratio between E1 and IA was 1:4, the E1–IA complex had the largest amount of hydrogen bonds, the lowest binding energy, and the strongest stability. Using the simulation results as guidance, the E1-MIPs were prepared to modify the electrons of a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor. The experimental studies showed that the E1-MIPs-QCM sensor had the highest adsorption capacity to E1 in comparison with their analogues, and the lowest detection value of the sensor was 16.00 μg/L. The computer simulations and experimental studies could provide guidance for synthesize novel E1-MIPs materials. It also could provide important references and directions for the application of E1-MIPs.

Abstract
Increasing amounts of antibiotics are introduced into soils, raising great concerns on their ecotoxicological impacts on the soil environment. This work investigated the individual and joint toxicity of three antibiotics, tetracycline (TC), sulfonamide (SD) and erythromycin (EM) via a whole-cell bioreporter assay. TC, SD and EM in aqueous solution demonstrated cytotoxicity, whilst soil exposure showed genotoxicity, indicating that soil particles possibly affected the bioavailability of antibiotics. Toxicity of soils exposed to TC, SD and EM changed over time, demonstrating cytotoxic effects within 14-d exposure and genotoxic effects after 30 days. Joint toxicity of TC, SD and EM in soils instead showed cytotoxicity, suggesting a synergetic effect. High-throughput sequencing suggested that the soil microbial response to individual antibiotics and their mixtures showed a different pattern. Soil microbial community composition was more sensitive to TC, in which the abundance of Pseudomonas, Pirellula, Subdivision3_genera_incertae_sedis and Gemmata varied significantly. Microbial community functions were significantly shifted by EM amendments, including signal transduction mechanisms, cytoskeleton, cell wall/membrane/envelope biogenesis, transcription, chromatin structure and dynamics, and carbohydrate transport and metabolism. This work contributes to a better understanding of the ecological effects and potential risks of individual and joint antibiotics on the soil environment.

Abstract
The demand for the removal of pollutants in aqueous solution has triggered extensive studies to optimize the performance of adsorbents, but the adsorption rate and selectivity of adsorbents have been overlooked. Hierarchically ordered porous vinyl-functionalized UIO-66 was used as supporter to prepare a surface molecular imprinted polymer (MIP-IL@UIO-66). The UIO-66 with large specific surface area significantly increased the number of active site of polymer, and so the MIP-IL@UIO-66 can achieve the rapid and highly selective adsorption of sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) in water. The structure and morphology of MIP-IL@UIO-66 was examined using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, thermogravimetry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction. Results indicate that the presented MIP-IL@UIO-66 has an ultrafast equilibrium rate (equilibrium time, 10 min), large adsorption capability (maximum capacity, 284.66 mg g-1), excellent adsorption selectivity (selectivity coefficient, 11.36), and good reusability (number of cycles, 5 times) via equilibrium adsorption experiments. Subsequently, as a novel solid phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent, the adsorption performance of SMZ onto MIP-IL@UIO-66 was better than that of a commercial SPE adsorbent. A MISPE column combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was presented to detect SMZ in water, soil, egg, and pork samples with recoveries of 91-106%. Hydrogen bonds, electrostatic and π-π interactions, and molecular memory were attributed to recognizing the SMZ of MIP-IL@UIO-66.

Waste expanded polystyrene modified with H 2SO 4/biodegradable chelating agent for reuse: As a highly efficient adsorbent to remove fluoroquinolone antibiotic from water. Abstract
Untreated wastewater containing fluoroquinolone antibiotics poses serious hazards to aquatic species and human health; therefore, treatment of waste expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a crucial environmental matter. In this study, waste EPS was modified with a H2SO4/biodegradable chelating agent, [S,S]-ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid (EDDS), and used for highly efficient adsorption of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ciprofloxacin. When ciprofloxacin of 25 mg/L was used, the H2SO4-modified EPS (EPSH2SO4) adsorbed 60.5% of the ciprofloxacin. During sulfonation, adding a low dose of EDDS markedly improved the adsorption ability of EPSH2SO4+EDDS. The optimal modification conditions were 95% H2SO4, 0.002 M EDDS, 80 °C, and 40 min. The increased adsorbent doses enhanced the adsorption. Approximately 0.2 g/L of EPSH2SO4+EDDS could effectively adsorb 97.8% of the ciprofloxacin (554.3 mg/g) within 30 min. Solution pH0 greatly influenced the adsorption, and the most suitable pH0 was 6. The Langmuir isotherm accurately described the adsorption behaviors of both EPSH2SO4 and EPSH2SO4+EDDS (R2 = 0.997-0.998). The adsorption ability of EPSH2SO4+EDDS (qmax = 1250 mg/g) was 32 times higher than that of EPSH2SO4 (qmax = 38.6 mg/g). A total of 1 M HCl effectively regenerated the exhausted adsorbent. The optimal solid/liquid ratio and time were 0.08 g/20 mL and 60 min, respectively. The regenerated EPSH2SO4+EDDS maintained a high adsorption ability (87.2%) after 10 regeneration cycles. The results thus indicate that the EPSH2SO4+EDDS adsorption-regeneration process is a potential approach to remove ciprofloxacin from water.

Abstract
It is an important challenge to effectively extract and determine pesticides in complex samples. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are burgeoning porous crystalline organic materials with good environmental resistance, thus demonstrating great potential as adsorbents in contaminants detection. In this work, we design and synthesize a novel COF-TpDB via 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and 4,4'-diaminobenzoylanilide (DB) as well as its packed cartridge for solid phase extraction (SPE) of carbamate pesticides. Simulation calculations showed H-bonding facilitates the adsorption interactions between the carbamate pesticides and TpDB. A method was developed by coupling TpDB as SPE sorbents with high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) detection to determine trace carbamate pesticides in vegetables. The established method showed a wide linear range of 0.1-200 ng mL-1 and low limit of detections (0.005-0.05 ng mL-1) for four carbamate pesticides. The applicability of TpDB as adsorbent was investigated for determination of trace carbamate pesticides residue in vegetables with satisfactory recoveries of four carbamates in the range of 80.4-101.2%. The results demonstrated that the COF-TpDB offer great potential for efficient extraction of carbamate pesticides from complicate matrices.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have aroused great attention as a new material for the removal or detection of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs). However, it is not clear about the superiority and deficiency of MIPs in the process of removing or detecting PPCPs. Herein, we evaluated the performance of MIPs in the aspects of adsorption capacity, binding affinity, adsorption rate, and compatibility to other techniques, and proposed ways to improve its performance. Without regard to the selectivity of MIPs, for the PPCPs adsorption, MIPs surprisingly did not always perform better than the conventional adsorbents (non-imprinted polymers, biochar, activated carbon and resin), indicating that MIPs should be used where selectivity is crucial, for example recovery of specific PPCPs in an environmental sample extraction process. Compared to the traditional solid-phase extraction for PPCPs detection pretreatment, the usage of MIPs as substitute extraction agents could obtain high selectivity of specific substance, due to the uniformity and effectiveness of the specific sites. A promising development in the future would be to combine other simple and rapid quantitative technologies, such as electro/photochemical sensor and catalytic degradation, to realize rapid and sensitive detection of trace PPCPs.

Abstract
We have described a sulfonamide-selective ambient ion source coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) for selective extraction and determination of trace sulfonamide antibiotics. It is obtained by modifying an iron sheet with a sulfadiazine-templated hydrophilic molecularly imprinted polymer (SF-HMIP). It behaves as both an online extractor and a MS ion source. Five sulfonamide antibiotics, including sulfamethoxazole (SMZ), sulfamerazine (SMR), sulfisoxazole (SIZ), sulfathiazole (ST), and sulfameter (SMD), were chosen to evaluate SF-HMIP coupled with ESI-MS, which showed good linearity in the range of 0.2-1000 ng/mL with correlation coefficient values (R2) over 0.9946. The limits of detection (LODs) for analysis of pure water and honey were in the range of 0.1-0.2 and 0.2-1.5 ng/mL, respectively. Limits of quantitation (LOQs) for analysis of pure water and honey were in the range of 0.3-0.5 and 1.0-5.0 ng/mL, respectively. The results demonstrated that SF-HMIP combined with ESI-MS could be applied for the direct analysis of five trace sulfonamide compounds in honey and pure water with recoveries ranging from 76 to 129%.

Abstract
In recent years, fluoroquinolones have been found present in important water resources and food sources which compromises the food quality and availability, thereby, causing risks to the consumer. Despite the recent advancement in the development of analytical instrumentation for routine monitoring of fluoroquinolones in water, food, and biological samples, sample pre-treatment is still a major bottleneck of the analytical methods. Therefore, fast, selective, sensitive, and cost-effective sample preparation methods prior to instrumental analysis for fluoroquinolones residues in environmental, food and biological samples are increasingly important. Solid-phase extraction using different adsorbents is one of the most widely used pre-concentration/clean-up techniques for analysis of fluoroquinolones. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) serve as excellent effective adsorbent materials for selective extraction, separation, clean-up and preconcentration of various pollutants in different complex matrices. Therefore, synthesis of MIPs remains crucial for their applications in sample preparation as this offers much-needed selectivity in the extraction of compounds in complex samples. In this study, the progress made in the synthesis of MIPs for fluoroquinolones and their applications in water, food and biological samples were reviewed. The present review discusses the selection of all the elements of molecular imprinting for fluoroquinolones, polymerization processes and molecular recognition mechanisms. In conclusion, the related challenges and gaps are given to offer ideas for future research focussing on MIPs for fluoroquinolones.

In this approach, a solution of curcumin was prepared in ethanol and it was dispersed into a sample solution with the aid of a syringe. Curcumin was precipitated in the sample solution as tiny particles and the analytes were adsorbed onto them. After centrifugation the adsorbed analytes were eluted with tetrabutylammonium chloride:dichloroacetic acid deep eutectic solvent. The dissolved analytes in the deep eutectic solvent were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Parameters affecting the extraction efficiency of the method including sorbent amount, dispersive solvent type and volume, elution solvent type and volume, salting out effect, and sonication time were investigated. Extraction recovery of the method was obtained in the range of 70-83%. Also wide calibration ranges and low detection limits (0.22-0.81 ng g-1) were obtained. Relative standard deviation values for intra- and inter-day precisions were ≤10.2% for all analytes at a concentration of 5 ng g-1 of each (n = 6). Finally, ten honey samples were analyzed and data showed that all of the studied samples were free of the analytes.

Abstract
Novel ciprofloxacin composite imprinted materials are synthesized by using co-precipitation polymerization of dual functional monomers (methacrylic acid and 2-vinylpyridine) and polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene. The intermolecular interactions between monomers and template are evaluated by molecular modeling analysis. The physicochemical properties of the obtained polymers are characterized using FT-IR, TGA, and SEM. Batch adsorption experiments are used to investigate adsorption properties (kinetic, pH, and isotherm). These polymers are employed to prepare the solid phase extraction cartridges, and their extraction performances are analyzed by the HPLC-UV method. DFT calculations indicate that hydrogen bonding and π−π stacking are the driving forces for the formation of selective rebinding sites. The obtained polymers exhibit excellent adsorption properties, including fast kinetics and high adsorption capacity (up to 10.28 mg g−1) with an imprinted factor of 2.55. The Scatchard analysis indicates the presence of specific high-affinity adsorption sites on the imprinted polymer. These absorbents are employed to extract CIP in river water with recoveries in the range of 65.97–119.26% and the relative standard deviation of 3.59–14.01%. Furthermore, the used cartridges could be reused at least eight times without decreasing their initial adsorption capacity. Ciprofloxacin imprinted polymers were prepared using co-precipitation polymerization of methacrylic acid, 2-vinylpyridine and polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene.![]()

Abstract
Metal-complexed dyes are harmful to the environment and human health because they contain heavy metals and complex organic ligands. It is difficult to separate and recover these dyes from wastewater owing to their complex components and poor selectivity of common adsorbents. In this study, a novel surface molecularly imprinted polymer (SMIP) was prepared using 4-vinyl pyridine as the functional monomer and polystyrene resin as the carrier. SMIP showed better adsorption performance than non-imprinted polymer (SNIP) in the whole pH range with the best adsorption capacity at pH 1.5. The correlation coefficients (R2) fitted by Langmuir and Temkin models were greater than 0.97, and the adsorption was a spontaneous exothermic process. The pseudo-second-order and Elovich models fitted the adsorption kinetic curves well. The adsorption capacity of SMIP was approximately 20% higher than that of SNIP in the salt concentration ranging from 2 to 80 mg/L. In selective adsorption experiments, the relative selectivity coefficients (I) of SMIP for competitors were all greater than 2.41, and the Cr (Ⅲ) components of ACB GGN played a more important role in the recognition performance of SMIP than the sulfonic groups. Adsorption mechanism tests revealed that although the adsorption of ACB GGN by SMIP mainly relied on electrostatic attraction, hydrophobic interactions, π-π conjugation, and Cr (Ⅲ) coordination were also involved. These results show that SMIP has excellent selective adsorption properties for ACB GGN and a promising application potential in the treatment of metal-complexed dye wastewater.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ciprofloxacin (CIP), an important broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, was often used as a template molecule for the preparation of imprinted materials. In this study, methacrylic acid and 2-vinylpyridine were employed for the first time as dual functional monomers for synthesizing ciprofloxacin imprinted polymers. METHODS The chemical and physicochemical properties of synthesized polymers were characterized using Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm. The adsorption properties of ciprofloxacin onto synthesized polymers were determined by batch experiments. The extraction performances were studied using the solid phase extraction and HPLC-UV method. RESULTS The molecularly imprinted polymer synthesized with dual functional monomers showed a higher adsorption capacity and selectivity toward the template molecule. The adsorbed amounts of ciprofloxacin onto the imprinted and non-imprinted polymer were 2.40 and 1.45 mg g-1, respectively. Furthermore, the imprinted polymers were employed as a selective adsorbent for the solid phase extraction of ciprofloxacin in aqueous solutions with the recovery of 105% and relative standard deviation of 7.9%. This work provides an alternative approach for designing a new adsorbent with high adsorption capacity and good extraction performance for highly polar template molecules.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for specific adsorption of steviol glycosides was designed, and the imprinting mechanism of self-assembly system between template and monomers was clearly explored. Firstly, steviol (STE) was chosen as dummy template, and the density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-31 + G (d, p) level was used to select monomers, imprinting molar ratios, solvents, and cross-linking agents. The selectivity to five steviol glycosides was also calculated. Importantly, reduced density gradient (RDG) theory combined with atom in molecules (AIM) and infrared spectrum (IR) was applied to investigate the bonding situation and the nature of noncovalent interaction in self-assembly system. The theoretical designed results showed that the template which interacts with acrylic acid (AA) has the minimum binding energy, and the complex with the molar ratio of 1 : 4 has the most stable structure. Toluene (TL) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) were chosen as the optimal solvent and cross-linking agent, respectively. Five hydrogen bonds formed in the self-assembly system are the key forces at the adsorption sites of MIPs through the RDG and AIM analyses. The MIPs were synthesized by theoretical predictions, and the results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity towards dulcoside A is 26.17 mg/g. This work provided a theoretical direction and experimental validation for deeper researches of the MIPs for steviol glycosides. In addition, the method of RDG theory coupled with AIM and IR also could be used to analyze other imprinting formation mechanisms systematically.

Molecularly imprinted polymers for arbutin and rutin by modified precipitation polymerization and their application for selective extraction of rutin in nutritional supplements. J Pharm Biomed Anal 2021; 205:114294. Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for glycosides, arbutin (ARB) and rutin (RUT), were prepared using methacrylamide (MAM) and 4-vinylpyridine (4-VPY) as functional monomers and divinylbenzene as a crosslinker by modified precipitation polymerization. The template molecule, ARB or RUT, was first dissolved in methanol, followed by precipitation polymerization using a mixture of acetonitrile and toluene as a porogenic solvent. The molar ratios of the template molecule, MAM and 4-VPY were optimized to achieve a high molecular recognition ability for ARB and RUT. The retention and molecular recognition properties of these MIPs were evaluated in HILIC or normal-phase mode. With an increase in the acetonitrile content in the mobile phase, the retention factor of ARB or RUT was increased. Furthermore, the MIPs for ARB and RUT showed the highest imprinting factors of 3.65 and 66.5 for the template molecules, respectively. Hydrogen bonding interactions such as N⋯H-O, C=O⋯H-O and NH⋯O-H between 4-VPY or MAM and hydroxy groups of d-glucose or d-rutinose could function in the recognition of a glycone. Furthermore, hydrogen bonding interactions between functional monomers and the hydroxy group(s) of hydroquinone or quercetin could function in the recognition of an aglycone. These results suggest that the MIPs could recognize both a glycone and aglycone via hydrogen bonding interactions. Furthermore, MIPs for RUT were successfully applied to extract RUT in nutritional supplements.

Abstract
In this work, novel dummy molecularly imprinted membranes (MIMs) were fabricated using the nylon-66 (NY-66) membranes as the subtracts based on an eco-friendly "sandwich" technology with less consumption of organic reagents at mild conditions for recognition and extraction of enrofloxacin (ENR) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) in egg samples. The prepared MIMs were characterized by SEM, ATR-FTIR and TGA, showing the successful construction of uniform and porous polymers on the surface of membranes. A series of adsorption affinity tests were investigated, indicating the prepared materials had specific recognition capacity and excellent stability as novel sorbents. Furthermore, Box-Benhnken design (BBD) and single factor investigations were applied to optimize pretreatment procedures, coupling with Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (UHPLC) detection. The method showed a good correlation (r2>0.9999) within the linear range of 5.0~5000.0 µg kg-1, and limit of detection (LOD) of ENR and CIP were 0.3 and 0.7 µg kg-1, respectively. The mean recovery ranged from 84.5% to 97.0% within relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 10.2%. Finally, ENR and CIP were not detected in 3 batches of egg samples. The current study developed the dummy MIMs as sorbents combined with UHPLC analysis for extraction and detection of target analytes in food matrices.

Abstract
The preparation of well-defined new hydrophilic molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) microspheres and their use as the dispersive solid-phase microextraction (dSPME) sorbents for direct and selective drug (i.e., propranolol) capture from the undiluted bovine serum are described. These MIPs have surface-grafted dense poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) brushes with different molecular weights and grafting densities. They were readily prepared via the facile reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) coupling chemistry. Both the molecular weights and grafting densities of PHEMA brushes showed significant influence on their complex biological sample-compatibility, and only those MIPs bearing PHEMA brushes with high enough molecular weights and grafting densities could selectively recognize propranolol in the undiluted pure milk and bovine serum. In particular, they have proven to be highly versatile dSPME sorbents for directly and selectively capturing propranolol from the undiluted bovine serum with satisfactory recoveries (85.2-97.4%) and high accuracy (RSD = 2.3-3.7%), even in the presence of one analogue of propranolol. The limit of detection was 0.002 μM with a linear correlation coefficient of 0.9994 in the range of 0.01-100 μM. Excellent precision was verified by both the intraday and interday analytical results. Their good reusability was also confirmed. This work demonstrates the high potential of such hydrophilic MIP-based dSPME sorbents for rapid, accurate, and reliable drug determination in complex biological samples.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with high specific recognition capability are promising in environmental remediation. However, traditional MIPs usually show poor specific binding affinity toward templates in pure aqueous medium, thus greatly limiting their practical applications in wastewater treatment. Herein, we proposed a facile and versatile method to synthesize a water-compatible hierarchically porous MIP (HP-MIP), in which a metal-organic gel (MOG) was formed by in situ assembly and acted as a removable structural modulator. Remarkably, the integration of the MOG modulator and template imprinting defects significantly improved the specific template binding affinity of HP-MIP in water. The adsorption behavior of HP-MIP fitted well with the heterogeneous Freundlich isotherm, suggesting that HP-MIP possessed greater site heterogeneity to sildenafil than HP-NIP, which confirmed the efficiency of HP-MIP for the removal of sildenafil from water. This approach provides an important pathway to prepare water-compatible porous MIP for efficient removal of highly toxic organic pollutants from wastewater.

Abstract
This review aims to pin out the importance of developing a technique for rapid detection of antioxidants, based on molecular imprinting techniques. It covers three major areas that have made great progress over the years in the field of research, namely: antioxidants characterization, molecular imprinting and electrochemistry, alone or combined. It also reveals the importance of bringing these three areas together for a good evaluation of antioxidants in a simple or complex medium, based on selectivity and specificity. Although numerous studies have associated antioxidants with molecular imprinting, or antioxidants with electrochemistry, but even electrochemistry with molecular imprinting to valorize different compounds, the growing prominence of antioxidants in the food, medical, and paramedical sectors deserves to combine the three areas, which may lead to innovative industrial applications with satisfactory results for both manufacturers and consumers.
