Novel Biomass Derived from Grape Pomace Waste as an Efficient Nanocatalyst for the Synthesis of Dibenzoxanthene, Tetraketone, bis(indolyl)alkane and Chromene Derivatives and their Antimicrobial Evaluation. Curr Org Synth 2020; 17:440-456. Abstract
BACKGROUND Sulfonated carbon-based solid acids (CBSAs) have been reported as an efficient solid acid catalyst for many acid-catalyzed reactions. Furthermore, the use of carbon obtained from biomass waste has been explored and these materials showed a higher catalytic performance and higher stability compared to other solid acids. OBJECTIVE Novel biomass carbon-based solid acids nanoparticles with high catalytic activity in organic transformation, such as Grape pomace waste-SO3H Nanoparticles (GPW-SO3H NPs), were successfully synthesized. MATERIALS AND METHODS Grape pomace waste-SO3H Nanoparticles (GPW-SO3H NPs) were successfully synthesized. The grape pomace waste was dried in an oven at a temperature of 70°C and crushed to powder using an electric spice grinder. A mixture of powdered grape pomace waste (1 g) and concentrated sulfuric acid (>98%, 10 mL) was stirred at room temperature. Then, the resultant mixture was transferred into a 100 mL sealed Teflon-lined autoclave and kept at 180°C for 12 h. After cooling to room temperature, the resulting black solid was dried at 100°C in an oven under vacuum and the sulfonic acid-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4@C-SO3H) were obtained. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS The catalytic activity of GPW-SO3H was assessed through an easy and rapid protocol developed for the one-pot synthesis of 14-aryl-14-H-dibenzo [a,j]xanthene, arylmethylene [bis(3- hydroxy-2-cyclohexene-1-one)], bis(indolyl)alkane and 2-amino-4-aryl-7-hydroxy-4H-chromene-3-carbonitrile derivatives in excellent yields. The advantages of this method include use of waste material for catalyst synthesis, high yields, mild reaction conditions, uncomplicated work-up procedures, neutral conditions, and recoverable catalyst. CONCLUSION We have shown that biomass-derived solid acids, prepared from grape pomace waste, serve as a non-toxic, inexpensive and a promising eco-friendly and novel carbon-based solid acid nanocatalyst for organic transformations.

Abstract
An efficient stereoselective three-component reaction for the synthesis of functionalized spiro[4H-pyran-3,3'-oxindole] derivatives was realized through an organocatalyzed domino Knoevenagel/Michael/cyclization reaction using a cinchonidine-derived thiourea as the catalyst. Using water as the additive was found to improve the product ee values significantly. Under the optimized conditions, the reactions between isatins, malononitrile, and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds yield the desired spirooxindole products in good yields (71-92%) and moderate to high ee values (up to 87% ee).

Abstract
An efficient approach for the synthesis of functionalized 4-substituted-2-amino-3-cyano-4H-chromenes moderate to high yields (up to 98%) has been achieved via a tandem K2CO3 catalyzed conjugate addition-cyclization reaction of malononitrile and a range of Knoevenagel adducts previously formed from oxindole, pyrazolone, nitromethane, N,N-dimethylbarbituric acid or indanedione. This methodology differs from the previous classical methods in its simplicity and ready availability of the catalyst.

Abstract
A green and simple approach to assembling of 2-amino-4,8-dihydropyrano[3,2-b]pyran-3-carbonitrile scaffolds via three-component reaction of kojic acid, malononitrile, and aromatic aldehydes in aqueous media under ultrasound irradiation is described. The combinatorial synthesis was achieved for this methodology with applying ultrasound irradiation while making use of water as green solvent. In comparison to conventional methods, experimental simplicity, good functional group tolerance, excellent yields, short routine, and selectivity without the need for a transition metal or base catalyst are prominent features of this green procedure.

Abstract
A highly diastereoselective (d.r. >99:1) and enantioselective (ee value up to 96%) synthesis of trisubstituted cyclohexanols was achieved by using a one-pot sequential organocatalysis that involved a quinidine thiourea-catalyzed tandem Henry-Michael reaction between nitromethane and 7-oxo-hept-5-en-1-als followed by a tetramethyl guanidine (TMG)-catalyzed tandem retro-Henry-Henry reaction on the reaction products of the tandem Henry-Michael reaction. Through a mechanistic study, it has also been demonstrated that similar results may also be achieved with this one-pot sequential organocatalysis by using the racemic Henry product as the substrate.

Abstract
This article concentrates on the versatile nucleophilic reactivity of 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds in various asymmetric transformations. Although underexploited in comparison to their 1,3-dicarbonyl homologues, the presence of adjacent multiple reactive centres allows the selection of specific activation modes for enhancing the reactivity of these important ambident pronucleophiles. They can be involved in selective formation of C-C, C-O or C-N bonds leading to various optically active targets in the acyclic and cyclic series including three- to seven-membered ring systems. Recent contributions in the field of biochemical, organometallic and organic catalytic transformations as well as some relevant stoichiometric approaches are discussed from synthetic and mechanistic point of views highlighting some important stereochemical issues.

Abstract
In the title compound, C(10)H(5)N(3)O(2), the benzyl-idene-malono-nitrile unit is nearly planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.129 (2) Å for a terminal N atom; the nitro group is approximately coplanar with the benzene ring [dihedral angle = 8.8 (3)°]. An intra-molecular C-H⋯N hydrogen bond stabilizes the mol-ecular conformation.

Abstract
The organocatalyzed enantioselective synthesis of biologically active 2-amino-5-oxo-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-chromene-3-carboxylate derivatives was achieved using bifunctional cinchona alkaloids as the catalysts. Using quinine thiourea as the catalyst, the tandem Michael addition-cyclization reaction between 1,3-cyclohexanediones and alkylidenecyanoacetate derivatives gives the desired products in high yields (up to 92%) and good ee values (up to 82%).

Abstract
An efficient method for the N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-catalyzed conjugate addition of acetyl anions to various α,β-unsaturated acceptors (Stetter reaction) has been optimized by using 2,3-butandione (biacetyl) as an alternative surrogate of acetaldehyde. The disclosed procedure proved to be compatible with microwave dielectric heating for reaction time reduction and with the use of different linear α-diketones as acyl anion donors (e.g. 3,4-hexanedione for propionyl anion additions). Moreover, the unprecedented umpolung reactivity of cyclic α-diketones in the atom economic nucleophilic acylation of chalcones is herein presented. Mechanistic aspects of the thiazolium-based catalysis involving linear and cyclic α-diketone substrates are also discussed.

Abstract
Bicyclo[3.2.1]octan-8-ones have been prepared from a tandem Michael-Henry reaction between cyclohexane-1,2-diones and nitroalkenes using a quinine-derived thiourea as the catalyst. Although four stereogenic centers were created during the reaction, only two diastereomers were obtained in good diastereoselectivity and high enantioselectivity (92-99% ee). When 3-methylcyclohexane-1,2-dione (R(1) = Me) was used as the substrate, only the regioisomeric product of the corresponding thermodynamic enolate was obtained.
